Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I am Sherri Mackey and it's time right now for
- 0:05Speaker 2: today's word. Faith will take you where fear never could.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Matthew 14, 27 in the Amplified says, take courage.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I am. Stop being afraid.
- 0:20Speaker 2: You know, there are moments in life when God will
- 0:23Speaker 2: ask you to do something that makes absolutely no sense
- 0:26Speaker 2: to the natural mind. He'll call you to step beyond
- 0:29Speaker 2: what is familiar, comfortable and predictable and into a place
- 0:34Speaker 2: where you have no choice but to trust him. That's
- 0:38Speaker 2: what happened to Peter. The disciples were in the middle
- 0:41Speaker 2: of the Sea of Galilee when they saw Jesus walking
- 0:44Speaker 2: on the water. The wind was fierce, the waves were raging,
- 0:48Speaker 2: and fear had already taken hold of them.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Then Jesus spoke, take courage, I am. Stop being afraid.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Peter responded, Lord, if it's you, command me to come
- 0:59Speaker 2: to you on the water.
- 1:01Speaker 1: And Jesus said, come. Think about that.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Peter could have stayed in the boat with everyone else.
- 1:08Speaker 2: He could have admired Jesus from a distance. He could
- 1:11Speaker 2: have said, Lord, I believe you can walk on water,
- 1:14Speaker 2: but I'm going to stay right here where it's safe.
- 1:17Speaker 2: But Peter stepped out. And sometimes faith requires you to
- 1:21Speaker 2: step out before you can see how God is going
- 1:24Speaker 2: to work it out. Peter actually walked on water, but
- 1:28Speaker 2: then when he looked at the wind, he focused on
- 1:31Speaker 2: the waves.
- 1:31Speaker 1: He became afraid, and guess what? He began to sink.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Isn't that just like us?
- 1:37Speaker 2: We can start out believing God, trusting his word, and moving.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Boldly toward our purpose. Then we look at the circumstances.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We look at the bank account.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We look at the diagnosis. We look at the rejection.
- 1:48Speaker 1: We look at the opposition.
- 1:51Speaker 2: We look at what We can't do. And then suddenly
- 1:54Speaker 2: our faith begins to give way to fear. But here's
- 1:58Speaker 2: what encourages me about Peter. Jesus didn't abandon him when
- 2:03Speaker 2: he began to sink. Peter cried, Lord, save me. And
- 2:06Speaker 2: immediately Jesus reached out his hand and he caught him.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Notice this.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Peter may have stumbled in his faith, but he was
- 2:15Speaker 2: still closer to Jesus outside the boat than he ever
- 2:18Speaker 2: would have been sitting safely.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Inside the boat. Come on, Jesus.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Maybe you've been focusing on the fact that you started sinking.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But today I want you to celebrate the fact that
- 2:28Speaker 2: you had enough faith to step out in the first place.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Don't let a moment of doubt convince you. that you
- 2:34Speaker 2: should return to the boat. The boat represent what's familiar.
- 2:38Speaker 2: The boat represents comfort. The boat represents what you can't control.
- 2:41Speaker 2: But sometimes God is calling you into deeper waters where
- 2:45Speaker 2: your only security is him. So step out. Step out
- 2:49Speaker 2: in fear. Step out of insecurity. Step out of what
- 2:53Speaker 2: people say that you couldn't do. Step out of your past.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Step out of your comfort zone. Step out and trust
- 2:58Speaker 2: God with your future. And if you begin to see,
- 3:01Speaker 2: cry out, Lord, save me. His hand is still reaching
- 3:05Speaker 2: the same Jesus. who called Peter unto the water. It's
- 3:08Speaker 2: the same Jesus who will sustain you. And when the
- 3:11Speaker 2: waves get rough, don't let the storm convince you to
- 3:14Speaker 2: abandon your faith.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You keep your eyes on Jesus.
- 3:17Speaker 2: You may have stepped out of the boat before you
- 3:20Speaker 2: ever discover what God has placed on the inside of you.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Step out. Oh, Lord Jesus, increase our faith.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Give us courage to step beyond what's familiar and trust
- 3:31Speaker 2: you in what we can't control.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Oh, God, when fear rises.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And the waves around us become overwhelming, help us to
- 3:38Speaker 2: keep our eyes on you. Remind us that we don't
- 3:41Speaker 2: have to understand every step to obey your voice. And
- 3:44Speaker 2: when we stumble or begin to sink, remind us that
- 3:48Speaker 2: your hand is still reaching for us. We refuse to
- 3:51Speaker 2: let fear keep us in the boat when you're calling
- 3:54Speaker 2: us into deeper waters. Give us the faith to step out,
- 3:58Speaker 2: the courage to keep walking, and the confidence to know
- 4:01Speaker 2: that you'll never leave us in Jesus' name. That's your
- 4:04Speaker 2: word for today. Take it, apply it to your everyday life,
- 4:07Speaker 2: and you continue to be encouraged and inspired. It's your
- 4:09Speaker 2: early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackey.
