- 0:00Speaker 1: We're under such a microscope doing everything at home these
- 0:03Speaker 1: days and having to like reroute where we want to go.
- 0:07Speaker 1: And I think when we actually have sat down, it's
- 0:10Speaker 1: been so long that we've been under our own microscopes
- 0:14Speaker 1: that now we're sitting down and like, actually, no, I
- 0:16Speaker 1: can stop doing that. I don't need to be putting
- 0:18Speaker 1: that much energy into this specific thing because it doesn't
- 0:21Speaker 1: serve me. And I can save that energy and that
- 0:23Speaker 1: drive and put it into this thing and that's actually
- 0:26Speaker 1: going to serve me much better.

- 1:39Speaker 2: that they'd use to best describe their past three sixty
- 1:42Speaker 2: five and then they offer up some really helpful advice
- 1:45Speaker 2: on how to move into the next fifty two weeks
- 1:48Speaker 2: with grace and a positive outlook. For today's episode, I
- 1:52Speaker 2: am chatting with my girl, Vex Gentry.

- 3:43Speaker 2: I'm sitting down with Beck's Gentry welcome back to the show.
- 3:47Speaker 3: As many of you know, Bes a beloved Peloton instructor.

- 3:55Speaker 1: to be back with you.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I'm so happy to have you back with me.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I'll say you and I are are in close proximity
- 4:02Speaker 2: right now, but in two different places. And this definitely
- 4:05Speaker 2: is giving me like deja vu early twenty twenty vibes.
- 4:09Speaker 3: But we're healthy, we're happy, and we're moving forward.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yes we are. It's great. End of twenty twenty one.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I think we can only have a little bit more
- 4:19Speaker 1: goodness sprinkled into twenty twenty two.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I know it's all going to be good. It's all
- 4:25Speaker 3: going to be good.
- 4:26Speaker 2: So today you and I speaking of the end of
- 4:28Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, we're here to talk about it. We're
- 4:30Speaker 2: here to recap as a part of Hurdles, turning the
- 4:32Speaker 2: page series on where we've been and a little bit
- 4:37Speaker 2: on where we're going. So what I'm doing this week,
- 4:39Speaker 2: as you know, as I'm sure you have thought long
- 4:42Speaker 2: and hard about, is getting a word from past guests
- 4:46Speaker 2: of the show that sums up perhaps a portion a
- 4:51Speaker 2: part of what twenty twenty one was like for them. So, Bes,
- 4:55Speaker 2: this is a big moment here. You're gonna tell me
- 4:59Speaker 2: what is your and how did you come to it?
- 5:02Speaker 1: My word is roller coaster, because it literally has come
- 5:06Speaker 1: out of my mouth every day this year for multiple
- 5:10Speaker 1: different reasons, not just the current health situation and pandemic
- 5:14Speaker 1: that's been with us for so long personally, from like
- 5:19Speaker 1: my feeling towards running, my feeling towards fitness, my feeling
- 5:22Speaker 1: towards God, the weather. You know, it just feels like
- 5:28Speaker 1: it's one. I'm on a blindfolded roller coaster this year.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I have no idea when that stomach dropping moment is
- 5:35Speaker 1: going to happen, and then you're just riding it like
- 5:38Speaker 1: you can't get off because I'm not going to quit.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I'm not that kind of person. I really am like
- 5:43Speaker 1: somebody who is when they are strapped in from the
- 5:46Speaker 1: line all the way to when they get off. I'm
- 5:48Speaker 1: in it for the ride, but at times you don't
- 5:51Speaker 1: enjoy it, you don't really like where you're at, but
- 5:54Speaker 1: you know that at some point you're just going to
- 5:57Speaker 1: get to a better part. And that's how this is
- 5:59Speaker 1: a roller coaster of emotion, of physical energy, of just
- 6:05Speaker 1: finding your power, not finding your power. It's in and out,
- 6:08Speaker 1: up and down, upside down, whatever you want to call it.
- 6:14Speaker 3: We can all.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I'm sure totally relate and you have had, I mean
- 6:18Speaker 2: a roller coaster of a year to see the least,
- 6:21Speaker 2: so many highs and lows. When you reflect back on
- 6:25Speaker 2: last year, what would you say was one of the
- 6:28Speaker 2: biggest highs for you?
