Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round presented by Hard
- 0:02Speaker 1: Rock Bet on Sporting State, Jim Dunaway, Lance Taylor, Ryan Brown.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You know, I occasionally overreact to things in the offseason.
- 0:12Speaker 1: One of those was Cam Coleman leaving Auburn, going to Texas.
- 0:17Speaker 1: 12 catches, 208 yards, four touchdowns. Not a horrible stat line.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I mean, he leads the team in touchdowns.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Tell that to Jeremiah Smith. That's a game for him.
- 0:32Speaker 1: It really is.
- 0:33Speaker 3: It is.
- 0:34Speaker 1: He leads the team in touchdowns. He's second in receiving
- 0:38Speaker 1: yards from them. But, I mean, he'd be more important
- 0:43Speaker 1: to Auburn right now than he's, well, he leads the
- 0:45Speaker 1: team in touchdowns and receiving. I don't know. I don't know.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Is it a Cam Coleman problem? I don't know. That's
- 0:51Speaker 1: why when you say it'd be more important to Auburn,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I don't know if that's true. I don't know if
- 0:54Speaker 1: this is a Cam Coleman problem.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Best offensive minds in all of football. I know Arch
- 0:58Speaker 2: has been up and down, but still. I mean, if
- 1:02Speaker 2: Cam is this talented, which I think he is, Sark
- 1:05Speaker 2: is going to scheme where you get him touches.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah. It's very strange. It could be an Arch problem,
- 1:09Speaker 1: which is the same problem Cam had at Auburn, where
- 1:12Speaker 1: the quarterback, if he was open, couldn't get him to football.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Maybe that's the problem. Or maybe it's Cam Coleman. can't
- 1:17Speaker 1: be open enough to get throws to him. I don't know.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Maybe Cam and Ashton Daniels should have just stayed in Auburn.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Ashton's putting up good numbers. But Bama Hammer last
- 1:27Speaker 1: night on Twitter did some screenshots and posted these. All
- 1:30Speaker 1: three of these guys I overreacted when he left Alabama.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Keon Keeley, who I thought was an up-and-coming star at Alabama,
- 1:38Speaker 1: never really had done a whole lot. And I remember
- 1:40Speaker 1: HaHa Clinton Dix had reacted when fans were going crazy
- 1:44Speaker 1: about Alabama losing these three players last that the tape
- 1:49Speaker 1: doesn't back up you guys overreacting to these guys. Go
- 1:52Speaker 1: watch the tape like the coaches do, and there's a
- 1:54Speaker 1: reason why these guys are walking out the door. Keon
- 1:57Speaker 1: Keeley at Notre Dame this year, the senior defensive lineman,
- 2:01Speaker 1: has one solo tackle.
- 2:05Speaker 2: What do you think he's been paid for a tackle?
- 2:07Speaker 1: The return on.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Investment is quite low. $ 850, 000 and you've.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Got a tackle. Quay Rousaw, when he left Alabama defensive end,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I was like, whew. And you need him. You maybe
- 2:18Speaker 1: have to move around positions. You don't understand that. That's
- 2:20Speaker 1: the one guy we've talked about. If he were in Tuscaloosa,
- 2:24Speaker 1: he would have to change positions to get on the
- 2:25Speaker 1: field because he's not playing in front of Pierre. He
- 2:27Speaker 1: has one sack, three solo tackles. That's for the season.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So Ohio State's played some dogs along the way. And
- 2:35Speaker 1: he's got three solo tackles, one sack. The guy I
- 2:39Speaker 1: was most upset about losing was James Smith, defensive tackle,
- 2:43Speaker 1: because that guy had an edge to him. 6'3, 306
- 2:47Speaker 1: pounds from Montgomery. I mean, he was just mean. I'd
- 2:49Speaker 1: watch him afterwards. I thought, that's the kind of toughness
- 2:51Speaker 1: you need on a defensive line. And Ohio State's getting
- 2:54Speaker 1: a playmaker there. And again, they have played, I mean,
- 2:58Speaker 1: I don't know who all they played. They played Texas,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but they played some dogs along the way here. He
- 3:03Speaker 1: has one solo tackle. And the guys that replaced them,
- 3:07Speaker 1: the Devin Tompkins, the Terrence Green, those guys have been
- 3:12Speaker 1: absolutely amazing. studs for Alabama I mean look.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Texas Illinois and Iowa not bad obviously but Ball State
- 3:19Speaker 2: and Kent State yeah like you would think you'd rack.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Up yeah you think you'd have eight tackles oh well
- 3:24Speaker 1: six of those came against Ball State and Kent State
- 3:26Speaker 1: yeah but at least you'd have six tackles yeah but
- 3:28Speaker 1: but but nothing and I'm with you like if it
- 3:32Speaker 1: kept it was not going to keep Yonze Pierre off
- 3:34Speaker 1: the field because he was already on the field that
- 3:36Speaker 1: was the reason Quay Russo was leaving as he had
- 3:38Speaker 1: looked at and is like I got Wally pipped is
- 3:41Speaker 1: a very old saying, but when I was out injured,
- 3:45Speaker 1: the better player got on the field, I'm never getting
- 3:47Speaker 1: my spot back. But if you told Alabama fans you
- 3:51Speaker 1: can have James Smith or Devin Tompkins, What do you
- 3:53Speaker 1: think that answer is.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Going to be?
- 3:54Speaker 1: James Smith.
- 3:55Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Alabama fans.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'm talking about now, but going into the season, it
- 3:59Speaker 2: would have been like James Smith 100%.
- 4:01Speaker 1: 100%. If you're like, all right, guys, if you did
- 4:04Speaker 1: a poll, if Clinton Dix did it, all right, we're
- 4:06Speaker 1: going to do a Twitter poll here, Alabama fans. We
- 4:08Speaker 1: can either pay James Smith to stay or we got
- 4:09Speaker 1: this Devin Tompkins kid. a defensively challenged USC, a team
- 4:14Speaker 1: that never plays defense. Yeah, we can go get him.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Which one do y'all want? I think James Smith wins
- 4:19Speaker 1: the poll going away. Going away. Now that you've watched it,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you're like, I wouldn't trade Devin Tompkins for most any
- 4:23Speaker 1: defensive tackle. I would like to know how much Notre
- 4:28Speaker 1: Dame and Ohio State are paying those three players.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Well, just Devin Tompkins. I mean, just pure numbers. I mean,
- 4:35Speaker 2: he's got 19 tackles on the air, eight tackles, eight
- 4:38Speaker 2: solo tackles. For a defensive lineman, and he's got three sacks.
- 4:41Speaker 1: If Alabama is paying Devin Tompkins, what, Kwe Rusaw and
- 4:46Speaker 1: Keon Keeley are getting paid combined? Oh, yeah. It's an
- 4:49Speaker 1: amazing deal. Alabama got the better end of that trade.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Or James Smith. Or James Smith. Any of those two
- 4:56Speaker 1: you combine, if that's what Devin Tompkins is getting paid
- 4:59Speaker 1: to play at Alabama, you made an incredible trade there. Oh,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and trust me, and this is all kudos to Courtney Morgan,
- 5:06Speaker 1: who manages the roster for Alabama. But if you take
- 5:10Speaker 1: what Keon Keeley, James Smith, and Quay Russo are getting paid,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and give me Caleb Woodson, Terrence Green, and Devin Tompkins.
- 5:19Speaker 1: For the same amount? Oh, I guarantee you those three
- 5:22Speaker 1: are making less than those three. I would think you
- 5:24Speaker 1: probably got, yeah, you probably got those three for less. Yeah, crazy.

- 6:51Speaker 1: our heart, whatever you have to do on said given platform.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But Klatt was on yesterday, and he had this to
- 6:58Speaker 1: say about Texas. I asked him the question, is there
- 7:01Speaker 1: a chance you can be the number one team in
- 7:05Speaker 1: the country in the AP polls but in SEC power rankings,
- 7:09Speaker 1: be number three in the SEC. Is that possible? Here's
- 7:12Speaker 1: Joe Klatt.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I think Texas is better on paper than they are
- 7:17Speaker 4: on the field. Their resume looks incredible, and as such,
- 7:24Speaker 4: if you're evaluating that, they probably should be number one
- 7:27Speaker 4: in the country. But when you watch them, they are
- 7:32Speaker 4: sloppy and inconsistent, and they played three games gritty, incredible
- 7:38Speaker 4: series of football, both offensively and defensively, to beat Ohio State.
- 7:42Speaker 4: You know, there is a 5% chance that game goes
- 7:49Speaker 4: the way that it did. We all know that, right?
- 7:51Speaker 4: There's 12 things that happen in that game that if
- 7:54Speaker 4: any one of them go the other direction, Ohio State
- 7:56Speaker 4: wins the game. And if two or three of them
- 7:59Speaker 4: go Ohio State's direction... You know, even just like a
- 8:02Speaker 4: small minority of those things go Ohio State's direction. They
- 8:05Speaker 4: don't only win the game. They win it by multiple
- 8:07Speaker 4: possessions on the road, which we don't normally see in
- 8:10Speaker 4: big matchup games, top five games. So outside of that,
- 8:14Speaker 4: they were really sloppy against Tennessee and got away with it.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Didn't play great against UTSA. Arch's numbers are very pedestrian
- 8:24Speaker 4: and average.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So.
