- 0:36Jeff Dziekan: David.
- 0:38Don Armstrong: I'm Don Armstrong.
- 0:41Don Armstrong: Thank you very much for joining us today.
- 0:44Don Armstrong: Pardon my cough.
- 0:47Don Armstrong: But at any rate.
- 0:48Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 0:49Don Armstrong: Mars, let me ask you something.
- 0:50Don Armstrong: Yes, sir.
- 0:52Don Armstrong: When you were in school.
- 0:55Jeff Dziekan: Oof.
- 0:56Don Armstrong: I know it was a long, long time ago, and you probably don't remember, but I want you to kind of go back.
- 1:01Jeff Dziekan: Specifically third grade the fourth time.
- 1:03Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, that one.
- 1:04Don Armstrong: Third grade, and it's the end of the day.
- 1:07Don Armstrong: It's 329.
- 1:09Don Armstrong: Okay?
- 1:10Don Armstrong: School's out at 3:30.
- 1:12Don Armstrong: Were you that kid that I can remember going, oh teacher, I had one more thing before we go home for the day.
- 1:20Don Armstrong: Were you that guy that all of the class wanted to get up and kill?
- 1:26Mike Marrs: I'm holding the door open for everybody else, is what I'm doing.
- 1:30Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 1:30Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:31Don Armstrong: And then over there at the door going, oh teacher, oh, I have one more question.
- 1:36Jeff Dziekan: We're just we're just picking on you, Mike.
- 1:39Jeff Dziekan: He's picking on you, buddy.
- 1:41Don Armstrong: That's all.
- 1:42Jeff Dziekan: He's speechless.
- 1:43Jeff Dziekan: We left him speechless.
- 1:44Don Armstrong: And he's got it, he's got his head tilted to one side, like what did I do?
- 1:49Mike Marrs: No, I know.
- 1:50Mike Marrs: I know what you're talking about.
- 1:51Mike Marrs: I'm just not going to respond in public like this.
- 1:56Don Armstrong: But I noticed that you're not laughing.
- 1:58Jeff Dziekan: I know.
- 1:59Jeff Dziekan: Hey, we've all been there.
- 2:01Jeff Dziekan: We used to do that in meetings.
- 2:14Jeff Dziekan: Crazy.
- 2:15Jeff Dziekan: Anyways, fun times.
- 2:19Jeff Dziekan: Mike was still rubbing his chin.
- 2:21Don Armstrong: He wants to kill me, I think.
- 2:23Don Armstrong: I didn't know that it would upset him that bad.
- 2:26Don Armstrong: Okay, so we're gonna do some recalls so everybody can settle down.
- 2:30Don Armstrong: Um incorrect front wheel hub bolts.
- 2:37Don Armstrong: That's specifically the front wheel hub bolts.
- 2:39Don Armstrong: Okay, I know.
- 2:40Don Armstrong: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Suburban 1500, Tahoe, UConn, UConn XL for 25 and 26.
- 2:49Don Armstrong: It's being recalled for the bolts.
- 2:52Mike Marrs: I I don't understand.
- 2:53Mike Marrs: A bolt screws in, you bolt it in to something, or you put a nut on the end of it.
- 3:00Mike Marrs: How do you do that on a car and send it out the assembly line?
- 3:03Don Armstrong: Well, I don't know either, because you know you would think that all of that was inspected.
- 3:08Don Armstrong: Well, you see it wouldn't work.
- 3:11Mike Marrs: How do you if it doesn't matter?
- 3:12Don Armstrong: Well we're not talking about the nut, it'd be the bolts, so those are those are pressed in usually.
- 3:18Don Armstrong: So you're talking about a wheel stud, the stud for the wheel.
- 3:20Mike Marrs: Well, no.
- 3:22Don Armstrong: Well, yes, I don't know.
- 3:24Don Armstrong: That's well, that's yes, that's what but here in this, they're calling it an incorrect front wheel hub bolts.
- 3:31Don Armstrong: Those would be the bolts that are pressed into the rotor of the front brake.
- 3:35Don Armstrong: They're pressed in.
- 3:36Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 3:36Don Armstrong: Okay?
- 3:37Don Armstrong: Well, what would make them incorrect?
- 3:40Don Armstrong: The wrong size, or if the nut screwed on it okay, you would think it would be the length that would be the issue.
- 3:47Jeff Dziekan: It could be, but then you would notice that right off when you're putting it on.
- 3:50Jeff Dziekan: Or maybe because they're pressed in.
- 3:51Jeff Dziekan: Is it the right uh PSI, the right pressure going on?
