- 0:02Welcome back to Mommy Wood, the podcast where we dive into the
- 0:07wild, beautiful and sometimes completely crazy world of being
- 0:12both a mom and a performer. I am your host Emily and if
- 0:16you've ever found yourself running on coffee, passion and
- 0:20the sheer willpower of a sleep deprived parent, then you are in
- 0:24the right place. On this episode of Mommy Wood, I
- 0:28have the pleasure of sitting down with the hilarious and
- 0:30wonderful Sayla Victor. She's an actor, comic, host, and
- 0:34boy mom of three. She is one of eight kids.
- 0:40She has six brothers so she is definitely already used to that
- 0:43boy energy. And it also makes sense that she
- 0:46figured out how to make her voice heard early on, and since
- 0:50then, she has built such a cool and varied career with the TV
- 0:56guest spot on shows like Modern Family at Brooklyn 99-A big
- 0:59feature in Bad Santa, too. And if you have kids who watch
- 1:03Miraculous Ladybug, you probably already know her as the voice of
- 1:07Chloe. She's also a theater girl at
- 1:10heart and performs on stage in LA, all while raising three boys
- 1:15and somehow keeping her sense of humor intact.
- 1:18Her boy mom content on social media, on Instagram.
- 1:22Make sure you follow her. It's so good, so funny, we love
- 1:27it. In our conversation, we get into
- 1:30how she balances the chaos of boy mom life, but with her
- 1:35creative life, and while why comedy has been her through line
- 1:41and how it's helped her through, and the messy, funny, surprising
- 1:44ways that her career and motherhood have really shaped
- 1:49her. This was such a great, lovely,
- 1:52fun, relatable conversation. I know you're going to enjoy
- 1:58this episode of Mommy Would with Stella Victor.
- 2:03We're off to a Fang and Star. Yes, we are.
- 2:06We're. Here we are here.
- 2:09Sayla, thank you so much for being here.
- 2:11Thank you. I'm so excited to talk to you
- 2:14boy. Mama 3.
- 2:16Three boys. Wow. 1.
- 2:18Girl. Right, one girl.
- 2:20Doesn't it sound like the easiest thing ever?
- 2:22Question. But it's all relative.
- 2:26That's the thing. You don't know.
- 2:27What do you like? I remember having with my first
- 2:29son, I just thought it was the hardest thing in the world.
- 2:32Yeah. And I didn't.
- 2:33The worst part is I didn't expect it to be hard.
- 2:36Like, I was a nanny for many years.
- 2:38I'm one of eight kids. I taught kids for years in camps
- 2:41and classes, and all of a sudden I was always around kids.
- 2:44So I'm like, why is this so hard?
- 2:46Like, I could get 4 kids to bed every Saturday night for four
- 2:50years in college. Why can't I get my one kid to
- 2:52sleep? Yeah, I used to think, I think
- 2:54that I was like, like a baby whisperer.
- 2:58Totally. I was like, turns out they're
- 2:59just not my kids. That's right.
- 3:01That's that's. The key You're the best parent
- 3:04until you become one. It's.
- 3:05So true. It's it's very unfortunate.
- 3:08So you're like other kids would just listen to me?
- 3:10Why are you not just listening to me?
- 3:13So what are your boys names and ages?
- 3:16OK, Ezra is 7, Micah is 4, almost 5, and Ari just turned 2.
- 3:22Oh my God. I know so you have quite a.
- 3:25Range. Yes.
- 3:26They're about two to 2 1/2 years apart.
- 3:28Yeah. So you knew that.
- 3:31So you've grew up with a lot of kids in your family.
- 3:35Where do you fall in that? Sign #4 and I have six brothers,
- 3:40so I was used to boys. You are.
- 3:43Surrounded. I was surrounded and yeah, I had
- 3:46this weird thing. I for sure thought I was having
- 3:49a girlfriend. And my third, because I already
- 3:52had two boys, I was convinced was a girl.
- 3:54I'm like, there's no way that's true.
- 3:56It's not a boy. And they were like, it is.
- 3:59And here's the penis on the ultrasound.
- 4:01So you cannot argue with that. I know.
- 4:03Was there any? Did you have any Like, I forget
- 4:10what the term is. Gender disappointment.
- 4:11Yeah. Because did you want a girl?
- 4:13Did you care? I.
- 4:14Did have gender. So interestingly enough, and
- 4:17people don't talk about it a lot because it's sort of like a
- 4:20shame. Yeah.
- 4:21Because of course you want a healthy baby.
- 4:23Ultimately, that's all that matters.
- 4:24Sure, sure. But there was only because,
- 4:29like, I did have this weird fantasy of like, me and my
- 4:32daughter going to get Manny Petty's and dressing her up.
- 4:35Like I loved my dolls growing up.
- 4:37And because I had so many brothers, I wanted a little
- 4:39girl. I have a sister too, who's my
- 4:41best friend. Like, I love her, but you know,
- 4:43I just had this fantasy that was like, we can no more.
- 4:47Yeah. Well the worst part is we did
- 4:49IVF for the first so I found out I had two boy embryos.
- 4:55So so at. Least.
- 4:56I have a girl to choose from. You're like I.
- 4:58Just know, I just, I know there's no 50, There's no 50. 50
- 5:00although so we did do IVF but my second and third were natural so
- 5:05that's why I thought Oh well this is my girl you know like
- 5:09but. That's so interesting how that
- 5:11seems to happen a lot. But did you have to do?
- 5:15Well, obviously if you were doing IVFI, assume there was
- 5:18like a period of struggle there and then.
- 5:23So then were the other two kind of more of a surprise or were
- 5:27you just like, let's just try again and see if we need?
- 5:30So yeah, so basically what happened was after our first, I,
- 5:35we, we tried right away, you know, but and breastfeeding and
- 5:37everything. And then I was done after a
- 5:39year. And so I'm like, OK, now I'm
- 5:41going to probably get pregnant. And then it was like 8 months
- 5:43past being done breastfeeding and I still wasn't pregnant.
- 5:47So I emailed the reproductive Dr. and I'm like, it's just not
- 5:50happening. Like it's been, I don't know
- 5:51what, a year and a half now and there's nothing.
- 5:54So let's put in this other boy embryo.
- 5:57And she wrote back and said like, come in Monday, whatever.
- 6:00So I'm like, OK. And I realized I was like, hey,
- 6:02wait, that's weird. I think, oh, because that's
- 6:04right. She had asked me where I was in
- 6:06my cycle because that matters. And I'm like, oh wait, that's
- 6:09weird. I haven't started my period.
- 6:11It's been like 30 days. Like it was only two days late,
- 6:14but I'm like, I should take a pregnancy test.
- 6:16And it was December 23rd. So I took a pregnancy test
- 6:20pregnant, which was amazing for Christmas.
- 6:23And so I didn't tell my husband that was the hardest part for
- 6:27two days because I wanted to surprise him.
- 6:29Like it's like perfect. I know I had to.
- 6:33So that was amazing and such a weird, like, it's like taking
- 6:37your car into the shop and it was, you know, not working and
- 6:39then it's perfect. Yeah, you're like, actually just
- 6:42kidding. I don't need to.
- 6:43Oh my God, that's so wild. Was it a similar thing?
