- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome on in.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is that time of week.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: It is the sooner I'm going to side-pied here at Oklusooters on SI.com and it should be a fun one.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's the softball edition obviously here on a Monday recap and Oklahoma's big series went over Texas where they went down.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: into two of three from the war and said, even in that third game that they did not get, I think that was about as good vibes as you can get while also dropping one to text.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Smokeful dive into it all, I Brian Chapman joined as always by like good power Ryan, Avery Ryan, how did you enjoy the weekend happening across the SCC?
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was certainly a fun weekend of action, and we talked about, oh, you text us be in the series of the season to this point, certainly lived up to it was was interesting, although
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: If I never hear Jessica Mendoza say new record, again, will be to, you know, two short of a time or not, Jessica Mendoza, excuse me, Beth Moans, who said that quite a bit.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: uh... but uh... either way kind of wreck kind of uh... wells gets the uh... freshman record for her own and uh... you know these records just keep rolling in for the centers and they're not about to stop now
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: No, they are not, the individual records will come.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: Kindle obviously, as you mentioned, gets hers at least for the freshman side of things.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Next up is Jocelyn Ollo.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: We will talk about that in a little bit.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: But let's just dive into it.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: Three games, Oklahoma goes down, shuts out the horns in game one behind some phenomenal defense and outstanding pitching performance from Audrey Lowry.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: They turn around, Miley would chain you, goes six, then Lowry gets
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: to close the door in the seventh on Saturday, for opening a close down in the series, Sunday, there's a little bit different, got to roll out Burzon, Deal, a couple of freshmen in Berkeley's decay, Analysts of Parker, give the ball back to Lowry, but it was one of those games that if you've seen or watched or listened to Patty Gasso plenty of times in the regular season, especially when they have the series locked up.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: She almost values that experience of all those pictures being in that moment over the actual wins and losses,
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: and help you out later, and they almost won the game anyway, taking a lead into extra innings or in-extra innings, obviously.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: But it was Katie Stewart walkstop, we'll get to that in a second.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: What was your biggest takeaway from the weekend coming out as Oklahoma didn't separate at the top of the SEC, because as we had talked about, it's probably gonna be an Oklahoma Alabama race for Florida looming with some extra wins in the bank, but they certainly put Texas as SEC title push in the regular season on life support.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's it's going to be hard for the long horns to get back into it could have pretty well finished them off yesterday had they you know finished off the sweep but still Texas being three games back with with only nine to go is going to be really difficult to overcome but I think Oklahoma would put itself in a really really good position here moving forward although the next couple of weekends certainly it nothing's easy the rest of the way
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: for the sooners, but you get past Texas, you don't have some of those others that are right up on you on the schedule.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: So put themselves in really good position.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think for me the biggest take away outside of just that was the pitching and not only the success that they had,
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, once again, we talked about how much better they've gotten, they showed that again, but to your point that you sort of alluded to earlier, the way that they were able to use the pitching staff on Sunday and get pictures like Alyssa Parker get a Berkeley's decay into those moments and start experiencing what what those are like.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think that can only help you come May, come June when you're in the postseason.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: Ella Parker talked about that and how important the Austin series was a couple of years ago.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: When she was a freshman, offensively, and I think that this series can have that same effect on those young pictures for them in the circle after what they did yesterday, especially
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: each of those freshmen gave up a home run and gave up a run, but they also had some big time moments where they were able to get out of jams, and I think that that was something that's going to prove really important for them in their development.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you, uh, check out the website, opensewersonesside.com.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I expanded on the stock a little bit more, but as good as it was for the whole staff, and in that stuff on Sunday is super important, I think for me, my biggest takeaway is, you and I, we've talked about it, that the pitching staff's been on the rides, right?
