Latest / THE DAILY BRIEF / Trump looking to 'PUNISH' NATO allies that didn't support Iran war, report says

- 0:00Speaker 1: This is a Fox News alert signs of some movement
- 0:02Speaker 1: in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has a stranglehold
- 0:05Speaker 1: on traffic coming through the crucial waterway. We are learning
- 0:08Speaker 1: a total of eight ships, including two oil tankers, have
- 0:11Speaker 1: passed through that straight in the two days since the
- 0:14Speaker 1: ceasefire started. Now, under normal circumstances, an average of one
- 0:18Speaker 1: hundred twenty to one hundred and fifty ships passed through
- 0:20Speaker 1: the Strait of Hormuz daily, but some movement we are
- 0:24Speaker 1: seeing now. This comes as President Trump continues to push
- 0:27Speaker 1: diplomacy with Iran as he keeps our military locked and
- 0:30Speaker 1: loaded in the region. Posting this earlier, all US ships, aircraft,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and military personnel with additional ammunition, weaponry, and anything else
- 0:38Speaker 1: that is appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and
- 0:42Speaker 1: destruction of an already substantially degraded enemy will remain in
- 0:46Speaker 1: place in and around Iran and tell such time as
- 0:48Speaker 1: the real agreement reached is fully complied with, and there
- 0:52Speaker 1: is concern that the fragile truce could fall apart. After
- 0:56Speaker 1: the IDF conducted massive strikes in Beirut. Israeli Prime Benjamin Netanyah,
- 1:01Speaker 1: who's saying this last hour quote. In light of Lebanon's
- 1:03Speaker 1: repeated request to open direct negotiations with Israel, I instructed
- 1:08Speaker 1: the Cabinet yesterday to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon as
- 1:11Speaker 1: soon as possible. The negotiations will focus on the disarmament
- 1:15Speaker 1: of Hesbelah and the regulation of peaceful relations between Israel
- 1:19Speaker 1: and Lebanon. Israel appreciates the call made today by the
- 1:22Speaker 1: Prime Minister of Lebanon to demilitarize Beirut. Kennedy, it is
- 1:26Speaker 1: a fragile deal, as he noted by the Vice President.
- 1:29Speaker 1: We're learning about these talks that will happen Saturday. Witkoff
- 1:32Speaker 1: will be there, Kushner will be their vice president. Vance
- 1:35Speaker 1: will be there, and he says we have a ton
- 1:36Speaker 1: of leverage on Iran. I think it's great to have
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Vice President's voice in the room. He apparently was
- 1:41Speaker 1: instrumental and this ceasefire coming about.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I think the fact that he is leading the negotiations
- 1:48Speaker 2: with Messieurs Witkoff and Kushner, it's a very good time
- 1:51Speaker 2: because I feel like Witkoff and Kushner together have been
- 1:55Speaker 2: one of the strongest forces in the administration. I feel
- 1:59Speaker 2: like they are rational and cool, headed compared to some
- 2:03Speaker 2: of the other people who maybe take a little bit
- 2:05Speaker 2: more of a public role. And the fact that they
- 2:07Speaker 2: do things without addressing everything at a press conference every
- 2:12Speaker 2: single time, I think is a benefit for the negotiation process.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I hope they are successful. I hope they reach a
- 2:18Speaker 2: long term deal. I don't have a ton of faith
- 2:20Speaker 2: in that because as we have seen Iran just in
- 2:24Speaker 2: the last day, the way they are popping off and
- 2:28Speaker 2: goating the United States and goating Israel. This is one
- 2:32Speaker 2: of the things that I worried about when this whole
- 2:34Speaker 2: incursion started, was, you know, the inability to really get
- 2:40Speaker 2: a rational agreement quickly with Iran, because now they are
- 2:45Speaker 2: so desperate, they are so angry, and they are releasing
- 2:49Speaker 2: so much propaganda, and the president has so many enemies
- 2:52Speaker 2: within this country that they are latching onto that. You know,
- 2:56Speaker 2: for example, they're like Trump's a warmonger.
- 2:59Speaker 1: This is the worst thing that's ever happened.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Trump's like I'm gonna bomb Ron into the Stone Age.