- 6:47The second. Or the third time we were done
- 6:50like I. This is TMI, but I will never
- 6:52forget my husband was a vulgar of TMI and he's like, I'm so
- 6:56scared we're going to get pregnant because I'm not on the
- 6:58pill or whatever. I'm 41 years old.
- 7:00We've had fertility problems. Yeah.
- 7:02It wasn't like it was easy to get pregnant with the second,
- 7:04you know? So he's like, I'm just going to
- 7:06buy condoms because you refuse to get on the pill.
- 7:09And I just know we're going to get baby done screen.
- 7:11I'm like, you are crazy. I'm not going to have sex with
- 7:13you if you buy condoms. I'm like, so go ahead and buy
- 7:16them, but we're not going to use them and we are not going to get
- 7:20pregnant. We're 41.
- 7:21Are you insane? Like this is crazy.
- 7:23Pregnant the next month, June, that was May.
- 7:27We got pregnant in June. He was like, man.
- 7:29I told you, you know, sometimes it's meant to be.
- 7:33I'm struggling with like, do we even try for another one?
- 7:37And it's kind of like, yes, I don't know.
- 7:40But it's like I've been so crazy about like making the decision
- 7:44or not where I'm like, I've gotten to the point where I'm
- 7:46driving myself crazy. I just need to like, if it's
- 7:48wait, if it's meant to be. She just turned 30.
- 7:52That's perfect. Yeah, but it's also hard because
- 7:55I'm like, well, we're already like out of diapers.
- 7:58One girl is pretty easy. So true those things.
- 8:02I mean, you're not wrong like one, there are a lot of benefits
- 8:06to having 1. I feel like I was a really good
- 8:08parent with one. I was.
- 8:10Able to. I think you're doing great with
- 8:12three from what I see. Well, you get into survival mode
- 8:15a little bit, like with three, even two, I'm not going to lie.
- 8:18Like, because it's just harder, there's more people who need
- 8:20you, you know? Well, even 2 you're you're a
- 8:25one-on-one you're it's man to man with if you have a partner,
- 8:29but then three you're like, well, this third one of those is
- 8:32fun. One of you has to.
- 8:33Be so and 3rd does fend for themselves.
- 8:35It's really interesting. I'm a third.
- 8:37Are you? Yeah, but it's there's also the
- 8:40toss up of like the third fending for themselves or the
- 8:43third, like, because I'm the baby.
- 8:46Yeah. So it's also like, I don't know,
- 8:48I was also, you know, so different this time too.
- 8:52I mean like me growing up. Exactly.
- 8:55Kids growing up. Nowadays, just it's just, it is
- 8:58a different world and we parent so differently than our parents,
- 9:02which is great, which is. Good for the most part.
- 9:04Yeah, there's so many great things about the way our
- 9:07generation, the resources we have and the people we can learn
- 9:11from or whatever, versus our parents have like one book, you
- 9:13know, like Doctor Spock. Whatever.
- 9:15And they're like, you were fine, you were fine.
- 9:17Everything is fine. Like I gave you all the blankets
- 9:19in your crib, you didn't suffocate.
- 9:21And I'm like, luckily just if I have a love of the fittest out
- 9:24here. Totally.
- 9:25We made it. We did it it.
- 9:27Really was. That's why our generation is so
- 9:29great. Literally, I know it's.
- 9:32So true. So knowing that you came from a
- 9:35big family and you you just kind of it seems like you just knew
- 9:41that you wanted kids, but then as an actor, were there any
- 9:44like. Yeah.
- 9:46Hookups. Yeah.
- 9:47What's the word? What is the word?
- 9:49Like bumps in the road or Yeah, roadblocks, Yeah.
- 9:53Or reasons that you will like would put it off or like were
- 9:58you like I want to have a kid let's.
- 9:59No, I I definitely feel well, OK, it's funny that you should
- 10:03ask that because my husband and I were just talking.
- 10:05I was regretting. I'm like, why didn't we just get
- 10:07pregnant right when we got married?
- 10:08Because The thing is, we met at 23 and we got married at 28.
- 10:13Like, we waited a long time to get married.
- 10:15Yeah. So 28's already.
- 10:17We could have gotten pregnant. It's not that young.
- 10:19You know it's a good age to get pregnant, but.
- 10:22It seems like a baby now. Because I had babies at 44 of
- 10:26like this, that's really good. But it would have been nice
- 10:29because then I would have had longer with my kids.
- 10:32My I, I feel like there's a lot of pros to being an older mom,
- 10:35but there are some cons like my parents are getting older and
- 10:38all this stuff right? Absolutely.
- 10:39So, but he reminded me he's like, yeah, but we are on our
- 10:43own here. Our parents live in California.
- 10:45That's great. But they're two to three hours
- 10:47apart, you know, from us. Then they can't just get there.
- 10:50I can't pick up the kids from school.
- 10:51All these things. We didn't have help.
- 10:53We didn't have the resources at that time to afford help.
- 10:56They we couldn't afford to put them in the school we want them
- 10:59in or whatever. Like there's so many things that
- 11:02we didn't have a house, which it's nice that we have a house
- 11:04with a yard now, you know, different resources that.
- 11:07Need those boys to run out there.
- 11:08Yes. It's not necessary to have all
- 11:11those things. Nobody needs those.
- 11:12We grew up with like nothing. And those eight kids, we turned
- 11:15out great. But I just mean, it has been
- 11:18nicer to have the resources being a bit older, you know, so
- 11:23pros and cons. But I did, to answer your
- 11:25question, I did put it off. And that's why I sort of regret
- 11:28and and beat myself up a little because I did think, oh, my
- 11:31career, my career. And looking back, that was so
- 11:34stupid. And to anybody who's listening,
- 11:36like babies truly bring blessings.
- 11:40They make you a better person. They make you, if you're worried
- 11:42about your acting career, they make you a better actor.
- 11:44They make your time more productive because you have to
- 11:48be. You have no choice but to be
- 11:49productive and efficient. And it's not just like yourself
- 11:54anymore. You're not like, well, I'll pay
- 11:56the rent or I'll eat ramen and crackers and whatever you're
- 12:00like, oh, I have to feed and like raise this human.
- 12:06It's not just. Such a good point.
- 12:09Yeah, I got to figure it out for this.
- 12:11Other person to make money? Yeah.
- 12:14It's so true. It makes you work harder and
- 12:16smarter in in that like you're not, you know, I I remember
- 12:21doing so many things that looking back were a complete
- 12:24waste of my time, but I was doing like I used to do.
- 12:28I actually probably shouldn't say because I don't want to hurt
- 12:30anyone's feelings if they're listening, but certain acting
- 12:33things where at looking back I'm like that led to nothing.
- 12:37Yeah, you know. What I'm talking?
- 12:39Yeah, we've all been there. Been there.
- 12:41And I'm like, I would never do that now as a mom, Like never,
- 12:44you know, if they're not paying me.
- 12:47But and then by the way, as an actor, you do have to do certain
- 12:49things for free, of course, but it would be you're being more
- 12:53picky now because you're a mom, you know, you're not just saying
- 12:55yes to things that don't matter. Yeah.
- 12:58Do you feel like the point that you started your family, the
- 13:07point you were in your career when you started your family,
- 13:10were you like, how is this like momentum going to keep going?