- 8:26Speaker 4: They're going in as the number one team in the country,
- 8:29Speaker 4: and that is a throw-the-records-out style of game. It's a
- 8:32Speaker 4: throw-the-records-out style of environment. I know that Oklahoma is anemic
- 8:37Speaker 4: on the offensive side.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Of the ball.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I would fully agree with that. Their defense is fine.
- 8:43Speaker 4: We all know that. And against Texas' offense, which has
- 8:47Speaker 4: just kind of sputtered through games at times, they have
- 8:51Speaker 4: not been dominant. They are more dominant on paper than
- 8:54Speaker 4: they are on film. And for that reason, I think
- 8:58Speaker 4: that it's probably appropriate that they're number three in the
- 9:01Speaker 4: power rankings in the SEC. I don't think that they
- 9:03Speaker 4: should be the number one team in the country based
- 9:05Speaker 4: on film. They should based on resume. I wouldn't be
- 9:09Speaker 4: surprised at all if they were in a really tough
- 9:12Speaker 4: one-possession environment this Saturday in Red River.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So when you heard him say that yesterday, did you
- 9:18Speaker 1: agree with him? I agree with him 100%.
- 9:19Speaker 2: When you go back, Texas-Tennessee... Auburn's offense was just as
- 9:24Speaker 2: productive or more than Texas' was in Neyland.
- 9:27Speaker 1: That's a good point.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I mean, Texas was 2-12 on third downs in Neyland.
- 9:31Speaker 2: They ended up going 262 total yards. They win the
- 9:35Speaker 2: game by three. They did just enough. But if you
- 9:38Speaker 2: take away that fourth quarter against Ohio State, three points
- 9:43Speaker 2: in those first three quarters and then 262 total yards,
- 9:46Speaker 2: 3-12 on third downs against Tennessee, and now they've got.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Probably the best defense they've seen.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Now, Oklahoma's coming out of a bye, too, so I
- 9:54Speaker 2: think you've got to factor that in. This is going
- 9:57Speaker 2: to be the best, and they are going to be
- 9:59Speaker 2: foaming at the mouth. Whether or not they can get
- 10:01Speaker 2: it done, this is going to be a hell of
- 10:03Speaker 2: a test for Texas.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Oh, I agree completely. It is not shocking if Oklahoma
- 10:07Speaker 1: wins this game. I didn't want to draw the wagon again. Oh,
- 10:09Speaker 1: you would have gone there? I liked it, yeah. It's
- 10:12Speaker 1: going to be called an upset, and it should be.
- 10:14Speaker 1: It's a point spread upset. Texas is number one. It's
- 10:17Speaker 1: not as big an upset as it will be painted
- 10:19Speaker 1: because I really think these two teams are the Spider-Man meme.
- 10:25Speaker 1: The Spider-Man pointing at one another. They are, I guess,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Arch is better than Mateer. Yes. But if you take
- 10:35Speaker 1: that away, these teams are a lot alike. They're both
- 10:37Speaker 1: really good defensively. And they both struggle to generate points offensively.
- 10:42Speaker 1: The only difference is you've got a better quarterback at Texas,
- 10:45Speaker 1: which actually makes it even more puzzling. They have so
- 10:48Speaker 1: much more talent offensively on the Texas team. It's not
- 10:52Speaker 1: even close. You would think that. I mean, let's go.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I think it is. I mean, Cetania's really good. Is
- 10:58Speaker 1: he better than Cam Coleman? No, he's definitely better than
- 11:02Speaker 1: Cam Coleman. That's not Texas' best receiver. Yeah, Wingo. Ryan Wingo.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Is Cetania or Wingo better? Wingo. Wingo. But it's not
- 11:10Speaker 1: far out. Coleman's better than him, too. No, he's not.
- 11:14Speaker 1: What has Cam Coleman ever done that makes you think he's...
- 11:17Speaker 1: Satane is really good. He hasn't had a quarterback ever.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Neither has Cam Coleman, to be fair. But what has
- 11:22Speaker 1: Coleman ever done? Hollywood Smothers in the run game. The
- 11:24Speaker 1: running backs are better than Oklahoma's.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we're Leak Brown and Hollywood Smothers for sure.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Okay, I'll give you that. I don't know about offensive line.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I'm going to assume Texas is better because Oklahoma's is awful.
- 11:35Speaker 1: That makes it even more puzzling. Why can Texas not
- 11:37Speaker 1: score points? I'm not disagreeing with you guys. I'm just
- 11:40Speaker 1: saying that Texas has more talent on the offensive side
- 11:44Speaker 1: of the football. But not disciplined either, though. No, no, no.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I mean, they're coming off an 11-penalty, two-turn over game.
- 11:52Speaker 1: It appears from the outside that it is a poorly
- 11:55Speaker 1: coached group of players. Yes. At Texas or at Oklahoma?
- 11:59Speaker 1: At Texas. I don't want to.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Say that about the defense, though. I think Muschamp's done
- 12:03Speaker 2: a hell of a job with this defense. The offense
- 12:06Speaker 2: is just, it seems like they're going in different directions.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I'm a huge Sark fan, and I hate to believe this,
- 12:14Speaker 1: but I believe Sark is a good coach, and I
- 12:17Speaker 1: don't want to be the guy that gets 15 yards
- 12:20Speaker 1: for a late hit on Arch Manning, but it really
- 12:23Speaker 1: does seem like if Sark has shown me all these
- 12:26Speaker 1: years he's a great play caller, and you've got all
- 12:29Speaker 1: this offensive talent, then at some point, eventually, by doing
- 12:35Speaker 1: the math, it ends up it's Arch. But you're never
- 12:39Speaker 1: going to let your backup see that we could do
- 12:42Speaker 1: something special with the backup. It is becoming increasingly difficult
- 12:48Speaker 1: to say it's anything other than Arch. I think Arch Manning,
- 12:52Speaker 1: we talked all his whole career, basically, about wearing the
- 12:57Speaker 1: mantle of that Manning name and how difficult it is.
- 12:59Speaker 1: In this case, I think it's actually given him a
- 13:02Speaker 1: break Like if this guy's name was Arch Simpson, he'd
- 13:07Speaker 1: be getting killed. Maybe benched, but he'd be getting killed.
- 13:12Speaker 1: It's just so weird. We are having such a difficult
- 13:14Speaker 1: time as football fans looking at Texas, seeing them struggle
- 13:18Speaker 1: on offense with a quarterback, Lance, that has Manning on
- 13:21Speaker 1: his jersey and saying, there's your problem right there is
- 13:23Speaker 1: the one with Manning on his jersey. It's just hard
- 13:25Speaker 1: to say that. Because the rest of his family was
- 13:28Speaker 1: not that way. But people are saying it finally. Well,
- 13:32Speaker 1: I think I do think people are a little hesitant.
- 13:34Speaker 1: It's become almost impossible to ignore Lance. You know what
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm saying? Yeah. I mean, you keep watching it and
- 13:38Speaker 1: you're like, I can try to excuse everything else away.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And I keep coming back to the fact that I
- 13:43Speaker 1: just don't know that they're getting great quarterback play.
- 13:45Speaker 2: But if you go back last year, that's what's so bad.
- 13:48Speaker 6: I know.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Because you heard all the hype. I didn't know anything
- 13:50Speaker 2: outside of the name. And this guy's ultimately going to
- 13:53Speaker 2: be good because of the lineage. But if you go
- 13:55Speaker 2: back to last year, the way he played in the
- 13:57Speaker 2: the the final 60% of the season was high-level football.
- 14:02Speaker 1: He's behind Mateer, by the way, in the SEC. I mean,
- 14:06Speaker 1: when you look at yards per game, which is not
- 14:09Speaker 1: always the best measurement, but yards per game, he's behind Mateer.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Completion percentage, he's behind Mateer. They're almost identical in touchdown
- 14:16Speaker 1: to interception, 8-4 for Mateer, 7-3 for Arch. Yardage, he's
- 14:20Speaker 1: behind Mateer. They've played the same amount of games, and
- 14:23Speaker 1: in almost every statistical category, he's behind Mateer, who we
- 14:27Speaker 1: call an awful quarterback. Mateer has been a huge disappointment,
- 14:30Speaker 1: but he's better than Arch so far this year against
- 14:34Speaker 1: a fairly comparable schedule. I would say Texas and Oklahoma played.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Oklahoma's had to go to Georgia. Texas hosted Ohio State.
- 14:41Speaker 1: It's fairly comparable, and Mateer has him in every statistical category.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Just real quick, his last five games last year, 4-1,
- 14:48Speaker 2: the one loss was to Georgia, 15 touchdowns, one pick.
- 14:52Speaker 2: He was playing high-level football last year.
- 14:55Speaker 1: One of those was against playoff-bound Texas A & M.
- 14:58Speaker 1: They lost to Georgia. Who were the other wins?
