Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB: What Impact Will Jordan Davis' Mega Extension Have On Eagles Free Agency?
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:14Speaker 2: What's going on? Everybody?
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan And today today is
- 0:20Speaker 1: usually an exciting day for Eagles fans, for NFL fans
- 0:25Speaker 1: most of the time. Today the legal negotiating period will.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Begin for the NFL.
- 0:31Speaker 1: The new league year officially starts Wednesday, right, but today
- 0:35Speaker 1: is the day that the negotiations can start. And the
- 0:38Speaker 1: reason why I kind of sound reluctant at him is
- 0:41Speaker 1: because in days like this in the past. I mean,
- 0:43Speaker 1: it was just a couple of years ago we came
- 0:46Speaker 1: back from the Combine when you were starting to hear
- 0:49Speaker 1: that some of that stuff around, say Quon Barkley was
- 0:51Speaker 1: really real for the Eagles, and they wind up signing him.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It just it seemed like in the you know, the
- 0:56Speaker 1: Javon Hargrave, we were ahead of that too. There were
- 0:58Speaker 1: so many big name guys, and now you go into
- 1:01Speaker 1: this one and it's there's just you know, there are
- 1:03Speaker 1: a couple, as we outlined on our free agency previnew preview,
- 1:07Speaker 1: but I don't think this would be that exciting as
- 1:10Speaker 1: it as it comparably has been before.
- 1:12Speaker 2: As far as signings. No that we're expecting another we
- 1:16Speaker 2: said last year, and people yelled at us, so we
- 1:18Speaker 2: didn't know what we're talking about, but we were right.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Unfortunately we're I think we underestimated the low cash bend.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It was even lower than we expected. Yeah, that was
- 1:27Speaker 2: kind of stunning to be you know. And and how
- 1:28Speaker 2: he talked about it at the combine. Uh, he was
- 1:31Speaker 2: talking about with the media availability about if you go
- 1:35Speaker 2: heavy and money are you you got to go lower
- 1:38Speaker 2: in another one, which means if you let's say they
- 1:43Speaker 2: think they weren't dating trade for Max Cristy, let's say
- 1:45Speaker 2: would have done that, well, not only would Alvis jadenon
- 1:47Speaker 2: Phillips would have come back, but that might take it
- 1:50Speaker 2: from extending some contracts yep, or resigning some of the
- 1:53Speaker 2: free agents. And you know, you have to make tough
- 1:55Speaker 2: decisions like this, it's not easy. How he early his
- 1:58Speaker 2: curve is not very disciplined. Remember the twenty eleven I
- 2:00Speaker 2: know he didn't have personal control, but he was a GM.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Then twenty eleven come down, the lockout, the dream team year,
- 2:07Speaker 2: not the awesome one, and it was just a mess, right,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and he had a great line. I believe it was
- 2:14Speaker 2: this free agency. He talked about the way to do
- 2:17Speaker 2: it is we we draft and develop and that he
- 2:21Speaker 2: he might have said supplement, I don't remember the line
- 2:24Speaker 2: about about free agency, oh or you get involved sporadically, Yes, yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 2: And I thought that was a good line. That that's
- 2:32Speaker 2: he he's kind of the king of free agency. But
- 2:34Speaker 2: he's been so much more discipline now. I will though,
- 2:37Speaker 2: I will tell you that Barkley went surprising because it
- 2:40Speaker 2: it's kind of like he said, the last couple of years,
- 2:41Speaker 2: they finally started change the way they think investing in linebackers. Yep,
- 2:46Speaker 2: not the traditional way.
- 2:47Speaker 1: They've drafting one even also even drafting one in the
- 2:50Speaker 1: first round, right right.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Well not a pure linebacker, but okay, yeah, so far
- 2:56Speaker 2: but yeah, but yeah, he but but that but to
- 2:59Speaker 2: that at least did what he is a linebacker, right
- 3:02Speaker 2: and signing Barkley to big money like that was not
- 3:05Speaker 2: the way they've ever done business other than they did
- 3:08Speaker 2: extend Westbrook's contract the last time, and unfortunately, you know,
- 3:11Speaker 2: he his knee was bad. Ye went to San Francisco
- 3:15Speaker 2: and his career, but b west deserved it because he'd
- 3:18Speaker 2: he'd been low paid. Yeah, and you know that that
- 3:21Speaker 2: was one but they didn't really they really have not invested,
- 3:25Speaker 2: so we'll bring this all up. Like sometimes you have
- 3:28Speaker 2: to grow and evolve, yes, and they've done that here.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Like I never thought they'd run a thirty four front ever,
- 3:35Speaker 2: I know, okay, Billy Davis did when he came in
- 3:37Speaker 2: here with Chip Kelly, and that even that was a surprise.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So yeah, look, that's why we can't pigeonhole Howie anymore
- 3:44Speaker 2: on the way he does business. He's kind of changed
- 3:46Speaker 2: it up and that's why they're as good as they
- 3:48Speaker 2: have been.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Well, there's definitely a change that's under gone. Even more
- 3:52Speaker 1: so because there was a time when if the Eagles had,
- 3:56Speaker 1: say four core free agents like they do right now,
- 3:59Speaker 1: which is Dallas got at re blanket Ship, Jalen Phillips,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and who am I missing, oh, Nikobe Dellen, that after
- 4:06Speaker 1: they would come back from the combine and get a
- 4:08Speaker 1: better idea of the market value within that week or
- 4:12Speaker 1: eight days whatever it is, between the end of the
- 4:14Speaker 1: combine and the start of the new year, you would
- 4:16Speaker 1: often see somebody get an extension and stay before they
- 4:20Speaker 1: hit free agency. The fact that we've made it this
- 4:23Speaker 1: far and the only extension we've seen we'll talk about
- 4:26Speaker 1: is for Jordan Davis, who is not going to be
- 4:28Speaker 1: a free agent. It's an interesting, I don't not a
- 4:32Speaker 1: total twist, but.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It's pretty.
- 4:36Speaker 1: New for the for the Eagles. And I'm not going
- 4:38Speaker 1: to say that none of those four are coming back,
- 4:40Speaker 1: but you would know who they want to prioritize because
- 4:43Speaker 1: those guys would have extensions within two or three days
- 4:46Speaker 1: of coming back from the combine. Now, anything can happen
- 4:49Speaker 1: because we're listening, you know, people listening to this. Something
- 4:52Speaker 1: could happen early in the morning after we record. But
- 4:55Speaker 1: the point is, if it gets to noon and none
- 4:57Speaker 1: of those four guys get an extension with the Eagles,
- 4:59Speaker 1: that means they all have a I don't want to
- 5:02Speaker 1: say good. They all have a chance to go somewhere else,
- 5:04Speaker 1: which not was always the case back.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I mean, if they don't write, if they don't re
- 5:07Speaker 2: sign by where they don't have an agreement right.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Right, doesn't mean they can't come back. It doesn't mean
- 5:12Speaker 1: they can't come back. I want to be clear. I'm
- 5:14Speaker 1: just saying the Eagles I used to identify like we
- 5:16Speaker 1: don't want this guy out of the house, We'll get
- 5:18Speaker 1: him signed. And now you know that's that's changed A
- 5:22Speaker 1: little bit and we'll see what happens.
