- 0:39Speaker 4: Welcome in glad to have you with us here on
- 0:41Speaker 4: a Tuesday. This portion of the program is brought to
- 0:44Speaker 4: you by Radiant Dentistry. We think we've slapped together a
- 0:48Speaker 4: decent show today. It's fifteen minutes short. We've got Aggie
- 0:51Speaker 4: Baseball pregame at five forty five, first pitch six. We're
- 0:56Speaker 4: gonna hear from Mike Elco. We're gonna have a high
- 0:58Speaker 4: school report. We're gonna hear from Island Griffin. In the
- 1:01Speaker 4: second hour. I'm going to be joined by John Butler.
- 1:04Speaker 4: His book is called Heartland Highways in Search of America.
- 1:08Speaker 4: John Butler will join us. Mallory will have a little
- 1:12Speaker 4: entertainment news for us as well. The Aggie baseball team,
- 1:17Speaker 4: as I mentioned, is hosting Texas State this evening, sixty fifth.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Time the teams have done that.
- 1:29Speaker 4: The Aggis lead the all time series forty nine to fifteen,
- 1:32Speaker 4: but Texas State, which has been very good recently, has
- 1:37Speaker 4: won eight of the last ten matchups. Caden Serell leads
- 1:43Speaker 4: a team nine dingers, thirty three ribbis, and eight twenty
- 1:49Speaker 4: four slugging percentage. The Aggie scored a lot of runs
- 1:53Speaker 4: over the weekend and they gave up a lot of
- 1:57Speaker 4: runs over the weekend. Texas State comes in with a
- 2:02Speaker 4: twelve and seven record. They just opened the Sunbelt Conference
- 2:08Speaker 4: getting swept by three. We will see about this evening again.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Six o'clock first pitch, five point forty five pregame. Then
- 2:20Speaker 4: Georgia comes to town for three on Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
- 2:28Speaker 4: and Houston Christian on Tuesday will close out the five
- 2:32Speaker 4: game home stand. US versus Venezuela tonight in the World
- 2:40Speaker 4: Baseball Classic Finals Venezuela came from Hide last night to
- 2:46Speaker 4: beat Italy.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It should be fun.
- 2:49Speaker 4: It has been great atmospheres all the way around. Those
- 2:55Speaker 4: Venezuela people last night in Miami. I mean they were wild.
- 3:00Speaker 4: They know how to party, and I'm sure they did.
- 3:02Speaker 4: They did during the game, they did after the game
- 3:06Speaker 4: in the stands. The men's basketball Tournament College March Madness
- 3:15Speaker 4: begins tonight. Two play in games the Retrievers of Maryland,
- 3:22Speaker 4: Baltimore County and Howard no relation that I know of.
- 3:29Speaker 4: That will be followed by Texas and North Carolina State.
- 3:33Speaker 4: In fact, three of the seven Texas teams who are
- 3:38Speaker 4: in the tournament are in play in games tomorrow, Prairie
- 3:44Speaker 4: View against Lehigh and Miami of Ohio at thirty one
- 3:49Speaker 4: and one takes on SMU. So three of the seven
- 3:54Speaker 4: are playing in only well, I guess three can could
- 4:01Speaker 4: make it because they're not playing one another. So we'll
- 4:05Speaker 4: see Duke forward Cameron Boozer, one of three freshmen that
- 4:11Speaker 4: made the first team Associated Press All American Team, AJ
- 4:15Speaker 4: Debonza of BYU Darius A. Cuff of Arkansas the other
- 4:21Speaker 4: two freshmen to go with Jackson Lindeberg of Michigan and j. T.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Toppin of Texas Tech. Second team, Perdue point guard Braden Smith,
- 4:35Speaker 4: Jeremy Fears.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Of Michigan State. Don't agree with that one.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Keaton Wogler of Illinois, Joshua Jefferson of Iowa State, North
- 4:44Speaker 4: Carolina freshman Caleb Wilson. Third team Gonzaga senior Graham E. K. Houston, freshman,
- 4:55Speaker 4: Kingston Flemings sophomores Christian Anderson of Texas Tech, LeBaron Pylon
- 5:01Speaker 4: of Alabama, and Thomas Howk of Florida.
- 5:06Speaker 1: You're keeping score.
- 5:07Speaker 4: That's three sec all Americans on the third team. Authorities
- 5:16Speaker 4: now say they found over two pounds of marijuana in
- 5:21Speaker 4: Aiden Holloway's apartment when he was arrested on felony drug
- 5:25Speaker 4: charges yesterday morning. That's significant two point one pounds.
- 5:31Speaker 5: It was.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Anything over two point two, which is a kilo, can
- 5:35Speaker 4: result in a drug trafficking charge. So either Aiden smoked it,
- 5:42Speaker 4: sold a little of it, or got short change when
- 5:45Speaker 4: he bought a kilo of grass. Holloway was quote removed
- 5:51Speaker 4: from campus, is not with the team. Nato says the
- 5:55Speaker 4: team's preparing to play without him when they play Hofstra
- 5:59Speaker 4: on Friday. Holloway is free on five thousand dollars bond.
- 6:05Speaker 4: He's been charged with the Class C felony drug possession
- 6:09Speaker 4: quote not for personal use.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And failure to fix a tax stamp charge. I don't
- 6:16Speaker 1: know what that is.
- 6:18Speaker 4: I guess if you buy a kilo of grass, you
- 6:21Speaker 4: got to pay taxes on it. They're both felonies carry
- 6:24Speaker 4: maximum sentences of ten years in the HUSCAL and fifteen
- 6:29Speaker 4: ger fine. David Cutcliffe is retiring former National Coach of
- 6:34Speaker 4: the Year, three time Conference Coach of the year, forty
- 6:38Speaker 4: year football career. He's been serving as the SEC's Special
- 6:43Speaker 4: Assistant to the Commissioner since twenty twenty two. So Matt
- 6:51Speaker 4: Leinert says it's not uncommon in this day and age
- 6:55Speaker 4: when college players have so much money that one of
- 6:59Speaker 4: the recruit incentives is for them to get the jersey
- 7:05Speaker 4: number that they want. Liner says his jersey, which has
- 7:12Speaker 4: been retired, is off limits, said Liner on a podcast
- 7:17Speaker 4: last week. When I was at USC, I got my
- 7:20Speaker 4: number retired. You win the Heisman automatic number, which.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Is pretty cool.
- 7:25Speaker 4: So our jerseys are hanging in the colisseum on one side,
- 7:29Speaker 4: he says. Over the years, the school is asked him
- 7:31Speaker 4: about unretiring the jersey for top recruits. His answer is
- 7:37Speaker 4: the same. There's been multiple times when people at USC
- 7:40Speaker 4: have asked me if I would unretire my jersey for
- 7:43Speaker 4: some five star project, and do you want to know
- 7:47Speaker 4: what I told them, straight up, absolutely bleeping not. I'm
- 7:53Speaker 4: never going to unretire my jersey for some random dude who,
- 7:57Speaker 4: by the way, now could wear number eleven and in
- 8:00Speaker 4: transfer after a year.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I like that.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Mike Elcoe met with the media today brought us two
- 8:07Speaker 4: new coordinators with him. You heard that news conference live
- 8:15Speaker 4: here on the Zone this afternoon. You say you didn't, Well,
- 8:20Speaker 4: guess what. We're going to play a little Mike Elko
- 8:22Speaker 4: for you, just in case. He gave some injury updates
- 8:29Speaker 4: long term injuries from guys who suffered injuries during this
- 8:37Speaker 4: season and had surgery. Jermaine Kinsler Dayon Petaway and then
- 8:43Speaker 4: Tom Tom Johnson, Dalton Brooks, Des Ricks, Papa Afua, and
- 8:49Speaker 4: Jamar Bill Goins all will be along with Michael Riley,
- 8:56Speaker 4: Jerro Miles. All will be limited in spring practice, which starts,
- 9:01Speaker 4: by the way, on Friday, which should be a national holiday.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Actually Thursday and Friday should be a national holiday because
- 9:09Speaker 4: March Madness starts. That's what I think. But hey, that's
- 9:13Speaker 4: just me speaking of March Madness.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Can we play the theme song?
