- 0:03Speaker 1: Hike and everybody. I'm Dan Horde and thanks for downloading
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Bengals Booth podcast. The Show Me the Money edition
- 0:11Speaker 1: coming up. My broadcast partner Dave Lapham joins me to
- 0:13Speaker 1: discuss the Bengals free agent signing so far and how
- 0:18Speaker 1: they might impact the Bengals approach to the NFL Draft
- 0:21Speaker 1: next month. We'll hear from tight end Tyler Eifert, who
- 0:25Speaker 1: is hoping this is the year he finally catches a
- 0:28Speaker 1: break when it comes to avoiding injuries. And I'll have
- 0:31Speaker 1: a lengthy conversation with another Bengals tight end, c j
- 0:35Speaker 1: U Sama, who, if reports are accurate, is going to
- 0:39Speaker 1: go from making about seven hundred thousand dollars last year
- 0:42Speaker 1: to more than seven million dollars this year. All of
- 0:47Speaker 1: that is straight ahead. But first, here's a quick reminder
- 0:49Speaker 1: that you can have the latest edition of this podcast
- 0:52Speaker 1: delivered right to your phone, tablet, or computer by subscribing
- 0:56Speaker 1: on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or been. It's the greatest
- 1:01Speaker 1: invention since beef brisket. I had some smokey, greasy and
- 1:10Speaker 1: super tender brisket recently that was absolutely mouthwatering. I'm sure
- 1:15Speaker 1: it was horribly unhealthy and Calorie Leyden. But you know what,
- 1:19Speaker 1: so what time to talk football? On Monday, the Bengals
- 1:24Speaker 1: parted ways with linebacker von Tz Berfect. On Tuesday, Tes
- 1:29Speaker 1: signed with the Oakland Raiders, where he'll be reunited with
- 1:32Speaker 1: former Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Gunther. You know who wasn't
- 1:37Speaker 1: surprised my broadcast partner Dave Lapham before the Berfect news
- 1:41Speaker 1: broke on Tuesday. We sat down for this podcast episode
- 1:45Speaker 1: and lap predicted it. His comments about Berfect come about
- 1:49Speaker 1: halfway into our twenty five minute conversation. Lap Let's start
- 1:54Speaker 1: by talking about the free agent that seemed to get
- 1:57Speaker 1: the most response from Bengals fans, and that is right
- 2:00Speaker 1: tackle Bobby Hart. The Bengals decision to bring him back
- 2:04Speaker 1: was not greeted with haraz to say the least. Explain
- 2:07Speaker 1: why you think the Bengals elected to bring Bobby back
- 2:11Speaker 1: with a three year, sixteen point one five million dollar deal. Yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 1: that sounds a lot different than the three year, twenty
- 2:16Speaker 1: one million dollars deal that everybody was going nuts about,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you know, at seven million dollars a year, But that's
- 2:21Speaker 1: I mean five plus million years is the cost of
- 2:24Speaker 1: doing business for what you would consider to be a
- 2:27Speaker 1: starting you know, right tackle. The thing about Bobby Hart
- 2:32Speaker 1: that I appreciate out of his play is his aggressive style.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You know, let's let's compare a Bobby Hart. The sturgical
- 2:42Speaker 1: way he Bobby Hart plays was a sense of urgency.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Sturgical way. He had to light a cherry bomb under
- 2:47Speaker 1: his butt to get him to do anything. In terms
- 2:49Speaker 1: of a sense of urgency, there was none. So, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: a guy that was maybe like a little less ability.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But I mean, you know, both are very good athletes
- 2:59Speaker 1: for that position. I mean, Bobby's got good feet. Bobby
- 3:02Speaker 1: has good feet. Bobby's a physical guy and he plays
- 3:05Speaker 1: with He's a high energy player. The thing that uh,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, the coach Turner is going to have to
- 3:10Speaker 1: do is is curbed the penalty issue. You know, the
- 3:14Speaker 1: false start and a lot of those false starts, you
- 3:17Speaker 1: remember quite a few of them. Bobby's trying to get
- 3:19Speaker 1: that little jump on the on the you know, the
- 3:21Speaker 1: wide edge rush guy. He's just trying to you know,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and Bobby's quick enough. Bobby's feet are good enough. He
- 3:25Speaker 1: doesn't have to try to cheat it, you know, he
- 3:27Speaker 1: just just play, just play football, play with your technique
- 3:31Speaker 1: and um that that's correctable. A lot of those a
- 3:34Speaker 1: lot of those errors are correctable. You know. The holding
- 3:37Speaker 1: penalties obviously, Uh, you know, that's that's just being a
- 3:40Speaker 1: little sloppy with your hands. I think when when you
- 3:43Speaker 1: look at tape of him and how he approaches the
- 3:47Speaker 1: game on a snap by snap basis, at the line
- 3:49Speaker 1: of scrimmage, he's a high evert guy, you know. And
- 3:52Speaker 1: I mean the penalties obviously or what have have the
- 3:55Speaker 1: fans going nuts? You know, when you have double digit
- 3:58Speaker 1: holding penalties and double digit offside penalties, that's killing your
- 4:02Speaker 1: football team. You just can't have, you know, one person
- 4:05Speaker 1: being responsible for so many potentially drive stopping you know,
- 4:09Speaker 1: plays on a negative basis like that. But I think
- 4:13Speaker 1: you know, they're in a situation where two high draft
- 4:17Speaker 1: picks didn't pan out. They pick up Bobby Hart and
- 4:20Speaker 1: they make a trade, you know, for with Buffalo for
- 4:23Speaker 1: Cordy Glenn. They just don't want to go backwards. The
- 4:26Speaker 1: one thing you got to make sure if you have
- 4:28Speaker 1: to have somebody, you just don't want to go backwards.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So if you don't get him signed, where are you?