- 5:23Speaker 2: The big ones Jalen Phillips. If it gets twelve noon Eastern,
- 5:26Speaker 2: that's when the open period comes. When the agent's not
- 5:30Speaker 2: the players, unless you represent yourself the agents in this
- 5:34Speaker 2: case for the Eagles who represent the Eagles free agents,
- 5:37Speaker 2: they could talk to other teams. Basically, the way it
- 5:40Speaker 2: works is the teams that do it by the book,
- 5:42Speaker 2: they'll let the agent know. This is the way agents
- 5:44Speaker 2: tell me. They seem to the combat. Hey we'll be
- 5:46Speaker 2: in touch. We want to do it. You know, well
- 5:49Speaker 2: we may hit you up Sunday night, but it's just
- 5:51Speaker 2: to tell you we're please pick the phone up at
- 5:53Speaker 2: twelve o'clock. Yeah, that's funny because the first year of it,
- 5:58Speaker 2: I remember being in a hotel room and you're going
- 6:02Speaker 2: ESPN the next day and this agent was blowing me up.
- 6:06Speaker 2: He goes, dude, I'm not getting into calls. It was
- 6:07Speaker 2: Saturday night. I said, well, what did the teams tell you?
- 6:10Speaker 2: They said, well, they weren't really sure how they had
- 6:13Speaker 2: handle because this is new for them because they'd always
- 6:15Speaker 2: just tamper right, and now now they just say, hey,
- 6:19Speaker 2: we'll be in touch because they letnight the hey, we're interested. Now.
- 6:22Speaker 2: There are times, though, the Byron Jones one, where when
- 6:26Speaker 2: you're involved with the number one free agent, you're not
- 6:28Speaker 2: waiting till twelve o'clock. You're well, you're waiting till you're
- 6:31Speaker 2: letting them know, Hey, we want them. What do we
- 6:34Speaker 2: got to do? We want to be involved? Yeah, you
- 6:37Speaker 2: know whatever team It was Miami, Oakland and back then,
- 6:41Speaker 2: and then they moved to Las Vegas, but it was
- 6:43Speaker 2: the Raiders, the Dolphins and the Eagles, and that thing
- 6:46Speaker 2: got so big. I mean, he you know, when you
- 6:50Speaker 2: want a guy, you have to let the agent know.
- 6:53Speaker 2: What do we have to do. It's like I remember
- 6:55Speaker 2: Wretch Ryan talking about showing up to the guy's house
- 7:00Speaker 2: when you're allowed to you know whatever. It's just you
- 7:01Speaker 2: got you got to show the love. But it now,
- 7:05Speaker 2: I do believe though we'll get to we'll get to
- 7:07Speaker 2: this more later though. They're gonna be a little bit
- 7:08Speaker 2: more involved in free agency than were last year. Mhm.
- 7:11Speaker 2: But on your point, though, they may have even more
- 7:16Speaker 2: to spend if if if, or they make it involved
- 7:18Speaker 2: in the trademarket. If Phillips gets away, I mean, you're
- 7:22Speaker 2: not going to announce you're just not gonna rely on
- 7:25Speaker 2: Nolan Smith to be a starter. They could get in
- 7:27Speaker 2: the trade market, they could get more active in the
- 7:30Speaker 2: free agent market.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and man if Dallas gets away, which is possible too,
- 7:35Speaker 1: they really have zero at tight end. As we have
- 7:37Speaker 1: gone through, I do want to point out there is
- 7:40Speaker 1: one subtle change this year to the legal negotiating period
- 7:44Speaker 1: or whatever you wanted.
- 7:45Speaker 2: The negotiating period is.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That teams are allowed to conduct a one hour zoom
- 7:50Speaker 1: with up to five free agents during this period.
- 7:54Speaker 2: That path, I forget did that rule it passed so.
- 7:57Speaker 1: That I don't know, this could sort of be a
- 8:00Speaker 1: thing that changes free agency dramatically or just none at all.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I have to have to wait and see. But like,
- 8:05Speaker 1: if you're a free agent and you're got like like
- 8:07Speaker 1: you're talking about Byron Jones, you got two or three offers,
- 8:10Speaker 1: and then you decide to give a couple of coaches
- 8:13Speaker 1: or teams an hour on zoom just to see, you know,
- 8:16Speaker 1: they're all close offers, maybe you feel more comfortable. It
- 8:19Speaker 1: could just delay, like you were saying, like sometimes the
- 8:21Speaker 1: big guys, like a Trey Hendrickson, right, he might be
- 8:23Speaker 1: new and bam you'll hear a report. Maybe it'll delay
- 8:26Speaker 1: a little bit, as some free agents might give a
- 8:30Speaker 1: team or two the time of the day on zoom
- 8:32Speaker 1: just to figure out where they want to do.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I'm curious to see how the impact of that rule. Yeah,
- 8:37Speaker 2: I'm looking at the NFL centers Friday. They don't have
- 8:39Speaker 2: It's not in here.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Oh really, I know compel Sero had tweeted out earlier
- 8:45Speaker 1: that obviously NFL media.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well he wouldn't Yeah, he wouldn't would have
- 8:49Speaker 2: sent it to him. But yeah, because I know it's
- 8:51Speaker 2: been proposed, I just didn't know that it passed.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yeah, the Steelers were the ones that.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah said the Steelers are the ones who wanted it.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it was actually the way Ceral phrase it. It was
- 9:01Speaker 1: quietly approved over the spring. So that's probably why a
- 9:03Speaker 1: lot of people aren't talking about it.
- 9:05Speaker 2: But just to prosecuted to put it in the in
- 9:09Speaker 2: the file that they sent us here. But anyway, that's
- 9:13Speaker 2: that's good. But the bottom line is it's it's it's changed.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So when when Jeff and I were first started in
- 9:19Speaker 2: Cover League, they would free agenty started twelve minute eastern.
- 9:22Speaker 2: It was the worst, the absolute worst, awful. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 2: and and what happened was the clubs really started to
- 9:29Speaker 2: complain about it. Agents always would, but the clubs they
- 9:32Speaker 2: finally said enough, this is ridiculous. So it's twelve o'clock today,
- 9:36Speaker 2: Monday is the open negotiating period, the illegal tampering period,
- 9:39Speaker 2: and then Wednesday, at four pm Eastern, all restricted and
- 9:42Speaker 2: unrestricted free agents could start signing contracts. And what happens
- 9:46Speaker 2: is by Tuesday night, all the top guys are gone. Right.
- 9:50Speaker 2: It's similar to the NBA, but the NBA is more
- 9:53Speaker 2: fast and furious because you have shorter rosters. A lot
- 9:58Speaker 2: of the contracts are basically the veteran contracts are guaranteed.
- 10:01Speaker 2: They're they're worth more money than these NFL contracts. But
- 10:05Speaker 2: the difference is the NFL contracts, the NFL rosters are
- 10:07Speaker 2: way bigger, yep than NB and rosters. So that's that's
- 10:11Speaker 2: the comparison. Because people go crazy. But what they don't
- 10:13Speaker 2: mention in the NBA is that, oh, yeah, well you're
- 10:15Speaker 2: not paying fifteen guys fifty million apiece. You're paying like
- 10:19Speaker 2: two of them, right, you know, yes, it's different. It
- 10:24Speaker 2: is all right.
