Latest / The Immutable Word / EP047 Angelology Part 3: What the Bible Really Says About ‘Extraterrestrials’
Transcript
- 0:00The point here is that they're called spirits, but they have physical bodies
- 0:04because they obviously cohabitate with women in Genesis 6.
- 0:08And like I said, in Jude, they're described, and in Peter, they're described
- 0:11as leaving their first estate, their first home, their first dwelling,
- 0:16which means that maybe they were immortal, okay?
- 0:20But then they violate that natural estate that God gave them,
- 0:25that supernatural estate. they violated, cohabitated physically with women.
- 0:30Because of that violation, Psalms 82, the Bible says, ye shall die like men.
- 0:37And so they were obviously destroyed, probably in the flood.
- 0:42And the Bible talks about the angels which had sinned and left their first estate
- 0:46are now left reserved in chains of darkness.
- 0:51Welcome to The Immutable Word. We're back in the garage for another session.
- 0:55We are continuing our Angelology series, and this is our third or this is our fourth episode.
- 1:03We started back in episode 39, where we introduced Angelology,
- 1:09what the Bible really says about their nature and role.
- 1:11So if you're now just tuning in and you haven't heard some of the previous podcasts
- 1:16about the Angel, part of the Angel series that we've been talking about,
- 1:21I do encourage you to go back and maybe listen to those.
- 1:24Or you can listen to this one either way. We're going to be covering a little
- 1:27bit more advanced and more of a deeper dive.
- 1:29So we do have this set up in YouTube as a, what do you call those? Watch, not a watch list.
- 1:37It's a playlist. Playlist, yes. Thank you. Words hard.
- 1:41And so we're organizing everything there just to make it easier to pull all
- 1:46the Angelology podcasts together.
- 1:48So episode 39, then we covered it again in episode 41 and episode 42,
- 1:55where we actually start digging into what dwells beyond, which is a book that Jeffrey Martis wrote.
- 2:01So, we cover chapter 11 in our last episodes, or last two episodes,
- 2:0741 and 42, which covered the different classifications of life.
- 2:13And chapter 12, we'll be covering angels specifically, but it covers pretty
- 2:19much every life form outside of the earth.
- 2:24So, I'll probably start with maybe reading part of the first chapter,
- 2:28or just to summarize the first chapter, and then we can start rolling into there.
- 2:32It says that now we've established that outer space is the second heaven,
- 2:37which is chapter 9, which we haven't covered, and the diverse types of life
- 2:40forms created by God, which is chapter 11, which we did cover.
- 2:43We combine these two studies and begin our search of the scriptures to locate
- 2:46extraterrestrial life.
- 2:49Since the previous chapter covered all the categories of life in existence,
- 2:53it will obviously overlap some of the information presented here.
- 2:57This is not done to be unnecessarily redundant, but to focus on the life which
- 3:02actually does dwell beyond earth.
- 3:04So with that said, there does cover eight, seven or eight.
- 3:09We're just going to be focused on angels, and then under angels,
- 3:13we're going to go through scripture where it breaks down, I guess,
- 3:18the different descriptions of angels.
- 3:19So things like heavenly hosts, spirits, stars, men, and so forth.
- 3:25So, yeah, we'll start there.
- 3:26Yeah, and I just want to mention, you know, we're going through the book, obviously.
- 3:31We're reading through the book and not just to be, you know.
- 3:35Kind of blatant here, but, you know, we could have put together a good study.
- 3:40And I did. I actually started putting down an outline of angelology and a lot of the points.
- 3:46And as I was reading through Jeffrey Martis' book, I'm like,
- 3:49you know, he's actually got all the bones of it.
- 3:51He's got a lot of meat on the bones too. So, and the whole purpose of it that
- 3:56we're trying to eventually answer with the angel question is,
- 3:59how do we tie what the Bible says about, and in this chapter,
- 4:05he says extraterrestrial life,
- 4:06meaning life forms that dwell beyond our earth.
- 4:14We call it extraterrestrial life, right? And you and I were talking a little bit earlier.
- 4:19If you were to go to a ufologist or a person that's not, you know,
- 4:22let's just say they're not a Bible-believing Christian.
- 4:26Typically, when you say extraterrestrial life, you know, what comes to mind?
- 4:31Gray aliens, lizard people. Right. We're talking about monsters in outer space.
- 4:36We're talking about war of the worlds.
- 4:38That's what the world, their perspective of extraterrestrial life is.
- 4:42What I like about this chapter is that, and what I like really about Jeffrey,
- 4:46Jeff Martis' writing style, is his approach is he's writing as a Bible-believing,
- 4:52dispensational Christian.
- 4:54So, he wants to look at it with the mindset that the Bible is the final authority.
- 5:00So, what does the Bible describe as extraterrestrial life?
- 5:04And so, he does, he covers eight different types of life forms.
- 5:07This doesn't, you know, there's seven categories of all life that we covered in chapter 11.
- 5:13But in this particular chapter, and like he said, there's some overlap and some
- 5:19redundancy, but it's specifically focusing on what we say is extraterrestrial
- 5:25life from the Bible's perspective.
- 5:27So, and of course we covered angels.
- 5:29We did cover kind of an introduction into angels when we first opened this series.
- 5:34And because this is angelology, we want to, we're not going to focus on all the eight.
- 5:40I just want to focus on two of them, which is number one is angels.
- 5:43And then of course, number two, the devil himself. Cause I think.
- 5:47It's very important to cover him because he's a counterfeit in so many ways.
- 5:52And it's wise to kind of look at what the Bible says about him.
- 5:55And I think he'll give us insight.
- 5:56And then tie that together into eventually what we're leading up to with this
- 6:02series is where do we as Christians and believers stand today in this particular
- 6:08culture, in this particular age,
- 6:09when it comes to ufos all the legends
- 6:12around it all the like how does a bible believer approach the things that we
- 6:18see being you know perpetuated in social media and culture in the entertainment
- 6:23industry in hollywood how do we interpret that so that's why i think this book
- 6:28is such a great you know foundation for us yeah.
- 6:32And just as a reminder, episode 35, we did cover UFOs and, you know,
- 6:38a Christian's take on it.
- 6:39So we do touch on that a little bit when it comes to that culture.
- 6:45Yeah, we'll tie it together a little bit more because one of the things that
- 6:49Martis does really well is he ties in a lot of that,
- 6:53you know, the lost world's mentality, you know, but the root cause of it, I think, is important.
- 7:00But we'll get there, you know, but so, so we're going to be a little bit redundant today.
- 7:05We're going to cover specifically what the Bible says about angels and he's
- 7:10got a pretty good outline.
- 7:11Some of it we have covered, but it's worth going over again.
- 7:15I think just to reinforce what the Bible says about it.
- 7:18The thing that he brings up first is that the heavenly host,
- 7:23there's this host of heaven that's described in the Bible in several places, right?
- 7:28There's hosts, and there's two different types of hosts.
- 7:31One are inorganic dead matter, like the sun, the moon, the stars.
- 7:36These are actually planetary objects. So, Deuteronomy 4.19, for example,
- 7:40the Bible says, and this is a warning that God's giving to Israel.
- 7:44He says, Unless thou lift up thine eyes into heaven, and when thou seest the
- 7:47sun, the moon, and the stars, even all the hosts of heaven.