- 9:18Speaker 4: Trade? I need to remind these people that our March
- 9:22Speaker 4: Madness contest.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Is frankly underway.
- 9:27Speaker 4: You have to go online at chipower dot com to
- 9:30Speaker 4: the contest page register if you're not already. I had
- 9:35Speaker 4: a friend asked today who said, hey, am I supposed
- 9:37Speaker 4: to get an email confirmation?
- 9:39Speaker 1: My answer is, you bet you are.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Once you pick your ten teams, you should get an
- 9:44Speaker 4: email confirmation. If you're not, you need to check on that.
- 9:48Speaker 4: You have until eleven am Thursday morning. Actually you have
- 9:53Speaker 4: until ten fifty nine fifty nine because at eleven you're
- 9:56Speaker 4: automatically shut out of the contest, So you have a
- 9:59Speaker 4: little bit of time to go through the brackets, listen
- 10:03Speaker 4: to all the talking heads and what they say, and
- 10:06Speaker 4: do the exact opposite and you'll be fine.
- 10:09Speaker 1: All you have to do is pick ten teams.
- 10:12Speaker 4: It's America's simplest bracket contest for america simplest listeners. It's
- 10:17Speaker 4: brought to you by Tzwerneman Floring and Chad Jones Law.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Make your ten picks. You'll be sorry if you don't.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Sports Talk Madness is exclusively from your pal at the Zone,
- 10:32Speaker 4: So go get that done. Uh. Coming up, we're gonna
- 10:36Speaker 4: hear from Mike Elko, We've got a high school report.
- 10:39Speaker 1: We've got author John Butler with us.
- 10:41Speaker 4: We're gonna hear from Ryland Griffin on heading to Oklahoma
- 10:45Speaker 4: City for the first round of the tournament against Saint
- 10:49Speaker 4: Mary's on Thursday night. Tomorrow on the program, Steve Denton
- 10:54Speaker 4: tennis coach with me, and Scott clintenon with his usual
- 10:59Speaker 4: Wednesday gig with me and Mallory is with me tomorrow.
- 11:03Speaker 1: We do not have shows Thursday and Friday.
- 11:07Speaker 4: We have wall to wall coverage, which I think starts
- 11:12Speaker 4: at ten.
- 11:12Speaker 1: With our pregame show Thursday morning.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I think first games a little bit after eleven, so
- 11:19Speaker 4: we will have mostly basketball interspersed with some aggie baseball.
- 11:26Speaker 4: This weekend on the Zote, it'll be a good weekend
- 11:31Speaker 4: to not turn off the radio. Actually, every weekend is
- 11:35Speaker 4: a good weekend to not turn off the radio. And
- 11:38Speaker 4: weekdays from four to six, we'll take a break, we'll
- 11:41Speaker 4: come back. This portion of the show is brought to
- 11:44Speaker 4: you by Chad Jones Law.
- 11:46Speaker 6: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 11:49Speaker 6: do injuries from car rex. But you didn't sign up
- 11:51Speaker 6: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 11:53Speaker 6: paying attention. It was their fault and now you're left
- 11:56Speaker 6: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a
- 11:58Speaker 6: doctor and you're missing work. Jones Law can help. We've
- 12:01Speaker 6: been helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop
- 12:04Speaker 6: getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember, don't
- 12:07Speaker 6: get mad. Get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at ninety
- 12:10Speaker 6: seven nine five to ninety five five thousand, or go
- 12:13Speaker 6: online to Chad Jones Law dot com.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Having Canty and Michelle are unsportsman life?
- 12:19Speaker 7: Is it all on them that you decided to let
- 12:21Speaker 7: both Sam Donald and Daniel Jones walk out.
- 12:23Speaker 5: Of the door.
- 12:23Speaker 7: Is that all on the former general manager and just
- 12:26Speaker 7: supposed to be the foremost expert when it comes to
- 12:28Speaker 7: quarterback play? I ain't buying it, and it's about damn
- 12:31Speaker 7: time that people start coming around and calling it for
- 12:33Speaker 7: what it is. Choc needs to have success in the postseason.
- 12:37Speaker 7: The game that he has ain't matching.
- 12:39Speaker 5: The name unsportsman like.
- 12:41Speaker 8: Listen in weekday mornings from Buying to eight on the
- 12:44Speaker 8: Zone eleven AM and ninety three points seven FM.
- 13:01Speaker 4: The whiskey is a gasoline that lights the fire, that
- 13:04Speaker 4: burns the bridge, ice creads.
- 13:06Speaker 9: The water that's no longer running under it stood, holds
- 13:10Speaker 9: food the pools of whiskey on his bruise and hard.
- 13:16Speaker 10: The cigar is creates.
- 13:18Speaker 11: The smoke and hides along some d is out June
- 13:21Speaker 11: MoOx pleased Hay counsel on some microdraft dance floor holds.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Of folks trying to forget who they are.
- 13:30Speaker 4: And that's what happens in GVN in hon guitar fall.
- 13:37Speaker 12: Friday night, it's given, I mean hands.
- 13:47Speaker 1: That's King George for you.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Thanks for being with us here on a Tuesday afternoon.
- 13:52Speaker 4: As we mentioned, michaelco met with the media this afternoon
- 13:57Speaker 4: to kick off spring football, our favorite sport of the
- 14:01Speaker 4: year by far. Love me some spring football. Kurk balls
- 14:05Speaker 4: and I if you follow Kirk, and you should on Fridays.
- 14:09Speaker 4: By the way, he won't be with us this week
- 14:12Speaker 4: because of basketball. You'll be back next Friday. But you
- 14:17Speaker 4: know that we are all over spring football. Here is
- 14:22Speaker 4: coach Elko.
- 14:25Speaker 13: I want to just start by wishing Bucky and the
- 14:27Speaker 13: basketball team good luck obviously traveling up to OKC for
- 14:30Speaker 13: a big game against Saint Mary's on Thursday. Really cool
- 14:33Speaker 13: to see what he was able to get done this year,
- 14:35Speaker 13: given where that programming team was when he got hired
- 14:39Speaker 13: last year. And so cool to see their name get
- 14:41Speaker 13: put in the bracket. Cool to see them play Thursday
- 14:43Speaker 13: Night'd be excited to watch them. Want to start just
- 14:46Speaker 13: kind of with a brief injury update for spraying the
- 14:49Speaker 13: long term stuff. So offensively, guys that'll be limited this spring,
- 14:53Speaker 13: Jero Miles, Michael Riley, and Papa Fua, they're still all
- 14:56Speaker 13: of this is recovering still from in season injuries.
- 14:59Speaker 5: They'll be out there, they'll be doing some stuff, but
- 15:01Speaker 5: they'll be limited. Defensively.