- 10:25Speaker 1: So I wanted to get into the Jordan Davis extension
- 10:28Speaker 1: with you and we can talk to our listeners about
- 10:30Speaker 1: it and viewers. But before that, I really do want
- 10:32Speaker 1: to report even better news from Inside the Birds all right,
- 10:36Speaker 1: for those who have been wondering and asking, Greg co
- 10:39Speaker 1: cell will be back with us very very soon The
- 10:41Speaker 1: Intel with Greg Cosell. The first one will come out
- 10:45Speaker 1: this week where he'll recap with us all the free
- 10:48Speaker 1: agent moves. We may get him on a second one later,
- 10:51Speaker 1: like the second wave of free agency, and then pretty
- 10:53Speaker 1: soon we're going to start doing our NFL Draft preview
- 10:57Speaker 1: shows with Greg where he will go through every single position,
- 11:01Speaker 1: all of the top players and sometimes more than just
- 11:05Speaker 1: the top players, sometimes up to fifteen to twenty players
- 11:08Speaker 1: at each position right here.
- 11:11Speaker 2: On Inside the Birds.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And then for our Patreon folks, we'll get him to
- 11:14Speaker 1: do some Ask Greg co sells. They love talking to
- 11:16Speaker 1: him and asking him questions. Greg loves doing it. So
- 11:20Speaker 1: if you're one of our great Patreon members, you will
- 11:22Speaker 1: and I know you've been anticipating it. It will be
- 11:25Speaker 1: very soon that Greg will be there for Ask Greg
- 11:27Speaker 1: co sales. And if you're not a Patreon member and
- 11:30Speaker 1: you don't realize you can do these things, plus get
- 11:33Speaker 1: every single podcast that we do in these previews. We
- 11:36Speaker 1: put them up early as well, position by position for
- 11:39Speaker 1: the draft, all commercial free, all read free, all early,
- 11:44Speaker 1: you get it all all access plus bonus contents, asking
- 11:48Speaker 1: Eagle other things that we Adam does a great Wednesday
- 11:52Speaker 1: live stream chat with all of our great Patreon folks
- 11:55Speaker 1: and he drops a lot of intel in that, so
- 11:58Speaker 1: Patreon dot com slash inside the Birds if you want
- 12:01Speaker 1: to get in.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Cool thing about this with Greg getting him back
- 12:05Speaker 2: this week, we don't just recap. We we go in.
- 12:07Speaker 2: It's like, Okay, this team's on this guy. How's he
- 12:12Speaker 2: fit schematically? Yep? What is this going to look like? Like?
- 12:15Speaker 2: This is this is We're really forward thinking on that show.
- 12:18Speaker 2: It's kind of cool and obviously, if the Eagles will
- 12:20Speaker 2: do anything by the end of the week, we'll probably
- 12:24Speaker 2: do something. So yeah, well we'll get him in and
- 12:27Speaker 2: break it down how that player will fit. It's it's
- 12:30Speaker 2: interesting because we we did this last year and it
- 12:32Speaker 2: was great because we waited for like three because we
- 12:35Speaker 2: can say, said, how many more players do we need
- 12:37Speaker 2: to have signed? You know, so we do a good
- 12:39Speaker 2: show and we did it and we're like, wow, this
- 12:41Speaker 2: is like phenomenal.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Right, all right, cool, So again Patreon dot com slash
- 12:47Speaker 1: inside the Birds, you really got to get in. It's
- 12:49Speaker 1: it's just access and information and can tell that you
- 12:52Speaker 1: just can't get anywhere else. And let's get on to
- 12:55Speaker 1: the extension here. So the Eagles, like I said, they
- 12:58Speaker 1: didn't reached an extension with any of their pending free
- 13:02Speaker 1: agents yet, but they did with Jordan Davis. This is
- 13:05Speaker 1: a guy adam that they put the they picked up
- 13:09Speaker 1: the fifth year option on last year. You know, we
- 13:12Speaker 1: talked about his first few years in the NFL. He
- 13:14Speaker 1: had not developed into what they envisioned when they traded
- 13:17Speaker 1: up and drafted him. But last year you really started
- 13:21Speaker 1: to I know, it goes back to the end of
- 13:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty four when they really started. That's why they
- 13:25Speaker 1: picked up the fifth year and believed that it would
- 13:28Speaker 1: be worth it. And then last year you definitely saw
- 13:30Speaker 1: him from the day one and training camp right with
- 13:32Speaker 1: the weight loss, the better conditioning, then the better hand technique,
- 13:37Speaker 1: the better pad level, all of that it really manifested
- 13:40Speaker 1: in the season and he became a much more impactful
- 13:43Speaker 1: player for the Eagles and he got a pretty big extension.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so this was kind of a lock that he
- 13:50Speaker 2: was going to get extension. I mean, it was just
- 13:52Speaker 2: this is we've known this for a while, this is
- 13:54Speaker 2: going to happen. We didn't know what was gonna happen,
- 13:57Speaker 2: Like you said, they could have waited till July, just
- 13:59Speaker 2: didn't or it's going to happen this offseason. So they
- 14:01Speaker 2: did it now and they and they know where the
- 14:04Speaker 2: cash is going. It's a three year extension worth seventy
- 14:07Speaker 2: eight million twenty six million per season. Haven't got the
- 14:09Speaker 2: structure of it, but typically it's it's like these all do.
- 14:13Speaker 2: With Eagles when they started changing it, they have option
- 14:16Speaker 2: bonuses every year starting year two through the end of it.
- 14:19Speaker 2: He signed now through twenty twenty nine. Yeah, it's the
- 14:22Speaker 2: fifth or option plus three new years. And yeah, he
- 14:25Speaker 2: changed agents and this is this is what we've seen.
- 14:27Speaker 2: We've seen like five or six players of the Eagles
- 14:29Speaker 2: last the last year change agents and expecting new deals.
- 14:32Speaker 2: And this was we don't rank them, but this is
- 14:35Speaker 2: the one I thought was kind of like the most
- 14:37Speaker 2: obvious one because you mentioned it. First two years bad
- 14:42Speaker 2: save a couple of plays here and there where you're like, wow,
- 14:44Speaker 2: this guy's he's not in good physical shape, lost weight
- 14:49Speaker 2: going from year two to three. Okay, then loss of
- 14:52Speaker 2: a massive amount of weight where I remember going to
- 14:54Speaker 2: training camp and like, where's his gut? He doesn't have one?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Right then he fill out the jersey. I'm like, this
- 14:58Speaker 2: is incredible. Let's see how well he played. Yeah, and
- 15:01Speaker 2: then but you mentioned the technique thing. That was the
- 15:04Speaker 2: one Greg said, this is the best. You could be
- 15:07Speaker 2: three point fifty and be rocked up. But if your
- 15:09Speaker 2: technique stinks, you play like your two hundred and twenty pounds
- 15:13Speaker 2: and that technique is everything, man, And he got it now.
- 15:16Speaker 2: He did a lot of talking. We heard behind the
- 15:18Speaker 2: scenes about how much heat is like, hey man, I'm
- 15:20Speaker 2: doing this, I'm doing that. It wouldn't happen. But then
- 15:23Speaker 2: it got it. The light went on and this is
- 15:25Speaker 2: a great learning experience, not only for anyone watching this,
- 15:28Speaker 2: but really in anyone who does player evaluation. You have
- 15:33Speaker 2: to you have to stick it out. It may look
- 15:36Speaker 2: really bad. And it did be on inside the tape
- 15:38Speaker 2: with Greg. How many times did we show it. Well,
- 15:41Speaker 2: we started doing that show three years ago. We're like
- 15:43Speaker 2: this is bad, Yes, this is ridiculously bad. Yep. And
- 15:47Speaker 2: then I think Clint Hurt obviously had a big impact
- 15:50Speaker 2: the d line coach. That was a great hire by
- 15:53Speaker 2: Vic because they worked together with the Bears. And don't
- 15:56Speaker 2: under estimate that move that. I don't know this is
- 15:58Speaker 2: happening without Clint Hurt, But Jordan Davis got hisself in
- 16:01Speaker 2: a great shape, playing the right way. And he might
- 16:06Speaker 2: have hired a dietitian or something like that. He might
- 16:08Speaker 2: have hired someone who cook his nails or something at
- 16:10Speaker 2: home or seeing some interview with him, he was taking
- 16:12Speaker 2: his diet seriously and you see it. Then you question
- 16:15Speaker 2: because I remember to start the season, we go, okay,
- 16:17Speaker 2: you're gonna know everything you need to know. If he's
- 16:19Speaker 2: playing less than fifty percent of snaps, it's over right.
