Today, the average Christian gives only about 3 percent of his income to the Lord’s work far less than the biblical tithe yet feels no guilt. Meanwhile, federal, state, and local governments take several tithes from us each year, and the IRS shows no mercy to those who withhold. Do we imagine God is more indulgent? Scripture warns otherwise: “Will a man rob God? … Ye are cursed with a curse” (Mal. 3:8–9).