- 15:01Speaker 2: It was Vanderbilt, but that was a good Vanderbilt team.
- 15:04Speaker 2: He completed 75, 76% of his passes and three touchdowns,
- 15:08Speaker 2: no picks.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Arkansas, A & M, Michigan. A & M had a
- 15:14Speaker 1: good defense. Michigan had a good defense. That was a
- 15:15Speaker 1: bowl game, so I got a discount. Maybe this coming
- 15:18Speaker 1: off the buy-in to Red Rivers when Arch hits his
- 15:21Speaker 1: stride a little bit. One more thing here, an upset
- 15:24Speaker 1: alert in our next segment. Yesterday at the Little Rock
- 15:31Speaker 1: Quarterback Club, Brown and Forster and I were texting this yesterday.
- 15:35Speaker 1: The Tyson chicken guy was there. And he was asked,
- 15:42Speaker 1: Cody Campbell at Texas Tech is able to do this
- 15:46Speaker 1: with his money. And he's able to turn the Texas
- 15:50Speaker 1: Tech program into what it is. Wait, real quick.
- 15:52Speaker 2: So the Tyson guy was asked directly, like, why.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Can't you be this guy? He is speaking at the
- 15:56Speaker 1: Little Rock Quarterback Club. It's amazing sound. John Tyson was
- 16:00Speaker 1: setting up there, and he gives a really funny answer.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He says, well, you know, he's got oil, and I've
- 16:07Speaker 1: got chickens. It's a great line. But you nailed what
- 16:13Speaker 1: I was going to bring up. He's getting asked at
- 16:15Speaker 1: the Little Rock Quarterback Club, John Tyson, who gives a
- 16:18Speaker 1: ton of money, especially to Arkansas basketball, why aren't you
- 16:21Speaker 1: giving more? Net worth, real quick, Lance, on the robot
- 16:25Speaker 1: says $ 2. 7 billion.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, he's got money that it doesn't
- 16:28Speaker 2: matter how much he gives, but there is a little principle. Like,
- 16:32Speaker 2: why am I the guy that is responsible for funding
- 16:34Speaker 2: this program? Cody Campbell is an ex-Texas Tech player. I
- 16:37Speaker 2: love Arkansas athletics, but I'm not just going to throw
- 16:40Speaker 2: money in a hole.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Go look at that logo you got on the field.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I paid for that. I buy these suites. I probably
- 16:46Speaker 1: paid for part of this stadium upgrade. Oh, by the way,
- 16:49Speaker 1: I paid for your whole basketball team. I'm paying for Calipari.
- 16:52Speaker 1: How much more do you want me to give? But see,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and this is where I think fans just, they get
- 16:57Speaker 1: so blinded by their favorite, the love for their favorite team.
- 17:01Speaker 1: It's hard to grasp this. Billionaires don't become billionaires by
- 17:04Speaker 1: investing in things that don't give them a return on investment.
- 17:07Speaker 1: They become billionaires by putting a little amount of money
- 17:10Speaker 1: into something that gets them a big amount of money.
- 17:12Speaker 1: NIL for these guys is not that. It is for
- 17:15Speaker 1: Cody Campbell because he's got an emotional attachment. I can
- 17:18Speaker 1: only guess John Tyson's life is the same whether Arkansas
- 17:21Speaker 1: wins one game or 12 games.
- 17:23Speaker 2: And I want to bet that Cody Campbell is also
- 17:25Speaker 2: involved in a lot of these roster moves.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And Tyson, he's almost playing Jerry Jones. Yeah, and that's
- 17:32Speaker 1: the thing.
- 17:32Speaker 2: These billionaires also are very successful because they're very involved
- 17:36Speaker 2: with their money. With their company, and they don't want
- 17:38Speaker 2: to get involved with the football program. But does the
- 17:40Speaker 2: football program even want them involved?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Do they want Mr.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Tyson to come up and say, hey, this is the
- 17:45Speaker 2: quarterback you need to go out and get. This is
- 17:47Speaker 2: the guy I'll pay for.
- 17:47Speaker 1: The video circulating of Irsay's daughter walking up to a coach,
- 17:51Speaker 1: tapping a coach. Well, it looks like a coach, staff member.
- 17:54Speaker 1: on the shoulder asking about a play. Why don't we
- 17:56Speaker 1: call that play? Can you tell me why we call
- 17:57Speaker 1: that play? She's got a play sheet. She's on the sidelines. Hey,
- 17:59Speaker 1: but it's her investment. I mean, I think it looks crazy.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I get it, but go back to your vodka and tonic. No,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I'm with you. I wouldn't want that if I'm the coach,
- 18:06Speaker 1: but she's personally invested, like this Tyson guy. I mean,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I doubt he wants to deal with roster moves, but
- 18:14Speaker 1: when people invest that kind of money, they want to
- 18:16Speaker 1: have some say. Yeah, but if he did step it
- 18:18Speaker 1: up and he's like, you know what?
- 18:19Speaker 2: I am going to give $ 25 million a year for football.
- 18:23Speaker 1: How different could it become? Arkansas would change overnight. Well,
- 18:27Speaker 1: that's what they're hoping happens. And, you know, Brandon Marcello
- 18:32Speaker 1: of CBS, who lives in the area, has written extensively
- 18:35Speaker 1: about what they did wrong that sort of pissed off
- 18:38Speaker 1: the Walmart folks. So it was the regent. The Walmarts
- 18:40Speaker 1: were publicly backing the Waltons, were publicly backing a candidate
- 18:45Speaker 1: for the regent of the university system. And they hired
- 18:47Speaker 1: a different guy, and apparently there were some hurt feelings.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I think I would have hired the guy the Waltons
- 18:51Speaker 1: were backing. How did you not, right? How did you
- 18:53Speaker 1: not hire the guy the Waltons were backing?
- 18:54Speaker 2: We know how the world works.
- 18:56Speaker 1: That's part of it. By the way, Cody Campbell, with
- 18:59Speaker 1: a great reply on Twitter, let me tell you something.
- 19:02Speaker 1: This SOB has plenty of chickens. The difference is Joey
- 19:06Speaker 1: McGuire of Texas Tech. Money is money, but football is
- 19:08Speaker 1: still football. I mean, think about it like this.
- 19:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Do you think you buy more chicken in a week
- 19:13Speaker 2: or fill up your gas?
- 19:15Speaker 1: I buy more oil than chicken for sure. Well, it's
- 19:17Speaker 1: about 50-50 for me. It's pretty close. But most of
- 19:21Speaker 1: my money goes to oil and chicken.
- 19:24Speaker 2: But, Jeeves, I mean, how many chickens are we killing
- 19:26Speaker 2: a year?
- 19:26Speaker 1: It's crazy. I don't know if you guys have ever
- 19:28Speaker 1: seen this. You don't want to do the math. Here's
- 19:31Speaker 1: how you look at this, though. I got to have
- 19:33Speaker 1: the oil to get to the chickens. I don't have
- 19:35Speaker 1: to have the chickens to get to the oil. What
- 19:37Speaker 1: came first?
- 19:38Speaker 6: Just in the United States, it's approximately 8 billion to
- 19:42Speaker 6: 10 billion chickens each year.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And that doesn't make sense. That is a... Because it's my...
- 19:50Speaker 1: 350 million, right? Yeah. But is my chicken breast at Chick-fil-A,
- 19:55Speaker 1: is that a breast of chicken? Or is that chicken
- 19:57Speaker 1: that's formed into a breast? That's a great question. You
- 20:00Speaker 1: know what I'm asking? I do not know the answer
- 20:01Speaker 1: to that.
- 20:01Speaker 6: Now, I think for Chick-fil-A, that is whole breast.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But then if you go to like... You know, some
- 20:08Speaker 1: very consistent.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Let's say I go to Dairy Queen to get a
- 20:11Speaker 2: chicken sandwich.
- 20:12Speaker 6: I don't know what they use, but a lot of
- 20:14Speaker 6: times when you get nuggets, if it's like perfectly consistent,
- 20:18Speaker 6: like at, you know, a restaurant that has golden arches.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Oh, you're getting a beak in it. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:25Speaker 6: It's... Have you seen the.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Let me pull it up. Yeah, there's sometimes... But anyway,
- 20:29Speaker 1: do the math. I mean, how many billion did he
- 20:31Speaker 1: say are bidding... Getting killed? Eight billion. Eight to ten billion.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Okay, and we've got 350 million, so how much chicken
- 20:36Speaker 2: are we eating?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Well, I think some of that's also getting exported, though. Like,
- 20:40Speaker 1: we're exporting a lot of it. That's not eight billion
- 20:42Speaker 1: chickens killed for us to eat. Well, there are chickens
- 20:44Speaker 1: all over the world. Well, there are, but I think
- 20:46Speaker 1: we export a lot. Is it the most important bird
- 20:49Speaker 1: in the world? Yeah. Yeah, it's got to be. I mean,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I don't even know what's second, Jim. The bald eagle
- 20:55Speaker 1: for us. Is it the most important? I don't want
- 20:58Speaker 1: to see this.