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: And that Jim Rocha was probably coming back at the exact right time when you pair what the staff had been doing and then being able to take them down to Baton Rouge and have enough time to really hit that ramp up period I would not classify your eyes like doubting the staff but I think that we were both very
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: curious what that would look like when you head to take on one of the leagues toughest line-ups, one of the nations toughest line-ups in Austin.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that what you saw on Friday, and the defense plays a role in all this.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to talk about the defense in a second.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that it does not come off as not honoring what the Oklahoma defense has done.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: But when you look at what Audrey Lowry and my little chanel did on Friday and Saturday paired with everything
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think the answer, the resounding answer, is this can be a championship caliber, one, two.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: That is a one, two punch that can go to Oklahoma City and whether you're talking about being in a champ series, scenario, whether you're taking a step back and talking about, oh, you might have to play Alabama on a Saturday, and or you might have to play,
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Dependent how stuff works out like a floor to on a Thursday and a Texas on Saturday or whatever it looks like Those are two pictures that Oklahoma feels like I think they can throw out against the top line-ups in the country and that then paired with the defense Can do enough or excel to the point that Oklahoma's offense doesn't need to have a nine-run day or something like that and For Patty Gasseau for Jen Rocha for an offense that doesn't need any more help.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot imagine the
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if confidence boost is even the right way to say it, boost might not be, but the validation of saying we feel like we've got something we feel like that staff is going on the right direction now they're going to be heavily tested right Arkansas Georgia and will find out if this was a one week and thing I don't think it was one week and thing or if it's sustained but to me I thought the biggest takeaway is that if you can go and do that down in Austin then you can take on any lineup certainly with 10,000 crimson clad fans at your back when Oklahoma City.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, that's something that we had talked about that Patty Gasseau talked about quite a bit was trying to to build a staff that was, uh, didn't have to just rely on, on one picture like they've relied on, you know, Sam Landry last year and, and others.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: And when you can go into it with two pictures that you really feel comfortable about,
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: rolling out to face anybody.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: And then several pieces around those two pictures that, you know, Sydney Burzans come on recently and the freshman that we talked about that you could throw out there, Kirsten Deal, into that mix.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think that makes it to, you know,
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Not that I think this offense is disappearing, but as we've seen, you know, a couple times recently, it can be harder for them to score against somebody's really top flight, you know, pitching staffs and you're going to have to find a way to win games in different ways.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: come super regionals come women's college world series time and I think that they've shown that they can do that with the pitching staff here, you know, over these last couple weeks, but especially this weekend down in Austin with what Audrey Lauer was able to do and what Miley Machinio was able to do.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought just the line of
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: six innings did allow seven hits but only walk to struck out six and you know was able to get out of there with just three runs two of them earned and I thought that was a step forward another step forward from her even though maybe it wasn't their best you know stat performance wise but given who she was facing that was big time.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: And also, it's one of those things that of those six strikeouts, she had boat up twice.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was the third and the fifth for giving me if I have those misordered.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: But you had boom, boom, steward atwood back to back, sits on both down with K's, circles back around next time through exact same result.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's all you need to know about what you know, because it's kind of been
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to make it like a massive pendulum swing because I think that's over exaggerating but by the standard of looking through the lens and you know you picture it's like she's she's the one that has the gotty strikeout numbers but we talked about you look at even that LSU
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: game that she got to start and gave up all the solo shots and it's like she will probably leave one hanging because she's not afraid to attack the zone.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: She's also happened to hit matters because she's not afraid to attack inside and she can just make sure that the hit batter and the walk numbers are as low as possible or that when she does get in a travel because no picture is perfect.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: that it's solo shots instead of three run shots or a grand slam or stuff like that.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: That can be the difference.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: And as you saw, this offense, even if it's not firing on all cylinders, it still is incredibly clutch, as you saw on Friday night.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: It took two batteries to jump out early and punish one of the few mistakes that Tina Cobain had.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was late-hitting clutch hitting from
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: felt like she was in the blender for a little bit and then steps in, fouls went off, you're like, okay, timing right, yep, boom, that's gone.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then on Sunday, a game that Texas could have run away and hid with with some of the opportunities they had, weren't able to cash in as Oklahoma's collecting that valuable experience.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then all of a sudden, Gabby Garcia comes up and you're like,
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: for the longest time a game that felt like Oklahoma was operating as if it, they did obviously they want to win, but it was like, they were operating as if the win was secondary to the experience, suddenly they're in position to win that game too and you go, okay, even on the offensive down weekend or down days, they are clutch, they are punishing and they're not going away.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: That is a really, really good formula, especially as Paddy Gasau always says, she views it, pitching defense,
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: offense.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: If you can get two thirds of that, go on to the three aspects of the game rolling.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't pull home about what the athletes they have, you're probably going to have a really, really good day.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: When she said that, I don't quite know if she was envisioning on Friday, I want to act by on a swiping around off the board, essentially with the fan tag.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: has to grab basically into center field and then later, the diving grab, paddy gas, so evoked the name J to Coleman, J to Coleman, ask out there in Austin.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: We said it.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing that Kyminer has not been able to have is the ball find her in clutch moments.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's not been her fault.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what?