- 7:51So he describes the sun, the moon, and the stars, even all the hosts of heaven,
- 7:56shouldest be driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath
- 7:59divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
- 8:03They're driven to worship these planetary objects. Then in 2 Kings 23, 5, he says,
- 8:10and he put down the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained
- 8:14to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and the places round
- 8:18about Jerusalem and them also that burned incense unto Baal,
- 8:21to the sun and to the moon and to the planets and to all the hosts of heaven.
- 8:28So the Bible is very clear when he describes host of heaven in these two passages.
- 8:32The host of heaven often refer to planetary types of celestial bodies,
- 8:38sun, moon, stars, planets, right?
- 8:39But this isn't always the case in scripture.
- 8:42There's actually in 2 Chronicles 18, 18 and 1 Kings 22, 19, he says this,
- 8:48and he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord.
- 8:51I saw the Lord sitting on his throne and all the hosts of heaven standing by
- 8:59him on his right hand. So obviously the sun, the moon, the stars aren't standing
- 9:04around the throne of God.
- 9:06These sons of God that we're going to explore, these are angels.
- 9:10Some of these hosts of heaven, most of these hosts of heaven that are described
- 9:14in the passage we just read are angels.
- 9:16So, but here you have life in the third heaven.
- 9:20And if there are beings that exist that are more advanced and more intelligent
- 9:24than man, then obviously the Bible is going to tell us who they are.
- 9:28So, again, what follows is we're going to go through kind of a summary of that
- 9:33life, but specifically we're going to look at two of them. He lists eight in here.
- 9:37So, things like cherubim, seraphim, celestial horses, you know, the 24 elders.
- 9:43Those are very interesting topics, and we could spend an entire podcast on just each one of them.
- 9:50So, but to stay consistent with the theme, angelology, we're going to focus
- 9:56on angels. And this is what Jeffrey Martis, this chapter 12 is really his root
- 10:01chapter for the entire book.
- 10:02This is what actually dwells beyond according to the Bible.
- 10:07And again, as Bible believers look, I already know there's probably people,
- 10:11there's some people that are probably eating this up. They love it.
- 10:14I know I'm one of those kind of guys, man.
- 10:15I can study this stuff all day long.
- 10:18I would rather study this than, you know, how to strengthen my marriage.
- 10:21And I'm embarrassed to say that, you know what I mean? Because,
- 10:25I mean, obviously, I need to, you know, no amount of learning about angels is
- 10:28going to fix my marriage.
- 10:29But the point is, is that these are things that are very interesting and it's in the Bible.
- 10:34So if it's in the Bible, it's worth discussing, right? I mean,
- 10:38it's all over the Bible. So. Angels is mentioned. A lot.
- 10:42Yeah. There is a lot of information. A lot of information on angels in general.
- 10:47I mean, just the number of references throughout the entire Bible.
- 10:51I mean, it's got something to say about it. It must be important.
- 10:53Yeah. Like you said, there's 297 references to angels, period.
- 10:59297 times he mentions angels. So, most of these angels are angels of God in
- 11:06heaven. But there's an undisclosed number that are servants of the devil are associated with him.
- 11:12So the angels of Satan, they're usually called fallen angels or reference to fallen angels.
- 11:18And even though the Bible never uses that term, we coin that term.
- 11:22We kind of associate when we say fallen angels.
- 11:25Because these are obviously angels that are no longer part of the heavenly host.
- 11:29They're not part of the worship of God.
- 11:31They are now serving the devil to some aspect or some detail.
- 11:35Okay. So, in this study, what we're going to do is look at what they're called,
- 11:41and then maybe some additional information on some of these titles we look at.
- 11:45There's also some sub-details that we'll kind of cover.
- 11:49So, number one, the most obvious name of these angels are called the Heavenly Host.
- 11:54We see that in Luke chapter 2 with the birth of Christ.
- 11:59We see that Psalms 148.2, Nehemiah 9.6, they're called the Heavenly Host.
- 12:04And so it doesn't refer to all the host of heaven, as we mentioned earlier,
- 12:08but in more specific context, it refers to the angels, both good and evil.
- 12:14And Satan and his angels, they have access to the third heaven,
- 12:19but they lose it in the future.
- 12:21This is another, I think this is a misnomer that some believers have is that when Satan fell,
- 12:31you know, when he rebelled against God, he was permanently kicked out of heaven.
- 12:35That doesn't happen until Revelation 12.
- 12:37So, when you read Revelation 12, that's during the tribulation.
- 12:40It's not until the tribulation where that access is completely driven off.
- 12:45So, when you read Job chapter 1 and Job chapter 2, who walks right into the throne room of God?
- 12:51The devil. And he presents himself. And he even asks him.
- 12:55You know, God asked him. He said, hey, where have you been? Oh,
- 12:58roaming to and from and in and out of the earth.
- 13:00Why is that view popular then that people think that?
- 13:04Dante's Inferno. You know, they'll think of, oh, he was cast down from heaven
- 13:09and now he's quote unquote ruling in hell. The Bible never gives us that.
- 13:14The Bible never gives us that conclusion. It doesn't refer to him ruling in hell.
- 13:19He's not over hell. He's not the king of hell.
- 13:23So that's something that people need to understand, that the devil is actively
- 13:26involved in this stratosphere, in this hemisphere, in the second heaven, in the first heaven.
- 13:32The first heaven, you know, simple description is, the first heaven is where
- 13:35the birds fly. That's what's described in the Bible.
- 13:37Second heaven is where your sun, the moon, and the stars are.
- 13:40The Bible describes him in Ephesians chapter 6 as spiritual wickedness in high places.
- 13:46Now, high places, when you run that term through the Bible, is always connected
- 13:50to some kind of idolatrous worship, especially in the Old Testament.
- 13:55High places, but spiritual wickedness of the air.
- 13:58He's also called the prince of the power of the air. So there's an association
- 14:02with the air when it comes down to Satan, it's in the second heaven.
- 14:08That's where he operates.
- 14:10So he's not on a throne sitting in hell with a big giant spear and a pitchfork.
- 14:18That's all mythology, right? That's Hollywood stuff.
- 14:22So people learn your Bible. Anyway, so obviously the access to the third heaven
- 14:27is going to be cut off in the future.
- 14:30So until that time, the devil and the angels are also known as the heavenly
- 14:35host because of where they operate in that second heaven.
- 14:38So heavenly host, that's one of the names of angels.
- 14:42The second term that describes them is spirits.
- 14:46Now, remember we talked about people, they get confused with angels being just
- 14:51messengers, but they're also called spirits.
- 14:53So this title, you see it in Hebrews 1.7 and Psalms 104.4, and it reveals that
- 14:59angels are spirit beings.
- 15:01Now, don't misread that. Don't misunderstand that. This isn't to imply that
- 15:06angels are spirits only, but they are spirit beings.
- 15:12They're just like their creator. They have, you know, their tripartite in the
- 15:16fact that, you know, they're having a spirit, a soul, a physical body.
- 15:21Their physical body is immortal. It's not a natural body like a fallen man,
- 15:26but it's a supernatural body, right?
- 15:29Spiritually, we see that 1 Corinthians 15, 44 talks about heavenly bodies, basically.