- 21:00Speaker 6: At the Golden Arches, the pink slime picture, that's not real.
- 21:04Speaker 6: But this is what happens. It's just all ground together
- 21:07Speaker 6: and then mixed. So that way it's a homogenous.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Literally don't want to see how the sausage is made.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Literally don't want to see.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Well, that's chicken.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'm well aware. That's how they make their nuggets?
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Burger King's working or theirs. I don't know if you've
- 21:18Speaker 1: seen the commercial.
- 21:19Speaker 5: I have, yes.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to ask you. They bring all those
- 21:21Speaker 1: people in to eat a free lunch.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I give you $ 10, 000 cash right now, but everything is
- 21:25Speaker 2: laid out that you've eaten that you don't realize you've eaten.
- 21:27Speaker 1: No. Oh, no. I don't want to know. Fingers, toes.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I've got to eat again.
- 21:31Speaker 7: Tongues.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I've got to eat again. I think you've done that
- 21:34Speaker 1: once for me in my household. My wife was a
- 21:37Speaker 1: vegetarian for 18 months.
- 21:39Speaker 2: No, I watched one documentary.
- 21:42Speaker 1: One documentary. Food Inc. or whatever it was. And by
- 21:44Speaker 1: the way, it sat on my sports room table for weeks.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I never watched it because I knew I liked steak
- 21:51Speaker 1: too much. She watched it and didn't eat steak for
- 21:54Speaker 1: 18 months. It affected me for a day. Can we
- 21:56Speaker 1: hear the guy? Have we got time? Sure. I mean,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I just want to know if he was joking. He
- 22:01Speaker 1: did lie. Here is the, let me get his name again.
- 22:05Speaker 1: John Tyson. John Tyson of Tyson Foods at the Little
- 22:08Speaker 1: Rock Touchdown Club.
- 22:09Speaker 2: When you look at those other guys and what Cody
- 22:11Speaker 2: Campbell has done at Texas Tech, I mean, he's completely
- 22:14Speaker 2: by himself changed that whole program.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Well, he's got oil, I've got chickens. So we'll start there.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, that's a joke you make when
- 22:32Speaker 1: you're like, guys, I'm not going to beat Cody Campbell.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Y'all can beg me to beat Cody Campbell all you want.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I'm not going to be Cody King.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I mean, you know, the question is somewhat tacky.
- 22:43Speaker 1: That's what bothered me.
- 22:44Speaker 2: I guess somebody's got to ask it, though, but maybe
- 22:47Speaker 2: over a bourbon.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks for coming up right here in front of
- 22:50Speaker 1: all these people. I hope he ran it by him
- 22:51Speaker 1: early on. Well, yeah, you never know. Tyson may have
- 22:54Speaker 1: wanted to say that line. Yeah, I think he probably did.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Felt very prepared. Yeah. His laugh, by the way, is
- 23:00Speaker 1: exactly like that guy. That's what I thought of from
- 23:03Speaker 1: the Simpsons. He laughed exactly like that guy laughs. It
- 23:07Speaker 1: was insane. All right. Some sad news. We'll do upset
- 23:11Speaker 1: alert in the next segment. We go to break here
- 23:13Speaker 1: with the passing of Dennis Franchoni, one-time Alabama coach.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Damn, I did not know that.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, 75 years old. I think the announcement has come
- 23:21Speaker 1: this morning. It has, yeah. That Dennis Franchoni has passed away.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I have not looked at any of the details yet,
- 23:28Speaker 1: but there was a time after his time at Texas
- 23:32Speaker 1: A & M that he battled depression tremendously. A short
- 23:37Speaker 1: time in In Tuscaloosa, the guy who actually had me
- 23:41Speaker 1: over his house and said, hey, I want you to
- 23:42Speaker 1: host the my coaches show. And I did for one year.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And then then he left. He had received a diagnosis
- 23:51Speaker 1: of cancer in a kidney in 2016. He worked back
- 23:57Speaker 1: and then he received another cancer diagnosis in 2021, but
- 24:01Speaker 1: went into remission after treatment. But he has passed away
- 24:04Speaker 1: now at, what was his age? 75 years old. A
- 24:09Speaker 1: guy that, because of his exit, is not a beloved
- 24:13Speaker 1: Alabama coaching figure. No, but I thought he was a
- 24:15Speaker 1: really good football coach. And, you know, the first year
- 24:17Speaker 1: at Alabama, he was kind of digging out of the
- 24:20Speaker 1: mess DuBose had left, won the Iron Bowl, finished on
- 24:23Speaker 1: a high note. That second year at Alabama, that was
- 24:25Speaker 1: a good football team. Really good football team.
- 24:27Speaker 2: And, you know, it's kind of unexplainable. I mean, it's
- 24:30Speaker 2: a rivalry game against Auburn, but you know, if they
- 24:32Speaker 2: win that game, you look back on that season and
- 24:34Speaker 2: they seem like one of the best two, three, four
- 24:37Speaker 2: teams in college football.
- 24:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And people did not like the way he exited, Jim.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I think his... I know I didn't. No, I'm sure
- 24:44Speaker 1: you didn't. You were lied to. One of the worst
- 24:46Speaker 1: days in my broadcasting career. And unfortunately lied to you.
- 24:49Speaker 1: But I also, you know, I think his side of
- 24:52Speaker 1: the story privately had always been he was misled on
- 24:56Speaker 1: He felt like he was misled on how severe the
- 24:58Speaker 1: sanctions were going to be, and he did not want
- 25:00Speaker 1: to stick around and fight through that because he had
- 25:03Speaker 1: not made a decision to take the job to fight
- 25:05Speaker 1: through that. And whether he was misled or not, I
- 25:08Speaker 1: don't know. But I was really surprised it didn't work
- 25:10Speaker 1: at A & M. He was better at Texas A &
- 25:12Speaker 1: M than I remember him being, according to the stats here.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I think it was eight wins a year, much like
- 25:17Speaker 2: most Texas.
- 25:18Speaker 3: A & M coaches.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Well, he had that one bad Oklahoma game that stands out.
- 25:20Speaker 1: 32-28 in five seasons, three bowl games. Texas A &
- 25:26Speaker 1: M defeated Texas in the final regular season game in 2007,
- 25:30Speaker 1: and then Franchoni resigned from his position after that win there.
- 25:34Speaker 1: But that was surprising that he was 32-28. In his
- 25:37Speaker 1: five seasons there.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I think that was satisfying for Alabama fans.
- 25:41Speaker 1: It was. That Oklahoma game. It was 77-3, wasn't it?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Something like that. In which the Oklahoma band played the
- 25:46Speaker 1: Alabama fight song. That's always been the urban legend. I've
- 25:48Speaker 1: never known if that was true. No, I heard. We
- 25:50Speaker 1: played the audio at NBC 13. Did you really? They
- 25:53Speaker 1: really played the Alabama fight song? They played the Alabama
- 25:55Speaker 1: fight song. I mean, how petty is that? That is
- 25:57Speaker 1: quite petty. You get your band to learn that? That
- 25:59Speaker 1: is quite petty.
- 25:59Speaker 2: You know what we're going to do today? Learn the
- 26:01Speaker 2: Alabama fight song.
- 26:01Speaker 1: We're not playing Alabama. I know. And that's amazing.
- 26:04Speaker 2: The band knew that they were going to whip his ass.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Keith says the way he exited then is the new normal,
- 26:08Speaker 1: which is true. There's been 100 coaches that have done
- 26:11Speaker 1: exactly what Dennis Franchoni did. Oh, yeah. Since he did it.
- 26:14Speaker 1: What was his gold letter or whatever? You guys remember that?
- 26:16Speaker 1: He had like an insider. Oh, Mike McKenzie was the
- 26:20Speaker 1: guy's name.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:21Speaker 1: And he would send a letter out to whoever, I guess,
- 26:23Speaker 1: supporters or whatever. Mike McKenzie still living? I could not
- 26:27Speaker 1: tell you.
- 26:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:29Speaker 1: For some reason, I think he passed. He was kind
- 26:32Speaker 1: of his media arm, basically. It was the first time
- 26:34Speaker 1: I'd ever seen a coach have one of those. And
- 26:35Speaker 1: I've told this story before, but we would do the
- 26:37Speaker 1: coaches show on Sundays then. And at our desk, a
- 26:40Speaker 1: lot like this. Huge desk. And with Mike Shula after that,
- 26:46Speaker 1: Shula would sit with me. We'd watch the highlights. It
- 26:49Speaker 1: was a lot of highlights back then. They do it
- 26:51Speaker 1: differently when Saban got there and the way they do
- 26:52Speaker 1: it now. But we'd watch. It was an hour show,
- 26:55Speaker 1: if I remember correctly, or maybe it was 30 minutes.
- 26:57Speaker 1: We'd watch a ton of highlights, and then the coaches
- 26:59Speaker 1: would talk over almost every play of the game. And
- 27:04Speaker 1: then we'd sit and talk about the game and talk
- 27:06Speaker 1: about the highlights. And Franchoni would never come in and
- 27:10Speaker 1: sit with me. He asked for me to host the show.