- 4:33Speaker 1: You know? And and a lot of these guys that
- 4:36Speaker 1: are making the amount of money that not just the
- 4:40Speaker 1: tackles are making in free agency is just mind boggling
- 4:43Speaker 1: to me. But you know, like c J. Mosley, the
- 4:45Speaker 1: money he's making, the money some of these guys are making,
- 4:47Speaker 1: it's just unbelievable that first week, you know, spending spree
- 4:51Speaker 1: that these teams go on. But I don't know, I
- 4:55Speaker 1: look at I look at Brown getting the big deal
- 4:57Speaker 1: that he got u Antonio, not Preston or did you
- 5:03Speaker 1: mean Preston? No? No, I mean the left tackle for
- 5:06Speaker 1: the Patriots, um making making all the money that he made.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean, it's like, are you kidding me? You know,
- 5:15Speaker 1: look look at what happened to the prior left tackle
- 5:17Speaker 1: from the New England Patriots. He was the highest paid
- 5:19Speaker 1: left tackle. He goes to the Giants and basically, uh
- 5:24Speaker 1: that that fan bases if we think Bobby Hart was attacked.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I mean, man, they paid him a fortune and he
- 5:32Speaker 1: didn't play well. Hasn't played well. I'm telling the Patriot
- 5:35Speaker 1: organization when he leaves Tom Brady with the quick release
- 5:39Speaker 1: and all the game planning and scheming that they do,
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's a different day. It's a different day. And I
- 5:43Speaker 1: think some of these Uh, free agent tackles get so
- 5:47Speaker 1: much money that to me, it's crazy. We'll see. I mean,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I think Coach Turner likes the athleticism of Bobby Hart
- 5:57Speaker 1: and likes his mindset, and I think he thinks football
- 6:01Speaker 1: is important to Bobby Hart. And Bobby Hart played well
- 6:03Speaker 1: for Jimbo Fisher, you know at Florida State, and Coach
- 6:08Speaker 1: Turner and coach Fisher have a history and they believe
- 6:11Speaker 1: in each other and their evaluational players, and I think
- 6:14Speaker 1: that was a big part of it. Here's my thinking
- 6:16Speaker 1: on Bobby Hart for starters. I really like him personally.
- 6:19Speaker 1: He was one of the best, extremely smart. He was
- 6:22Speaker 1: one of the best fun facts interviews that I got
- 6:25Speaker 1: to do last year. So on a personal level, I
- 6:28Speaker 1: like him. Secondly, you've got Cordy glenback at tackle, but
- 6:32Speaker 1: as you mentioned, no oh boy, no Fisher, they're not
- 6:36Speaker 1: coming back. Andrey Smith they picked up late last year,
- 6:39Speaker 1: is not coming back. So you've got one tackle on
- 6:41Speaker 1: your roster. You might as well bring back a guy
- 6:44Speaker 1: who started every game last year. I guess my only
- 6:47Speaker 1: question would be, were they bidding against themselves? Could they
- 6:50Speaker 1: have saved a little money and bringing back a guy
- 6:52Speaker 1: that did not get great reviews from Pro Football Focus
- 6:56Speaker 1: and others. So I wonder a little bit about that.
- 6:58Speaker 1: And I also wonder does this now mean they are
- 7:01Speaker 1: not going to consider a tackle with the eleventh pick
- 7:03Speaker 1: in the draft. I don't know the answers to those questions.
- 7:06Speaker 1: In my mind, Dan, I'm not surely consider a tackle
- 7:09Speaker 1: with the eleventh pick in the draft. I don't think
- 7:11Speaker 1: there's a tackle munuos A Biselli. There's not a guy
- 7:15Speaker 1: like that. But they will take a tackle high. They'll
- 7:18Speaker 1: take a tackle in the air. Top three picks, maybe
- 7:21Speaker 1: even the second round pick. I could see them going there.
- 7:24Speaker 1: With the eleventh pick, they might, but I'm not positive
- 7:27Speaker 1: about that. You know, as I look at the what
- 7:31Speaker 1: people are saying and look at a little bit of
- 7:33Speaker 1: how how they play and what they did at combine workouts,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and I mean there are some, there are good ones,
- 7:39Speaker 1: but and if you have a huge need, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 1: all right, well, I'm not sure the values there at eleven,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but it's there at fifteen. Heck, pull the trigger. But
- 7:48Speaker 1: if you don't have one rated in the top half
- 7:50Speaker 1: of the you know, if you don't have one rate
- 7:51Speaker 1: in the top sixteen in the draft, I'm not sure
- 7:54Speaker 1: you reach at eleven necessarily, or maybe you say, you
- 7:58Speaker 1: know what, I know, there's a lot of really good
- 8:00Speaker 1: defensive lineman. There's a lot of good edge rushers. Uh.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Quentin Williams is unbelievable to watch. The kid from Alabama,
- 8:06Speaker 1: in my mind is the best defensive lineman you know
- 8:09Speaker 1: that they could anybody could take. He'd make a huge
- 8:12Speaker 1: impact inside. But I don't think he'll be there. But
- 8:15Speaker 1: I mean, you know, Bosa, A lot of these guys
- 8:17Speaker 1: that that you talk about, you know, Bosa Allen, Uh,
- 8:21Speaker 1: will those will those kind of guys be there at
- 8:23Speaker 1: eleven Gary, I don't think any of those guys will
- 8:26Speaker 1: be there at eleven. Sweat might be you know, do
- 8:29Speaker 1: you go a sweat out of Mississippi State? You know,
- 8:32Speaker 1: to me, maybe trade down to get into the third round.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Pick now you get twelve picks, but it's a higher pick.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I mean a lot of the Bengals picks are you know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: on the hundreds in the sixth round. Allow in the
- 8:43Speaker 1: sixth round, it'll be their round, So you know, to
- 8:47Speaker 1: get to get to get a little bit of capital
- 8:49Speaker 1: in the in the first three rounds potentially depending on
- 8:52Speaker 1: how far you trade down, that might make some sense.
- 8:55Speaker 1: But because if you have if you have multiple multiple needs,
- 8:58Speaker 1: but if you feel like honestly, when I look at
- 9:01Speaker 1: Bobby Hart last year, last year's performances, Corty Glenn, you
- 9:05Speaker 1: paid eleven million bucks too. If I paid Bobby Hard
- 9:08Speaker 1: five million last year, I would have been happy with it,
- 9:10Speaker 1: because Corty Glenn didn't give me eleven million dollars I
- 9:12Speaker 1: didn't get eleven million dollars performance out of Corty Glenn.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Corty Glenn has to play better. Corty Glenn has to
- 9:18Speaker 1: give himself in better shape, He has to be more committed.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You know, he has to play better. Period. So you're right,
- 9:27Speaker 1: you have to have somebody. You have one. You have
- 9:29Speaker 1: one tackle in your roster if you don't resign Bobby Hard.