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: She's got one now as far as that goes and then just public service announcement to all of college softball.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: If Ella Parker's not on the warning track,
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Three put out assists from right, gunning people down at the plate.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: All three of them, great throws in the perfect spot for either wells.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's been two to wells, one to emirling.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: But that defensive tour to force on Friday is why for such a long time Ryan, Oklahoma State and Texas have really struggled to win in this series, because that OU defense always seems to show up in the big moments.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it really does and, you know, I asked, I asked Alana by on me about this last week in Patti Gesso about how the, the defenses really come along, you know, over the last month or so as the pitching has risen.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: And we saw example after example of that.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think this weekend, and heck, you look even at the other side of it.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: There was a defense of miscue that really hurt them yesterday.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: Although, again, I think there was some growth, maybe some learning to be had there, but overall the defense for them was phenomenal.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you were to tell me before the year that
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: and that she would not have any errors, I mean, you'd be just sort of blown away by that with the job that she's done.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's any surprise that she's, you know, has a gun on her, but to have three assists at this point is pretty incredible.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: They have been in big situations that one that she had this weekend was phenomenal and you're right.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: She's, you know,
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: You think about some of the great right field arms that we've seen.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, for baseball, I always think about, even those before my time, Roberto Clomenes arm is the one that really gets held up there a couple of other guys, but you do not want to run on Ella Parker if you can all of, at all, avoid it.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: And Mike White tempted fate this weekend and lost.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: I just, for, I wonder, first off, I know that both teams are super aggressive on the basis we saw that with Patty, sending Kai Miner a couple of times, things like that.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: I just wonder if the ball ended up not as deep into right as Mike White thought it was, or if he just was thinking, okay, she's done that into other games, but can she do it in Osmo.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: So, one of those was in it, Baton, I don't know.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was,
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was a weird decision like as it was happening and then it turned out to be absolutely wrong and hindsight and I was like all right well uh yeah again the funny thing is I know that so much a last year Ella was set up to play a lot more in the outfield because Patty asked so I think wanted to have these situations and the shit once popped up and that just became a management thing right like Ella was going to have to play through it so it was how do you play through it in the best way possible we saw in like the protective boot a lot in the dugout stuff like that
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: her being healthy and I don't think that even when we talked about it in the preseason you know like media day stuff like that I probably took for granted just how key that would be because we've seen Abby Dayton be able to step out and get like a day a senior day off stuff like that being able to move like a casting pickering around or on the days that you really really want to have emirling and wells in the lineup and not
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: and then put Lexi McDaniel it for I mean it is given pati gaso.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think so many more options that it we might not even realize the development gained by like a Lexi McDaniel or somebody two or three years down the line because the extra appearances as a freshman just because pati gaso can really yeah spin the wheel and see who we want to play with.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I mean that's one the beauty of pati gaso that she uh
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, changes the lineup so much and allows players, uh, opportunities to play in different kinds of positions.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Ella Parker's performance out there has given has unlocked even more of that.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we saw it a little bit this weekend with Amber laying it first with, you know, some of the other changes we've seen Pickering in that DP spot quite a bit this season, which is allowed Dayton to play, you know, in left with Kai minor and center.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: and gives you a really, really good defensive outfield set up, and you know, it's just, again, I think what's made Oklahoma so good and so sustainably good, defensively, is the fact that they can roll out young players in there, give them opportunities, maybe before they're ready,
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: to be everyday players or everyday players with a set position.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so it makes them so much better when they do or in that opportunity.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think Sidney Barker is an example of that this year with the job that she's been able to do it third, she made some fantastic defense of plays this weekend as well.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think of certainly one of the ones that she made yesterday on Sunday was incredible and has just been sort of the cornerstone.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: of that great infield defense from them sort of along with agbiani and at Garcia, I mean, they're all fantastic, but it's just
