- 0:00Amelia Perez is too long for a hate watch.
- 0:02It's not even worth watching. You heard it here first.
- 0:05I hope. I hope we're recording because
- 0:08that's the stuff that the people need to hear.
- 0:13Fuck. It was so funny seeing it in a
- 0:17theater full of people. That like love film?
- 0:20Yeah. The Denver, the Denver Film
- 0:23Festival and everyone was there to like, you know, everyone was
- 0:26excited. I mean the tailor made it seem
- 0:28really cool. Yeah.
- 0:30And then you notice not a lot of dialogue, not a lot of music,
- 0:33just a lot of like. It was like every time that they
- 0:36started singing again, I was like.
- 0:37Oh fuck do. You normally like musicals.
- 0:42I'm normally fine with musicals. OK, You tolerate them?
- 0:45I'm fine with them. There are some musicals I like,
- 0:47some that I'm like, it's OK. But it was just sort of like, I
- 0:50would forget that it was a musical until they started
- 0:53singing again. And then I'd be like, Oh no.
- 0:55Penis to vagina. Penis to vagina.
- 1:01I saw, I saw a Muppets. Yeah, Jacob.
- 1:06'S gonna just step out for a SEC.
- 1:10He's jealous that he didn't write that song.
- 1:13Yeah, let's change operation. Operation I see, I see, I see.
- 1:23I've seen it. Two woman, woman, two man I've.
- 1:26Obviously in that clip like a million times, but I have not
- 1:29seen the whole thing. Oh my gosh.
- 1:32Wow, look. Wow, what an independent.
- 1:34Girl sniffing around, kind of checking things out.
- 1:38Is there goose shit because she's pretty passionate about.
- 1:40That Oh yeah, definitely OK. Well, see you later, girl.
- 1:45Yeah. Goose shit's back there.
- 1:52Now she's into the snacks. 00. Now that her heart rate has gone
- 1:56down by like a million, she. Said I need to re energize.
- 1:59I've just shaken out all of my energy, yeah.
- 2:05OK. I love this dog.
- 2:06All right. Are we good to go?

- 3:14the fun. I am so excited.
- 3:18Long overdue. My sweet, hilarious guest, Kate
- 3:21McLaughlin. Welcome.
- 3:23Hi, everybody. Hi.
- 3:24What are you up to? Kate, what's going on?
- 3:26Well, in the precise moment, I'm on dog sitting for Laney and
- 3:31that's why she's here. Yeah.
- 3:33You could guess that she doesn't like to be at the house by
- 3:35herself. And I could see that for her,
- 3:38she's got both separation anxiety and outside of house
- 3:42anxiety. She's got anxiety with you and
- 3:45without you, so you might as well have her with you.
- 3:47No winning with this little lady.
- 3:49So but yeah, I'm just, I'm excited for the new year.
- 3:52I'm very excited to be here. Oh my gosh, so excited to have
- 3:55you here and happy New year to you.
- 3:57Happy new year. What's going on with with
- 4:00Dyktopia? With you being funny on stage?
- 4:05Start with dyktopia. It's not happening.
- 4:08Oh, OK, so. You're already.
- 4:09That's not true. It's just that my.
- 4:11So you got a boyfriend and now you're done with Dyktopia?
- 4:14They kicked. Yeah.
- 4:15That's why Lee moved to New York.
- 4:17Yeah. I started sucking a Dick.
- 4:19Yeah, I'm. And I thought about a lot of
- 4:21people out. Of town, actually.
- 4:23Yeah, I was just going to say I was thinking about getting out
- 4:26of town the moment I heard. Yeah, well, get in line.
- 4:29You've got, you've got the nose piercing do imply that's how you
- 4:32feel. And Lee moved to New York and
- 4:36Dyctopia. Now it's just a couple times a
- 4:39year, Yeah, compared to our rigorous schedule when we both
- 4:42lived here. So I'm guessing, I mean, this is
- 4:45a real plan ahead. But yeah, I'm guessing when
- 4:47pride comes around. Well, mark your calendars,
- 4:50everybody. Girls gaze and Naze.
- 4:52It's coming around before you know it.
- 4:54Yeah, and if you want to DM me something weird about being
- 4:59bisexual, they're open always so.
- 5:02Always. Yeah, absolutely love that.
- 5:04If you have any questions for boyfriends of bisexual women,
- 5:09send them to. My God, Jared would fucking hate
- 5:12that. You should absolutely reach out
- 5:14to him. Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:16Tag him. Tag him in this.
- 5:18Share this with him. Yeah.
- 5:24Yeah. Oh, God bless him, God bless
- 5:27him. OK, so today we're talking about
- 5:29First Wives Club. Thank God.
- 5:32Tell me your history with this movie and why you wanted to talk
- 5:35about it today. This is, well, mostly.
- 5:38The recent passing of Diane Keaton has shook me to my core,
- 5:42'cause I I was like, legitimately upset.
- 5:46Even with someone I've She was mommy beyond a mother.
- 5:50It's just straight up mommy. She really was and.
- 5:54I am a huge fan of her and I've been watching a lot of her
- 5:57movies recently, but this was a movie that was like always on at
- 6:02our house. It was one of the few VHSS that
- 6:04we had that the whole family liked.
- 6:08I feel like it was on USA or TNT enough and it's just it was a
- 6:14staple growing up. I love that.
- 6:16Yeah, I love that. I feel like it's, it's kind of a
- 6:20rite of passage, this like millennial affinity with
- 6:25middle-aged divorced women. Like, I feel as though most
- 6:29people in our generation, like it's sort of the, it's the first
- 6:33wives club to Real Housewives pipeline where it's like we are
- 6:37fascinated by middle-aged women's stories because, you
- 6:40know, as Reese says, women's stories matter and middle-aged
- 6:44women, their stories especially matter.
- 6:46I just like, I feel like when I'm watching this movie, I'm
- 6:49with the girls. Yeah, and even though it was a
- 6:52mainstream movie, there was something like subversive about
- 6:55it. A Laney fucking idiot.
- 6:59Laney Sweet. Nick, look at this.
- 7:04OK, Is that good? Does that sound OK?
- 7:09I think there was something very subversive at the time of having
- 7:14three female roles that were like supposed to be middle-aged.
- 7:18Yes. Like, I thought that was very
- 7:20cool. Yeah.
- 7:21So. I agree.
- 7:23I think it's so cool that they took this this narrative that
- 7:28was later reserved just for teen movies like Mean Girls and John
- 7:34Tucker Must Die. These like Let's get revenge
- 7:37kind of movies. Which don't get me wrong, I love
- 7:39a teen movie, but I love that this is like.
- 7:42I mean first of all I just love watching a movie where wealth is
- 7:48no object. Oh, it's the best.
- 7:50It's like they're like auctioning off their stuff for.
- 7:55And when the hundreds of thousands and when they talk
- 7:57about being broke, it's like really different from when we
- 8:00talk about being broke. It's really different.
- 8:02They're like, my husband's taking everything and it's like.
- 8:04But I still have a brownstone. No more questions.
- 8:07They're like he's going to take $1,000,000, which is 150th of
- 8:11what I have, yeah. I Yes, it's that fantasy like
- 8:16that. All those women act in shows
- 8:17like that quite a bit, I think. And I love that about that.
- 8:20Nancy Meyers actually was was asked to direct it, but sadly
- 8:26she was doing The Parent Trap during that time.
- 8:29That makes perfect sense. That is such her world.
- 8:33And I wish that it had been her because I think.
- 8:35The director. The director was.
- 8:41Not Nancy Meyers. That much we know.
- 8:43That much we know. It was directed by Hugh Wilson
- 8:48and Hugh Wilson. Wilson.
- 8:50More like who? Wilson.
- 8:54Laney is shaking like we are getting kidnapped.
- 8:58Laney, do you know something that we don't?
- 9:00Whole couch is vibrating. Laney, does someone have a hit
- 9:06on you? Are, you know, something we
- 9:08don't? You really?
- 9:09Afraid of being filmed? Yeah, this is, she said.
- 9:12I'm in witness protection. I'm sorry my leg is just like
- 9:16jittering because her ass is rattling.
- 9:18So now, now you're going to start feeling nervous because
- 9:21you're like, why am I shaking? I'll forget she's there but like
- 9:25my one leg. Is going to town.
- 9:26It's just unsettling. Poor baby.
- 9:30Poor baby, both of you. It was based on a novel by
- 9:35Olivia Goldsmith, who tragically died during chin tuck.
- 9:40She like complications due to plastic surgery.
- 9:43Oh my God, isn't that so trigger?
- 9:462004 Yikes. I know, so sad.
- 9:50I mean, cause of course the iconic introductory scene to
- 9:55Goldie Hawn's character is she's sitting in the chair and Rob
- 10:00Reiner RIPRIP, he's the plastic surgeon, which any I love his
- 10:07little cameos in movies like this where you know that he just
- 10:10had a friend that was like, hey, will you pop in for a minute?
- 10:12Yeah, like you're delightful. Let's get you on screen.
- 10:15Yeah, everyone will love it. It just like brings a, it brings
- 10:20a really down from there. Like all the like the joking
- 10:22about plastic surgery, which I love when they're like, do you
- 10:25think she's had any work done? She goes, honey, she's a quilt.
- 10:28Yeah, that's a blanket statement, Yeah.
- 10:38Girl. I was so sorry.
- 10:43That's what happens when bisexual women get boyfriends.
- 10:47Not the first and I won't be the last.
- 10:49And I did not come to talk about First wives club to defend this.
- 10:56That's crazy. I think it's just because of the
- 11:00like, defensive nature of this dog on your lap.
- 11:03Yeah, that is letting everyone on edge.
- 11:05Everyone's a little on edge, so let's just kind of.
- 11:09Look at can you see my palms like jittering and holding her?
- 11:13Girl, it's gonna be OK. Like she's more of a because I
- 11:17said so fans. So she's upset, she's upset she
- 11:21wanted to do swingers instead today.
- 11:25She doesn't think women are funny.
- 11:27And they're not, so that's it's hard for her.