- 9:32Speaker 1: So again, you definitely with what Cleveland's doing. You don't
- 9:36Speaker 1: want to go backwards anywhere. You try not to go backwards.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Look at what's happened to Baltimore. Baltimore lost Sugs. They're
- 9:43Speaker 1: you know, this franchise is leading pass Rutcher, C J. Moseley,
- 9:46Speaker 1: the lost Wettle. But they get another safety, but they
- 9:49Speaker 1: three Pro Bowl guys. They lose out of their defense. Steelers,
- 9:52Speaker 1: Pro Bowl running back, Pro Bowl receiver. You know, these
- 9:55Speaker 1: two teams are losing players. Baltimore is gaining some, Pittsburgh
- 10:00Speaker 1: not there. So you don't want to go backwards. Cleveland
- 10:02Speaker 1: is all chips, are all in. They're going for it,
- 10:05Speaker 1: so you definitely make sure you're not going backwards like
- 10:09Speaker 1: the rest of the division has been with some of
- 10:11Speaker 1: the players that they're losing at these other franchises. And
- 10:15Speaker 1: Worth pointing out that the Bobby Heart deal, it's a
- 10:18Speaker 1: three year deal for sixteen million plus, but essentially the
- 10:20Speaker 1: Bengals could get out after one things did not go well.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's that's Dan why I think there's no way they
- 10:28Speaker 1: don't draft one, maybe two. But they drafted two with
- 10:33Speaker 1: oh boy he and Fisher and went over. I mean
- 10:36Speaker 1: they basically said, all right, we're gonna double down because
- 10:39Speaker 1: we don't want to just rely on one guy, and
- 10:41Speaker 1: they went over. So they're gonna have to double down again,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and I think they will. I think they'll address that
- 10:47Speaker 1: offensive tackle position very high, and then again a little
- 10:50Speaker 1: bit later in the draft. Staying chronological, the next guy
- 10:54Speaker 1: that's signed on the bottom line from the in house
- 10:56Speaker 1: free agents. Preston Brown, middle linebacker, comes back another three
- 11:00Speaker 1: year deal for sixteen and a half milk. Yeah, and
- 11:04Speaker 1: you really don't know, uh what Preston Brown could have
- 11:07Speaker 1: given you. You know, he get hurt so early, but um,
- 11:11Speaker 1: you know, is he a guy that that can be
- 11:14Speaker 1: isolated in coverage? I mean, is he a three down linebacker?
- 11:18Speaker 1: I think it's a stretch to say that at his size.
- 11:21Speaker 1: You know, he's a three down linebacker. I think he
- 11:24Speaker 1: can play, um, you know, nickel in a pinch, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: it's he's not He's not a guy that you have
- 11:29Speaker 1: out there in your nickel coverages. But I do think
- 11:34Speaker 1: it turned another guy that from a locker room standpoint great.
- 11:38Speaker 1: You know, he's tremendous in the locker room, great leader,
- 11:41Speaker 1: local kid. Um, there's a lot of reasons to like him.
- 11:45Speaker 1: But you know, the curse of the injuries last year,
- 11:49Speaker 1: it even affected Preston Brown. It hadn't been hurt in
- 11:51Speaker 1: his entire pro career, hadn't missed a snap. Well, very
- 11:55Speaker 1: early on, he rolls that ankle and and he's a
- 11:57Speaker 1: shell of himself. Um. I think he's committed though, Tom
- 12:02Speaker 1: playing under two hundred fifty pounds, which I think is
- 12:05Speaker 1: necessary in today's NFL, and I think you'd still in
- 12:09Speaker 1: this division. In the AC North, teams are still going
- 12:12Speaker 1: to try to pound the ball on you. Baltimore is
- 12:14Speaker 1: gonna try to run it right down to your throat.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I mean, just playing Baltimore twice a year, you're gonna
- 12:18Speaker 1: have to have a linebacker you can handle the running
- 12:20Speaker 1: game a little bit. Pittsburgh's still gonna you know, I mean,
- 12:23Speaker 1: they'll they'll run it, particularly losing Antonio Brown, but they're
- 12:28Speaker 1: a past heavy football team with Ben Roethlisberger obviously, and
- 12:33Speaker 1: I think Cleveland will try to be balanced. But I
- 12:37Speaker 1: do think the ASC North traditionally is a very physical division.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I don't think that's going to change. And with the
- 12:44Speaker 1: departure of Vontes Perfect, it's good to have a guy
- 12:47Speaker 1: back who's knows the system, or at least knows the
- 12:51Speaker 1: locker room, knows the town, has some experience and has
- 12:53Speaker 1: a proven track record in the NFL. And I do
- 12:56Speaker 1: think with Vontes Berfect, everybody, all of his teammates have
- 13:01Speaker 1: always said it's like having a coach in the huddle
- 13:04Speaker 1: and that that intangible part of not the tangible part
- 13:10Speaker 1: being the physicality and all that, and of Vontes when
- 13:13Speaker 1: he was right mentally and physically is a factor. The
- 13:18Speaker 1: other part is man the dude. He knew every nuance
- 13:20Speaker 1: of the defense. He knew what offenses were trying to
- 13:22Speaker 1: do to attack his defense. And Preston Brown has that
- 13:26Speaker 1: kind of that kind of intelligence, that kind of football
- 13:29Speaker 1: IQ about him, So I think I think that's going
- 13:32Speaker 1: to be a help in the huddle as well. I
- 13:35Speaker 1: think Vontes lines up somewhere else this year, probably goes
- 13:38Speaker 1: to Oakland on a discount. It probably gets reunited with
- 13:42Speaker 1: poly Gunther. Wouldn't shock me if that's maybe the first
- 13:46Speaker 1: place that contacts him and to see what he's got left.
- 13:49Speaker 1: We talked about it during the course of the season.
- 13:51Speaker 1: In my mind, the Vontes birth that was out there
- 13:55Speaker 1: the last couple of years for the Bengals was number one,
- 14:00Speaker 1: not afraid, but didn't want to get hurt and didn't
- 14:02Speaker 1: want to get fine. So, you know, I think I
- 14:07Speaker 1: think his physical um assets had diminished and he was playing,
- 14:12Speaker 1: you know, trying to avoid those kind of things, and
- 14:15Speaker 1: it just affected his play just he obviously didn't have
- 14:17Speaker 1: the type of impact that he had. I mean when
- 14:20Speaker 1: he was right Man twenty thirteen. That dude, that dude
- 14:24Speaker 1: was as good as I've seen. And in always I'll
- 14:28Speaker 1: always say that from an understanding of the game of
- 14:31Speaker 1: football and being able to decipher, you know, anything quickly,
- 14:35Speaker 1: he's as good as I've seen, right right from the
- 14:38Speaker 1: very beginning. You know, I'll never forget in the first
- 14:40Speaker 1: nine on seven when he was an undrafted free agent
- 14:43Speaker 1: that they got for a thousand bucks. I mean, that's
- 14:46Speaker 1: I think of that. A thousand bucks just pay his
- 14:49Speaker 1: travel expenses to get out here. And that first nine
- 14:51Speaker 1: on seven. Mike Zimmer is a defensive coordina and Vantes's
- 14:54Speaker 1: birth is about made every tackle. And I remember coach
- 14:58Speaker 1: jogging buy and I said, did I see what I
- 15:00Speaker 1: just think I saw? I mean, what's up? He's that's
- 15:02Speaker 1: the best. That's as good as linebacker play as I've seen.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I mean, right right from Jump Street, he was like whoa,
- 15:08Speaker 1: he just saw things before they happened. He was extremely,
- 15:11Speaker 1: extremely bright in terms of his football IQ let's move
- 15:15Speaker 1: to tight end. Of the three veteran free agent tight ends,
- 15:19Speaker 1: one isn't coming back Tyler Crofts sounded the Buffalo Bills,
- 15:21Speaker 1: but the other two are back. C j Uzama strikes
- 15:24Speaker 1: at Rich three years, eighteen million bucks. Tyler Effort. Tyler
- 15:28Speaker 1: Eiffort back on another one year, four million dollars deal
- 15:32Speaker 1: from what we've read, with the opportunity to make more
- 15:35Speaker 1: if he can stay healthy. Yeah, and uh boy, Tyler Eiffort,
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know your heart, your heart goes out to him.
