Transcript
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: Three Yards Perkara, I'm afraid to argue, I got Simon Clancy as here.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Kaufman is here, and this is weird.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're on this new app called YouTube, which is pretty interesting, because you get to be kind of like on screen and get video.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: It only took us eight years to find this,
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: People tell me it's pretty cool.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're thought to Simon on this new happened, it's the new iteration of three yards per carry.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_03]: Now that I finally see what E2 freaks look like, it's like, I don't want any part of this.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, wow, I thought you would be like really beautiful kind of glones, you know, and look at the mess I've got a deal with.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's not good.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, it only took us eight years.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Anything you want to say to our new YouTube audience, what they can expect this season, what can they expect from our podcast?
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think the YouTube is supposed to be where you can find the video of Janet Jackson, Jackson's like wardrobe malfunction.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, now that we're on here,
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: I hope I want to look that up, maybe.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we got to be careful with our off-color jokes or anything like that, although we can always edit that.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's the great thing about YouTube.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's the great thing about the edit button.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, we're going to be talking cold dolphins today.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: And as always, this show is brought to you by 305, 800 paying, just like the dolphins kick off the season.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: You need to be ready too.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: After an accident, your first move should be calling 305, 800 paying.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Better business bureau accredited with an 8 plus rating, your car accident, personal injury specialists.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Fat's connection with trusted doctors and attorneys.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: Always ready to take your call, 24, 7.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: Again, that's 305, 800 paying.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: 800 paying.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're going to follow the same format that we always follow for these preview shows.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to start off with the dolphins when they have the ball.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's not as easy as saying, okay, just run the damn ball.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: No, they're not to have some type of balance attack against these against these these calls because the coach are not devoid of time.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: You got low to a lot to on the edge, quitty pay.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: Buckner, I like Xavier Franklin.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people don't like Xavier Franklin.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that's second day starting with Kenny Moore, is sneaky good, not great, but sneaky good.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: There's one, I guess he sticks out like a sore thumb and he will stick out like a sore thumb wearing 25 unsunday, but I guess we'll get to that as well.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: But let's start with the dolphins when they have the ball.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: What does Miami have to accomplish?
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: How do they go about attacking the cults Simon?
- 2:56[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, I think it's really interesting because I think the dolphins offence is obviously, I think it's going to be a strength certainly the skill positions.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_03]: It just depends on what Mike Rodney wants to do.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_03]: We have no idea what is kind of new iteration of his offence is going to be this year.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_03]: And we saw a couple of years ago it was kind of those kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of kind of
- 3:19[SPEAKER_03]: pushing the ball down the field last year or as much more condensed, you know, almost using the bubble screen and the quick screen game and the passing game, the short kind of flare out some Texas routes and extension of the run, you know.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_03]: So what is going to be his, you know, new thing this season.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's what we're, you know, we've all been talking about this on when I discord, we've been talking around what's that, what's that going to look like this year?
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: And also, like, how are people going to line up who's playing at Tire in, you know, the big mystery, you know, is Darren, what are going to, you know, pull the Scooby-Doo mask off and he's going to reveal an actual human being and a player who can actually contribute or, you know, when he get cut by week two, we don't kind of know, but also what's going to happen in the money.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_03]: that position and I think that's the thing that I find most intriguing really is that we kind of know what we're getting with, you know what you're getting with Hill and Water to a lesser extent, Westbrook and Keena, you know what you're getting with the league.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: How's that running game going to work?
- 4:16[SPEAKER_03]: Is it going to be Devon H and is it going to be all you going to be going to mix with the two?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_03]: How's that going to play out and how are they going to be integrated to the passing game and we'll go and get more carries running between the tackles when you're going to get those.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_03]: There's a bigger interior defensive line and that the cults have the deforest button as you know, a lot of the most consistent interior defenders of the NFL over last.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, how long has been the 10 years, eight years, nine years?