- 11:30Because she's like, well if you guys agree with me so fucking
- 11:32much, why are we talking? And why are we talking about
- 11:35this movie with funny women? So Robert Harling wrote the
- 11:40screenplay. Same writer as Steel Magnolias.
- 11:44The producer Scott Rudin was unhappy with the script.
- 11:47He took it to his friend Paul Rudnick.
- 11:49Who or Runic Rudnick? I don't know if I missed AD
- 11:53there. Anyway, he said he would do it
- 11:55as long as he was uncredited. But then Goldie Hawn also said
- 12:00that she was like the voice of the film.
- 12:03She's like, I came in and I was unhappy with it.
- 12:05It was too male bashing in her words.
- 12:09And she said they just listened to her and did what she wanted.
- 12:13So who knows who wrote this movie?
- 12:16What a. Weird thing to not take credit.
- 12:18For I know. It's like Disney for the longest
- 12:21time didn't take credit for The Nightmare Before Christmas.
- 12:23And it's like. And then when those Hot Topic
- 12:26shirts started popping off, they were like, we did that.
- 12:29They were like, that was me actually.
- 12:31Yeah, like a little bit, Yeah, a little bit like so interesting.
- 12:34One interesting thing about me You probably don't know this
- 12:37about me, but that was actually me, Disney to The Nightmare
- 12:43Before Christmas. When Larry David first moved to
- 12:46Hollywood, he told girls that he did the whistling at the
- 12:51beginning of The Andy Griffith Show.
- 12:54Shut up. And that was like.
- 12:56That was his thing, yeah. Holly wouldn't know it's me.
- 13:00As a way to, like, flirt, but like, you know, I used to do the
- 13:02whistling. Yeah.
- 13:03And they'd be like, can you do it now?
- 13:06And he'd be like, I'm resting my voice like.
- 13:08No, you cannot make that your thing if you cannot do it.
- 13:12It would be really funny if he was like a prodigy at whistling
- 13:16and was like, oh, I could make up a lie related to this because
- 13:19I can back it up. I.
- 13:20Think that before the Internet you could say whatever the fuck
- 13:23you wanted, that is. So true.
- 13:25Well, Oh my God, didn't. Even think about the actual
- 13:27research that would have to go go into that and that's what
- 13:30they were hoping to accomplish with no one directed this.
- 13:32Absolutely. They're like no one had anything
- 13:35to do with it. We all just blacked out and woke
- 13:38up and we made a movie. And all of a sudden a movie was
- 13:42made. They did talk a little bit in
- 13:46some in some articles about how they really prioritized comedy
- 13:51over narrative coherence. For instance, they go to the
- 13:55lesbian bar. Why?
- 13:56I don't care. It was.
- 13:57Fun. It was awesome.
- 13:58It was awesome that like, does her daughter not have a phone?
- 14:03It doesn't matter. She needed to go to the bar and
- 14:05track her down, she said. Where are the lesbians?
- 14:07That's where my daughter is. It was also a lot easier to do
- 14:10narrative things when cell phones weren't ubiquitous,
- 14:14because that is like a thing, right?
- 14:17People used to have to do if they wanted to talk to somebody.
- 14:20Right. They used to like show up to a
- 14:21place where they're like, I'm pretty sure this is where you'll
- 14:23be. The one gay bar in New York
- 14:25City. And the idea that Goldie Hawn's
- 14:30character had never been to a gay bar before, I thought, yeah.
- 14:32Well, maybe not a lesbian. Bar That's true.
- 14:36Yeah, that's true. But I did love that I loved the
- 14:40lesbian daughter. I love that she's just having a
- 14:44completely unrelated conversation with her mom and
- 14:46she's like, I'm a lesbian. Yeah.
- 14:48And then she said I'm going to choose a really inconvenient or.
- 14:52How did she say it? She said I'm going to wait for a
- 14:53perfect time to tell dad, like Christmas morning or his
- 14:56birthday. Just the the genre of I'm gay,
- 15:00go fuck yourself. Yeah.
- 15:02And I love that about her. And I love that she did
- 15:04weaponize it against him when she basically sold him out as as
- 15:09a mole and later said she he goes into the office to learn
- 15:14that his wife is buying him out of his ad agency.
- 15:18And she says I'm a lesbian. That was powerful.
- 15:21Very funny, yeah. And I just is that therapist so
- 15:26allowed to practice girl. No okay like absolutely not.
- 15:30She must have left her job. That's.
- 15:32So so that she. Could be with that man, yeah.
- 15:35Yeah. And you know what?
- 15:37That's a great thing to say because Diane Keaton character
- 15:40says, But you're my therapist, she said.
- 15:42But I'm a woman. Oh.
- 15:44My God, it's that's so crazy. I have needs too.
- 15:47Yeah, girl. Oh.
- 15:49Boy, that was that was my worst nightmare.
- 15:52But do people still sit away from their therapist?
- 15:56Do they face away in the way that Diane Keaton did in First
- 16:00Wives Club? I've.
- 16:01Been on Zoom therapy for so long that I don't know if that's just
- 16:05a trope or like a way to have therapy 'cause that's like a big
- 16:10cinematic. Trope, right?
- 16:12Is there somebody lying down on a couch facing away from the
- 16:16therapist who's in in an arm? I'd love to lay down and look at
- 16:19my therapist like, yeah, just kind of like side like flopped
- 16:22over. Yeah, that sounds ideal for
- 16:25healing. So sorry Laney.
- 16:28I'm so sorry for moving the couch.
- 16:30Slightly. She looked at you.
- 16:31It was like you killed. Her whole family, she said.
- 16:33She said, oh, there's. One obstacle here that is
- 16:37obviously very important to me. OK.
- 16:39Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:40Oh good, good girl, good. Girl.
- 16:42Good girl. So what was your relationship
- 16:45with this movie? Oh my gosh, thank you for
- 16:47asking. I have always loved this movie.
- 16:49I watched it growing up. I feel like it formed my love of
- 16:56the Nancy Meyers Cinematic Universe.
- 16:58Even though First Wives Club is not Nancy Meyers, it is kind of
- 17:01spiritually very Nancy Meyers the spiritual.
- 17:04Part of the Nancy Meyers Cinematic Universe.
- 17:07Absolutely. Yeah.
- 17:09Middle-aged women to whom money is no object.
- 17:13Whose? Stories matter.
- 17:15Wearing turtlenecks. Oh yes, and OK, wait, hold on.
- 17:18I got AI, got a cosplay as Diane Keaton for a moment, button up
- 17:22my shirt all the way and. I had a plan to wear like a vest
- 17:27and a brooch today and it all just fell apart.
- 17:30Yeah. Well, now, yeah, now I'm going
- 17:32to kind of just go back to how I normally am.
- 17:34But everyone you did know that for a moment I was channeling
- 17:38Diane and I will continue to in a non glass force, which is like
- 17:42a big. Diane Keaton thing that's.
- 17:44Kind of her big thing. Not and hats, glasses and hats,
- 17:47glasses and hats. But yeah.
- 17:50I recently rewatched this at my friend's Bachelorette party.
- 17:55Perfect. That is very funny.
- 17:57Like, I hope you have fun getting married.
- 17:59Yeah, it doesn't work out for a lot of people.
- 18:02And I was the one who was really pulling for this movie.
- 18:05They were like, what movie should we watch?
- 18:06I said, you know what, I'd really like to watch something
- 18:08the near and dear to my heart. Sorry that it's that in the 1st
- 18:135 minutes a woman kills herself. Oh God, I did forget that.
- 18:17That's how the whole fucking thing started.
- 18:19Played by stalker Channing. Fabulous.
- 18:22A fabulous woman. Yeah.
- 18:24I I thought it was so funny that these women, after being best
- 18:32friends in college, they all had matching necklaces, as we saw,
- 18:36You know, like stalker. Channing's character writes
- 18:40sweet letters to all of them. When they meet at the funeral,
- 18:47they forget each other's names. I know.
- 18:50They forget each other's names, but they remember the dance
- 18:53moves. Well, it's like that video of
- 19:00when Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett were so gig and Tony had
- 19:03Alzheimer's and he could still do fly me to the moon at the
- 19:06drop of a pin. And that's so true.
- 19:08Probably didn't know where his nose was.
- 19:10It's like, I think that it's some physical things just stay
- 19:14with you. Something Sometimes the music
- 19:16lives in you and the body keeps the score.
- 19:18He keeps the. Score And that's why they all
- 19:20could do the dance, even though they were like, what was your
- 19:22fucking name again? Yeah, exactly.
- 19:24That also might be a good representation of before social
- 19:27media, when people naturally leave your life.
- 19:31Right. She said you could have called
- 19:33and she said I'm unlisted. And that's the end of.
- 19:36It and that's the end. They'll never see each other
- 19:39again until someone dies and they see each other at a
- 19:41funeral. First Wives Club also does I
- 19:43think have the perfect amount of technology.
- 19:45Like yes, a lot of things are better in the modern world, but
- 19:49it that seems nice. Yeah, like.
- 19:52Some people you don't need to know what they're up to all the
- 19:55time. Imagine how annoying Goldie
- 19:58Hawn's character would have been on her socials.
- 20:02She would be. Selling us some vitamins.
- 20:06Oh, she'd be. Selling those Kardashian teas
- 20:09that make you shit. Yourself out of your mind?
- 20:11Yeah, like. She her cameos would be like 500
- 20:16bucks. Oh my.
- 20:17God, Oh my. God, it'd be tough.
- 20:19That would be really tough. It would be so tragic to she.
- 20:22Would not go gentle into that good night.
- 20:24Girl she would not age well you know what I'm saying?
- 20:28Hey hey, huge shout out to sponsor of dude IDK spider
- 20:34moving and storage. I recently used them to move
- 20:37into my new place and couldn't be happier with how efficient
- 20:41they were. They were so kind, they made it
- 20:43look so easy and it was just top notch experience.
- 20:46So definitely recommend that you check them out if you've got a
- 20:50move coming up. Residential, commercial, local,
- 20:53cross country, anything in between.
- 20:55You can get a free quote at spidermoving.com and you can
- 20:58give them a follow on social media at Spider Moving and
- 21:02Storage God. It's such a good movie.
