- 0:00Speaker 1: Dave Clausen's BDFSU three times in a row.
- 0:03Speaker 1: He's going to get him four times in a row.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Kirk Herbstree has it on upset alert.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Good idea, right?
- 0:09Speaker 1: Unrealized idea, unrealized.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Hey, we got an instant reaction.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Welcome back to the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Fsu gets by Wake Forest 41-16.
- 0:37Speaker 1: In a game that they dominated, we're going to talk about it.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're going to talk about what we thought, because when you lose to a team three straight years, you're actually kind of nervous.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And Forest State answered the bell.
- 1:03Speaker 1: It was up big at halftime 34 to 7 at halftime.
- 1:10Speaker 1: We're going to talk about all the intricacies of the game.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Right, our first response to the game.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Looks like some things showed up, but I got Jimi Arena with me.
- 1:25Speaker 1: We just got done watching it, took care of business, right man?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I mean I give 10 points to the officials, yeah there was a couple calls that were necessary, but it was almost like the penalties you like to see, but they were very ticky tack.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Just ridiculous, man.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I mean we knew going in there that it was going to be the same old, same old, same old.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But yeah took care of business.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Did not look good early like in terms of crisp and clean.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Managed to put seven points on the board with basically just kind of sleepwalking our way through the drive.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Right that first drive.
- 2:12Speaker 1: In particular, Jordan Travis threw the ball right to a way for us to fender.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It looked like a miscommunication between him and Keon Coleman.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he slipped a little bit coming out of that cut.
- 2:22Speaker 2: But it would have been a contested pass either way, but yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but I would say, man, this team thrives off adversity.
- 2:31Speaker 1: This team thrives, it's very resilient.
- 2:33Speaker 1: It's almost like every game this season.
- 2:35Speaker 1: They haven't played their best until they get punched and you're almost like OK, wait, wait, come on, you're going to punch us, you're going to punch us, boom, you did OK.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You see, you know we get that one long run play.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Other than that, I don't really.
- 2:48Speaker 2: There wasn't a whole lot that they did offensively that wasn't assisted by the Zebras.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Right, well, we knew that coming in and if you don't, jimmy was already talking about that before the game.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, man, you know.
- 3:02Speaker 1: But that's good that the team was able to.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You saw Novel and he doesn't get on the officials much, but he was on them.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I think you're right, man.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I think Klossin does a really good job of finding tendencies in teams every week that these teams tend to hold in their secondary or they tend to kind of, you know, they hold on the front when they run this play.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I think he does a really good job of that and works those officials for the entire first quarter, and then you saw the flag start coming out, second quarter and then again, you know, fourth quarter.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Whatever you know you're right, though, this team is very resilient.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Leadership is is Just across the board, both sides of the ball and and what's funny is that it most of it was was obtained through the, through the transfer portal.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But you know that I mean, I can't say enough about the game that that Jordan Travis played.
- 4:01Speaker 2: He wasn't as accurate as he has been in the past, but, man dude, some of the throws he made.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I agree with Robert Griffin.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I think his, his, his Heisman talk needs to kind of kind of amp up a little bit exactly well, especially when you get the Fortunate drops by the opponent that go.
- 4:25Speaker 1: They're gonna help your numbers in the beginning, like I remember saying that.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I was like this is the kind of break you get when it's your year and he almost takes a little luck.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He, he's a, he's a fighter, he's a teammate, he's a gamer.
- 4:39Speaker 1: He gets better.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Every time you think he's not gonna do it, it seems like he comes away with the play.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I mean you know they came in a little bit underhanded with with so many receivers out.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Kentron stepped up, you know Keon pretty much just ended that.
- 4:59Speaker 2: That other kid for Wake Forest, any chance he had to go in first round as a, you know, a defensive back like that's, that's done.
- 5:06Speaker 2: You know it was a dominant.
- 5:10Speaker 2: It was a dominant performance, it's it.
- 5:13Speaker 2: The score won't reflect just how dominant it was because they got some Really key penalties, key.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Well, jordan Travis ended with 22 of 35 359 yards, three touchdowns, 0 picks.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Finally had that 300 yard game that you wanted to see yeah, man so more importantly though I'm sorry to catch you off, man Just his, his pocket presents today.
- 5:44Speaker 2: You know, avoid in the rush, avoid in the sack, just buying time decision-making.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You know we were bitching about running the ball earlier, but you know, well, we're fans, yeah, we're gonna game, but trying to look at it.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Objectively as you go through it.