- 15:35And then with the powers of flight, invisibility, super strength at all.
- 15:38Now, I know we did mention that the only thing that can be redeemed is something that has a soul.
- 15:44You know, so I know that Martis says that they have a soul. I don't know.
- 15:49I'd have to, we'd have to study that out further. Angels?
- 15:52Yeah. But they do have a physical body. We know that for sure.
- 15:56Because the Bible describes in Jude that they leave their first estate.
- 16:01You're saying that they don't have a soul? I don't know.
- 16:03Okay. What I'm saying is, I don't, I can't recall a place in scripture that
- 16:08describes them as having a soul.
- 16:10Yeah, the only thing that describes anybody having soul is man. Right.
- 16:15The soul of man. Which one can conclude that they're the only ones that can
- 16:19be redeemable. Yeah. I mean, we see that angels have desires.
- 16:23Obviously, they can think and reason.
- 16:27Very similar. So, it's possible they have a soul because they have a lot of
- 16:32the same functions that a human does, but they're on a supernatural level.
- 16:36So, I don't know. I can't say conclusively. Let's just put it that way.
- 16:40I, you know, it's, you know, it's plausible, but is it a dogmatic fact?
- 16:46I don't know. And I'm not going to say it's a dogmatic fact.
- 16:49I would encourage anybody like, Hey, if you're studying it, when you're reading
- 16:52through your Bible, if you see some kind of indication that this,
- 16:55you know, says they have a soul, then, you know, mark it down, let us know.
- 16:59Yeah. I'd be really interested to hear about that. So, but the point here is
- 17:03that they're, they're called spirits, but they have physical bodies because
- 17:07they obviously cohabitate with women in Genesis 6.
- 17:11And like I said, in Jude, they're described, and in Peter, they're described
- 17:14as leaving their first estate, their first home, their first dwelling, right?
- 17:20So, which means that maybe they were immortal, right?
- 17:24But then they violate that natural estate that God gave them,
- 17:30that supernatural estate.
- 17:31They violate it, cohabitated physically with women.
- 17:35Because of that violation, Psalms 82, the Bible says, ye shall die like men.
- 17:43And so they were obviously destroyed, probably in the flood.
- 17:46And the Bible talks about the angels which had sinned and left their first estate
- 17:51are now left reserved in chains of darkness, okay?
- 17:56So, there's a lot of theories around that. There's another book that Joseph
- 18:01Dumas wrote, and he talks about the giants and stuff under the earth.
- 18:05It's a really good book too. He's another Bible believer.
- 18:07But he has an interesting kind of take on it, and he kind of posits that it
- 18:15was possibly four specific angels that were part of the Genesis six sin.
- 18:22The reason why he says that is because when you go through scripture and you
- 18:27look at the sons of the giant and when the giants are named,
- 18:31there's like four specific names. I think it's four or five.
- 18:34I can't remember what it is, but there's specific names given to the father
- 18:39or progenitor of these giants.
- 18:42So he thinks those might
- 18:45be the four angels that are chained in darkness and are released during the
- 18:50tribulation in the river euphrates interesting there's there's a tie in there
- 18:55but i don't want to deviate from my lesson so i'm just telling you that another
- 19:00there's a lot of things in scripture i was just talking to a brother tonight.
- 19:04That a lot of times when we look at these things, there's things that aren't
- 19:08going to be fully understood to us.
- 19:10All we can do is go through like an investigative process. We can look and see
- 19:16what the scriptures do say.
- 19:17And if we accept it for what it says, we can draw conclusions based off of that. Okay.
- 19:24These conclusions are probabilistic. They're not certainty.
- 19:29They're probabilistic, meaning that these are probably true, okay?
- 19:34Because of, and you know how you strengthen those types of inductive arguments? More evidence.
- 19:39That's it. The more evidence you build on top of your premises,
- 19:43your conclusion is stronger.
- 19:45So, this is what I would say to Bible believers.
- 19:48When you study your scripture, write down, like, these are things that,
- 19:52man, you may not get through a single reading in your Bible. There's no way.
- 19:56It may take dozens of times of going through your Bible.
- 19:59Maybe you have a notebook and you call it my angel notebook, right?
- 20:03And every time you're reading your Bible and something stands out that has to
- 20:08do with angels, jot it down.
- 20:10What is this passage telling me? What's the context of this passage? What's the background?
- 20:15And I'm just telling you, this is just to help people in their Bible study.
- 20:19As you build on that type of foundation, it's going to be a very scriptural
- 20:24foundation, and all of your conclusions are going to be based off of scriptural
- 20:29evidence that you've recorded as you read your Bible.
- 20:33You know what I mean? Because if you go to a commentary and I'm not saying don't,
- 20:37you know, ignore commentaries, you're going to have a lot of commentaries out
- 20:41there that are not Bible believing commentaries.
- 20:44They do not presuppose the scripture to be absolutely 100% errant in their hand.
- 20:50Because in their mind, it might be like only the originals were inspired, for example.
- 20:54Well, the problem is, is you're going to draw a humanistic conclusion and it could lead you astray.
- 20:59So that's why I say the best study is the reading and the study of the Bible
- 21:04itself. And scripture was scripture. Yeah.
- 21:06One brother said this, and I was talking to another missionary today about this,
- 21:11and I think it's worded perfectly. He said this.
- 21:14He said that, you know how people argue about interpretation?
- 21:18Yeah. And they go, well, how do you know your interpretation is right?
- 21:21He said this, this is the way he succinctly said it. And I thought it was excellent.
- 21:25He says, the right interpretation is the one that allows God's word to interpret
- 21:31itself and be based solely upon scriptural evidence.
- 21:37Think about that. The right interpretation is the one that allows the Bible
- 21:42to interpret itself and solely relies on scriptural evidence. That's a great answer.
- 21:50Yeah, I mean, what it's covering, basically saying you're not putting your own
- 21:54opinion into Scripture to come to a different conclusion.
- 21:58It says what it says. Yeah, and so essentially he's saying that if you read
- 22:05a passage and I read a passage and I say, well, I think this is what it means,
- 22:10and you say you think that's what it means,
- 22:12the right interpretation is the one that Scripture interprets.
- 22:17The one that says, okay, so if I define, for example, sons of God,
- 22:20and I go, oh, sons of God, and we're going to talk about it in just a minute.
- 22:23Oh, sons of God just means angels.
- 22:27That violates scripture interpreting scripture. Because sons of God are not just angels.
- 22:32They refer to other. We're called sons of God in John chapter 1. You see what I mean?
- 22:37So, the right interpretation is the one that allows God's word to interpret itself.
- 22:43The preponderance of scripture. Yeah. So, if your interpretation does not allow
- 22:51the Bible to interpret itself, it's the wrong interpretation.
- 22:54That's the point. So, if I say, you know, God's not a trinity,
- 22:59okay? That's your interpretation.
- 23:01But does that allow the Bible to interpret itself? Or am I forcing my definition
- 23:07on that term? You see what I'm saying?
- 23:09So, that's why I love the way that's stated. Because everybody will say,
- 23:12well, how do I know what's the right interpretation? Is it the Baptists?
- 23:15Is it the Presbyterians?
- 23:17Is it the Reform guys? Is it the Calvinists? It's real simple.