- 15:41Speaker 1: It's just it's been, you know, one tragic injury after another.
- 15:48Speaker 1: You look at his his elbow, his back, his knee,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I mean, you know, his ankle is whatever, it's it's
- 15:55Speaker 1: it's incredible what he's, what he's dealt with. And I
- 15:58Speaker 1: do think that to come back and go through rehab
- 16:04Speaker 1: as many times he has as successful as he has,
- 16:07Speaker 1: that he's gonna be so tough minded to do that.
- 16:09Speaker 1: And you have to have a real love for the
- 16:11Speaker 1: game obviously, and he just he's owed a season of
- 16:16Speaker 1: just let him physically get through it and see what
- 16:18Speaker 1: kind of what kind of numbers he can put up,
- 16:21Speaker 1: because as you know, we talked about during the course
- 16:24Speaker 1: of the year last year three and one with him
- 16:27Speaker 1: as a starter, you know, in that lineup, and whenever
- 16:30Speaker 1: he was on the field, the opposition never played based defense.
- 16:34Speaker 1: They want Nickel every single snap. So now you know
- 16:39Speaker 1: you can run the football, you still want to throw
- 16:42Speaker 1: it with him. He's still a matchup nightmare even for
- 16:45Speaker 1: Nickel defenses, but you can tighten him back down in
- 16:48Speaker 1: the formation or run the ball at him a little
- 16:49Speaker 1: because they get smaller people out on the football field.
- 16:52Speaker 1: So you're always looking for a situation when you're a
- 16:54Speaker 1: defensor or an offensive coordinator where you're punching and the
- 16:57Speaker 1: opponent has to CounterPunch you. They're counterpunching, they're und Efer
- 17:03Speaker 1: was the hammer, and they were counterpunching with him. So
- 17:06Speaker 1: when you have a weapon like that, that's huge. They're
- 17:09Speaker 1: averaging over thirty points a game and like three hundred
- 17:12Speaker 1: seventy three and eighty yards a game and just looking
- 17:15Speaker 1: really phenomenal offensively, and when he went down it was
- 17:19Speaker 1: the start of the big dip in the roller coast
- 17:22Speaker 1: and then a bunch of other injuries of course, But
- 17:24Speaker 1: and then you know, you gotta love Cjzama. He's the
- 17:28Speaker 1: ultimate team guy. I don't think you'll find one teammate
- 17:32Speaker 1: and that locker room doesn't love that guy. He's one
- 17:35Speaker 1: of the one of those personalities that you know, he
- 17:38Speaker 1: just gets along with everybody. He's a hard worker. I think, um,
- 17:43Speaker 1: he elevated himself and everybody's eyes in that locker room
- 17:46Speaker 1: playing through the injury through his shoulder that he played through.
- 17:49Speaker 1: He had to take an entire month off and do
- 17:51Speaker 1: nothing to let it heal. He played with a significant injury,
- 17:54Speaker 1: and in the position that he plays, you know, we're
- 17:57Speaker 1: they're asking him to block quite a bit as well
- 17:59Speaker 1: as jest of football. Yeah, playing hurt, that sucks. That's
- 18:03Speaker 1: tough to do. So I think he really really won
- 18:07Speaker 1: over a ton of teammates and then as a result
- 18:10Speaker 1: of it, cut himself a nice contract as well. We'll
- 18:12Speaker 1: have an in depth conversation with c. J Uzama coming
- 18:14Speaker 1: up a little bit later on this edition of the podcast.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Let's move to a couple of guys that the Bengals
- 18:19Speaker 1: signed his free agents from other teams, Beginning with offensive
- 18:23Speaker 1: lineman John Miller. Looks like he'll compete for the starting
- 18:26Speaker 1: position at right guard, where he played for the Buffalo Bills.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Based on his Pro Football Focus ratings, he would have
- 18:33Speaker 1: been the highest rated offensive lineman on the Bengals last year.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Based on his play for Buffalo three years, sixteen point
- 18:40Speaker 1: five Mills, So not a crazy contract in terms of
- 18:44Speaker 1: how much the Bengals are paying him. Kind of fits
- 18:46Speaker 1: what they try to do in free agency. See if
- 18:49Speaker 1: there's a guy that's played pretty well that maybe can
- 18:52Speaker 1: elevate his play a little bit, beat a little bit
- 18:54Speaker 1: and try to get him at a reasonable figure. Yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 1: and I think he's plug and play at the right
- 18:58Speaker 1: guard position. Came on a new slee out of Louisville,
- 19:00Speaker 1: is a third round pick and has played, you know,
- 19:03Speaker 1: played to that. I mean, he's a starter. And you
- 19:05Speaker 1: look at how well Buffalo ran the football, and granted,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you know, Shady McCoy, you know, get some pretty good talent,
- 19:10Speaker 1: but Joe Mixon is gonna like having Miller out there,
- 19:13Speaker 1: you know, running the football, blocking for him up front
- 19:18Speaker 1: the offensive line. Billy Price, first round pick, John Millar,
- 19:23Speaker 1: the third round pick. They just they paid their right
- 19:25Speaker 1: guard and right tackle about the same amount of money,
- 19:27Speaker 1: about five million bucks a year in free agency. One
- 19:29Speaker 1: of their own, they captain, one that they went and
- 19:31Speaker 1: got from somebody else. So now it's going to be interesting.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I think Redmond is going to go into the derby
- 19:37Speaker 1: for the left guard position, and I think I think
- 19:40Speaker 1: i'd like to see Redman get up about three and
- 19:42Speaker 1: a quarter. He got down to three oh five. He
- 19:45Speaker 1: was like, you know, he was huge. He was three
- 19:47Speaker 1: sixty five at one time and melted down big time.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I think he overdid it a little bit. I think
- 19:52Speaker 1: he's really dominant and powerful, not that he wasn't powerful
- 19:56Speaker 1: last year, but I think three twenty fives a little
- 19:58Speaker 1: bit better. I think he overdid it some. And I
