- 0:00These and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Chinook Cedry. This is episode 533.
- 0:18I'll be your host, Kyle Korn. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes. Nate.
- 0:25Casey, how are we? Happy early birthday.
- 0:32Thanks man. I'll wish you happy birthday the
- 0:35next time we record, but happy early birthday.
- 0:38I appreciate it. It's it's tough, man.
- 0:45You're going to be 30. Two dude, 32, man, 32.
- 0:50I was just, we were talking about offline like I wish for
- 0:55one thing on my birthday and it's a Yankees win.
- 0:58And this Thursday is the like one of the first times the
- 1:01Yankees haven't played on my birthday and I don't know how
- 1:03long outside of 2020. And we were like looking through
- 1:10all the past scores and I was like, Oh yeah, I think I
- 1:14remember specifically they won last year was a doubleheader.
- 1:17I don't remember who they played.
- 1:19And then I looked that was 2022, man, that was three years ago
- 1:24that that was a doubleheader. That wasn't last year.
- 1:28That was 3 trips around the sun ago.
- 1:34So that's pretty disappointing. Just shows how fast the old
- 1:43TikTok flies. So it's, it's depressing, but
- 1:47you know, we're OK. We're going to deal with it.
- 1:51Everyone keeps saying the 30s are a lot better than the 20s.
- 1:54So I'm just going to embrace it. I'm going to just going to
- 1:57assume it gets a lot better, you know?
- 1:5930s are treating me real well. Can't even lie, Can't even lie.
- 2:03You want to talk some ball? Sure, I guess that's why we're
- 2:10here. Let's talk some ball poor.
- 2:15Per your request. We're going to, we're going to
- 2:20grade. We're going to grade a broadcast
- 2:22call. You want you want to do it right
- 2:23off the top or shall we wait? Call the week.
- 2:27Call the week here you here you have it, folks.
- 2:32High flight ball, deep right field wave goodbye.
- 2:36A Grand Slam for Daniel Sneeman and the Guardians have flipped
- 2:42the script here in the 9th to take a 5 three lead.
- 2:47Oh how sneed it is. Well, he did not.
- 2:54Miss it? We're going.
- 2:57Let's watch that again. High flood ball, deep right
- 3:00field, wave goodbye. A Grand Slam for Daniel Sneeman
- 3:06and the Guardians have flipped the script here in the 9th to
- 3:10take a 5 three lead. Oh how Schnee it is.
- 3:19Well, he did not miss it. I There's something beautiful
- 3:25about a call on the road. Oh, I was saying the same thing.
- 3:31For a big moment, man, there's something beautiful.
- 3:35About it. The silence in the background is
- 3:41awesome. It makes you wonder, like how
- 3:43many rows down from the booth you could be and still and hear
- 3:49a call like that 'cause everybody else is going radio,
- 3:53pun intended, radio silent, sure.
- 3:56And this guy's just letting it eat up in the booth.
- 3:59I that was a fantastic call. I was AII think I was a great
- 4:02call. Who was that?
- 4:06Daniel Seaman. No, come on, man.
- 4:10Who are you? Oh, making the call?
- 4:12Yeah. Was that the Guardians team?
- 4:16Yeah, had to been. Was that Tom Hamilton?
- 4:27Yeah, Tom Hamilton shot him out. Radio, because Matt Underwood is
- 4:37TV. OK, so don't shout out Tom
- 4:42Hamilton. How do we know?
- 4:49How can we know? How can we find out?
- 4:51It's probably something we should have looked up
- 4:53beforehand, but hey, you know, it's a new segment and we're
- 4:56still, we're still using our way into it.
- 4:59Well, we got to give. We got to give due credit.
- 5:01Yeah. Matt Underwood.
- 5:02Yep, Yep, Yep. Good call, Matt Underwood
- 5:05confirmed. Real, real solid call.
- 5:08I'm I'm going strong here. I think I think the volume was
- 5:15great. I think the flip the script
- 5:20nugget drop in there was was real nice.
- 5:29I don't know how is it that how schny it is?
- 5:32Is that supposed to be like how sweet it is?
- 5:35Is that the play on words there? Yeah, you know.
- 5:38I didn't love that. I'm going to be honest.
- 5:40Here's that took me a tick down just.
- 5:43Here's the gap. Here's the gap from here to
- 5:48there. That's the leap I'm going to
- 5:50take in assuming that that's what that was.
- 5:55Yeah, yeah. Not a, not a big one, not a big
- 6:01leap. You're not.
- 6:02You're not big about how Schnee it is.
- 6:04I, yeah, it's it lost it lost just a little.
- 6:08The rest of it was excellent. I mean, I, I think I'm, I'm
- 6:14going to go with like a strong 84 here. 84 That's I feel like
- 6:23you kind of lost me. 84 you think I mean the the mid, the
- 6:30mid eights and up. I mean, you really, you like
- 6:33you. We got to reserve that for like
- 6:36something special. Now see, I, I feel like the
- 6:41nines are like almost like an untouchable.
- 6:45It's got to be a big, big moment.
- 6:47It's got to be. AI mean nines are like a given
- 6:50giving out nines like a like a Joe Davis in October kind of
- 6:56situation. Yeah, 'cause he finds his, well,
- 6:59I mean, he's, he's great, but he really hits his stride in
- 7:02October with Fox and all that. I've lost Joe Davis is kind of
- 7:10going to tick down for me just because he calls the Dodgers
- 7:13games regularly and I feel like the Dodgers postseason bias, you
- 7:20can't help but just feel like it's still.
- 7:22There how many is human, man? He's human.
- 7:24What can what can you do? But yeah, I'm going 84 on this.
- 7:27I was, I was going to go, I was going to go 85.
- 7:31But the the how Schnee it is, yeah.
- 7:36That doesn't bother me. That doesn't bother me.
- 7:39I'm going to go 79. Strong. 79.