- 4:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so how the dull friend's handled the run game and I think I do really think I don't where you think Chris, but I do really believe that Mike Rodin is going to want to try and set a bit of a toughness tone by running the ball and running the ball at the heart of the cult.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think they're lying back in units particularly good.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_03]: And I think trying to attack and take on and bully that front seven by using that sort of slightly revamped offensive line using the heft of a really good and I think that's what we'll see early on obviously the quick passing game will come into it Chris, but I do think that trying to establish the run early game offensive lines and quick wins and then obviously that brings defenders back into the box and opens up the passing game down the field, which we struggled so much lead to the last year.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think you've you've arrived at it as for what what's going to happen in this game what they're going to look to establish and that is what everybody thinks it's the ground game.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: This is this is a season that we're they're trying to get back to some basics that way.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: This is Mike McDaniel's background as a run coordinator.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: He throws out a lot of things that that make it very hard to defend the run for defensive coordinators and you know.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: He'll go ahead and test his own metal that way so they're gonna look to establish themselves physically and in the run game but especially because the weakness here where you really want to go after their cults is in the secondary.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: on that defense.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that with that said, their secondary against our skill position players, against the Dolphin skill position players, Tyre Kille Jail and Waddle, obviously now we're talking about Nick Westbrook, Keene and Emily Washington.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to have to pull back, they're going to have to pull back just like everybody does against the dolphins.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to pull back their safety.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: They keep things capped.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's a proven successful way to attack the Miami dolphins, particularly when the dolphins are on the road.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: as they are here.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's what the cults are going to do.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: And the dolphins are going to have to go with the run game and stick with it.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so I have a feeling these games at the beginning, the very first game of the year, with my even with Mike McDaniel and as exciting as he is, have a tendency to be boring sometimes.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: And that's because I think that the dolphins will be feeling this out and trying to look to establish that ground game.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: Um, usually by the time we get a few games in, uh, I think that that's when they are starting to be, uh, analyzed by doing a little bit more of the passing game of Miami Dolphins.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, so they'll get there, but I, but you're wondering what new invention are we going to see?
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think we're going to see any new inventions, uh, frankly, from from Mike McDaniel or the Dolphins offense here.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think it is going to be, uh,
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, set up as a slide fest and we're going to be better than you.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think I'm I think out for the actions as well is that, you know, we crystal there about and lay out to love to on me on the outside, you know, love to we all love to coming out.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was excellent as a rookie last year, but playing against the run has not been a straight.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't a straight last year, pretty pay one of the better edge.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_03]: depends on terms of playing the run.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I think if you're, if you're going to try to attack back to the end, you're going to try to attack it through LAR2, through Zeya, frankly, and through Joe Baki, those live backers and down into that secondary of Cam Barnham and Nick cross.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's where you're going to try when the game.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's trying to be physical.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_03]: It's not allowing LAR2, and
- 8:23[SPEAKER_03]: less so pay, but especially, laughing to tear off on a patch of pool, on an Austin Jackson, if Jackson plays, especially, however, he hasn't done a lot of the last month or so, and certainly not against the, you know, Larry Bohr and if he, it borne has to play.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_03]: So I think guarding against that is going to be key, but I just think just running it down the throat of Lato and just say, look, stop us.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: If you're going to rush off the edge against our big 350-pound Patrick Paul, if you're going to do that with his big vein face mask, great, you knock yourself out and try and do that and we'll just run you over, we'll just run for your face and pick up Chuck Nardis that way.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's going to be really key, really critical for the Dolphins to set a tone early and just say to the coach, you know what, we're just going to do this to you all day, you've got to try and stop it.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: In the moment you do stop it, we know all about Xavier and have we're just going to pick you apart.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_03]: We know about Chauvera's ward, you know, we're getting a ward together in San Francisco.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_03]: We know about you guys in the age.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_03]: Once we run you want you out, then we're going to throw it in.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's how that's how to play out.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: but specifically with play action passing because that's what they'll do to make sure that they have some the time that they need back there in the pocket and that's how you really love to down is by running it over and then play action in.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: and then hitting them over the top because you suck it down by and it's got into the box.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_03]: Because you know, things played so much cloud coverage last year that we just couldn't hit over the top.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_03]: Everything had to be in that 15 to 20-y into media because we just weren't a threat to run the ball and people weren't scared of us to run the ball.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_03]: I think Gordon, I think the revamped offensive line, if everybody's healthy, I think it's an okay offensive line, if everybody's healthy.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, there's question marks which we've been through adding for an item, well this week the rubber meets the road.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 10:04[SPEAKER_03]: you know some good players on that defensive line and we've got to go out there and show you that we could play us to.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now let me ask you this, Simon, because you said it, you said it at the top of your first take about trying to get the offensive line to them some quick, easy wins.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Is it going to be as simple once you look at that roster on the other side of the ball?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Is it going to be as simple as trying to run inside zone?