- 16:22Speaker 2: You wound up playing what sixty seven percent, which is
- 16:24Speaker 2: two thirds something like that.
- 16:25Speaker 1: He was a little lower than that. I thought it
- 16:27Speaker 1: was sixty percent. I'll go give a second check on that,
- 16:31Speaker 1: but yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 2: But it was definitely way more. He was way up.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. So and look, he's never going
- 16:37Speaker 2: to be an a level pass rusher, but you see
- 16:39Speaker 2: a little bit better pass rush, right. But the thing is,
- 16:42Speaker 2: it's all about tape with this guy. Dominant football player dominant,
- 16:47Speaker 2: and Greg was his harsh critic. It was never personally
- 16:49Speaker 2: he goes, this is what the tape looks like. It's
- 16:50Speaker 2: not good enough. Right, rig said he had not had
- 16:53Speaker 2: so much fun watching a player in a long time.
- 16:55Speaker 2: This season. Yep, it's a pretty good compliment.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Just to show you how far came. So they said
- 17:02Speaker 1: at the end of twenty twenty four he really started
- 17:04Speaker 1: started to put it together a little bit more.
- 17:06Speaker 2: That gave them confidence.
- 17:07Speaker 1: But in twenty twenty four at him, he only played
- 17:09Speaker 1: thirty seven percent of the snaps. So think about that.
- 17:13Speaker 1: What do you think that looked like in the first, say,
- 17:15Speaker 1: thirteen weeks of the season before he actually started a
- 17:18Speaker 1: show like he was turning around a little bit over
- 17:20Speaker 1: the last four or five so probably was even lower
- 17:23Speaker 1: than thirty seven percent. But then last year sixty one percent.
- 17:27Speaker 2: One yeah, yeah, that's pretty good, big jump.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So when the numbers came out, and I'm very curious
- 17:34Speaker 1: to see the contract as well, I thought, wow, twenty
- 17:37Speaker 1: six million a year for a guy who even still
- 17:40Speaker 1: only plays sixty one percent of the snaps when you
- 17:43Speaker 1: compare him to like a Dexter Lawrence or trying to
- 17:47Speaker 1: think there was somebody else. I looked up Atlee McNeil,
- 17:49Speaker 1: Alee McNeil. They all play in like the seventy seventy
- 17:52Speaker 1: five they played more. I thought, that's quite a bit
- 17:55Speaker 1: to get, like market resetting money in that regard. But then,
- 17:58Speaker 1: as you just mentioned, it's three new years on top
- 18:01Speaker 1: of what is already in place next year where he
- 18:04Speaker 1: plays at like twelve million on the fifth year option.
- 18:06Speaker 1: So if you average that out, it's about twenty two
- 18:09Speaker 1: million a year. And I thought to myself, Okay, you
- 18:12Speaker 1: know what, I think that that makes sense, especially if
- 18:14Speaker 1: you're believing in this guy, and especially if you have
- 18:17Speaker 1: a plan going forward to play him even more snaps,
- 18:21Speaker 1: which could be possible if they feel like, yeah, they
- 18:27Speaker 1: can get.
- 18:27Speaker 2: More out of him from a pass rush standpoint. Yeah,
- 18:29Speaker 2: and that's gonna be I mean to be seventy to
- 18:31Speaker 2: seventy percent playtime. Guy, he's just not that good. Have
- 18:34Speaker 2: a pass rusher showed a little bit more, right, But
- 18:37Speaker 2: the fact that he won from thirty seven to sixty
- 18:40Speaker 2: one is a really big jump. And with Vic Fangreo,
- 18:43Speaker 2: you don't have to guess he's he's just he's telling
- 18:46Speaker 2: what he thinks. A guy Davis deserved to be on
- 18:48Speaker 2: the field. Boars. He's a major impact player, not only
- 18:51Speaker 2: against the run, just blown plays up because he's so massive,
- 18:55Speaker 2: he takes on two players. M hm. He's just and
- 19:00Speaker 2: he There weren't very many times this best season where
- 19:03Speaker 2: we said bad technique, bad technique, really said it.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You're right, you're right, but you know what's good. You
- 19:09Speaker 1: know what's good about that. I love that you pointed
- 19:10Speaker 1: that out. I wanted to make this point. There were
- 19:13Speaker 1: a couple of times when we did inside the tape
- 19:15Speaker 1: with Greg Cosel In a couple of games, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: they got run on a few times, the Bears sticks out.
- 19:20Speaker 1: There were a couple of other games, Giant the Giants game.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Remember when the first the game, the loss, they got
- 19:24Speaker 1: ran on by who's the rookie what's his name for
- 19:28Speaker 1: the kids from Arizona State who got hurt, Yes, Scataboo,
- 19:31Speaker 1: and then the other guy ran on and then the
- 19:33Speaker 1: quarterback round on him. There were times where we would
- 19:36Speaker 1: would watch those parts of the tape and you would
- 19:38Speaker 1: see Jordan Davis playing a little high right and I
- 19:42Speaker 1: remember thinking, oh, is this like an ominous sign whereas
- 19:45Speaker 1: he's gonna go back and no, it just there were
- 19:49Speaker 1: there was just few and far between. So when a
- 19:52Speaker 1: guy that size, right, especially playing a lot more than
- 19:55Speaker 1: he's used to playing, you're gonna have to expect every
- 19:57Speaker 1: once in a while he's he's just you know, the
- 19:59Speaker 1: guy lining up across room is pretty good too, and
- 20:01Speaker 1: he may get high and lose his pad level.
- 20:04Speaker 2: That's going to happen.
- 20:04Speaker 1: The fact that he could respond the next game and
- 20:07Speaker 1: go two or three more without having that be habitual
- 20:09Speaker 1: was really good to say.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I'll give you another fact, this one I hadn't even
- 20:14Speaker 2: thought of. He hasn't missed the game since twenty twenty two.
- 20:18Speaker 2: He started fifty one straight. Wow. Yeah, he started all
- 20:22Speaker 2: twenty three, twenty four, and twenty five. We're just talking
- 20:25Speaker 2: regular season games. But that's really impressive. Yeah, it's he's
- 20:31Speaker 2: Then the next question is, okay, well, what what can
- 20:34Speaker 2: he be like? Okay, he took this big jomp. We
- 20:36Speaker 2: mentioned the snap counts four and a half sacks. His
- 20:39Speaker 2: combined tackle number was major career high in total tackles, assists,
- 20:45Speaker 2: and solo seventy two. It's a lot for detackle. Yep.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Because he's playing more snaps, he has more of an opportunity.
- 20:51Speaker 2: So is he a twenty you know, I don't know.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I don't know what it's pressure right in front of me.
- 20:56Speaker 2: But is he at eight sac guy four and a
- 20:58Speaker 2: half the season was his career high? Yeah? Maybe maybe?