- 21:06God, it really is. It's just like every, every
- 21:10scene when we meet another woman, another powerhouse, I
- 21:16say, oh, I'm so glad we're here 'cause we've got we've got, of
- 21:20course, Bette Midler and we've got Diane Keaton and Goldie
- 21:24Hawn, This powerful trio of hilarious women just being being
- 21:32their funniest. I thought that despite the fact
- 21:35that there was a lot of chaos in the making of this movie,
- 21:39because, as we've said, who wrote this?
- 21:41Who knows? The chemistry between these
- 21:45three women is undeniable, and it doesn't really matter what
- 21:49happens in the plot. I'm here for these women.
- 21:52The. The plot feels relatively
- 21:54cohesive. Like, yeah, it really hijinks.
- 21:57Yeah. They end up making a shelter for
- 22:00just women who are like, down bad.
- 22:02They don't really specify yeah, what kind of shelter it's.
- 22:06Just for women. And you know what?
- 22:09I actually. Love that created the wing I.
- 22:15Also love that there was like. Just for women to like.
- 22:18Be there, you know, just for women to be.
- 22:20Yeah. They said they're offering
- 22:22counseling services, family therapy.
- 22:27You know, there was like, you know, women who have been
- 22:29abused. I don't know.
- 22:30It was like anything that's happened to a woman, she can
- 22:33address what happened. OK, so it's like a women's
- 22:35Resource Center. It's kind of like that, Yeah.
- 22:38But they're like, our best friend killed herself, Our best
- 22:41friend who wouldn't have remembered my name if.
- 22:43Yeah. Our best friend who please don't
- 22:45like ask any fault questions, but she is my best friend, yeah.
- 22:50Sorry, was sorry was I forgot. It's like she's here in this
- 22:54moment with this, you know, building that we've created in
- 22:57her honor. But I loved that there was a
- 22:59crowd of people. There were news, news sources,
- 23:03yes, here at the opening of a women's mental health facility.
- 23:07And there was a like, there's a crowd gathered and I thought,
- 23:12that's beautiful. That's one of my favorite things
- 23:15of like movies and TV shows, when the press is there for
- 23:20something that the press would really not give a fuck about.
- 23:23You know. Slow Newsday.
- 23:26Yeah, I guess we hadn't bombed Iran yet.
- 23:28I guess not. It was the 90s.
- 23:30Not that much was happening. What can I?
- 23:33Kosovo hadn't been invaded yet, so.
- 23:37So they said, I guess we'll go to the yeah, The Post OJ Pre
- 23:40Kosovo, not a lot. First wives club.
- 23:44First wives club. That was the news, man.
- 23:48Wait, can I? I need to bring it back to a
- 23:50bummer, I'm afraid. Yes.
- 23:52OK, so, so the producer of this movie is Scott Rudin.
- 23:55I think that's how his name is pronounced.
- 23:57He there's kind of this Gray cloud over everything that he's
- 24:01been involved in because he has many allegations of abuse.
- 24:05Gross. Classic terror.
- 24:06Guy in Hollywood. Sorry, slow.
- 24:09Down. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
- 24:09wait, wait. You're not gonna believe.
- 24:11You're not making any fucking. Is that why you're shaking so
- 24:14much? Because we brought Scott Rude.
- 24:15She said. I don't like when when allegedly
- 24:20feminist films are at odds. Oh God, that's I mean what a
- 24:23classic move. OK, So what did this bitch do?
- 24:25Also, don't worry about mispronouncing his name if we
- 24:28think he's gross. Honestly.
- 24:30Yeah. Scott who?
- 24:31Yeah, Scott Rude is what it sounds like to me.
- 24:34That is so true, Scott. Rude.
- 24:38OK, So what did he do? He was I mean there was nothing
- 24:41specifically about this like nothing specifically tied to
- 24:45this movie, but overarching just harassment, bullying, gross, you
- 24:51know all of that. So there is that.
- 24:54Another thing that doesn't age great about this film is Heather
- 24:58Locklear. So she plays the ex-husband of
- 25:01Sorry, the new wife of Cynthia's ex-husband.
- 25:05Yeah. And she, she said on Zach
- 25:09Braff's podcast. Don't know why she was on there,
- 25:13but she. Hollywood is really in decline
- 25:15anyway. Go on.
- 25:17I'd love to have her if you wanted to talk about it on this
- 25:19podcast, Heather All, I'd love to have you.
- 25:22So she asked for her name to be taken off the credits.
- 25:25They didn't because she was so uncomfortable by that scene
- 25:30where the the guy is like stroking her nipple.
- 25:34It was just that one nipple. And that's very interesting.
- 25:38Just based on, I mean, it just shows the context is everything
- 25:42because she went on to do Boogie Nights, right, which I think had
- 25:47a way more hardcore. Plot and I mean.
- 25:51Sexual things, but I was. She must have just felt
- 25:54uncomfortable. I think it was because she
- 25:56didn't know was going to happen, you know what I mean?
- 26:00It was because it was because it was like in I think she was
- 26:05caught off guard and it wasn't. She kind of was like at first
- 26:10she made it sound like it was the actor who like made this
- 26:14choice outside of the director, but then she was like, no, it
- 26:18actually was a part of the script.
- 26:19But I was just surprised that he actually like was like touching
- 26:23my nip. Oh yuck.
- 26:25So anyway, ick ick, ick ick. Something else when I rewatched
- 26:30it that really shocked is they talk about Bette Midler being
- 26:34fat. Oh my God.
- 26:35Like a lot, they say. And she has the most normal ass
- 26:38body. She is like, truly the most
- 26:41like, average, Yeah, like woman. Just the most normal ass body
- 26:46and they're like, she's so fucking fat.
- 26:48They're like, sorry, I'm trying to find a specific line that I
- 26:53wrote down. One of them was like, hey, hold
- 26:58on, hold on, please. OK.
- 27:06Where did I, where did I write down?
- 27:08There's something about like they call her a little piggy.
- 27:11I'm guessing they say something about like living in the in the
- 27:19grocery aisle or something. Well that doesn't even make
- 27:24sense because you can't eat the food there you fucking idiots.
- 27:27Right. Yeah.
- 27:27Hello. You can't just nom, nom, nom.
- 27:30Oh my. God, yeah.
- 27:31That was something that particularly stood out to me is
- 27:34like, what are we doing just in terms of the plot where, Yeah,
- 27:39they were acting like she was grotesque when she was just a
- 27:43woman with a child, like. Just kind of, yeah, just kind of
- 27:49like very average. It was crazy.
- 27:52But that's the thing too, is that like all three of them are,
- 27:58are like very successful in their own right.
- 28:01They're like, they're gorgeous. They've raised these great
- 28:07children. They're like they're doing
- 28:09pretty much all the things that they've been told to do, but
- 28:12unfortunately they are aging and they weren't supposed to do
- 28:16that. They weren't supposed to age I.
- 28:17Just don't know why they thought that was OK.
- 28:19Yeah. And so they had the audacity to
- 28:21age, and that's why their husbands leave them because
- 28:24they're like, oh, I didn't sign up for this.
- 28:26I didn't sign up for you being old.
- 28:29So that's kind of the whole thing is they're like, OK, well,
- 28:33actually, all men are trash. They all leave us for these,
- 28:39like, skinnier, prettier, younger women.
- 28:44And so it's time to get revenge. And you know, what I love about
- 28:47this type of revenge is that it wasn't the lives they ruined.
- 28:51It was the friendship they gained along the way.
- 28:54You know, yeah, I do forget that that was a huge part of the plot
- 28:57is the lives they ruined. I thought it was just
- 29:00friendship. Yeah, but in their defense, the
- 29:04men were all being yucky. Yeah, and honestly, they all end
- 29:08up okay. Like everyone's fight.
- 29:10Yeah, Morty and Bette Midler get back together.
- 29:13What? Yeah.
- 29:15No, they don't. Yes they do.
- 29:17No, they don't. Yes they do.
- 29:18They're dancing at the end. Well, they were dancing, but I
- 29:21thought that it was sort of like.
- 29:23They were at the voice over was like we can all see it was going
- 29:26well for them. You know what I did get up to
- 29:31get a snack at the very end when they're all dancing because I
- 29:34was like, the movie ended 5. Minutes left and you're like
- 29:37it's snack. Time.
- 29:38And I was like, I mean, I was like, Oh yeah, the movie's over.
- 29:40I'm going to go get a snack. That's OK.
- 29:42So that was a very important. So it turns out that was
- 29:45important. This happens to me all the time.
- 29:48I went to the bathroom during the part of westward where they
- 29:52were that Jeffrey Wright was a robot.
- 29:55My God. And so then you were lost the
- 29:58rest of the time. And then I just, like, didn't
- 30:00bother to ask her. I was watching it with what
- 30:01happened. Yeah.
- 30:03And then she kept going down. And I was like, they're almost
- 30:05acting like he's a robot. And my roommate was like, yeah.
- 30:09They told us. Yeah, my God.
- 30:13So, yeah, they, because remember when Sarah Jessica Parker, who
- 30:16by the way, babe, babe, yeah, an absolute.
- 30:19Babe and a little baby. Yeah, we're not mad at the
- 30:21younger women for being hot. Of course it's not their.
- 30:24Fault. It's not their nothing.
- 30:26It's never a woman's. Fault.
- 30:27Never. And honestly, they do.
- 30:29Even though they're like, these women are so dumb, like they
- 30:33kind of have a fondness for them.
- 30:35At the same time, they're kind of like, you know what, she's
- 30:38young. Yeah, like the the path of being
- 30:41young and stupid. Yes, yes.
- 30:43Well, because men are also offering them all these things.
- 30:46Right. She's like, yeah, I want the
- 30:47same frame that was similar to the one in Jackie O's.
- 30:53That's my God. Maggie Smith.
- 30:55Can we ask about? Dave Maggie Smith.
- 30:56Oh my God, playing the like the socialite.
- 31:00Yeah, it's there for some reason.
- 31:03Yeah, they're so funny. It's like, of course these three
- 31:06women know the, like, the socialite of New York, and
- 31:09they're like, OK, well, we got to get her in on our scheme.