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: So you could set up that one-on-one opportunity to the field side with Tyreek or Jalen Waddle.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: And as you get that safety off of the hash, you want to test Xavier Howard deep.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Don't you?
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: Because he wasn't good.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: He was a good caring guy's deep.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: when he was here last.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, but most of your game plan be to try to isolate them at least one or two times early in the game.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, but I think you do that by using the run game, which then brings those, like I said, brings those safety down a bit at isolates.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_03]: And now Xavier and Howard, all my certainly is not going to play.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_03]: man-covering against Tyre Keel, he developed much more into his own corner that the older he got for obvious reasons.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: Now Luana Rumo is the new defensive coordinator.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_03]: There's going to come a point if the Dolphins can establish the run game where Lu has to say, I'm either going to have to bring Nick cross down, I'm going to have to bring Cambano down, I'm going to have to take some chances outside, I've got experience outside, Ward, and how I'd know what they're doing outside.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_03]: It's not like we're banging two rookies out here.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so he'll be
- 11:31[SPEAKER_03]: And that's where it might be Daniel going to attack, but they've got to come out, you know, you want to see on that first drive, we all want to see drive them a field, score a touchdown if they start if they pick up 55 yards on the ground, mixing it up between Gordon and any chance and jets, whatever fantastic because that is just going to play into the the absolute hands of Miami, who then want to try and pick out a how I pick off a ward down the field, because I think they'll get chances to do so.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: Three things about this one Luana Ramo is gonna be tested as far as his own patients goes, because they're a defense coordinator.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're right.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: He will wanna bring that safety down.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: He will wanna to give them some help.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: If the dolphins are able to establish the run.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: The second thing though is that the Dalton's can't, in establishing the run game, they can't rely on so much of this perimeter running that they've done over the years because teams really are, I mean, I hate when people try and insist.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: that an offense has been figured out, because that's never really true, but in this case, I think teams are on to the Dolphins perimeter run game.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: It is how the Dolphins end up losing yards.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: And when they run the football and kind of moving the sticks back a little bit instead of getting closer to them, um,
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so this is sort of the recipe that has established with defenses over the last season and a half is to pull back.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: Keep a cap on Tyre Kill and Jalen Wattle, but also be aggressive to those outside runs.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's how the Dolphins put in pretty big place.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_02]: So the Dolphins can't do that.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: you know that they can't rely on that.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: They have to brutalize them more or less and test the offense of lines, you know, abilities here.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: And then the third thing is be careful if you're trying to target Xavier and Howard.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: I say that because the Miami Dolphins offense is more timing oriented,
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: than a lot of other offenses, it is more misdirection based than a lot of other offenses.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: And misdirection based offenses rely on defense of players being wrong to do the heavy lifting of schematically speaking.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: And Xavier and Howard spent two years going against this offense every day in practice.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: So he is absolutely going to see concepts ahead of time.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: and the dolphins don't run a lot of concepts in the passing game.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's sort of a myth.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: They come at a few seldom few number of passing concepts from a lot of different directions.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: and they present different fronts, different motions, different looks in order to get to those same passing concepts.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: But Xavier Howard has so much experience facing the dolphins in practice and seeing them up close that he's going to anticipate some of those concepts and sometimes to it is throwing almost blind.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: into those concepts because they're so anticipation oriented.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: So be very careful about testing Xavier and Howard because, ah, he was out of football last year.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: He's over the hill.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: If you try to test him, you might be playing into, you know, playing into his, uh, into, you know, basically throwing into the teeth.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: of what he can do, what he actually can do.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: Now that said, if you do find that you can shake loose of the safety at some point in the game, yes, of course you're going to want to test Xavier and Howard deep, but I don't know that the cults are going to volunteer, you know, that as an opening for you.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they will.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: And in fact, you might want to stay stay away from him for the majority of this game.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the other thing that Lou likes to do is, and we know from watching is, you know, those great Bengals defenses that you have, and they went to the Super Bowl, you know, runs a lot of covers there, runs a lot of cover one, double those sorts of things, but also, you know, he eighth in the league in simulated pressure.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_03]: fourth in the league in six man pressures and seventh in the league in seven man pressures.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_03]: Now, if you want to bring a seven man pressure against Tour and Tariq Hill and Jaila Moodle, good luck with good luck with that, Lou and I remember.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_03]: I doubt very much, you'll do that.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_03]: He's way too smart.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: but he likes the blitz, you know, way more than the coats of done previously and even the iteration of the coats that we played last year than Matt, even for his coats before that, he blitz his way more than that.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_03]: But I just think he's that mad find, he's too likes to mess around on the back end, he likes to rotate coverage, pre-imposed snap, all of those things and a lot of disguise and to Chris's point as well, which he may perfectly, that
- 16:17[SPEAKER_03]: and just to sort of add the cherry on top of the Xavier and Howard cake is that the I work that two are dars is so good, you know, the manipulation of the eyes, the looking off receivers and throwing, you know, it's the the Matthew Stafford's who will throw that two are does a lot of looking one way far into.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_03]: Xavier will have seen that as much as any corner back in the NFL.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he will not be taking that cheese.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_03]: I don't believe, especially if they, you know, with the with his own coverages and the mixing that Lou likes to do, I think it will be an it will be a very interesting.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_03]: way that he plays that secondary.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_03]: And it goes back to the thing that we talked about right of the start.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_03]: Stomp on the throat in the run game and that will change it by the very nature of how we're honoring our has to play defense that will change things for the better for the dolphins.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: So this is setting up as a contest of who can be more disciplined?