- 15:03Speaker 13: Jamar Bill Goins, Dalton Brooks, Tom Tom Johnson, Des Ricks,
- 15:06Speaker 13: Chase Sims all the same. They'll be out there doing stuff,
- 15:09Speaker 13: they just won't be full go. They won't be in
- 15:12Speaker 13: pads most of the time. All of those guys will
- 15:14Speaker 13: be fully cleared by the summer and ready to roll
- 15:17Speaker 13: for summer workouts. Two longer term ones that we just
- 15:20Speaker 13: want to put on your radar Jermaine Kinsler and Dajon
- 15:22Speaker 13: Petaway again season surgeries, but those will be a little
- 15:26Speaker 13: bit longer, so it'll be completely out this spring and
- 15:29Speaker 13: probably be out a good part of summer and even
- 15:31Speaker 13: in the fall camps. So that's kind of where we
- 15:33Speaker 13: are on an injury front. When it comes to practice,
- 15:36Speaker 13: just excited to get going, you know, excited to get
- 15:38Speaker 13: this team out on the grass. Obviously a lot of
- 15:40Speaker 13: new faces, a lot of new people. We talked about
- 15:42Speaker 13: forty eight new additions, new coordinators, some new coaching staff.
- 15:47Speaker 13: You know, at this point, we've done everything we can.
- 15:49Speaker 13: There's not really much left to accomplish in the building.
- 15:52Speaker 13: So it's just good to get ready to get out
- 15:54Speaker 13: on the grass and start playing football and start building
- 15:57Speaker 13: the identity of what this team is and what this
- 15:58Speaker 13: team's going to be this fall, and so excited for
- 16:01Speaker 13: the opportunity, Excited for Friday, and from there we'll kind
- 16:03Speaker 13: of open it up to questions.
- 16:06Speaker 14: Right go to the left, Alex, Obviously going to be
- 16:10Speaker 14: a lot of new faces on this offensive and defensive line,
- 16:13Speaker 14: just in terms of starters. But I'm just curious what
- 16:16Speaker 14: you think the prerogatives in spring ball is for both
- 16:19Speaker 14: sides at the ball in that trenches area.
- 16:22Speaker 13: Yeah, I think just competition. I think trying to identify
- 16:27Speaker 13: who the guys are that are going to be able
- 16:28Speaker 13: to contribute in different roles and what their skill sets
- 16:31Speaker 13: are and how we could best utilize them. What we
- 16:34Speaker 13: talked about the other day as a staff, which I
- 16:36Speaker 13: think is really cool, is the amount of players we
- 16:40Speaker 13: have that we feel like can go out there and
- 16:43Speaker 13: play is probably more than it's ever been. On the
- 16:45Speaker 13: offensive line, we have more SEC ready players. Now we've
- 16:49Speaker 13: got to find out to what level that is, right,
- 16:52Speaker 13: Can we be as good?
- 16:53Speaker 5: Can we be better? Is there still work to do?
- 16:56Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 16:56Speaker 13: That's ultimately what we got to find out in spring.
- 16:59Speaker 13: But it's going to be a very intense competition amongst
- 17:02Speaker 13: a lot of really talented offensive linemen and then very
- 17:05Speaker 13: similar defensive line wise. You know, you've got a lot
- 17:07Speaker 13: of five incoming transfers, with quite a handful of young,
- 17:13Speaker 13: talented rising sophomores, some returning players.
- 17:17Speaker 5: You just have a.
- 17:18Speaker 13: Really good mix of kids that are capable of playing
- 17:23Speaker 13: SEC football. You know, our challenges is to be able
- 17:25Speaker 13: to play it at an SEC championship level, right, And
- 17:28Speaker 13: that's what we got to figure out this spring, where
- 17:29Speaker 13: we are and what we got to do.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Coach, We'll say to the laft third roil, matthew a.
- 17:34Speaker 14: Coach, as you continue to shape this roster, what's one
- 17:37Speaker 14: intangible that you're focused on instilling during spring that you
- 17:40Speaker 14: think will define this team the fall.
- 17:42Speaker 13: Yeah, I think it's I think it's always like physicality.
- 17:45Speaker 13: I think in college football it's so different. We talked
- 17:48Speaker 13: about this on Monday morning, and the NFL has these
- 17:52Speaker 13: offseason mini camps, right and there's these thirty one year
- 17:55Speaker 13: old veterans trying to get through them to get to
- 17:58Speaker 13: the season. College football spring is about development. It's it's
- 18:02Speaker 13: the one time of year where you're in pads, you know,
- 18:06Speaker 13: eighty percent of the time, eighty five percent of the time,
- 18:08Speaker 13: you're able to be more physical. You're not worried about
- 18:12Speaker 13: getting ready for an opponent. You're literally focused on, you know,
- 18:15Speaker 13: building the identity of your team and getting better at
- 18:18Speaker 13: the game of football.
- 18:19Speaker 5: And that part is really cool.
- 18:21Speaker 13: And so I think when you talk about spring, physicality
- 18:24Speaker 13: is always the word to me that that you're trying
- 18:27Speaker 13: to establish because this is the best time of year
- 18:31Speaker 13: to go out there and try to be really physical,
- 18:33Speaker 13: good on good against each other, and try to elevate
- 18:36Speaker 13: that part of your program.
- 18:38Speaker 5: Go to State of the Left again. Fourth row.
- 18:40Speaker 15: Rob had a coach, So having a new offensive play
- 18:44Speaker 15: caller up in the booth, can you can you go
- 18:47Speaker 15: ahead and start working on that even during the spring,
- 18:51Speaker 15: so that you're able to hit the ground run and
- 18:54Speaker 15: in the fall.
- 18:54Speaker 13: Yeah, And I think honestly we've been working on that.
- 18:57Speaker 13: You know, in the last couple of years. You know,
- 18:58Speaker 13: Holman's called plays in the spring game. Each year, there's
- 19:01Speaker 13: been parts of practice where Homan is called plays. You know,
- 19:05Speaker 13: it's it's not him calling plays. It's not brand new,
- 19:08Speaker 13: it's just brand new being in this role. And so absolutely,
- 19:11Speaker 13: I think there's parts of that that you can do.
- 19:13Speaker 13: We'll probably do a little bit more unscripted stuff this
- 19:17Speaker 13: spring situationally, just because I think those are the those
- 19:21Speaker 13: are the harder ones, you know, those those two minute drills.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Those and a half situations.
- 19:26Speaker 13: As a play caller, those are the situations I always
- 19:29Speaker 13: wanted to be in the most when I was still
- 19:31Speaker 13: trying to, you know, figure out those calls and how
- 19:34Speaker 13: that part of the game would go. And so we'll
- 19:35Speaker 13: probably do a little bit more unscripted stuff at times
- 19:37Speaker 13: this spring for both guys, both coordinators. But yeah, it's
- 19:42Speaker 13: not like it's new that we've been doing that since
- 19:44Speaker 13: we got here a little bit fro.
- 19:46Speaker 16: Left Tony obviously year three in your program, a lot
- 19:49Speaker 16: of guys have been here from the start. But for
- 19:51Speaker 16: some of the new editions and freshmen, how important is
- 19:54Speaker 16: the spring evaluation process to kind of get them in
- 19:57Speaker 16: and working the way that you want to and your
- 19:59Speaker 16: staff and just how important is that and how much
- 20:01Speaker 16: does that carry over into the fall?
- 20:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's it's everything.
- 20:04Speaker 13: I think every spring, regardless of where you are, you
- 20:08Speaker 13: start from ground zero, you know, and whether you're a
- 20:11Speaker 13: returning player, and we've talked a lot about this, whether
- 20:13Speaker 13: you're a returning.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Player, an up and coming player, a new player.
- 20:17Speaker 13: There's a lot of people that want to see their
- 20:19Speaker 13: name in the starting eleven when we go line up
- 20:21Speaker 13: next year against Missouri State, and that all starts now,
- 20:25Speaker 13: and our job as coaches is to create an environment
- 20:28Speaker 13: where that's real. You know, a lot of people talk
- 20:31Speaker 13: about competition and talk about opening up jobs, but if
- 20:35Speaker 13: you don't really mean it, the players will know and
- 20:38Speaker 13: then you'll never get it to where you want to go.