- 7:44Respect on that. You know, that's a, that's a
- 7:47good call. Big moment too, talking about
- 7:52Mr. Schneeman accounting for all the Guardians runs in that game
- 7:579th inning, go ahead home run for those who weren't able to to
- 8:00watch on YouTube. Big moment, big moment.
- 8:05This is what the guards are, man.
- 8:07I've been trying to tell you everyone, everyone sleeps on the
- 8:12guardians year over year and it's like they just, they find
- 8:15names, they find production, they play ball the right way and
- 8:20they're just in the hunt like the A's of the of Ohio.
- 8:26Some may say you know the A's of of Ohio.
- 8:28Is that what they're saying? Some, some say, some say that.
- 8:34Let's talk about some headlines that are that are happening
- 8:38right now in baseball. Some headlines that some
- 8:41storylines, some narratives that you as a baseball fan need to be
- 8:46familiar with. Let's start with yeah, let's
- 8:55start with show Hey. Let's let's talk show hey.
- 8:58And I'm glad, I'm glad we're getting the opportunity to start
- 9:01with show Hey here, because a couple names that May maybe
- 9:06mentioned in this segment already went deep tonight,
- 9:09including show Hey. And another name that may pop
- 9:12up, Corbin Carroll, apparently just went deep moments ago.
- 9:16But the storyline here, the narrative rather, is that
- 9:23actually, no, I'm going to pose this as a question.
- 9:25I won't even call it a narrative.
- 9:30Does Shohei Otani miss out on the MVP in 2025?
- 9:38And honestly, as I say that, it doesn't sound like that hot of a
- 9:45take because I I. It doesn't.
- 9:47The the more, the more games that pass.
- 9:52I think the reality is that he we're not.
- 9:56I just don't think we're going to see him on a mound this year.
- 9:59I'm just, I'm really, I'm really gathering, like I'm really
- 10:02getting that sense. Not in time.
- 10:03Not in time enough for it to impact the MVP voter.
- 10:07His case, correct. Yeah, I think.
- 10:13I think what's really weird about his, the perspective on
- 10:22him is and, and I know like everyone's conversation has been
- 10:28like, oh, he's just, it's going to happen every year.
- 10:31If he this is what he does. If he was able to win it as ADH
- 10:33only last year without even pitching, like it's his every
- 10:37year. And I get the sentiment of that.
- 10:40I get the ability of that. That does make sense.
- 10:45Where I struggle is if you're going back-to-back years of DH
- 10:53only, I feel like after going what he did last year, like you
- 11:02almost have to go a tick above like 5050 was insane, never been
- 11:09done. Now you got to show us something
- 11:12else that you're that is better than last year somehow.
- 11:17And that's hard to do because that was one of the greatest
- 11:20offensive seasons we've ever seen.
- 11:25I think once pitching does get back into the mix, if it happens
- 11:30early enough this year, if it ends up being next year and then
- 11:34all of a sudden you see this like, OK, maybe it's not 5050
- 11:37again, but he did pitch 2728 starts to a sub 32 ERA.
- 11:44Like, of course he's going to win MVP, You know what I'm
- 11:47saying? Like, but without that and
- 11:49you're not, and he still has time obviously, but like you'd
- 11:53have to repeat last year. And that's really hard to do.
- 11:59And I, I think in a way everyone's just kind of numb to
- 12:04it, which is also weird. Like we take it, we take for
- 12:11granted players. This is just what we do as fans.
- 12:14Sure, baseball riders are the same way.
- 12:15Like we just take for granted, like what these guys do year
- 12:19after year after year. And then we just kind of become
- 12:23numb to it. So I'm going to say yeah, he
- 12:27loses out on the MVPI. Want to hear you say that again?
- 12:34I want you to. I want you to look at me.
- 12:38And you're the one that asked that question.
- 12:39That said, it wasn't even that much that much of A hot take.
- 12:42Yes, he misses out on the NLMVP this year.
- 12:49Wow. Well, let's get into some names
- 12:53that. Could in first week of May could
- 12:56make that call. Well, well, I, I, I posed that
- 13:02question yourself. Well, I'm going to let's let's
- 13:07talk some numbers elsewhere around the league and then maybe
- 13:10I'll make a, I'll make a judgement call.
- 13:12Just stir the pot on Nate. I make I I pose that question
- 13:16because the names that are on his tail.
- 13:20You could even make the argument that one or two of these names
- 13:24are already the Otani might be looking up at at one or two of
- 13:29these names. You could make the case their
- 13:33names that this isn't a fluke, like these are guys that you can
- 13:39assume will be in the conversation at the end of the
- 13:43season. One name being Fernando Tatis,
- 13:47junior on the year coming into today, Monday, he's second, tied
- 13:57for second in the league or or all of baseball, I should say.
- 14:00And B wore at 24 behind Judges 31, which we all know what Aaron
- 14:05Judge is doing. 24 wore on a season, 8 homers sitting 328,
- 14:14slashing 399-570-4972 OPS plus of 162 or 169.
- 14:21Excuse me? It's great.
- 14:27It's great. I mean, that's really good.
- 14:31That's outside of the war conversation and a higher clip
- 14:39when it comes to average. I mean, almost looking at his
- 14:45slash line, Tati's 399-570-4972, Otani 399-570-1970, almost
- 14:53identical. And don't forget he's playing on
- 15:00the other side of the ball as well.
- 15:03So that's. Like to like a top tier level?
- 15:06That's right. That's what I'm saying as he
- 15:10pops up on my TV as I speak. So that's the name in the mix.
- 15:15Another name in the mix, Kyle Tucker sitting 29292 coming in
- 15:20today, Monday, 9 homers slashing 399-570-7975 with an OPS plus of
- 15:27174. So again, almost identical
- 15:30numbers like almost down to like the 10th or the the thousandth I
- 15:39should say. And both of these are named,
- 15:45both guys are, are guys that are contributing to teams that are
- 15:49playing at a very, very, very high level right now.
- 15:53Yeah, it's not crazy, man. It's not crazy because like you
- 16:01also have to account for the fact that there's conversations
- 16:08around the Dodgers of like, you know, it's, it's a loaded team.