- 13:15Were there any worries about like, yeah, so do you have to be
- 13:21a couple pregnant and then you got to do.
- 13:24All of that, A couple interesting things happen.
- 13:26That's also a good question. Basically, I started trying at
- 13:3032 to get pregnant, so which is also not that old.
- 13:34It's a good age, but we couldn't get pregnant, which is why we
- 13:37finally did IVF and then at 37 got pregnant.
- 13:40So at that point I was like, who cares?
- 13:43Like I definitely does not matter because I'm so desperate.
- 13:47But at 32, I was slightly worried because I had just
- 13:51started booking guest stars and I had really good momentum and
- 13:55I'm like, oh gosh, what is this going to do?
- 13:56And then as time went on for me not getting pregnant, I was
- 13:59like, OK, this doesn't matter. Like I kind of got to not worry
- 14:02about that First things first. But but then when I got
- 14:06pregnant, I, I felt like there was a huge shift right before
- 14:11that. So I got pregnant in 2017 and
- 14:13had the baby in 2018. So right around then, I'd say
- 14:172017, you start to notice a lot more celebrities doing TV and
- 14:22taking those jobs that used to be people, maybe you, that
- 14:26weren't celebrities, right. Like one of my really good
- 14:29friends was constantly a series regular on shows.
- 14:31All of a sudden she was being kind of demoted to guest star,
- 14:35which meant I was getting demoted to costar.
- 14:38Yeah. Like I haven't had a good guest
- 14:39star audition probably since then, you know?
- 14:43And so it just kind of was what was happening in the industry.
- 14:46And then my son, when he was born 1 1/2 years later, the
- 14:50pandemic. So then that was like railroad
- 14:53tracks to everything. And I was sort of pregnant with
- 14:56my second one at the perfect time because nothing was
- 14:58happening, right? Which is why I went into social
- 15:00media too. And.
- 15:01Now it's been just kind of crazy.
- 15:04Anything, anything can happen. Knows.
- 15:06What's happening? Yeah, but I was gonna ask you
- 15:08about the social media of it as well cuz you're very active and
- 15:13love your content and so many questions of like getting that
- 15:22started. How did you even?
- 15:25Let's start with that. Well, OK, good question.
- 15:27I had a platform kind of from Miraculous Ladybug, yes, from
- 15:33being the voice of Chloe. So I had like a small following,
- 15:36I think 5000 or something, and the pandemic happened.
- 15:40I was sort of bored here. OK, let me take a step back and
- 15:43say here's the thing. The reason I was hesitant to
- 15:45start my motherhood is because I did think once I have babies,
- 15:49that's all I'm going to do. I'm only going to want to be a
- 15:52mom. All of my desires are going to
- 15:53go away. That did not happen.
- 15:56I was afraid of that as well. I was like, if I have a kid I'm
- 15:59only going to want to stare at them and be with them all day.
- 16:02It's like, oh, turns out, I mean, yes, do also that, but I'm
- 16:09still a human and still huh, turns out moms are human.
- 16:13Interesting. And your desires for other
- 16:15things don't just go away. No, like I was, I spent 37 years
- 16:19doing creative outlets, you know, And so I really was
- 16:23starting to feel that like I need a creative outlet.
- 16:26Like I can't do theatre anymore. That's out the window.
- 16:28I love doing theatre for years, but with kids it's really
- 16:32impossible unless you're that's your job.
- 16:34Like you're a theater actress who gets paid enough to make
- 16:36that your job. Yeah, especially in LA.
- 16:38Unfortunately, usually not the case.
- 16:41It's. Usually not the case.
- 16:42It'd be great if it was. It would be in LA.
- 16:44Sadly, the theaters that pay the most, except for the Geffen and
- 16:47maybe downtown are far like Orange County, you know?
- 16:51So anyway, that was out of the question.
- 16:53And so I just, I also kind of did stand up with my first, but
- 16:56that was also hard with two. I, I did do it with two, but
- 17:00that became impossible with three.
- 17:02I was like, no, so those creative outlets were gone.
- 17:05So then I thought, gosh, I'm seeing all this mom comedy on
- 17:08social media. I love social media.
- 17:11I'm always on it anyway. I might as well start doing it.
- 17:15And I look back at my first stuff and it's very cringy and
- 17:18very like, I never took it down because it's a good reminder of
- 17:21like where you came from. But also, like I said, I had
- 17:25this platform anyway. So I'm like, I want to use that.
- 17:28And I remember telling my best friend, I'm like, I just want to
- 17:31see if I can make $10,000 this year with just social media.
- 17:35Yeah, I don't know. I don't even as somebody who
- 17:38like is has a podcast and trying to do social media, I'm like, I
- 17:44don't even like. Where do you start?
- 17:45Where do you like that's such a hard?
- 17:47Not that you have to give us a lesson, but that's such like a
- 17:50hard like it's you're, it's you're on your own and you what
- 17:55you are you just like Youtubing and Googling and like figuring
- 17:59it out on. Your just figuring out.
- 18:01I tend not to do that. I have I I but the first.
- 18:05Year, sorry to interrupt you, but the first year having 10,000
- 18:08as like you're like that is looking, I mean.
- 18:15It's a dream, big moment, I know.
- 18:17I love. This is classic me, though.
- 18:19I always do this. I'm like, I'm going to move to
- 18:21LM and be on a show. Of course it wasn't the show I
- 18:23thought I would be on a sitcom. I ended up on Miraculous, which
- 18:26is great, but it's like, you know, just changes a little.
- 18:29I did not grow as big as I I mean, I still would love to have
- 18:32grown more. I do think people that the mom
- 18:36space is hard because we have kids and we don't want to.
- 18:39I I never want it to be overshadowing them.
- 18:42Like my first priority is them, you know, but if I had done this
- 18:46before kids, that's my little like, Dang it, I could have
- 18:49probably grown faster. But anyway, it is what it is.
- 18:52But I was proud of myself because I did reach that goal of
- 18:5510,000 the first year. And my other goal was to get
- 18:5810,000 followers so that I could get.
- 19:00Remember I used to have that swipe up link if you had 10,000
- 19:03followers. Yeah.
- 19:05That was my goal too. So I got those and I was really
- 19:09happy. But I worked really hard.
- 19:11I didn't do looking back, like you said, I should have done
- 19:15more research and like maybe hired a coach.
- 19:17Or something. It seemed to work out.
- 19:19I just sort of threw spaghetti at the wall to see what stuck
- 19:22and. Did you make like did you create
- 19:27your own income through? Brand yes, So what I did was I
- 19:35just. And then did you?
- 19:36Reach out to them. I would just reach out to them
- 19:38and I did. So I shouldn't say I didn't do
- 19:41any research. I asked a few of my friends who
- 19:43were doing it like how do you do this?
- 19:44What do you do? And they kind of gave me tips
- 19:46here and there. I had this one friend send me
- 19:48like what she sends to brands and then I kind of like copied
- 19:52her media kit and made my own based on hers like that.
- 19:57And then probably about a year later, I did start to get
- 20:00serious once I started getting some money in.
- 20:02And I hired this girl who through the Internet, like I
- 20:05just saw her videos and I saw she had a social media agency.
- 20:07And I was like, I want her to help me.