- 27:13Speaker 1: He would never come in in advance and sit with
- 27:15Speaker 1: me to watch the highlights. He'd watch them in another room,
- 27:18Speaker 1: and McKenzie would come back and forth and tell me
- 27:21Speaker 1: things that Coach wanted to bring up over this highlight.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Wow.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Here's what Coach wants you to ask him, what you
- 27:27Speaker 1: want to talk about. Meanwhile, Nick Saban, greatest ever do it.
- 27:31Speaker 1: We stopped doing the highlights. He would come down, and
- 27:34Speaker 1: he was like, let's make this as quick as possible.
- 27:36Speaker 1: So he'd basically do intro, comment before the break, outro,
- 27:40Speaker 1: and he was gone. My whole hosting of the Nick
- 27:42Speaker 1: Saban Show. Welcome into the Nick Saban Show. He's Nick Saban.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I'm Jim Dunaway. Alabama wins it tonight, 34-3. Coach, big
- 27:51Speaker 1: win here at home.
- 27:52Speaker 5: Da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Here's Eli with the first half highlights.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, are coaches even doing these shows anymore?
- 28:00Speaker 1: I don't know. I think they've turned into— They used
- 28:03Speaker 1: to be a big deal, obviously.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I mean, I remember the Bear Bryant coaching show.
- 28:06Speaker 1: What he used to do is in front of a
- 28:07Speaker 1: live studio audience. Did you know that? Yes. That's crazy
- 28:10Speaker 1: to think about. At a local TV station. You don't
- 28:13Speaker 1: have a live studio audience. They'd clap, you know, coach.
- 28:15Speaker 2: No, well, you think about the money you probably could
- 28:17Speaker 2: get for that for NIL right now.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Bear Bryant would record his in Birmingham at different TV
- 28:23Speaker 1: stations over the time, but I think it was at
- 28:25Speaker 1: NBC 13 for most of the Bear Bryant show. You
- 28:30Speaker 1: think Bourbon was in that coke? He would stay in Birmingham,
- 28:35Speaker 1: even if the game, he'd come to Birmingham, if the
- 28:36Speaker 1: game was in Tuscaloosa, if the game was at Legion Field,
- 28:38Speaker 1: he'd stay in Birmingham. I think it was Michael's or
- 28:42Speaker 1: others down on, it used to be a strip. You're
- 28:44Speaker 1: right about that. They'd have a room upstairs and they
- 28:46Speaker 1: would eat and play cards and talk and everything. And
- 28:50Speaker 1: many times I heard that he would come straight from
- 28:52Speaker 1: that room to record on a very early Sunday morning,
- 28:55Speaker 1: the Bear Bryant show. Which probably. Which by the way,
- 28:58Speaker 1: made the golden flake chips all more important because we
- 29:00Speaker 1: all had munchies at that point.
- 29:01Speaker 2: You think any working girls ever went through that top room?
- 29:05Speaker 1: I was never there. I could not comment. Dennis Franchoni
- 29:10Speaker 1: passing away at the age of 75, a one-time Alabama coach.
- 29:15Speaker 1: We'll do Upset Alert when we come back. This is
- 29:17Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State.

- 30:30Speaker 1: a proud sponsor of Sporting State. Upset alert time. We
- 30:34Speaker 1: do upset alert every week on the show. We'll show
- 30:37Speaker 1: you the rules here in a second before Esther throws
- 30:39Speaker 1: up the flashing light to let everybody know we're to
- 30:42Speaker 1: the upset alert. The rules are pretty simple. It gets
- 30:45Speaker 1: tougher as the year goes on because I cannot tell
- 30:47Speaker 1: you how many three and a half point lines there
- 30:51Speaker 1: are this week. There has to be It has to
- 30:53Speaker 1: be seven or eight lines that are three and a half.
- 30:56Speaker 1: A significant number, three and a half, is in the
- 30:58Speaker 1: gambling world, right?
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, you don't want it to be on three.
- 31:05Speaker 2: You want to get it off three, so yeah. So
- 31:07Speaker 2: three and a half is a big number. We play
- 31:09Speaker 2: the minimum spread at four and a half. Five points
- 31:12Speaker 2: for a cover, five points plus the spread for an
- 31:17Speaker 2: outright winner. Who were the outright winners last week, Forrester?
- 31:22Speaker 2: Do we have a couple? Oh, everybody got one.
- 31:26Speaker 1: How about that? So everybody but me and Brown got
- 31:31Speaker 1: one last week. Is that correct? Mine covered. I did
- 31:33Speaker 1: not get the outright win. But you've had an outright
- 31:35Speaker 1: win this year.
- 31:35Speaker 6: I have.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I had one week one.
- 31:37Speaker 5: I definitely did not get one.
- 31:39Speaker 7: I made possibly the worst pick in the history of
- 31:44Speaker 7: our upset alerts.
- 31:45Speaker 1: My team lost 34-7 after my team losing 35-6 last week. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 1: but listen to Scott. I'm being outscored at a tremendous rate.
- 31:54Speaker 5: I can beat that. I promise.
- 31:56Speaker 7: The defensive coordinator of the team that I picked in
- 32:00Speaker 7: upset alert got fired in the first quarter of the.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Game walked off the field technically he was relieved of
- 32:08Speaker 1: his duties of calling plays not fired he then quit
- 32:11Speaker 1: yeah that's that's that's pretty amazing i've never in my
- 32:14Speaker 1: life seen that one yeah have you seen the colorado
- 32:16Speaker 1: state jim more yeah you've seen the video yeah he
- 32:19Speaker 1: is laying into it heard the uh post-game press conference
- 32:22Speaker 1: too that he wasn't i just relieved him of his
- 32:24Speaker 1: duties i didn't kick him off the coaching staff he
- 32:27Speaker 1: decided tyson decided to leave and uh And that's on him.
- 32:30Speaker 1: He's no longer with our program. So I would assume
- 32:33Speaker 1: in H.R. that is he quit. Yeah. He wasn't.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Way to do it. Yeah. So there are the rules
- 32:42Speaker 1: four and a half in the standings one more time.
- 32:44Speaker 1: So everybody has one outright win. That includes Brooks. Your
- 32:47Speaker 1: first one in two years. Right. Just the first one ever. Yeah.
- 32:51Speaker 1: As an employee up here. So that's two years. Right.
- 32:54Speaker 1: So tell me who was your winner.
- 32:57Speaker 8: My winner last week was, oh my God, I forgot
- 33:00Speaker 8: who it was.
- 33:01Speaker 1: It wasn't Scott. I got a lot going on in
- 33:03Speaker 1: my brain. It wasn't Scott.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Minnesota.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Minnesota, that's right.
- 33:06Speaker 8: I picked the Golden Gophers and I was watching the game.
- 33:10Speaker 8: So yeah, I just forgot who it was. But yeah, Minnesota.
- 33:14Speaker 8: Had a feeling and you know. They delivered for me.
- 33:18Speaker 1: And LT had an outright winner.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and Missouri, easy, easy outright winner. I still can't
- 33:24Speaker 2: get over Miami of Ohio blowing that game against Cincinnati.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Had a 28-point lead. If I've got that, I'm on
- 33:29Speaker 2: top of the standings right now.
- 33:32Speaker 1: At one point, we've done this for years and years.
- 33:35Speaker 1: At one point, because I thought about this as I
- 33:37Speaker 1: was watching Missouri kill Florida. At one point was our
- 33:41Speaker 1: upset alert. I thought it was. The margin of victory.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:45Speaker 1: At one point it was. It was. Back in the day.
- 33:47Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 33:47Speaker 1: To where LT not only would have gotten five points
- 33:50Speaker 1: for the win. I would have gotten 28 for the game.
- 33:52Speaker 1: He would have gotten 28 points because of the massive
- 33:55Speaker 1: blowout it ended up being. So now we just add
- 33:57Speaker 1: in the point spread, right? Yeah, now it's just the
- 33:59Speaker 1: point spread. I think we did that to encourage you
- 34:00Speaker 1: to get out there occasionally on point spreads and not
- 34:03Speaker 1: just hover around the four and a halves and stuff
- 34:05Speaker 1: like that. But the fact that you not only covered
- 34:08Speaker 1: and it was a blowout, would have been a game-changing statistical... anomaly,
- 34:14Speaker 1: if you will, Missouri beating Florida that bad. So with
- 34:17Speaker 1: all that said, let's run through this week's upset alert. LT,
- 34:21Speaker 1: despite the win, you're still tied down at the bottom,
- 34:24Speaker 1: but at very close standings now. Why don't you start
- 34:26Speaker 1: us off? Who's your winner this week? So it looked
- 34:29Speaker 1: like Virginia Tech was about to go to 5-0. Do
- 34:32Speaker 1: you have this? No, I wanted it so bad, and
- 34:34Speaker 1: I was like, ah, I started it.
- 34:35Speaker 2: It looks like Virginia Tech was about to go to 5-0.