- 20:40Speaker 13: We legitimately have, you know, by graduation and by a
- 20:44Speaker 13: lot of the incoming players that we've brought in here,
- 20:46Speaker 13: so much competition for what the starting jobs will look like,
- 20:51Speaker 13: what the opportunities to get on the field will look like.
- 20:54Speaker 5: That you really hope.
- 20:55Speaker 13: That that that is just at the teap core of
- 20:58Speaker 13: everything that we do.
- 20:59Speaker 5: And so yeah, looking forward to seeing what that looks like.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Second row, back over to Alex.
- 21:05Speaker 14: Just curious with Marcell just what are some of the
- 21:07Speaker 14: prerogatives that you guys are really kind of getting with
- 21:11Speaker 14: him this offseason to continue his progression pursuit of a
- 21:14Speaker 14: championship level quarterback.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 13: I think, you know, he now has a full season
- 21:19Speaker 13: under his belt. I think he's been through the ringer.
- 21:22Speaker 13: You know, he's got you know, I don't know what
- 21:24Speaker 13: is it now, eighteen, probably close to career starts, and
- 21:27Speaker 13: so I think that allows you to really kind of
- 21:31Speaker 13: hone in on him. You know, last year, even though
- 21:33Speaker 13: he had played some, there were still a lot of
- 21:36Speaker 13: situations that he himself hadn't been in, and so you
- 21:38Speaker 13: were still talking about other you know, watching other people,
- 21:41Speaker 13: watching other people do things with him, You're now watching
- 21:44Speaker 13: him execute all the plays. You're watching him execute situations,
- 21:47Speaker 13: you're watching him make decisions, and so when you do that,
- 21:50Speaker 13: you're really able to kind of specify the plan to him.
- 21:54Speaker 5: He spent a lot of time with Coach Lynch.
- 21:56Speaker 13: You're doing a lot of things one on one in
- 21:58Speaker 13: the mornings, in and around work outs where he's just
- 22:01Speaker 13: coming up and doing a lot of extra film work,
- 22:03Speaker 13: and a lot of that is just his mechanics, his
- 22:05Speaker 13: decision making, his processing, what is he seeing, what is
- 22:08Speaker 13: he feeling, which I think takes it to another level
- 22:12Speaker 13: because you're not talking about you know what if scenarios anymore.
- 22:16Speaker 13: You're really fine tuning scenarios that he's actually lived through
- 22:19Speaker 13: and been through, and so I think that helps you
- 22:22Speaker 13: know and hopefully ultimately again what we're looking for is
- 22:24Speaker 13: just him consistently being at his best more more often.
- 22:28Speaker 14: I'm just curious, as you guys maybe had a chance
- 22:30Speaker 14: to go back and watch some of the tape from
- 22:32Speaker 14: last year, especially late in the season, just how do
- 22:35Speaker 14: you go about or was there any kind of a
- 22:38Speaker 14: common thread maybe in some of the late turnovers that
- 22:40Speaker 14: he had late in the season, And just how do
- 22:43Speaker 14: you go about maybe correcting some of those as he
- 22:45Speaker 14: continues to progress forward.
- 22:46Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, I think part of it is chasing games.
- 22:49Speaker 13: I think you want to you got to avoid chasing games.
- 22:52Speaker 13: That certainly was some of it, you know. I think
- 22:54Speaker 13: the end of the first half at South Carolina, the
- 22:57Speaker 13: end of the game at Texas, when you put yourself
- 23:00Speaker 13: in positions where the quarterback feels like he has to
- 23:04Speaker 13: make plays because he's chasing the game, that's never a
- 23:07Speaker 13: good feeling and a good situation.
- 23:08Speaker 5: So that I think is part of it.
- 23:11Speaker 13: Part of it is just him again being a little
- 23:14Speaker 13: bit more comfortable visually and seeing things and knowing what
- 23:18Speaker 13: that means, you know, knowing you know, I see this,
- 23:21Speaker 13: So that means I've got to do this, and and
- 23:23Speaker 13: my body and my feet got to work with my
- 23:25Speaker 13: mechanics the right way to deliver the ball where it's
- 23:27Speaker 13: got to go.
- 23:27Speaker 5: But that's probably it.
- 23:30Speaker 9: Fro right, Carter, Speaking of quarterbacks, what stood out to
- 23:34Speaker 9: you about Joey Lynch and why you wanted to bring
- 23:36Speaker 9: him on the staff initially and then why did he
- 23:39Speaker 9: make sense? What do you think he'll bring to the
- 23:40Speaker 9: table as a quarterbacks coach?
- 23:42Speaker 13: Yeah, I think Obviously a lot of past connections are
- 23:46Speaker 13: what got him here.
- 23:47Speaker 5: I knew a lot of people who had worked with
- 23:49Speaker 5: him knew him.
- 23:50Speaker 13: He obviously had experience as a play caller in the
- 23:53Speaker 13: SEC and working with quarterbacks in the SEC, and so
- 23:57Speaker 13: that was what got him here two years ago. He's
- 23:59Speaker 13: been a great staff fit for us for two years,
- 24:02Speaker 13: doing a lot of work behind the scenes. He's been
- 24:04Speaker 13: a big part of what we've done on offense. He's
- 24:07Speaker 13: had multiple opportunities to go elsewhere as either a coordinator
- 24:10Speaker 13: or a quarterback coach, and he's been able to have
- 24:14Speaker 13: been able to hold on to him and keep him
- 24:15Speaker 13: here through a lot of that and so and then
- 24:18Speaker 13: I think what you get from him is a guy
- 24:21Speaker 13: who is quarterback centric.
- 24:24Speaker 5: And everything he does.
- 24:25Speaker 13: I was talking to somebody about this yesterday, and this
- 24:28Speaker 13: is not you know, it just is what it is.
- 24:30Speaker 5: You know, his only job is quarterbacks.
- 24:32Speaker 13: You know, he doesn't have to plan practice, he doesn't
- 24:34Speaker 13: have to plan staff meetings, he doesn't have to get
- 24:37Speaker 13: ready for installed, he doesn't have to He just literally
- 24:40Speaker 13: has to spend every minute of every day thinking about
- 24:43Speaker 13: how to make our quarterback better. And I think there's
- 24:46Speaker 13: something to that I think there's a huge benefit that
- 24:49Speaker 13: Marcel is feeling because of that, because it's literally all
- 24:52Speaker 13: he's doing right now is focused on that one position.
- 24:55Speaker 13: And so again that's not meant to be anything. That's
- 24:59Speaker 13: just the situation we're in now. It's been really good.
- 25:03Speaker 9: And with Holman, you know, he's technically not it doesn't
- 25:06Speaker 9: have a title that oversees a position. But I assume
- 25:09Speaker 9: he'll probably be around the receivers a lot. But how
- 25:12Speaker 9: will that differ than maybe a typical OC who's over
- 25:15Speaker 9: quarterbacks or a particular position.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Yeah, so I think it's a combination of two things.
- 25:20Speaker 5: One obviously, he's still going to be heavily involved with
- 25:22Speaker 5: wide receivers. I've said this to a lot of I
- 25:24Speaker 5: said this to a lot of recruits.
- 25:27Speaker 13: You know, for a long time, I was the defensive
- 25:29Speaker 13: coordinator and we gave the safety's title to other people.
- 25:33Speaker 13: But if you ask any of those safeties who coached them,
- 25:36Speaker 13: they would say I was heavily.
- 25:37Speaker 5: Involved in what they did.