- 6:31Speaker 1: The trials was definitely the biggest high for me. Getting
- 6:35Speaker 1: a to go back to the UK and see my family,
- 6:37Speaker 1: which I hadn't done since I moved to New York,
- 6:40Speaker 1: so that was near on three years. And just having
- 6:45Speaker 1: the opportunity to compete at that level. Obviously, personally it
- 6:50Speaker 1: was bigger than what the result could have been. Obviously,
- 6:55Speaker 1: going to compete for your country, you know, wearing the
- 6:59Speaker 1: British colors and being able to run for your country
- 7:02Speaker 1: is amazing. But just the personal test, I don't often
- 7:07Speaker 1: and I spoke about this to you when we last chatted.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I hate pressure and I really never put myself under
- 7:13Speaker 1: that situation. I said, I rarely tell people a time.
- 7:16Speaker 1: If I'm going for a time, I just sort of run.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And that day was the first time I've stood on
- 7:21Speaker 1: the line knowing, oh my goodness, me, there is a big,
- 7:25Speaker 1: big time that I want to achieve here. So that
- 7:31Speaker 1: was definitely a high in my own personal world of
- 7:36Speaker 1: training in that way.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's interesting, right, because I think that you
- 7:41Speaker 2: have this growth mindset, like really beautiful perspective on the
- 7:46Speaker 2: opportunity what came from that despite not perhaps accomplishing your
- 7:52Speaker 2: ultimate goal. Talk to me a little bit about why
- 7:55Speaker 2: you think that is. Were you always this way? Were
- 7:57Speaker 2: you always a growth mindset person, or do you feel
- 8:00Speaker 2: like the lessons that you've learned leading up to this
- 8:03Speaker 2: point equipped you to look at the bright side of things.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I think growing up as an only child, I have
- 8:10Speaker 1: a half sister, but she's twenty three years my senior,
- 8:13Speaker 1: so we never grew up together, and so I think
- 8:16Speaker 1: i've or I have always been that way because perhaps
- 8:21Speaker 1: because I really never had anyone close to me at
- 8:24Speaker 1: home to compete with. But I always wanted to be
- 8:29Speaker 1: really good. Really, I knew my sister was very academically
- 8:33Speaker 1: blessed and very sporty, so I always had that level
- 8:36Speaker 1: of like, okay, but I want to do that too.
- 8:37Speaker 1: It wasn't necessarily competition. I just wanted to make sure
- 8:40Speaker 1: I did as well as she did because I saw
- 8:42Speaker 1: he prowd. It made my dad and so I think
- 8:46Speaker 1: for sure, But you know what the funny thing is,
- 8:48Speaker 1: this year has taught me where I excel in that
- 8:51Speaker 1: way and where to put it into these yes terms
- 8:55Speaker 1: where I don't care about that mentality for certain parts
- 8:59Speaker 1: of life. It's so weird because you we're under such
- 9:03Speaker 1: a microscope doing everything at home these days and having
- 9:07Speaker 1: to like reroute where we want to go. And I
- 9:11Speaker 1: think when we actually have sat down, it's been so
- 9:14Speaker 1: long that we've been under our own microscopes that now
- 9:17Speaker 1: we're sitting down and like, actually, no, I can stop
- 9:19Speaker 1: doing that. I don't need to be putting that much
- 9:21Speaker 1: energy into this specific thing because it doesn't serve me.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And I can save that energy and that drive and
- 9:26Speaker 1: put it into this thing and that's actually going to
- 9:29Speaker 1: serve me much better. And I think that's been super
- 9:32Speaker 1: interesting for me to figure out where.
- 9:33Speaker 2: That growth can go, finding the opportunity in like this
- 9:39Speaker 2: stillness that maybe so many of us have not leaned
- 9:42Speaker 2: into previously, and not being able any longer to ignore
- 9:49Speaker 2: the little voice inside right, the one that's telling you
- 9:53Speaker 2: what it is that you really need. It's like we
- 9:55Speaker 2: got to such an exhausted point with so many of
- 9:58Speaker 2: the things that were happening in our life that were
- 10:00Speaker 2: completely uncontrollable that it was like, yo, like you and me,
- 10:04Speaker 2: me and my mental side, me in my brain Emily
- 10:07Speaker 2: Party of one, like, let's have a heart to heart
- 10:10Speaker 2: about what.