- 23:20Whichever interpretation allows God's words to interpret itself is the right
- 23:26one. Well, why is that true?
- 23:28Because that's the biblical hermeneutic.
- 23:31That's 1 Corinthians 2, verse 13, right?
- 23:35Comparing spiritual with spiritual. That's rightly dividing the word of truth.
- 23:39That's a biblical hermeneutic.
- 23:41That's God's own prescribed method of studying the Bible.
- 23:45It's not a man-invented hermeneutic. So that's why I love that term.
- 23:51I would say, listen, you ought to write that in your Bible.
- 23:55The correct interpretation, how do I know which interpretation is correct?
- 23:59Whichever interpretation allows the Bible to interpret itself.
- 24:05And all the script, all the evidence is scriptural are scriptural passages, basically.
- 24:12So whenever I look at any evidence, it's going to be based off of what does scripture say?
- 24:16I was thinking about that today in my reading, remember they came to Jesus and
- 24:20they were asking about, oh, divorce.
- 24:23Say, can a man divorce, you know, a woman for any reason?
- 24:27Basically I'm paraphrasing it. And you know what Jesus said?
- 24:31He goes, what does Moses say?
- 24:33I thought it was brilliant. Jesus said, okay, I'll play along with you. What does the Bible say?
- 24:39That's essentially what he's saying. What does scripture say?
- 24:42And that's amazing because that's the same thing that Abraham said to the rich man in hell.
- 24:48Rich man in hell says, man, if somebody just came from the dead and warned my
- 24:52brothers, they wouldn't come here.
- 24:54He goes, they have Moses in the law. They have scripture.
- 24:57That is all sufficient for what any person on earth needs is the word of God.
- 25:03It's amazing testimony. Anyway, so how did we get there from spirits? I don't know.
- 25:09Let's get back on track. So that's number two. So number one is they're called
- 25:12the heavenly host. Number two, they're called spirits. Number three, they're called stars.
- 25:16I think it's really interesting because this one I hear different Bible believers,
- 25:21you know, misinterpret and misdefine.
- 25:25But if you look at Revelation 1.20, which are the stars that are in the hands
- 25:28of Jesus Christ, seven stars, and he says they're the stars of those churches.
- 25:34Revelation 6.13, Revelation 9.1, Revelation 12.4, Daniel 8.10-11.
- 25:42Stars can refer to an actual planet, right? Or whatever, a planetary system.
- 25:48But they can also refer to an angel.
- 25:52So, here's a trick question. How do you know? How would you know if it's referring
- 25:57to a planet or it's referring to an angel?
- 26:01It's the big C word.
- 26:03Context. Yeah, I was going to say scripture. Yeah, but context.
- 26:08I always laugh when I talk to people about that. They're like,
- 26:11Brother Gammus, how do I know what this is talking about? Context. Just read it.
- 26:16Context will define, we have to do this one day, but I was doing an answer Q&A
- 26:22session with somebody and they were saying like, hey, why can't I go to a lexicon?
- 26:26Why can't I read the definition of a Greek word to get the meaning of it to
- 26:32help me understand the passage.
- 26:33And I always tell them, I said, because the danger of going to a single Greek
- 26:37word or going to the Greek or the Hebrew to define words is that you're ripping
- 26:42it out of context. And you may accept a definition that violates the context.
- 26:47The first rule is what is the context? The context will define the word.
- 26:53So, how do we know it's an angel or a planet? The context.
- 26:58Is this what you're alluding to where people don't understand or misinterpret
- 27:02or misread what stars are in the Bible. Right.
- 27:04They assume that it's a, and the biggest one is, you know, like for example,
- 27:09it talks about a star, the star of Jacob, or it talks about the star that followed
- 27:15Christ and Joseph, or followed the shepherds and led them to Jesus Christ.
- 27:19So people assume, oh, that was a star, that was an actual planet.
- 27:23Matter of fact, I've heard Bible believers, I say Bible believers,
- 27:27I say that tongue in cheek, but like creationists, young earth creationist and
- 27:31they will have entire books on the astrological fact that you know in astronomy
- 27:37there was an actual star that appeared and they'll try to map out when that
- 27:41star existed in the universe and so forth and so on and
- 27:45But they're trying to make it a planet and ignore the fact that it was an actual
- 27:49angel that was guiding them. That seems like a real stretch.
- 27:54Well, in their case, it is. I mean, obviously it is.
- 27:57But Job 38.7, the Bible says the stars sang together at the creation.
- 28:04So if they're seeing in the creation, that's before the stars of heaven.
- 28:08So the actual planetary object, right? It says when the foundation of the earth was laid.
- 28:13So from this, we can know the angels were here before the earth was created.
- 28:17Celestial stars and angels have several things in common. So number one,
- 28:22they're both innumerable.
- 28:23Bible describes that. It talks about like in Hebrews 12, 22,
- 28:27and he says the innumerable company of angels. That means you can't number them.
- 28:32So that means we don't know how many angels there are.
- 28:35B, or number two, both can radiate light. So Genesis 1.14-17,
- 28:40Psalms 1.48-3, Luke 2.9, Acts 12.7, Acts 10.30.
- 28:47Then number three, both have names. So Psalm 1.47-4, Jude 1.9,
- 28:53Luke 1.19, Revelation 9.11.
- 28:56So there's names that you read about, like in the book of Job,
- 29:01for example, it describes celestial bodies.
- 29:04I can't remember the name of them right off the top of my head. but there's
- 29:08also he names every star bible describes
- 29:11that and of course we know that angels some angels have
- 29:14names like gabriel michael and so forth and so on
- 29:17both oh by the way let me say this just as a kind of a side note if you get
- 29:24into these extra canonical works like the book of enoch the apocrypha the pseudo
- 29:31epigrapha books you are going to see here like like the catholics You know,
- 29:36they'll have all kinds of different names like Raphael and stuff like that.
- 29:40Those are not written names in the scripture.
- 29:44Those are outside of the word of God.
- 29:47People try to argue that the book of Enoch is scripture, but guess what?
- 29:51You know how you know it's not scripture?
- 29:52It's not in the 66 books of the canon that God put together.
- 29:56Anyway, so here's the thing.
- 30:00So they have names, the names that we know of. The only two angels that we know
- 30:05of that have names is Gabriel and Michael. That's it.
- 30:09We hear one called the Prince of Persia in the book of Daniel,
- 30:13but we don't know his name.
- 30:15Because Michael in that same chapter is described as the prince of thy people of Israel.
- 30:22So he's actually the prince that represents Israel.
- 30:25Just like the prince of Persia. Right. Exactly.
- 30:28So both have names, both occupy the heavens, both second or third heaven.
- 30:34So when the heathen and Israel were driven to worship the host of heaven,
- 30:37they often use the symbol of a star to represent their false god.
- 30:41You see that in Amos 5.26 and Acts 7.43, it talks about a star to their God.
- 30:48And also in his book, in Martis' book, he covers this in chapter 16.
- 30:53But likewise, when the first stars come to earth, both they and their offspring become famous.
- 31:01The scriptures say mighty men, men of renown, John Genesis 6.4.
- 31:04Because of this precedence, modern vernacular many times labels famous or high-profile
- 31:11individuals with the same title. What do they call them? Stars.