- 31:12And she's like, of course I will bamboozle this young woman.
- 31:17She. Could have donated so much money
- 31:20to the crisis, set the center up, but instead she was like
- 31:23what if I use my social acumen? Yeah, and she did.
- 31:30OK, I'm now seeing where they're like the plot is an airtight.
- 31:34And you know what she did use? She used her resources for good
- 31:38because she used those resources to bamboozle a younger woman in
- 31:43order to bamboozle her friend's ex-husband.
- 31:46Yeah, yeah. Are you a big revenge person?
- 31:49You know what I've always wanted to be, but I find that I'm not.
- 31:53I think that's OK. I don't really.
- 31:54Want to be able to like ruin a life but usually kind of don't.
- 32:00Go back to that. What do you what do you mean?
- 32:03I'm going to have to sit away from you and lay down on this
- 32:06house if we're going to do this. But but I think that I'm I don't
- 32:12really stick to a project long enough to see it through to the
- 32:15end. So your executive.
- 32:16Dysfunction is what's preventing you from like, billing a bunch
- 32:19of people. Honestly, yeah, Jesus Christ, I
- 32:21couldn't put it in AI, couldn't color code it.
- 32:24I couldn't put it on a spreadsheet.
- 32:25I couldn't do it in the calendar.
- 32:27You know what I mean? It's just like, yeah, I think it
- 32:29would take a lot for me to figure out like to do to do the
- 32:33the math of like, oh, I could set up this auction.
- 32:40OK. First of all, you got to get
- 32:41catering, you got to get, you got to hire the auctioneer.
- 32:45You got to find a venue, you got to like there's so.
- 32:48Much talking about this auction where she bought the Jackie O
- 32:52Yeah, like door knob or whatever.
- 32:54Yeah, totally. Where they're auctioning off
- 32:56Marty's or not Marty, one of the ex husbands, they're auctioning
- 33:00off his stuff so that they can get the money.
- 33:02Auctioning off Victor Garbo, who was Goldie Hawn's ex-husband
- 33:09stuff and star Jessica Parker, was, well, a fun thing.
- 33:13Did you? Did you watch And Just Like
- 33:15That? I did not watch and just like
- 33:17that I actually watched. I did watch the the episode
- 33:21where Big died, or just rather the scene where Big died because
- 33:24Cameron Martinez, friend of the pod, said you have to see this
- 33:28the. Peloton smear campaign.
- 33:31That was big dying. Yeah.
- 33:33OK, so I've seen Olive and Just Like That.
- 33:35And that doesn't surprise me at all.
- 33:37I love Sex in the City and it was a very compulsory thing once
- 33:41it started, whereas like, this isn't good.
- 33:43But I am gonna continue to watch it, of course.
- 33:46And Victor Garbo gets set up with Sarah Jessica Parker like
- 33:51in the season finale. My God.
- 33:52I know. Wow.
- 33:55That real full circle moment, yeah, wow.
- 33:57And. I was like, wow, you guys were.
- 33:59It's powerful because they were like hitting on each other at
- 34:01the end of First Wives Club. Yeah.
- 34:04So they were just meeting each other in another lifetime.
- 34:08God, that's so beautiful. I thought it was cool.
- 34:11I love that. Wow.
- 34:12And to the writers event, just like that, you did one thing
- 34:14right. I mean, I thought Shay Diaz was
- 34:19lightning in a bottle. I thought you are you.
- 34:22Are you trying to get? Yeah.
- 34:24Excuse me, I thought they were. A perfect character.
- 34:28I have never seen anything so flawless on the screen and
- 34:32anyone who feels otherwise, I just want you to know that the
- 34:36views expressed on this podcast do not reflect the values of Did
- 34:40That Age. OK, I'm sorry, it's four women
- 34:44in their 50s, like all wealthiest fuck in New York, and
- 34:47for some reason one of their good friends is a non primary
- 34:52comedian. Yeah, that gets up.
- 34:56Their pilot picked up for a show called Che Pasta.
- 35:04It's the like I'd say you can't make this up, but it's.
- 35:07Fictional. Someone did and someone did and
- 35:10it. Was just one of the most awesome
- 35:12things like. Laughing all the way to the
- 35:13bank. Yeah, Sarah Jessica Parker is on
- 35:16a bunch of pills because she got her, like, hip replaced.
- 35:18Oh yeah. And while she's on pills in the
- 35:20kitchen, Che Diaz fingers Miranda.
- 35:24Yeah, first wife's. First life's up.
- 35:27Sorry, I'm so first life's up. But look, look, we wouldn't have
- 35:31blacked out. Yeah, just.
- 35:34And just like that, Kate McLaughlin blacked out Exactly.
- 35:41Just all things in New York, I guess.
- 35:43And honestly, that's being women in New York.
- 35:46Do you have a favorite of the three?
- 35:48I think that my favorite is Goldie Hawn's character.
- 35:53I love they. Give her the funniest things to
- 35:55do she. Does get to be the funniest?
- 35:58I think that she she is so self important and I love that about
- 36:03her. I love that the other woman
- 36:06troll on her all the time for being an out of touch actor and
- 36:11but she really I think that her her line delivery is so perfect.
- 36:19I mean, all of them are. But they're so good.
- 36:20When she says things like there are three ages for a woman baby,
- 36:24District Attorney and driving Miss Daisy and like that woman's
- 36:28my. Favorite.
- 36:28They get the best lines to her. Absolutely.
- 36:31They do. But of course, I love, I love
- 36:35when Diane Keaton does that thing where she's like.
- 36:38Where she finally like. Yeah.
- 36:41Yeah, Laney. I love Laney.
- 36:44I'm so upset. Oh.
- 36:45Sorry, Laney. I didn't even think about you.
- 36:47Laney. Yeah.
- 36:48Oh yeah. Shake it out.
- 36:49Yeah, he's. Doing the Diane key, she's.
- 36:51Doing the Diane. Key Yeah, I like when finally
- 36:53her Valve is released in the movie and she can just be like a
- 36:56bitch. Yes, yeah, thank God because
- 36:59that bummed me out when she was refusing to acknowledge that the
- 37:03divorce was happening. Right when she said to her
- 37:06friends, she said things are great and blah, blah, blah, blah
- 37:10blah blah, blah, blah and we're separated.
- 37:12Yeah, and we're separated. That sort of repression is
- 37:16probably what made her daughter gay.
- 37:18Honestly, yeah. I think.
- 37:19And it probably. Was and I can send you some
- 37:22articles of. Look, I've got some articles and
- 37:26I think it's also why her why her gay daughter hated her dad.
- 37:31Yeah, yeah. I love, I love a child who is
- 37:36like, I mean, they should have called this the parent trap
- 37:39because she trapped her parents into.
- 37:42Parent Trap alternate ending. Bamboozle's dad into into being
- 37:54bought out of his own business. I mean, that's just crazy.
- 37:57You know, what I also loved is, is Goldie Hawn's ex-husband.
- 38:03He's in his office, which of course she made him.
- 38:06She invented him, yes. And he's got, he's got a poster
- 38:11for a movie that he's, you know, produced or whatever.
- 38:13Oh, isn't it when she's like a cop and a hooker?
- 38:15Yeah, it says. Policewoman by day, hooker by
- 38:18night. Yes, I think.
- 38:19That's the 90s. That is one of the funniest fake
- 38:21movie posters I've ever seen. It's so awesome.
- 38:24It's. Perfect.
- 38:27They also have they have like their headquarters for the First
- 38:31Wives Club and not to me is like 1990s wealth in America.
- 38:37Is that like when you have something to do, you're like,
- 38:41truly Goldie Hawn's character is like, oh, I have an empty
- 38:45building. Yeah, everything they wanted to
- 38:48accomplish they could have done. Like got a table at a coffee
- 38:51shop? Absolutely.
- 38:52But they said no, yeah, we are setting up and they redecorated
- 38:56it. It was like in a snap of a
- 38:59finger. They were like, look.
- 39:00Well, it's also that phenomenon of women that were really
- 39:04successful, ambitious in the career in the workforce, and
- 39:09then they stop to have kids. Yeah, but they still have all
- 39:12this like momentum from. Before like they're like these.
- 39:15This is why women need a project.
- 39:17Yeah, and so this was them just treating catching up with
- 39:21friends like a full ass job. Like they said, we can't just go
- 39:26to lunch. Like we they were like, OK, we
- 39:28went to the funeral, we went to lunch.
- 39:30We already felt guilty. I.
- 39:31Think now we have to rent out office.
- 39:32Space. Now we have to get an office, we
- 39:34have to have an agenda. We need to get a whiteboard.
- 39:36OK, That whiteboard walked so that the chalkboard in Mean
- 39:41Girls could run. You know what I mean?
- 39:43They have like the only two films.
- 39:45To use this by. The way absolutely the only two
- 39:48movies about revenge that have ever happened.
- 39:52I finally found the line about about fat.
- 39:57Bette Midler is. So it's after she throws the
- 40:01Golden Globe. OK.
- 40:02And and she's like, well, I want a Golden Globe.
- 40:08Like I'm accomplished. What, did you ever win a pie
- 40:11eating contest? Damn bitch.
- 40:13Wow. And they all just kind of had to
- 40:15slap each other. Yeah, they had.
- 40:17To slap each other. That's another thing about this
- 40:20movie that like there isn't a ton of coherence and I don't
- 40:24care. They needed some obstacle for
- 40:26them to like really overcome in their hero's journey.
- 40:30And the the problem was that Bettman Lou was fat.
- 40:33And that she was fat. And they were like, why did we
- 40:36even rent out this office space if you were going to be so
- 40:39gross? And seriously like what are you,
- 40:41a size 4 you crazy bitch? The chair we got you from from
- 40:46PB Teen is not going to work. It's not going to work and we
- 40:50are going to need to roll you in on something much sturdier.
- 40:54But they like they just have to be at each others throats for
- 40:59really no reason. Yeah well it's like that.
- 41:01Maybe we're remembering why we stop being friends.
- 41:04Yeah absolutely. And then they start turning on
- 41:07each other times when you. Catch up with someone, you're
- 41:09like, the drifting apart is making more sense.