- 25:38Speaker 13: And that's not the disrespect to any of the coaches
- 25:40Speaker 13: who had that title. That's just kind of what happens
- 25:42Speaker 13: when you get to that stage. I think we have
- 25:45Speaker 13: a lot of respect for John Perry.
- 25:46Speaker 5: What he does.
- 25:47Speaker 13: He brings tremendous value to the wide receiver room. He's
- 25:50Speaker 13: a phenomenal wide receiver coach. Our guys love him. But
- 25:54Speaker 13: Holman's still going to be a piece of that. But
- 25:57Speaker 13: I also think part of it, too, is is kind
- 26:00Speaker 13: of a new way of thinking about college staffs. You know,
- 26:03Speaker 13: we talked about this a little bit, like dropping the
- 26:06Speaker 13: parameters of who can coach, who can be on the field.
- 26:10Speaker 13: It's not by accident that neither one of our coordinators
- 26:14Speaker 13: has a specific meeting room to run because I think
- 26:19Speaker 13: you can now, I think you can hire extra coaches
- 26:21Speaker 13: because you don't have that.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Ten coach limit to who can be on the field coaching.
- 26:26Speaker 13: And so if you can go out and add your
- 26:29Speaker 13: home and plus a wide receiver coach who's got years
- 26:32Speaker 13: of experience seven in the NFL, if you can have
- 26:35Speaker 13: Lyyle Hemphill plus Ishmael Aristide and Paul Williams and Brian Gross, like,
- 26:40Speaker 13: you're just adding depth and value to your coaching staff.
- 26:43Speaker 5: And I think that just makes a ton of sense
- 26:45Speaker 5: with the way the rules are structured.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Now, interesting comments from coach Elco We will here in
- 26:54Speaker 4: the probably next week because we don't have but one
- 26:58Speaker 4: day left in this show tomorrow from Hoban Wiggins and
- 27:03Speaker 4: from Brian Hemphill. They both met with the media today
- 27:08Speaker 4: the new coordinators that it's just it's so interesting to
- 27:12Speaker 4: hear how they're dividing up responsibility because there's extra coaches
- 27:17Speaker 4: now and they're not limited right like he said, we
- 27:21Speaker 4: can only have ten coaches on the field or so
- 27:24Speaker 4: my point is it's going to look like a basketball bitch.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Have you noticed now there's three rows of seats for
- 27:32Speaker 4: everybody that's on the basketball staff. There used to be
- 27:36Speaker 4: a head coach and assistant and the trainer, right, they'd
- 27:41Speaker 4: all sit on the front row. Now there's about forty. Okay,
- 27:45Speaker 4: you've got analysts. It's like football. You've got analysts. You've
- 27:51Speaker 4: got guys that are the iPad specialists that say, hey,
- 27:55Speaker 4: we need to challenge that out of balanced play or whatever,
- 27:59Speaker 4: or that was a hook and hold. You probably have
- 28:03Speaker 4: one that is looking for in case there's an out
- 28:09Speaker 4: of bounce that's challenged against you, one that's out of
- 28:14Speaker 4: bounce challenged for you. One hook and hold, same way,
- 28:18Speaker 4: both both directions. There's a coach for everything. There's the
- 28:24Speaker 4: gatorade coach. I think there's the water coach, and sometimes
- 28:30Speaker 4: they fight it out. Hey he needs gatorade. No, he
- 28:33Speaker 4: just had gatorade. I'm giving him water. So there's about
- 28:37Speaker 4: forty of those guys on the bench now, and you
- 28:39Speaker 4: have about three rows of seats behind them, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 4: all wearing You can tell most of them wearing coats
- 28:47Speaker 4: and ties, right except for the three quarter zip. Then
- 28:51Speaker 4: they're wearing that. Oh did he pounce on his head?
- 28:54Speaker 4: Did he miss him? That mutton busted man? That gets tough.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Hopefully he missed him. Well, that's good. That would have
- 29:04Speaker 4: been dangerous. Hey, no one said mutton busting was easy,
- 29:08Speaker 4: especially for those first time kids. I digress. I was
- 29:14Speaker 4: talking about all the coaches now in basketball and in football.
- 29:19Speaker 5: It's crazy.
- 29:21Speaker 1: But yet yet.
- 29:25Speaker 4: We need more money. Gotta have more money. We don't
- 29:29Speaker 4: have enough money. Our budget is not high enough. Got
- 29:37Speaker 4: to have more money. Got to hire ten more coaches,
- 29:42Speaker 4: got to pay eighty players.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 29:47Speaker 4: No wonder saying ki if for twoty are fighting it out,
- 29:51Speaker 4: I know it's patiting. Okay, we're gonna take a break.

- 33:18Speaker 20: I'm Caleb Rapley, and today we're jumping out to the
- 33:21Speaker 20: Polaris Fun Center phone line to visit with the head
- 33:24Speaker 20: coach of the Mumford Mustangs baseball team, mister Aaron Thomas, coach,
- 33:28Speaker 20: thanks for joining me today.
- 33:30Speaker 21: Thanks sure having me.
- 33:31Speaker 20: So your Mumford team coming off of a great season
- 33:35Speaker 20: twenty one and seven, winning the district last year, area
- 33:39Speaker 20: finalists in the playoffs, looks like you bring back a
- 33:42Speaker 20: lot of experience.
- 33:43Speaker 19: So what have you seen from your team so far
- 33:45Speaker 19: this year?
- 33:46Speaker 21: Well, yeah, as you know, we had a really good
- 33:49Speaker 21: run in basketball and finished a week ago yesterday in basketball.
- 33:55Speaker 4: And.
- 33:58Speaker 21: About half of our team was on that back basketball
- 34:00Speaker 21: team and so they've gotten to play two games together,
- 34:03Speaker 21: so I I haven't gotten to see too much. But
- 34:07Speaker 21: what I have seen is is in those two games
- 34:11Speaker 21: is a bunch of experience, a bunch of guys that
- 34:15Speaker 21: that can step right in from from playing and then
- 34:19Speaker 21: join the other guys that have been in the off
- 34:21Speaker 21: season and then just get right down to business and
- 34:23Speaker 21: get after it.
- 34:24Speaker 20: Yes, sir, I did interview coach King of the basketball
- 34:27Speaker 20: program last week, So congratulations again to the Mustangs on
- 34:31Speaker 20: their great run. They're at a two A program like Mumford,
- 34:34Speaker 20: which is you know, well known for being being very
- 34:37Speaker 20: successful in multiple sports. But how different, how difficult does
- 34:41Speaker 20: that make your job, as you know, the baseball coach
- 34:44Speaker 20: having to adjust to having a different team at the
- 34:47Speaker 20: start of the year than you do, you know about
- 34:49Speaker 20: a month.
- 34:49Speaker 21: In Well, I am an assistant basketball coach, so I sow,
- 34:54Speaker 21: I'm I'm pretty much just stepped out the likeily, I
- 34:57Speaker 21: have a really good assistant baseball coach pretty much is
- 35:01Speaker 21: the head for most of the year. Uh until I decide, oh,
- 35:05Speaker 21: now I'm gonna come out and come out and be
- 35:07Speaker 21: a part of the team. But but yeah, uh, it's
- 35:12Speaker 21: it's it's it's not really a challenge at all for
- 35:16Speaker 21: for for these kids we were used to it. I
- 35:18Speaker 21: believe that the success in basketball carries over uh to
- 35:22Speaker 21: the baseball side of things, and so and so it's
- 35:28Speaker 21: just a program wide thing and and and those kids
- 35:31Speaker 21: know how to win usually that come over and then
- 35:35Speaker 21: and then they just bring that culture with them. But
- 35:39Speaker 21: also what's really nice about not having some of those
- 35:43Speaker 21: kids is we get to answer some questions early on
- 35:48Speaker 21: in these tournaments that we play when we're without our
- 35:51Speaker 21: you know, one, two, three, four hitters, and so we
- 35:54Speaker 21: get to gain some experience. We get time on the
- 35:57Speaker 21: mound for guys that usually wouldn't be pitching, and then
- 36:00Speaker 21: I get answer some questions like who's going to plug
- 36:03Speaker 21: in these positions and so and so it's a fantastic
- 36:06Speaker 21: problem to have because we can look at it from
- 36:09Speaker 21: a standpoint of, all right, you guys are going to
- 36:12Speaker 21: get the experience, and you're going to get the opportunity
- 36:14Speaker 21: to show that you can step in and compete. And
- 36:16Speaker 21: so it's kind of a kind of blessing and a curse.