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's basically can the dolphins stay disciplined and stick with
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: the run game and attacking the defense at its, you know, at its weakness based on spacing and based on alignment and some things like that, can they state he's disciplined but can blue and a remote state discipline does well.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're going to go to break, but before we do, let me tell you about underdog football is back and underdogs the best place to make picks and win money all season long.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: Playing underdog is easy.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: Just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like touchdowns, receiving yards, interceptions, and more.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: Get your picks right, and you could win up to 5,000 times your cash.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: You can play with that as little as $1.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there's a few plays I kind of like, but two kind of stood out.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that they go to the game script.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Washington, 17 and a half receiving yards.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think higher.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Tua is going to look at his slot receiver being Malik Washington, and I think he's going to gravitate more toward him than when it's Nick Westbrook, Akine, we saw it all during camp, we saw it in the preseason.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that his chemistry with Nick Westbrook Akine is still there, so 17 and a half receiving yards for Malik Washington, it almost too good to be true and here's another one.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: Which means that the touches don't only have two healthy backs right now, and whoever they bring up, which is likely going to be Jeff Wilson, here's another one twenty seven and a half rushing yards for all of you Gordon, I think he could be the headliner in this game meaning he he's going to get maybe twelve touches and if he gets ten in the run game, I don't think twenty seven and a half yards is that tough.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_03]: But also, if he starts picking up your arms early, you just want to keep feeding him.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_03]: That was how he got issue where he's going away from the hot hand in the running game.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_03]: He's got, again, going to Chris's point.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_03]: He's got to be consistent with staying with that.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_03]: And not the, I'm just going to start throwing it around, throwing it around, throwing it around.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_03]: The, the one caveat to Malik is that obviously Kenny Moore is the nickel is probably the best secondary player.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: And certainly you have been working over the last few years.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: That's a tough ask for anybody.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: But what that does,
- 19:18[SPEAKER_03]: Nick Westbrook, a keen A on, you know, can buy them, for example, or, you know, this is, and this is where you, you would hope that Darren Waller might place some snaps, because you get Darren Waller running against Joe Baku, you're getting running against, you know, those secondary guys, that is the, those safety's, you know, Nick Cross and Daniel Scott and those guys, that is, you know, that is where you win, and it's trying to find that as matchups.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't see all of them having a Jonathan Taylor type 100 plus yards impact.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_03]: If Mike went down in a consistent and patient to the run and game.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: So download the app today and sign up for the promo code three yards.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's the number three yards.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: Just score $50 bonus funds when you play your first five dollars.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's a promo code three yards, the number three yards.

- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: All right, and now we're going to talk about when the dolphins are on defense when the Colts have the ball.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: Not until too long ago, I think it's been three weeks.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: They named Daniel Jones as their quarterback.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: Some people were rejoicing some dolphins fans were like, OK, this is pretty good.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: Others were thinking, wait a minute, is it that good?