- 10:10Speaker 3: It is that you really need in this moment.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, oh yeah, And how awakening has that been?
- 10:19Speaker 1: I like you personally, but I've also seen friends and
- 10:22Speaker 1: I'm like, wow, what you have done in the way
- 10:24Speaker 1: you have grown this past year is phenomenal. It's just
- 10:28Speaker 1: it's so nice to see as long as it's plastic.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Okay, So beyond that experience is super high high for
- 10:37Speaker 2: you in twenty twenty one, talk to me about perhaps
- 10:42Speaker 2: maybe what another lesson was for you over the past
- 10:45Speaker 2: three sixty.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Five Kindness to myself of and I mean we all
- 10:52Speaker 1: talk about that. We talk about self love, we talk
- 10:54Speaker 1: about respecting our own bodies, especially in the industry that
- 10:57Speaker 1: I'm in. But this year I actually realized that I
- 11:02Speaker 1: needed to do it. And I think that's a big
- 11:05Speaker 1: thing for someone in fitness, is that we say we'd
- 11:08Speaker 1: advise people to do things a lot of the time
- 11:10Speaker 1: when we don't always practice what we preach. And I
- 11:14Speaker 1: wouldn't say I fell out of love with running earlier
- 11:17Speaker 1: this year, but my body took a beating after the trials.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I was exhausted. I was emotionally in a bad place
- 11:27Speaker 1: because I got stuck in the UK and I wasn't
- 11:29Speaker 1: sure if I was going to be able to even
- 11:31Speaker 1: come back to the US. It was at that point
- 11:33Speaker 1: of like, is my life in the US on pause
- 11:36Speaker 1: for now? And I just by the time I got
- 11:41Speaker 1: back here two weeks after I should have done, I
- 11:44Speaker 1: was really run down and really just not wanting to
- 11:48Speaker 1: do anything. I'd run and run and run while I
- 11:51Speaker 1: was stuck in the UK, which is the worst thing
- 11:53Speaker 1: anyone could do. After competing in a marathon, no matter
- 11:57Speaker 1: what time you run, you need to rest your body.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And I didn't, and I really reaped the benefits mentally,
- 12:04Speaker 1: not physically, what of how that happened, how that rolled
- 12:08Speaker 1: through my body, and it was just I didn't want
- 12:11Speaker 1: to lace up and go for a run. I knew
- 12:13Speaker 1: that my hip was sore, my knee was sore, and
- 12:16Speaker 1: I had to really sit back and be like, Okay,
- 12:20Speaker 1: you're not going to run. You're not going to head
- 12:22Speaker 1: out for a run and soothe your mind as you
- 12:27Speaker 1: have done for so many months or years previously. You've
- 12:29Speaker 1: got to find something else to do. And it was
- 12:33Speaker 1: a very gracious moment to realize, I don't I'm not
- 12:38Speaker 1: in the mood to run, and it's okay. It's actually okay,
- 12:41Speaker 1: I don't mind that, and it's ebbed and flowed. I
- 12:45Speaker 1: went from my first run outside in a month the
- 12:48Speaker 1: other day. I was sick for a while. I was
- 12:51Speaker 1: in Hawaii. That was the last time I ran outside.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So obviously you know, now it's freezing and you're like, ah,
- 12:55Speaker 1: I was in sports for a month ago on a
- 12:57Speaker 1: beautiful Hawaiian island. I don't particularly want to running the cold,
- 13:00Speaker 1: windy New York. But it was really funny how okay
- 13:06Speaker 1: I was with that. And it's not that I haven't
- 13:08Speaker 1: run for a month. I run pretty much every day
- 13:10Speaker 1: on my tread. But it's funny just to see the
- 13:13Speaker 1: changes and just being so okay with like, that's fine.