- 3:55Don Armstrong: You're giving it way too much thought, but um, whatever.
- 3:57Mike Marrs: Well, just confusing, but go ahead.
- 3:59Mike Marrs: Just take it out.
- 4:00Mike Marrs: I don't own a cat.
- 4:00Mike Marrs: I don't own an escalate, so it matters not to me.
- 4:03Don Armstrong: Uh vehicle roll away risk, Ford Escape 2026, and the Lincoln Corsair roll away risk.
- 4:11Don Armstrong: Martha, did I just see the car leave the driveway and run down the hill?
- 4:16Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 4:17Don Armstrong: Over there at Mars House, right in front.
- 4:19Don Armstrong: We're visiting Mars.
- 4:20Mike Marrs: We're right by the window.
- 4:21Don Armstrong: Yeah, and we're is somebody driving that?
- 4:24Don Armstrong: Wait, there's nobody there.
- 4:25Jeff Dziekan: So is that your car going down the street?
- 4:27Jeff Dziekan: Exactly.
- 4:27Jeff Dziekan: Is it the Ford Escape in the what?
- 4:29Don Armstrong: Corsair.
- 4:30Don Armstrong: The LinkedIn of Corsairs on the same platform or anything.
- 4:32Don Armstrong: Yeah, they stay, they go down the same assembly line.
- 4:34Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 4:35Don Armstrong: Uh Ford Bronco.
- 4:37Jeff Dziekan: Uh-oh.
- 4:38Don Armstrong: For 21 and 22.
- 4:40Don Armstrong: Now, this is a problem that they've recalled before.
- 4:42Don Armstrong: The hard top may crack and detach.
- 4:44Don Armstrong: Oh.
- 4:44Don Armstrong: They've had problems with these tops on these Broncos.
- 4:48Don Armstrong: Now, not the Bronco sport, but the Bronco, the one that comes off.
- 4:51Don Armstrong: Right.
- 4:52Don Armstrong: And I remember the the first recall was the fact that the color was fading.
- 4:56Jeff Dziekan: The gel coat or whatever they call that.
- 4:58Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 4:58Don Armstrong: I I don't know how they did it, but whatever.
- 5:00Jeff Dziekan: I'm interested to think that what parts of the country?
- 5:03Jeff Dziekan: Is it colder winter areas?
- 5:05Jeff Dziekan: Is it uh areas where it can delaminate like in Arizona?
- 5:08Jeff Dziekan: I mean, that's they don't give that information.
- 5:13Don Armstrong: Sunbaked.
- 5:14Don Armstrong: They've had nothing but problems with those tops.
- 5:16Don Armstrong: Uh seatbelt warning system malfunction.
- 5:19Don Armstrong: Land Rover, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover V Lar for 2026.
- 5:25Jeff Dziekan: Is that the electric one?
- 5:26Jeff Dziekan: The VLR?
- 5:27Don Armstrong: I couldn't tell you.
- 5:28Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 5:28Don Armstrong: I'm not I'm not up to my up to parlour.
- 5:31Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, you're up to here with your electric, hey.
- 5:33Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 5:33Don Armstrong: Hey.
- 5:34Don Armstrong: Rear view camera may display distorted or blank image.
- 5:38Don Armstrong: Wouldn't it be funny if they put some naked woman in there?
- 5:41Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 5:41Jeff Dziekan: And all of a sudden, clown pictures or something.
- 5:44Don Armstrong: Something, yeah.
- 5:45Jeff Dziekan: Well, people do that.
- 5:46Jeff Dziekan: They put pictures behind it, and then when their wives or girlfriends put it in reverse, that scary picture pops up.
- 5:51Jeff Dziekan: Is that what it is?
- 5:52Don Armstrong: Well, anyway, the rear view camera may display a distorted or blank image.
- 5:56Don Armstrong: Uh Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue, 24 to 25 model years.
- 6:01Don Armstrong: Airbag inflator may rupture.
- 6:03Don Armstrong: That's not good.
- 6:04Don Armstrong: Hyundai Elantra and Elantra GT 2015 to 2016.
- 6:08Don Armstrong: And the Hyundai Ellantra hybrid, 24 to 26.
- 6:12Don Armstrong: Hybrid power control unit may overheat.
- 6:15Don Armstrong: They didn't say it would catch fire, but it can overheat.
- 6:17Jeff Dziekan: Get pretty warm.
- 6:18Don Armstrong: Loose rear suspension fasteners in the Hyundai Ionic 5 and Ionic 9 for 25 and 26 model years.
- 6:26Don Armstrong: Here's a bunch more.