- 31:14Movie stars. Or Hollywood stars.
- 31:17Interesting enough. That is really interesting. And so then,
- 31:20of course, we know that they're called heavenly hosts, they're called spirits,
- 31:24they're called stars, and they're also called men.
- 31:28This is, again, where more confusion around these angels come up.
- 31:33Because they're described as men. That means innocuous.
- 31:38Once again, they don't have any wings. Yeah, they're not obvious.
- 31:42You don't see this bright shining halo or wings on them. You don't see that, right?
- 31:47So a careful study of scripture is going to reveal that angels look exactly like human men.
- 31:52They're often misidentified as being such. As a matter of fact,
- 31:56it's common practice that you find in scriptures where you see the use of the
- 32:01word men or man as a substitute for angel.
- 32:05So, for example, the angels who appeared to Lot both appeared to be men,
- 32:10Genesis 19, 1 through 16.
- 32:11They're just described as men. Nothing special about them.
- 32:15The angel which appeared to Manoah and his wife, which was Samson's parents,
- 32:20appeared as a man in Judges 3, 13, verses 2 through 21.
- 32:24And then the angel who appeared to Balaam appeared as a man,
- 32:28Numbers chapter 22, verses 22 through 35.
- 32:31And then the angel who appeared to Hagar looked like a man, Genesis 16, 7 through 8.
- 32:36And the angel who appeared to Gideon looked like a man, Judges 6,
- 32:4011 through 21. and the angel who appeared to Cornelius appeared to be a man in Acts 10, verses 2-4.
- 32:47The angel that was sent to destroy Israel looked like a man, 1 Chronicles 21-16.
- 32:53The angels which rolled back the stone at the sepulcher of Christ both appeared
- 32:57to be men, Matthew 28, 2-6, Mark 16, 2-7, Luke 24, 2-4, and verse 23 of Luke 24.
- 33:08The angel Gabriel appears as a man, Luke 1, verses 11-38.
- 33:13The angel who loosed Peter from prison appeared as a man, Acts 12, verses 6-10.
- 33:18Michael the archangel appears as a man in Jude 1, 9 and Revelation 12, 7.
- 33:23The angel that binds the devil and casts him into the bottomless pit is described
- 33:28and pictured as a man, Revelation 20, verses 1-3.
- 33:32So, the appearance of angels and men match so closely, the Bible even warns
- 33:39us that we may even encounter angels without even realizing it.
- 33:43In Hebrews 13, 2, it says, Be not forgetful to entertain strangers,
- 33:47for thereby have some entertained angels unaware.
- 33:51How do you entertain an angel and not be aware of it if they have big old giant wings?
- 33:58It might be an obvious giveaway. Right. But it makes you think that it's not relegated to time.
- 34:06So, we could still be entertaining angels and awareness today.
- 34:09And we kind of covered that when we started first talking about angels.
- 34:12And it gets really fascinating because there's some interesting stories around that.
- 34:17Yeah, there's obviously, I mean, is it possible that we can be entertaining?
- 34:22Yeah, because the Bible says it here in Hebrews 13.
- 34:25Here's what I would caution people is don't assume every time something happens,
- 34:30they're going to attribute it to an angel.
- 34:32I've heard that way too many times. And this is where you've got to really temper
- 34:37your experiences with the Word of God.
- 34:41So, for example, if you were to come across, let's just say,
- 34:45and this has happened to me as far as in testimony.
- 34:49I'm talking to other people, asking them to give me a testimony of their salvation.
- 34:53I was like, oh, an angel saved me from a burning building. Or an angel saved
- 34:58me from drowning. An angel did this or that.
- 35:00And then you get to talking to some of these individuals, especially when we're
- 35:04talking about ufology and aliens, and you start to ask them,
- 35:08these supposed angels, start to ask them theological questions.
- 35:12Is there a God? No, there's no God.
- 35:15Is Jesus Christ the way to heaven? No, there are many ways to heaven.
- 35:17You are one way to heaven.
- 35:19You are just an advanced life. I mean, there's obviously, we've read enough
- 35:23of this alien folklore to see that they deviate from what the scripture says.
- 35:31So, the Bible says in Isaiah chapter 8, verse 20, if they speak not according
- 35:35to this word, it's because there's no light in them.
- 35:37So, that's the way you measure it. If you think you're talking to a heavenly
- 35:42angel and that heavenly angel starts giving you information that's contrary
- 35:46to scripture, you better get away from them as fast as possible.
- 35:49As the Bible say about an angel preaching a different gospel.
- 35:53Right. And when we get to the devil, when we do the study on the devil on the
- 35:57next podcast, we'll go into that.
- 35:59Yeah. Because he's a counterfeit. And the Bible says his ministers are angels of light.
- 36:05So, anyway, we'll cover a lot of that when we get there.
- 36:08On the other side of it, it's just worth mentioning that there's been occasions
- 36:13where, you know, they weren't being told anything.
- 36:17You know, there's stories about missionaries getting through really difficult,
- 36:21life-threatening circumstances, and you had men that were just there protecting them.
- 36:26Right. And so, there are instances of that in the present day.
- 36:29Well, we just had one brother to Papua New Guinea, and he was telling the story
- 36:34how, you know, there was one building,
- 36:37there was their compound, they had several buildings on the compound,
- 36:41it's medical missionaries, and they had a lot of medical set up,
- 36:44and there was some people, I think that they had helped or they had associated
- 36:48with from another nearby village that had wore masks,
- 36:52and they were threatening this compound, and they attacked the compound.
- 36:56The women were protected they kept the women they pulled the women into one of the buildings.
- 37:03And for some miraculous reason they said that those
- 37:06guys those Papua New Guineans that were attacking them never touched
- 37:10that building where all the women were at and eventually years later one of
- 37:14the guys that was part of that attempt to rob the buildings and attack the people
- 37:20at the compound ended up getting saved and he told the story they asked him
- 37:25they go why didn't you attack that building.
- 37:26He said he was surrounded by very large white people, people all dressed in
- 37:31white, and they were protected.
- 37:33So, we thought that you had hired bodyguards to protect that.
- 37:37And so, anyway, that's just an example of, obviously, the Lord was using that
- 37:42in some form, and they weren't telling a message, they weren't contradicting
- 37:46the Bible, right? They were just there.
- 37:48But this Hebrews 13, too, kind of gives us evidence that that could be very
- 37:54possible, That those angels were indeed, you know, protecting those women.
- 37:58So, we've heard stories, a lot of those stories like that. So...
- 38:03Mardis writes, he goes, an angel that visits earth, whether good or evil,
- 38:07would simply appear as a human man with supernatural human powers.
- 38:11So, super strength, power of flight, the power to control certain elements like
- 38:15water, fire, wind, invisibility, telekinesis.
- 38:19Those are powers because they, like, for example, Joseph was sleeping and an
- 38:25angel was talking to him in his dream.
- 38:27See what I'm saying? That's telekinesis.
- 38:30And then the member of the Bible talked about the pool, I think it was Bethesda.
- 38:34Is that the pool? Where the Bible says an angel would stir the water,
- 38:38and then somebody would step in there and they'd be healed during that time.
- 38:42So, obviously, they have this ability to interact with the elements here on
- 38:49Earth. It's interesting.