- 34:37Speaker 2: They missed the field goal after a 14-point lead. Believe
- 34:40Speaker 2: it or not, Cal is not played well. They're 2-3
- 34:44Speaker 2: on the season, but they have led in all five
- 34:45Speaker 2: of their games. They're 1-4 against the number, but Virginia
- 34:49Speaker 2: Tech going all the way from Blacksburg, all the way
- 34:51Speaker 2: to Berkeley, a weird day game for Cal. I do
- 34:55Speaker 2: like Sagapula Telly playing well. He hasn't played great this year.
- 34:59Speaker 5: Look at you.
- 34:59Speaker 1: But I think he plays well here.
- 35:01Speaker 2: And I think Cal gets the outright win over Virginia Tech.
- 35:06Speaker 1: 100% that hits now. By the way, I... The fact
- 35:07Speaker 1: that I wanted it and didn't play it. One take bear.
- 35:10Speaker 1: It's not bad, is it?
- 35:11Speaker 5: Not terrible.
- 35:11Speaker 1: That's Oski, I think they call him. I don't know.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Oski or Oski.
- 35:14Speaker 5: It is Oski.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Oski. Thank you, Scott. It is the most... I messed
- 35:18Speaker 1: up on my L on my Cal. It's the most seen.
- 35:21Speaker 1: As a guy who plays EA Sports College football, it
- 35:24Speaker 1: is the most cut to mascot. They go to Husky
- 35:26Speaker 1: a lot.
- 35:26Speaker 5: A lot.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 35:27Speaker 2: During Cal games. Has he ever won the MasterCard mascot thing?
- 35:31Speaker 1: I don't know. What about the Livmont student section? I
- 35:34Speaker 1: don't know if somebody in Silicon Valley is a Cal
- 35:38Speaker 1: grad that designed the way the game is played, but
- 35:42Speaker 1: they cut to the Cal mascot a lot if you're
- 35:45Speaker 1: playing Cal.
- 35:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:46Speaker 1: That's interesting. Interesting. You're probably right. Being in Silicon Valley
- 35:49Speaker 1: is probably a Cal fan. Yeah, but it goes a lot.
- 35:52Speaker 1: We're going to show.
- 35:52Speaker 6: Us shocking with the old NBA jam. The developer of
- 35:57Speaker 6: the game was a big Bulls fan and or no,
- 36:00Speaker 6: excuse me. He was a big Pistons fan. And so
- 36:02Speaker 6: if you played the Bulls against the Pistons, you would
- 36:04Speaker 6: miss every last second buzzer beater.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Oh, that sucks. That works good.
- 36:08Speaker 6: Nobody knew until 20 years later.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I like that.
- 36:11Speaker 2: What a bunch of bullshit.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Brooks, can you go two for two? The other guy,
- 36:17Speaker 1: like Lance, that got a winner last week. Who do
- 36:19Speaker 1: you have?
- 36:20Speaker 8: They have not played well this year, but they've won
- 36:22Speaker 8: five in a row against the Duke Blue Devils. I'm
- 36:25Speaker 8: going to go Georgia Tech coming off a bye at home.
- 36:28Speaker 8: Plus seven and a half against.
- 36:29Speaker 1: The Duke Blue Devils. I know Duke's 4-0.
- 36:31Speaker 8: They maybe should be ranked according to Danny Cannell, but
- 36:36Speaker 8: I like Tacking an upset this week.
- 36:40Speaker 1: It feels like a good pick there. At some point, right,
- 36:44Speaker 1: they've got to play better. They're too good of a
- 36:46Speaker 1: team to play as bad as they do. Well coached.
- 36:48Speaker 8: And, you know, I don't know. Albert Mendoza has not
- 36:51Speaker 8: been great so far this year.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Did you say well coached? I think he is a
- 36:56Speaker 1: good coach.
- 36:56Speaker 8: I think they've just not played well.
- 36:59Speaker 1: I think he's a good coach. I'm wondering about his
- 37:01Speaker 1: offensive coordinator hire. Replacing Buster Faulkner. They are the worst
- 37:07Speaker 1: team in the ACC. I don't even know if you
- 37:09Speaker 1: can debate it. Stanford, Lance, is really bad. Stanford just
- 37:11Speaker 1: beat them, though. I know. At home.
- 37:14Speaker 5: I know.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Sometimes the best team doesn't win a specific game. Stanford
- 37:18Speaker 1: has been so bad in all the rest of their games.
- 37:21Speaker 1: But you're right. It's a battle. I don't know which one. Yeah.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I'll go next. I'm riding with Klatt this week. It's
- 37:28Speaker 1: a tough rivalry game. Best team doesn't always win. I
- 37:35Speaker 1: pictured John Mateer, who played in this game, injured last year.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I can just see him doing enough and putting on
- 37:42Speaker 1: the golden cowboy hat when it's all said and done.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Is that what that is up top, the golden cowboy hat? No,
- 37:49Speaker 1: that's the downward horns. Oh, I thought that was a wig. Yeah,
- 37:52Speaker 1: I thought it was a wig too, like the Lego,
- 37:54Speaker 1: the people you put the... Right, right, right, right. The
- 37:57Speaker 1: molded plastic hat. Now what is this? That looks like
- 37:59Speaker 1: a bird's nest. I thought it was a beard. That
- 38:03Speaker 1: is a deep fried Reese's cup, which is now at
- 38:06Speaker 1: the Texas state fair this year. You give me a
- 38:08Speaker 1: thousand guesses. I wouldn't have gotten it. Maybe it's a special.
- 38:12Speaker 1: It's my deep fried Reese's cup special. This would give
- 38:15Speaker 1: me Oklahoma plus eight and a half. The OU is
- 38:18Speaker 1: not bad there. And this game's always unpredictable. We go
- 38:21Speaker 1: back last year.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Remember Florida was up and down the field on Texas
- 38:25Speaker 2: very next week. Everybody was like, Oklahoma's going to win
- 38:28Speaker 2: this game. Texas goes out. Arch Manning plays well. They
- 38:31Speaker 2: dominate Oklahoma. I like where you are, but I've.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Gotten burned way too many times in Oklahoma. Lance has
- 38:37Speaker 1: sold Oklahoma, but I like your play right there. Really,
- 38:41Speaker 1: I try to do big block things so that Brock
- 38:43Speaker 1: can see it later on and comment, oh, Oklahoma, I.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Can see that.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Who's Jim got? Jim, why don't you have a, is
- 38:49Speaker 1: it the turd special? It does look that way on
- 38:53Speaker 1: the screen. It could be. The turd special is not
- 38:56Speaker 1: out of the realm of possibility there. And I'm horrible
- 38:58Speaker 1: at drawing a hand, apparently, too. Nobody recognized the upside down.
- 39:02Speaker 1: All right, that gets us to Forrester this week. Forrester,
- 39:05Speaker 1: what do you have, man?
- 39:07Speaker 5: All right. It went so well for me. Oh, there
- 39:10Speaker 5: goes the money.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 39:11Speaker 5: We're in shambles.
- 39:12Speaker 6: It's not the worst thing to happen.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. That was well down the list.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Yes.
- 39:19Speaker 5: We're in shambles earlier.
- 39:22Speaker 7: So last week, I picked a team that I had
- 39:25Speaker 7: never seen this season. I'm going to do it again
- 39:27Speaker 7: this week. We're going to Alton UCLA. They're going to.
- 39:35Speaker 5: Run up, run it up and down the field. That's
- 39:38Speaker 5: Wayne Knight throwing the stiff arm on the duck feathers
- 39:42Speaker 5: go flying. God. Bob Chesney's such a good-looking guy.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a good-looking coach. Look at him in those sunglasses.
- 39:49Speaker 1: It's uncomfortable.
- 39:50Speaker 2: They are fourth in the FBS in rushing, 282 yards
- 39:53Speaker 2: a game, and they're 4-0 against the number.
- 39:57Speaker 1: In my opinion, this will be a brutal beatdown, Forrester.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Oregon will beat the crap out of UCLA.
- 40:01Speaker 2: I think we're going to know a lot about Oregon.
- 40:03Speaker 2: If Oregon comes out and wins this game going away,
- 40:05Speaker 2: Oregon is back. I think the way they played in
- 40:07Speaker 2: the fourth quarter against USC, and we're going to see
- 40:12Speaker 2: how good Oklahoma State is, but UCLA....
- 40:16Speaker 1: I think they're good, but are they this good? Wayne
- 40:18Speaker 1: Knight taking the helmet off his ass. I don't think so.
- 40:22Speaker 1: By the way, Dante Moore back at practice. They could
- 40:26Speaker 1: be holed this week. He had helmet and pads and
- 40:30Speaker 1: ran through the workout.
- 40:32Speaker 2: There couldn't be different-looking Wayne Knights, by the way.
- 40:34Speaker 6: I agree.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I thought about UCLA, too, but I just couldn't trust
- 40:38Speaker 1: them against Oregon. Cal was my top choice. That's good.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I'd like to Georgia Tech, too.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Cal was your top choice, but you didn't play him.