- 6:27Don Armstrong: Forward collision avoidance system may activate the brakes unexpectedly.
- 6:32Jeff Dziekan: Oh, that's not good.
- 6:34Don Armstrong: No.
- 6:34Don Armstrong: Mars, so you're doing 70 on your uh freeway entrance ramp test that you that you're well well known for, and all of a sudden the brakes go, you're not going any further.
- 6:47Don Armstrong: Uh-huh.
- 6:48Don Armstrong: You hope and pray that nobody is behind you.
- 6:51Jeff Dziekan: Exactly.
- 6:52Jeff Dziekan: Now, you have that I have that feature where you back up and there's a the sensor, the seat vibrates and all that if you're getting close to something or the lake.
- 6:59Don Armstrong: This ain't that.
- 6:59Jeff Dziekan: No, I know.
- 7:00Jeff Dziekan: But if when I back out of my garage and it's raining, my car will actually dead stop because the rain is hitting the sensors.
- 7:06Jeff Dziekan: Uh-huh.
- 7:07Jeff Dziekan: And it's it's scary.
- 7:09Jeff Dziekan: It's scary as heck because you're backing up in a nice, comfortable one mile an hour and all of a sudden it locks up.
- 7:14Don Armstrong: Well, this forward collision avoidance system uh is now functioning on the Hyundai Santa Cruz Tucson, Tucson hybrid, Tucson plug-in hybrid, 25 and 26 mile years.
- 7:24Don Armstrong: Wheelchair restraint retractor may not lock.
- 7:27Don Armstrong: Oh, look, there goes Aunt Martha right through the windshield.
- 7:31Don Armstrong: Ford Odyssey and Ford Terra Transit, whatever that is.
- 7:35Don Armstrong: And the Toyota Tundra for 2024.
- 7:38Don Armstrong: Debris in the engine may cause a stall.
- 7:41Jeff Dziekan: Debris in the engine.
- 7:43Don Armstrong: Debris, that's what it says.
- 7:44Don Armstrong: Debris in the engine.
- 7:46Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 7:47Don Armstrong: Okay, so are you ready to run down the Yeah.
- 7:52Don Armstrong: So Mars pointed out to me.
- 7:53Don Armstrong: I see I said it's complicated the way that we do this, but boy's kind of to be.
- 7:59Mike Marrs: No.
- 7:59Mike Marrs: We can't do it simple.
- 8:01Don Armstrong: Mars pointed out to me after I sent him the sold car roundup this week that the prices are all wrong.
- 8:06Don Armstrong: I'm going, well, not to my knowledge.
- 8:10Don Armstrong: So and he starts quoting all this other stuff, and I'm going, I can't go with all that.
- 8:15Don Armstrong: They're close, let me put it that way.
- 8:17Don Armstrong: But what I get from Hemings is what we're going to go with today.
- 8:21Don Armstrong: So, first up.
- 8:22Don Armstrong: So we can make up our own prices on this?
- 8:24Don Armstrong: No, we can't.
- 8:25Don Armstrong: This is what they sold for.
- 8:26Don Armstrong: So, first up, on the sold car roundup, uh, everybody get ready to chime in.
- 8:31Don Armstrong: Your guess as to what the car sold for.
- 8:32Don Armstrong: Oh, this, ladies and gentlemen, is the biggest 1959 Cadillac Series 75.
- 8:42Don Armstrong: This is as big as they come, ladies and gentlemen.
- 8:45Don Armstrong: So, how much do you think that this beauty sold for?
- 8:48Jeff Dziekan: 175.
- 8:50Don Armstrong: 175 is what Jeff.
- 8:53Mike Marrs: $175?
- 8:54Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 8:56Don Armstrong: I think he's thinking.
- 8:57Don Armstrong: It's gorgeous.
- 8:58Don Armstrong: It is.
- 8:58Don Armstrong: It looks like it is an all-original, even with the wide whites, everything about it.
- 9:03Don Armstrong: Look at the size of those fins.
- 9:04Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 9:05Don Armstrong: How much do you think that this car sold for on the Hemings sold car?
- 9:10Jeff Dziekan: George says$39,999.
- 9:12Jeff Dziekan: And this is pre-Dagmars.
- 9:14Don Armstrong: Yeah, there's no Dagmars on Dagmar's.
- 9:16Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, but it does have a great set of fins.
- 9:18Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, it's got some training Dagmars.
- 9:21Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 9:22Don Armstrong: So I don't I I don't know whether uh Heitzman's with us.
- 9:24Jeff Dziekan: Is Heitzman with us?