- 41:13Yeah, they're like, oh, it's not because your number was
- 41:15unlisted, it's because you're a stupid.
- 41:17Fat bitch because of how fucking fat you got and I your network
- 41:22is your net worth and. Period.
- 41:25And this is this network is too heavy, if you know what I'm
- 41:27saying, the burden do. You have a favorite line from
- 41:31the movie. My favorite line is probably.
- 41:36Let's see, when Bette Midler's talking about her husband Marty,
- 41:41and she says that he got an earring and she said, Morty,
- 41:46what are you, a pirate? My favorite line is a bet.
- 41:52You know, we said all that about Goldie Hawn, but Bette Midler
- 41:55had some zingers. She really did when she ran into
- 41:57them at the mall and she was like, what's the matter, Morty?
- 41:59You can't even buy her a whole dress.
- 42:06I did love that. And then she also says she says
- 42:10something about rollerblading. He says I'm holding him back
- 42:13because I won't go rollerblading.
- 42:17Actually, you know what? You know what?
- 42:18I have my most favorite line it is.
- 42:21It is from Diane Keaton where she says lesbians are great
- 42:25nowadays. That is such a liberal mom like
- 42:31you. In theory, I think this is okay,
- 42:35but in practice you're struggling.
- 42:38She's struggling, so she has to say lesbian that she meets.
- 42:41I think you're terrific. Yeah.
- 42:42It's so funny. Hey, you're a person.
- 42:45You are and you are a person, no matter what anyone says.
- 42:51And you love is love, even if you're gay.
- 42:54She is going to be AP flag a pain in the fucking ass, dude.
- 42:58And it's great. It's technically great.
- 43:00It is. And we love it and we love it.
- 43:02We love it. Yeah, it's still going to be
- 43:05annoying. Of course, and she was an only
- 43:08child, right? So that's all there.
- 43:11My one daughter's a lesbian. Laney just shook the most.
- 43:16Lesbian are you? Do you have anything you want to
- 43:19tell us, Laney? I've never known peace, even
- 43:24though I've never wanted for anything and I'm beautiful.
- 43:27Yeah, you girl. Same girl.
- 43:30OK, physical comedy. Let's talk about the physical
- 43:32comedy girl. They are always, they're always
- 43:37bringing the most when it comes to physical comedy.
- 43:41I mean, Goldie Hawn at the bar, just like yeah, the three of.
- 43:46Them all do it very differently too, which I.
- 43:48Guess and you can see that in the most like heightened scenes
- 43:53like when they're going falling, you know to their death on the
- 43:58window washing conform and the way that all three of them react
- 44:03to. It is so good, it's.
- 44:04So good, and when it comes together, it's magic.
- 44:08It's so funny. It's.
- 44:09Perfect. It's a really good I was
- 44:12watching this very high with my boyfriend love that a couple
- 44:17months ago this before we even approached to do the.
- 44:19Incredible. I and I think it was after.
- 44:22Diane, I was just going to say it was after Diane.
- 44:24Yeah, of course. And I looked at him and was
- 44:26like, they should have made that a ride at Disneyland.
- 44:31The fact that I, I dead ass wrote that.
- 44:35I wrote that down, Kate, You didn't.
- 44:37I did too. I said, why wasn't this a ride
- 44:41at Disneyland? Because it's so weird.
- 44:43Disneyland isn't trying to like, appeal to like.
- 44:48Divorce women, Yeah, that is. And you know.
- 44:51What if that's for another park? The saddest place on earth?
- 44:59But honestly, it's like. OK, well divorce mom is going to
- 45:03take the the 5th grader to Disneyland because you know that
- 45:07dad's not going to take them, you know?
- 45:09Or dad is taking the family with new girlfriend.
- 45:14Oh, God, and he realizes he has only children around him.
- 45:19Yeah, because she's still a child.
- 45:20Yeah, yeah. And so this ride is to make him
- 45:23think about what he's done, as he should.
- 45:25And every floor is like, it's like the Tower of Terror.
- 45:30Yeah, every floor he has to meet, like he has to look into
- 45:34the eyes of a woman whose life he's ruined.
- 45:36Yeah, yeah, yeah. And like watching her die alone
- 45:39and shit. Or watching her throw herself
- 45:41off of the building. Or getting a new hot boyfriend
- 45:44that's like young as fuck. Jon Stewart was supposed to be a
- 45:47young hot boyfriend in this. Movie that is so funny.
- 45:50I know, I know. For who?
- 45:52For Goldie Hawn. Okay, and not that I think he's
- 45:59very handsome, this is not Jon Stewart slander, but.
- 46:02Yeah, of course you don't. See him as like heartthrob.
- 46:05No, but as but he has also aged. He did that.
- 46:10He did age even though he wasn't supposed to.
- 46:11Yeah, I just only have known him at a certain age.
- 46:15Me too. So it's hard to imagine him
- 46:17like. As like the young hop.
- 46:19Would feel like if I heard that Dame Judi Dench was like a total
- 46:22slut in another movie. And I hope she was.
- 46:25I'm like, I haven't seen that woman's elbows.
- 46:27Like, it's hard to imagine she's a freak.
- 46:29I'd love that for her. Also, rest in power.
- 46:32Yeah. Who is dead that that was in
- 46:37this movie? Let's go down the list.
- 46:39Hey, Maggie Smith. Yeah, Maggie Smith and Diane
- 46:42Keaton are the two big ones. Yeah, we've still got pretty
- 46:48good statistically. Victor Garber still alive?
- 46:51Still with us in the most recent season of And Just Like That.
- 46:55That's exactly right. Yeah.
- 46:57Oh, Elizabeth Berkeley. OK, Something sweet that she
- 47:00said just a few years ago as they were, she was reflecting on
- 47:04this movie and she was like, honestly, they say don't meet
- 47:06your heroes. But I had the best time with
- 47:09these three women who I looked up to so much.
- 47:11They mentored me. They were so kind to me and
- 47:14like, just lifted me up, you know, women supporting women.
- 47:17Elizabeth Berkeley seems cool like.
- 47:19I think she, she has to be like, you have to have a good attitude
- 47:23to be Elizabeth Berkeley, you know?
- 47:25Like she Well, did you ever see that reboot of Saved by the
- 47:28Bell? No, I never watched.
- 47:30OK, it was actually really funny.
- 47:31Really it was like very self aware.
- 47:33Oh, that's great to hear. Yeah, it was.
- 47:36I thought it was a very funny like they winked at the old show
- 47:40a lot. That's fun.
- 47:41Yeah, and she was a guidance counselor in it and had a bunch
- 47:45of really, because there was apparently an episode of Saved
- 47:47by the Bell where she got addicted to, like, caffeine
- 47:49pills. Yeah, that's right.
- 47:51And she still will. Like people will offer her
- 47:53coffee and she'll go. I can't.
- 47:55That's so in the news show. Oh my God.
- 47:58And then she's got to have a good attitude.
- 48:00She went to some event for some screening of Showgirls.
- 48:03Uh huh. And she had a bunch of really
- 48:04nice stuff to say that like the gay community, like made
- 48:07showgirls happen. Wow.
- 48:10Like she's cool. I like her.
- 48:12OK, yeah, shout out. Come on, the pod.
- 48:13Yeah, I love that about Was this before or after Showgirls that
- 48:16she did First Wives Club? It was I think a year before,
- 48:20but let me let me check. God, what a big time for her.
- 48:23OK, so this film came out in 1996.
- 48:26Showgirls came out in 95. OK, so it was the year after.
- 48:30It was the year after. Oh, that's so interesting.
- 48:32OK. OK, Speaking of people who died,
- 48:37Eileen Heckert, she was the one that played the mom, the love
- 48:43her, love her. A real like original.
- 48:47She's a real broad. She's a real broad.
- 48:49Yeah, and she was a real broad. She's dead now, of course.
- 48:52Resting power, anyone? Else Rob Reiner, obviously.
- 48:55Fuck, I know. Pretty fucked up, I know, but
- 49:01we've still got we've got Bet, we've got Goldie, we've got
- 49:03everyone else. A lot of women are still with
- 49:06us. And a lot of women.
- 49:07All the men except Rob Reiner, who played Diane Keaton's
- 49:11husband, Christopher Lloyd. No, it was like a hand.
- 49:16No, no, it was that guy from 7th Heaven.
- 49:19That was like a total free What's.
- 49:21His name? What's his name?
- 49:22Hold on, he's like a hotter Christopher Lloyd.
- 49:25His name is Stephen Collins. Yeah.
- 49:28No, wait. Aaron Paratus.
- 49:30Which one? Whatever you say, I'll go.
- 49:32Stephen Collins. Stephen Collins.
- 49:34Yeah, because he got me too. Like super hard, right?
- 49:37Let me do some. Let me do some checking.
- 49:39Yes, the very first thing that comes up is actor Stephen
- 49:42Collins accused of sexual assault.
- 49:44Bummer. Gross, dude.
- 49:46For spanning from the 1970s to the 1990s.
- 49:49So that was like during this time, man, that is fucked up.
- 49:52That doesn't Hey, you didn't need well.
- 49:54It doesn't contribute to the weird weird vibes what women
- 49:58were describing. I know.
- 50:00I'm also wondering what if the original script was too man
- 50:04bashing? I wonder what?
- 50:06I want to see in that movie. And also like, shut up, Goldie
- 50:09Hawn, like I know. Stop trying to be.
- 50:11Stop trying to be a cool girl. Like.
- 50:14Stop trying to be like a pygmy. What is?
- 50:17What do you think they removed like?
- 50:20I'm sure that like the tiny Dick jokes.
- 50:23Are like. Honestly, probably.
- 50:25OK, maybe they like, you know how at the end of the movie it
- 50:29seems like, well, of course you watched it more carefully than I
- 50:32did because you clearly remember things that I didn't even
- 50:34remember, I think. We're both doing a good job of
- 50:36remembering different things and like bringing it.
- 50:38Together. So much for saying that and I
- 50:40couldn't agree more. And Laney is I'm this is the
- 50:45hardest thing she's ever it's. It's really hard for her.
