- 0:05Speaker 2: It is four degrees in Metro on this Sunday morning.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm Brian Medore. There are fatalities and injuries at CFB
- 0:12Speaker 2: Wainwright in Alberta after a fire and explosion in the
- 0:16Speaker 2: training area of the military base. The fire is now
- 0:19Speaker 2: under control, but we do not have any numbers on
- 0:22Speaker 2: fatalities and injuries. A hospital in Wainwright and hospitals in
- 0:27Speaker 2: the city of Edmonton, about 200 kilometres away, are said
- 0:31Speaker 2: to be overwhelmed. The fire started at about 4 o'clock
- 0:35Speaker 2: Saturday afternoon local time and quickly spread. The full extent
- 0:39Speaker 2: of the impact remains unknown. The RNC have arrested a
- 0:44Speaker 2: 15-year-old in connection with the assault of a woman at
- 0:47Speaker 2: Memorial University on Friday. The victim was in an office
- 0:51Speaker 2: on campus when the assault occurred around 2 o'clock in
- 0:54Speaker 2: the afternoon. Munn notified students and staff of the incident
- 0:59Speaker 2: through its news line on Friday. RNC say the woman
- 1:03Speaker 2: was not injured. The suspect, who was not known to
- 1:06Speaker 2: the victim, had fled the scene before police arrived. Campus
- 1:09Speaker 2: security increased their patrols. A teenager was arrested on Saturday
- 1:14Speaker 2: and charged with assault with a weapon and assault by choking.
- 1:19Speaker 2: He was held in custody pending a court appearance. Police
- 1:23Speaker 2: were called in when a woman was spotted passed out
- 1:25Speaker 2: behind the wheel of her car in the area of
- 1:27Speaker 2: Merchant Drive in Mount Pearl last night. RNC were on
- 1:31Speaker 2: the scene at about 7 o'clock and arrested the woman
- 1:33Speaker 2: for impaired driving by drug, breach of a release order
- 1:37Speaker 2: and obstruction. The 40-year-old was also ticketed for driving while
- 1:41Speaker 2: suspended and having no insurance. The vehicle was impounded. The
- 1:46Speaker 2: MHA for Bell Island, concerned about a fuel shortage on
- 1:49Speaker 2: the island. Its only gas station has been without fuel
- 1:52Speaker 2: for more than a week. The owners are currently in
- 1:55Speaker 2: negotiations with the provider to try to resolve the situation.
- 1:59Speaker 2: The station reopened in July of last year after nearly
- 2:02Speaker 2: two months without fuel following a change in ownership. MHA
- 2:06Speaker 2: Fred Hutton says he has been in contact with various
- 2:09Speaker 2: government departments to find a solution to get gas and
- 2:12Speaker 2: diesel out back on the island.
- 2:15Speaker 1: You know, the thing that concerns me the most about
- 2:17Speaker 1: all this is that despite the fact that from the
- 2:19Speaker 1: shore in Portugal Cove you can see Bell Island, I mean,
- 2:22Speaker 1: essentially they're isolated. And when it comes to emergency vehicles
- 2:27Speaker 1: like ambulances and fire trucks and police vehicles over there
- 2:31Speaker 1: for the RCMP, and if you've got to get on
- 2:33Speaker 1: a ferry and spend, you know, half an hour waiting
- 2:35Speaker 1: or whatever in a perfect world, and then 20 minutes
- 2:37Speaker 1: getting over, getting your fuel and getting back, if something
- 2:40Speaker 1: happens while those vehicles are gone, that's going to be problematic.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Weather forecast, St. John's Metro, rest of the Avalon, sunny
- 2:46Speaker 2: and 7 degrees next two days with winds around 40. Central,
- 2:51Speaker 2: same thing, sunny and 7 for the next two days,
- 2:53Speaker 2: winds around 30 or 40. South Coast, sunny and 7
- 2:57Speaker 2: or 8 for the next two days with winds around 30.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And the West Coast, southwest coast, northern peninsula, showers or
- 3:03Speaker 2: flurries today and tonight, winds 40. That's your news, I'm
- 3:07Speaker 2: Brian Medore.