- 40:46Speaker 1: It was my top choice, but I believed this one better. Well,
- 40:50Speaker 1: if you believe that one better, that's your top choice.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I've got one guy who texts me all the time, Kevin,
- 40:56Speaker 1: who listens to our show, and he tells me all
- 40:58Speaker 1: the time that Cal sucks, Cal sucks, Cal sucks. I
- 41:02Speaker 1: couldn't stop hearing him when I was going to pick them.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I mean, they do suck. Yeah. But you picked them.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Can they suck a little less at home against Virginia
- 41:11Speaker 2: Tech coming all the way across after that? Really, really
- 41:15Speaker 2: tough loss.
- 41:15Speaker 1: And my other, the play I wanted to play was
- 41:18Speaker 1: Texas A & M. Bandit, I know you're here. Texas
- 41:20Speaker 1: A & M, I couldn't find anywhere that was three
- 41:23Speaker 1: and a half. Not three and a half. I wanted
- 41:25Speaker 1: A & M at plus four. Did I get them
- 41:27Speaker 1: four and a half? Because I think A & M
- 41:29Speaker 1: goes in and beats the other one. Why did you
- 41:31Speaker 1: need four and a half if they're going to beat them? Well,
- 41:33Speaker 1: it's three and a half. It's a minimum. It's got
- 41:35Speaker 1: to be at least four or four and a half
- 41:37Speaker 1: for us to play them. I got you. So it
- 41:38Speaker 1: wasn't enough. But if it was four, you could play
- 41:40Speaker 1: it at four and a half. That's right. But it
- 41:41Speaker 1: was three and a half. I watched all morning long. Bandit,
- 41:44Speaker 1: what are you staring at? Your piece of shit special. Yes.
- 41:53Speaker 1: How much of the deep fried Reese's cup would you eat?
- 41:56Speaker 1: All of it. I'm starving. What's up, boys? How we
- 42:01Speaker 1: doing today? Doing great. I gave you, don't you look?
- 42:05Speaker 1: I don't know what it is. Real quick, Bandit.
- 42:09Speaker 2: He has blown the load on five different colors, or
- 42:12Speaker 2: at least.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Oh, here we go. These markers are shot. The marker
- 42:16Speaker 1: police back after the Bandit. You know why he's doing that?
- 42:19Speaker 1: Because he's at the bottom. If he was at the top,
- 42:20Speaker 1: he wouldn't care. Yeah. I would imagine it's some red,
- 42:24Speaker 1: some blue. Potentially. We'll tell you in a moment if
- 42:28Speaker 1: you won't get ahead.
- 42:30Speaker 8: Scott and I saw the bandit up here up until
- 42:32Speaker 8: about 3 o'clock working on this.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Oh, he's working overtime on this one.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Grabbed a gin, called police, get a welfare check. He's
- 42:40Speaker 1: not on the golf course. He's not at home.
- 42:42Speaker 5: We might have missed a tee time for this one.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Poor Jen's like, it's a Monday. Ryan's not playing golf today.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I wonder if he's having an affair.
- 42:50Speaker 5: Nope.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Driving logos, drawing logos. He has an affair with the
- 42:53Speaker 1: upset alert. Course closed on Mondays. I may as well
- 42:55Speaker 1: have one. I gave you another winner last week. That's
- 42:58Speaker 1: not why we're here though. I'm not here to give
- 42:59Speaker 1: you winners. Any idiot can give you winners as you
- 43:01Speaker 1: guys have shown. I'm here to give you outright winners,
- 43:04Speaker 1: which I'm going to do this week. And I've been
- 43:05Speaker 1: on this game all summer long. Now I watch the
- 43:09Speaker 1: show occasionally. Okay. I do catch a show occasion. It's
- 43:11Speaker 1: very entertaining. Um, Dunaway, the guy that does all the
- 43:16Speaker 1: stat stuff in the back. Brooks, is that his name? Yeah,
- 43:19Speaker 1: Brooks does our graphics and a bunch of stats. Because
- 43:21Speaker 1: I always hear you say, like, Brooks, can you see
- 43:23Speaker 1: since the fall of the Roman Empire how many lunar
- 43:25Speaker 1: eclipses we've had? You do stuff like that for Brooks. 14.
- 43:29Speaker 1: And Brooks found that number. So, Brooks, I'm going to
- 43:31Speaker 1: bring you into my pick. Who's got the longest win
- 43:33Speaker 1: streak in the nation right now, Brooks? The Indiana Hoosiers.
- 43:36Speaker 1: And how many games is that? 21. And that's where
- 43:40Speaker 1: it ends, boys. We're going Nebraska. Catching seven and a
- 43:45Speaker 1: half at home. The old happy corn husker is going
- 43:48Speaker 1: to give Indiana some hardcore corn. That was going to
- 43:53Speaker 1: be my Friday headline. I've got to write a new
- 43:55Speaker 1: headline now. Some hardcore corn coming Indiana's way. Blocked in
- 43:59Speaker 1: some states.
- 44:00Speaker 6: Nebraska.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Lance did say that you blew the load on this.
- 44:04Speaker 1: You'll have to prove your age to watch this one.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Seven and a half points Nebraska's getting. Tyler, I didn't
- 44:11Speaker 1: think you'd be able to do this today, but we
- 44:13Speaker 1: fixed it. We don't need them.
- 44:15Speaker 5: We don't need them.
- 44:16Speaker 1: We've got all their microphones back. Nebraska, seven and a half.
- 44:20Speaker 1: They win it outright. The win streak is over. It
- 44:23Speaker 1: sucks we don't have a good yellow. Hardest part about it.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Hair and corn. You've got enough. You did it with
- 44:29Speaker 1: the hair. Why didn't you do it with the corn?
- 44:31Speaker 1: It faded.
- 44:31Speaker 8: I got a good yellow back here on my desk.
- 44:34Speaker 1: That's a great time for me to find that out, Brooks.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 44:37Speaker 8: It's the old Crabby markers that no one else uses.
- 44:39Speaker 1: That's a pretty good corn husker. Thank you very much.
- 44:41Speaker 1: It really is. I like that logo. I think you
- 44:42Speaker 1: drew the face to look like you, though. Wait, let
- 44:49Speaker 1: me see the face. I don't think he looks like me. Well,
- 44:51Speaker 1: I mean, compared to the happy Cornhusker. He looks like
- 44:53Speaker 1: he's taking a mean shit. Look at that face.
- 44:55Speaker 6: He looks kind of presidential.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he does kind of look like a president. Brown
- 45:00Speaker 1: was class president five years running. Your face would look
- 45:04Speaker 1: like that, too, if your Cornhusker was coming out of
- 45:06Speaker 1: the side pocket like that. That's where they put it
- 45:08Speaker 1: in the logo. Big piece of corn. This is your
- 45:10Speaker 1: Peroni disease special. Is that what it is? No, it's
- 45:13Speaker 1: a beer, isn't it?
- 45:15Speaker 2: No, Peroni is a beer.
- 45:16Speaker 1: I do not think that's a beer. No, Peroni is
- 45:19Speaker 1: a beer, too.
- 45:19Speaker 5: No, Peroni is a beer.
- 45:20Speaker 1: It's both a beer and a disease. It's an Italian beer.
- 45:24Speaker 2: A crooked dick and an Italian beer.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Oh, they're the same name. Yeah, because I knew it
- 45:28Speaker 1: was a beer. I didn't think I got the disease correctly. Yeah.
- 45:31Speaker 1: You get one from drinking one. I do enjoy a
- 45:36Speaker 1: good Peroni. I've heard. Yeah, when I'm across the pond.
- 45:39Speaker 1: All right, that's our upset alert. We've got Nebraska... Cal
- 45:44Speaker 1: and Oklahoma in here. And then the back room, we
- 45:48Speaker 1: have UCLA and Brooks-Gavis Georgia Tech. So one of those
- 45:53Speaker 1: surely will pull an upset this week in week six
- 45:56Speaker 1: of college football. When we come back, some final thoughts
- 45:59Speaker 1: around college football on some ins and outs. Plus in
- 46:03Speaker 1: the NFL, good news for the Philadelphia Eagles. Not so
- 46:07Speaker 1: good news for the Seattle Seahawks. That's next on the
- 46:11Speaker 1: next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Coming up in our next round part of the show today,
- 46:16Speaker 1: Brock Hewitt will be with us, but also we'll talk
- 46:18Speaker 1: about a fascinating quarterback matchup in Tuscaloosa that involves Keelan
- 46:24Speaker 1: Russell and Gunnar Stockton. By the way, Colin Simmons, who's
- 46:29Speaker 1: part of the Red River this weekend, do you know
- 46:32Speaker 1: Decorian Moore of Oregon and Keelan Russell were all on
- 46:37Speaker 1: the same Duncanville high school team. I bet they won state.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I would hope. I hope they did. But that's a
- 46:44Speaker 1: pretty talented little high school team in Duncanville when you
- 46:47Speaker 1: got DeCorean Moore, Colin Simmons, and Keelan Russell there. And
- 46:51Speaker 1: by the way, Bryce Underwood was the number one rated
- 46:54Speaker 1: quarterback in that class with Keelan Russell. Keelan was number two.
- 46:57Speaker 2: You know, the one thing about Bryce coming out, and
- 46:59Speaker 2: if you saw him, and I've told the story a
- 47:01Speaker 2: million times, we were at that on three.