- 50:47She hates man bashing. So yeah, she.
- 50:50She really wanted to do Goodfellas.
- 50:52Today, Yeah, she did, she said. She said I'm a pygmy girl.
- 50:56I didn't want to do this. What ROM com with no ROM?
- 51:00Yeah, she just wanted to do Boondock Saints today.
- 51:03She. She wanted to do all the
- 51:07freshmen in college boy movie poster movies.
- 51:10She wanted to do that poster that all the boys had that was
- 51:15like the black and white photo of 2 girls in their underwear
- 51:17kissing. Absolutely.
- 51:19She doesn't even like movies. She just wanted to talk about
- 51:21that. She wants Frank Sinatra's mug
- 51:24shot. She want that's actually the
- 51:26movie that she wanted to discuss.
- 51:27She. Wanted a Jimi Hendrix tapestry.
- 51:34She she wanted a fucking George Carlin album.
- 51:40She wanted a big dog T-shirt. Dude, I love big dogs.
- 51:45If you can't get with the big dog, stand off the porch dude
- 51:48or. Stay on the porch.
- 51:49Stay off. Oh yeah, if you can't run with
- 51:51the big they. They run off the porch and the
- 51:53porch is where the porches are. Absolutely.
- 51:56Yeah, I should get Laney a big dog shirt.
- 51:58Oh my God, It's so funny because she's a little dog.
- 52:02Yeah, yeah, I love that for her. I'm a big dog though.
- 52:05What's what are we talking? About what we're talking about,
- 52:07I got that. I got that big dog, she.
- 52:09Wanted. Yeah.
- 52:10What else did she want? She Laney.
- 52:14What were some other like really shitty freshman dorm posters?
- 52:18Oh, like super bad. That was a.
- 52:21Popular one, Yeah. Go Zags.
- 52:24Go Zags. You guys are having a really
- 52:27good season. My God, I love to hear that.
- 52:29Yeah. Are you?
- 52:31Haven't been following. Thanks for letting me know and
- 52:34thank you so much for letting me know because I really didn't
- 52:36know that. And now you have something to
- 52:38talk about. Yeah, I have something to talk
- 52:39about. My college friends when someone
- 52:41dies and I go to a. Funeral When your friend kills
- 52:45yourself. Yourself.
- 52:46Yeah. Then you can just DAP on him and
- 52:50say go zag. I'll have something to I'll say,
- 52:52well, at least we're having a pretty good season, yeah.
- 52:55Do you guys want to watch Billy Madison?
- 52:58Because that was a big thing in my dorms.
- 52:59Yeah, absolutely. That was a big one.
- 53:02A huge tip off that maybe I didn't only like men.
- 53:06In like 5th and 6th grade a bunch of my friends were getting
- 53:10like hot guy posters on their wall.
- 53:13Yeah. Like you're In Sync your
- 53:15Backstreet Boys classics, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, of
- 53:18course. You're 98° for the indie girls,
- 53:21of course. But I just thought we were
- 53:23getting like guy posters. And so I got this like black and
- 53:26white poster of Bob Dylan cuz like my family listened to him a
- 53:30lot. I'm kind of different.
- 53:32No, but I just like, I wasn't even trying to be different.
- 53:34I was like, well, he's a guy and that's what we're doing.
- 53:36That's what we do. Yeah, It's a guy.
- 53:38He's famous. I was like, Oh my God, do.
- 53:40You guys want to practice making out again or what for when we
- 53:43get boyfriends? I'm ready.
- 53:48Let's put some Bob Dylan on. Let's put some Bob Dylan on and
- 53:51see what happens. Yeah, it was.
- 53:53It was a sign that maybe I, like I felt constrained by just being
- 53:57attracted to boys and. And Bob Dylan is truly like the
- 54:04he is like the biggest lesbian, honestly.
- 54:07And it was like 2000s Bob Dylan. Not like young Timothy Shalamate
- 54:11playing him. Bob Dylan.
- 54:13It was like a fucking prune with a bowler hat on a black and
- 54:18white poster. It was very classy.
- 54:20Oh my God. And yeah, I was just like,
- 54:22ladies, I. Said ladies, am I right?
- 54:26And. Laney loved it.
- 54:28Laney. Loved Laney's, Laney's, am I
- 54:30right? Women.
- 54:34So Speaking of women, these these gals wanted to do a segue.
- 54:42So, Speaking of women, let's talk about First Watch.
- 54:48Good. Idea OK, but there used to be
- 54:52some speculation about a sequel, but Bette Midler said that there
- 54:58were political reasons that they didn't want to do it again, she
- 55:01said. Well, Goldie Hawn was going to
- 55:04date George Bush and that's that.
- 55:07Seemed. Hard.
- 55:08That was going to be hard. That was the whole.
- 55:10Plot line. Yeah.
- 55:11And it was like she's the they called it First wives Club.
- 55:15More like First Ladies club, Am I right?
- 55:18First Wives Club 2 Fast 2 Furious First Wives club goes
- 55:24back to school. Yeah, Second wives Club.
- 55:28Yeah, that. Yeah, it's it's just all the
- 55:31hot. Young girls, yeah.
- 55:32It's the story of the like, the next generation and them.
- 55:36First wives club the next. Generation wait, So what was the
- 55:40plot of the sequel? Do they OK so there was no plot
- 55:42of the sequel. It was just like they said that
- 55:45they rented they thought that they thought that it was going
- 55:48they find another office to rent.
- 55:49They just the reason that it wasn't made was because people
- 55:53were like oh actually that movie its success was just a fluke.
- 55:57It wasn't actually because of. That is such.
- 56:01Women being talented. A response of the time.
- 56:05Yes, and Bette, Midler said, she said.
- 56:08I really felt like that was a pretty serious diss because when
- 56:11women have hits, it's a fluke. But when men have hits, isn't it
- 56:14great? At least that's what they told
- 56:15us on 1st Wives and. Also, that is a very spicy Bette
- 56:20Midler quote. I know and I love her.
- 56:22She's so great, you know where she got her start singing was in
- 56:26bath houses. Like gay Bath?
- 56:28Houses Oh, of course that would be an ideal place to sing I
- 56:32mean, I mean the acoustics yeah, honest and.
- 56:34Like your throat never gets sore cause of the steam.
- 56:38I thought you'd say there's Dicks in your mouth.
- 56:43Yeah, a tight. Vacuum of air vacuum.
- 56:45But there are videos of her, like really grainy old videos
- 56:49and she would like put a towel on her head and wear a little
- 56:52towel. Dress and sing.
- 56:53Oh my God. Yeah.
- 56:55And that's why the gays ride incredibly hard for Batman.
- 56:58I mean, one, she's fab, but like, of course she's an icon,
- 57:01but she started out as a gay icon from day one.
- 57:04Wow, she was a what did what did Goldie Hawn's character call
- 57:08him? Civilians.
- 57:09Yeah, she was a civilian among the gay bath houses.
- 57:14That's iconic, isn't that? Sick.
- 57:16Yeah, so sick. I there was like a long form
- 57:19interview I saw with her, yeah, a few years ago.
- 57:22And the footage of it's just hilarious.
- 57:24I love that. Yeah, my gosh, makes me want to
- 57:26sing. That's incredible.
- 57:30I I feel like we do just have to talk about the quick cameo from
- 57:35J Smith. Cameron as the as the lawyer,
- 57:39lol. She's like it's.
- 57:40Very funny. It was almost as though you
- 57:43could see, totally forgot about this.
- 57:46You could see the man sitting in his seat about to say, well, I'm
- 57:52not sexist. My lawyer is a woman.
- 57:55You know what I'm saying? Like that's what was going
- 57:56through his head was like, no, no, no.
- 57:58I love women. I love women.
- 58:01Yeah, I, one of my best friends is a woman and she's like, we're
- 58:05not friends. I work for you.
- 58:08I'm your employee. So yeah, I loved seeing Jay
- 58:12Cameron Smith. It's just like those little
- 58:14things where you're like, Oh my God, she's here again.
- 58:16Gloria Steinem is randomly at that party.
- 58:18That is so funny. That is what a get.
- 58:23What a get and then and then of course one of the.
- 58:27Women in real life had to be friends with Gloria Synham, of
- 58:31course. Yeah, I do thought that Ivanka
- 58:33had a pretty iconic line. Yeah, she said.
- 58:36Don't get mad, get even. Get everything.
- 58:39Get. Everything.
- 58:40Don't get mad, get everything. Okay, I did love that.
- 58:44Yeah. Yeah.
- 58:46And that really, I think, became like the most popular line from
- 58:50the movie, so. What's the matter, Moore?
- 58:53You can't even buy her a whole dress.
- 58:56Should have been the tagline for the movie.
- 58:59Yeah, they're like, what do you? Who's Morty?
- 59:01They're like, who's Morty? That's a terrible.
- 59:03Tagline Oh yeah don't get mad get everything is a pretty
- 59:07iconic. Yeah, that's nice.
- 59:09Nice clean, short. Yeah.
- 59:12Oh, I love it. You know what is perfect about
- 59:17First Wives Club? And let me just say this, People
- 59:21get really mad when you talk about movie lengths.
- 59:25People, people. It's divisive.
- 59:27It's very divisive. Yeah, First Wives Club is a
- 59:30perfect movie, and it's 90 minutes.
- 59:32Yeah, I well, comedies should. Be Yeah.
- 59:37What do you think is the perfect movie length?
- 59:39It depends on the genre. OK, let's say.
- 59:43Let's say Thriller Hour 45. OK, what about horror?
- 59:50I consider those the same. OK.
- 59:53John, I'm not a huge horror like aficionado.
- 59:56So you would say 0 minutes? I haven't seen as many as I've
- 1:00:01seen other genres so. What about like?
- 1:00:03Drama drama. Two hours, tops.
- 1:00:06OK, perfect and then a slapstick comedy hour and a half.
- 1:00:10OK perfect. And then like a ROM com.
- 1:00:12Hour and a half hour, 40 minutes.
- 1:00:14OK, perfect. Yeah.