- 38:50I think you might be thinking about telepathy for the mind reading.
- 38:55Yeah, telekinesis is moving things through your mind, right?
- 38:57Yeah, which is equally interesting.
- 39:00And then all of these, you can read minds.
- 39:03Anyway, all of these, you know, angelic abilities and more are found in the
- 39:08scriptures. So the Bible has no female angels.
- 39:11That's why they're called men. No angel is ever depicted as having white feathery wings.
- 39:17Wings are useless when flying through outer space anyway.
- 39:22I mean, people realize that.
- 39:24Surprisingly winged female creatures are identified
- 39:28with wickedness specifically that phrase with wicked with wickedness they're
- 39:34not the angels of god and you see that in zachariah chapter 5 verses 7 through
- 39:379 if an angel had wings it would be impossible to mistake it for a human being
- 39:43you wouldn't entertain them unaware.
- 39:47So, they're hosts, they're, so we know they're hosts, they're spirits,
- 39:51they're stars, and they're men. They're described as men in the Bible.
- 39:55Then, number five, they are called the sons of God. So, we talked about that a little bit earlier.
- 40:01But in Job 1.6, Job 2.1, Job 38.7, Genesis 6.2-4.
- 40:07So, the final alternate name for angels and the most controversial is that of sons of God.
- 40:14So whether it's controversial or not, however, the Word of God reveals that
- 40:19born-again Christians is not the only Son of God found in the Bible.
- 40:24So specifically, you have three different types of sons of God that are described in Scripture.
- 40:30The first one is, the obvious one, is Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of
- 40:35God, right? He's given that title when he's born of a woman.
- 40:39All angels are known as sons of God, but none were born of a woman. Okay.
- 40:45Psalm 2.7, I would declare the decree the Lord hath said unto me,
- 40:49thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
- 40:52Hebrews 1.5, for unto which of the angels said he at any time,
- 40:56thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
- 40:59And again, I'll be to him a father, he shall be to me a son.
- 41:031 John 4.9, and this was manifested the love of God toward us because that God
- 41:09sent his only begotten son into the world that we might have life through him.
- 41:12And then also, you know, John 1.4, John 1.14, John 1.18, John 3.16-18,
- 41:20Acts 13-33, and so forth and so on.
- 41:23So, Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Now, this is maybe important to note for
- 41:30our Bible students out there, is that John 1.1, the Bible says,
- 41:34in the beginning was the Word.
- 41:36Now, that's important because Jesus wasn't called the Son of God before the beginning.
- 41:42He was called the Word. That was the original existential form of Jesus Christ
- 41:49before his human birth. He is called the Word.
- 41:53So, that's why you see in Old Testament the Word of God walking in the cool of the garden.
- 42:01The Word of God was not yet revealed to Samuel and so forth and so on.
- 42:05So you see that term, word, describing Jesus Christ.
- 42:10Now, not the topic of tonight's podcast, but if you look in 1 Corinthians 15,
- 42:17the Bible says at the end,
- 42:19when all the enemies of the Lord are basically offered to God, his father,
- 42:27the Bible says that Jesus Christ essentially, I'm paraphrasing this,
- 42:32but will go back into his original form.
- 42:35That's the word. Yeah. Well, and I'll read the passage just so people don't think I'm lying.
- 42:41But 1 Corinthians chapter 15.
- 42:44So 1 Corinthians 15, everybody knows that that's the chapter that Paul is giving
- 42:49evidence and proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, right?
- 42:52He's given evidential claims. He's giving eyewitness testimony.
- 42:56And of course, he's giving a reductio saying, if Christ be not risen.
- 43:00But in that, here's what's interesting. In verse 25, well, let me start in 24.
- 43:07It says, Then come at the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to
- 43:12God, even the Father, when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
- 43:17So this is after Christ has reigned.
- 43:20This is after all of his enemies have been dealt with. This is after all the
- 43:25kingdoms of the world have been given to him. Okay?
- 43:29Verse 25, For he must reign till he hath put all enemies under his foot.
- 43:36So that means that his reign is temporary. It's not eternal.
- 43:39It's important to understand that. Watch.
- 43:42Verse 26, And the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
- 43:47For he that hath put all things under his feet, for he hath put all things under
- 43:51his feet, but when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is accepted,
- 43:58which he did put all things under him. Because he's basically,
- 44:01he's the only exception.
- 44:02That all things were under him. He's over everything else. Then,
- 44:07verse 28, now watch, here's the key verse.
- 44:10And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then, watch, shall the Son also himself be what?
- 44:18Subject unto him that put all things under him that God may be all in all.
- 44:28So, what he's basically saying is, when all things are put under his feet and
- 44:33all things have been subdued by him, Then also the Son himself shall be subject
- 44:40unto him, God the Father.
- 44:42And then he becomes all in all. He returns back to the original state before
- 44:48the creation of the universe, which is the Word.
- 44:52Which means, and there's a book on this, again, this is one of these,
- 44:56I'm putting this out here, you know, not as dogmatic, but I'm going to say this,
- 45:01that there's evidence that when everything is done, because it talks about,
- 45:07the Bible talks about that, that the Canaanite and so forth,
- 45:11or that the blessings to Israel and his promised people are going to be under 10,000 generations.
- 45:17Well that's beyond the thousand year millennial reign so
- 45:21some have posited that maybe there's a time a
- 45:23period after the millennium where he
- 45:26continues to rule and reign after that he returns back to being the word and
- 45:33he's no longer the son the son is then absorbed back into the trinity as the
- 45:38word so anyway how did i get that out of adopted sons you tell me that's pretty deep yeah So,
- 45:45the Bible says that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God.
- 45:50So, that's one of the sons of God.
- 45:51The second sons of God are the adopted sons of God. That's us.
- 45:55So, before Christians are born again by the Spirit, we're called unsaved children of the devil.
- 46:04Matthew 13, 38 and verse 39, 1 John 3, 10.
- 46:08Also, the Bible describes us as the children of wrath in Ephesians chapter 2.
- 46:12So, once saved, the lost sinner becomes a spiritually adopted son of God.
- 46:17Romans 8, 14-15 says this, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
- 46:23For they have not received the spirit of bondage, again, to fear,
- 46:28but you have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry,
- 46:32Abba, Father. Abba is the Hebrew word for Father.
- 46:35But, and then in Galatians 4, 4 through 5, it says, but when the fullness of
- 46:39the time was come, God sent forth his son made of a woman, made under the law,
- 46:44to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
- 46:50So, that's Galatians 4, 4 through 5. So, we receive the spirit,
- 46:54we become a son of God, the Bible says, to as many as received him,
- 46:58to them became the sons of God, John 1, 12. Well, what is that process?
- 47:03The way God describes it is adoption.
- 47:06We were not the naturally born, begotten Son of God. We are the adopted Sons
- 47:12of God. That distinction is important.
- 47:14Then we have what's called the third class of Sons of God is the created Sons of God.
- 47:21So the created Sons of God have no earthly parents, but their direct creations made in His image.
- 47:26It's this category into which both Adam and the angels belong.
- 47:30Genesis 1.27, Genesis 2.7, Luke 3.38 concerning Adam. he's called the son of God, right?