- 20:01Speaker 1: think that it's it's going to be a very very
- 20:04Speaker 1: interesting derby. You know, you get the KG veteran Clint
- 20:06Speaker 1: Bowling playing that position. Who again, where would you be
- 20:11Speaker 1: without him? Kicked out there and played left tackle. Tells
- 20:13Speaker 1: you what they thought of the way he when, you know,
- 20:16Speaker 1: gimping and limping Clint Bowling goes out there on the
- 20:19Speaker 1: left tackle. Um, so yeah, there's there's gonna be you know,
- 20:23Speaker 1: there's another guy, Rod Taylor who early went down early
- 20:27Speaker 1: in training camp. This kid's got some feet. I mean
- 20:30Speaker 1: he's going to be in the in the fray. I
- 20:32Speaker 1: think at the left guard position, Westerman, Redman, Taylor, Bowling,
- 20:35Speaker 1: there's gonna be a ton of guys, you know, and
- 20:38Speaker 1: when all said and done, Dan, you know, when you
- 20:40Speaker 1: when you look at your you know, you look at
- 20:42Speaker 1: your offensive line. You get two centers, three guards, four tackles,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know for that nine offensive line, So you know
- 20:49Speaker 1: it's it's it's going to be a very competitive situation.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Um Hopkins is in that mix center and guard. He'll
- 20:56Speaker 1: probably be the backup center and in a in a
- 20:58Speaker 1: swing guard. I think you know, he his versatility gives
- 21:01Speaker 1: him a leg up there. So it's going to be
- 21:03Speaker 1: extremely competitive. But you know, four tackles, two centers, three guards,
- 21:09Speaker 1: four tackles. Well, they didn't have to draft some tackles.
- 21:13Speaker 1: That's the bottom line. And I think i'd love to
- 21:17Speaker 1: see the Bengals hit on the offensive line like the
- 21:20Speaker 1: Indianapolis Colts did. Indianapolis Colts shit Quentin Nelson, you know,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and then Smith at the right tackle position with Nelson
- 21:28Speaker 1: and left guard Smith at right tackle, two plug and
- 21:30Speaker 1: play starters. I don't know if you can be that lucky,
- 21:34Speaker 1: but I think they can help themselves this year's drafting,
- 21:37Speaker 1: and I think there's gonna be in the first three rounds,
- 21:41Speaker 1: there's gonna be a bunch of offensive tackles. There'll probably
- 21:43Speaker 1: three or four go in the first round. But I'm
- 21:45Speaker 1: not sure if eleven might be a little bit rich,
- 21:48Speaker 1: it might not. But if there hasn't been a run
- 21:51Speaker 1: on tackles and the best one is there at eleven,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I think he got to do it. But the three
- 21:55Speaker 1: or four could go on the first round, seven or
- 21:57Speaker 1: eight could go in the first couple rounds, and you
- 21:59Speaker 1: know so and then you know, I could see tackles
- 22:02Speaker 1: even being picked in the third run. Offensive tackle and
- 22:06Speaker 1: linebacker of both deep positions, and those are two huge
- 22:10Speaker 1: needs that the Cincinnati Bengals have. And you know that's
- 22:12Speaker 1: why when you when you look at it, the two Devons,
- 22:16Speaker 1: if Devin White from Illis you are Devin Bush from
- 22:18Speaker 1: Michigan are there at number eleven? I know traditionally it's like, man,
- 22:22Speaker 1: that's that's rich for a linebacker. These are two three
- 22:25Speaker 1: down linebackers. Though I'm not sure if you can't pull it,
- 22:28Speaker 1: you know, I might want to pull the trade on
- 22:30Speaker 1: one of those two guys. So and like I said,
- 22:33Speaker 1: you know, if there's a run on everybody and that
- 22:36Speaker 1: you had in mind, and you don't have anybody that
- 22:37Speaker 1: you have value and eno if you can always trade down.
- 22:39Speaker 1: But man, I might be tempted to if one of
- 22:43Speaker 1: those players, the number one offensive tackle or the one
- 22:46Speaker 1: you have number one raided on your board, or one
- 22:48Speaker 1: of those linebackers are there. I may have to think
- 22:51Speaker 1: about that. I already am thinking about it. You kidding me,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I've been thinking about it for months. All right, Let's
- 22:57Speaker 1: talk about the other free agent of the Bengals signed
- 22:59Speaker 1: away from another their team. That is b W Webb,
- 23:02Speaker 1: a cornerback from the New York Giants, well traveled in
- 23:05Speaker 1: his NFL career. Bengals gave him a three year deal
- 23:08Speaker 1: for ten point five mill and but from everything we've read,
- 23:11Speaker 1: because I didn't know much about b W Webb, he's
- 23:14Speaker 1: just a guy until they moved him into the slot
- 23:17Speaker 1: corner position last year with the New York Giants, playing
- 23:20Speaker 1: for a defensive backs coach who is now going to
- 23:22Speaker 1: be as defensive coordinator in Cincinnati, and his again in
- 23:27Speaker 1: Pro Football Focus rating as a slot corner was excellent.
- 23:32Speaker 1: It was. And as you said, the familiarity Luana Rumo
- 23:36Speaker 1: is is obviously, you know, bang on the table for him.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Wanted to get him signed, particularly when Darkus Denard. You know,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I was looking for ten million year or whatever he
- 23:48Speaker 1: was looking for. Some of the guys that are still
- 23:50Speaker 1: out there as free agents. There's two things, like in
- 23:54Speaker 1: the first week of free agency, when guys were expecting
- 23:56Speaker 1: to go and they don't. Number one, they've price themselves
- 24:01Speaker 1: as one possibility. Or number two, there's some sort of
- 24:04Speaker 1: a physical injury that has team scared, whether it's a
- 24:07Speaker 1: baky knee, a bad shoulder, whatever it is, or it
- 24:10Speaker 1: might be a combination of both. And I don't know
- 24:13Speaker 1: what the situation is what Dark wees I think ten
- 24:15Speaker 1: million obviously is the biggest issue. I mean, nobody gets
- 24:18Speaker 1: getting at so he's having to readjust his sights there.