- 3:03Speaker 2: That doesn't happen. They're like Taco Trump always chickens out.
- 3:07Speaker 2: You know, we would go taco Tuesday. So they are
- 3:10Speaker 2: waiting for him to fail. There are so many forces
- 3:12Speaker 2: against them. So I hope that the Vice President, who
- 3:15Speaker 2: has been one of the people within the administration, to
- 3:18Speaker 2: err on the side of peace and you know, not
- 3:21Speaker 2: getting into combat, not getting into regime change. I hope
- 3:25Speaker 2: and believe that the three pillars of the negotiation will
- 3:29Speaker 2: be hopefully successful. I prefer the nacho acronym, which we
- 3:32Speaker 2: were told h yesterday.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Emily. You know, the media reporting is often so wrong.
- 3:36Speaker 1: You don't know where Trump's head is at. And apparently
- 3:38Speaker 1: this ten point plan that's been circulating, he says not true.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Trey Inks came out and said there's an updated plan.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Aron has already conceded to many of those old points.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So the only person who knows where this is at
- 3:49Speaker 1: is President Trump. And I pay attention to the all
- 3:51Speaker 1: caps and his truth socials, and the all caps are
- 3:53Speaker 1: no nuclear weapons, open and safe straight America is back
- 3:57Speaker 1: real agreement that I think we can rely.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Those are the headlines.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I agree with you.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I was thinking that, you know, the benefit of living
- 4:04Speaker 4: in today is day and age is that we have
- 4:06Speaker 4: no shortage of information. But the difficult part is that
- 4:09Speaker 4: things do not happen overnight. And it seems that in
- 4:12Speaker 4: the world of Twitter, and you know, sort of click
- 4:16Speaker 4: bait headlines and a very voracious left that is intent
- 4:21Speaker 4: on Trump's destruction and with it, I think the United
- 4:24Speaker 4: States destruction, that are rooting for it to fail. You
- 4:26Speaker 4: have this like rabid appetite for just quick but the
- 4:30Speaker 4: reality is things happen a little bit longer than that.
- 4:33Speaker 4: And I think we are in the time now where
- 4:35Speaker 4: the measured approach of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the
- 4:39Speaker 4: value of that cannot be overstated. That deals don't happen overnight,
- 4:42Speaker 4: That this is an enemy bent on destroying us, whose
- 4:46Speaker 4: entire identity is bent on the destruction of the West.
- 4:49Speaker 4: And it's complicated, and it's far more nuanced than a
- 4:52Speaker 4: short segment can describe. And all that to say is
- 4:55Speaker 4: that what I do have faith in is that we
- 4:58Speaker 4: are in the best hands possible. That this is a
- 5:00Speaker 4: commander in chief that has finally prioritized American interests and
- 5:03Speaker 4: the safety of our military, that has not just capitulated
- 5:06Speaker 4: or kicked the can down their own road, but actually
- 5:09Speaker 4: values making an impact for the betterment of this country.
- 5:12Speaker 4: So in this interim time, yes, I have many questions.
- 5:15Speaker 4: I also note that while we are absolutely yoked equally
- 5:18Speaker 4: with Israel in this our ally period. End of story.
- 5:22Speaker 4: There might be different objectives that they are seeking, and
- 5:24Speaker 4: so in our assessment of this foreign conflict, you know,
- 5:29Speaker 4: we might pull out at a different point. We might
- 5:31Speaker 4: have objectives satisfied at a different point and different objectives
- 5:35Speaker 4: than them, which which guides our decisions. But the point
- 5:38Speaker 4: remains that I have faith in the commander in chief,
- 5:41Speaker 4: I have faith in our foreign in our emissaries that
- 5:44Speaker 4: are dealing with a foreign negotiations. But I don't have
- 5:46Speaker 4: faith in Iran. So this piece, it will be stabilized,
- 5:51Speaker 4: I know eventually, but I'm not going to you know,
- 5:53Speaker 4: condemn or celebrate overnight like the left wants us to,
- 5:58Speaker 4: because I will wait for the measured conclusion.