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: no surprise that they just keep moving up on that national feeling percentage list, but also just the feel of this defense right now.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: They feel like they're rolling along right now and it's not just the routine plays, it's the great plays that they can make as we saw with Kai Miner as we saw with some of the other ones this weekend.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: I also just kind of chuckle because I know that when we had talked to Patty, she had said the quote about Sidney Barker where she had basically said listen, play defense.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about it, which not to say that she's poor offensively by any means.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: She talked about like, yeah, she's hitting 300.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: That'd be awesome for everyone.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: Then you look up and see 450, 400 and go, well, hang on.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: I held myself to a higher set.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: She was three for nine for the week and at the play, Dr.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: Walk was one of the key runs yesterday.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Kai Miner, I thought, had a great weekend.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: Ella Parker, obviously, the very loud Homer to start things off.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: The first warning shot on Friday, Emmerling Homer's, you have a Kind of Wells moment, obviously on Saturday.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: Abby Dayton at the bottom of the lineup on Sunday was kind of keeping Oklahoma within striking distance so that you can just be
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: within one swing of the bat, and we saw two different swings of the bat for a Gabby Garcia.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that shows up.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: I like how many offenses could withstand a pretty tough weekend from Cassie Pickering, which no doubt she'll bounce back, EBS and Flows.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: I know that she got the record, but a pretty tough weekend from what kind of well, so a bit like two heavy hitters, most often says that sync's your entire weekend, and yet Oklahoma is winning on Friday and Saturday and putting up a pretty big number on Sunday and kind of in position if it weren't for
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: another well's plus Katie Stewart's just like monster absolute new that that was one of the third story of that apartment building which is close but it's not as close as you think to even hit the apartment building is going oh it hit the third story and I was like yeah slam that bat down as hard as you want because you have earned it with that swing
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, hey, I'll start off with the very last sentence you said there.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I didn't see any reaction poor reaction to Katie Stewart's bat slam.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure there was some among OU Twitter, but you know, OU's done that to plenty of teams.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, she turned to the Texas dugout and celebrated with them.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: So if anybody did have any problems with that, don't, you know, she, she earned that moment and earned every single bit of it because goodness that was hit a long way and hard.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, when teams react that way to beaten you, that just means you've done the right thing for so long and you've beaten teams down for so long, but I think, you know, Mike White probably said it best this weekend and said,
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: But if you if you pitch around the one you're going to have to attack another that's going to have a chance to burn you and they had mostly success against Kindle Wells this weekend like you said sort of in the blender there, but
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: You miss with a pitch and they're going to make you pay and make you pay in a big way.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: And, oh, you did that on several occasions over the weekend, kind of wells being one of them.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the Gabby Garcia home run yesterday and it just is relentless.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: The way that this offense attacks you.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: So even if one or two hitters aren't on,
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: you're still gonna have to deal with a lot in heck even you know Abbey Dayton at the bottom of the order you don't think of a nine hitter as one who's gonna you know generate much in the way of power but she was able to drive out that home run yesterday for her six to get the sooner's on the board had a really big sacrifice fly later in another example where oh use taken advantage of a defensive miscue on the other side
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: uh... with uh... agbiani able to get into scoring position there to ultimately score so it's just uh... you know more examples of what makes this o u program this o u team uh... so devastating is uh... you know the way the depth that they're able to uh... generate offensively