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know where to stand on this.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: I will say this.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: Anthony Richardson had more
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think he had a better opportunity to flabbergast the dolphins on an any given Sunday and I know he wasn't good last year when they played him without tour.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: But he made the plays late, especially with his legs.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: is he capable of having that one game that won in every five weeks where he just annihilates you is he actually done it before.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: Danny Jones, I guess is a much more consistent sort, but I don't know where to stand in between these two whether one is better than the other.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: Simon did the dolphins
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: get the right match up here, or the wrong match up with Daniel Johnson.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_03]: Historically, we've always been for, I think, my mobile, call it a black sport, that's the kind, you know, especially with our past ratios, we've so upfield, you know, and sometimes, you know, just maintaining edge discipline against mobile sport, that's so hard to do when you've got those kind of penalties on the edge that we've got.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_03]: Now, not saying that Daniel Jones isn't mobile either, because he he most patently is, but historically the thing that I found
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: that worries Daniel Jones a lot at his pressure.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_03]: We've run an awful lot of simulated pressure.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_03]: And I think he doesn't often come.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_03]: And I do wonder if he starts to come more solely because we know it's the sort of thing that he can get in Daniel Jones's head, the ghost that he might see.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: And I think, again, as all of a things time has established the run early, I think getting chopped and getting charmed and getting Philips.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_03]: and getting to see like getting in and having a few early knockdowns, a few early hits, making him feel the pressure, you know, forced him to step on into the pocket where you've got a Jordan Brooks, he's going to come up and smack you in the mouth.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think beating Daniel Jones around early is as important as it is to establish a running game on offense, not because he's going to get into a rhythm because he's going to pick you apart, but because he's not that sort of quarterback.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that it's just historically something that you struggled with.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_03]: And if you can smack you around a bit, I think the interceptions will come.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: The one thing you don't want to do is obviously is, you know, it's a veteran offensive line.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_03]: Generally there's some very good players on their Quentin Nelson's going to be a Hall of Famer.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_03]: But I'd rhyme and got the $100 million contract in the off season.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Jonathan Taylor is a star, as we, you know, as we, you know, we tried to trade for him 18 months ago, two years ago, whatever.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, that's not what you wanted.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: And I think much as we want to establish the run, I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what the cult's trying to do is come out and establish a bit of Jonathan Taylor and take the pressure Chris off of Daniel Jones, who kind of feels like the smallest wall or the tallest wall, even in this cornerback race, but the cult's have been having.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: Well, as I said before, you know, who lost the battle between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson, the Indianapolis Gulf did?
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's a really tough quarterback battle to have and say that you're a serious team for the year.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that we're probably a little bit too caught up in the nuances of whether we drew the right quarterback between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson because I look at it from a broad perspective, the strength of that defense or sorry, the offense is going to be more in the hands of Michael Pittman and Tyler Warren Josh downs, you know, guys like that and so the guy that you want.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: Playing is going to be the guy who can distribute the ball into the hands of the strength of the offense and not the guy who's being asked to do it all himself.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: I would put it to you this way between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, who do you trust more our front seven or our back four back five right if you trust the front seven more.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: then I think you would rather face Anthony Richardson because Anthony Richardson is trying to be to front seven, you know, he's trying to beat it with his legs, he's trying to beat it by scrambling out of the pocket and he's trying to escape pressure and things like that, but if that's the strength of your defense, you take that battle.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: you know what what the battle that you don't want if you have are the Miami Dolphins and you have just lost you know Javanna Holland and you've just lost the you know Jalen Ramsey and you're going with this patchwork secondary we which as Simon said before we talked about that out at infinite them so if if you have this bad secondary what you don't want is to fight the battle in the secondary
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: and in Josh Towns.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: You want to take the ball out of the hands or take it out of that arena.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that Daniel Jones