- 13:18Speaker 1: My body's better than my running, and my body's having
- 13:22Speaker 1: its own time of healing and strengthening in different ways,
- 13:26Speaker 1: like going back to the gym and lifting heavy weights
- 13:30Speaker 1: and just god, like, it's been years since I've put
- 13:33Speaker 1: on a massive frontwreck and gone to the bars. Now
- 13:37Speaker 1: I'm doing that again, and it's so fun to just yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I keep saying, being okay with doing different things.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Yeah, And I love that point about finding outlets beyond
- 13:47Speaker 2: physical activity, certainly as someone myself who that is my
- 13:51Speaker 2: main outlet as well to take care of yourself and
- 13:54Speaker 2: like be kind with that. When you talk about finding
- 13:57Speaker 2: those other outlets, talk to me a little bit about
- 13:59Speaker 2: what's of those were for you.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Resting, realizing that, you know, sitting and I years ago
- 14:08Speaker 1: a friend said to me, never do something you don't
- 14:11Speaker 1: want to do. And then through multiple you know, not
- 14:16Speaker 1: self help books, but like readings and learnings over the
- 14:20Speaker 1: past few years, I talk about it to my runners.
- 14:24Speaker 1: You've got to get uncomfortable. And I think a lot
- 14:26Speaker 1: of the time these mantras that we say get taken
- 14:30Speaker 1: out of context after a while and turned into like
- 14:35Speaker 1: you've got to do stuff that scares you to grow
- 14:37Speaker 1: and like you've got to get uncomfortable. That shouldn't be
- 14:42Speaker 1: put in the same bucket as doing something that you
- 14:44Speaker 1: don't want to do. Discomfort and wanting to do something aren't,
- 14:48Speaker 1: you know, they're very different. And there were days where
- 14:53Speaker 1: when I didn't want to run, it wasn't because I
- 14:56Speaker 1: was like, oh, you know, I should, I should go
- 14:58Speaker 1: and get uncomfortable and find my way to run. I
- 15:03Speaker 1: just didn't want to move in that way. So I
- 15:05Speaker 1: found ways of like wanting to stretch, or do a
- 15:10Speaker 1: core class, or sit in my normal tech boots and
- 15:14Speaker 1: watch something, read something. I bought an iPad because I
- 15:19Speaker 1: was so sick of reading stuff on my phone and
- 15:22Speaker 1: having notifications coming in or getting sidetracked by Instagram whatever
- 15:27Speaker 1: it was. And I got an iPad, a little tiny
- 15:29Speaker 1: iPad that is not hooked up to anything other than
- 15:33Speaker 1: the Internet, so I can read news articles, I can
- 15:37Speaker 1: send stuff to it if I want to sit down
- 15:38Speaker 1: and just learn on it. And that was probably my
- 15:43Speaker 1: best idea that I've had this year, of that disconnection
- 15:46Speaker 1: moment and putting myself first of like, you know, you
- 15:50Speaker 1: can put do you Not Disturb on your phone, but
- 15:53Speaker 1: you can still bug people. You can tell them that
- 15:54Speaker 1: they've got do not Disturb on but you can still
- 15:56Speaker 1: ask for it to be sent through. And you know
- 16:00Speaker 1: levels of how you manage your own time and how
- 16:03Speaker 1: you value it. And for me that my little silly
- 16:06Speaker 1: iPad mini is my new downtime.
- 16:10Speaker 2: What a smart idea, What a great buy for you
- 16:13Speaker 2: in twenty twenty one.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I love that I've gotten on like the grandma of like,
- 16:17Speaker 1: oh has anyone else had at these times? iPads? Yes,
- 16:23Speaker 1: back to.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Do the folks Do the rest of the world know
- 16:27Speaker 2: about this great invention? Oh my gosh, Oh my god.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I mean you're highlighting something else that I think a
- 16:35Speaker 2: lot of people prioritized over twenty twenty two. For sure
- 16:39Speaker 2: twenty twenty one as well, this idea of disconnecting to
- 16:43Speaker 2: get to a place where reconnecting feels good.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I know that for me personally, definitely.
- 16:50Speaker 2: The DND on my phone is something that I've used
- 16:54Speaker 2: more than ever for entire work days.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Now I will literally not keep my.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Phone on my desk, keep the focus mode, which is
- 17:01Speaker 2: like a new thing I think that they invented for
- 17:03Speaker 2: my computer. Again, we sound like we're like ninety two
- 17:05Speaker 2: years old just learning about technology for the first time.
- 17:07Speaker 3: But it is a joy.