- 24:22Speaker 1: But when it looked like, you know, Jesus, we're way
- 24:26Speaker 1: apart with dark wees denard, let's let's go to a
- 24:29Speaker 1: plan B. And they got somebody for a third of
- 24:33Speaker 1: what Darkques was looking for. You're going to make that
- 24:35Speaker 1: deal all day every day, and then other people sign
- 24:38Speaker 1: and I'm not sure there's enough left on the table.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Even a dark does come down to a more agreeable
- 24:46Speaker 1: range if they if they can pull the trigger on it,
- 24:48Speaker 1: I think they'd like to. I think they like him
- 24:49Speaker 1: as a person as a football player, but it all
- 24:52Speaker 1: has to make sense in the salary cap, but it
- 24:55Speaker 1: is it is interesting. Sometimes you don't know the physical
- 25:01Speaker 1: state of players, and two they actually bring them in
- 25:03Speaker 1: and your doctors put their own eyes on them. And
- 25:06Speaker 1: in this league we've seen it many times. Players past
- 25:09Speaker 1: physicals with some franchises and don't with others. You know,
- 25:13Speaker 1: there's some some franchises have a little bit more, you know,
- 25:16Speaker 1: they're they're not they're not quite as conservative as others,
- 25:19Speaker 1: and some have paid a serious price because of that.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I mean, the Bengals have had issues with that at
- 25:25Speaker 1: the receiver position in their past and they don't want
- 25:28Speaker 1: to get stuck in that situation again. But honestly, those
- 25:31Speaker 1: are the two areas. It's it's, uh, you know, where
- 25:34Speaker 1: where are you are? You are your pricing yourself right?
- 25:37Speaker 1: And where are you physically in terms of in terms
- 25:40Speaker 1: of free agency? But I mean, Web, he's he's solid.
- 25:44Speaker 1: It looks like he's a solid football player, a solid edition.
- 25:47Speaker 1: They still have their two number one draft picks on
- 25:50Speaker 1: the outside and playing Web and the inside, and they
- 25:52Speaker 1: got a couple of young players they like last year
- 25:54Speaker 1: that they can develop. So it's going to be interesting
- 25:58Speaker 1: how it all unfolds with Dark West as we do
- 26:01Speaker 1: this podcast Dark Quaz I believe is scheduled to visit
- 26:03Speaker 1: with the Kansas City Chiefs today, So maybe it works
- 26:06Speaker 1: out for him in kc although I don't. I don't
- 26:08Speaker 1: think he's going to get ten million plus per year
- 26:11Speaker 1: from the Chiefs. But but let's say, for the sake
- 26:14Speaker 1: of argument, that he does not come back to Cincinnati.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Does that now bring cornerback back into play with the
- 26:20Speaker 1: eleventh pick in the draft? You know, I think I
- 26:24Speaker 1: think there that cornerback is another deep position. But I'm
- 26:28Speaker 1: not sure. You know, I'm not sure that I go
- 26:30Speaker 1: there at eleven. I don't know, you know, I'd have to,
- 26:33Speaker 1: I'd have to. I'm not saying cornerback is week in
- 26:39Speaker 1: the first round, but I could see them going cornerback
- 26:42Speaker 1: in the second round. I mean, if they go a
- 26:44Speaker 1: lineback or offensive line in the first round, I could
- 26:48Speaker 1: see him going cornerback in the second round, or I
- 26:49Speaker 1: could see him going with the other position they didn't
- 26:52Speaker 1: with that first round pick. But yeah, I mean they're
- 26:54Speaker 1: going to definitely they'll take a cornerback. Webb was what
- 26:58Speaker 1: a fourth rounder coming out. I think I think something
- 27:00Speaker 1: like that fourth or fifth round guy somewhere in that range,
- 27:04Speaker 1: so you know, doesn't have to be a first round guy.
- 27:08Speaker 1: But the Bengals have had good success on the back
- 27:11Speaker 1: end goal with force rounders, that's for sure. What's your
- 27:15Speaker 1: free agency status? When do you do you got a
- 27:18Speaker 1: big contract coming anytime soon? Right? I'm just thankful to
- 27:22Speaker 1: wake up and look at the grass, and I'm looking
- 27:25Speaker 1: at the green side rather than the brown side. Everyone
- 27:30Speaker 1: lap predicted the perfect news, and I'm going to make
- 27:32Speaker 1: a prediction about Tyler Eiffort. I predict that Effort plays
- 27:36Speaker 1: in at least twelve games this year. His luck has
- 27:40Speaker 1: got to change sooner or later. Right. Last year, in
- 27:44Speaker 1: the four games that Eifford played in before his nasty
- 27:46Speaker 1: ankle injury, the Bengals scored thirty four, thirty four, twenty one,
- 27:52Speaker 1: and thirty seven points, and one of those thirty four
- 27:55Speaker 1: point games was against Baltimore, one of the best defensive
- 27:59Speaker 1: teams in the NFL. The Bengals average thirty one point
- 28:03Speaker 1: five points with Effort and twenty point two without him.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Since his twenty fifteen Pro Bowls season, when Tyler caught
- 28:12Speaker 1: thirteen touchdown passes, Effort has only played in fourteen of
- 28:16Speaker 1: a possible forty eight games. Due to back and ankle injuries.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I was pretty frustrated, to say the least. You do
- 28:25Speaker 1: everything you can to put yourself in a good position
- 28:28Speaker 1: and then something like that happens. You just kind of
- 28:30Speaker 1: ask why. But you know, once you kind of take
- 28:33Speaker 1: a step back and kind of gather yourself, it's it's
- 28:36Speaker 1: not the worst thing that can happen, and you just
- 28:40Speaker 1: try to be as positive as you can and support
- 28:42Speaker 1: your guys, support your teammates, and find a way to
- 28:46Speaker 1: get healthy again. And that's what I've had to do. It.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's I certainly don't enjoy rehab or anything about it,
- 28:53Speaker 1: but it is somewhat rewarding being able to complete that
- 28:58Speaker 1: process and go up through all that out coming out
- 29:01Speaker 1: all right. According to Paul Dayner Junior of the Cincinnati Enquirer,
- 29:05Speaker 1: Eiffert's one year contract is for a base of four
- 29:08Speaker 1: million dollars with lots of potential bonuses. He'll get eighty
- 29:13Speaker 1: one thousand bucks every time he's on the forty six
- 29:16Speaker 1: man game day roster, and the deal also includes up
- 29:19Speaker 1: to two point five million in incentives. Before Iffort signed
- 29:24Speaker 1: his deal, the only Bengals tight end to appear in
- 29:26Speaker 1: every game last year also agreed to return. C j
- 29:31Speaker 1: uzama I spoke with him last week, the day he
- 29:34Speaker 1: signed his new contract about a wide variety of topics,
- 29:37Speaker 1: including whether he would personally recruit his buddy effort to
- 29:42Speaker 1: stick around. Two. CJ, you became a free agent for
- 29:45Speaker 1: the first time. Were you open to any possibility or
- 29:48Speaker 1: did you really want to come back to Cincinnati? Yeah,
- 29:50Speaker 1: I mean I really wanted to come back. Obviously, I
- 29:53Speaker 1: was open to, you know, whatever happens happens. And I
- 29:56Speaker 1: was very laid back about the entire situation just because
- 30:00Speaker 1: I knew that that was this is the business aspect
- 30:02Speaker 1: of it, and I've done all I could do, um,
- 30:05Speaker 1: you know, with with football watch so um, but I
- 30:08Speaker 1: will say that, you know, I am unbelievably excited to
- 30:11Speaker 1: come back, and you know, the coaching change and you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: the culture change that that's going to occur as was
- 30:17Speaker 1: very appealing to me. Um. And so that definitely was
- 30:21Speaker 1: at the forefront of my mind throughout everything that was
- 30:23Speaker 1: going on. And UM, I know the numerous talks that
- 30:26Speaker 1: I've had with my agent, you know, we had talked
- 30:28Speaker 1: about that that was pretty much what we let off with.