- 9:26Jeff Dziekan: Oh, okay.
- 9:26Jeff Dziekan: The uh the Lusk family says 33K.
- 9:29Don Armstrong: 33,000.
- 9:30Jeff Dziekan: David and Stacey.
- 9:31Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 9:32Don Armstrong: So do we wait for Mr.
- 9:33Don Armstrong: Heitzman?
- 9:34Don Armstrong: He might not even be there.
- 9:35Jeff Dziekan: He's probably working on Artemis.
- 9:37Don Armstrong: Yeah, on the uh Blue Origin thing that blew up this week.
- 9:40Jeff Dziekan: That's not his.
- 9:41Mike Marrs: No, that's not his, but I'm not seeing him on in an earlier two weeks.
- 9:45Don Armstrong: Okay, so the the sold car price for the 59 Cadillac Series 75 was 19,950.
- 9:53Don Armstrong: The only problem is you're gonna have to spend$40,000 on redoing the garage to get it inside there that long.
- 9:59Jeff Dziekan: Get a buy a new house for$175.
- 10:01Jeff Dziekan: Pretty much.
- 10:02Jeff Dziekan: All right.
- 10:03Don Armstrong: Next up, another Cadillac.
- 10:05Don Armstrong: But I thought that this was an interesting because I I never knew that in 1973 they made a Cadillac Calais.
- 10:13Jeff Dziekan: Mm-hmm.
- 10:13Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 10:14Don Armstrong: You're familiar?
- 10:15Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:15Don Armstrong: So where does this fit in between the Sedan de Ville and the Coupe de Ville?
- 10:19Jeff Dziekan: It's like uh it's like the Fleetwood.
- 10:21Jeff Dziekan: It's like the the Buick GMC version in that category, the the in in betweener.
- 10:27Jeff Dziekan: The Calais was sort of uh sporty and luxury.
- 10:33Don Armstrong: That is not a sporty car.
- 10:34Don Armstrong: Okay, 78.
- 10:36Jeff Dziekan: Like an extended cab?
- 10:38Jeff Dziekan: Fender skirts on it.
- 10:39Jeff Dziekan: So you had a little bit of classier stuff.
- 10:41Jeff Dziekan: Okay, well, whatever.
- 10:42Don Armstrong: Um, so so does anybody want to guess how much this car sold for?
- 10:46Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go 12.
- 10:47Jeff Dziekan: Uh look at uh the last family says 127.
- 10:50Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I'm in that range, 12 to 15.
- 10:51Jeff Dziekan: I'll go 15.
- 10:52Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 10:53Jeff Dziekan: George says 21,999.
- 10:55Don Armstrong: This is a George car.
- 10:57Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:57Don Armstrong: This car sold for$1,700.
- 11:03Don Armstrong: It looks like it needs a little upholstery work, or is that just a reflection down there?
- 11:07Mike Marrs: No, it's it needs some state work, yes.
- 11:10Mike Marrs: Okay.
- 11:10Don Armstrong: Oh, look at that.
- 11:11Don Armstrong: Next up is the 1981, it 1981 Chevy Blazer.
- 11:17Don Armstrong: This is the old square body blazer.
- 11:19Don Armstrong: Uh, yes, the rear roof does come off, but what a pain.
- 11:24Don Armstrong: You had you have to unbolt it if you want it off.
- 11:26Mike Marrs: Well, yeah, but it didn't come off going down the highway like that.
- 11:30Don Armstrong: It did not, that it did not.
- 11:31Don Armstrong: So an 81 blazer, what do you think that that sold for?
- 11:34Jeff Dziekan: Oh gosh, those things are hot.
- 11:36Jeff Dziekan: And it's lifted.
- 11:37Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 11:38Jeff Dziekan: Got a little chrome under the nose.
- 11:40Don Armstrong: I like the uh wood wood green.
- 11:42Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go 39.
- 11:44Jeff Dziekan: 39?
- 11:44Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I'm gonna go 39.
- 11:45Jeff Dziekan: Wow's uh 59, says the Les family.
- 11:48Jeff Dziekan: That's beautiful.
- 11:49Jeff Dziekan: I agree.
- 11:49Don Armstrong: 59?
- 11:51Don Armstrong: Okay, anybody else?
- 11:54Don Armstrong: George?
- 11:54Jeff Dziekan: 1499.
- 11:56Jeff Dziekan: 1499.
- 11:56Don Armstrong: Okay, so it's sold for 23,625.
- 12:01Jeff Dziekan: Well, we've all got a range, but you know what?