- 1:00:15I think it's better dramas have scenes of like, a hungover guy
- 1:00:23going into a basement and just like seeing a picture of his
- 1:00:28dead wife. Yeah, and you can't rush through
- 1:00:31that. No, you can't.
- 1:00:32Go pick it up, pick it up, put it back down.
- 1:00:36Yeah, yeah, he's got to look at it for a couple.
- 1:00:37Seconds and just like. Yeah.
- 1:00:40And, like, look at it. And then he can't look at it.
- 1:00:42Like, hey, Susan, I'm ready. Yeah.
- 1:00:47And then put it down and go like.
- 1:00:49Yeah, that can't be rushed. He can't go, Susan, I'm ready.
- 1:00:53You can't do that or I can't do that.
- 1:00:54Makes sense. What fucking?
- 1:00:55I'm not describing any movie. I've ever heard of, but
- 1:00:58honestly, we all know. We've all been.
- 1:01:01We've all seen. Yeah, I think that drama needs a
- 1:01:04little more time to breathe. But yeah, anything past two
- 1:01:08hours, you're just playing with yourself, dude.
- 1:01:10Like I it's new. Film lengths are tough for me.
- 1:01:15Me too, dude. Have you seen Marty Supreme?
- 1:01:18I. Have seen Marty's. 2 1/2 hours
- 1:01:20was a long time. I did have to get up in the
- 1:01:22middle and go potty. Yeah.
- 1:01:24Because and we would see it. I saw it at the AMC in the in
- 1:01:28the. Recliners.
- 1:01:29Are you part of their little cult?
- 1:01:32Are you an AMC member? Oh, am I part of a little cult?
- 1:01:34No one invited me. Just kidding, I am.
- 1:01:37I am an AMC. Stuff.
- 1:01:38I'm pointing at Jacob through the curtain.
- 1:01:40Yeah, yeah, yeah, yes. I am an AMC Stubs member.
- 1:01:44I do love to go to the movies. I saw it at the Mayan with about
- 1:01:48with my boyfriend and a bunch of girls that had my exact same
- 1:01:52outfit. Yeah, and about 10 guys that
- 1:01:55were there by themselves. Typical Mayan crowd.
- 1:01:59I know the typical. But those like a lot of couples
- 1:02:02that look just like the vibe my boyfriend and I bring to being
- 1:02:07really white and yeah, totally a bunch of film Bros by
- 1:02:10themselves. I saw friendship there and that
- 1:02:12was fucking hilarious that. Is.
- 1:02:15A crazy So many people by themselves, so many guys by
- 1:02:19themselves. Oh my God, that's really kind of
- 1:02:21sweet. I like, I like, normalize going
- 1:02:24to movies by yourself. I love going to the movies by
- 1:02:26myself. Yeah, I was going to go to Marty
- 1:02:27Supreme by myself. But I texted a group of friends,
- 1:02:30a fellow AMC Steps members, and I said, hey, you got a Marty
- 1:02:34Supreme cult. You acted.
- 1:02:36I know. She acted like she know what I
- 1:02:38was talking about and then was like Google gobble one of us.
- 1:02:42I know I I made it sound like I was being left out of something
- 1:02:46intentionally and I'm absolutely in it.
- 1:02:49So I texted some of my friends who are also AMC Staffs and I
- 1:02:54was like, hey, I wanna go to Marty Supreme.
- 1:02:55And they were like, Yep, I already got tickets.
- 1:02:57OK. So then I went with some friends
- 1:02:59and I. Well, you know, with ping pong
- 1:03:01movies, there's a lot of like, back and forth.
- 1:03:07Frankly, I would have liked more ping pong in Marty Supreme.
- 1:03:12Or ping pong I'm. Going to make some of you really
- 1:03:14mad when I say done. Cocaine and are like so mad.
- 1:03:18Honestly I would be fine with cocaine and ping pong.
- 1:03:21Like I really love for it to be even faster.
- 1:03:26With more small business. Ideas.
- 1:03:28Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:03:29I love that. He was always Wheeling and
- 1:03:30dealing and we needed more people doing cocaine while
- 1:03:33playing ping pong. It seems like they really got
- 1:03:35into their groove thinking when they were.
- 1:03:37Yeah, they should have honored a movie that was so obviously
- 1:03:41written by people on cocaine. Yeah, they really should have
- 1:03:45and and. Given a little homage to it and
- 1:03:48then. Totally.
- 1:03:49But it's also like my culture is not your costume and.
- 1:03:53And at that time it probably wouldn't be cool like glamour
- 1:03:56lines like in the 70s. And it'd be like from those
- 1:03:59Victorian like sniffers, like babe, you're hysteria is out of
- 1:04:03control. Do a little.
- 1:04:05Cocaine. Yeah.
- 1:04:06And it's like, unrecognizable for a modern audience.
- 1:04:10Yeah. Would have loved more Ping Pong
- 1:04:13and Marty Supreme. That's kind of my main
- 1:04:15criticism. That's fascinating.
- 1:04:16I thought it was a little too long, like, oh.
- 1:04:18Oh, I thought that the movie was too long.
- 1:04:20Yeah, I wish that they cut down some stuff and added in more
- 1:04:25ping pong. That, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:04:27Yeah, I just, I thought it was so fun to watch.
- 1:04:30It was very fun. I Yeah.
- 1:04:32What? OK, So what are your ideal movie
- 1:04:33times? Really quick.
- 1:04:34OK, so I think for for most movies, 2 hours is the Max.
- 1:04:40I think that comedy is typically our best when they're about 90
- 1:04:45to 100 minutes. I think that a sort of like a
- 1:04:51genre bending movie, like something that's like a little
- 1:04:55drama a little, a little romance, a little.
- 1:04:57Comedy, like Everything Everywhere.
- 1:04:59Yeah, everything, everywhere. I think 2 hours would have been
- 1:05:02great. I think an hour 45 is good for
- 1:05:07like a thriller. I think horror can be 85.
- 1:05:12Horror doesn't even need to be 90 minutes.
- 1:05:14Like I want it. I want it to be brought up and
- 1:05:17down. I.
- 1:05:18I like a tighter plot with horror movies.
- 1:05:20Yeah, like, I don't like build the tension for the first half
- 1:05:24and then just go crazy the second-half.
- 1:05:26That's a great, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:28That's a great. Form and I recently I recently
- 1:05:31posted something on social media about movie links.
- 1:05:35It was like no more 4 hour movie out.
- 1:05:38I just. Don't.
- 1:05:39Yeah, I it's a really confusing trend in movies because
- 1:05:46everybody's attention span, including myself, Yeah, has
- 1:05:49gotten smaller. But it it's just, it feels so
- 1:05:54bloated. Like, I don't get why the
- 1:05:56editing is not. Do they think that it's like,
- 1:06:02well, we've already worked really hard to get them in the
- 1:06:04seats at a theater. Let's like, maybe they'll die.
- 1:06:07Hold them. Hostage.
- 1:06:08Yeah, it's. Like such a weird.
- 1:06:10I don't understand the instinct of making movies a lot longer.
- 1:06:13Like I thought I think Judd Apatow is very funny.
- 1:06:16I don't get why those movies were so fucking long.
- 1:06:18And honestly, I think that it's because men who direct movies
- 1:06:25are not willing to say no. We can cut that.
- 1:06:29There's an ego to it. There's an ego to it that
- 1:06:31they're like, well, I thought of that.
- 1:06:33And so if I thought of it, it should be in a movie, I mean.
- 1:06:37Probably that sounds accurate. Yeah.
- 1:06:40And also I think that it's one of those weird psychological
- 1:06:43tricks where, like, you know, how sometimes brands will, like,
- 1:06:47price things higher to make them seem more luxurious or prestige.
- 1:06:51I think that some film makers probably feel the pressure to
- 1:06:55make movies longer so that they're considered prestige.
- 1:06:58That I think that's very a very legitimate psychological
- 1:07:03torment. Happened and they're doing it to
- 1:07:05us and I think. That also they're like victims
- 1:07:08here and. And we are the victims.
- 1:07:09Yeah, like a Oh, they think that to be a good important movie, it
- 1:07:12has to be like the longest fucking thing, like a dance
- 1:07:16marathon in World War Two or something.
- 1:07:18They're like, we're not gonna be able to bring the boys home
- 1:07:20unless we dance, shoot horses. Don't they?
- 1:07:23That was the depression, not World War 2.
- 1:07:25But. Yeah, but still.
- 1:07:27Oh Laney, you just crop dusted us, dude.
- 1:07:30Oh, Laney. But you know what?
- 1:07:32She's aging and I can already tell.
- 1:07:35Yeah. First dogs club.
- 1:07:37First dogs club. First dogs club.
- 1:07:40What I. What do they mean?
- 1:07:42It would have been too political.
- 1:07:44Maybe the behind the scenes? I think that she means.
- 1:07:47Like, oh, it's too much, I'll get abortions.
- 1:07:55First babies. Club they become eco terrorists
- 1:07:59that like that like blow up a Jeep.
- 1:08:01Dealer they become antifa. I think that she probably means
- 1:08:07like, oh, they it was too much of A like political game behind
- 1:08:11the thing. I think she means like more like
- 1:08:13office politics that makes. More sense, but I do like
- 1:08:16imagining them becoming like extremists.
- 1:08:19They Greenpeace like, yeah, tracks them down because they
- 1:08:23like, kill sharks and like sell the fins.
- 1:08:28I could see, I could see one of them like dying on a hill of
- 1:08:33being like, don't take my furs, you know?
- 1:08:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. They start getting, they start
- 1:08:37getting in a, they get a candle with PETA, you know, and, and
- 1:08:45it's. Tough, It's tough out there.
- 1:08:46Named Judi Dench asked them to start smuggling drugs from
- 1:08:50Columbia and they all have to like eat the balloons and like.
- 1:08:55Yeah. Did you ever see Maria Full of
- 1:08:57Grace? No, it's not a funny movie.
- 1:09:00I don't know why I was like, T he he.
- 1:09:02It's a foreign film from Columbia of a girl that becomes
- 1:09:06like a drug smuggler. Oh my God.
- 1:09:08And I think that First Wives Club is sort of the, you know,
- 1:09:13the prequel. She flies into New York.