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: And in a way, too, I thought it was such like, this will, I think kiddo else look back and I think she's kind of built this way.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: We'll view this as a very important weekend.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: Cause I think you saw, she had the three at bat.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: She really wanted back on Friday night, that fourth time through against Kavanaugh.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: You almost saw her in real time.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like she was not in rhythm, but about to check and then realize, nope, that's the rise ball that I have chased twice now already.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you saw her draw that walk at the end and I kind of highlighted that on a Friday night and thought, this could be a big moment for her this weekend.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: Saturday and her first at that, her first trip, that's almost thought it was a little bit of an overreaction from her of being almost too timid, because I think you could see there were a couple of those balls that she took that she's like,
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm just in my flow, I'm probably attacking that one.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: Does it mean that I connected all that stuff, not necessarily, but then finally, by at that number three, I think she had worked that out and got back into that.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: On the road, hostile environment, there's only one more of those.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: Wilkins was really going to face this year, and that's going to be in college.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: Station, otherwise we know this.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: Lexington for the SEC tournament should be mostly neutral.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: They'll be in Norman for regionals.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: They'll be in Norman for supers.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: They'll be with a ton of friendly faces.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: okay see it's a thing of if you can go through that and still produce the big moment on Saturday and we know that she's very very mentally tough you don't get to this level and go through the season like this without being that way then I'm not too worried about it not worried about it it always still thinks she's on track to smash all the records all that stuff but I think that in the end patty gass was gonna probably be happy that like again this is
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: A blip that happens on April 12th is when they rounded it out.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: You still got a whole month to ramp in to even postseason play.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then an SEC tournament and regionals to make sure that I'm not saying she's not confident.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: This is not like a swamp that was just a really good picture getting the best of her a bit.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: But she's got that whole month left to continue to rise and almost grow from that and become even better.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's almost great news.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a lot easier to say.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: I suppose if you're early in a growing back in count and two of those three wins on the flight home.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, that's another, you know, one of those things it's so great about this team is that they're allowed to grow through things and I think it allows them to be much more comfortable with failure to some degree as
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think we've talked about this and I just say it because I've talked to him so much about it skip Johnson continually talks about not being worried about the results and just worried about the process and the results will ultimately take care of itself.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: you know, for kind of wells to see her sort of working through that process and be able to take that time and to be, you know, overly aggressive and then to be maybe overly timid and then start really settling in, especially against a pitcher like Cavan and how difficult she is and she was fantastic this weekend.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you need to be able to work through some things and for Oklahoma, they can afford to work through those things and one, one loss isn't going to kill you as, you know, they did yesterday.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that on balance is going to be a good experience for them for all the reasons that we've talked about, but also those young hitters can be secure in their place in the lineup.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: that they're going to keep getting it bats and that their team is going to keep scoring runs where they don't have to just go out there and press press press and it allows you to not only trust that process but also you know ride the roller coaster of that process.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: and have some of the dips have some of the highs, but ultimately come out of it a much much better hitter, and I think that's what JT Gasau and Patty Gasau do as well as anybody is help these pitchers or help these hitters navigate that and ultimately come out of it as some of the best hitters.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: uh... not only in the country but uh... in the history of college softball which is where that uh... kind of wells is headed now uh... with thirty one home runs uh... you know was still uh... you know several weeks left in the season
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we've talked about all the landmarks, 34.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll show Ty, Jocelyn's two-time single season.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: Program record 37 is the NCAA D1 all-time single season record.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: So certainly within striking distance for sure.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it leads us into what is going to be a really, really fun week around these parts.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's Oklahoma.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: They want to win every game.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I find it weird setting up like this, but it's almost back to back games that are really kind of awkward spot for the suitors.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: Would you love to sweep Texas?
