- 0:28Speaker 1: Ghost Stories and the Unusual Paranormal Podcast?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Good morning, good afternoon, giving me where you are across
- 0:37Speaker 2: country and around the world. You are listed the Ghost
- 0:41Speaker 2: Stories and the Unmusical Paranormal Podcast. Really indeed your host,
- 0:49Speaker 2: Joe the Ghost Guy. Yeah, I'm sorry. I've been away
- 0:54Speaker 2: from the mic for quite a while. Things happened, life happened,
- 1:01Speaker 2: So I've happened to throw me a couple of curveballs
- 1:04Speaker 2: and just set me back a little bit. But that's life,
- 1:11Speaker 2: you know. And get a chance right now to hop
- 1:16Speaker 2: on and finally get to chat with you guys and
- 1:23Speaker 2: put out a wonderful ghost story. Yesterday happened to be
- 1:30Speaker 2: my forty seventh birthday, and as a gift, my mother
- 1:39Speaker 2: got me a couple of books that I'm going to
- 1:43Speaker 2: be really thrilled to share with you guys. Well, I'm
- 1:47Speaker 2: going to read today. It's called Sleeping with Ghosts. It's
- 1:53Speaker 2: a Ghost Center's guide to Arizona's haunted hotels and ends.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And as I was reading it, I found a lot
- 2:02Speaker 2: of unique things in some of the stories I have
- 2:11Speaker 2: done on on the this podcast, like the Grand Hotel,
- 2:17Speaker 2: the Jerme and the Hotel. It's also in there, and
- 2:23Speaker 2: it's got some unique more than I find on the internet.
- 2:29Speaker 2: So today and it's Christmas, and.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We'll go.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And back home to my wonderful town of Sligman. Shout
- 2:43Speaker 2: out to all the Sigma Nights out there. And one
- 2:47Speaker 2: place that's unique for us. It's called the Grand Canny
- 2:52Speaker 2: Cavern in the Grand Canny Caverns and it's located on
- 2:59Speaker 2: the historic grouts between Keenan and Sligman. Although it is
- 3:06Speaker 2: a separate unit team from the Grand Canyon National Park
- 3:11Speaker 2: and is not officiated with the National Park Service, the
- 3:16Speaker 2: Grand Candy Caverns has been a stopping point for hikers
- 3:21Speaker 2: and nearby lake nearby Housu Canyon for more than thirty
- 3:28Speaker 2: seven years. The inn was built near the entrance of
- 3:32Speaker 2: the caverns, not far from where the building is housing
- 3:37Speaker 2: the restaurant and curio shop is located. The natural limestone
- 3:42Speaker 2: caverns are assessed by means of an elevator that descends
- 3:50Speaker 2: down to over two hundred and ten feet underground or
- 3:55Speaker 2: roughly twenty one stories. They were discovered in nineteen twenty seven,
- 4:03Speaker 2: like quite frankly by accident one evening, as a young
- 4:11Speaker 2: cowboy and a woodcutter named Walter Peck was on his
- 4:17Speaker 2: way to play poker with his friends, he nearly fell
- 4:21Speaker 2: into a large funnel shaped form. Not properly equipped to
- 4:28Speaker 2: investigate his discovery, to continue on his leader's poker game,
- 4:33Speaker 2: where he told his buddies about the new gaping hole
- 4:38Speaker 2: on his well traveled path. So the next day, flipped
- 4:43Speaker 2: with ropes and lanterns, Walter returned with his fellow cowboys
- 4:50Speaker 2: ready to explore the castle. One of the members of
- 4:55Speaker 2: his blunking expedition, not Walter through, was secured to a
- 5:01Speaker 2: rope and lowered into the depths of the leisure fissure.
- 5:09Speaker 2: When he finally reached to the bottom, the brave cowboy
- 5:15Speaker 2: began to exploit his surroundings, using the lantern to light
- 5:22Speaker 2: his way. His light eventually shone on the what he
- 5:30Speaker 2: thought it was a vein of gold, were gathering a
- 5:34Speaker 2: sackful samples. Thinking they had struck a ridge, he tugged
- 5:40Speaker 2: down the rope to haul back up. It was in
- 5:47Speaker 2: him end of the pack was lifted out. After showing
- 5:51Speaker 2: the companions the metal fragments, he reported to Walter and
- 5:58Speaker 2: his other companions that he also found two human skeletons
- 6:04Speaker 2: and remains of a horse of a horse and a
- 6:10Speaker 2: saddle fifty feet down. When the essay report the metal
- 6:18Speaker 2: loology chemical analysis came back, however, they found not with
- 6:27Speaker 2: the samples what they had retrieved and scent were not gold,
- 6:33Speaker 2: but lots of iron oxide or rust. Since he had
- 6:39Speaker 2: already bought the lamb, Walter came up with a new
- 6:42Speaker 2: idea so that his investments were not completely busted. He
- 6:49Speaker 2: began to change to charge a fee of twenty five
- 6:54Speaker 2: cents for the brave and curious to enterest property the
- 7:00Speaker 2: sea ofless skeletons, which by this time have been transformed
- 7:06Speaker 2: by the media to the remains of a kman. And
- 7:11Speaker 2: he built a very primitive elevator whereby visitors were tied
- 7:20Speaker 2: one end of rope and lowered down by hand and
- 7:23Speaker 2: crank wrench. In nineteen thirty five, a civilian conservation course