- 17:09Speaker 2: It is a joy to be truly able to focus
- 17:12Speaker 2: on the task at hand, something that pre pandemic, I
- 17:15Speaker 2: can certainly say. I like used to pride myself on
- 17:19Speaker 2: being this like valiant multitasker, and now I am so
- 17:22Speaker 2: happy that I am not.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah, I agree, and I love to hear
- 17:27Speaker 1: that from somebody like you, who you do come across
- 17:30Speaker 1: as being busy or did, and I've seen it in
- 17:33Speaker 1: your social media. You're so honest these days of like, no,
- 17:37Speaker 1: I didn't go for my run this morning. I did
- 17:39Speaker 1: this instead. I organized your amazingly color coordinated bookshelf. And
- 17:44Speaker 1: I remember when you moved into your apartment and the
- 17:46Speaker 1: stuff you were going through at that time, of like
- 17:49Speaker 1: resetting and getting your studio set up, and yeah that like, no,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I'm just going to focus on this right now, and
- 17:56Speaker 1: this is fine and it's not selfish. It's actually fabulous.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It's fabulous. It's fabulous. You're so kind to me in
- 18:04Speaker 2: my little space and keeping.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Track of my little world.
- 18:08Speaker 2: If we had to highlight another big learning for you
- 18:11Speaker 2: from twenty twenty one, what else.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Do you have for us backs It sounds kind of morbid,
- 18:15Speaker 1: but I think time is so precious. I've learned a
- 18:18Speaker 1: lot about health. And again, you know, I'm definitely not
- 18:22Speaker 1: the only one I'm saying, as everybody in this whole world,
- 18:24Speaker 1: we're disconnected from our loved ones unless you're very lucky
- 18:26Speaker 1: in there or surrounded and you can see them and
- 18:30Speaker 1: for me, making the most of time with be it friends, family,
- 18:35Speaker 1: whoever is huge to me. And my boyfriend's mom is
- 18:41Speaker 1: a stickler for no phones at the dinner table, and
- 18:45Speaker 1: like she's just and she's fierce about it. If my
- 18:50Speaker 1: boyfriend's twin, her husband is always working, not in a
- 18:55Speaker 1: bad way, but he just has his phone and he
- 18:57Speaker 1: has a teeny tiny one, the tiny tiny iPad, but
- 19:00Speaker 1: he often will just have it in his pocket and
- 19:02Speaker 1: you can just see he'll read an email really quickly,
- 19:05Speaker 1: like he's super senior. And we were having dinner really
- 19:08Speaker 1: early and that people are still working at six pm,
- 19:11Speaker 1: and she is She's like, William, well, you know, and
- 19:16Speaker 1: we all after time have learned now that that is
- 19:19Speaker 1: It's a beautiful thing that we sat and we talked
- 19:23Speaker 1: to one another. We weren't looking at our phones, we
- 19:26Speaker 1: weren't checking in on what other people were doing. We
- 19:28Speaker 1: were here focusing on the moment of having dinner together,
- 19:31Speaker 1: of catching up on each other weeks, months, whenever it
- 19:34Speaker 1: was the last time we saw each other. And I
- 19:37Speaker 1: think that for me has been a big learning curve
- 19:40Speaker 1: and same with it, do not disturb I've probably said
- 19:44Speaker 1: this before. We have a zero technology role in our
- 19:47Speaker 1: bedroom at home and phones are left out here there
- 19:50Speaker 1: on do not disturb and we both now started to
- 19:53Speaker 1: implement for the first at least half an hour of
- 19:55Speaker 1: the day, we're not picking up our phones when we
- 19:57Speaker 1: wake up. We will catch up on the news on TV,
- 20:02Speaker 1: or we'll just talk to each other about our day
- 20:05Speaker 1: and what's going on, and we'll take the dogs out
- 20:07Speaker 1: without phones. And it's just it's being it's living in
- 20:12Speaker 1: the here and now and not always focusing on the future,
- 20:16Speaker 1: the goal in the future. And I take a lot
- 20:19Speaker 1: of that learning from an incredible book that I've been reading,
- 20:24Speaker 1: and it's about that that craving for dopamine, which is
- 20:27Speaker 1: our long term like we're like I want this, I
- 20:29Speaker 1: want this, I want to strive for this, and we
- 20:31Speaker 1: forget about the process and living in the here and now.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And that's it's changed my mind so much this year
- 20:36Speaker 1: of like, no, the hero and now is actually what
- 20:38Speaker 1: makes us glow and what makes us people humans, That
- 20:43Speaker 1: human interaction is here and now and that that's probably
- 20:47Speaker 1: my my other big learning that and the iPad.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Wow, do you remember the name of the book?
