- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:03culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:06media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday
- 0:10through Thursday. I'm your host Lauren Meisner,
- 0:13the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:17All right, welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone.
- 0:20I am so sorry that I did not publish an episode on Tuesday.
- 0:24As I said on Monday, there is something so major going on in
- 0:29my business right now. It literally feels like someone
- 0:32put a curse on us. I think it's almost over.
- 0:37I think it's going to be OK, but it has literally consumed the
- 0:42last two weeks for me since all of this kind of started.
- 0:45And I just have not had the same capacity that I normally have.
- 0:50Anyways, with that being said, I also mentioned on Monday that
- 0:53there is no deep dive tomorrow. So I have a big mini scroll
- 0:57episode for you guys to make up for.
- 0:59No episode on Tuesday and no episode tomorrow And hopefully
- 1:02by next week, hopefully I'm sitting here on Monday telling
- 1:06you that everything is totally fine and we're out of the woods.
- 1:10Anyways, let's just get into the stories because like I said,
- 1:12this is going to be a long one and the first story that I have
- 1:15for you guys, it's really upsetting if it's true.
- 1:18It's going viral like everywhere right now.
- 1:21So it's definitely worth talking about.
- 1:23But I do want to give a content or a trigger warning that we are
- 1:27going to be talking about animal neglect, animal abuse, animal
- 1:32death. OK, so TikTok star Regan, 777,
- 1:37has been accused by multiple creators of killing her cat.
- 1:42So Regan Corsi is a Tik Tokker with over 4 million followers.
- 1:46She recently went viral for the Revolve Pizza slime video.
- 1:49We've covered that like a couple months ago when Revolve Fest
- 1:52happened with Coachella. So if you guys remember, Revolve
- 1:56and pizza slime teamed up together for like an after
- 1:59party, I think it was. And they had those signs and one
- 2:02of them said, you know, if you have over a million followers,
- 2:04go this way. If you have under a million
- 2:05followers, go that way. And she filmed it, showed it on
- 2:09her TikTok and her video is the one that like absolutely
- 2:11exploded. And she also left that party.
- 2:14She was like, this is actually just like disgusting and left.
- 2:18OK, so that's who Regan is. If you guys didn't know.
- 2:20Back in March 2021, she was part of the Go House in LA, which was
- 2:26basically like a content creator house for Tik Tokers where they
- 2:29vlogged their daily life. It was kind of like a game show
- 2:32style house. At the time, she adopted a cat
- 2:36named 7. So she talked about in some of
- 2:39her vlogs at the time, some of her videos that she had to keep
- 2:42the cat locked inside her bedroom because one of her
- 2:45roommates was allergic to the cat and some of them just didn't
- 2:48like the cat. They actually did a vlog where
- 2:50they were talking about how like the cat, I don't know if it
- 2:53wasn't toilet trained or if they just don't like that cats like
- 2:55go to the bathroom inside, like, you know, in their litter box.
- 2:58But either way, they were like, you know, the cat like poos and
- 3:00pees everywhere and it's like gross.
- 3:01So she kept the cat in her bedroom.
- 3:04She lived in the master bedroom. And she said it was literally
- 3:06like bigger than her apartment that she used to live in before
- 3:09she moved into the content house.
- 3:11So her cat disappeared from her content.
- 3:14And she explained on TikTok, this was again like years ago,
- 3:18which I think this TikTok has now been deleted.
- 3:20But she said that one of her roommates left the door to
- 3:23outside. Like so she her bedroom, I guess
- 3:25had like a door to outside as well, left that door open and
- 3:29the cat escaped. And I guess, you know, she said
- 3:32she was like devastated. That was kind of the end of that
- 3:34Her cat was missing. However, now this June, so this
- 3:38month, a Reddit post has started picking up some traction that
- 3:41claims that Regan quote starved her cat to death to the point
- 3:45that it died. So let me read the post again.
- 3:50Content warning, Trigger warning.
- 3:51So the post says I have it on good authority for members of
- 3:54the Go House that the cat seven that Regan had in 2021 while she
- 3:58was living in the Go House, was severely neglected and starved
- 4:02to death in her closet. Regan went out of town back to
- 4:05Texas and didn't ask anyone to look after it.