- 12:02Don Armstrong: This is this has all been redone.
- 12:04Don Armstrong: You don't have to do anything to it, just run it down the road.
- 12:06Mike Marrs: Oh no, you do it's just a climb up and get in it.
- 12:09Don Armstrong: That's it.
- 12:09Don Armstrong: Okay, next up.
- 12:10Don Armstrong: This is a school teacher, Mrs.
- 12:12Don Armstrong: Rogers' car.
- 12:14Don Armstrong: Uh, this is a 1972 Volvo 1800.
- 12:19Don Armstrong: Remember the little sports car that they made for a very short period of time?
- 12:22Don Armstrong: Yeah, that was hot.
- 12:23Don Armstrong: Yep, and so is Mrs.
- 12:24Don Armstrong: Rogers.
- 12:25Don Armstrong: Golly.
- 12:26Don Armstrong: Uh, so what do you think that this Volvo 1800 from 1972 sold for?
- 12:31Don Armstrong: It looks like aftermarket wheels on there.
- 12:33Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say uh 19,000.
- 12:36Jeff Dziekan: 19,000.
- 12:37Jeff Dziekan: Jumps in with 19.
- 12:40Jeff Dziekan: It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood for her.
- 12:42Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:43Mike Marrs: It has a uh it's got a manual transmission, but if you look at that engine picture, it's it's almost like a wankel or rotary or something.
- 12:52Mike Marrs: It's really a four-cylinder.
- 12:54Jeff Dziekan: George says 12999, and I think I missed the Les family.
- 12:57Jeff Dziekan: Uh they might be coming up.
- 12:59Jeff Dziekan: Here we go.
- 12:59Jeff Dziekan: Uh 265 from them.
- 13:01Don Armstrong: It's sold for$21,000 either.
- 13:03Jeff Dziekan: Okay, we're all in the park.
- 13:04Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 13:04Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 13:04Don Armstrong: Everybody's kind of.
- 13:05Jeff Dziekan: Well, my uh brother-in-law Jerry had a Capri.
- 13:07Jeff Dziekan: He rallied a Capri and had the same kind of wheels on that.
- 13:10Jeff Dziekan: It was very cool wheels.
- 13:12Don Armstrong: All right.
- 13:12Don Armstrong: Next up, and I had to put this in here because it's kind of surprising to me.
- 13:16Don Armstrong: A 2015 Porsche Cayman.
- 13:19Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 13:20Don Armstrong: All right.
- 13:20Don Armstrong: Uh Porsche Cayman for 2015.
- 13:24Don Armstrong: Um 70.
- 13:26Don Armstrong: Really?
- 13:27Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 13:28Don Armstrong: A 2015.
- 13:29Don Armstrong: So that this car is 11 years old, Jeff.
- 13:31Jeff Dziekan: Right.
- 13:31Jeff Dziekan: It's a Cayman.
- 13:32Don Armstrong: All right.
- 13:33Don Armstrong: It's a Cayman.
- 13:34Jeff Dziekan: Should I go more?
- 13:36Don Armstrong: Um, what did you guess?
- 13:37Jeff Dziekan: This is 70.
- 13:38Jeff Dziekan: Uh Lost Family says 80.
- 13:41Don Armstrong: Really?
- 13:42Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 13:42Don Armstrong: Well, you all are going to be surprised.
- 13:44Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 13:45Jeff Dziekan: Probably went for 12 or something.
- 13:47Don Armstrong: 16.8.
- 13:48Don Armstrong: Ah.
- 13:49Don Armstrong: What uh my question is, what's wrong with it?
- 13:51unknown: Yeah.
- 13:53Don Armstrong: Is it that little?
- 13:53Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 13:54Don Armstrong: It looks clean.
- 13:56Don Armstrong: All right.
- 13:57Don Armstrong: This one here is for George.
- 13:58Don Armstrong: Next up.
- 13:59Don Armstrong: A 1932 Chevrolet Custom.
- 14:04Don Armstrong: Do we have that?
- 14:05Don Armstrong: Yeah, he's coming up.
- 14:06Mike Marrs: I'm not sure why it's not coming up.
- 14:07Mike Marrs: There it is.
- 14:08Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 14:09Don Armstrong: A 1932 Chevrolet custom.
- 14:12Mike Marrs: George.
- 14:14Don Armstrong: George, I'm sorry.
- 14:15Don Armstrong: I I didn't I'm not trying to offend you, but I thought, well, this is a George car.
- 14:19Jeff Dziekan: George sent, uh I just noticed on the George sent a picture of his first car, so we're gonna have to put that up for next week.