- 16:14And I, I have to think that there's writers who vote for
- 16:19this out there that have a little more weight in the word,
- 16:25in the word value, right? And you can look at Shohei and
- 16:33say, like, you know what, I've I think the Dodgers are OK without
- 16:38you putting up mammoth numbers. I think they're OK with you
- 16:44being middle of the road to your standard, which is still great
- 16:49and better than most players. When you look around at some of
- 16:53these other guys and you just, you look at what the value of
- 16:57what Kyle Tucker is doing for the Cubs, it's it's hard to
- 17:04imagine if you put emphasis on that word, it's hard to imagine
- 17:11a a more valuable player at the moment.
- 17:14So far I think Totsie's has been great, but I I give the edge to
- 17:19Kyle Tucker right now as Mike Shield is getting into.
- 17:26It I was going to say to you, Mike Shield is letting it eat.
- 17:30Fire the boys up, Mike, that's an old school manager right
- 17:36there. I know, I really.
- 17:38Like him, man, I really do. The aforementioned Corbin
- 17:41Carroll coming into the day. 9 homers make it 10 with tonight's
- 17:48Homer. Game's not even over yet.
- 17:50Might even add to that. He's in 281 again, coming in
- 17:53today slashing 344-570-5919 with an OPS plus of 152.
- 17:59I don't think he's going to be. I, I think if the, the, if the
- 18:07trajectories of the players we just discussed continue, I just
- 18:12think that their skill set is going to play a little better
- 18:18when it comes to the MVP conversation.
- 18:20Not to take anything away from Corbin Carroll, but I, I just
- 18:24feel like it's a, we're talking about a different type of player
- 18:29from, in comparison to somebody like I just a.
- 18:33Different tier, yeah, I think. Or even Tucker.
- 18:36I think Corbin Carroll's great man.
- 18:38I think he's really, really good.
- 18:42It's good to see him back. He feels like he's back it.
- 18:46It just seems that way. I'd like to see those numbers go
- 18:48up, just creep up a little bit more.
- 18:51I'd like to see, I'd love to see the average get above 3 because
- 18:58I know batting average doesn't matter the way it used to in in
- 19:01a lot of people's eyes. But when you have the number of
- 19:04players that you do hitting over 300 right now and are doing it
- 19:10year after year, I feel like it's starting to matter a little
- 19:14bit more. And I'd like to see on base to
- 19:16to creep above. I don't know for MVP status,
- 19:22it's got to be in the force for me.
- 19:25I think it I think on base has to be in the force to have that
- 19:28conversation. So it's good to see the pop
- 19:32back. I'd, I'd like to see the rest of
- 19:34it kind of kind of come back to. Well, I mean, you're talking
- 19:39about an OVP that's in the force.
- 19:43Let's talk about a guy that is satisfying that benchmark.
- 19:48Another headline that you need to be aware of, familiar with is
- 19:53the fact that right now, in this, at this very moment, Pete
- 19:58Alonso is the best player on the Mets right now.
- 20:02And I got to say, if you would have told me that a month plus
- 20:07into the season, if you would have told me that back in.
- 20:12December, that one. Pete Alonso is even going to be
- 20:18on the Mets. But two a month into the season,
- 20:22far and away the best player on the Mets right now.
- 20:26And that this brought in that this podcast would be would be
- 20:30giving him his flowers. I wouldn't have said that
- 20:34either. I mean, how sustainable is is
- 20:39this? I mean, Pete's a man on a
- 20:41mission right now. Coming into today, he's already
- 20:45accumulated a WAR of 248 homers on the year, is hitting 344 with
- 20:5231 ribbies. He's slashing 460-8656 and 11:24
- 21:03for an OPS with an OPS plus of 220.
- 21:10That's that's crazy. That's big dog numbers.
- 21:16And if you don't believe me, I mean, take your pick of category
- 21:23OPS 11. What did I say?
- 21:26Well, MLB might be showing me some a little different. 11/24.
- 21:30Well, right now, MLB is showing me 1116 anyway.
- 21:35Doesn't matter. Juan Soto, next in line, 812.
- 21:38Frankie Lindor. You know him, you love him.
- 21:42Eight O 2. Brandon Nimmo, next in line,
- 21:47seven O 4 Homers. As you would imagine, bringing
- 21:53the power to that lineup leads a team with eight average.
- 22:00That's the thing that's I say it all the time.
- 22:04Say what you will about batting average, but the fact he's
- 22:05hitting at a clip of 341 is crazy.
- 22:10And. It is.
- 22:12But the on base, as you mentioned, we're talking MVP
- 22:17worthy thresholds 465, dude, he's getting on base.
- 22:26I mean, we talked what was the last episode about the fact that
- 22:28Judge is getting on base one out of every two.
- 22:33Yeah, trips to the plate, and Pete's not far behind him.
- 22:40Yeah, I mean, walk rate for his career has been at 10.2%.
- 22:45He's so far this year at 16% and of course the strikeouts are
- 22:50coming down as well. Career 22, five this series at
- 22:5415. It's also hitting the ball hard.
- 23:03It's average exit velocity right now is 95.
- 23:06Is he using a torpedo bat? I.
- 23:10Don't think so. Is.
- 23:11He I'm not trying to be coy here.
- 23:14Like I'm, I'm serious because like over his career, that's
- 23:18it's just 90. So no, it's been a tick up.
- 23:24No, not using torpedo. It's confirmed freaking Devin
- 23:31Williams, man. Barrel percentage is way up, so
- 23:37he's just barreling balls, man. Barrel percentage over his
- 23:42career is 14%. He's at 19% so far.
- 23:44So he's just squaring baseballs up.
- 23:47Let me ask you this. Walking and not striking out and
- 23:50it's a good mix. Let me ask you this, if you had
- 23:53to guess, how much of how much do you think he, we'll say,
- 23:59positively channelled what happened this offseason into his
- 24:04start, into propelling him to the start that he's got this
- 24:09year? Do you think he's the kind of
- 24:14guy that that sort of compartmentalizes, that puts in
- 24:17the box, puts it up on the shelf, doesn't think about it?