- 5:59Speaker 2: It's just one of you wanted to see as a fan.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you wanted to see them take your business and they got a big, despite Some questionable calls.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And if you didn't have the leadership that you do have on this team You've seen in games past where those calls Influenced the game this team was having none of that.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it just shows that they have great experience.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah it just shows that that they have great leadership on the field and on this team.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's, you know, when you have three times as many yardage, penalty yardage as your opponent.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You know, that's Trey Benson.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Four catches 100 yards and a touchdown.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I was in there.
- 6:42Speaker 1: To go with 10 carries and 55 yards.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I was complaining about him, Wouldn't he number one back?
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, number one back.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And then he takes it.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Well, no, you have a number one back.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Screen pass 80 yards for a touchdown.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And it's a weapon stepped up getting him the ball out of the backfield, especially when you were short handed on the receiving field.
- 6:58Speaker 1: You want to see that.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Hey, let's throw the ball to the running back.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And man, he's so versatile, trey Benson, and you cannot arm tackle him.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You saw Bill Moorlach both get involved in the passing game.
- 7:09Speaker 2: You know this isn't.
- 7:11Speaker 2: You know Wake Forest isn't going to win a lot of games this year, but that's because of their offense.
- 7:16Speaker 2: And you saw that they struggle in the passing game.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Defense did a really good job taking, you know, coverage sacks were there in the first half, but that's also because they got a problem at quarterback.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah, but you wanted to see Florida State take care of business, and I there was some questionable calls that the refs had that you had talked about, but we're not going to get into that.
- 7:39Speaker 2: No, I mean, it's what you expect when you play that game.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Could have been even worse.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It could have been worse.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah For Wake Forest.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I thought the defense played well Again.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Really unfortunate for Ken, you hear about the rush defense and, yes, if you're trying to find something, you got to find.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You got to look at something, you got to say something.
- 7:59Speaker 1: It's going to be the rush defense, but when they have to, this defense steps up.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I love the efficiency they have on red zone and they continue to be good in the red zone.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Well, well, and you know people look at it and it'll go down as a game where they gave up over a hundred yards rushing again not to a rush, just as a team, but you look at it and it's 2.6 yards of carry Right.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So like, yeah, Wake Forest got over a hundred yards running the ball, but they had to do it almost 50 times just to do that Like.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I'll take that every day.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't want to see a quarterback blow up for what?
- 8:33Speaker 2: And you think about it almost half of it was that one run in the first quarter and it was a good design.
- 8:40Speaker 2: The defense has been playing well.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Yeah, defense was playing well.
- 8:44Speaker 1: They had a defense coordinator your boy.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah, adam, fuller, man Adam.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Fuller mic'd up Right, as he looks confident.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Dude, I've talked a pant load of crap about Adam Fuller and the last six months.
- 8:59Speaker 1: He's done a great job, I think.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah, he really has.
- 9:01Speaker 2: It's been arguably what's carried Florida State up and to this point.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Now you know, I don't think Florida State's offense gets really enough credit from the fan base because of it's a team game and they work well together.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And I think he's got a great defense for this offense.
- 9:16Speaker 1: They seem to be in unison.
- 9:18Speaker 1: It was good to see a team go up the way for us a game, a place that has haunted good FSU teams in the past.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, man.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Go up there on a sleepy noon, where you haven't really done so on the first two noon games that you played on the road this year, but you went up there and you took care of business We've been up there man.
- 9:38Speaker 1: We said that, yeah, I know, I know We've been up there, we've seen it on his.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but take care of business, Take the crowd out of it, take the officials out of it.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You know and get up big and take care, and they did just that Great game.
- 9:53Speaker 1: If you're an old fan, I Don't.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I mean what else?
- 9:57Speaker 1: What else do you want to see?
- 9:59Speaker 2: I mean you, you know.
- 10:00Speaker 1: See, you get healthy.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you would have liked to see the second team for the entire second half.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But, man, I tell you what.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Man Roddemaker came in and in the first throw he was a he's got a laser man yeah, he does, he does.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I don't, I don't think I think people are sleeping on him.
- 10:15Speaker 2: As the the next in line, he's got a real big-time arm.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Coaches kid I'm.
- 10:20Speaker 2: You know it was good man, it it was good to see.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It's about as as good as I could have hoped for, you know.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I mean the score could have been a little more lopsided, but that's just nitpicking, you know.
- 10:32Speaker 2: There was no doubt.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I think.