- 14:24Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 14:24Jeff Dziekan: Uh I'm looking at 17,000.
- 14:29Jeff Dziekan: I'm way off.
- 14:30Don Armstrong: Really?
- 14:30Jeff Dziekan: I'm thinking way off.
- 14:31Don Armstrong: Well, it does not have the stock engine in it.
- 14:34Don Armstrong: It looks like it's got a Chevy or something.
- 14:38Jeff Dziekan: Yep.
- 14:38Don Armstrong: How much?
- 14:40Jeff Dziekan: 17.
- 14:40Don Armstrong: 17.
- 14:41Don Armstrong: All right.
- 14:42Jeff Dziekan: 32 from George.
- 14:44Jeff Dziekan: Uh David and Stacy said 5K.
- 14:47Don Armstrong: Well, you well, they they win.
- 14:49Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 14:50Don Armstrong: $5,320.
- 14:53Don Armstrong: So don't tell me you can't afford to get into a hot rod.
- 14:56Jeff Dziekan: Or are you going to spend another 60 grand tubbing it out and put an LS?
- 15:00Don Armstrong: This one here is Mars Car of the Week.
- 15:02Don Armstrong: Next up.
- 15:03Jeff Dziekan: It's coming up.
- 15:05Jeff Dziekan: I love this.
- 15:07Mike Marrs: I'm telling you.
- 15:09Don Armstrong: The only problem with that is that on-ramp accelerator test that you uh have happened to have.
- 15:15Don Armstrong: I'm not thinking of real good thoughts there.
- 15:17Mike Marrs: Do I see a Briggs and Stratton stencil on that end?
- 15:19Mike Marrs: Could very well be.
- 15:22Mike Marrs: This is your own personal clown car you can have here.
- 15:25Don Armstrong: 1960 Vespa 400.
- 15:28Don Armstrong: Wait a minute.
- 15:29Don Armstrong: Vespa, didn't they make those fucky little Italian motorbikes?
- 15:32Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 15:33Jeff Dziekan: David and Stacy said 25.
- 15:35Jeff Dziekan: I was going to go around four.
- 15:37Jeff Dziekan: I'll do four.
- 15:38Don Armstrong: Well, David and Stacy, I'm telling you, they got it together.
- 15:41Don Armstrong: Yep.
- 15:42Don Armstrong: 18, 821.
- 15:44Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 15:44Don Armstrong: The only problem is you have to ask yourself, can I fit in it?
- 15:48Mike Marrs: Yeah, I don't think.
- 15:48Mike Marrs: The other thing I was thinking about, if you had, if it's got a, I couldn't find it in the picture, but if it's got a like a moonroof or a sunroof that you can open up and stick your head out the top of your head.
- 15:58Jeff Dziekan: You know, it does look like it, Mike.
- 15:59Jeff Dziekan: It's got something.
- 16:00Don Armstrong: That would be one of those that the that big humongous guy in all of those Bond movies with the with the braces teeth.
- 16:07Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 16:09Don Armstrong: All right, uh, so that sold for$18,821.
- 16:13Don Armstrong: Next up is a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire.
- 16:19Don Armstrong: When that thing came out, that was the hottest looking little thing.
- 16:22Don Armstrong: And the problem is it had no leg room in it whatsoever.
- 16:26Don Armstrong: Because it was based.
- 16:27Don Armstrong: This is back when uh Chrysler was owned by Mercedes-Benz, and they took their I don't know, what whatever little car that they had at the time and re-badged it.
- 16:38Don Armstrong: Then re-badged it with uh whatever it whatever it was in the Mercedes-Benz form and called it the Cross or Christfire.
- 16:45Jeff Dziekan: 12,000.
- 16:46Don Armstrong: 12,000, Jeff says.
- 16:49Don Armstrong: Anybody else?
- 16:50Jeff Dziekan: They're coming up.
- 16:52Jeff Dziekan: George says$12,999.
- 16:54Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 16:55Mike Marrs: Still talking about the clown car that we just looked at.
- 16:59Jeff Dziekan: I think so.
- 17:01Don Armstrong: All right.
- 17:02Don Armstrong: The actual sold price was$9,500.
- 17:05Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 17:10Don Armstrong: So what have we learned today?
- 17:11Don Armstrong: Don't let me buy your car.
- 17:13Don Armstrong: And also, don't buy the Vespa automobile before you sit in it.
- 17:19Mike Marrs: I would have to, I would have to buy that.
- 17:22Mike Marrs: Yeah, I can because I can fit that in my garage.