- 24:20Or do you think that Pete Alonso is the kind of guy that takes, I
- 24:25mean, let's just call a spade a spade, the disrespect that I
- 24:27feel like he probably felt like he received and is using that to
- 24:32be like, hey, I mean, you can bring in a guy for $765,000,000
- 24:36and you can continue to put Frankie Lindor's name above mine
- 24:41in, in, in terms of the the hierarchy of this franchise.
- 24:45But I'm no like I'm I'm no scrub.
- 24:52Yeah, I mean, I, I feel like the guy has had bullets and board
- 25:02material since college. Dude was bullied in college and
- 25:09and you got to argue he's bullied in the MLB by fans, by
- 25:13us. Yeah, but how much of that is?
- 25:14Brought by media get I'd for sure get that.
- 25:17But like, I think this is this. My point is the first time where
- 25:23it was just weird. He got treated weird this
- 25:26offseason. He wasn't treated well.
- 25:30He didn't get the money he deserved.
- 25:34He didn't get the respect on the Mets side that he deserved.
- 25:38Which frankly, I think was all he was after.
- 25:40I don't think he cared about what the rest of the league said
- 25:43about him. I just think he wanted to be
- 25:45appreciated by the Mets. And he's done everything right.
- 25:48He's done everything right. He's, he's checked every box.
- 25:53So shame on the Mets for not for not treating him better.
- 25:59And I don't know, man, like I wouldn't be surprised if he goes
- 26:05elsewhere this offseason, if this stays up, continues to do
- 26:10this. And and you, I mean you're
- 26:12looking at a seven or eight-year deal.
- 26:18I don't know, dude. I mean it's. 30.
- 26:21To go back to the offseason with with this guy he's making like
- 26:25team exclusive offers that you know, like whatever like the
- 26:31only this deal is available to you the New York Mets for a
- 26:36limited time only. I I I feel like he's going to
- 26:40want to stay and not to look so far down the road like to the to
- 26:44free agency already. But I I think he's going to want
- 26:48to stay but that he's going to want there to be a a shift in
- 26:52narrative. There was he's he's going to
- 26:53want he's going to want the tables to be turned a little bit
- 26:57and and given, I won't say given the keys to the team, but like
- 27:03at the very least given the respect he feels that he's.
- 27:06Owed. I don't think the dollar amount
- 27:08matters so much, man. I.
- 27:09Really just think it's the. Length, I think it's just the
- 27:12length. And if you said the Mets gave
- 27:17him six years or above, he's taking it.
- 27:24Don't matter the dollar amount. They really don't.
- 27:30And he would probably retire early and then stay a man.
- 27:36And he should if that's what he wants, he should because look,
- 27:43we may not be fans of of the way he acts or his or his antics or
- 27:49any of that. But like the the reality is like
- 27:51I'm I'm a fan of guys wanting to stick around and stay loyal to a
- 27:54ball club. And true, props to him for
- 27:58wanting this. Props to him for for working for
- 28:03it and earning it. And he deserves it.
- 28:04And I don't know, man, the Mets are just, they're strange.
- 28:08This is weird that they're not. They're not giving them more
- 28:12love. And I wonder how much of the
- 28:14Vladdy extension effects that now that Vlad is officially off
- 28:18the table for the Mets. Valid point.
- 28:24I'll tell you a team that could use a guy like Pete is the Texas
- 28:27Rangers. Nate, are you familiar with how
- 28:33bad this offense is? I don't think I am.
- 28:41It's so bad in Texas that they decided to fire a guy who
- 28:52apparently has held a position that I did not know existed in
- 28:57Major League Baseball. The Rangers have fired offensive
- 29:02coordinator Donnie Ecker on Sunday.
- 29:11This isn't the New York Rangers. Correct.
- 29:17And it's also not The Jets or the Giants.
- 29:22I have no idea if there's offensive coordinators in
- 29:26hockey, but. Yeah, no, Laura, Yeah, in the in
- 29:31the chat, batting coach, hitting coach, whatever you want to call
- 29:34them. I mean, that's that's what
- 29:36they've been called for years. Offensive coordinator.
- 29:39It's not a it's not a real thing in baseball.
- 29:42Yeah, no, it's not a real thing, kind.
- 29:45Of hate it. But no, the headline here, the
- 29:47storyline that you need to be familiar with, is the fact that
- 29:49the Rangers offense sucks. And that's that's important
- 29:52because we're talking about an American League, as we've said
- 29:55for the last, I think at this this rate last two months, the
- 30:02American League is not very good right now.
- 30:06And coming into this year, I won't speak for you, but for me,
- 30:09at the very least, I had the Rangers coming into the into the
- 30:13season as one of the better, if not one of the best teams in the
- 30:16American League, albeit a a pretty lackluster American
- 30:20League. I.
- 30:21Think 1000% one of the best offenses in the American League.
- 30:26Like that seemed like a slam dunk.
- 30:29That seemed like a no brainer. Well, I got some news.
- 30:33They're not in terms of their rankings or forget the American
- 30:40League, just around baseball coming into today, they're
- 30:44averaging 3.2, three runs a game, which is 29th in baseball.
- 30:49Don't forget there's thirty teams for those of you that are
- 30:51keeping track at home, 30 teams in Major League Baseball.
- 30:54They're second to last total bases per game.
- 30:58They're 27th in baseball. They have a run differential of
- 31:02-18 which is 20th in baseball. You want me to go down this list
- 31:09of just offensive metrics here? Yes.
- 31:14Batting average 25th in baseball played appearances at bats.
- 31:20In terms of like getting guys to the plate at bats, 30th in
- 31:25baseball played appearances, 26th in baseball.
- 31:28So not a lot of turnover in the lineup.
- 31:31Runs per game, I believe I mentioned 29th in baseball.