- 21:02Speaker 2: Is he? Is he? You have two pressures per getting
- 21:04Speaker 2: like that's a lot. I don't see that. But is
- 21:06Speaker 2: he wanted a quarter pressure per game? Got Maybe because
- 21:10Speaker 2: he's gotten so much better and he cares. He always cared,
- 21:13Speaker 2: but he didn't understand mm hmm. And then something happened,
- 21:17Speaker 2: whether it's coaching, like we all mature as we get
- 21:21Speaker 2: through our twentiest least we hope we do. And he
- 21:23Speaker 2: matured and it's really remarkable because he was so bad
- 21:26Speaker 2: the first two years and so overweight. Yeah, and it
- 21:30Speaker 2: was just like you shake your head, like, what the
- 21:32Speaker 2: hell did they see in this guy?
- 21:34Speaker 1: I know now you see him get off like he'll
- 21:36Speaker 1: get off the line of scrimmage. He's he does a
- 21:38Speaker 1: lot of winning on first and second down because obviously
- 21:40Speaker 1: that's when he's in mostly, but when teams try to
- 21:42Speaker 1: pass on first down of play action, you've seen him
- 21:44Speaker 1: just like fully a guard right in front of him
- 21:47Speaker 1: and get get that quick pressure. So it's a good
- 21:49Speaker 1: it's it's really listen, it's a really good trajectory, and
- 21:52Speaker 1: you just hope that he continues to carry it over.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And now that he gets paid, it does make us
- 21:57Speaker 1: wonder it interestingly that he got paid and Jalen Carter,
- 22:02Speaker 1: who's also for an extension, is not yet as as
- 22:06Speaker 1: a recording this getting paid. And I know there was
- 22:08Speaker 1: a lot of stuff out there over the weekend.
- 22:10Speaker 2: What are your what's your.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Viewpoint of this Jaalen Carter situation?
- 22:14Speaker 2: What do you know again, I mean the timing you
- 22:19Speaker 2: can wait. I mean Carson Wentz when he was Egals quarterback,
- 22:22Speaker 2: got his extension in June. Yep, But we knew Carter
- 22:27Speaker 2: was getting one. We knew that Davis is going to
- 22:29Speaker 2: get one. We didn't know that he'd be first, right,
- 22:34Speaker 2: I know, I know there's the ESPN story about they've
- 22:36Speaker 2: been getting calls. Just so you know the way this
- 22:38Speaker 2: works when this when something like that comes out. You know,
- 22:41Speaker 2: I've dealt with this from talking clubs over there just
- 22:43Speaker 2: three reasons the club wants it out there. Either they
- 22:46Speaker 2: want to move the player, they want to see what
- 22:48Speaker 2: kind of interest is, or they want the agent and
- 22:52Speaker 2: player to know, Hey, we're not happy with this in negotiation,
- 22:54Speaker 2: we could trade you. I was gonna say.
- 22:56Speaker 1: The agent also can do this too, irrespective if the
- 22:59Speaker 1: agent was hoping to be extended by now, he can
- 23:02Speaker 1: start doing these calls saying, hey, you know you want
- 23:04Speaker 1: to trade for this guy because he's not getting his money.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Oh, so many agents, the smart agents, and he has
- 23:09Speaker 2: Drewersenus by the way, Jayleen Carter, the smart agents should
- 23:11Speaker 2: be doing that. Yep, you off the way, like the
- 23:14Speaker 2: club will get mad at you, get mad if that
- 23:16Speaker 2: they know the agent was leaking the stuff. I've heard
- 23:19Speaker 2: about that before. But anyway, so, yeah, there's a reason
- 23:22Speaker 2: for it. I always say with this stuff, we've learned.
- 23:26Speaker 2: This is our ninth year. Yeah, ninth year, Off insaid
- 23:29Speaker 2: the birds. You never say never with Howie in terms
- 23:32Speaker 2: of trading a player like this. I mean, he's Carter's
- 23:35Speaker 2: like almost at once in lifetime talent. But you've got
- 23:37Speaker 2: both the both shoulders, the shoe, you got the yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 2: the off the field stuff coming from college not not here,
- 23:44Speaker 2: but no again, you're you're talking about you're talking about
- 23:50Speaker 2: honestly thirty plus million a year, well over thirty million
- 23:54Speaker 2: a year there if he gets a deal here, I mean,
- 23:58Speaker 2: you got to be absolutely sure sure okay, when you
- 24:01Speaker 2: like you, it's you got to be absolutely sure that
- 24:05Speaker 2: you you you want to give him that that content.
- 24:07Speaker 2: That's that's a that's a that's a big pill to swallow.
- 24:10Speaker 2: If you're not sure you want you want to have
- 24:12Speaker 2: this hanging over your head. Yes, I just uh, I'm
- 24:17Speaker 2: just I'm I'm not rolling him out being traded. I
- 24:20Speaker 2: would be not shocked, surprised, shocked. I've learned myself. I
- 24:25Speaker 2: learned my lesson the Darius Sleigh situation. When they told
- 24:28Speaker 2: him he's being cut at eleven, it was like ten
- 24:32Speaker 2: or eleven am Eastern. I think it was like five
- 24:34Speaker 2: or sist o'clock eastern that night. Not only were they
- 24:36Speaker 2: not cutting him with a post June one, they extended
- 24:39Speaker 2: his contract and gave more guaranteed money. So I've learned
- 24:41Speaker 2: my lesson never say never man in this business. Yep.
- 24:45Speaker 2: But the Carter is like a he is an incredible talent.
- 24:50Speaker 2: But if you're concerned, But but look at this way, though,
- 24:54Speaker 2: if Eagles are willing to movement, obviously they get a
- 24:55Speaker 2: big hole for him. That other team better be absolutely
- 24:59Speaker 2: sure their shoulders. Yeah, you're gonna have to extend his
- 25:02Speaker 2: contract gataway if you give up something, if you trade
- 25:04Speaker 2: for him, it's gonna be a mat a lot of compensation.
- 25:06Speaker 2: You gotta extend his contract, so you better be comfortable
- 25:08Speaker 2: with it, right.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I think my radar would go up even more to
- 25:12Speaker 1: this point if Moro Jomo wound up getting an extension. Uh,
- 25:16Speaker 1: sometime soon he might, which which by the way, doesn't
- 25:19Speaker 1: mean they wouldn't get jail on Clark. But but I
- 25:21Speaker 1: just think it puts I think you're making the right
- 25:24Speaker 1: point here. A. They have every reason to not be
- 25:27Speaker 1: one hundred certain. He came out of Georgia with some
- 25:31Speaker 1: a some injury history and be some obvious you know,
- 25:34Speaker 1: off field baggage. While he's been an Eagle, he has
- 25:38Speaker 1: played at a high level at times, but it also
- 25:41Speaker 1: just this past year had major shoulder issues that made
- 25:45Speaker 1: him less of a player than he was. Uh, he
- 25:47Speaker 1: got ejected from a game spitting. There were a couple
- 25:50Speaker 1: of minor things here and there. So absolutely, and then
- 25:53Speaker 1: when you also open up the lens here a little
- 25:55Speaker 1: bit Adham Uh, and you know how he's right forward thinking,
- 25:59Speaker 1: how are you going to get Quentin Quinna, Mitchell Cooper,
- 26:03Speaker 1: de Jean Jylex Hunt. You just gave Jordan Davis money,
- 26:06Speaker 1: you might give Moro Joemo money that's you cannot pay.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Everybody said, yeah he did. Sometimes I think how he
- 26:15Speaker 1: says things like he's trying to like let you know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: you know, like we have difficult decisions to make and
- 26:20Speaker 1: things like that.