- 1:09:15So that actually so. You know.
- 1:09:18New York the the the other the 4th character.
- 1:09:22It became too political because they had an orgy with Newt
- 1:09:25Gingrich. And they actually, they exposed
- 1:09:36Bill Clinton. That'd be fucking crazy.
- 1:09:39Yeah, well, they don't seem to support young women, so that
- 1:09:42actually doesn't track. Yeah, the First Wives Club have
- 1:09:45been totally on Hillary's side. Of course, in an obnoxious.
- 1:09:48Way they would have. OK, that's what it is, is that
- 1:09:51First wives Club recruits Hillary Clinton.
- 1:09:55They create a smear campaign against Bill Clinton.
- 1:09:58And Monica Lewinsky's life goes to shit.
- 1:10:01Yeah. Talk about something that didn't
- 1:10:03age well. Honey.
- 1:10:04Honey. All right.
- 1:10:06Well. So overall, what do you think?
- 1:10:07Did it age well? Overall, yeah, I still think
- 1:10:09it's a perfect movie. I think it's five stars.
- 1:10:11Yeah. I wish Bette Midler wasn't so
- 1:10:13fucking fat. Yeah, Oh my God, I know it's
- 1:10:15hard to watch. I mean, shook up the whole
- 1:10:17screen for God's sake. Oh my God, that crazy scene
- 1:10:20where Sarah Jessica Parker's like find something in.
- 1:10:23Your size? Yeah.
- 1:10:25And she's like your size. It's like, no damn.
- 1:10:28Your size. Yeah, just like it's.
- 1:10:30I'm just. Looking at a person yeah, truly
- 1:10:32and yeah, this woman who she's not even plus size she's.
- 1:10:37Just like a six to an 8. Yeah.
- 1:10:39Just kind of kind of aspirational for me to be
- 1:10:41honest. So it was a little.
- 1:10:42Fucked up, a little fucked up. Yeah, yeah, it is always so
- 1:10:47funny watching movies from the the past or even I mean Movies
- 1:10:51Now too. It's not like fat phobia has
- 1:10:53gone away. Well, whenever they're like, Oh
- 1:10:55yeah, the fat girl. And you're like, oh, you mean
- 1:10:58oh. Oh, you're like that girl whose
- 1:11:01weight would be like a decrease if I was that weight?
- 1:11:04Fuck. Oh, didn't know it was like
- 1:11:09that. Or Oh my God, that like teen
- 1:11:11movie The designated ugly fat friend.
- 1:11:15Oh. My God, girl.
- 1:11:18Like. What?
- 1:11:19Yeah, insane, insane. And you first wives club.
- 1:11:23I'm so sorry. Anyway, first wives club, what
- 1:11:27else is there to say? But it is kind of the classic,
- 1:11:30like, I hate, I hate to say this because I know that like, I am,
- 1:11:36I am like a white feminist, OK, I am a white person.
- 1:11:41You too, huh? Yeah, even me.
- 1:11:46Hey, whiteness happens to. Look, it happens to some of the
- 1:11:49best of us. God gives strongest, strongest
- 1:11:54soldiers, Yeah, to his most translucent.
- 1:11:56Soldiers with the highest rates of sun cancer.
- 1:12:00Sunburn Soldiers. I know that it it would be a
- 1:12:05mistake for me to say like this movie is a feminist masterpiece
- 1:12:08because there's not one person of color.
- 1:12:10There's not one like there's not one person who's poor other than
- 1:12:15the the maid who, who's Tucker Channing gives her pearls too
- 1:12:22before she kills herself. And it's, you know, it's.
- 1:12:26I think it's more girl power than feminism.
- 1:12:31It is. It's you don't own me.
- 1:12:33Yeah, Yeah. I think it's more like, yes, it
- 1:12:37is women's empowerment, but I would not say like, wow, this is
- 1:12:40an intersectional. Feminism after second wave
- 1:12:43feminism it is. That's why Gloria Steinem was
- 1:12:46there. Period.
- 1:12:47It is completely second wave feminism.
- 1:12:50It's. Like which is cool because they
- 1:12:52made the movie 30 years after second wave feminism debuted.
- 1:12:57And here's the thing too that I think makes this movie age well.
- 1:13:00In this movie, maybe a dark take, but like, nothing's
- 1:13:03changed. I know nothing's changed.
- 1:13:06Men are still leaving their wives once they expire at age
- 1:13:1040. It's not like a phenomenon that
- 1:13:12has changed. That is absolutely true.
- 1:13:13Truly everything. Like, you know, yes, there's
- 1:13:16the, there's the, we just happened to have an office
- 1:13:19building we can rent in New York and oh, like we don't have cell
- 1:13:22phones and stuff, but like. You know all those bitches voted
- 1:13:24for Cuomo. Oh my God.
- 1:13:26Like they all, they were really fundraiser.
- 1:13:28They were really against Mondami.
- 1:13:30Yeah, they. We're like, we'll look, yeah,
- 1:13:34we're all landlords here and we're all landlords here.
- 1:13:38They would have. I feel like it would have been a
- 1:13:40fight that Diane Keaton's daughter had.
- 1:13:43With her, yeah, yeah, it didn't ruin their relationship, but
- 1:13:48there was tension. But it was annoying, yeah, and a
- 1:13:51strain. It was it was a strain, Yeah.
- 1:13:53But then ultimately the daughter wins because Montdami wins.
- 1:13:57So. And the those women have to eat
- 1:13:59their words. But here's The thing is that
- 1:14:01like this first wives club could have been made today and not
- 1:14:06much would have. Changed the references would be
- 1:14:09different. Yeah, the references would be
- 1:14:10different, but the entire concept?
- 1:14:12Of like, the office space would have been a little sadder.
- 1:14:17They would have rented A5 by 5 Co working space.
- 1:14:21They would have we worked. Yeah, they would have.
- 1:14:23We worked. They would have gone.
- 1:14:25They would have rented someplace by the hour with kombucha on
- 1:14:27tap. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:14:29And that's going to be $100 to work here today for that cup of.
- 1:14:33Yeah, but I think it still would be a very plausible movie of
- 1:14:36like 3 smoking hot women that are middle-aged got dumped.
- 1:14:41Yeah, absolutely. Oh, hi, Laney.
- 1:14:46All right, well. Laney, do you have anything else
- 1:14:48you'd like to say? Oh, oh, what's back here?
- 1:14:51She voted for Curtis Lewa. Oh yeah.
- 1:14:55She's she's a Republican talk. About that, yeah, Talk about
- 1:14:58that. That's why she went straight for
- 1:15:01the plane, the the military plane.
- 1:15:04Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:15:06Yeah. OK.
- 1:15:06But. All right, all right, all right.
- 1:15:08Well, we Speaking of planes, we got to land this plane.
- 1:15:11Kate, what else is there to say about First Wives Club?
- 1:15:14Anything else? Do you think it aged well?
- 1:15:16I think it aged well, yeah, other than the stuff we went
- 1:15:19over. But compared to other shit from
- 1:15:21the 90s aged the best. Yeah.
- 1:15:24And it's got the best rewatch ability, very rewatchable.
- 1:15:29Anytime that someone has told me that they haven't seen it, I'm
- 1:15:31like, well, we got to watch it. It's.
- 1:15:32Fun. Yeah, I don't think it's very
- 1:15:35common for three women of a certain age to be on screen at
- 1:15:40the same time. And to be given full stories,
- 1:15:43full characters, they're not the butt of the joke, and they get a
- 1:15:48chance to earn their. Yeah, that's so true.
- 1:15:53But other, yeah, they like got to be the star.
- 1:15:55I thought it was really cool. Yeah, and I think it did great
- 1:15:58things for their careers too. In this movie that a bunch of
- 1:16:01people thought was going to flop being being Evergreen.
- 1:16:06We love it is we love it. So if you haven't watched First
- 1:16:09Wives Club, what are you waiting for?
- 1:16:11Support women and also OK, one more thing is that they're the
- 1:16:17poster for the movie is like the three of them smoking cigars.
- 1:16:21I've been looking at this image the whole time, yeah.
- 1:16:23And it's fucking iconic. Yeah.
- 1:16:25Gorgeous. I love it.
- 1:16:26They're like, why would I need a boys club when I have first
- 1:16:29wives club? Oh.
- 1:16:30And you know what? Is that A tag?
- 1:16:32No, but I need OK, that's and that's on copywriting.
- 1:16:37Hire me. I'm Yeah, We're both looking for
- 1:16:40work. We're both looking for work.
- 1:16:42And how funny are we? Yeah, did you see how fun that
- 1:16:45was and how clever we spoke? Give me a be a personality hire.
- 1:16:49So the point is that we're. Looking for jobs?
- 1:16:52So the point is, I sharks, I'm here to say.
- 1:16:58They've all the sharks have left them in.
- 1:16:59Conclusion, They said enough about women.
- 1:17:04Well, Kate, thank you so much for coming apart.
- 1:17:06Thank you for having me. Do you want to tell people where
- 1:17:08to find you on the Internet? Etcetera.
- 1:17:10You can find me at Kate Gluck Gluck.
- 1:17:13I did not know what it meant but that is my Instagram handle and
- 1:17:17just find out more about me. What a fun little teaser, yeah?
- 1:17:24When does this come out? This will come out in a couple
- 1:17:26of weeks. OK.
- 1:17:27Yeah. Great.
- 1:17:28Well, then I don't really know what's upcoming then, so, OK.
- 1:17:31Any any exciting shows you're doing toward the end of January?
- 1:17:38I'm yeah, I'm opening for my friend Sammy Anzer.
- 1:17:42He's coming back from New York. And I was just going to say, he
- 1:17:45barely gave us time to miss him. Actually, Missy, if you won't go
- 1:17:48away, Yeah, but I'm opening for him at the Comedy Fort.
- 1:17:51Oh, I heard that he moved to New York because you got a
- 1:17:53boyfriend. Yeah, Yeah, OK.
- 1:17:56I'm breaking hearts left and right over here, people.
- 1:17:59Another person who moved to New York to All right, go zags.
- 1:18:03All right, go Zags.