- 47:02Speaker 1: He already looked like an NFL quarterback.
- 47:05Speaker 2: But people talked about the competition coming out of Michigan,
- 47:08Speaker 2: the high school competition, and maybe not as good.
- 47:10Speaker 1: And you heard that about Arch, too. Well, because Arch
- 47:13Speaker 1: played small school private ball in Louisiana. But I always
- 47:17Speaker 1: pointed back, so did Peyton and so did Eli. And
- 47:20Speaker 1: things can change. It's been a long time between Peyton
- 47:22Speaker 1: and Eli and Arch. But it really didn't impact them. But,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you know, that Texas– But Texas high school football competition
- 47:34Speaker 1: has proven time and time again that it prepares you
- 47:38Speaker 1: for some big things. Interesting that we're in a world
- 47:41Speaker 1: now where we'll talk more about Keelan Russell in a second,
- 47:45Speaker 1: where Keelan Russell is doing what he's doing, and Bryce
- 47:48Speaker 1: Underwood is where he is with Michigan right now. A
- 47:51Speaker 1: couple of notes from the NFL. We'll get back to
- 47:53Speaker 1: college football when we go to our next round part
- 47:56Speaker 1: of the show today. You can follow us at Next
- 47:58Speaker 1: Round Live on all the platforms to continue watching us
- 48:00Speaker 1: or go back and catch us on replay. including where
- 48:03Speaker 1: you get our podcast for hours three and four, right
- 48:06Speaker 1: there at Spotify, at Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
- 48:09Speaker 1: In the NFL, good news for the Eagles, not a
- 48:13Speaker 1: serious injury for Saquon Barkley, or at least not as
- 48:16Speaker 1: serious as they first thought. He is week to week now,
- 48:19Speaker 1: and that is great news for the Eagles that struggle
- 48:21Speaker 1: for any offense. Well, it's great news because you lost
- 48:24Speaker 1: Tank Bigsby.
- 48:25Speaker 2: You're number two back, and you're down to Will Shipley
- 48:27Speaker 2: right now, and The Eagles team seems to be heading
- 48:31Speaker 2: in the wrong direction, and now I'm addicted to this
- 48:34Speaker 2: Philadelphia sports talk.
- 48:35Speaker 1: I got in the wrong thing for Lance yesterday. I
- 48:38Speaker 1: got in the car, and I had still left it
- 48:40Speaker 1: on WIP on SiriusXM, and I texted Lance and said,
- 48:42Speaker 1: you've got to get over there and listen. It was
- 48:45Speaker 1: meltdown city from their face.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Yeah and all it is is they don't talk about
- 48:49Speaker 2: you know LeBron is now a Philadelphia 76er they don't
- 48:51Speaker 2: care about the Phillies rearview mirror everything is Eagles everything
- 48:55Speaker 2: is killing Sirianni.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Right now Sirianni Jalen Hurts could you know he can't
- 48:59Speaker 1: even make all he can make is the easy throws.
- 49:01Speaker 2: I was listening last night on the way to the
- 49:02Speaker 2: New York butcher shop Hugh Douglas host a Monday night
- 49:05Speaker 2: show Landon Dickerson dropped by and I was listening to
- 49:08Speaker 2: them just cut it up about how bad this Philadelphia
- 49:11Speaker 2: offense is right now.
- 49:12Speaker 1: But that is good news. What does Landon say? He's
- 49:15Speaker 1: he's injured right now right what does he say and
- 49:17Speaker 1: he's still part of the team yeah.
- 49:18Speaker 2: He just you know they were talking about going to
- 49:20Speaker 2: London this week because they're you know going over there
- 49:22Speaker 2: to take on the Jags and they asked him if
- 49:24Speaker 2: he watched football and he's like no not really um
- 49:28Speaker 2: it was kind of a boring conversation yeah.
- 49:30Speaker 1: But they were saying i mean they were down on
- 49:31Speaker 1: jalen hurts on that one show right after our show
- 49:33Speaker 1: yesterday well i think what.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It's showing now is you know we always discount jalen
- 49:39Speaker 2: hurts he's a guy that's been to a couple of
- 49:40Speaker 2: super bowls he's won a super bowl but now he
- 49:43Speaker 2: doesn't have a lot of talent around him and he's
- 49:44Speaker 2: struggling yeah but.
- 49:46Speaker 1: That happens with a lot of quarterbacks right well because
- 49:49Speaker 1: the host was like matt stafford had a terrible game
- 49:51Speaker 1: but he gets a pass because he's matt stafford and
- 49:53Speaker 1: i wanted to say He's a Hall of Famer. That's
- 49:55Speaker 1: why he's getting the pass. We've seen him be a
- 49:57Speaker 1: Hall of Famer. Now, Hurts has won a Super Bowl.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but Stafford in that fourth quarter was unbelievable.
- 50:03Speaker 1: But the point the host was making is that Hurts
- 50:08Speaker 1: hampers an offensive coordinator. Like, you can't hold Sirianni responsible.
- 50:11Speaker 1: He's having to call plays for Jalen Hurts. And the
- 50:13Speaker 1: other guy was like, well, we never said this about
- 50:15Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts when we were going to the Super Bowl.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Everything was fine. Twice. Not once, twice.
- 50:19Speaker 2: But two years ago, Saquon was unbelievable. And I heard
- 50:22Speaker 2: somebody make kind of the comparison between Two years ago,
- 50:25Speaker 2: Saquon was what B. John Robinson is right now, and
- 50:28Speaker 2: then you had an A.J. Brown, and you had a
- 50:29Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts with a different offensive line, and when you
- 50:32Speaker 2: got into that third and short or fourth and short,
- 50:35Speaker 2: it was 100% a given. They were 0-2 in that
- 50:38Speaker 2: situation against the Rams on Sunday. It's just a completely
- 50:40Speaker 2: different offense, and I think Jalen's about to get really,
- 50:43Speaker 2: really exposed.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels returns this week for Washington. Seattle, in your
- 50:49Speaker 1: division with the Rams, LT, they've got some running back issues.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Jadarian Price now on the IR. Zach Charbonnet not back
- 50:56Speaker 1: yet with an ACL, so they are hurting at the
- 51:00Speaker 1: running back position. Meanwhile, the guy they let walk out
- 51:03Speaker 1: the door, the Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker. 537 yards
- 51:07Speaker 1: through four games. Is that tops in the NFL right now?
- 51:11Speaker 1: It might be. How is it not Bijan? Bijan played
- 51:15Speaker 1: his fifth game last night. Kenneth Walker is tops right now.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Through four games, hasn't played his fifth yet, but Bijan's
- 51:22Speaker 1: right there with him. You let that guy walk out
- 51:25Speaker 1: the door. Easy to say now, though. There were a
- 51:28Speaker 1: lot of factors that went into that. Very, very difficult
- 51:31Speaker 1: to give a lucrative contract. To a running back they
- 51:34Speaker 1: chose not to. They thought Jadarian Price would step right in.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Obviously injured now. Who did they sign yesterday? It was
- 51:40Speaker 1: a journeyman. Mixon. Joe Mixon. Okay. Former Cincinnati Bengal. Former
- 51:48Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengal. And Clemson Tiger? No. Oklahoma Sooner. Oklahoma Sooner.
- 51:54Speaker 2: But that's a big game this weekend. Obviously San Francisco
- 51:56Speaker 2: will do our power rankings tomorrow in the NFL. But
- 51:58Speaker 2: San Fran goes to Seattle.
- 52:00Speaker 1: 4-0 versus 3-1. So that's some NFL news. One final
- 52:05Speaker 1: note from the NFL. The guy who writes the media
- 52:08Speaker 1: stuff for The Athletic used to be with you. Richard Deitch? Nope, Marshawn. Oh,
- 52:12Speaker 1: Andrew Marshawn. Andrew Marshawn reporting that the CBS has worked
- 52:16Speaker 1: out a deal, they believe, and nobody's reporting yet with
- 52:18Speaker 1: Tony Romo that he's not coming back. He was still
- 52:21Speaker 1: owed $ 72 million on a 10-year, $ 180 million deal because
- 52:23Speaker 1: of lack of preparation and unreliability. They believe, according to
- 52:32Speaker 1: Andrew Marchand, they have gone down there and worked out
- 52:35Speaker 1: a settlement. And since there is no fight back lawsuit
- 52:40Speaker 1: or anything from Romo, they believe that he got most
- 52:43Speaker 1: of the $ 72 million he's still owed. which they say
- 52:47Speaker 1: for six years of service and $ 180 million, it could
- 52:51Speaker 1: be one of the worst sports contracts of all time. Well,
- 52:53Speaker 1: now he can be lazy. Not just in broadcasting. Of
- 52:56Speaker 1: all time. Of all time. So it doesn't look like
- 52:59Speaker 1: Romo's coming back to CBS. We'll come back on the
- 53:02Speaker 1: other side and talk some college football. That's it for
- 53:05Speaker 1: us live on Sports State. You guys have a great day.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Clay and Buck's up next.