- 4:08Members of the house called Regan to ask her if she'd asked
- 4:11anyone to look after it and she said she didn't.
- 4:13The members of the house found the cat in her closet severely
- 4:16ill and took it to the vet. The vet suggested putting the
- 4:18cat down, but they said they could try and save its life with
- 4:21Ivs and stuff but it would probably be hopeless.
- 4:24They tried to save its life but it died in one of the members
- 4:27arms. When Regan came back to the
- 4:29house they lied to her and said that the cat ran away to avoid
- 4:32tension. Regan did not care at all that
- 4:35her cat quote, UN quote, ran away and said that it was quote
- 4:38probably with a better family now.
- 4:40So this post, like I said, has started to gain some traction,
- 4:43which has like brought this to her comment section and things
- 4:46like that. And now people are pointing to a
- 4:482022 podcast clip of creator Antonio Garza, who went on Larae
- 4:53and Noah Beck's podcast again back in 2022 where Antonio said
- 4:59that she knows a Tik toker who killed her cat.
- 5:02Now with this Reddit story, everyone's like, oh, so that was
- 5:04about Reagan. So Reagan has now addressed this
- 5:06on TikTok. There's this podcast going
- 5:08around saying that I killed my cat, the story so many times on
- 5:11social media and then people comment things about it and say
- 5:14that I like killed my cat, that I starved my cat, that XYZ.
- 5:18I'm guessing because of this podcast because I've always
- 5:20wondered where that came from. Because keep in mind too, I live
- 5:23with 10 people so anyone can like they would all know if I
- 5:26killed my cat and none of them would hang out with me
- 5:28afterwards. And then now, of course, there's
- 5:30so much discourse on Reddit. A new Reddit user has shared
- 5:33photos and videos that they claimed came from one of Regan's
- 5:36roommates at the go house, where they say the cat looks really
- 5:39matted and malnourished. So in this situation between
- 5:43these two stories, a lot of people seem to think that Regan
- 5:46just like does think that the cat ran away, but that there is
- 5:49still a possibility, of course, that like her roommates actually
- 5:52did take the cat to the vet and it did just pass away.
- 5:55And they just never ended up telling her to avoid that
- 5:58tension. So now Antonio Garza has posted
- 6:01a TikTok to address the clip going viral of them saying that
- 6:06they knew a TikTok or that killed their cat because she, I
- 6:09guess, at the time, got like a lot of hate and like a lot of
- 6:13comments saying that she was a liar and that was like a
- 6:15horrible thing to say. So now she's made a TikTok
- 6:17basically saying, like, turns out, I guess I wasn't a liar.
- 6:21She said that it was just a rumor she had heard.
- 6:24She didn't know it first hand, but she did apologize in this
- 6:27TikTok for spreading the rumor on the podcast.
- 6:29But again, said she kind of feels a bit like vindicated.
- 6:32And then Haley Sharp posted a TikTok saying that she's known
- 6:36about Regan neglecting her cat for three years.
- 6:38So again, Haley Sharp is a big Tik Toker.
- 6:41And then more to the story, Regan's former roommate from the
- 6:45go house, Jacob, came forward and said that the allegations
- 6:50were true. And he actually said that he was
- 6:52the one who rescued the cat. He said he rescued the cat with
- 6:54his mom. So his mom was visiting.
- 6:57They went to go see the cat. The cat was super malnourished.
- 6:59And his mom was like, we need to take this to the vet.
- 7:03And they went and took the cat to the vet.
- 7:04So Regan has been getting, of course, a lot of hate and she
- 7:08has made some follow up videos. One of the videos she posted
- 7:12like photos and clips where you can see time stamps to show like
- 7:16between when the cat ran away, which she still says her cat ran
- 7:19away. So between when she says the cat
- 7:21ran away and like days leading up to it, she, you know, you can
- 7:24see her cat and she's like this cat doesn't look malnourished as
- 7:27you can see, like she looks healthy here.
- 7:29She's not matted. I think the general consensus is
- 7:32that everyone involved is somewhat at fault.