- 31:35Hits per game, 27th in baseball. Home runs per game 20th in
- 31:39baseball RB is per game, 29th in baseball walks per game, 29th in
- 31:47baseball. They're not do like even with
- 31:52with walks hit by pitches They're they're not they're just
- 31:56not getting on base, they're not hitting the baseball.
- 31:58They're not doing anything well offensively, which has LED them
- 32:02to This was an update to my the the notes that I already came
- 32:09into today with is as of today, they've hired Brett Boone to be
- 32:15their hitting coach, which I don't really know what to make
- 32:21of that. But I guess a change in
- 32:25personnel maybe is due. As we say all the time,
- 32:28sometimes the heads got to roll and yeah, they maybe getting a
- 32:34new one in there is better. They're better off for it.
- 32:36Who knows? Maybe.
- 32:38Maybe. I don't know, dude.
- 32:41That's, I mean, at a certain point it does.
- 32:44It's going to have to fall on the players.
- 32:46Like I understand the scapegoat. I understand that one head's got
- 32:51to roll. Every time, I'm sorry, I know it
- 33:02happens. It happens when you're just go,
- 33:05you're just letting it eat with the with the Nuggets.
- 33:08But breaking news is breaking news.
- 33:10It better be good. Peter Alonzo against the scrappy
- 33:19Arizona Diamondbacks. This is not alarm worthy.
- 33:23To run Homer, adding to his, adding to his case.
- 33:27Anyway, back to what you're saying.
- 33:28No, I'm out. I forgot Brett.
- 33:30Boone, you didn't forget. Stop your Don't lie to me.
- 33:35You didn't forget. Pick right back up with what you
- 33:37were saying. I.
- 33:39Just think that you got you got guys in there that are
- 33:47professional hitters. You got enough names in that, in
- 33:50that clubhouse that know how to go about their business.
- 33:54So I understand needing to have a scapegoat.
- 33:58I understanding, I understand having to fire somebody.
- 34:00But like these guys need to be better at their job.
- 34:05That's plain and simple. That's how it works.
- 34:08They need to be better about their job.
- 34:11Your guy, Justin Havens on Twitter put out a tweet, I
- 34:15believe it was earlier today. The two primary offseason
- 34:18acquisitions for the Texas Rangers, Jock Peterson and Jake
- 34:22Berger, have combined for -2 wins above replacement this
- 34:27year. That's kind of it's kind of what
- 34:31you're dealing with. Yeah, man.
- 34:34Well, I mean, Jock has been. I don't know if it's gotten any
- 34:39better, but I know that the first couple weeks were some of
- 34:42the worst in baseball. I mean, we talked about it.
- 34:45It was a it was an O for what, 40 something streak, no.
- 34:51Yeah, unreal. Yeah, man, Jake Burger, like I I
- 35:03just don't get it. I don't get it.
- 35:06I don't know why this lineup isn't going Corey Seeger, I know
- 35:12he he just went through a little bit of an IL stint.
- 35:14I can't remember if he started this the year on time or if he
- 35:19was a late start. I Marcus Simeon has been bad.
- 35:29I I it. Very bad.
- 35:31I'm wondering if Jonah Heim is, was that just like a World
- 35:37Series year success kind of thing?
- 35:40I mean Adolis Garcia, Like you have names, you have enough
- 35:43names. No disrespect to Wyatt Langford,
- 35:46but if he's your top performer in that lineup, you're not in a
- 35:51good, you're not in a great place.
- 35:53No, you're not in a great place. Leading the team, if I'm not
- 35:57mistaken here, OPS 920, also leading the team in homers.
- 36:04And not to mention they call they, they, they, they recalled
- 36:10Evan Carter today, who I believe is slashing 220-1333 and 416 at
- 36:18AAA, which that's a AAA. So I don't really know if that's
- 36:25going to do anything to really jump start the team, but I'm at
- 36:32a loss of words, I really AM. Yeah, it's not making sense,
- 36:36man, because. It's we're not like you said,
- 36:37we're not talking one or two guys.
- 36:39We're not saying we're not talking like a Corey Seeger
- 36:41having a little bit of a slow start, which he is obviously,
- 36:43But it's it's up and down the entire lineup like these seasons
- 36:48are long. No doubt.
- 36:50There's still time to turn this thing around, no doubt.
- 36:53But you would hope that with these guys that are off to the
- 36:58extremely sluggish starts, that you'd be able to stagger it a
- 37:02little bit, like sort of bail, bail some other guys out.
- 37:05Like if Corey Seeger's just not not feeling at the start of the
- 37:09year, taking needing some extra time to get into the swing of
- 37:12things like Adolis Garcia, help help him out.
- 37:16Yeah. Jonah Heim.
- 37:18I mean, I don't fully know what you're capable of doing in that
- 37:21regard, but like, help a guy out, Marcus Simeon, we know what
- 37:27you're capable of doing in that regard.
- 37:29Help a guy. Out.
- 37:30That's a big fall off. Whatever is happening with
- 37:33Marcus Simeon is is a big fall off.
- 37:36I don't get it man. I.
- 37:37Don't know either, but what what's tough is that like you
- 37:41look at some of these line UPS that you can see that sometimes
- 37:48like an athleticism can can bail you out in a way.
- 37:51Sometimes athleticism can can help you, right, Like grab the
- 37:55Padres, grab the Diamondbacks, grab, grab teams who can who you
- 38:00know, the guardians that can that can get guys in motion,
- 38:03that can hit behind guys that can move guys over that can
- 38:06shoot gaps that it's not so reliant on power.
- 38:12And you look around the Rangers line up and you'll it, it just
- 38:15feels a little slow when on athletic and it seems like it
- 38:18only has to come with pop. That's the only way they're
- 38:21going to get out of this, that it ain't going to do the trick.
- 38:27That ain't going to work. You know what else isn't
- 38:34working? The Baltimore Orioles.
- 38:43I know this isn't the full look. I know this isn't the first time
- 38:45we've talked about the Orioles either.