- 30:30Speaker 1: So um. Yeah, I'm excited that it's over with. I'm
- 30:33Speaker 1: excited to be back here and I'm excited to you know,
- 30:35Speaker 1: hit the ground running and and really get ready for
- 30:38Speaker 1: the next season. You've been here for four years. What
- 30:40Speaker 1: is it about the team in the city that you like?
- 30:43Speaker 1: I mean, I just like, I like my guys man
- 30:45Speaker 1: that I have here. I love I love the interaction
- 30:47Speaker 1: that I have with with you know, everyone, with Geo,
- 30:49Speaker 1: Andy and AJ, Tyler Boyd and um we have a
- 30:53Speaker 1: young team honestly too, which is which is crazy to
- 30:56Speaker 1: me thinking about it right now, the oldest Titan as
- 30:59Speaker 1: it stands in the Tide End room. So, um, that's
- 31:02Speaker 1: kind of that's kind of a little eye opening. But Um,
- 31:05Speaker 1: as far as the city is concerned, I like how
- 31:07Speaker 1: it's I mean, it's it's in size, it's kind of
- 31:10Speaker 1: a big city, but you know, it has a small
- 31:12Speaker 1: city feel to it, and I love that. I mean,
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'm from a little suburb outside of Atlanta. I'm not
- 31:16Speaker 1: really I'm a suburbs guy, you know, So, um, it
- 31:19Speaker 1: has that kind of small town feel to me. Um.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I love going out and Geo and I find these
- 31:24Speaker 1: awesome little like hole in the wall restaurants that would
- 31:26Speaker 1: go to and Um, I love just you know, being
- 31:28Speaker 1: able to walk around and um, hang out and vibe
- 31:32Speaker 1: in the city. Yeah, No, I don't know, it's nice.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I love it. You've made decent bucks for a recent
- 31:37Speaker 1: college grad. But if the reports are accurate, three years,
- 31:41Speaker 1: eighteen million, that's life changing money. Has that sunk in? No, Yeah,
- 31:45Speaker 1: I definitely did. Um at the moment, it didn't. When
- 31:48Speaker 1: I had heard the numbers and kind of my agent
- 31:52Speaker 1: was talking about what, you know, what the contract, um,
- 31:55Speaker 1: you know, kind of the verbiage of it. But you know,
- 31:57Speaker 1: when I got to talk to my parents a little
- 31:59Speaker 1: bit about it, um, you know, I you know, I
- 32:01Speaker 1: kind of just cried a little bit just thinking about how, um,
- 32:04Speaker 1: you know, the process that it took to get here
- 32:06Speaker 1: and everything that had come with that, and uh, you know,
- 32:09Speaker 1: it's it's I don't think that I'll really understand it
- 32:12Speaker 1: until a little bit later in life. But um. Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: As as a saying, yeah, I'm very I mean, I'm
- 32:18Speaker 1: immeasurably blessed to be in the position that I am.
- 32:20Speaker 1: We're talking to see Juzama. You played hurt last year.
- 32:23Speaker 1: There were times you'd make a catch and I'd describe
- 32:26Speaker 1: you coming off the field with your arm pinned against
- 32:28Speaker 1: your side and lap them when I were convinced, well
- 32:31Speaker 1: that's it for today. There's no way it comes back.
- 32:33Speaker 1: One or two snaps later, you were back in the game.
- 32:35Speaker 1: How bad was it? That was pretty bad? Um. So
- 32:39Speaker 1: one of the things that kind of like pushed me
- 32:41Speaker 1: through one was I know that Aj Green had had,
- 32:45Speaker 1: you know, had similar things going on with him earlier
- 32:47Speaker 1: in his career, and um, you know they always would
- 32:50Speaker 1: joke with me in the back. Well, AJ played through it,
- 32:53Speaker 1: U And AJ's response is, yeah, I didn't have to
- 32:55Speaker 1: block anybody. I just had to casht theball. But um,
- 32:58Speaker 1: you know, hearing that and you know, I mean it hurt.
- 33:01Speaker 1: I mean it sucked. But at the same time, you know,
- 33:03Speaker 1: it's you know, it's part of football. It's you know,
- 33:05Speaker 1: you get beat up, and um, you gotta love it.
- 33:08Speaker 1: You gotta really embrace that aspect of it. And um,
- 33:12Speaker 1: you know, like you said, yeah, there are certain times
- 33:13Speaker 1: I'd hit the ground and be like, I mean, I
- 33:15Speaker 1: would be no good the next place, so I'm gonna
- 33:17Speaker 1: come off, but um it'd feel fine, and I you know,
- 33:20Speaker 1: kind of shrug it off a little bit get back
- 33:21Speaker 1: in there and try to help the team win. So um, yeah,
- 33:25Speaker 1: that's kind of my mindset about it, and my mindset
- 33:27Speaker 1: with you know, injuries, I guess in general. So um, yeah,
- 33:31Speaker 1: I mean it hurt, but it didn't it didn't. It
- 33:34Speaker 1: didn't hurt that bad. Two weeks after the season, after resting,
- 33:37Speaker 1: it was okay. Yeah, two weeks after it felt fine. Um,
- 33:40Speaker 1: And you know, they told me to take a month off.