- 7:35To which degree is I don't think we'll ever know.
- 7:39I think it is possible that Regan genuinely thinks her cat
- 7:42ran away. Whether that's true or not, also
- 7:44who knows, but that is what is going down.
- 7:47So if you are seeing people say that Regan 777 killed her cat,
- 7:51that is why they are saying that.
- 7:53It's a very sad story and I genuinely do just hope that
- 7:57Seven ran away and is with a new family.
- 8:01I hope she was rescued by someone else.
- 8:03Anyways, on to the next story. This is a quick one, but Ariana
- 8:08Grande has responded to questions about her changing
- 8:11voice. So obviously this is like a
- 8:13constant. I mean, aside from like her
- 8:16black scent, I don't think she was addressing that.
- 8:18She was addressing like the octave that her voice speaks in.
- 8:22But as we know, she is completely erased.
- 8:25Her black scent, her fake black scent, obviously because she's
- 8:27white when she it seems like it was kind of like around the
- 8:31arrow when she started to get with Dalton and picked up the
- 8:35Glinda role. I think.
- 8:36So we talked about I think it was Monday, Ariana Grande went
- 8:39on Penn Badgley's podcast pod Crushed.
- 8:43And so a clip of her on this podcast, you know, obviously
- 8:46he's on TikTok. It's, you know, getting a lot of
- 8:48views, whatever. And there's a lot of comments
- 8:50about how her voice sounds so different.
- 8:52So she responded to someone who asked why her voice sounds like
- 8:56this, how she changed her voice like this.
- 8:58She wrote habit brackets speaking like this for two years
- 9:02and also vocal health smiley. I intentionally changed my vocal
- 9:06placement high slash low often depending on how much singing
- 9:09I'm doing. I've always done this.
- 9:11Bye. I would actually die.
- 9:17I would, I, I think I would just have to like erase myself from
- 9:20the Internet if Ariana Grande commented back to me in kind of
- 9:24like a defensive, snarky way. Like it wasn't, you know, it
- 9:27wasn't like malicious or mean by any means.
- 9:30But imagine Ariana Grande, like imagine a celebrity that big
- 9:34commented back to you and was like, can you shut up?
- 9:37Basically, I would die. Okay.
- 9:41This is also a very, very short story and it's not even like
- 9:45really a story. It's just something that has
- 9:47been all over my for you page and it's actually been like
- 9:49happening to me too. And I just wanted to point it
- 9:52out. I feel like it's really funny
- 9:54and super niche, but I also would love to know if any of you
- 9:58guys are experiencing this. So there's like a mystery going
- 10:01on. People are like, what is
- 10:02happening? Because Pookie's old Instagram
- 10:04photos have been like pushed to everyone's explore pages.
- 10:08And so if you don't know who Pookie is, that is Campbell
- 10:10Puckett. She is, you know, Pookie from
- 10:14Jet. And Pookie, like Pookie looks
- 10:17fired tonight. You know, she's an influencer
- 10:19anyways. And obviously, her and her
- 10:21husband went viral earlier. I think it was earlier this
- 10:23year. I think it was this year.
- 10:25I have no sense of time. I think it was this year, maybe
- 10:28at the end of last year because you know, he's always like,
- 10:31Pookie looks fired tonight. So everyone calls her Pookie.
- 10:35Anyways. She has, of course, like
- 10:37exploded because they went viral all over TikTok and now on
- 10:41Instagram. For some reason, Instagram is
- 10:44serving everyone. These really, really old photos
- 10:48of her from her Instagram people are like, what vendetta does
- 10:51Mark Zuckerberg have against Pookie to be serving us these
- 10:55photos? The first one that came up for
- 10:57me on my Explorer was like a couple weeks ago.
- 10:59I actually took a screenshot of it and I was about to send it to
- 11:01one of my friends to be like what the fuck?
- 11:03Why is this on my explore page? Because it was literally from
- 11:06like 2015 or whenever her and Jack got engaged.
- 11:09I don't think it was that long ago, but it was like a long time
- 11:11ago. It was years and years ago.