- 10:33Speaker 2: You know ranking come out on Tuesday, I Think we could be anywhere from four to two, you know always want to see him get in.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Rosenback yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I talked to you that whole.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Thing.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but it's alright, man, you mean no, you keep talking.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Man, the Stannies are coming out.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Where do you see Florida State?
- 10:52Speaker 2: Anywhere from four to two, like for me, like I would I.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Three is is where I would put us right.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I, I, if you're gonna.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I don't want to be one.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I don't want to be one either.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I mean, if you're gonna, you're gonna knock Clemson, because they keep losing.
- 11:07Speaker 2: They're probably gonna lose again today.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Well, they're playing in C-state.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Florida's a bit up already on the road already.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Louisville is up on Duke already, organs up already.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You know it keeps, keeps going.
- 11:20Speaker 1: That's, it was a big game for Florida State.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Keon Coleman, another, another solid game.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I mean the first half, two touchdowns into the game.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Seven catches, 66 yards to touchdowns.
- 11:31Speaker 1: He not only is a big play threat, he can do it Short, he can do it on the screen passes all that acceleration right.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I think it's his versatility at the position that makes him such a valued Prospect.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I think he's gonna solidify himself as number two wide receiver in the draft.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Wow.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I don't think anybody's surpassing you know it's gonna Well we got a guy in the namesake of Harrison exactly, man.
- 11:58Speaker 2: It's a hall of famer.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Is your dad, you know but you when the receivers start going.
- 12:02Speaker 1: You've seen in the past.
- 12:03Speaker 1: They all what, yeah, yeah, and I would be surprised whenever the receivers taken if he's not right behind.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Well, there's a lot of guys that are ending the you know Twilight's of their career in the NFL, but you could see a couple of times good to see Poitier back out there.
- 12:18Speaker 1: He's a beast man.
- 12:18Speaker 1: He had a good one.
- 12:19Speaker 1: He had a good catch.
- 12:20Speaker 2: They call the holding.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they called a holding on that and I think what you know, I think what's upsetting is, like you see, the one.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, there's on the roughing an unnecessary roughness, but wasn't there unnecessary roughness when they hit Jordan Travis late?
- 12:37Speaker 1: Well yeah, so you didn't throw the flag there, so why where's?
- 12:40Speaker 1: It's like a that all at both ways and.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I guarantee you that's what coach Norvell was yelling about and that's the what's kind of exemplifies what I've been talking about with Wake Forest and Playing up there especially.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You know the second horse collar tackle, called on Byron Turner, was ridiculous because it came about, you know, 20 minutes on the clock after Jordan Travis had just given himself up, slid and got hit from behind a clear.
- 13:07Speaker 1: You know, two seconds after and nothing if you didn't throw it there, don't throw it on the other side that's my thing and I'm, and that's when I, that's when you saw, that's when the shot went to Norvell on the revel in the sideline.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and it's bull.
- 13:19Speaker 2: You could read his lips he just called both ways, man.
- 13:22Speaker 1: That's all you want.
- 13:23Speaker 2: The thing is is that the discrepancy has been specifically with Wake Forest for the last you know, four or five, maybe even eight years.
- 13:32Speaker 1: What were the?
- 13:32Speaker 1: What was the penalty yardage at the end of the game?
- 13:34Speaker 2: I think we had nine for a hundred and fifteen and five for forty four to Wake Forest, so it wasn't quite three times.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's correct.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, come on, man, I just stuff like that.
- 13:48Speaker 1: But let's focus in.
- 13:50Speaker 1: 508 yards total for Florida State.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah, three hundred eighty yards passing Jordan Travis again.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Well, you help eating rusher.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You had Wake Forest.
- 14:01Speaker 2: About five yards per pass, two yards per rush, no.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I'm sorry treatment but another touchdown on the ground.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 1: So four total touchdowns for Jordan Travis.
- 14:11Speaker 2: I mean, you know, he's just gonna like this will propel him in the race.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Well, it's like we talked about man.
- 14:16Speaker 2: If he keeps doing what he's been doing, week in, week out, you know, throw a game like this.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to come down to your two and state rivals.
- 14:24Speaker 2: You know you avoid the trap game up here in Pittsburgh next week.
- 14:28Speaker 2: It's going to come down to Canes Gators, just like it did for, you know, jamies, just like it did for Winky, just like it did for Charlie Yep.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It's just the way our season on the same year to yeah, it's the way our season at home to Miami on the road to Florida.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Now he doesn't necessarily have to win the Heisman Trophy, but he's going to have to keep playing like this.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I think state to go undefeated.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah, there, yeah, okay.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely Don't want to see the turnovers.