- 36:19Speaker 21: But it really, I believe is what has helped our
- 36:24Speaker 21: program stay strong for the last you know, six years
- 36:29Speaker 21: or so, so y'all.
- 36:30Speaker 20: Do have, like I mentioned earlier, a lot of starters returning,
- 36:33Speaker 20: which are now I guess just really returning to the
- 36:36Speaker 20: team as you mentioned.
- 36:38Speaker 19: But who are some of the guys.
- 36:39Speaker 20: I know every year there's seniors that you have to replace,
- 36:42Speaker 20: So who are some of the new players that have
- 36:44Speaker 20: stepped up and helped you fill that void?
- 36:46Speaker 21: Well, it's a lot of the guys that have been
- 36:50Speaker 21: there for three years or so. I've got a solid
- 36:53Speaker 21: group of seniors. I was talking to my assistant today
- 36:57Speaker 21: and I told them, I said, I don't know if
- 37:00Speaker 21: we've ever had top five in our lineup that is
- 37:04Speaker 21: just so dangerous. I mean, if you look at the
- 37:07Speaker 21: past five years of Mumford baseball, he won district five
- 37:11Speaker 21: years in a row, and we've been we've been really
- 37:13Speaker 21: potent on offense, but we have we have five guys
- 37:16Speaker 21: at the top of our lineup, four of them being seniors,
- 37:20Speaker 21: who at any given point can can bust the game open,
- 37:23Speaker 21: and and they are they just put so much pressure
- 37:26Speaker 21: on those on those h pitchers and and some of
- 37:30Speaker 21: those four seniors. I got to mention in my name
- 37:32Speaker 21: or guys that have been there, Braxton Zig, He's He's
- 37:36Speaker 21: a phenomenal catcher, really good. Brooks Cornett, who was our
- 37:41Speaker 21: aceh last year, probably gonna be our ace again this year.
- 37:45Speaker 21: And we got two other guys that really play some
- 37:47Speaker 21: big roles Hagen Berlin and and and uh Damien Rodriguez.
- 37:53Speaker 21: And those four seniors, you know, they're they're stepping in
- 37:57Speaker 21: and filling their own role and and and even fill
- 38:00Speaker 21: roles that were that were lost from last year by
- 38:03Speaker 21: being extra productive and big time leaders and just showing
- 38:11Speaker 21: the younger kids how to compete and how to win.
- 38:14Speaker 20: So last week you had your first two district contests,
- 38:17Speaker 20: both against Milano. Shut out Milano in both of those games,
- 38:20Speaker 20: So big wins for the Mustangs. What are your thoughts
- 38:23Speaker 20: on the district as a whole this year? You know,
- 38:25Speaker 20: have you got Burton and Iola Snook tonight. What are
- 38:29Speaker 20: some of your overarching thoughts on your competition this year?
- 38:33Speaker 21: Well, I do want to mention we we we haven't
- 38:36Speaker 21: had four home runs in a season, but we had
- 38:39Speaker 21: four home runs in a row last Friday night. And
- 38:43Speaker 21: amongst those four seniors, they went back to back to
- 38:46Speaker 21: back to back in the game against Milano in the
- 38:51Speaker 21: first inning and it was it was truly impressive, and
- 38:55Speaker 21: it makes me proud as a coach to see those kids.
- 38:57Speaker 21: But as a whole, our district is really competitive. You know,
- 39:02Speaker 21: I felt pretty confident going into the past few years
- 39:05Speaker 21: that we would have a chance to win, But this
- 39:08Speaker 21: is gonna be a bigger challenge because, as you know,
- 39:09Speaker 21: Burton was a state semi finalist last year and got
- 39:14Speaker 21: third in our district and then Iola super competitive. They've
- 39:19Speaker 21: got some really good guys on the mound that that
- 39:22Speaker 21: I believe we're going to go play college somewhere. So
- 39:24Speaker 21: it's gonna be it's gonna be a battle. It's a
- 39:27Speaker 21: blessing because you get to compete in district against those
- 39:33Speaker 21: teams that could make a run and so that you
- 39:37Speaker 21: are prepared for when you inevitably make the playoffs and
- 39:41Speaker 21: have a chance to make your own run. And so
- 39:44Speaker 21: it's gonna be tough. I'd like to say, hey, we're
- 39:46Speaker 21: gonna we're gonna win the thing this year for the
- 39:48Speaker 21: sixth time in a row, but it's gonna be significantly
- 39:52Speaker 21: more difficult to do that with the level of play
- 39:57Speaker 21: and competition that our district has this year, especially with
- 40:00Speaker 21: Iowa and Burton, and how how good of a program
- 40:03Speaker 21: they have and how how strong those kids are.
- 40:07Speaker 20: Absolutely, District twenty six has definitely been a tough one
- 40:10Speaker 20: the last couple of years.
- 40:12Speaker 19: It's a lot of fun to watch.
- 40:14Speaker 20: And finally taking on snook here this afternoon, what are
- 40:19Speaker 20: your thoughts on that game?
- 40:21Speaker 21: Well, again, we're we're kind of green into some things.
- 40:23Speaker 21: I wish the wind was blowing out today, but it's
- 40:26Speaker 21: it never does in Mumford. It always blows in. If
- 40:28Speaker 21: the wind blows out, I feel like we're the more
- 40:30Speaker 21: potent offensive team. They they got a bunch of young guys.
- 40:35Speaker 21: They got a really good coach over there, super nice guy,
- 40:38Speaker 21: and the assistant coach, a couple of assistant coaches that
- 40:41Speaker 21: really know what they're doing too, and and work hard
- 40:44Speaker 21: with their kids. You know, at Mumford, if you don't
- 40:48Speaker 21: hit line drives, it doesn't matter who you play against.
- 40:51Speaker 21: When the wind's blowing in. The balls really easy to
- 40:54Speaker 21: make a play on being the turf and and and
- 41:00Speaker 21: the way the wind blows. But but I would I
- 41:03Speaker 21: would say it's gonna be a tough It's gonna be
- 41:05Speaker 21: a tough competition tonight because they have significantly improved. I
- 41:09Speaker 21: would hope we come out and handle business the way
- 41:12Speaker 21: we're supposed to, especially with those top four. And then
- 41:16Speaker 21: I'm throwing my ace tonight, which is Brooks Cornett, which
- 41:19Speaker 21: you know he's he's not had a bat outing this year.
- 41:22Speaker 21: He's given up some runs, but a lot of those
- 41:25Speaker 21: runs he gave up when when we core missing four
- 41:29Speaker 21: starters and some key defensive positions. So I feel pretty confident.
- 41:35Speaker 21: I don't want to, I don't want to say over confident,
- 41:37Speaker 21: but I like our chances tonight.
- 41:39Speaker 20: All right, coach, Well, thanks again for your time today,
- 41:42Speaker 20: good luck in today's game and throughout the season.
- 41:46Speaker 21: All right, thank you very much.