- 38:47But it's it and keeping in keeping with the theme of the
- 38:51episode, storylines, narratives, things you need to know that are
- 38:57happening right now. What's happening right now is
- 39:00the fact that the Baltimore Orioles, you could you correct
- 39:06me if I'm wrong, Did you, are you, did you kill them off?
- 39:10You killed them off. That's a couple of weeks ago.
- 39:16Well, I mean, I can't say that you're I I I don't think I can
- 39:20call it crazy because I mean both side we I know we just kind
- 39:24of harped on the the Rangers for their offensive woes, but I
- 39:29mean, both sides of the ball right now for the O's are
- 39:33looking a mighty sloppy, mighty sloppy a might coming in today.
- 39:41They have a -55 run differential and you can think the the
- 39:47pitching for that. I'm I people are going to get
- 39:52tired of me talking about it. But this, this was the one of
- 39:55the most like if you looked at all the teams across the league
- 39:58coming into the season and and you had to rank needs of every
- 40:06team. You got to think that the
- 40:10Baltimore Orioles needing starting pitching.
- 40:15Would have been one of the more high, highly ranking, more
- 40:19obvious needs in all of baseball and they didn't get it.
- 40:27And now they're they're reaping the the fruits of their labor,
- 40:34or lack thereof, because they are fruits not looking good.
- 40:38No fruits. The big reason I called them
- 40:45dead a few weeks ago, they don't look like they have fun.
- 40:53I know I've said this before, but they when you watch an
- 40:56Orioles game, they don't have fun.
- 41:04When you when you look at their veterans, it comes down to, in
- 41:08my mind, I think Cedric Mullins is like the name that that comes
- 41:12to mind. Cedric Mullins is a, is a, is a
- 41:18quiet guy. If he's a, he's a just show up
- 41:21and do my job every day. You know, I'm a, I'm a big
- 41:25leaguer kind of guy. There's, there's no, there's no
- 41:28spice, there's no flair, there's no swag.
- 41:31It's it's guys like all of your all of your guys that look
- 41:36exactly the same copy and paste photo ID pictures between Adley
- 41:42and Gunner and Kesten and and and and little holiday and like
- 41:50all of these guys just they look the same.
- 41:52They're blank faces when they hit a double these these home
- 41:58run water bong things have now kind of lost its its luster.
- 42:03Maybe run its course a little bit.
- 42:05It it just doesn't feel fun. It doesn't feel exciting and any
- 42:12time one of those guys does something positive, they're so
- 42:16stoic. There's just not any of those
- 42:22types of players on the team. They're lacking spice.
- 42:29Are you calling the Baltimore Orioles unseasoned?
- 42:35They're. Not boiled chicken.
- 42:37Unseasoned. Boiled.
- 42:38Chicken, unseasoned boiled chicken, that the water ain't
- 42:41even salted and they're just slapping it on the plate saying
- 42:46enjoy. That's it.
- 42:49There's no seasoning. Yikes.
- 42:53Let's look at their their ranking around the league.
- 42:56Talking both sides of the ball here.
- 43:00They're not hitting for average 2/29/26 in baseball.
- 43:05Runs per game, 20th in baseball. Hits per game, 25th in baseball.
- 43:11Walks per game, 27th in baseball.
- 43:15Strikeouts per game 24th in baseball.
- 43:20The it's just not ER team ERA 29th in baseball whip.
- 43:31I didn't even know a staff whip could go this high.
- 43:35They've they're sporting a clip of 15 fifty 128th in baseball
- 43:47strikeouts per nine, which we already knew was going to be the
- 43:50case. Extremely low, 27th in baseball.
- 43:53734 hits per 9. They're giving up.
- 43:57They're averaging 10.32 hits per nine.
- 44:03They're giving up 1.6 homers per nine.
- 44:07That's worst in baseball. Their strike strike out to walk
- 44:12ratios 2O226 in baseball. It none of it's good.
- 44:17They stink, man. They flat out stink.
- 44:31And they're not fun. So that's a, that's a bad combo.
- 44:36See what I'm getting at here? Is there a just off the RIP?
- 44:42Just just a little, just a little, just a little chatter
- 44:46here, just a little brainstorming.
- 44:49Is there a trade that makes this team fun?
- 44:56Is there a trade that makes this team exciting a a la a la Jose
- 45:06Iglesias on the Mets last year? Is there someone that can save
- 45:10the day? Here's the thing, I while I
- 45:13agree with you and I think they need to have more fun, I think
- 45:18they just need to be better. And if, if they if they become
- 45:24more fun in the process, so be it.
- 45:26But you and I both know that when you're winning baseball
- 45:29games, you're you're just more inclined to having more fun,
- 45:33even with an unseasoned bunch of chicken thighs like the Orioles.
- 45:41Just a. Bunch of.
- 45:45Look, I think he's I think he's tired of where he's at right
- 45:51now. He's been he's been in trade,
- 45:54he's been in trade rumors for some time now and this, I think
- 45:59a change in senior would do him good and it would directly
- 46:03address the issue that I just mentioned that was so obvious
- 46:07coming into this season. Go out and trade for Sandy
- 46:13Alcantra. You have no weight in that
- 46:22rotation. None.
- 46:26And Grayson Rodriguez doesn't look like he's coming back
- 46:29anytime soon either. There's a good chance we may not
- 46:32even see Grayson Rodriguez this year.
- 46:34I think the I think the Orioles are being a little coy about
- 46:36that. Yeah.
- 46:39So I don't know, man, you got you got to do something with
- 46:43this window. If you're the Orioles, you
- 46:45cannot let another year pass. And I'm not saying that this is
- 46:49their year, but it you got to take a you got to make a go at
- 46:52it. You got to make a go at it and
- 46:53you got to do something because what you're doing right now is
- 46:55not working. I mean, Nate here has already
- 46:57written you off. Nate's already.
- 46:59Nate's already killed you off Baltimore Orioles, bye.
- 47:04Are you going to let that be the lasting image?