- 20:10She's really funny. I'm going to see if I can hire
- 20:12her. And she took me on even though
- 20:14she never takes on. She like represents restaurants
- 20:17or whatever. You know.
- 20:17Oh, OK. Yeah, Took.
- 20:18Me on as an influencer and now we're like really good friends
- 20:22and we do all the boy mom, girl mom content together.
- 20:25Yes, yes, yes. But she's amazing and she sort
- 20:28of became a coach type person for me.
- 20:30Are you talking about Siggy? Not Siggy Lauren.
- 20:33So yeah, Sticky and I do the boy mom and stuff too.
- 20:35Yeah, but Lauren does the girl mom and Lauren, Lauren Romero at
- 20:41Lauren Romero. But she's amazing.
- 20:43And so she, that was about a year in, I started working with
- 20:45her to and she taught me so much.
- 20:48Yeah, I think like every year I've learned more.
- 20:51It just changes all the time too, because it's it's a
- 20:54changing industry. And I think actually Hollywood
- 20:58is going, you know, with the verticals and that it's just the
- 21:02same thing is going to happen. Yeah.
- 21:03So now with OK, so are you older 2IN school I've seen the
- 21:09seven-year. Oldest.
- 21:11Yeah, and how about the 2 year old?
- 21:14Is he at? He's no, no, he's still at home,
- 21:17I know. And he is going to start in the
- 21:20fall, I think. But I did finally hire a nanny
- 21:24with my third. So that was another thing too,
- 21:26because the social media kind of took off as a business like
- 21:29we're talking about. So I needed help.
- 21:31I couldn't. Again, the like growing and
- 21:33with. Yes.
- 21:34Age and more success yeah getting the resources where it's
- 21:38like OK 1/3 kid like. Yes, you need help.
- 21:43Yeah, exactly. I know and thank God I had done
- 21:46this job through social media, but it was also because I was an
- 21:49actor. Like anyway, it was a posting
- 21:51job that what paid so much that I could finally afford to hire a
- 21:57nanny, hire some help. But it was nice because I, I
- 22:00realized I'm like, I do need help with three, you know, and
- 22:03it's just, it's really hard. How?
- 22:05Did you find as a as someone who grew up with kids or who nannied
- 22:12yourself, how did you find it? Hiring someone because I feel
- 22:18strange just because and I usually just have my friend
- 22:24babysit honestly. But like we have I'm.
- 22:27Like. You can do this, but like there
- 22:30is a young girl, not that I have a nanny, but like there's a
- 22:33young girl who I'm like, well, you can babysit, but I feel like
- 22:37we're the same age and we are not.
- 22:39She's like my younger. Oh, she's.
- 22:41Like. 23 I'm like, oh, we're the same.
- 22:45So how how is it for you like hiring someone I know or like,
- 22:51have you been that far like removed from it had been so long
- 22:56since nannying that like you're like?
- 22:59No, OK, so it that's a really good I I, it has been hard
- 23:04because I think what's hard is because I'm home a lot like, you
- 23:08know, like it's awkward, like if I was going to an office.
- 23:12But now I've gotten into a rhythm.
- 23:14I actually have two different I call them mothers helpers
- 23:17because they're not really with the kids as much, but they're
- 23:20doing all the other stuff. So I have time to do my work
- 23:22when the kids are at school or sleeping, you know?
- 23:25So like this morning, for example, I'll take the baby to
- 23:28the park, but she's home doing the laundry.
- 23:31Oh I love. That though that's nice because.
- 23:34Yeah, yeah, exactly. Like, but I do think it does get
- 23:39really tricky when you have been the nanny and also you feel so
- 23:43guilty. Like I feel like I don't know
- 23:46that mom guilt is just really gets to me.
- 23:48Yeah, and isn't it strange, though, when you hire someone to
- 23:54help you and like say like I'll hire someone once in a blue moon
- 24:01to clean my apartment and I'm like, I feel like that, but it's
- 24:05like it's their job. Like I shouldn't feel weird
- 24:08about it. Like it's their job.
- 24:11Also like I don't want to make it weird but like depending on
- 24:15how I mean. Yeah, it's.
- 24:17Yeah, the whole thing is. The whole thing exactly well, it
- 24:21depends it the girl. So the two mothers helpers the
- 24:24one does Monday Tuesday one does Wednesday Thursday, the
- 24:26Wednesday Thursday is really young 22 and I stopped hiring
- 24:31young people because I felt weird about asking them to do
- 24:33like my laundry and fold my underwear.
- 24:36You know, like I was like, oh, but I, you reach a point where I
- 24:40just have like a she's amazing, by the way.
- 24:42Like she's just one of those hard, hard workers and she's
- 24:46putting herself through nursing school.
- 24:47Like she's just incredible. And I said to her, I'm like,
- 24:50listen, this is the job. Like, I'm not gonna hold back
- 24:53and tell you what you're gonna need to do.
- 24:54Well, yeah. And it's like, as long as they
- 24:56know, like, yeah, straight out the bat, it's not like, oh, hey,
- 25:00come watch my kids. And they're like, actually, can
- 25:02you? Fold my underwear.
- 25:03You have to be straight out. Exactly.
- 25:05Yeah, from the beginning, this is.
- 25:07And that was a mistake I made in the past with younger people
- 25:10because I didn't know what I needed.
- 25:11And so I'd be like, I'm going to be late.
- 25:13Can you do this? And and then they would get
- 25:15resentful because they're like, that's not in my job
- 25:17description. You know, I was just babysitting
- 25:18and playing with your kid, you know, like, OK, never mind.
- 25:21Another good thing with comes with age.
- 25:23Exactly. Just being able to.
- 25:25Do that. Do that.
- 25:26Yeah, that's true. I'm going to pause us and just
- 25:28make sure we're. I know.
- 25:30Oh gosh, we'll do it all over again.
- 25:35Yay. OK, but that is a good and yes,
- 25:39all right. Reset, reset.
- 25:46OK, can I ask, so you're home and mostly working from home and
- 25:50stuff. What does your can I?
- 25:52What does your husband do? Yeah, he, it's very odd career.
- 25:55It's he's a hotel broker. OK, but he's not at home.
- 25:59No, he's not home, thank God. That was hard in the pandemic
- 26:03when everyone like. But you made it through.
- 26:06We made it. We only had 1 1/2 kids at that
- 26:09point. The baby doesn't have no.
- 26:12I don't know how people did it with kids like my age, the kids
- 26:15I have now, I mean, if they were home for two years like that,
- 26:18that's insane. I know.
- 26:20Well, isn't it awful because I didn't have my daughter when my
- 26:27sister had younger kids when the pandemic happened.
- 26:31So they were like 1 was I guess just like 1.
- 26:36And the other one was like in like kindergarten doing like
- 26:40schooling stuff too. And I was like, oh, I really
- 26:43should have checked on you more like, and it's like, you don't
- 26:46know what you don't know. I feel the same way of like all
- 26:49my friends who had kids way before me and I'm like you guys
- 26:52did all this and weren't like, I mean I was like Oh my God and
- 26:58you've done it how many times? I was like some of you got like
- 27:024 kids. I was like, wait, what?
- 27:05I know I'm so blessed because my best friend had kids before me.
- 27:09Actually, both of my best friends did.
- 27:11And so they, like, spoiled me when I had my baby, you know?