- 33:42Speaker 1: So I kind of called called a bunch of the
- 33:43Speaker 1: guys and I was like, Hey, can I do anything
- 33:46Speaker 1: or shut not? And they said, nah, just take a
- 33:47Speaker 1: month off, just rest it. Um, don't you know you
- 33:50Speaker 1: don't want any residual effects from you know, trying to
- 33:52Speaker 1: push yourself too hard and trying to do anything. So
- 33:55Speaker 1: I was like, all right, it's fine with me. I'll
- 33:57Speaker 1: take a month off of not doing anything on it.
- 33:58Speaker 1: And then um got back in the weight room and
- 34:01Speaker 1: I felt like nothing had ever happened. So um, it's
- 34:04Speaker 1: kind of funny how that works, but yeah, I know
- 34:06Speaker 1: it feels fun You and Tyler Reifford are tight. He
- 34:09Speaker 1: remains a free agent. How much have you been in
- 34:12Speaker 1: contact and do you try to recruit him or is
- 34:14Speaker 1: it a part of the business where you just let
- 34:16Speaker 1: that be and when he makes a decision, then you
- 34:19Speaker 1: deal with that. Yeah, I mean obviously, I mean I
- 34:22Speaker 1: was my guy, I is my guy. We Geo called
- 34:25Speaker 1: me on Sunday and he was with Life and um,
- 34:28Speaker 1: they're just checking up seeing how I was doing stuff,
- 34:30Speaker 1: and you know, we kind of talked a little bit
- 34:31Speaker 1: about it. But um yeah, it's kind of like one
- 34:34Speaker 1: of those things where I don't really know if I, um,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I obviously I want to play with my guys. You know,
- 34:41Speaker 1: our room would be immensely better with him in it. Um,
- 34:44Speaker 1: both you know, on the football field and off of it.
- 34:47Speaker 1: So um yeah, I'm I'm I'm gonna chirp in his
- 34:51Speaker 1: ear a little bit, but I don't want to. I
- 34:53Speaker 1: don't want to push too hard, you know, I know. Um,
- 34:55Speaker 1: you know, it's a business in that way, which you know,
- 34:58Speaker 1: it is what it is. It sucks some sons, but
- 35:00Speaker 1: um yeah, I'm hoping. I'm hoping we get him back. Obviously,
- 35:04Speaker 1: that's my guy. He looks pretty good in the workout videos.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I have to give him the most
- 35:08Speaker 1: crap for those workout videos. Um. Now, I know it's
- 35:11Speaker 1: I know he has to pay. I mean he's posting
- 35:13Speaker 1: him because you know, he wants everyone to know he's
- 35:14Speaker 1: good and he is, I mean he's um and he
- 35:17Speaker 1: works his butt off and you know, being able to
- 35:19Speaker 1: see that part of him that you know other people don't.
- 35:21Speaker 1: That's why he posts the things that he does, you know,
- 35:23Speaker 1: because he wants everyone to know that. Um, he's truly
- 35:26Speaker 1: dedicated to it. And you know, we in the locker
- 35:29Speaker 1: room we know that. And anybody that knows him knows
- 35:31Speaker 1: that he he works as hard as anybody else does
- 35:34Speaker 1: just to be able to play and be with his guys,
- 35:37Speaker 1: and UM, so we respect the heck out of him
- 35:39Speaker 1: for that. You'll have a new Tight Ends coach this year,
- 35:42Speaker 1: James Casey, who is closer to your age than mine.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I've heard from people that he is like the greatest
- 35:48Speaker 1: guy ever. I don't know how well you've gotten to
- 35:51Speaker 1: know him yet, but how excited are you to play
- 35:53Speaker 1: for a guy that's sin it's mid thirties. Yeah. No,
- 35:55Speaker 1: I've gotten to talk to him a little bit, you know, UM,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and now I'm very excited. Um. I've mentioned you know,
- 36:02Speaker 1: I love coaches coaches, and I was still keeping contact
- 36:05Speaker 1: and um, I think that he has helped me develop
- 36:08Speaker 1: into the tight end that I am today because I
- 36:10Speaker 1: didn't play tight end in college. So, UM, I have
- 36:15Speaker 1: the most respect for him. And you know, coach Casey
- 36:17Speaker 1: coming in, we're very similar in terms of, you know,
- 36:20Speaker 1: kind of our background. You know, he played quarterback in
- 36:23Speaker 1: high school and then um, in college he was kind
- 36:25Speaker 1: of like a slash player. You know, he was more
- 36:27Speaker 1: of a slash player than I was. He played. I
- 36:29Speaker 1: remember reading something about he played like seven positions in
- 36:32Speaker 1: one game and I was like, dude, this guy, this guy,
- 36:36Speaker 1: he's got it. Um. So yeah, I know, I've gotten
- 36:38Speaker 1: to talk to him a little bit and he seems
- 36:40Speaker 1: like a great guy. And I honestly, I'm looking forward
- 36:42Speaker 1: to working with him. And um, you know, he's you know,
- 36:46Speaker 1: coming from similar backgrounds. He was like, you look, I
- 36:48Speaker 1: understand you know the intricacies of the position that um,
- 36:51Speaker 1: you have to learn, you know, not playing it growing up.
- 36:53Speaker 1: So he said he's looking forward to you know, coaching
- 36:56Speaker 1: me on that, and UM, now I'm I'm really looking
- 36:59Speaker 1: forward to building a reallytionship with him. Last thing, you
- 37:02Speaker 1: love to travel. You can afford first class now or
- 37:04Speaker 1: at least business class. What's on the itinerary. Um, I'll
- 37:09Speaker 1: still be sitting. I'll still be sitting you know the
- 37:12Speaker 1: the x ro x ros my go too. It's only
- 37:15Speaker 1: like fifteen bucks extra and you get the most legroom.
- 37:17Speaker 1: So um. Now, yeah, I'm going to Jail's wedding, Um
- 37:21Speaker 1: coming up here in April, which is in Italy, which
- 37:23Speaker 1: is in Italy. Yea, if it's in Italy, Lake Como. Um,
- 37:26Speaker 1: and so I'm I'm looking forward to that. You know,
- 37:28Speaker 1: there's a there's a few of the guys that that
- 37:30Speaker 1: are gonna be going there and I'm looking forward to
- 37:32Speaker 1: seeing him. Um. And uh yeah, so that's that's the
- 37:35Speaker 1: only true plans. Um. You know, I'm moving to Nashville,
- 37:38Speaker 1: and um, I've been traveling a little bit this offseason. Um.
- 37:42Speaker 1: But other than that, yeah, it it'll LEAs next on
- 37:44Speaker 1: the trip. And that's the next big one. Congratulations on
- 37:47Speaker 1: the new deal. It is well deserved. And look forward
- 37:49Speaker 1: to having you back in Cincinnati. Thank you. That's going