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: does put more in the arena of our secondary versus their skill players because I'll distribute it.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: So the battle is really gonna be thought between Daniel Jones and the simulated pressures.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: Because he does not do well against the blitz.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: But my M, he's also not gonna blitz a lot.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, that's not Anthony Weaver's style.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's gonna be a pressure for all day.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it may become at you from different ways and simulated pressures is definitely a thing.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think that it's going to be about whether you have actually managed to throw Daniel Jones off in his processing.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_02]: It was easy to throw Anthony Richardson off of, I hate to say it, but it was last year.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: He was brutally bad in that game against the Dalton's a year ago.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: And the first half, you know, you thought, this guy can't continue in the second half.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, it's, it's that bad.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: It really is.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: He made a few plays by the end.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: They scored 16 points, you know, the, you know, let's, let's not say that he pulled up any trees.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: They probably drew, if there is a wrong quarterback, which, you know, I don't think the really is a wrong quarterback between, uh, between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: But if there is a wrong quarterback, then Daniel Jones is the one that they drew and that's the wrong one.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: I would have rather put in face, Anthony Richardson.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, yeah, but it shouldn't matter.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: It shouldn't matter.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: But the skill position player is good.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: Our, you know, my equipment is good to see that I think Eric Pierce led the league last year in Yard's per reception with 22.7 or something.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: Josh Downs is a really good player.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Ad and I Mitchell is really fast and you got the title war and you got my ID Cox.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_03]: You got Jonathan Taylor.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_03]: The skill position player is a good, you know, and if you don't want to let Jones because he has historically been able to get into a rhythm and hit receivers.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: playing in New York who probably not been in the round as good as those players have been.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's really important.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_03]: And that that receiving call as we know will test our very, very, very makes it make shift secondary with as we discussed.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: And Simon, I think I think also deserves to be said that in this is going to be the case for pretty much ever game.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: But if you sit back and if you're not physically challenging, those receivers, and you're allowing them free access to run and find those holes between the zones, that was my concern in the preseason.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: There wasn't enough of that.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: There was a lot of free access and guys were finding pretty wide open holes in the zone and so we're going to start to see now if that was just free season as it often is.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: or whether this could potentially be a real problem.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: And if it is a real problem, then even Daniel Jones can distribute that ball to those skilled position players and those wide open spaces between the zones with free access running into them and do some damage.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's the real thing to watch.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: Now Jonathan Taylor,
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: is, you know, he's a headline back and the Dolphins have faced a few in the last two years, but they haven't allowed a 100-hour rusher since the 2022 season.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think the streak is at 32 right now of consecutive games that haven't allowed a 100-hour rusher.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: Is it as simple as just stopping him on first-down so he could maneuver the game script into third and longs to get Daniel Jones behind the sticks?
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you stop Johnathan Taylor, I really, on first-down, I really don't see how
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: uncoiled really like they I don't think they could get out of first gear if they can't get Jonathan Taylor going in on first down so isn't as simple as that just to vote your resources to first down to try to win the down and win try to get them out of just giving the ball to Jonathan Taylor incessantly for 25 minutes because I mean for 25 times because if
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see any other way than with a superstar Jonathan Taylor game.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: There's the same script, it's the same script pretty much as we talked about in the Dolphins Beauty and the Colts and it's established the running game with one of the most slept on players in the NFL.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was going through some of the Colts' tape last weekend, Monday night, some of his
- 30:51[SPEAKER_03]: 2024 tape is so good, he's still such a phenomenal running back.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: And nobody's been talking, you know, people took that sake long to a Derek Henry, who had James Cook, nobody talks that on Taylor.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: And he's still a top three, four running back in this league, you know, he wasn't even in the top 100 players.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: And you look at how bad their offensive line was with the injuries last season, you just look at what he was able to do.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_03]: And obviously the fact that he reached some of the so-called, he is still an elite running back.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_03]: And again, yeah, you want to get every team into third and a long, more so with the team that's being held by Daniel Giants, but what you cannot allow, this would Jonathan Taylor to start running rock shuttle over you, because that will be a long day for everybody.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: For me, I think bigger key is going to be,
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: In particular with Jonathan Taylor, I will mention this, getting to the outside with his speed is something that you're going to want to keep an eye on because some of these corners that you're going to throw out there during the game, if you're going to throw jack-jones out there and then things like that, you
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I don't know that you wouldn't want to challenge them in tackling.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think that Miami Secondary, that's one of the things that you're going to want to see if they can do is tackle.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that if you're looking at what the cults can do on offense that could potentially win the game,
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: is I would look at those tight ends with Tyler Warren and Moiley Cox, you know, and Moiley Cox is a swim playing, right?