- 11:13It was like their engagement photo and it is so bizarre, like
- 11:17the oldest photos and it's just her like everybody on TikTok is
- 11:21like literally I get them all the time, but I don't get anyone
- 11:24else's old photos. I don't even follow Campbell.
- 11:27Why am I getting these photos? And it's the exact same for me.
- 11:30I'm like, I keep getting these pictures of her from like 2016
- 11:34and I'm like, why am I getting this?
- 11:36And it's just jarring. Like you, you notice it in your
- 11:38explorer because you know, 2015, 2016, 2017, even like 2018
- 11:44content on Instagram is so different than it is now.
- 11:49The content was like so over filtered.
- 11:51The poses we used to do, we used to take it so seriously, even
- 11:55just like the average user. So it's really funny to see
- 11:57because it really stands out on the explorer page because it's
- 12:00just so like off brand for what were you seeing these days?
- 12:04So let me know, OK. The next story that I have is
- 12:07that Chapel Roan is being accused of being an industry
- 12:11plant. Again, this is just like a high
- 12:14level people are saying this. I don't think there's like one
- 12:17specific person that's like started this rumor.
- 12:20So as we know, Chapel Roan has been like exploding in the last
- 12:25month. Like it's literally just been
- 12:26like a few weeks and she's everywhere.
- 12:29And of course, when anything like that happens, when someone
- 12:32finally gets their big break in the era of TikTok, everyone just
- 12:36likes to say that's an industry plant.
- 12:37It's kind of like when somebody who comes from like a really
- 12:40wealthy family, it gets called a neppo baby because they make it
- 12:44in Hollywood or whatever. And it's like that's actually
- 12:46not the same thing. Like nepotism is when you have
- 12:50benefits from like your parents being in the same industry.
- 12:53Like you don't need to be wealthy to be a neppo baby.
- 12:54Like if your family owns any type of like a restaurant, for
- 12:59example, and you get a job as a waitress at that restaurant,
- 13:03like that's nepotism. You're a neppo baby.
- 13:06So, you know, people use it like interchangeably and I think they
- 13:09use almost like overnight success interchangeably with
- 13:13industry plant because it's hard for people to wrap their heads
- 13:16around. I think like exploding that
- 13:18quickly and it feels like kind of out of nowhere.
- 13:20But that's just not the case with Chapel Roan.
- 13:23Like she has been hustling since 2017.
- 13:26And I, I don't know, I didn't Fact Check this, but I heard
- 13:29that this album was like her last attempt at music.
- 13:32She was like one last effort and then I'll throw in the towel and
- 13:36figure it out. So obviously her album, it
- 13:41worked out. But yes, this is obviously like
- 13:43this album in this moment for her is obviously her big break.
- 13:47But she has been going at this. And for me, I discovered Chapel
- 13:50Roan, like I don't know, maybe six months ago, maybe even a
- 13:54little bit longer than that, just because Spotify was putting
- 13:58her in playlist. I don't have my own playlist.
- 14:00Like I feel like I'm like the only person in the world that
- 14:03has Spotify and doesn't make their own playlist.
- 14:05I just let Spotify like make the playlist for me and I just
- 14:07listen to whatever. So obviously it's so in line
- 14:10with the type of music I like. Like my number one genre is
- 14:14lesbian pop Peach. PRC is my number one artist
- 14:18every single year. That genre, just there's just
- 14:20something about it. It's just like my favorite
- 14:22genre. So obviously she has been in my
- 14:25Spotify curated, you know, for a little while now.
- 14:29It's funny because I've also seen people say, well, Spotify
- 14:32is like, weirdly pushing her music.
- 14:34Is she paying someone at Spotify to do that?
- 14:37And it's like, before last year, Chapel Rowan was living with
- 14:41roommates in New York City. Like, she doesn't have the money
- 14:45to be paying Spotify, like, low key to push her music and put it
- 14:49in different playlists. Like, her music is just fucking
- 14:51sick. And she went on tour with Olivia
- 14:54Rodrigo. So that was going to raise her
- 14:55public profile and there's just so many like she's just been
- 14:59doing this for years, like years and years and years.