- 46:48Speaker 4: on our partner station sixteen twenty wta W and televised
- 46:54Speaker 4: on True TV.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Here is Ryland Griffin.
- 46:58Speaker 23: Oh, waiting to see that Texas A and M.
- 47:01Speaker 5: Come up there.
- 47:02Speaker 13: Uh.
- 47:02Speaker 28: I feel like every year like my team always the
- 47:05Speaker 28: last team. Like, uh, last year we were on the
- 47:07Speaker 28: last we were in the last bracket. The year before
- 47:10Speaker 28: we were in the last bracket. So I just grown
- 47:12Speaker 28: to get used to it at this point.
- 47:15Speaker 5: You for you know about Saint Mary's.
- 47:17Speaker 28: Oh, they're big, they're physical. They played Bama last year.
- 47:21Speaker 10: And uh.
- 47:22Speaker 28: One of my best friends from Beam he told me
- 47:23Speaker 28: that they're just big, they play physical.
- 47:25Speaker 10: I haven't watched too much of them.
- 47:27Speaker 28: Think they beat Gonzaga once this year, so it'll be
- 47:30Speaker 28: a tough matchup. Any game, and uh, at this time
- 47:33Speaker 28: of the year's a tough matchup.
- 47:35Speaker 5: Staying in the South.
- 47:36Speaker 19: How does it feel able to go to Oklahoma City?
- 47:38Speaker 10: I feel good. It's a familiar place.
- 47:40Speaker 28: It won't be a far flight, So we should have
- 47:43Speaker 28: good fans and stuff like that. We should be able
- 47:45Speaker 28: to we should be ready to play. It shouldn't be
- 47:47Speaker 28: no travel issues or anything like that. Just quick forty
- 47:50Speaker 28: five minute flight. Hopefully our fans make it out there,
- 47:53Speaker 28: and hopefully we get two wins down there.
- 47:54Speaker 29: Put this message to the fans.
- 47:57Speaker 28: Uh, just come out, like you don't want to take
- 47:59Speaker 28: tournament games for granted, it's not a guarantee that every
- 48:02Speaker 28: program makes the tournament. So even if you you know,
- 48:05Speaker 28: you think that's the expectation of your program, sometimes you
- 48:08Speaker 28: know things don't happen, so you definitely want to be
- 48:12Speaker 28: here to not so I would say, like I'd rather
- 48:14Speaker 28: I hope they come out just because you never knowing
- 48:17Speaker 28: you know, you got this opportunity again beyond.
- 48:20Speaker 5: The excitement of getting any term each other. You tell y'all,
- 48:23Speaker 5: mean you really doing?
- 48:25Speaker 29: What's the mindset that you making this team after?
- 48:28Speaker 13: You know, I know y'all don't feel like y'all you know,
- 48:31Speaker 13: playing as well as y'all can in your last game.
- 48:34Speaker 5: So is this Uh yeah, I'll go back on Deternament.
- 48:39Speaker 10: After that game, Oh, we feel pretty good.
- 48:41Speaker 28: We had two good practices in between after that game.
- 48:45Speaker 28: So I feel like that game was just a learning Listen.
- 48:48Speaker 28: I'm not gonna take too much from it. I mean,
- 48:50Speaker 28: there's a lot of things that happen in that game
- 48:53Speaker 28: that we need to clean up, and that's all we
- 48:54Speaker 28: need to do. We need to just come back and
- 48:56Speaker 28: clean it up. I feel like we'll be fine when
- 48:58Speaker 28: we get out there and ready to play. You know,
- 49:00Speaker 28: those type games that we just played it. I don't
- 49:02Speaker 28: take too much into them, just because.
- 49:05Speaker 10: Sometimes you just have a bad night, sometimes it's a
- 49:07Speaker 10: bad day in the office.
- 49:08Speaker 28: One of my friends, she's a teacher, and she was
- 49:10Speaker 28: telling me that, you know, one of the kids, or
- 49:12Speaker 28: there was a bunch of kids actually that were being
- 49:14Speaker 28: disrespectful and talking over and being loud in class and
- 49:18Speaker 28: stuff like that, and to me, that just reminded me
- 49:20Speaker 28: of basketball. It's kind of the same thing. That's a
- 49:22Speaker 28: bad day. You can't control it. You couldn't. We could
- 49:24Speaker 28: control our effor, but we couldn't control with the ball
- 49:26Speaker 28: win in the hooper not that night. So just a
- 49:28Speaker 28: bad day at the office. So we just gotta make
- 49:30Speaker 28: sure that we don't have anymore though the rest of
- 49:32Speaker 28: the season.
- 49:35Speaker 29: Like you said after the last game too, that there
- 49:37Speaker 29: was it was just the first time a lot of
- 49:38Speaker 29: these guys had kind of been in that big time
- 49:40Speaker 29: tournament experience. Do you feel like that lesson was kind
- 49:43Speaker 29: of learned after that game and we can take that
- 49:46Speaker 29: into this tournament.
- 49:47Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, Yeah, it's gonna be a different level. Though.
- 49:49Speaker 28: The SEC tournament is just like an advertiser to the
- 49:51Speaker 28: NCAA tournament. So glad we got all that out of
- 49:54Speaker 28: the system. I'm honestly glad we had a game like
- 49:56Speaker 28: that out of our system so we can knock it
- 49:57Speaker 28: out before we, you know, get into the real thing.
- 50:00Speaker 28: So just making sure we're ready, making sure we're sharp,
- 50:03Speaker 28: getting in the gym and getting ready to play a
- 50:05Speaker 28: tough team on Thursday is gonna be the main focus
- 50:08Speaker 28: for right now.
- 50:09Speaker 5: You know you're a better to me. I've been seen
- 50:11Speaker 5: LA tournaments.
- 50:12Speaker 26: Is there any words of wisdoms that you feel like
- 50:15Speaker 26: you have to to share with the guys on this
- 50:17Speaker 26: team that may.
- 50:19Speaker 28: Just do what you do that got you to get
- 50:21Speaker 28: you there. It doesn't matter. You don't need to change
- 50:24Speaker 28: how you play. You don't need to change like really anything.
- 50:27Speaker 28: You need to do what you did to get there.
- 50:28Speaker 28: And there's gonna be a lot of different matchups that
- 50:30Speaker 28: we see. We're gonna see a lot of teams that
- 50:32Speaker 28: we haven't seen, so that's good. New faces we playing
- 50:35Speaker 28: new faces and new personnel and stuff like that. So
- 50:37Speaker 28: I think it'll be fun. The film has to be
- 50:40Speaker 28: better because you don't have much time to study for
- 50:41Speaker 28: these teams, so we have to watch a lot more film,
- 50:44Speaker 28: and we have to grasp the idea of what these
- 50:46Speaker 28: teams are trying to do to us and make sure
- 50:48Speaker 28: that we don't let them do it easily.
- 50:50Speaker 16: To that point, you put that better into the ability there.
- 50:53Speaker 16: What can you tell about the experienced game day getting
- 50:55Speaker 16: ready for it to guys that have not been in
- 50:57Speaker 16: that situation?
- 50:59Speaker 10: Oh, just don't be tight.
- 51:00Speaker 28: You know one thing I feel is like you can
- 51:01Speaker 28: always since when the team is tight.
- 51:03Speaker 13: Uh.
- 51:03Speaker 28: I feel like when uh my sophomore year we played Carolina,
- 51:06Speaker 28: they woulda one seed, we would afforesee. I could feel
- 51:09Speaker 28: that they were tight as soon as we started the game.
- 51:11Speaker 28: So that's one thing you don't wanna do. You don't
- 51:14Speaker 28: want any team to be able to smell blood on you.