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: And he is a good tight end actually, taking a side Tyler Warren.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: So you're going to have those two guys, and where can you challenge Miami's defense even if Miami is pulling back the secondary and trying to bail because they know they're weak in the secondary.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's kind of a known.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: But if you can find weak links in the linebackers in terms of coverage, you know, Willie Gay was not a strong cover guy in the preseason that we've seen so far.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: He made a lot of plays in camp.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_02]: but he's not been a strong cover guy, you're going to start testing whether those three intersections that Tyrell dots and produced last year are real, you know, really belive actual ability and coverage because those tight ends can find you and take advantage of that way.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're weak like you can you can have everything be right.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: And if you have a weak link in your lineback or coverage, it doesn't matter.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what's so scary sometimes.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: About the way that defense plays out and the way that defense left a lot of holes out there and a lot of wide open spaces for people is one guy, a lineback or just, you know, he's playing eyes on the quarterback, but if he doesn't see it,
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: then the guys wide open and you know the the guy that you're sneaking over there and to into that little hook zone is wide open and you've got a third and long conversion pretty easy you know that's and it looked too easy at times in the preseason so I would really watch those two those two tight ends against our guys our guys and the off ball line backers so we'll see all right it's time to pick the game before we get out of here uh
- 34:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that a lot of they have a lot of dolphins have a lot of things going for them in this game.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's a dome.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's week one.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Two is numbers.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody posted the numbers on ESPN the other day.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: Two is numbers on week one historically have been absolutely great.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: This team hasn't necessarily exploded, but they did have one explosion against the chargers in a dome.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I do think that that offense is going to be, it's going to be uncorped a little bit and they're going to have some moments
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's going to be a runaway.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think there'll be some anxious moments in the second half, but I got Miami kind of winning kind of comfortably here.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: 27 to 16.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: Your thoughts, Simon?
- 34:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to be prepared to go to the air yesterday.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: I have Miami winning this fairly comfortably 3417.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I just don't see this in first game.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't see Miami really uncoorting on offense.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that it's going to be tight.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be nervous, nerve-wracking, and the dolphins are going to look to establish the run and try and win with basics.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so this is going to turn into something like a 17-16-slug vest.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the dolphins will come out on top.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: They should come out on top.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, this is going to be end up being one of those, you know, I'm thinking of some of the contests between the dolphins and the patriots over the years, you know, between Mike McDaniel and the patriots is they end up kind of playing a little tight, a little close to the vest, and I think that you'll see that in week one before the dolphins start to get into more of a rhythm and start opening things up a little bit.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_02]: So, 17, 16 is the way I've got it.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: I just go back to last year's game, and how we should have beaten them comfortably with Tyler Hunt, they call it back, and we just ended up moughing it, whether or not it's shooting a stage.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_03]: The big holding call on the most at round, the ridiculous fourth down, the fumble buying, of the fumble I'm most certain, it's just like we should have, you know.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the score was 16 to 10 and most are fumbled inside of your own 20 to give them one touch down and you're fumbled inside of their 20 to 10.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, most of it run.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_03]: We got cool back by the hold of the first, you know, when we when we grab back momentum in that game.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, look, I, I'm going to prepare this thing.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: Next week.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: So we are, we're fixing for a win.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: If I, if I had more faith that the Dalton's offense was already in rhythm, you know, coming out of training camp already in rhythm during the preseason if we had more flashing signs of that, then I'd go a different way in the prediction, but.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: But we don't, and Tyree Kill has been out of practice for a while.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Devon H. Han has been out of practice for a while.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are only just now coming back, you know, right this week in the, in the coming days before the, um, before the game.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, so I think I think that this could be a little tight, little sloppy at times on offense.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_03]: Given the cold-skilled position players, I think that they had an upper echelon call back, a Jared Goff, a Matthew Stafford, a Jordan Lab, I think we're looking at a very different game.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_03]: Because they're receivers versus our secondary, which is a huge strength against a massive weakness.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: And it's often like to actually make it put it into that realm.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, and it will be a fascinating welcome to the NFL moment for those rookie interior defensive life and Kenneth Grant going against Quentin Nelson.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_03]: It will be like, you know, this is a guy sending up at the Hall of Fame and he's still in the, you know, he's not, he's not on the back nine of his career, he's still, you know, top of his, top of his game.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_03]: So that will be interesting, but I think, yeah, it's Daniel Jones and I think that might just be enough for the dolphins.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_03]: And actually,
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're going to call it right here.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: The next time we talk to you will be on Monday.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: We have results in hand and we'll give you a recap of this game, dolphins cults.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to keep you school.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_03]: Surely this is now our own video.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to keep a score of.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_03]: We need a back road behind you.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: Do we have a revisit these?
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: Do we have a revisit these?
- 38:29[SPEAKER_03]: We should, from this point forward, Alfa's gonna have a blackboard, I'll get a blackboard and I'll stick it about whiteboard, stuck it behind him, and we'll just get track, and we'll get track every single week, let's do that.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: And then at the end of the season, somebody will win a prize, which will be at whatever.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: All right, talk to you on Monday.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for listening to three yards per catty.