- 15:02And it's finally just paid off. And I think that's what we see
- 15:05in just every type of like success story.
- 15:07You just never see the years behind that.
- 15:10Well, you guys see the years. If I ever blow up, you have seen
- 15:13the years. But you know what I mean?
- 15:15Like it's that kind of slog that you just don't, we just don't
- 15:19see normally. But yes, she is literally the
- 15:22artist of the moment, the artist on everyone's lips.
- 15:24I'm obsessed with her. Her music just like makes me
- 15:27feel hopeful for the future and I don't even know why.
- 15:30I don't know if it's just because her music, like so much
- 15:32of it feels like it's like a celebration of life.
- 15:35I don't know what it is, but I'm freaking obsessed with her.
- 15:38I'm obsessed with her. I'm obsessed with her vibe.
- 15:40And yeah, like listening to her music and watching her perform.
- 15:44I haven't seen her live obviously, but like watching her
- 15:46perform on TikTok and stuff like it makes me feel hopeful.
- 15:50And how many things in this world can you say make you feel
- 15:54hopeful? That's why she's such a success.
- 15:57All right, so the last story that I have for you guys is I
- 16:00wanted to break down some of the drama.
- 16:02Well, I guess like the full story, the full picture of all
- 16:05the drama with the family channel.
- 16:06OK, baby, I like, don't you guys think there's something going on
- 16:10with family channels in the sense that it's like beauty
- 16:13YouTube was like the most popular most, Sorry, I don't
- 16:17want to say most popular because I think that's kind of like an
- 16:20oversimplification. But the most popular corner of
- 16:25the creator economy. And what I mean by that is they
- 16:28the beauty Youtubers who are at the top of that industry became
- 16:32like mainstream famous. Like there's probably corners,
- 16:34I'm sure like tech and gaming that, you know, got more views,
- 16:38but those creators didn't become as famous as the beauty
- 16:42Youtubers of our time. And now I feel like we have
- 16:48passed that like fame baton on to the family channels.
- 16:53Even though we are more critical of family channels than ever.
- 16:56There is something going on with like the level of fame that
- 17:00these family and like notoriety and mainstream attention that
- 17:02these family channels are getting.
- 17:04And I'm part of it because I'm always reporting on like what's
- 17:07going on with the latest family channels.
- 17:08But it's it's weird. It's very, very, I don't know,
- 17:12it's a very interesting transition.
- 17:14I wonder if it's partly because most of those family channels
- 17:18would be like millennial. And so like millennials, we were
- 17:21such a YouTube generation and we of course are kind of at that
- 17:26same stage of life as them. Like, you know, maybe a lot of
- 17:29us probably have kids and are getting married and stuff.
- 17:31So we're interested in family channels now.
- 17:33I don't know what it is, but family channels are having this
- 17:37like, really famous moment where people care a lot about like
- 17:41what these people are doing in a way that they never used to
- 17:43before. And I find it both very
- 17:47fascinating and also kind of insidious.
- 17:49However, with OK Baby, they actually don't show their
- 17:53children on camera anymore. So I feel OK reporting on this.
- 17:58OK. So OK, Baby was started by a
- 18:00couple, Kira and Oscar. They had a baby as teenagers.
- 18:04So they basically, you know, started their channel
- 18:06documenting that experience. And then they went on to have
- 18:10more children together, three more children together.
- 18:12So they have four children total together.
- 18:14And they were basically just like vlogging their lives.
- 18:17They reached over 1,000,000 subscribers.
- 18:19Like, they're quite well known in this space.
- 18:22Kira also had a podcast with her best friend named Hannah.
- 18:25So Hannah was engaged to a man named Preston.
- 18:29It's also apparently reported that they might have gotten
- 18:33married, but like, just didn't make that publicly known.
- 18:35But either way, they were, you know, engaged or married.
- 18:38And Oscar and Preston sometimes featured on their podcast
- 18:42together doing like, couples episodes and things like that.
- 18:45So they were like, a little foursome.