- 26:21Speaker 2: So again I would be surprised.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Also, I mean, this is the kind of player that
- 26:25Speaker 1: you identify, you draft high, you want to have for
- 26:28Speaker 1: a long time, but you're not gonna do it just
- 26:30Speaker 1: to do it, you need to be shown, just like
- 26:33Speaker 1: Jordan Davis, right, they needed he needed to show them
- 26:36Speaker 1: he was going to be a different player. They could
- 26:38Speaker 1: pick up the fifth year option, that doesn't mean anything,
- 26:40Speaker 1: right for the big money, you got to show it
- 26:42Speaker 1: to them.
- 26:42Speaker 2: And so I agree.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I'm I'm sort of waiting to see how this thing unfolds.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's fascinating. Now. If Jalen Phillips is not resigned,
- 26:53Speaker 2: they're going to be active in the edge market, whether
- 26:55Speaker 2: it's trade or whether it's someone like boy Mafe or
- 26:59Speaker 2: like whatever the best guys are because the thing, you know,
- 27:04Speaker 2: talking to people have dealt with Howie over the years,
- 27:06Speaker 2: other general managers and personnel people. He's just not he
- 27:10Speaker 2: is his chip on his shoulder like that's what He's
- 27:13Speaker 2: not perfect, He's all gems, are made mistakes, but he
- 27:16Speaker 2: always feels that duty that he's got to be They've
- 27:18Speaker 2: got to be competitive. They're never going to rebuild. That's
- 27:20Speaker 2: how I have retool. Yes, yes, coming out of twenty twenty,
- 27:25Speaker 2: they retooled and they got gradually better. It was really
- 27:28Speaker 2: good sort of retooling, if you want to call it.
- 27:32Speaker 2: But you trade Jalen Carterway or Carter's still here, you
- 27:36Speaker 2: extend them, but Jalen Phillips is not here. Not that
- 27:39Speaker 2: Jalen Phillips is at a level at rusher. He's pretty
- 27:41Speaker 2: good player, did well, didn't have a lot of sacks,
- 27:44Speaker 2: but a lot of good pressures. Good good player. Yeah,
- 27:47Speaker 2: but Noland Smith is just not shown enough. He's just
- 27:51Speaker 2: not So.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Did the did the Crosby trades of the Ravens help
- 27:57Speaker 1: or hurt the Eagles? Because I'm thinking about it, Well,
- 27:59Speaker 1: now there's still teams that want edge rushers. There's there
- 28:02Speaker 1: are a few teams that really stick out, like the Bears.
- 28:05Speaker 1: They just seem like all their moves they made, and
- 28:07Speaker 1: I think Trey Hendrickson's the natural connection because he was
- 28:11Speaker 1: drafted by the Saints and played for Dennis Allen, who
- 28:14Speaker 1: is now the Bears defensive coordinator.
- 28:15Speaker 2: That doesn't mean that's.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Gonna happen, but you know the Bears are going to
- 28:18Speaker 1: be active with their money. So if that takes Trey
- 28:21Speaker 1: Hendrickson out quickly, then there's still a bunch of teams
- 28:24Speaker 1: that need edge rushers that you would think might view
- 28:27Speaker 1: Jalen Phillips as the next best guy. So the Crosby
- 28:29Speaker 1: thing might hurt the Eagles a little bit, and although
- 28:31Speaker 1: it did take another team that needs ed rushers probably
- 28:34Speaker 1: off the free agent market.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, well, there's so many teams that need to edge rushers.
- 28:39Speaker 2: My goodness, I'm looking at my chart here. Holy smokes, Yeah,
- 28:42Speaker 2: it's there. At what's happened, right?
- 28:45Speaker 1: The teams to watch are the ones that are good
- 28:48Speaker 1: and have quarterbacks under rookie deals or like the Seahawks
- 28:52Speaker 1: who have Darnold under a manageable deal. Right, those are
- 28:54Speaker 1: the teams that you got to be scared of because
- 28:56Speaker 1: they got money because their quarterback is good, not a
- 28:59Speaker 1: rookie deal.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Chicago's got I mean, they have to do something.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Commanders Chicago, those two teams jump out to me as
- 29:06Speaker 1: the most They got money to spend. They need edge
- 29:08Speaker 1: rushers and they have quarterbacks on rookie deal.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Well it's funny though, because Adam Peters did say on
- 29:13Speaker 2: the record, he goes he knows, he's aware that they
- 29:15Speaker 2: had the oldest team in the NFL. They have to
- 29:17Speaker 2: get younger. Well, Henderson is going to be thirty one, right,
- 29:20Speaker 2: but he's a game. He's such a great player. He
- 29:23Speaker 2: look he he was pretty beat up last season, the
- 29:25Speaker 2: hip injury. It's pretty bad. But if I'm Chicago, to
- 29:31Speaker 2: me this this is a game changer. My test. What
- 29:34Speaker 2: is a power end? And Io Dengbo signed a big
- 29:38Speaker 2: fre agent deal two years of fully guaranteed. Bunny pretty
- 29:40Speaker 2: much fully guaranteed for two years. He's going on for
- 29:43Speaker 2: torn achilles, so who the heck knows about him? They
- 29:45Speaker 2: have to do something, and they got to suck it
- 29:48Speaker 2: up because they're not going anywhere without it. Their pass
- 29:51Speaker 2: rushers is awful, to be honest with you, it's not
- 29:53Speaker 2: good indeed. And what you're right about Washington. The thing
- 29:57Speaker 2: is that like they were unreal at two years ago
- 30:00Speaker 2: and then came out of nowhere. They were a terrible,
- 30:03Speaker 2: terrible jury situation.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they have a they need they need major help
- 30:07Speaker 2: at edge Rush. But I would if i'm them, I
- 30:12Speaker 2: might want to look at boy Mafe or a Way
- 30:16Speaker 2: only because are they really this close to winning the
- 30:19Speaker 2: Super Bowl? I don't know, Man, they were so bad
- 30:21Speaker 2: last season. Washington.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good question. I mean, you don't want
- 30:26Speaker 1: to tell yourself we're not there yet. You want to
- 30:27Speaker 1: make like the Eagles. Man, they went from six to ten, right,
- 30:30Speaker 1: and then they were in the Super Bowl next year
- 30:32Speaker 1: by Carson Wentz the second year, and now you've got
- 30:34Speaker 1: Jen Daniels in his third year. You're not going to
- 30:36Speaker 1: have them under under this kind of deal for too long.
- 30:39Speaker 1: So if you have the opportunity to be aggressive on
- 30:41Speaker 1: good young talent, you might as well do it. So
- 30:44Speaker 1: I guess I I I you know, we'll see they
- 30:46Speaker 1: I guess they let's beatist go right, And now I
- 30:48Speaker 1: saw a report that they.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Might be in on Linderbaum, So we'll see. We'll see.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Here is my point is those teams that have the
- 30:55Speaker 1: money and have quarterbacks weren't making a lot.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and look they're they're I mean honestly, but I
- 31:01Speaker 2: know that Buffalo's edge group is not good enough. It
- 31:04Speaker 2: was definitely not good enough. They obviously they made the
- 31:06Speaker 2: big trade for DJ Moore and he's gonna make twenty
- 31:08Speaker 2: twenty four point five million this season. Yep. So I
- 31:11Speaker 2: don't know if they're gonna want to add a lot
- 31:13Speaker 2: of money, but my goodness, gracious, they have an edge
- 31:16Speaker 2: rush problem in the worst way. Joey Bosa's contracts up
- 31:21Speaker 2: ho yep. I think I think koy got hurt last season.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken. Michael Hoyt, Yeah, I think he got
- 31:28Speaker 2: I think yeah, he think he got an achilles injury.
