- 0:01Speaker 1: People are scared and they're confused and they're reaching for
- 0:06Speaker 1: what I call our true humanity. Like E.T. was reaching
- 0:11Speaker 1: for home. Within us is the real knowing of who
- 0:16Speaker 1: we as human beings are and we're trying to be that.
- 0:25Speaker 1: That these things that are part of our very being
- 0:30Speaker 1: If we can understand that you take what you have
- 0:33Speaker 1: and you use what you have and make the most
- 0:37Speaker 1: of it, just make do. And it's been such a
- 0:42Speaker 1: helpful thing. You take what you have and you make do.
- 0:48Speaker 2: You've shared your whole career, beautiful and radical ideas. This
- 0:52Speaker 2: notion that medicine can be flipped from killing to living,
- 0:56Speaker 2: that we could put love in the center of it
- 0:59Speaker 2: and we could recognize that The healing comes from the inside.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I think these messages are just transcendent.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And not be afraid of love. It's the very essence
- 1:09Speaker 1: of our being. And if we can accept it and
- 1:13Speaker 1: share it and not try to, you know, you can't
- 1:16Speaker 1: save it. It's an energy. You don't save energy. You
- 1:20Speaker 1: have to use it. If you don't use it, it dies.
- 1:25Speaker 1: That life really, really needs to reach out to other people.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And we need to understand how life gets stuck. Try
- 1:37Speaker 1: to find joy and happiness. Find something that makes you laugh.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Really gutting laugh. Not something mean, but something that really
- 1:51Speaker 1: makes you feel like, oh, that's really, really funny. And
- 1:58Speaker 1: look for that kind of of reality in your lives.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And then spend time looking for what I call the light.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I kind of see myself walking along with a flashlight
- 2:11Speaker 1: in the dark on my path, and it's dark, and
- 2:14Speaker 1: I can just go as far as my flashlight takes me.
- 2:18Speaker 1: But as I'm walking along, sometimes on the side of
- 2:23Speaker 1: the path there's a light that is not very bright.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It's just kind of shimmering. If I shine my light
- 2:30Speaker 1: over there, all of a sudden that light becomes great.
- 2:35Speaker 1: In other words, as we reach out for each other,
- 2:41Speaker 1: as we're walking along and we see someone else who's struggling,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and we reach over just with whatever we have, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: my mother's make-do, whatever is there, whatever the opportunity is,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and you use it, and you work forward with it,
- 3:02Speaker 1: you're helping people in ways that you know not. See,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I've come up with what I call five L's. The
- 3:16Speaker 1: first one is life and love. Without life, there's nothing,
- 3:22Speaker 1: you know. You can be a seed in the Great Pyramid,
- 3:27Speaker 1: for 5,000 years and nothing happens until love, which is
- 3:32Speaker 1: light and water and so on, softens the shell and
- 3:38Speaker 1: the seed opens up and it grows. Life and love
- 3:44Speaker 1: are one unit. They work together. It's like a pregnancy.
- 3:50Speaker 1: When a mother is pregnant, she and that baby are
- 3:54Speaker 1: one unit. What she eats, the baby eats. What she thinks,
- 3:58Speaker 1: the baby thinks. It's a constant process. But that aspect
- 4:04Speaker 1: of reality that is that baby that is being nurtured
- 4:08Speaker 1: and grown within the womb doesn't really find its own
- 4:15Speaker 1: identity until it takes its first breath. And then... It
- 4:21Speaker 1: becomes who it is. It takes the reason why it's
- 4:24Speaker 1: coming into this earth. So it's this reality that life
- 4:28Speaker 1: and love are one unit and that as we work
- 4:33Speaker 1: with each other that way, we can really understand aspects
- 4:38Speaker 1: of ourselves, but aspects of the world around us and
- 4:41Speaker 1: aspects of other people too. The third one was laughter. Laughter.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Laughter without love is cruel. It's mean. It takes families apart.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It has caused wars, you know. Laughter can be cruel.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But laughter with love is joy and happiness. The fourth
- 5:06Speaker 1: L is labor. Labor without love is drudgery. You just
- 5:13Speaker 1: got to go to work. You just got to do this.
- 5:18Speaker 1: But labor with love is bliss. It's why we singers sing,
- 5:25Speaker 1: why painters paint. It's why I do what I do.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It's why you do what you do. It's what makes
- 5:31Speaker 1: our hearts sing. It's that inner aspect of our being
- 5:36Speaker 1: that comes alive. And we'll work five times as hard
- 5:41Speaker 1: as we were when we were dragging ourselves along with
- 5:43Speaker 1: the drudgery thing. And the fifth one is is listening.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Listening without love is empty sound. It just doesn't make
- 5:55Speaker 1: any sense. You don't understand. But listening with love is understanding.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So these five L's have been very helpful for me
- 6:08Speaker 1: in structuring and understanding the philosophy and the lives that
- 6:12Speaker 1: I'm working with. Because we really don't understand our own power. See,
- 6:23Speaker 1: I have this kind of idea that when God created
- 6:27Speaker 1: this earth, whoever God is to whoever you are, he
- 6:33Speaker 1: created the earth and it was beautiful and everything was
- 6:36Speaker 1: in place the way it should be. But then he
- 6:40Speaker 1: created the human being and he said to us, now
- 6:44Speaker 1: you are the only creatures on this whole place that
- 6:50Speaker 1: have the right to choose and have free will so
- 6:55Speaker 1: therefore I give you dominion over the earth and we
- 7:01Speaker 1: being who we were decided that what he meant by
- 7:05Speaker 1: dominion was dominance and so we've taken over the earth
- 7:09Speaker 1: and done what we darn well choose with it and
- 7:12Speaker 1: look where we are so it's that reality that within
- 7:18Speaker 1: In us as human beings, I think that like E.T.
- 7:23Speaker 1: who was reaching for home, I think that in the
- 7:29Speaker 1: inner part of us, we're all reaching for our true humanity.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Thank you.