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, but that was if you're talking about the desperation, it's hard to match the desperation that Texas had on Sunday.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: They had to have that game to even try to stay alive in
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be a top 5 team and boring like a big collapse.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to host super solve that stuff.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: But to bolster that RPI anytime you can drop, even just getting one and one against Oklahoma and Alabama helps do a lot for your RPI.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now you come into this midweek bedroom.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: Going to be a ton of fun Wednesday night.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: Jackie Livingston was talking about on the pre-game show on Saturday, I think, or Sunday, but Saturday, I think.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: about how they're trying to split it with the orange on the OSU half, the crimson on the OU half, but this is a bedlam game that patty gas odical home up, really like political mistake, I think that patty gas so really likes establishing some local dominance.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: But Oklahoma State needs this game for RP at like I was trying to go through it this morning with the our good friend Bob for his bill of I would not be shocked at all if you see one of Kirsten deal or Sidney Burzon or Alyssa Parker going heads up with Ruby Malen as OSU needs needs this I think Oklahoma would rather just keep Audrey Lowry and my little chano in
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: full-week rest ready to go Friday, Saturday.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully the weather will permit us to go Friday, Saturday, as Arkansas comes in for a massive, massive series, the gas snowball in Normandy.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think there's no doubt that this is a bigger game for Oklahoma State than it is for Oklahoma.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have to, even with Arizona, looming this weekend for them up in still water, they're going to really need this win in a way that, oh, you, while again, they'd love to have it and they will certainly have a lineup that's going to put them in position to win.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: with your pitching there, but to get these young pitchers, pitchers like Alyssa Parker and Berkeley's
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: And what that's like, even though it's not going to be the same atmosphere as the College World Series, they're going to be a big time atmosphere out there, and then, you know, picture like Sydney Burzon, to have that experience.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, it's certainly wouldn't surprise me if Kirsten deal through some.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I think I would look for those three to get opportunities in this, even if it's just for an inning, even if it's just to get a couple of outs, to at least get them that experience.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think that can be invaluable, but again, this is a game that's got a chance to boost.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it's going to boost, it's going to boost Oklahoma State to more.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: That, you know, not that they're into the season schedules going to, you know, be lacking of those, but given where they were before, they've got some ground to make up and they're, you know, finally starting to make that up with what they've done last weekend and then what they're going to face here through the close of the season.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know if there's a team in the country that's like, strength of schedule and RPI was going to look edge dramatically different.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, Oklahoma, not just the first weekend when it comes out, but like, Oklahoma even through the LSU weekend, it's like, the RPI was going to be whatever it was.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think everyone looked at it.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, but at the time they get to the end of their schedule, if they have.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: If they play the kind of softball that we know that they're capable of, they'll be right up there amongst everybody.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: In the RPI strength of schedule, all that fun stuff, I'd be rolling Burzon out there if I was the powers that be.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: Get her finally to Devon Park, finally a decorated college career, but get her out there, get the sound, the energy, get that going.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: Even if you just do the two innings here, an ending to Burk, please okay, two innings to a less a parker,
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: kind of reevaluate where you're at at the end of the fifth and see if you're going for a win do you bring laudery and to try to continue to prime her for those late game saves scenarios do you see if what change you want to be one of those pictures that comes it like we i think that uh general chin pati gas so it can almost just i said it was spin the wheel with the line up earlier i think they could just be like
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: you, you go get in there and see what you want to do and blindly pick it.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they would be a okay as far as that goes.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: But it wraps up what I think was a fantastic weekend for the Sooners and you look at it, you got just a handful of midweeks left, those three, but it's a big road left.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: If you give me one second, if I were better at my job Ryan, I would have had this up, pulled up a little bit ago.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: For Oklahoma, we mentioned it.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: They've got Arkansas, Georgia, Texas A&M, at College Station, Arkansas, and Georgia at Love Spealed.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: For Alabama, they will host Kentucky, which,
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: we know the Kentucky situation, more power to him as they continue to battle through injuries.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: Then Tennessee has probably dropped too many to seriously be bounced around any kind of regular season situation, but Tennessee hosts the crimson tide.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: Here in a couple of weekends, that could be a big series when it comes to shaping the SEC regular season race.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: Alabama will close with a home series against South Carolina, so we'll see that as well.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: I also think Florida's the other one looming out there, mainly because first I thought they're really good, but also Florida only They not have hitting their bi-week yet.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: They have wins banked that we know for Florida is no banana peel type situation where