- 18:47In January 2022, Kira and Oscar posted a video saying that they
- 18:52broke up. And I don't think that this came
- 18:56as a huge surprise to viewers. I think just based on like how
- 19:00they had been interacting in different videos and their
- 19:02content and stuff, it seemed like something was definitely
- 19:04up. So Kira faced a lot of backlash
- 19:06for this video, for her like behavior in this video, people
- 19:10said she seemed really cold. She seemed shut off, like she
- 19:14seemed like she just didn't care anymore and it was made clear
- 19:18that the split was her idea. Despite breaking up, they still
- 19:22tried to vlog on OK Baby, but like it was obviously weird.
- 19:26So they've just kind of over the last couple of years really
- 19:28started posting more unlike their own channels.
- 19:31So shortly after this video in 2022 in January, it came out
- 19:35that Kira and Preston were together.
- 19:39So remember, Preston was engaged or married, not sure, but at
- 19:43least engaged to Kira's best friend, Hannah.
- 19:47OK, so that was like a huge controversy.
- 19:50Obviously, their friendship ended, their podcast ended.
- 19:54And then at the end of 2022, Kira addressed this whole
- 19:58situation on her Instagram Stories.
- 20:00She wrote, I did not cheat on Oscar.
- 20:02We had a ton of problems behind the scenes.
- 20:04And it had a few times prior to this that we almost broke up,
- 20:07which also includes him leaving me.
- 20:09Preston did not leave Hannah for me.
- 20:12Hannah and I are no longer friends, although I truly love
- 20:15her and think she's one of the best people to ever walk this
- 20:17planet. But then last year she did post
- 20:19a video saying she regrets how she handled her split.
- 20:22Like in hindsight, hindsight, retrospect, retrospect.
- 20:26And one month ago Kira and Preston announced that they are
- 20:31pregnant. So she is having baby #5 with
- 20:34her best friend's ex fiance. And now this is where it kind of
- 20:39all comes to a head this week is Hannah has been calling her out.
- 20:43So Hannah released a GoFundMe recently to cover up her
- 20:47matching tattoos that she got with Kira.
- 20:51And this actually worked out really well.
- 20:52Like, fans were really excited to support her and to send her
- 20:55money. A lot of people were like,
- 20:57really supportive of this. And she got her GoFundMe.
- 21:00She actually got more than what she was asking for.
- 21:02So she's donating the remainder of that to charity, apparently.
- 21:05But she also then shared a poem on TikTok.
- 21:09And the poem clip that she posted, like, it was just text.
- 21:13The poem clip, though, opened with an audio of Kira on their
- 21:17podcast when they used to do their podcast together saying
- 21:21that home wreckers deserve slut shaming and just like, talking
- 21:25so much shit about home wreckers.
- 21:27And then it opens to this poem. So the poem that Hannah wrote
- 21:31was inspired by Kendrick Lamar's distract against Drake,
- 21:34euphoria. I can't, I can't like what is
- 21:39going on. OK, so here's like a little tiny
- 21:42snippet of the poem. It's pretty long.
- 21:44I'm not going to read it all but it says her follower count
- 21:47getting neutralized. I can only watch in silence.
- 21:49The family Blogger we once knew is looking desperate and now
- 21:52spiraling, moving just like a charlatan selling lies.
- 21:56It's giving disgraceful. Why educate?
- 21:58You're not educated pregnancy, you're only angle.
- 22:03So Kira has not responded to Hannah's poem or anything.
- 22:08This is like the first time that Hannah's like speaking out about
- 22:11this situation really. So, you know, people are like
- 22:13open to hearing, of course, like what she went through and people
- 22:17are quite supportive of her. But yeah, like, I, I mean,
- 22:20Kira's definitely not going to respond.
- 22:22She's doing like ask me anythings on her Instagram story
- 22:25right now. Like ask me a question.
- 22:27I'm sure she's getting 1000 questions about how she feels
- 22:30about this poem and things like that, but she's just ignoring
- 22:33it. I don't think that she will
- 22:35probably address it again. She's addressed the whole
- 22:37situation a couple of times and I think that this is probably
- 22:41like she's ready to put it to bed.
- 22:43But anyways, that's what's going on on the Internet right now.
