- 0:00There is an apocryphal story involving the mother, a sodic,
- 0:04and a Bullock. The sodic complained that the
- 0:08Bullock was being obstinate and not cooperating.
- 0:11The mother asked the sodic to bring the Bullock so she could
- 0:14observe it. After doing so, she indicated
- 0:18there was nothing wrong with the Bullock.
- 0:21She advised the sodic that the bullock's obstinacy was related
- 0:24to something inward the sodic needed to address, and she
- 0:28counselled patience, understanding, and goodwill.
- 0:33The Sadiq and the Bullock both benefited.
- 0:37The vital ego, when it is put in charge of a project or
- 0:41supervising or managing the activities of people, frequently
- 0:45tries to assert itself and exercise a form of power over
- 0:50others, which can lead to some rough handling of others.
- 0:54Particularly when this ego aligns with the mental nature
- 0:57that believes it knows better than others what to do and how
- 1:00to do it, there can arise a certain narrowness and intensity
- 1:05that creates a difficult working environment.
- 1:09This can take on a certain harshness and oppressiveness,
- 1:12which in the long run is not helpful.
- 1:16It is best to find ways to encourage, to support and guide
- 1:20in a positive manner, and only to exercise anything more
- 1:25intense than that when absolutely needed to preserve
- 1:29the integrity of the project. This does not mean, however,
- 1:34that individual variances and method are processed by
- 1:37individuals need to be discouraged.
- 1:40On the contrary, as long as the work is done, and done in a
- 1:45reasonable fashion, these individual activities provide
- 1:49those doing the work a means of gaining their own knowledge and
- 1:53learning, growing and developing their own insights and power of
- 1:58action. In many cases, one finds that
- 2:01the people actually doing the work, with this amount of
- 2:04flexibility and freedom of action, may find ways to enhance
- 2:09and improve upon the work. And certainly the working
- 2:12environment is more conducive to harmony and collaboration than
- 2:17in a tightly controlled and discipline centered management
- 2:21process. Srioro Bindo writes quote to
- 2:26take advantage of what is good in others, keeping one's eye
- 2:30always on that, and to deal tactfully with their mistakes,
- 2:35faults and defects is the best way.
- 2:39It does not exclude firmness and maintenance of discipline, even
- 2:43severity, when severity is due. But the latter should be rare
- 2:49and the other should not feel it as if it were a permanent
- 2:52attitude. End Quote Reference Sri Oruvindu