- 27:14Yeah, that's so great. But I did nothing for them I
- 27:17think. No, you're like, I'll just reap
- 27:19the benefits of you guys already being yeah moms.
- 27:22Oh, my gosh. OK, so your husband's hotel.
- 27:25Broker, yes. So he sells hotels, I think big
- 27:29fancy hotels not, but yeah, that's his, that's his career,
- 27:32which is good. One of us needs a normal job.
- 27:34How did you? Guys, I know, right?
- 27:36Isn't that like I'm always like? Although.
- 27:39Didn't intend on marrying an actor.
- 27:41You know what though, it's good and bad.
- 27:42There's pros and cons to everything cuz I have.
- 27:44Right. So I'm curious, yeah, what?
- 27:47What are? Those pros and cons for you
- 27:48guys? Yeah, because I see a lot of my
- 27:50actor friends who are married to actors or people in the industry
- 27:53that maybe they work, you know, six months and then they have
- 27:55six months off. What's hard with kids is like, I
- 27:58can't rely on him. It's just I cannot ask him to
- 28:02pick up kids from school and he cannot leave the office, you
- 28:05know, like he is there from pretty much 8 to 8.
- 28:08Like, it's not like, yeah, yeah. So I'm.
- 28:12Like, Oh my God, which is. All.
- 28:13Real. Well, and by the way, that was
- 28:16with baby #3 he switched job basically, not to give you his
- 28:20whole career summary, but because the pandemic and he was
- 28:23home, he could stop and help me put him to bed or whatever.
- 28:26But then when he went back to the office and got this other
- 28:28new job, he was completely unavailable.
- 28:31And that's when I realized with baby #3 I'm like, I need help.
- 28:33Like I can't do this. This is killing me.
- 28:35Even if I didn't have outside ambitions, which I did.
- 28:38I can't, yeah, I can't imagine. Yeah, so it's just a lot of solo
- 28:42parenting. He travels a lot too, and when
- 28:45he's home, he's amazing. It is what it is.
- 28:47That's his job, you know? Well, and I can't imagine people
- 28:50who have both parents I know like that, which is most people
- 28:56aren't in. Yeah, yeah, which is just wild.
- 28:59It is such a blessing to have careers like ours where you it's
- 29:04a. Little more flexible.
- 29:06Yeah, it's very flexible. But then again, yeah, pros and
- 29:09cons. There's pros and cons.
- 29:10It's obviously you can't rely on this study income, whatever, but
- 29:13it's also like they could be there and help with bedtime
- 29:16every night, you know, whatever. Yeah, that'd.
- 29:18Be great. Yeah, OK, so going back to you
- 29:21starting to make your own content and that first year
- 29:25really hitting those goals for yourself.
- 29:30How has it been like since then being able like now having three
- 29:36and like keeping up with it? I'm like, I can barely do any.
- 29:40Like I can barely do an Instagram story and my kids and
- 29:43I got 1 and she's at school all day.
- 29:44I'm like, how do you keep up with the creative side, but also
- 29:50like the energy and like when you do it, like do you have a
- 29:56schedule to yourself for yourself?
- 29:58Do you? Yeah.
- 30:00Pretty much what? Do you, what do I do?
- 30:02I know it's hard. I try to post every day and I
- 30:06try to batch content so that it's like ready to go, but then
- 30:09things change other, you know, whatever.
- 30:12And the other thing that I really get behind on and I would
- 30:15love to find someone to help me with is the editing, 'cause I'll
- 30:18have all of the content on my phone.
- 30:21Yeah, just like I need someone to go in my brain and know how
- 30:23to edit this. You know, that's really hard,
- 30:26but you just do it. I feel like I've got I, I get
- 30:29into a rhythm where I'm like, you know, edit three reels and
- 30:33then they're ready for the next three days.
- 30:34I wish I could be even farther ahead, but I'm not a lot.
- 30:38And then I also to stay on top of it.
- 30:40Like with Siggy, for example, we'll schedule a con or Lauren,
- 30:43we'll do content shoots where we shoot like four or five reels.
- 30:47So I know I have something ready to go for the next month at
- 30:49least. Well, and that's nice because as
- 30:52you have other people that benefit from it and that are
- 30:55also like proactive with it as well 'cause that's where I start
- 31:02going. I'm like, oh, it's just.
- 31:03Me. And I feel stupid doing things
- 31:08by myself, but it's like, you can't.
- 31:09I mean, you just, if that's what you want to do, you just kind
- 31:12of. You gotta just do it well, and
- 31:15it is true when I was doing it by myself because remember the
- 31:18collab thing on Instagram didn't start until what, like a year?
- 31:22Maybe. Yeah, it seems pretty recent.
- 31:23A year and a half, I don't know. Very recent.
- 31:26So you're right. I was by myself for a long time.
- 31:28Oh, I did have. I forgot about this in the
- 31:31beginning when I first was starting to do this, I had this
- 31:33amazing babysitter who just was like young and understood social
- 31:38media way more than I did. Oh, that's nice.
- 31:40And she taught me so much. Aubrey, if you're listening,
- 31:43it's you. And she was just so good at
- 31:46editing and everything. So she would shoot me while she
- 31:48was babysitting and perfect later like I would I would pay
- 31:53her to edit later but she because she was shooting it she
- 31:56knew what she was editing which was so helpful.
- 31:59So I'm trying to convince her to come back but but I'm like you
- 32:03don't have to do the babysitting part just shoot me and edit me.
- 32:06Yeah, that's nice. Yeah, that's always nice that.
- 32:08Was great. That helped me learn too.
- 32:10So then when she couldn't work for me, she'd got another job.
- 32:13Then I knew what to do. You know what I mean?
- 32:14It like it set me up for it was almost like having a coach a
- 32:17little bit. Do you?
- 32:19I would assume it helps the like energy and like the actual doing
- 32:29of it if you're getting paid or like if yeah, cuz not, I mean,
- 32:35obviously not all of your content is branding content for
- 32:39sure, but like I assume that that helps where you can.
- 32:44Do you think of it now more as an an actual job as opposed to
- 32:49just like it's doing this to do it?
- 32:51Yes, exactly. It's my job.
- 32:53And the thing about the money aspect is really interesting
- 32:56because now I'm monetizing from views so I don't have to do
- 33:01brand deals because actually I love brand deals, especially if
- 33:04I'm obsessed with the product already.
- 33:06But if I'm not obsessed with it, like the, it's a new company,
- 33:09for example, sends me something I've never heard of.
- 33:11It's not that I'm not into it. I actually don't ever say yes if
- 33:14I don't think I'll be into it, right.
- 33:15But that being said, it's very hard to like come up with a
- 33:19concept. It's like you're the marketing
- 33:21department, you're the writer, you're the editor, you're the
- 33:23book. It's really hard.
- 33:25But when you're just doing comedy and then you get paid
- 33:27because your views, that's so much more fun.
- 33:30That's so interesting. And now there's so many other
- 33:33ways to monetize through links, through TikTok shop I'm on, and
- 33:38all these other monetizing on Facebook and YouTube and you
- 33:41know, all these things. I'm gonna have to, yeah, give me
- 33:44a master class. Give you a master class.
- 33:46Somebody said they're like you should teach a master class like
- 33:48do. AI mean right?