- 47:07Orioles Nate giving you the farewell into the sunset on the
- 47:112025 season. It wasn't even May yet when I
- 47:15did. That, that's up to you.
- 47:17Baltimore Orioles, that's up to you.
- 47:24Some items here, miscellaneous like items around the league.
- 47:28Tristan Cost is out for the year after suffering that.
- 47:33Was tough to see. Yeah, yeah, you hate to see it
- 47:36after suffering A ruptured tendon, patellar tendon.
- 47:42You knew right away it wasn't good.
- 47:44And then? It wasn't a graceful moment.
- 47:48That's a big. Human being.
- 47:49Yeah, and I just, I wasn't sure if it was like one of those.
- 47:55I'm a little embarrassed by how I went down kind of things.
- 47:59And then all the reports came out and I was like, oh, it's
- 48:02pretty serious. Tough man is what's the what's
- 48:07the, what's the situation on his control?
- 48:10He's. Well, I still got control left
- 48:15the the Red Sox weren't even. They were.
- 48:20They were shopping. That's what I'm saying.
- 48:21They were hoping that this wasn't even going to be an issue
- 48:24or something They'd have to, they'd have to figure out or
- 48:27they'd have to, you know, try to navigate.
- 48:30But I don't like, I don't know what you do with him now, dude,
- 48:34I I don't know what you do because last year he missed, he
- 48:37missed a good chunk of time. Now he's missing the majority.
- 48:40Well, the rest of this year, but the majority of this year, not
- 48:48good, man. He's free agent 2029.
- 48:52Always got a lot of control left.
- 48:58It's only 25. Woof.
- 49:04And the biggest? What's the situation look like
- 49:07as far as replacement? I was going to say.
- 49:09Where's that line up shift to? It's not great.
- 49:11You, I mean, you're, you're moving to a full blown platoon
- 49:15situation unless you go out and get somebody, which I I doubt
- 49:18that that's part of the plan. They're just going to plug and
- 49:22play with Roma Gonzalez and they called up Abraham Toro.
- 49:29So I, I don't know man, the, the position was already weak, even
- 49:36with Costa's in the lineup, just with the way he had started the
- 49:39year. So now that you got to switch to
- 49:41a full blown platoon situation, not a good place to be, But I,
- 49:48I'm confident that the rest of that lineup can hold it down
- 49:51offensively. They they year in and year out,
- 49:54they always do. I mean one of the better
- 49:56offenses in the league every single season.
- 50:00So I I think they'll be all right in the long term and like
- 50:11I don't think this puts that big of a dent into their post season
- 50:16hopes again, especially with the state of the American League
- 50:19right now. But I just, you know, like you
- 50:26said with the with the contract and, and the time he's got left
- 50:31and the fact that you combine that with the fact that they
- 50:33were trying to shop like shopping him heavily this
- 50:36offseason, it's just a it's a really uncomfortable situation,
- 50:41really uncomfortable. So I don't, I, I just don't
- 50:44know. I don't know what's what's to
- 50:47come of it, but. I'm looking around the league
- 50:51for potential trade replacements.
- 50:58I'm just curious. I, I think they're going to
- 51:01stick internally. I I genuinely don't think
- 51:03they're. Going to the rest, getting
- 51:04ready. Yeah, unless you get to the
- 51:09deadline and you're it, it makes sense.
- 51:13But as of right now, I think they're just going to figure it
- 51:16out with what they have, which is nothing because we don't have
- 51:19any like legitimate first baseman.
- 51:22It's just infielders that can slot in at first for a couple
- 51:25games a week. That's why I feel like a move
- 51:28has to be made. You would think you would think
- 51:32that would make sense. But do I think they're going to
- 51:35do it? No.
- 51:41Jordan Alvarez. Alvarez sent to the IL with
- 51:45right hand inflammation, AKA one of the more obvious ghost stints
- 51:58that we've seen in recent memory.
- 52:00Yeah. What was he called?
- 52:02What was it officially? Right hand inflammation.
- 52:06Yeah, that's. A There's actually I saw a beat
- 52:11writer to today as actually just one who put right hand
- 52:16inflammation in air quotes or quotation marks soon to deleted
- 52:22the tweet like as soon as I clicked it.
- 52:24But yeah, it it's I think it's believed around the club that
- 52:31this was needed for performance, performance's sake.
- 52:36Not a great start to the year -.4 WAR to start the year only
- 52:43three homers. Was hitting 210.
- 52:46Was slashing 3 O 634646 with I believe an OPS plus eyes don't
- 52:55fail me now of 86. What's your what's your worry
- 53:03meter on on him for the year? Very low.
- 53:09Me too. I think this will do him some
- 53:11good. I'm out like a I'm out like a
- 53:133-4 worried. Yeah, I'd go, I'd go 3.
- 53:19Like it's not maybe even 2. Plenty of time, Plenty of time.
- 53:27This isn't, I'm not even putting Jordan Alvarez and Tristan
- 53:31Costas in the same conversation, but for that very reason, it
- 53:36further, further validates my point.
- 53:38We know what Jordan Alvarez is. We know who he is.
- 53:41We know his profile, correct? This isn't a, this isn't a thing
- 53:46where you got to guess, you know what he's, you know what he's
- 53:48going to do. And that, like I said, I think
- 53:50this break will do him some good.
- 53:52Show to Imanaga. Also sent to the IL with the
- 53:56hamstring strain. I hate to see that.
- 54:00Was off to a off to a decent start, three and two on the
- 54:04year. War of 11, Sub 3 ERA, 282 cross,
- 54:09eight games, 34 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1097.
- 54:15But you just hope for the Cubs sake, with the way they've been
- 54:17playing that they can. They can hold it down for
- 54:20however long he's out. And Speaking of IL, Jackson
- 54:25Merrill was activated today from his stint on the IL Don't
- 54:32believe he got in tonight because of the rain.
- 54:35In New York, they're. Trying to avoid putting any
- 54:38undue stress or anything on on that, on that situation.