- 20:52Speaker 1: It is the molecule of more.
- 20:56Speaker 2: The molecule of more. Maybe it'll be an eventual hurdle
- 20:59Speaker 2: book Club.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Oh, I would highly recommend it. I've read the book
- 21:04Speaker 1: and listen to it. I listened to it first on
- 21:06Speaker 1: an audio book, and then the author very kindly sent
- 21:10Speaker 1: me a copy of the book, and I've also read it.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I just love it. I feel like I learned so
- 21:14Speaker 1: much from it every time.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I love it. I love it well.
- 21:19Speaker 2: So interesting hearing all of your takeaways here, I think
- 21:22Speaker 2: that a lot of us can really relate to what
- 21:25Speaker 2: you've been going through. I personally am also super big
- 21:29Speaker 2: on this, like no tech for the first thirty minutes
- 21:33Speaker 2: at least of when I get out of bed in
- 21:34Speaker 2: the morning. Oftentimes, like the first time I'll actually grab
- 21:38Speaker 2: my phone is when I'm just about to leave to
- 21:40Speaker 2: do that lace up and get out of there, so
- 21:42Speaker 2: I'll have my whole morning routine, the coffee, the journaling,
- 21:46Speaker 2: all that stuff, and then I'm like.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Okay, I guess I'll go pick up my phone now.
- 21:50Speaker 2: And some days I dread it, and that's because like
- 21:52Speaker 2: I don't want to see what's waiting for me on
- 21:54Speaker 2: the phone. But a lot of days I won't even
- 21:56Speaker 2: get to that part of my day until after the
- 22:00Speaker 2: So it's like I'll pick up the phone to do
- 22:01Speaker 2: what I want to do, and I won't like truly
- 22:04Speaker 2: look at what anybody else has tried to communicate with me,
- 22:07Speaker 2: what emails are in my inbox until that run is done,
- 22:10Speaker 2: and I've taken the time that I need for myself
- 22:12Speaker 2: so that I can better serve whoever else is trying
- 22:15Speaker 2: to get at me, you know what I mean.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that. That's so nice of being able
- 22:20Speaker 1: to go for a run like that. And I definitely
- 22:23Speaker 1: said this you before. I mean, I never ever really
- 22:27Speaker 1: take photos of my runs anymore, and it's I kind
- 22:30Speaker 1: of forget my phone I go out, you know, especially
- 22:33Speaker 1: now I'm doing short runs. When I was marathon training,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I had my phone for safety and yeah, an audiobook
- 22:39Speaker 1: probably as well. But now sometimes I just yeah, I
- 22:42Speaker 1: get out the door that I come back and I'm
- 22:44Speaker 1: like double the amount of messages and emails.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I don't know how you all handle it, man, I
- 22:51Speaker 2: really don't. I applaud you for the good that you
- 22:54Speaker 2: do on behalf of so many other people. Now, as
- 22:57Speaker 2: we wind down here, we talked about reflection in twenty
- 23:00Speaker 2: twenty one. Do you want to give us some insight
- 23:03Speaker 2: into what you're excited about about twenty twenty two.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Continual growth always is twenty twenty two for me, and
- 23:12Speaker 1: I think just the I think whatever is on the
- 23:16Speaker 1: horizon right now is very daunting because we're in this
- 23:23Speaker 1: big place of uncertainty and the world is sort of
- 23:28Speaker 1: going in circles and nobody likes that, you know, unless
- 23:31Speaker 1: you're Nemo, and it's not. It's not where I think
- 23:35Speaker 1: humans thrive the best at all. So I think it's
- 23:40Speaker 1: it's a continuation of learning to ride the wave and
- 23:45Speaker 1: learning to be adaptable. And I'm not generally a very
- 23:50Speaker 1: adaptable person. That may sound funny, people are I want
- 23:54Speaker 1: I'm quite I'm aries, I'm quite stuck in my ways,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I'm quite stubborn, and I'm I've been working with a
- 24:01Speaker 1: life and energy coach to try and help change that
- 24:03Speaker 1: because I feel if next year continues has this year
- 24:07Speaker 1: has been in the previous year, I am going to
- 24:10Speaker 1: have to lean on somebody else to help me navigate
- 24:13Speaker 1: these changes and be more open to changes of stuff
- 24:17Speaker 1: that I don't necessarily like or want and then not
- 24:21Speaker 1: let that affect my positive energy. And I'm really excited
- 24:25Speaker 1: about that journey. Oh my oh god, this is going
- 24:28Speaker 1: to be a really new thing for me. But I
- 24:31Speaker 1: think that taking on something new that you know is
- 24:35Speaker 1: going to challenge you in a different way, not a
- 24:37Speaker 1: fitness way. I have no races on the calendar next year.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I have no idea if I will do one or not,
- 24:43Speaker 1: and what that would be, whether it be a marathon
- 24:45Speaker 1: or a mile, I don't know. And I kind of
- 24:48Speaker 1: like that. And so maybe the life coach is helping already.