- 17:25Mike Marrs: I got a little corner over in the, I could put it in the garage.
- 17:28Don Armstrong: You take all the crap out of the garage and then put that in and then put all the crap on the top of the city.
- 17:33Mike Marrs: I bet it didn't take up as much room as a golf cart.
- 17:36Don Armstrong: Oh, I bet not.
- 17:37Mike Marrs: Yeah, you're probably right.
- 17:38Don Armstrong: Okay.

- 19:39Don Armstrong: Mars, is it okay if we do the This Week in Auto History?
- 19:43Don Armstrong: Sure.
- 19:44Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 19:45Don Armstrong: We're gonna do you first.
- 19:46Mike Marrs: You're gonna do me first?
- 19:48Don Armstrong: We're gonna do you first.
- 19:49Don Armstrong: So Mr.
- 19:50Don Armstrong: Mars has This Week in Auto History.
- 19:52Don Armstrong: And um we're ready when you are, Mike.
- 19:55Mike Marrs: All righty.
- 19:56Mike Marrs: This week we found a few stories that we thought were rather interesting.
- 19:58Mike Marrs: And of course, the Indianapolis 500 was just finished up.
- 20:03Mike Marrs: Excuse me, and and I found another little story about it.
- 20:07Mike Marrs: But actually, the very first Indianapolis 500 was on May the 30th of 1911.
- 20:12Mike Marrs: Now, it may it that's the start of the most famous race in American history.
- 20:17Mike Marrs: Now, the car winning car was a Marmon Wasp.
- 20:20Mike Marrs: This was a revolutionary single-seat car, had one of the earliest rear view mirrors, and that's significant because that's another thing that came out of the racing world and became into production cars, as well as some of the other features for the engineering advancements on this car kind of influenced cars made for the public sector for the next several centuries.
- 20:41Mike Marrs: So the also this week was the introduction of the diesel passenger car.
- 20:48Mike Marrs: Now at the Berlin Motor Show, Mercedes Benz introduced the 260D, which is generally recognized as the first series production diesel passenger car.
- 20:58Mike Marrs: There were diesel engines obviously out in trucks and uh tractors and railroad gear, but this was the first one that was set up for everyday automobiles and improved the efficiency and the reliability of the diesel motor in that in the category.
- 21:14Mike Marrs: Now, it's long been held over in Europe.
- 21:16Mike Marrs: They've always used diesels a lot more than what we would here, but this is where it started and where it brought it into uh common usage.
- 21:24Mike Marrs: Now in 1934, this was really interesting.
- 21:27Mike Marrs: I did not know this existed, but it was the birth of the Chrysler Airflow era.
- 21:32Mike Marrs: Now, they started production of this automotive design thinking that Chrysler engineers were going to use the wind tunnel testing and the airflow, which was actually a model of a car that was produced from nineteen thirty four to nineteen thirty seven, and it was a unibody vehicle that I did not even know existed back then.
- 21:52Jeff Dziekan: So, uh Sir I said I like it.
- 21:56Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 21:57Mike Marrs: It it's got a lot of features on it, including the Uh it sits down low, it's got a waterfall type grill to it.
- 22:04Mike Marrs: The uh windshield was technology advanced because instead of it being one piece of glass that was flat, it's two pieces that come up to that V that you can see sections off right there.
- 22:14Mike Marrs: Uh it sets a little lower, it's got the wheel wheel coverings that kind of come over the tires.
- 22:18Mike Marrs: There's a lot of things that were done because of the wind tunnel testing that they developed on this car.
- 22:24Mike Marrs: And it's a shame they only produced it for three years, but they also produced one over in the DeSoto line as well as the Chrysler line, but it just never was publicly accepted.
- 22:36Mike Marrs: I mean, they just couldn't sell many of them.
- 22:38Mike Marrs: I think it was only like about 7,000, was actually they ended up selling it across three years and uh they pulled it from production.
- 22:45Mike Marrs: But it was another one of those things ahead of its time.
- 22:48Mike Marrs: Yes.
- 22:49Mike Marrs: In 1986, Henry Ford's quadricycle hits the road.
- 22:52Mike Marrs: Now, this was the same.
- 22:54Mike Marrs: You just said 1986?
- 22:56Mike Marrs: 1886.
- 22:58Mike Marrs: 1896.
- 22:59Mike Marrs: Yeah, there you go.
- 22:59Jeff Dziekan: 1896, okay.
- 23:00Mike Marrs: Yeah, let me let me turn my glasses around.
- 23:03Mike Marrs: Okay.