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: It could be a spot where Oklahoma could win the Arkansas series when the Georgia series won them two to one or something not sweep through and then suddenly I think that could be like where you're going into the final weekend going oh you've got Oklahoma Alabama and oh by the way Florida's just kind of looming in case Alabama is skated against Tennessee or something like that just because Florida has already banked the wins even if they work like a couple games back or things like that so I think that's kind of your three horse race videos you see going in to at least for the regular season.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt about that.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it'll be, be fun to watch.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the Seniors are in great position here.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think would have been in much better position if they were able to escape on Sunday.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: But do you think that was the right move sort of going at it from a development standpoint other than try to sort of be greedy and get the sweep.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think that'll certainly ultimately prove to be
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: a better decision there, but the sooner's in a fantastic spot, and should be a fun next few weeks in the SEC race to see how it starts shaking out, and with some of the other races too, just around the country.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, one, the home run race, because Megan Grant is once again inserted herself.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: uh... you know back into that race with kind of wells uh... climbing up to twenty nine i believe after this weekend and then uh... you know look at around the country some with what happened this weekend ryan uh... i think there's a lot of uh... interesting results but none more interesting than Stanford
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: sweeping floor to state, which was a bit of a shock or not that Stanford's not a really good team, but to have them sweep that series, I think was a little bit of a surprise.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: chaos is what and I think that we got to whether you had planned to watch it or not the weather delays with Oklahoma and Texas were like intertwined with everything that Stanford and Florida State.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: So to go from like nation leading winning streak to swept out there I think is one of those just
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: I, I didn't, it would not have shocked me for Stanford to have won that series or anything like that, but the sweep and current continues to just absolutely mash and we also got a ton of fun crowd shots, not crowd shots, but coaching staff plus team active with the tarp both in college station on the baseball side of things and
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Stanford for their new state in there.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: Just quick worth the mention as well that I'm counting losses in the SEC race, just because Florida has one more series, but A&M also looming with four losses.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: They've got Mississippi State at home at South Carolina, then they'll host Oklahoma.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: Arkansas, a game out of A&M, but Arkansas, I think you're very good.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: But when you have at Oklahoma and at Texas left on your schedule, you also have Missouri in there, I'm penciling in a couple more a lot.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: It might not be Oklahoma, but when it might be Alabama or Florida, but I think that there's enough damage is going to be done in some of those hot, hot, hot series that Arkansas has at Oklahoma and at Texas.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's the one that's like, they're they're going to be a top eight seed and they're going to have plenty, I think, to earn it, but man, oh man, you have to look at that schedule in the way in and go.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have to split one of those with it being at home, maybe.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's going to be difficult for the Razerbacks, but it'll be a fun series this weekend with, you know, as you mentioned, DJ Gasau coming to town, I think, you know, Courtney Difel is one of the best coaches around, and that'll be fun.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: See in the Razerbacks with a little bit maybe different look than we've been used to seeing them over the last couple of years here, you know, entering this matchup.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I would say, just keep your head on the swivel folks.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's not that we've like heard anything or anything like that about the weather.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: Those decisions are usually not like seriously looked at until Thursday when the weather service gets their most updated charts and projections.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then they do a really good job of getting with Oklahoma and all that stuff.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: But if that rain is to just depend on when it comes on Friday, it would still come on Friday.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: We can dodge it because the weekend set up kind of perfect Friday night Arkansas Saturday, you roll into a spring game Saturday, which there's plenty of time between when the spring game starts and when oh you Arkansas gets going that you can make your way and split up both if you're so fortunate then get away down Sunday.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: Fingers crossed that we stick with the schedule because it should be perfect.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just worry that, you know, we might be in the clear on Saturday and we'd pay for it on Friday or simply that.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: But, like, as always, I think everyone knows the drill, especially this week.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think everyone's seen the map set.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: If you're in the, uh, the metro area, around Oklahoma City, more Norman, just look alive, head on a swivel and, uh, it's always the first that we hear anything official, it'll get passed along to you guys.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: So be sure you're following us on Twitter or the easiest place for all that if you would just want everybody under one roof.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: Just hit us up, Sooner's on SI on X or Twitter.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: You can like us on Facebook, Oklahoma, Sooner's on SI.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: That way, all of our stuff will pop into your feed.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to the website, Oklahoma Sooner's on SI.com or just hit up Ryan at RY ABER on the Twitter sphere, and I am underscore Ryan Chapman as far as that goes.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. ABER, have we missed anything?