- 47:38And in Luke three, then of course, in Genesis six, two through four,
- 47:43Job two, one, and then Job 38, seven, the angels are called the sons of God.
- 47:48So the verse below, and this is Job one, six, it shows both,
- 47:53you know, shows the created sons of God standing before God's throne in the third heaven.
- 47:57So Job one, six, it says, now there was a day when the sons of God came to present
- 48:01themselves before the Lord and Satan came also among them.
- 48:05So, Satan is distinguished from the sons of God.
- 48:09Those sons of God are angels. So, contemporary thinking teaches that all angels are messengers.
- 48:15This hackneyed definition for the angels arrived by looking up the Hebrew and
- 48:19Greek words for the meaning.
- 48:22So, that's the problem that, you know, Malak and Aglos, which is that Greek
- 48:27and Hebrew word, it means messenger.
- 48:29Did they deliver messages? Yeah, but that's not all they did.
- 48:33That limit. So, this is a perfect example of how just learning Greek and Hebrew
- 48:39will actually limit your Bible knowledge.
- 48:42What's the best way to study your Bible? Comparing Scripture with Scripture.
- 48:45What's the best way to study your Bible? Letting the Bible define those terms for you.
- 48:50So, we'll have to do a study on that, maybe a podcast on that one day on going
- 48:55to the Greek and Hebrew, how learning the Greek and Hebrew will actually destroy your Bible knowledge.
- 49:01So, instead of relying upon the scriptures to interpret themselves,
- 49:04they just go to the Greek and Hebrew words.
- 49:06So, a thorough search of the Bible will reveal that the role of angels far outreaches
- 49:12any simplistic description than that of a messenger.
- 49:15Many angels never relay a message at all. Instead, the primary purpose for the
- 49:19angel by scripture is to carry out judgments of God.
- 49:22And remember, we described them too as reflections, right? As an appearance.
- 49:28So, we talked about that before.
- 49:31Beholding the face of children, is that what you're referring to?
- 49:33Yeah. But they're also, they could be the appearance of a star.
- 49:37They can be an appearance of a minister of light. Oh, yeah. There's all kinds
- 49:41of things that they can appear as. They appear as men.
- 49:45So anyway, so they're obviously do more than just send messages,
- 49:49but they also send, you know, judgments.
- 49:52They also refer to as destroying angels, evil angels. These angels are responsible
- 49:56for dispensing the sword, pestilence,
- 49:58famine, plagues, and so forth upon man as directed by the Lord.
- 50:02So Genesis 19 verse 13, 2 Samuel 24 verse 16, 2 Kings 19 verse 35,
- 50:091 Chronicles 21 verses 12 through 16, 2 Chronicles 20 verse 9,
- 50:15Psalm 78 verses 42 through 49, Isaiah 37 verse 36, Isaiah chapter 45 verse 7,
- 50:23Ezekiel chapter 14, 21 through 22, Jonah chapter 3 verses 4 and 10,
- 50:29Revelations 8 verses 7 through 12, Revelation 9 verses 1 through 15,
- 50:34Revelation 15, 1 through 8.
- 50:37So on and on and on, when you go, and again, if you were to have your little,
- 50:41this is my angel Bible study notebook, you'll notice that what they almost never
- 50:47do is just deliver a message.
- 50:50There's a couple times I can think of where they deliver a message.
- 50:53The birth of Christ, Daniel tells, you know, tell them, said,
- 50:56hey, you know, the Prince of Persia is prohibiting Michael from showing up.
- 51:01And then in Revelation 14, you have the one that says, oh, you know,
- 51:05he preaches the gospel of the gospel of God, you know, about fear God and so
- 51:10forth and so on in Revelation 14.
- 51:12So, yeah, there's some angels that deliver messages, but more often than not,
- 51:16they're not delivering messages. or messages of death and destruction.
- 51:20So if you, yeah, exactly. If you run to the Greek and Hebrew,
- 51:24you will actually learn less Bible.
- 51:27Imagine that. You know, so anyway, that covers really what Martis outlines for
- 51:33the subject of angels in chapter 12.
- 51:36It's a great summary, honestly. It's good. I would encourage anybody,
- 51:39like if you want to write down and mark up your Bible with these things,
- 51:43if you want to start like a chain reference study on angels,
- 51:46go through these passages, Just go through this chapter, and this is a great
- 51:50way to encapsulate this information in a study Bible that you can carry with you, you know?
- 51:56I mean, it's just a quick way of really clarifying what angels are.
- 51:59I mean, we covered their roles, they execute judgment.
- 52:03Their names, what they're called, described as, titles.
- 52:06Exactly what angels are. I mean, Martus does a lot of the heavy lifting here.
- 52:09So, I mean, you had a ton of scripture references that people could start with
- 52:15to start putting it together themselves.
- 52:17So, check it out yourself, obviously. Compare scripture with scripture. Right.
- 52:21And remember, the purpose of this chapter, the goal for Mardis is to describe
- 52:28what the Bible describes as extraterrestrials.
- 52:32These are the true extraterrestrials, not little green men and lizards.
- 52:37Now, listen, if you ask us, do we believe in little green men and lizards and all that stuff?
- 52:42Yeah, but this is what I would fall back on.
- 52:46If you teach that angels are appearances, those could easily be appearances
- 52:51that the angels are deceiving mankind with.
- 52:55So what people think as the Nordics, as the grays, as the green aliens.
- 53:02Don't forget the lizard people. The lizard people, right?
- 53:05Those could very well be angels that are deceiving mankind as an appearance
- 53:12of something that they're not.
- 53:13Yeah. So, important information, great information.
- 53:17But yeah, that's it. That's his chapter 12 in that section on angels.
- 53:22So, we'll go in the same chapter where the next podcast will cover the devil himself.
- 53:28That'll be an interesting one, for sure. And just to wrap it up,
- 53:32I think it'd be appropriate to kind of read part of that chapter 12 summary, just to finish it up.
- 53:37But this chapter has addressed the Bible's summation of extraterrestrial life in general, alien life.
- 53:44Which can exist outside of the Earth and its atmosphere. The word alien,
- 53:49however, and we talked about this a little bit earlier at the beginning,
- 53:52is used in the strictest sense of the word meaning foreigner.
- 53:56That's it. And not space monsters from Mars or anything like that,
- 54:00like you just mentioned.
- 54:01Modern man has been brainwashed by the words extraterrestrial and alien and
- 54:05simply mentioning one or the other generally conjures image not based on truth.
- 54:10This study was designed to help you realign your thinking with God's words.
- 54:14While much of the alien life addressed in this chapter interacts with life on
- 54:18earth, the first heaven, these life forms also dwell in or have access to dwelling
- 54:22place of God, which is in the third heaven.
- 54:24So, you know, that's a good way to wrap it up.
- 54:27Great summary. Yep. Pretty cool. I mean, it's an interesting study, you know, angelology.
- 54:33I think it's a viable study. Here's the thing.
- 54:36Yes. You know, eventually we'll do a study on the Trinity, right?
- 54:40We'll do a study on Christology, life of Christ, on soteriology, on salvation.
- 54:46We'll cover false doctrines like Calvinism, Covenantalism.
- 54:50Those things are important, but guess what's in your Bible?
- 54:54297 times the word angel shows up, so it's worth studying it.