- 31:30Speaker 2: So they have nothing they need. They are an edge
- 31:33Speaker 2: rusher or a big time edg rusher away from doing
- 31:36Speaker 2: being really really good. We're assuming DJ more will be
- 31:39Speaker 2: good for them, but yeah, it's just you look at it,
- 31:43Speaker 2: there's so the lines need it. Their edge rush group's
- 31:46Speaker 2: not good enough. Other than Hutchinson's, it's clearly not good enough.
- 31:51Speaker 2: But the Bears, to me, that's a game changer. Hendrickson,
- 31:55Speaker 2: you got to I know he's older, but you have
- 31:58Speaker 2: to figure he's got at least years left at him. Again,
- 32:00Speaker 2: he doesn't have he doesn't have a big injury history. No,
- 32:03Speaker 2: you know, no, he's a great player.
- 32:06Speaker 1: All right, Let's let's just remind everybody what the Eagles
- 32:09Speaker 1: are looking at with all their free agents, because they
- 32:11Speaker 1: have so many on offense. On offense, Sam Howe quarterback,
- 32:16Speaker 1: his contract expired, running back AJ Dillon, wide receiver Johan Dotson. Now,
- 32:22Speaker 1: you know, it's not a huge loss at him because
- 32:24Speaker 1: if he leaves because of the lack of production, But
- 32:27Speaker 1: you have to remember this guy basically was their number
- 32:30Speaker 1: three receiver when they were an eleven personnel outside of
- 32:33Speaker 1: the few times they might put Darius Cooper or somebody
- 32:35Speaker 1: else in there, he was their eleven personnel three receiver.
- 32:38Speaker 1: That's not an easily replaceable guy. I mean, I know
- 32:41Speaker 1: his production wasn't great over the last two years, but
- 32:43Speaker 1: it's also not a spot that you just like, you know,
- 32:46Speaker 1: tis gap.
- 32:47Speaker 2: That's that's a big loss. Hey, I know a.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Lot of you out there are just like me. You
- 32:51Speaker 1: either travel a lot for work or you got a
- 32:54Speaker 1: back to work policy and you're always out of the house,

- 34:46Speaker 1: Camedn Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices, and an experience
- 34:51Speaker 1: made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and the question they will be on love and personal.
- 34:57Speaker 2: How much are they gonna run on a Sean Manion?
- 34:59Speaker 2: We don't know that, but you have to have someone
- 35:02Speaker 2: of quality. And look, there are enough guys out there
- 35:07Speaker 2: you'd like that. But what you really like is the
- 35:09Speaker 2: guy to be able to play inside. We know somebody
- 35:12Speaker 2: can play inside. He's done His numbers are good over
- 35:14Speaker 2: the years when he's done it. But he's not a
- 35:15Speaker 2: true slot receiver. You like someone who you know could
- 35:17Speaker 2: play inside, who could dominate, whether it's for one season
- 35:21Speaker 2: or if you want to go with an established guy,
- 35:24Speaker 2: or you want to go the younger slot either or
- 35:27Speaker 2: that you like to have one. They really haven't had
- 35:28Speaker 2: a true slot in a while.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so they'll have to figure that out. And
- 35:33Speaker 1: then to your other question, well, maybe there'll be more
- 35:36Speaker 1: twelve personnel, Well, guess what, they fish the same issue
- 35:38Speaker 1: because Dallas got it. Grant Calcatara and Kyline Grantson are
- 35:42Speaker 1: all free agents, so that means their only tight ends
- 35:45Speaker 1: under contract are cam Lattu, who they also converted to fullback,
- 35:51Speaker 1: and then Jaheen bell Is that is that accurate?
- 35:54Speaker 2: He's on there and j Jenkins. None of them, none
- 35:58Speaker 2: of them are number one or number two. Okay, Now
- 36:01Speaker 2: what they need to do this new staff is move
- 36:03Speaker 2: lots from full back to tight end. For goodness sake.
- 36:06Speaker 2: That was just ridiculous having those cross across the field blocks,
- 36:10Speaker 2: which he's too tough to execute. That was a mistake.
- 36:14Speaker 2: They need to get him back and see ROWNI would
- 36:16Speaker 2: never answer the question when the reporters would rightfully ask
- 36:18Speaker 2: the right because they're watching tape, like, what what's going
- 36:21Speaker 2: on with this? And he would never he would always
- 36:24Speaker 2: like sidestep the question like he wouldn't he didn't want
- 36:26Speaker 2: to criticize Patula.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I guess he was always do we put the personnel
- 36:29Speaker 1: on the field that we think has the best chance
- 36:31Speaker 1: to succeed.
- 36:32Speaker 2: No, but it's the way you're using them. And then
- 36:35Speaker 2: obviously with cal Katara, yes he doesn't block very well.
- 36:38Speaker 2: But it was just the odd thing that that Petullo
- 36:41Speaker 2: and Jason Michael were asking and maybe stout asking U
- 36:46Speaker 2: their tight ends to do, particularly those guys. But anyway, Uh, yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 2: so you're right, tight end is a major problem. Uh Goddard.
- 36:54Speaker 2: The way we we see this as kind of the
- 36:56Speaker 2: way that HOWI typically does is he they have interested
- 36:59Speaker 2: in bringing him back, but because of his age at
- 37:02Speaker 2: thirty one, he just turned in January. You stay in
- 37:06Speaker 2: touch with the agent, let us know what you're what
- 37:09Speaker 2: you're looking at, and see if give us a chance
- 37:10Speaker 2: to match it simply what he does. And then sometimes
- 37:14Speaker 2: I got no, that's a really good deal. Go ahead, man,
- 37:15Speaker 2: we can't do that. But yeah, no, if if they
- 37:19Speaker 2: get him back, great, that will have no impact on
- 37:22Speaker 2: what they do in the draft, like none, right, yeah,
- 37:25Speaker 2: yeaht or not? No? No, what's that.
- 37:30Speaker 1: They really need a future tight end?
- 37:32Speaker 2: Yeah? But it does though if they get got her
- 37:35Speaker 2: back and they team him up with a first or
- 37:36Speaker 2: second round pick, there you go, Hey they did it.
- 37:41Speaker 2: When when Arts is twenty seven years old they draft
- 37:43Speaker 2: got it isn't funny how Tom fly Sack now it's
- 37:45Speaker 2: thirty five years.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Old, still wants to play, still wants to play the
- 37:49Speaker 1: second agound.
- 37:51Speaker 2: All right?
- 37:51Speaker 1: And then moving on, we got the two offensive linemen
- 37:53Speaker 1: that we've been discussing for quite a bit, Brett Toth
- 37:56Speaker 1: and Fred Johnson, two key pieces of offensive and depth
- 38:00Speaker 1: that are also.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Going to be free agents.