- 33:49I feel like there's so many. People that have done that, but
- 33:51yeah, it's, it's really true that it's more fun to do it when
- 33:55it's not like a brand collab per SE, because there's just, I feel
- 33:59like there's more pressure on a brick club.
- 34:01Like, you gotta get this right, you know, to.
- 34:02Get all the the keywords. Exactly.
- 34:05Yeah, they send all the brief and you're like, OK, I could do
- 34:08it. Yeah, without, like, sounding
- 34:11like a robot because there are a few people.
- 34:13When you watch, you're like, oh, you're reading or.
- 34:16Exactly. Or for me like to commercially
- 34:20as an actor, that was really hard.
- 34:21I still look at some of my stuff and like, oh, I was way too
- 34:24much. Like I'm in a commercial, you
- 34:26know I'm telling you. That, yeah, it's, I mean that's
- 34:29hard cuz I mean, it is a commercial, but it's not.
- 34:32And then and getting your followers, I mean, just to trust
- 34:37you to know that like, hey, my followers are actually gonna
- 34:41like click on this and like use it cuz they trust you.
- 34:46Which is, which is. Key cuz there are some people I
- 34:50can follow and be like, oh, they're gonna like try and sell
- 34:55like something that's crazy expensive or like that doesn't
- 34:59actually work where it's like as opposed to like people that you
- 35:02feel like you can trust and like.
- 35:05That's it's so true. Well, and helpful actually.
- 35:08That is why. So Amazon, being an Amazon
- 35:11influencer has been a game changer for most influencers
- 35:15because now we could just post things we actually use.
- 35:18Like I put something up this morning.
- 35:19I'm like, I love stuff like I just poured in my coffee.
- 35:22Yeah, right. Like I actually use this
- 35:24everyday and you should too because it's awesome, you know,
- 35:27Whereas sometimes you're like, I think you'll use this.
- 35:31It seems really cool, maybe I don't.
- 35:37OK, so have you always done voice over also?
- 35:41Yes, so my voice over career was interesting because I I had like
- 35:4580 jobs in college, like being Annie was one of them.
- 35:47But I also taught singing lessons at this music school.
- 35:51So one of my students, he was like probably 40.
- 35:54Like, at the time, I thought he was so old, you know, like this
- 35:57older guy, he had owned a recording studio and he wanted
- 36:02to learn singing. So I was teaching him singing
- 36:05and he said, hey, would you ever want to come in and dub anime?
- 36:08Because I get I have a contract with this anime production
- 36:11company and it's in Japanese, and you could dub it into
- 36:14English for me, be one of the actors.
- 36:16And I was like, yeah, that sounds so fun.
- 36:18I didn't even know it was going to be paid.
- 36:20Like that sounds really cool, but it was paid.
- 36:22It was awesome. Then from there I got all kinds
- 36:25of other little voice over jobs. They were all non union.
- 36:27You know, I'm in college through him and then I made a reel with
- 36:31him. So when I moved to Lai, sent it
- 36:34like word of mouth asked like who should I send it to?
- 36:37Send it to a couple agencies and got represented right away.
- 36:41Oh, that's amazing. And then I didn't book anything,
- 36:43of course, at all. Yeah, for like 3 years, yes.
- 36:47And we, I got dropped. So that was like, OK, then flash
- 36:51forward, I think I got another agent.
- 36:53Same thing got dropped then. And these were big agents.
- 36:57So then years, a few years past maybe, I don't know, I sent my
- 37:01demo to a friend who is writing on an animation and she said
- 37:05I'll give it to the director. She did.
- 37:08He cast me for like the small part in this.
- 37:10It was a dubbing show as he knew I dubbed and that director
- 37:15called me in a few years later to audition for Miraculous,
- 37:18another dub show, and I booked it.
- 37:22But we all thought it was just like another pilot that was just
- 37:25going to go nowhere, you know, It blew up like it was crazy.
- 37:29We had no idea. So it was really, I had no agent
- 37:32that whole time. It was just word of mouth and
- 37:35giving my demo to whoever would listen, I mean.
- 37:37Yeah, it just kind of. Yeah, but voiceover for me has
- 37:41been tricky because I think first of all, I have so many
- 37:45baskets that I didn't put all my eggs in it, you know.
- 37:49And so, I mean, it's like it's very voiceover is one of those
- 37:53things you have to only focus on that if that's what you want to
- 37:56do. There's just too many people and
- 37:58there's the same people playing most of the roles.
- 38:02So, and they can because they're amazing.
- 38:04And you don't know who's playing it because it's voiceover.
- 38:07So and by the way, AI is going to shake things up even more.
- 38:10Like who knows what's going to happen?
- 38:12So I did not put on my eggs in that basket.
- 38:14I did end up getting wrapped by WME, booked one thing with them,
- 38:19and then two years later got dropped by them too.
- 38:21So I think if I would have tried, but you still have
- 38:24Miraculous. I still have Miraculous and I
- 38:26still get booked like I did a commercial for someone recently.
- 38:29And yeah, I people just randomly reach out to me from time to
- 38:33time. Like I need to say my voice is
- 38:34also very specific. Yeah, I don't have those one of
- 38:38those voices that can do 30 million voices like I just do
- 38:4110. Yeah, I don't know how people
- 38:43do. I know all of those.
- 38:46I mean, yeah, the terror strongs, she's phenomenal.
- 38:50Like she's so good. So I don't know, I got lucky,
- 38:54let's just put it that way. Yeah yeah, I mean that's that's
- 38:57great cuz most people don't get that in like acting or voice
- 39:03over or anything. So just to get it once is great.
- 39:07Totally. OK, so did you OK, so not Oh
- 39:14gosh, I'm like 75, almost five and two.
- 39:19I'm just trying to think of like, how do you balance your
- 39:24time between the three because have you I mean, I feel like
- 39:32there's probably not an actual balance that is just a day by
- 39:35day. Well, what do you?
- 39:37That is a good question. And actually, that's what I
- 39:39meant to say earlier with them with the posting every day.
- 39:42And then I think lately I have been more like, OK, especially
- 39:47with summer, right? Like you want to spend time with
- 39:49the kids and this is you only get whatever they say 17
- 39:52summers. And you know, it's so sad.
- 39:53And then when they're teenagers, they're not going to want to
- 39:55hang out with you. So I'm trying to be like, it's
- 39:59OK if I don't post every day. It's OK if I miss a day of doing
- 40:03my links or whatever. Like it does not matter.
- 40:05Thank God we are blessed enough to be in a situation where the
- 40:08money. Isn't going to make or break us.
- 40:11My husband has a real job. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:13But I also realized when I was talking to my friend about this,
- 40:16when I sometimes, because it's not a nine to five where I go
- 40:20into the office and I'm sort of doing it in the cracks, it can
- 40:23shift my focus where I'm like with the kids.
- 40:25But I'm thinking about what I need to do or how I could do
- 40:28this edit better or whatever, instead of being like leaving
- 40:32the work in the office. That's what's really hard.
- 40:34And so I'm trying to be better about that, especially leaving
- 40:37the phone in the other room, which is hard because I want to
- 40:40take pictures or whatever. Like, yeah, she's a real camera
- 40:43anyway, that's another subject. But yeah, like, it's really hard
- 40:47to to split the focus. And I'm really trying to work on
- 40:50that to stay present and to really love these moments with
- 40:54them. Because at the end of the day,
- 40:55when I'm on my deathbed, I'm not going to be thinking, boy, I'm
- 40:58so glad I got that brand deal or I'm so glad I reached 100K.