- 55:00I think what disappoints me about this generation of Christians nowadays is
- 55:06basically that they'll ignore these things.
- 55:09These are, yeah, are these, is this study going to, you know,
- 55:13put more money in your bank? You know, is this going to put a missionary on the field?
- 55:17Is this going to, you know, build up your vacation Bible school? You know, probably not.
- 55:21But you know what it is going to do? It's going to ground you more in the Word
- 55:24of God so that when false doctrine arises,
- 55:29around angels and the spirit life and extraterrestrials, you are less likely
- 55:34to be deceived because you know the truth.
- 55:37And I think it's important for people to understand.
- 55:41That we're about the truth. We're not about, you know, you know,
- 55:44just trying to come up with a nice little story or, you know,
- 55:47try to teach something in a kid's Sunday school class about angels that will draw with wings, right?
- 55:53So, something like this, I think every nuance that you find, whether it's angels,
- 55:58whether it's, you know, you know, the 24 elders in the book of Revelation,
- 56:03whether it's, you know, cherubim, seraphim, the flying wheel,
- 56:06you know, and Ezekiel, All those things are relevant.
- 56:10It's all of those things are worth studying out to establish what the Bible
- 56:15actually argues for those things.
- 56:17That means look at the biblical evidence. There's nothing wrong with being skeptical.
- 56:22As long as you're not, you don't have a questioning spirit, but you have good,
- 56:28valid questions. Because the Bible encourages that.
- 56:31Right? So, examine these things. You're supposed to reason with God.
- 56:35God calls you to reason. He tells you to study things out, prove all things.
- 56:40That's the way God has set up the Christian. So that's all we're doing, right?
- 56:44And I say that, the only reason I say this, and I know there's some listeners
- 56:48that they'll eat this stuff up, right?
- 56:50But then you may have some that'll be like, oh, you know, they're talking about
- 56:53angels again, got to turn it off. Look, you know, you have freedom,
- 56:56listen, whatever you want to.
- 56:58But I would just say, if you're interested in being a student of the Word of
- 57:01God, you have to study the whole counsel of God.
- 57:04Right and and i guarantee you
- 57:07if if you know we were talking to some of our missionary friends
- 57:11that have had to struggle with weird
- 57:14false doctrine in some of these countries especially especially
- 57:18pagan beliefs guess what they may have to do a doctrine a doctrinal study on
- 57:23angels because these other cultures may be worshiping the host of heaven the
- 57:29way that the israelites were and God had to reprimand and rebuke them and reprove them for.
- 57:35Well, how do you do that if you don't even know what the right doctrine of angels is?
- 57:42So anyway, I'm not saying you have to get a master's degree,
- 57:45a theological, you know, a doctorate on angelology, but it is worth the study
- 57:51for it. So hopefully you guys are enjoying it.
- 57:53Hopefully, you know, we're covering. If there's questions, and I know there's
- 57:56going to be some questions, you know, you don't go through a study like this
- 57:59where it doesn't generate other questions.
- 58:01You know, we'll try to be as thorough as we can. We'll spend as much time as
- 58:05we can on angelology, but, you know, just bear in mind, you know,
- 58:08we do have a lot of subjects and topics that we'll cover, so we'll probably
- 58:11bounce around still. Yeah, celestial horses.
- 58:13It's going to be my favorite. Yeah, exactly. Chariots of fire.
- 58:17Chariots of fire. That's pretty awesome. Yep.
- 58:19Now, just, I think you've pretty much summarized it pretty well.
- 58:23I mean, some of the stuff we, like you and I are interested in stuff,
- 58:26we eat it up, but there are probably other people that are not really exposed
- 58:29to this side of scripture.
- 58:31Right. And it's a whole council of God.
- 58:35If you have no access to the pure revelation God, you have, among other things,
- 58:39no means of detecting Satan.
- 58:41That's why it's good to know these things. It's good to study it out. Right.
- 58:45And not to shat away from it. Identify the right things. Just because it's weird
- 58:48doesn't mean we dismiss it. It's God's word. Yeah.
- 58:50Some of you may have kids, you know, that are watching some Hollywood movie
- 58:55or Walt Disney cartoon about something and some false notion about angels pops up.
- 59:01You gotta know. Are you going to let Hollywood teach them what angels are,
- 59:06or are you going to let the Word of God teach them what angels are, right?
- 59:09This is important, and this is a reason why a lot of our generation walk away
- 59:13from the faith, is because they never taught why what they believe is true.
- 59:17And this is how we're covering it. So I know it sounds like we're spending a
- 59:21lot of time justifying this, but I'm just trying to alleviate some of the concerns
- 59:25that some of our brethren, our brothers and sisters that might listen to this
- 59:29and go, you know, just maybe they're nervous about it.
- 59:31Like, oh, I don't want to talk about angels in front of my pastor,
- 59:33you know, but hey, you know, maybe your pastor's into this too.
- 59:37I don't know. Yeah. I don't know. Come angel buddies.
- 59:40Angel buddies. That's right. Real quick before we wrap it up,
- 59:43shout out to those that do listen and has reached out to us,
- 59:46whether with questions and encouraging comments.
- 59:50It's really a blessing to know that. And hopefully this has been a blessing
- 59:53to you. It's been edifying.
- 59:54Shout out to Joseph all the way out in West Virginia, who particularly likes
- 59:58to listen to every episode that comes out.
- 1:00:01So really appreciate you listening.
- 1:00:04Isn't Joseph the one that sent us the pictures of the angel's wings and said, hey, is this true?
- 1:00:08Yeah, no. Just kidding, Joseph. Just messing with you, man. Yeah,
- 1:00:13we're not picking on you.
- 1:00:14But weren't you just recently interviewed by another podcaster?
- 1:00:20Oh, yeah. Didn't even bring that up yet. So some of our listeners may or may
- 1:00:25not know of this other podcast called Unmovable Apologetics with Randy Keener and Caleb Hickam.
- 1:00:32And highly recommend it. Highly recommend it. It's a great podcast.
- 1:00:37Good Bible Believing Brothers. They're both institute teachers at Asheville Baptist Institute.
- 1:00:43And that's where you're attending now. Right. I'm taking classes right now with ABI.
- 1:00:47Pastor Andrew Fluter is the pastor out there. So some of our listeners will
- 1:00:51probably know them. But yeah, Unmovable Apologetics.
- 1:00:54Brother Keener had me on and we basically talked about public evangelism,
- 1:00:58street preaching, using apologetics, answering various questions and things like that.
- 1:01:03So it was a really good discussion, had a great time with him. That's awesome.
- 1:01:07We'll drop a link to the Immovable podcast and this is a formal invite for Randy
- 1:01:13to maybe come on our podcast. He agreed.
- 1:01:15I asked him if he'd come on the podcast, so we'll have to figure that out.
- 1:01:19Yeah, that'd be great. That'd be great. Excited for it.
- 1:01:23All right. I guess we'll wrap it up there unless you have anything else to add. Nope.
- 1:01:26All right. Awesome. Well, thanks again for listening. you know where to find
- 1:01:29us, got any questions, reach out to us, leave a comment, thumbs up,
- 1:01:33thumbs down, let us know if you like it or don't like it.
- 1:01:35We like all feedback, and we'll see you on the next one.