- 38:02Speaker 1: And then you get the defense, Adam, the three guys
- 38:05Speaker 1: we've talked about, Jalen Phillips, Nikobe Dean Red Blanketship. But
- 38:09Speaker 1: when you look at the edge group, it's sort of
- 38:10Speaker 1: like what we said about tight end. You know, Phillips,
- 38:13Speaker 1: Brandon Graham, josh Uja Azizo, Jelari and Obo Okoronkwo are
- 38:18Speaker 1: all free agents to be and if they all wind up, well,
- 38:22Speaker 1: we know Brandon Graham's not going anywhere. But you know,
- 38:24Speaker 1: I'm saying the point is you're gonna have very few
- 38:26Speaker 1: guys under contract by noon, and that would just be
- 38:30Speaker 1: basically Jallex Hunt, Nolan Smith and what Jose Ramirez.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Ramirez, Yes, the back player of the when you hear so, yeah,
- 38:38Speaker 2: they they're they're incredibly lean and if Phillips leaves, they
- 38:43Speaker 2: really need to they have to have at least two
- 38:45Speaker 2: edges because right now, if Phillips does leave, it's Nolan
- 38:52Speaker 2: Smith and Jylex Hunt, and that's it in terms of
- 38:55Speaker 2: potential starters, and Hunt you would think would be is
- 38:58Speaker 2: going to start. He really came on. He had a
- 38:59Speaker 2: good year. Yeah, he's really he's his upside is tremendous.
- 39:03Speaker 2: And then Nolan Smith is kind of a wild card.
- 39:05Speaker 2: I don't know what to expect from doing all the injuries,
- 39:07Speaker 2: the triceps injuries. So yeah, they they but look, if
- 39:12Speaker 2: they get Phillips back, they still need another guy one.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Now it what it means is it if that happens,
- 39:20Speaker 2: they it doesn't. You don't need anything special. You could
- 39:24Speaker 2: draft somebody, sign a journeyman because Phillips is what it's about.
- 39:28Speaker 2: If it's not. If not, then they have to do
- 39:30Speaker 2: something significant and that that's they're not going to the
- 39:33Speaker 2: off season with with Nolan Smith as starter. That's not happening.
- 39:36Speaker 2: And when I when I talk, either it's Phillips or
- 39:38Speaker 2: they make a trade or they draft somebody where they
- 39:40Speaker 2: sign a veteran free agent. I see, like the guys
- 39:46Speaker 2: that are out there to boy ma fe oh wait
- 39:50Speaker 2: did very well after that trade by the way, after
- 39:52Speaker 2: trade from Baltimore. Yeah the Chargers, right, yeah, really well, yeah,
- 39:57Speaker 2: they'll they'll, they'll be on it. Boy the lit my,
- 40:03Speaker 2: what does this drop off after those guys as they're
- 40:06Speaker 2: like upside guys like Chasin or a first rounder with
- 40:09Speaker 2: the Jackson was with the Patriots. Yeah, he's not good enough.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Epicetty's kind of an interesting player, but he's not a starter. Yeah,
- 40:18Speaker 2: it's it'll be tough. It'll be tough for they don't
- 40:22Speaker 2: get Fillis back, but they're gonna have competition and that's
- 40:24Speaker 2: the bottom line, that's right.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And then in the secondary, along with blanket Ship, as
- 40:28Speaker 1: we have discussed, adri Jackson, Marcus EPs also headed for
- 40:32Speaker 1: free agency. So to sum it up, and I think
- 40:34Speaker 1: you have hit this on the head quite a bit
- 40:36Speaker 1: throughout the week, Eagles have a lot of holes, like
- 40:39Speaker 1: more than usual for this time of the year. Now,
- 40:42Speaker 1: they could bring a bunch of these guys back and
- 40:44Speaker 1: it won't be the case. But as we sit here
- 40:47Speaker 1: right now, the Eagle's got a lot of work to do.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple of things in closing here. They'll spend
- 40:54Speaker 2: more money in free agency this year than they did
- 40:56Speaker 2: last year. I don't see how they could spend less.
- 40:58Speaker 2: And it was like, I don't have the final total,
- 41:01Speaker 2: but this is including the Harrison Bryant of the world
- 41:03Speaker 2: that never made it. And Ojelari got the biggest deal
- 41:07Speaker 2: of about four million, right, I mean you're talking about
- 41:10Speaker 2: I think they spent under twenty million for like twelve
- 41:12Speaker 2: players something like that. This is a ridiculous number, low number. Yeah,
- 41:16Speaker 2: this joke was so in two weeks ago. I said,
- 41:17Speaker 2: Phillips comes back his first year cash number probably higher
- 41:20Speaker 2: than everything they did with trying to sign player from
- 41:22Speaker 2: other teams.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Probably true.
- 41:25Speaker 2: But see, just so folks know that the cash budget
- 41:28Speaker 2: you're given from ownership, this includes all you're spending. So
- 41:32Speaker 2: and they don't tell you what to do. You deal
- 41:33Speaker 2: with what you want. But the problem is you can't
- 41:35Speaker 2: go you can't ask for more money if you're given
- 41:37Speaker 2: a cash budget for twenty six or three hundred million.
- 41:40Speaker 2: This includes extensions ye under this year. Whatever cash number
- 41:47Speaker 2: they're under, they're going to be signing for for this season.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Resigning your players, extending your players, signing free agents off
- 41:54Speaker 2: the street, players you acquire in the draft, players you
- 41:57Speaker 2: acquire in free agency. So you can't go back. I've
- 42:01Speaker 2: asked GMS this before. I said absolutely not. Well, I'm
- 42:02Speaker 2: not gonna get fired, because what happens is if they're
- 42:05Speaker 2: gonna your owner is gonna say to you, what you
- 42:07Speaker 2: didn't understand the market? What the hell you doing all day?
- 42:09Speaker 2: You know they're gone, They're gonna get on you. So right,
- 42:12Speaker 2: that's why this budgeting is tough. Man last year was tough,
- 42:15Speaker 2: and then how he made it pretty He was pretty
- 42:18Speaker 2: pretty truthful. I think at the combine like you, we're
- 42:23Speaker 2: a draft and developed team. We're gonna we're gonna we
- 42:25Speaker 2: want to resign our own players and Spraccoli do free agency.
- 42:28Speaker 2: But what happens if you don't resign your own players,
- 42:30Speaker 2: well you have to go into free agency. That's right.
- 42:33Speaker 1: They've already spent some cash for this year already with
- 42:36Speaker 1: the Jordan Davis extensions that was. You know, whatever his
- 42:39Speaker 1: signing bonus is going to wind up being, is the
- 42:41Speaker 1: cash that they spent already this year.
- 42:43Speaker 2: All right, well, it'll.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Be very eventful week. We'll have free agency recap, we'll
- 42:49Speaker 1: have podcasts and pretty soon after that we'll have Greg
- 42:51Speaker 1: co Sella to break down the tape of free agents
- 42:54Speaker 1: and it'll be exciting.
- 42:55Speaker 2: What's up? Oh yeah, real quick? So if they do
- 42:57Speaker 2: anything significant, we'll do emergency pods absolutely. If they even
- 43:00Speaker 2: if it's losing players, you know, if they least two
- 43:05Speaker 2: or three on one day, we may have to do something.
- 43:06Speaker 2: And if they make a couple of interesting moves, heck
- 43:08Speaker 2: we'll do it too. Yeah. So it's good for.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Traffic, it's always good. We will keep you into and
- 43:14Speaker 1: of course follow our website. Andrew Dcheco will have everything
- 43:17Speaker 1: broken down on the website, Inside the Birds dot Com
- 43:19Speaker 1: and of course on the to Checo Daily as well.
- 43:21Speaker 1: That's gonna do it for this edition of the Inside
- 43:25Speaker 1: the Birds, the Leading Podcast and Eagles Intel, and as always,
- 43:29Speaker 1: we thank you for flying with us Inside the Birds