- 54:44So you have to imagine when he gets it back in that lineup,
- 54:48that's going to serve as a huge boost of confidence, a a real,
- 54:53real spark, real jolt for that team.
- 54:55Cuz I tell you what man, before he went down.
- 55:01Yeah. Man was on a mission sitting 378
- 55:04three jacks slashing, 4 slashing 415-676-1090 with an OPS plus
- 55:13A200. Sure, small sample size I know,
- 55:16but still I mean. Still nice.
- 55:18What's nice is that you can come back and that's what that's
- 55:21what's on there. You know what I mean?
- 55:23Like I feel like it's a whole different beast.
- 55:25For example, like you were Don where he's he's having to come
- 55:29back and he's seeing those rough numbers.
- 55:31He's seeing what he has to what hole he's got to dig out of, you
- 55:35know, versus, hey, this is where I left off from and it's a good
- 55:40head start. So excited to see what what he
- 55:43can do. Man, kids, kids.
- 55:46Different, different. D Backs, City connects.
- 55:56I like them. So here's the deal elephant in
- 56:00the room here. This might be one of the first
- 56:02leaks we've seen or final products I should say, that
- 56:07actually didn't align with the leak because we talked about the
- 56:11leak when it came out and if you recall it had the just the
- 56:14classic D backs word mark on it, but they went they they doubled
- 56:18down on the serpientes theme. I didn't mind the first
- 56:24serpientes. I didn't either.
- 56:27I didn't either. I liked it.
- 56:29I liked the cream. It's it's very college baseball.
- 56:31I liked it a lot, but this is they.
- 56:37Hey, look, man, I had this thought when I was looking at it
- 56:40earlier when they when the official release came out.
- 56:43I'm like, you know, for as as negative as we can be on some of
- 56:47these that come out, I mean for good reason, some of these are
- 56:50just they they didn't even bother to try.
- 56:53But this is a this is a clean looking jersey.
- 56:55This this can go down as one of the best that Nike did.
- 56:59And then, you know, I, I think full credit below needs to be
- 57:04given to really just the, the color, the color scheme.
- 57:07I mean, that's, that's, that's an undefeated combo, man.
- 57:11Let's let's, let's just all be honest here.
- 57:13I, I, I don't think anyone has ever been a fan of the dark red
- 57:18that the diamonds Diamondbacks switched to.
- 57:21It's, it's just, it's never hit the right way.
- 57:24And now that the black is in the mix more, I think it's helped
- 57:28that red. But the best parts have been the
- 57:32purple in the teal. Without a doubt, without a
- 57:36doubt. That's the meat in the sandwich.
- 57:38That's that's everything. It's like I.
- 57:45You know, if we're talking like their current color scheme with
- 57:48the red and the sand and the teal, they, if you recall, they
- 57:53sort of stepped away from the the, the sand color little bit
- 57:57and updated their current logo with the that electric teal
- 58:03color or whatever. Teal was out for a while.
- 58:07Yeah, you know, Yeah. But then they they updated their
- 58:12main logo with they they said, now let's go back to the teal, a
- 58:14little bit of a nod to the to the 90s, you know, and I think
- 58:20they're inching closer and closer to making this a more
- 58:23more of a mainstay combo and, and for good reason.
- 58:27I mean, this is clean. And that's hat, dude, that hat.
- 58:31That hat is unreal. Look, I, I wonder if the purple
- 58:37was maybe an issue with the Rockies and maybe that was a
- 58:42part of the the switch up, but the Rockies barely exist right
- 58:46now. So like, why not, let's just let
- 58:49the purple be the Diamondbacks. Maybe the Rockies need to just
- 58:52take on a new color way. That's their punishment for
- 58:56being so bad. You have to change your colors.
- 58:59You have to completely rebrand because whatever you're doing
- 59:02ain't working. That's, I mean, it's, it's a
- 59:05good thought. It's a good thought.
- 59:09Speaking of the NLOS, Freddie Freeman final note here. 350th
- 59:14Homer of his career tonight. Good for Freddie, man.
- 59:21Good for Freddie. Where does that put him on the
- 59:23all time list? I'm going to.
- 59:28Say, don't even act like you have an educated guess right
- 59:32now. I'm.
- 59:33Going to say 8080 third. 83rd What did I say, 350?
- 59:46Yeah, he's probably way. He's probably in the hundreds.
- 59:51Hey, good for Freddie. He just cracked the top 100,
- 59:56tied for tied for 100th on the all time list with Chilly Davis.
- 1:00:02All right, 350. That's a name that doesn't get
- 1:00:05enough respect. By the way, Chilly Davis, good
- 1:00:09head coach. Some names that he'll be passing
- 1:00:11soon. Dick Allen, Ellis Burks, Ryan
- 1:00:14Braun, Tori Hunter, Lee May, Luis Gonzalez, Greg Von, Joe
- 1:00:21Ivato, Carlos Leo Gibera. Still just. 35 got plenty of
- 1:00:31time. Love that for.
- 1:00:35Freddie, good for Freddie, good for Freddie.
- 1:00:37Bad call, by the way. Not a good, not a good call.
- 1:00:40We were looking for call of the week.
- 1:00:42I don't even think 350 was brought up in the call, which is
- 1:00:45disappointing. Yeah, well, I mean. 7th of the
- 1:00:49year is what I believe I heard. Yeah, but that's one of those
- 1:00:53things that kind of unless you're really doing your due
- 1:00:55diligence, which let's be honest, we're all human.
- 1:00:57Sometimes we we skip over some things like this.
- 1:01:00Those are the things that get brought up in your ear, like in
- 1:01:04your in your earpiece and then eat or two later and then you
- 1:01:08got to go back, revisit. Say, by the way, that was it.
- 1:01:11Freddie Freeman's 350th home run, placing him in the top 100
- 1:01:16of the all time Homer list. That's how that goes.
- 1:01:22Be better. That's all I got.
- 1:01:29I'm out of stuff. That's all I got.
- 1:01:34See you Thursday. Don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:01:38We love y'all and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:01:40baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