- 51:16Speaker 28: You wanna be able to be the one that smell
- 51:18Speaker 28: blood on other teams. So just don't play tight. Just
- 51:20Speaker 28: come out there and play focused and uh, play hard
- 51:23Speaker 28: and do all the things that you did to get here,
- 51:25Speaker 28: like I said earlier, and everything else will take care
- 51:27Speaker 28: of itself.
- 51:28Speaker 10: How would you.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Judge where y'all left y'all selects are at?
- 51:30Speaker 9: And how much health does it have to have a
- 51:33Speaker 9: whole week off big enough to.
- 51:34Speaker 10: This it helps.
- 51:35Speaker 28: I mean, everybody's nicked up at this time of year.
- 51:37Speaker 28: Everybody's got some fatigue and body soreness and stuff like that.
- 51:41Speaker 28: But nobody's gonna listen to that as an excuse if
- 51:44Speaker 28: you lose a game. So you know, we just gotta
- 51:46Speaker 28: act like it's not there if it is for some people,
- 51:49Speaker 28: and come out on Thursday and be ready to go
- 51:51Speaker 28: and have good practices leading up until the.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Plase last three games, so you can you really stepped
- 51:56Speaker 5: it up.
- 51:57Speaker 7: What what do you think's been working for you?
- 51:58Speaker 9: And and and how great is it's gonna be entering
- 52:01Speaker 9: March with momento March Madison tam was.
- 52:04Speaker 10: Just playing more aggressive.
- 52:05Speaker 28: I feel like last game was actually like probably one
- 52:08Speaker 28: of my worst games I played, just due to the
- 52:10Speaker 28: defense and the energy level.
- 52:11Speaker 10: It wasn't anywhere near it was supposed to be.
- 52:13Speaker 28: So you know, I'm definitely really really mad about that,
- 52:16Speaker 28: and I'm ready to get out there and play harder
- 52:18Speaker 28: and have a better game because last game, I was
- 52:21Speaker 28: really really upset with how I finished the game, and
- 52:24Speaker 28: I know I can do better than that, and I
- 52:26Speaker 28: know that's what I'm trying to do for the next game.
- 52:28Speaker 28: So just knowing that, you know, I made I had
- 52:31Speaker 28: a bad game. It just made a ton of mistakes
- 52:34Speaker 28: that game. Wasn't all the way focused in that game,
- 52:36Speaker 28: and just getting ready for the next game and being
- 52:38Speaker 28: one hundred percent focused and one hundred percent locked into
- 52:41Speaker 28: all the winning things.
- 52:43Speaker 17: Well kind of excitement and energy goes into this time
- 52:46Speaker 17: of year.
- 52:46Speaker 21: Getting to play in the.
- 52:47Speaker 2: March Madus tournament.
- 52:48Speaker 10: Oh, it's exciting.
- 52:49Speaker 28: I mean, there's a lot of teams that don't get
- 52:51Speaker 28: to get into the tournament and play. I mean there
- 52:54Speaker 28: was even some good teams that got left out. I
- 52:56Speaker 28: mean I felt like Oklahoma was making a big run
- 52:58Speaker 28: right there at the end and they were first four out,
- 53:00Speaker 28: so I mean, they would definitely want to switch places
- 53:02Speaker 28: with us. So we got to just be thankful this
- 53:04Speaker 28: opportunity and we got to take advantage of it. We
- 53:07Speaker 28: gotta try to win games, and you know, just we
- 53:10Speaker 28: had an early exit in SEC tournament, but all that
- 53:12Speaker 28: stuff is gonna be forgotten if we do it good
- 53:16Speaker 28: in March. That's one thing I've learned since being in college.
- 53:19Speaker 28: So nothing really matters until March starts. So try to
- 53:22Speaker 28: make a good March and you get remember for what
- 53:24Speaker 28: you did in March, not what you did anytime before that.
- 53:28Speaker 10: So that's the goal for me and the team.
- 53:30Speaker 29: When you think back to when y'all all first kind
- 53:32Speaker 29: of got together and I just talked a lot about
- 53:33Speaker 29: how you know this this team has picked from all
- 53:36Speaker 29: kinds of different parts of the of the country. When
- 53:39Speaker 29: did you feel like that maybe today hearing your name
- 53:42Speaker 29: called could be an expectation from one of that, it.
- 53:46Speaker 5: Was kind of all pieced together.
- 53:48Speaker 28: I feel like since the start a conference play, we
- 53:50Speaker 28: really churned it up an to start a conference play,
- 53:53Speaker 28: we were really playing connected basketball, playing our best basketball
- 53:56Speaker 28: at the time. So ever since then, I expected the tournament.
- 53:59Speaker 28: If we didn't make the tournament, I was gonna be
- 54:02Speaker 28: very very disappointed and thought it was gonna be an
- 54:05Speaker 28: unsuccessful and disappointed season. And to be honest, it's gonna
- 54:07Speaker 28: be unsuccessful to me unless we make a run at
- 54:10Speaker 28: the end. So you know, that's my biggest focus right now.
- 54:12Speaker 28: And like I said earlier, all that stuff, you know,
- 54:15Speaker 28: you have ups and down star at the season.
- 54:17Speaker 10: Everybody restarts in March.
- 54:18Speaker 28: Everybody's zero on zero, nobody's averaging anything cause it's you know,
- 54:22Speaker 28: it's a new season right now for everybody. So that's
- 54:24Speaker 28: one thing that we gotta know because they gonna come
- 54:26Speaker 28: with the much of energy and there's no redos this time.
- 54:30Speaker 10: So we just gotta come out and give it our
- 54:31Speaker 10: best every night.
- 54:33Speaker 29: And as players, what does it mean to give this
- 54:35Speaker 29: staff insitionnament birth in their first season here?
- 54:38Speaker 10: Oh it feels good.
- 54:39Speaker 28: Just something I hope they can build on in the future.
- 54:42Speaker 28: Just know that a like, we can win here and
- 54:44Speaker 28: we can make runs here. Hopefully this is the last
- 54:47Speaker 28: I mean, hopefully this is the worst seating they get,
- 54:49Speaker 28: and hopefully this is the worst. Well, yeah, hopefully this
- 54:53Speaker 28: is the worst seating they get. Hopefully they get top
- 54:55Speaker 28: three four seeds every every single year from now on.
- 54:58Speaker 28: But you know, first year, fourteen new guys, ten seed
- 55:01Speaker 28: is probably about what I expected, just because you know,
- 55:05Speaker 28: new coach, new guys, and I'm very very happy about that.
- 55:08Speaker 28: But hopefully, like anybody else that comes your nose like
- 55:12Speaker 28: this isn't really the standard. The standard is really like
- 55:14Speaker 28: top three, top four seeds. So I hope they are
- 55:17Speaker 28: able to do that in the future.
- 55:19Speaker 4: So Rolin Griffin, he has been to the tournament a
- 55:21Speaker 4: few times. Unlike most of his teammates. Marble Craft has
- 55:27Speaker 4: been part of our community for over a quarter of

- 55:46Speaker 4: do with granted countertops and courts, and you know you
- 55:51Speaker 4: already know this, but nothing is going to increase the
- 55:53Speaker 4: value of your existing home, like redoing your kitchen, redoing
- 55:58Speaker 4: your baths. And Joe or Sac and his staff make
- 56:01Speaker 4: that happen every single day. It's what they do. They
- 56:06Speaker 4: have an impeccable reputation in town. They have done thousands
- 56:11Speaker 4: of these all over the area. They continue to do
- 56:15Speaker 4: it every single day. They will make it happen from
- 56:19Speaker 4: start to finish. Call them what putting it off? Make
- 56:23Speaker 4: the call. They will come out, give you an estimate.