- 41:01Like, yeah, it's not going to matter, you know, but.
- 41:06But it is hard because it does matter in the moment.
- 41:08Like now with like, yeah, I mean just like having an income and
- 41:14all that. But.
- 41:15But I do understand what you're saying, especially because like
- 41:19your content being a lot about being a mom, like shifting that
- 41:26of like, oh, this could be good content.
- 41:30Like. Your kids because you don't.
- 41:32I mean, you share. Yeah, I was like you share,
- 41:35you've shared your kids, but not like.
- 41:38In the social. Media way like yeah, not in
- 41:42like. They're not doing TikTok dances.
- 41:44Yeah, yeah. First of all, they don't want
- 41:46to. Like, I don't know how these
- 41:49families, like you see the family Instagramers seems like I
- 41:52do not know how they do that. I don't.
- 41:54I physically can't even do it. If I try like they won't do it.
- 41:57I mean go for them. I feel like if your kid enjoys,
- 42:01I don't know, I'm split. You see these families, they're
- 42:04like 5-6, seven kids and they're all like in the same outfit
- 42:07doing this. Where would I tell him even if I
- 42:09want this? I'm kind of like, what's going
- 42:12on? I know it's.
- 42:13What's going on there? I mean, if it's if it's working
- 42:16for you and it's and everyone's totally well and happy, great,
- 42:19that's amazing. But are they?
- 42:21Are they? There are.
- 42:22Times no judgement no. Judgement, but really no.
- 42:25And I used to listen like I was that mom when they were little.
- 42:29You'll go back in my feed. You can see I used them all all
- 42:31the time in sketches, but then they reached an age like 3 where
- 42:34they're like, they have the choice.
- 42:36I'm not doing it. And I'm like, OK, like I didn't
- 42:38feel like I could force them. That's crazy.
- 42:40Now I do sometimes. Like my friend was just laughing
- 42:43because I was on another podcast.
- 42:45Anyway, I forgot he was. I'm like, who's asking me that?
- 42:48But they basically, we did get a vacation like pay for I know.
- 42:53So I'm like, you guys just jump. OK, just jump.
- 42:56That's all I'm asking so I can have a transition.
- 42:59So they did the jump. But in the video you'll see if
- 43:02you go back and look the my oldest is just like bad, you
- 43:05know, attitude barely Hobbs barely jumps at all like lazy
- 43:09body. You know that's good for him.
- 43:11I'm like, whatever, I'm cared for him.
- 43:14It's so funny, hilarious. But that's so nice that like
- 43:19you're having those opportunities, yes, and you can
- 43:23share those things regardless. Of thing, I'm like, you guys
- 43:26just jump for a second, one second.
- 43:28I could take you to Lego for free.
- 43:32I know, right? Isn't it?
- 43:33That's like, what's the caveat? It is the caveat, and I try not
- 43:37to do that anymore. Like, yeah, like you said, I
- 43:39rarely do use them. I'll share them.
- 43:41And my stories are like, oh, they graduated kindergarten or
- 43:44whatever. But like, I, I don't know.
- 43:46I feel bad. Like I feel guilty because I
- 43:48know they don't want to do it. So I really try not to if I can.
- 43:52Sometimes they do want to, by the way.
- 43:55They're done. Yeah.
- 43:56Yeah. There have been a few times
- 43:58where like my oldest is obsessed with Legos and he'll be like,
- 44:01come on, make a video and put it on YouTube about how I took this
- 44:03Lego. You know, like even like show
- 44:05off about. I'm like, OK, now you want to be
- 44:07on. Yeah, I mean, isn't it funny too
- 44:09how kids will be so many kids now?
- 44:13They'll be like take a video of me and they're like, I know.
- 44:16So today I'm doing like and subscribe and you're like.
- 44:19No, I know. Don't.
- 44:21Like why are you have? Like, good for you, I know.
- 44:24It's so funny and strange and strange, I know, but it is.
- 44:28I'm so glad though, all that said that I did do all those
- 44:31videos when they're babies because it's like a personal
- 44:34scrapbook like and now they go and ask me.
- 44:38They're like show us our videos. So I go and I actually hit them
- 44:42all on TikTok because I didn't know if TikTok was going away.
- 44:45So they're like in my archive. So I'm showing them all on my
- 44:48private TikTok and they just love them.
- 44:51It's really cute, so. Fun.
- 44:53Have they showed any interest in like?
- 44:56Not really. I know which is good probably,
- 44:59but it's also like just do one commercial you can make it.
- 45:04To right yeah, yeah, that's hard cuz it's like if your kid can if
- 45:08they enjoy it and they can make money or if it's like before
- 45:11they're older. Before they know the difference
- 45:13exactly. And they can make the money and
- 45:15put it away and all that. We like kind of tried that.
- 45:20They didn't book anything. But.
- 45:22But now it's like at the age where like, yeah, she has her
- 45:25own I. Know you can't make them.
- 45:27For sure and I'm like, was she cuz our agents would like yeah,
- 45:31my give us stuff and I was like, not like just not gonna do it.
- 45:35I was like, she. I'm not gonna update her picture
- 45:38until like at this point I'm like, I'll wait until she.
- 45:42Wants to now, I guess I do have them all up with my agent and I
- 45:46put their I do do head shots with them only because it's it's
- 45:50cute and it's with my guy who's like super cheap and I can knock
- 45:53him out. But I mica my middle one is the
- 45:57one that kind of he just like kind of goes along and and does
- 46:01ham it up a little. So I think he might be a little
- 46:03interesting, but he doesn't like but so he actually enjoys it or
- 46:06he at least doesn't hate it, but like as well.
- 46:09My oldest hates it and ironically, everybody loves him.
- 46:14They call him back every time. He has this amazing voice and
- 46:18smile and personality. Smart as a whip.
- 46:20He had this bold and beautiful audition.
- 46:22He memorized my part and his part, it was 5 pages like in a
- 46:25second. I mean, he's crazy smart.
- 46:26It's crazy. So I'm like, oh, you don't know
- 46:30what a gift you have. And he's like, I don't want to
- 46:32do it. And I'm like, you get off
- 46:34school, you get all the snacks you want.
- 46:36And he was like, OK, I'll go. He's like, can I drink
- 46:41Coca-Cola? I'm like, yeah, probably.
- 46:43I mean, I'll still be there on set with you, but yes.
- 46:45Oh my God, that's so funny. I love it.
- 46:48It's. So funny, but he'll probably
- 46:50not. I mean, I'm sure he will not
- 46:51want to do it but. Well, and that's the thing with
- 46:53like both you, like you and your husband like having different
- 46:58career paths. It's like, yeah, they can do
- 47:01whatever they want. It's nice to for them to see you
- 47:04and like you can do. Like.
- 47:07This and be creative and follow your dreams and all this and
- 47:10then also you can do whatever you want.
- 47:14It's like you can have a yeah, it's nice that they can see.
- 47:17Yes. Oh my.
- 47:18It can be a normal. It can be a normal human.