- 24:53Speaker 2: I mean, what a beautiful kind of sentiment there, right
- 24:55Speaker 2: about the importance of allowing someone else to help you
- 25:01Speaker 2: when things feel hard. I think that so often it's
- 25:04Speaker 2: kind of a little bit of stubbornness and just this
- 25:07Speaker 2: you know, determination almost that we want to be able
- 25:10Speaker 2: to shoulder the burden and to take care of ourselves
- 25:13Speaker 2: and do everything on our own time. But there is
- 25:16Speaker 2: absolutely nothing wrong with reaching out for help. And I
- 25:21Speaker 2: would argue that the strongest individuals are the individuals who
- 25:24Speaker 2: have truly homed in on that skill and are okay
- 25:29Speaker 2: and almost excited about the opportunity to have someone else
- 25:33Speaker 2: help them get to where they want to be.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, I hugely agree, especially having been the
- 25:39Speaker 1: other person who never asked the help.
- 25:41Speaker 2: And yeah, yeah, such a game changer, Such a game changer.
- 25:46Speaker 2: All right, final question here becks right now, you know
- 25:49Speaker 2: how we do haun hurdle. You have an opportunity to
- 25:52Speaker 2: offer yourself this week, the first week of the year,
- 25:56Speaker 2: a piece of advice. Back on January one, twenty twenty one,
- 26:02Speaker 2: what do you tell yourself looking back on the past
- 26:05Speaker 2: three sixty.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Five this year, the road least traveled might not be
- 26:13Speaker 1: the best way. I think it's definitely something that I
- 26:19Speaker 1: normally I do like going the road least traveled. Do
- 26:22Speaker 1: something new, do something interesting. I think twenty twenty one
- 26:26Speaker 1: was a year of you know what, why don't we
- 26:29Speaker 1: stick with the safest and most experienced route to get
- 26:35Speaker 1: from a to be? And I think, yeah, trying not
- 26:38Speaker 1: to deviate off for the sake of it. Would it
- 26:41Speaker 1: be my advice.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Stick with what you know, find comfort and what you know,
- 26:48Speaker 2: and trust the process.
- 26:49Speaker 1: It seems right process for sure?
- 26:51Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Well, thanks again so much for your time. I appreciate
- 26:55Speaker 2: you as always. I hope that I actually run into
- 26:58Speaker 2: you irl soon.
- 27:00Speaker 3: How do the I know?
- 27:01Speaker 2: I can't believe that we haven't run into each other
- 27:02Speaker 2: with like our proximity and.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Our running in general.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But how do the hurdlers keep up with you? How
- 27:09Speaker 2: do they follow along with you? Give me all the details.
- 27:12Speaker 1: You can find me on Instagram, at text Gentry, you
- 27:15Speaker 1: can hop into a pass on class on the app
- 27:18Speaker 1: or on the hardware, whatever you like. Or you can
- 27:21Speaker 1: probably find me running in New York somewhat sometime.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Somewhere, sometime. Just look up. She might be right behind you.
- 27:30Speaker 2: I'm over at Hurdle Podcast and over at Emily Abodi
- 27:33Speaker 2: another hurdle conquered.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Catch you guys next time