- 6:01Speaker 1: David. We also wait to see what happens with NATO.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And Caroline Caroline Lovitt said yesterday that Trump would likely
- 6:08Speaker 1: bring up leaving NATO. Mark Rute was pressed about that
- 6:10Speaker 1: twice after the meeting, he sidestepped the question. Interestingly, some
- 6:14Speaker 1: pontificate because Trump cannot get out unilaterally, he needed to
- 6:17Speaker 1: their vote of the Senate that he would do this.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And now there's Wall Street Journal reporting to that effect.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Trump team explores punishment for NATO countries that didn't support
- 6:25Speaker 1: the Iran war. Socialists led Spain maybe the first.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Absolutely, Well, they're not only feckless, but they are actively
- 6:33Speaker 5: thwarting our operations. I mean they are preventing our military,
- 6:38Speaker 5: mostly our planes, to get into their bases in order.
- 6:41Speaker 5: And these are bases, by the way, that we pay
- 6:43Speaker 5: for in Europe and in other places, other territories of
- 6:47Speaker 5: the UK and Italy and France. I mean they to
- 6:51Speaker 5: First of all, the markets turned around today on the
- 6:54Speaker 5: good news that a couple of ships went through. It
- 6:57Speaker 5: started out very negative and it's now positive and all
- 6:59Speaker 5: three so that's pretty good stuff. But the bottom line
- 7:03Speaker 5: is the European economies are doing very badly because they
- 7:06Speaker 5: depend on the strait of hormones much more than we do.
- 7:10Speaker 5: They have also gone in full, full bore into these
- 7:13Speaker 5: crazy green energy plans that haven't worked out. So they're
- 7:16Speaker 5: paying four times as much for their energy as the
- 7:19Speaker 5: United States is. And we have a lot of means
- 7:23Speaker 5: to pressure them to get into the game and save
- 7:26Speaker 5: their own skin instead of ask not only asking us
- 7:29Speaker 5: to save their skin force, but then not helping at all.
- 7:32Speaker 5: And thwarting the activities we're doing to take on or in.
- 7:36Speaker 3: It's a really good point, you know. I've had to
- 7:39Speaker 3: readjust my numbers. So there are one hundred and eighty
- 7:41Speaker 3: loaded tankers that are sitting waiting to cross the Strait
- 7:44Speaker 3: of Hormones according to Kepler data. Because we've been keeping
- 7:48Speaker 3: up with that, that's one hundred and seventy two million
- 7:50Speaker 3: barrels of oil or more refined products to make things
- 7:54Speaker 3: like jet fuel with every ship that comes through. I'm
- 7:58Speaker 3: now adjusting that down to just a few more more
- 8:00Speaker 3: than one hundred and eighty.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Of those ships.
- 8:02Speaker 3: This is important and it may be slow, but I
- 8:04Speaker 3: agree with you Emily. We are a pop tart culture now.
- 8:07Speaker 3: We want everything as fast as it comes out of
- 8:09Speaker 3: the toaster on high, right, and it doesn't always work
- 8:13Speaker 3: that way. And also the best deals aren't always made
- 8:15Speaker 3: that way. So every time Iran moves the ball and
- 8:18Speaker 3: they want to add this to it, and we know
- 8:19Speaker 3: that Lebanon wasn't part of it, but we're going to
- 8:21Speaker 3: add that to it, so on and so forth. We
- 8:23Speaker 3: can add stuff too, like when is the internet getting
- 8:25Speaker 3: turned back on for all those people? And why don't
- 8:27Speaker 3: we stick Europe with the bill for that those NATO
- 8:29Speaker 3: partners who they ought to give people free internet for
- 8:32Speaker 3: the rest of time, and Iran make sure that they
- 8:34Speaker 3: can see and communicate with the rest of the world
- 8:37Speaker 3: from this day forward. I'm not kidding about that. I
- 8:39Speaker 3: mean that's punitive, yes, but it's also productive for the
- 8:42Speaker 3: people who've needed it. Yeah.
- 8:43Speaker 1: International diplomacy does not track the timeline of the cable
- 8:47Speaker 1: news cycle. So that's the takeaway exactly, all right then.
- 8:50Speaker 4: I yes, Hey everyone, I'm Emily Campano. Catch me and