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back on Wednesday, obviously, too.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe do a little bit of preview more looking ahead to Arkansas, but it's also going to be stacked into the big mega pod, which is our weekly edition here on the podcast beat.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the only other thing I was thinking about that we didn't mention was the television Fiasco.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, sorry, that's a good day.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think you avoided it right by having it on ESPN Plus.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: I was one of the fortunate ones, so this is I had to talk about Sunday, but Saturday, the weird scheduling situation.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: And this is not the hockey national championship's fault, but sliding that to go through 715 so that you get the trophy presentation, I don't know why if you knew that you had owe you Texas softball, which you wanted to pump, that you didn't just slide the broadcast window up slightly, because I think that if ESPN had said, hey, could we play this 15 minutes earlier, or 30 minutes earlier, to get the whole thing trophy presentation, we would have got that.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: So because of
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: being late on Saturday.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: I had just went straight to ESPN plus instead of YouTube TV.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: On Sunday, I just didn't mess with it.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I think I turned it on and LSU was running behind or something like that.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I was like, whatever, it wasn't until after Hannah Wells home or the eighth that I had realized that everyone else that was watching just got fired over into Inside B and B A and
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: with no warning no one said anything could we not did we have the producers asleep at the wheel of like hey guys we're going to have to go to ESPN news could we hammer this for a whole inning of like buy the ESPN news by the way ESPN news.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: Well, except for it wasn't even ESPN news, which they had started the game on, they started the game on ESPN news because of the LSU game that you mentioned.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then the end, I actually go downstairs to grab something out of the refrigerator, come back up, set down to watch the eighth.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: And inside the NBA's on, so I have to scramble around and look finally find it on ESPNU.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: Was able to see the finale, got to see Stuart's home run, but missed the Hannah Wells home run.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: And just an awful job by them, of not
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: Letting fans know where this game was going and that headed that it had been moved Because there was no mention of it no bug on the screen anything like that to to show that it had been moved and just
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, sort of uh, definitely a drop of the ball there by the SPF folks, uh, not to allow for as big as this series was as big as that game was and as big as they made it.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think the outside of the new record thing, you know, Beth Moans and Jess Comeandosa and the crew did a Michelle Smith did a really good job of that broadcast and making it as big as it deserved to be, but that was certainly very disappointing.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, friday I understand you have not won but two other delays you're spinning around that that's where But they but they at least had the bug in the corner that said then it delay or this is this is what we're doing this is what we're doing it's rare that I feel like that the
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: unexpectedness of weather was better executed than the unexpectedness of just it was a longer game because there were a lot of pitching changes on both sides then you had the extra itings like I I understand that it went over but how do you handle a weather situation which is way more unpredictable than just being like
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, let me look down at my watch.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: This game's going to the long, just FYI, at five, we have inside the NBA schedule.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: Do we want to dump that over to you?
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: Do we want to move gay?
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's make that decision relay.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that maybe we would be better at that.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, hey, I guess that's what you get in April as it's ramp up period for everybody.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: I suppose.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, not letting them get away with that one.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Good call there, but we'll be back here for the full series on SI Paddle.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: We talked in plenty of spring game preview, both the men's and women's basketball programs are often running in the transport portal.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: We'll recap all of that.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: baseball, had a chaotic weekend over in Nashville, although I think that for us we look at that and go, what a crazy weekend for Vanderbilt, they say, yeah, it's Tuesday.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever it is, or this is just Saturday in Nashville is what we do.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: They only play wacky games, but fantastic job by Skipping Crew, we had said they can grab two of three,
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: and sweet Missouri for all the hand reigns you're back exactly where you wanted to be probably.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll recap all of that on Wednesday in this feed here.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: If you're listening on the podcast, just it'll pop up there on Wednesday.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: If you're looking for us on YouTube, John Hoover Media is the YouTube page.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: That'll be where all the posts came from Bedlam.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: All of our spring game content will be there.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: We'll usually talk to a ton of people there.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: We got it back to some Monday night as well, talking to people.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want the videos, we want to hear from all of the big wigs who want to use campus.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Be sure you're on who's your two-page John, who's a comedian.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: Big thank you to Ryan for taking some time today to hang out.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: I will talk to you on Wednesday, my friend.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: We got a busy week ahead.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: We've got Bendom on Wednesday.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_01]: on the football side of things that don't want to hide a key day on Thursday.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: That rolls into ahead on a swivel weekend as far as spring game and softball and baseball and all that stuff.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll be ramped up here and we're excited to talk about it all with you guys on Wednesday.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: For Ryan Avery, I'm Ryan Chapman though.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk to you then.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: Have a good one.