- 23:03Mike Marrs: So this was uh in Detroit, and this was a four-wheeled vehicle powered by a small gasoline engine.
- 23:09Mike Marrs: Now, this is Ford's earliest practical automobile, and this is what he started off building the whole Ford Motor Company from.
- 23:17Mike Marrs: It's absolutely very primitive, but if you think about it, some of the things that as kids that we tried to build little go-karts, our own little motorized powers, it was basically that four wheels and a motor with some sort of steering.
- 23:29Mike Marrs: In uh 1928, Chrysler produced purchases the Dodge Brothers.
- 23:35Mike Marrs: Now, the interesting thing about this is the Dodge Brothers were originally parts suppliers to all of the manufacturers at the time, including Ford.
- 23:45Mike Marrs: So in 1914, they decided to start building their own automobiles.
- 23:50Mike Marrs: And so through that production, and then it came up in 1928 after both brothers had uh died for one of them was under the Spanish flu, and the other one they're not really sure, but they think it was related to that.
- 24:02Mike Marrs: So the family then ended up selling it, and Chrysler ended up buying it through a couple of other transactions.
- 24:08Mike Marrs: And what it did, it gave Chrysler, expanded their production ability to bring things in and make Chrysler that started Chrysler into becoming one of the big three of Detroit.
- 24:19Mike Marrs: Uh and uh yeah, and that's the things that I found that were interesting.
- 24:23Mike Marrs: Some of them I didn't even know existed in automobile history.
- 24:26Don Armstrong: I saw the Marmon Wasp, it's in the uh Indianapolis Museum uh at the Indianapolis Speedway, and I got to see, and I think you did too, Mike, that uh that Chrysler Airflow.
- 24:36Don Armstrong: That was in the Chrysler Museum there in Auburn Hills when we went to visit.
- 24:41Don Armstrong: That's very cool.
- 24:42Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, and that those cars are around, but you have to seek them out.
- 24:46Don Armstrong: You just you know they don't show up at at a cruise in or something.
- 24:49Mike Marrs: No, yeah, they're they're very special cars and they treat them that way, fortunately.
- 24:53Don Armstrong: All right, time now for the racing calendar, sponsored by the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
- 24:57Jeff Dziekan: Thank you for that.
- 24:58Jeff Dziekan: Now going on the indie theme, Doug Taylor.
- 25:00Jeff Dziekan: You got indie going on tomorrow.
- 25:02Jeff Dziekan: I watched a little bit of the NXT series this morning.
- 25:05Jeff Dziekan: They're uh practicing and qualifying today.
- 25:08Jeff Dziekan: They're gonna qualify for the Detroit Grand Prix.
- 25:12Jeff Dziekan: It's gonna be awesome.
- 25:13Jeff Dziekan: Uh Detroit used to run it on Bell Isle.
- 25:15Jeff Dziekan: Now they went on to the mainland around the streets of Detroit.
- 25:17Jeff Dziekan: It's gonna be fantastic.
- 25:19Jeff Dziekan: 11:30 tomorrow morning on Fox Local.
- 25:21Jeff Dziekan: I want everybody to tune in for that.
- 25:23Jeff Dziekan: It's gonna be great.
- 25:24Jeff Dziekan: NHRA is going on.
- 25:25Jeff Dziekan: They are at the uh Potomac Nationals and Maryland International Raceway.
- 25:29Jeff Dziekan: It's going on this weekend.
- 25:31Jeff Dziekan: Uh I don't know any qualifying aspects or anything, so uh you have to tune in and watch that.
- 25:36Jeff Dziekan: Uh Formula One is in uh actually not gonna be too to June 7th, so they're another week out in Monaco.
- 25:44Jeff Dziekan: Uh NASCAR.
- 25:45Jeff Dziekan: Let's talk a little bit about NASCAR.
- 25:47Jeff Dziekan: Uh just gonna give you some stats here and move on.
- 25:50Jeff Dziekan: They're gonna Nashville, all three series.
- 25:52Jeff Dziekan: Uh they kind of paraded uh uh Kyle Bush's wife out there, and it was kind of embarrassing, I think, for NASCAR.
- 25:58Jeff Dziekan: So shame on you, NASCAR, and that's it.
- 26:01Don Armstrong: Okay, well, thank you.
- 26:02Don Armstrong: Uh for America's 250th birthday, Chevy gave itself the honor of blowing out the candles.
- 26:08Don Armstrong: GM set up an 188-foot-long birthday cake topped with 250 oversized candles at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, then used a 1250 horsepower Corvette ZR1 X to extinguish the flames at 90 miles an hour.