- 47:20It's so true, yeah. It's good to have the options
- 47:23and to which. All kids do, but.
- 47:26Yeah. Nice for them to see you with
- 47:28both parents. Exactly.
- 47:30And I don't know about you, but like, my parents weren't in the
- 47:33industry, so they didn't know what to advise me or, you know,
- 47:37like, I had no idea, moved here not knowing anyone, you know,
- 47:40except my best friends. But like, it wasn't like they
- 47:44knew to say, hey, go take these casting workshops and get your
- 47:47headshot done with this person. Yeah.
- 47:48But if they are kids, well, no, you'll have a little leg up in
- 47:52that way if they want to do it, you know.
- 47:54So that's nice, that. Is nice.
- 47:55Well, you've obviously said about like the having kids
- 47:59definitely only like enhances you as an as a person and
- 48:03creator and actor and all the things.
- 48:07What would you say to somebody who is younger and in the
- 48:12industry thinking of starting a family but worried it will like
- 48:18hold them back? What do you?
- 48:19Think do it, don't worry about it like that is my biggest
- 48:23regret. And again, there were a lot of
- 48:24things out of my control that, you know, but I just feel like
- 48:29you just makes you such a bigger, better person.
- 48:34Yeah, a fuller person. The things I used to obsess over
- 48:38with acting me, it was my whole world.
- 48:40And it's silly to me now that it was.
- 48:42I book all the time since having kids.
- 48:45All the time, actually. My booking ratio went way up
- 48:47since having kids because you don't have that when you come
- 48:51into an audition remote. Granted, everything is on tape
- 48:53now, but when we used to go in, I didn't, they couldn't smell
- 48:56the desperation anymore because it wasn't there.
- 48:59I didn't have it. I have something else I care way
- 49:01more about, you know, like. You just like after this
- 49:04audition, I'm not going to think about it.
- 49:06I have. I don't have time to think about
- 49:07it. Exactly.
- 49:09Whereas before I, I mean, it was crazy how much of it controlled
- 49:13me, you know, So I just, yeah, I would say do it.
- 49:16And also because we had such a trouble getting pregnant.
- 49:20I, I think like I tell every young person this go to a
- 49:23reproductive specialist, get checked out.
- 49:26Don't assume you're going to be fertile, Myrtle.
- 49:29Yeah, yeah, it's hard. You think like, you know, all
- 49:34these people, like you think it'll be easy.
- 49:38And then sometimes you think it'll be hard and then you never
- 49:41know which one you're going to, which one you're going to get.
- 49:44Because I had asked like my doctor before even ever trying.
- 49:48I was like, am I going to be able to do this?
- 49:51They're like, have you tried? And I'm like, no.
- 49:54And they're like, well, why don't you try it?
- 49:55I was. Like no, no, no.
- 49:56Yeah. So yeah, you never know.
- 49:59But yeah, looking back, being like, I do see what people do it
- 50:02young, where you're talking about like the timeline of
- 50:05everything, where you're like, Oh, my parents are getting old
- 50:08and. And then you don't get to be a
- 50:11mom as long. That's the other thing.
- 50:13Like, I know it's kind of sad. Who was it?
- 50:16Somebody was telling me recently that somebody was a grandma and
- 50:22they were like 50. And I was like, what?
- 50:24I was like, that seems. I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 50:26I was like, that's disturbing. And then I was like, wait, no,
- 50:29both people would be some like appropriate age.
- 50:33That's totally. Totally.
- 50:35Fine, but it seems. I know.
- 50:38Yeah, right. My own grandma was a grandma at
- 50:4146. I know because she started
- 50:44getting my brothers got pregnant.
- 50:46Really. Yeah, it's like, I mean, but
- 50:48then you're like, what? You get to see you could be a
- 50:51great grandparent. And it's like, oh, I don't, I'm
- 50:54not. Going to Oh yeah, I should have
- 50:55said my great grandma was a great no, she's grandma at 44.
- 50:58And then, yeah, great grandma at 64.
- 51:00That's crazy. I think it was.
- 51:02Yeah, yeah, yeah. So start young.
- 51:04Start. Yeah, I plant the seeds, by the
- 51:06way. I'm always like with my boys.
- 51:08I'm like, so if you want mommy to help you with your kids one
- 51:10day, better get married at 23, have babies by 25.
- 51:15That's hilarious. Like, okay.
- 51:18Like can you please? I should do a real about that.
- 51:20That's so. Funny like you.
- 51:23Can meet someone young, you know.
- 51:26Don't have to wait. Like introducing them on the
- 51:28playground. I know.
- 51:30Oh my gosh. That's, that's OK.
- 51:32So my final question for you is since you you seem to have it
- 51:36all together. So what has been your life?
- 51:40I do not. Well, you look good and.
- 51:43You look like you got it. What has been your lifesaver at
- 51:47the moment, like a product or a mantra or what is just getting
- 51:52you through? The day, well, I am a very OK
- 51:57well, there's a few things. Yeah, go for it.
- 51:59I'm a very spiritual person. I, I definitely have been trying
- 52:04to get back to doing my prayer and devotional in the morning
- 52:08just to like connect. I'm not good at it.
- 52:10So sorry. I should have said at night
- 52:12because I was trying to do it in the morning and I'm not a
- 52:15morning person. And I'm like, I just have to
- 52:17lean into that like why am I trying to do this?
- 52:19It's not going to happen. So at night, if I if I do it at
- 52:22night, at least I can like kind of connect and sleep on it.
- 52:26And then I I don't know, I'm trying to like, like I said,
- 52:30like really stay present and just not worry so much about did
- 52:34this get done to this, you know, and that's really I do know the
- 52:37enneagram at. All yes.
- 52:39I'm really into that I. Forget what my number is.
- 52:42OK, I'll have to look. Again, I'd be so curious.
- 52:45Wait. Well, I'm A7 surprise surprise
- 52:48God 7 is the enthusiast. Oh.
- 52:50Backtracks and they don't like, like, that's why I have too many
- 52:54baskets, you know, like, And that's where you have to stay
- 52:57present. Sevens never stay present.
- 52:58They're always looking forward. FOMO is a big one, like fear of
- 53:02missing out. So yeah, I need to stay present.
- 53:05My name actually means pause and like and reflect.
- 53:09Oh. Interesting.
- 53:11It's a meditation term in the Bible.
- 53:13You just have to like, say your name.
- 53:15I know and I never do. I love it.
- 53:17Like all over the place. So yeah, that's that's what I'm
- 53:19working. On Yeah, well, that's, I mean,
- 53:22there's always, it's always like the we're doing our best.
- 53:26That's what I like to say. We're doing our best and we need
- 53:28to give ourselves grace. Yes.
- 53:30In all aspects so. True.
- 53:34It is so true, yes. Well, I feel like I could talk
- 53:37to you for I'm like, can we just like double our time?
- 53:40Here, Yeah, we should do a joint with me and Siggy.
- 53:43Siggy had. So much fun.
- 53:44So Oh my gosh, I know what I was like.
- 53:46I should, I told her. I was like I should have just
- 53:48had you 2 on it. I should have sat over there and
- 53:50just like. We're.
- 53:52Crazy. Just like talk about.
- 53:55This question. And that is a look into Mommy
- 54:00Wood. Thank you so much to my guest