- 14:56Speaker 1: You know that you was great to see the response, but that was a bad.
- 15:02Speaker 2: It was, and you can get unlucky and then there was a fumble loss too, on the ground.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Right, they look sloppy.
- 15:08Speaker 2: That entire first drive for a touchdown and you can't have that.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But that's the snip Again.
- 15:14Speaker 1: It's almost like this team has to mess up a little bit or has to get punched in the face, because they're a bunch of fighters, they love to fight, they're very resilient.
- 15:23Speaker 1: It's a very resilient team.
- 15:24Speaker 2: And what it is is.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You know, you assume that if you're playing better competition, that you know the punch in the face.
- 15:32Speaker 2: You got to really make sure that it's not like a two touchdowns in the span of 30 seconds.
- 15:39Speaker 1: This is a legitimate.
- 15:40Speaker 1: This is legitimate defense.
- 15:42Speaker 1: That's safety way for us as yeah, oh yeah.
- 15:46Speaker 2: What's his name?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Mustafa?
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he's legit, he's legit so they've, they've, they've held Clemson in check.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I mean, this is the team that.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Can you know, if you're not on point, playing, playing with that edge, that Norville likes to talk about and I saw that edge today.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll go out on a limb, I'll say that predict that this will be a season high for Wake Forest defense across the board, just like it's going to be for Duke, although you know we'll see what happens today in Louisville.
- 16:16Speaker 2: They look like they may be on the ropes.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Speaking of which man, hey, um, what, what gets you excited on defense?
- 16:27Speaker 1: Is it the secondary?
- 16:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 1: It is, it is it is.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you what you know.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I don't even think he had his name called today.
- 16:37Speaker 2: But on that long run for Wake Forest, did you know?
- 16:40Speaker 2: In the first quarter Conrad Hussie saved that from being a touchdown.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, he ran him down.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I get that they they ended up scoring anyway.
- 16:47Speaker 2: But just that kind of athleticism out of a safety is Encourages look to be really stepped up in green and Cyprus or seem to be a good one-two combo.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Fiske bought his key came to play.
- 17:04Speaker 1: He plays on on very few big plays that they had he.
- 17:09Speaker 2: They should have given up seven points.
- 17:10Speaker 2: You know Still there, they held him under the average what they've been giving up.
- 17:15Speaker 2: You know around 17 and that's.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Do you just keep doing that and the office keeps working and you got a little bit of a stew going.
- 17:23Speaker 2: It's gonna come down to those two and state rivals.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's trap game next week though.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely Definitely We'll see what.
- 17:32Speaker 2: We'll see what pit does.
- 17:34Speaker 2: They're already down.
- 17:36Speaker 2: They may just fold up shop.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know what's going on with Narduzzi, but that whole season for pit has been just kind of disaster town.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah so we'll see well, you'll have.
- 17:49Speaker 1: It's gonna be the rest of the way.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you know one game season when you're up there in the top of the rankings which?
- 17:55Speaker 2: Miami coming in.
- 17:56Speaker 2: If, if, florida State takes care of business next weekend, you got Miami coming in.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You know what are the.
- 18:01Speaker 2: They'll be six, seven and two at that point, that's gonna be a huge game.
- 18:05Speaker 2: That's nighttime, man, that's prime time.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Well, here comes Virginia from Miami.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Want to keep an eye on that.
- 18:10Speaker 2: They got the flu, the flu.
- 18:12Speaker 1: We're gonna go watch Florida Georgia Florida already got a touchdown.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, I'm telling you I.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Know you did seven to three Florida's got that's gonna be, I think, a really great game.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I mean, florida wins this game.
- 18:29Speaker 1: They control their destiny in the East watch out for Kansas, man.
- 18:33Speaker 2: They're still.
- 18:34Speaker 2: They're still ahead of Oklahoma.
- 18:35Speaker 2: There's some stuff going on.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I think I think herb Street might have been off on his upset alert right.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 1: We can see why you picked it.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I mean foot.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Well, he's not like horses, he's not gonna pick the book guys, right yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 1: We had to play Wisconsin later tonight.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah, louisville is now up 13, nothing pinned.
- 18:54Speaker 2: An extra point on Duke.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I kind of could see it.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, they put a lot in the FSU game.