- 7:32Speaker 2: built a new entrance into the cavern with a wooden staircase,
- 7:37Speaker 2: three ladders and sixty foot hanging bridge swinging bridge, which
- 7:43Speaker 2: was the only way to cross the caverns until nineteen
- 7:47Speaker 2: sixty two, when a modern day elevator was installed and
- 7:52Speaker 2: natural entrance sealed. Now Here's the ghosts. The rest carryo
- 8:00Speaker 2: shops and the caverns allegedly haunted by the ghost of
- 8:06Speaker 2: confounder Walter Peck. The ghost hunter. Megan Taylor and I
- 8:13Speaker 2: met with Jackie, the manager of the Caryo shop, and
- 8:17Speaker 2: she's told us that sometimes when he when she is
- 8:22Speaker 2: working late in the office, she hears the elevator go
- 8:26Speaker 2: up and down the caverns, even though the place was
- 8:30Speaker 2: empty and elevader was supposed to be off. She and
- 8:36Speaker 2: several guests have also noticed that the light fixtures of
- 8:40Speaker 2: the restaurant shake and sweep back and forth and odd
- 8:46Speaker 2: hours of the day and night. Rosanna, an employee who
- 8:51Speaker 2: works at the restaurant, has also heard the elevator go
- 8:56Speaker 2: up and down the shaft, but when he has been
- 9:00Speaker 2: shut down for the night. She added, she noticed that
- 9:03Speaker 2: the elevator and the cabin rights were turned on and
- 9:08Speaker 2: off by their own Several times she had heard furniture
- 9:16Speaker 2: being moved around the restaurant as well when she would
- 9:21Speaker 2: enter the dining room to check on what was happening.
- 9:24Speaker 2: She always found something city silhouated as is even as
- 9:31Speaker 2: she left everything situated then when she left it in
- 9:37Speaker 2: its rightful place. In addition to this, rock Sanna was
- 9:43Speaker 2: heard voices of people talking to the restaurant after closing,
- 9:54Speaker 2: and then she had gone to a rescue. No guests
- 9:58Speaker 2: or anyone else visible have been present. The caverns were
- 10:05Speaker 2: once a Native American barrel site and this is quarantine
- 10:10Speaker 2: the Kenyans. The Grand Canyons Caverns website. You can catch
- 10:18Speaker 2: the website at Grand Canyon Caverns dot com for more information.
- 10:26Speaker 2: And the bones that were found were actually were two
- 10:32Speaker 2: Wallapie brothers who died in the flood. Apademic Jackie believes
- 10:38Speaker 2: that these spirits could have been haunting the area. Although
- 10:42Speaker 2: the bones were moved many years ago. Their spirits made
- 10:47Speaker 2: you lingering in the caverns. Some guests the caverns have
- 10:53Speaker 2: felt the strange presence close by and soon after most
- 10:58Speaker 2: of someone and person who had not been in the
- 11:02Speaker 2: group when the tour began writing the elevator or exploited
- 11:08Speaker 2: with them. When they when they again look at the imposture,
- 11:14Speaker 2: the person was gone. The ghosts also playing with the
- 11:18Speaker 2: ovens in the kitchen, adjusted in their temperatures, or turning them,
- 11:25Speaker 2: turning them off all together. When alone work at night,
- 11:29Speaker 2: rock Sanna was felt a spirit brush against her. She
- 11:34Speaker 2: feels that the ghosts are like pack of jokers. Perhaps
- 11:39Speaker 2: they were spirits of Walter Peck and his cowboy pals
- 11:44Speaker 2: preparing for another late night poker game. You know, folks
- 11:51Speaker 2: have been down to getting grand Katy caverns. It's been
- 11:54Speaker 2: a while, but they renovated it to ever since you
- 12:01Speaker 2: know this book, and now you go in the caverns
- 12:06Speaker 2: and they made it like a little lodge where you
- 12:10Speaker 2: could stay the night, you know, underground. And a lot
- 12:17Speaker 2: of people have explained that they've heard noises when they
- 12:22Speaker 2: were sleeping, getting touched and and stuff like that. And
- 12:27Speaker 2: also there's a petrified rob tat down there that's been
- 12:33Speaker 2: I believe it was like two hundred years old or more.
- 12:37Speaker 2: But also a lot of people have walked through there,
- 12:44Speaker 2: a lot of people saying that they they've been being
- 12:49Speaker 2: hit by the rocks, like someone stolen locks at them. So,
- 12:55Speaker 2: I don't know, there's a lot of stories going on around.
- 13:01Speaker 2: You know, they're still finding out a lot of places.
- 13:05Speaker 2: So if you ever in the area between Kingen and Slopan,
- 13:10Speaker 2: you know, hot down and go check out the caverns
- 13:14Speaker 2: and check out. If you have any ghost stories to say,
- 13:19Speaker 2: you could catch us at the Paranormal Paranormal ghost Stories
- 13:24Speaker 2: at gmail dot com. If you have any stories you'd
- 13:30Speaker 2: like to hear, if you guys happen to be and

- 13:36Speaker 2: I would like to know, and let's see what your
- 13:37Speaker 2: story's were. And that note, I'm glad to be on
- 13:46Speaker 2: back on the air. And it's been a while and
- 13:50Speaker 2: it sort of messed me up. I had a great
- 13:52Speaker 2: story for Halloween, but this is the Christmas month, and
