- 0:01Speaker 1: Now the Guardian Angel of talk radio is here.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Curtis Leewah guest host the Mark Simone Show on seven
- 0:09Speaker 2: to ten.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Woor foul.
- 0:21Speaker 2: This is an early Christmas present for me to be
- 0:26Speaker 2: back on talk radio and the station that I listened
- 0:30Speaker 2: to all the time now war and to be substituting
- 0:34Speaker 2: for the best talk show hosts in all of New
- 0:36Speaker 2: York City, March Simon. Nobody's been doing it longer, and
- 0:39Speaker 2: nobody's been doing it better. I worked with March Simon
- 0:44Speaker 2: over at WABC, and then he was a competitor against me.
- 0:49Speaker 2: So is nobody who knows talk radio better than March Simon.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So it's a real honor to be able to come
- 0:57Speaker 2: in and substitute for this life. And having met with
- 1:02Speaker 2: Tom Cutty, who's the program director who I knew at WPLJ.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I remember what happened when Cumulus, who owned a cluster
- 1:10Speaker 2: of stations, they had decided that they wanted to get
- 1:13Speaker 2: out of the business in New York. That made no
- 1:15Speaker 2: sense to me, and they turned off the lights on
- 1:18Speaker 2: the most iconic FM.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Station with the call letters WPLJ.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Couldn't believe that, and Tom then obviously was picked up
- 1:28Speaker 2: by wor has been a great program director here and
- 1:32Speaker 2: I've had an opportunity to sample all of the hosts
- 1:37Speaker 2: and presenters here at WOOR from Larry Menty in the
- 1:41Speaker 2: Morning was so kind to me during the election cycle
- 1:45Speaker 2: to obviously mark them all my biggest fan. Both in
- 1:48Speaker 2: twenty twenty one when I ran from mayor against Eric Adams,
- 1:52Speaker 2: and I did warn you, didn't I say, is he
- 1:54Speaker 2: that he would be a crook and there would be chaos,
- 1:58Speaker 2: But nobody wanted to listen. Everybody said to me, you
- 2:01Speaker 2: were right, we should have listened. Yeah, you should have listened.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And we suffered, and as a result of his massive failure,
- 2:09Speaker 2: we ended up with Johann Mondami. We're gonna get into
- 2:12Speaker 2: all of that and a lot of the background that
- 2:14Speaker 2: went into clearly what is the most historic press I said,
- 2:20Speaker 2: president setting election that has ever taken place in the
- 2:23Speaker 2: City of New York for mayor. It took on international, national, regional,
- 2:28Speaker 2: and local ramifications for a number of reasons. We're going
- 2:31Speaker 2: to explore all of that, and I'm going to dig
- 2:35Speaker 2: up the bones, because nobody knows where the bones are
- 2:39Speaker 2: buried more than courteously, and I will dig them up
- 2:42Speaker 2: and I will expose a lot of folks and what
- 2:45Speaker 2: they did during this election cycle to prevent a fair
- 2:51Speaker 2: square election in which people could go into the voting
- 2:54Speaker 2: booths and choose candidates based on the issues. On this
- 3:00Speaker 2: desire to have you constantly play dropout, dropout, drop out,
- 3:05Speaker 2: drop out.
- 3:06Speaker 3: We're going to get into all of that.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And as you heard at the top of the news hour,
- 3:10Speaker 2: iHeart again this powerful owner of so many radio stations
- 3:14Speaker 2: in the nation to be able to broadcast here as
- 3:18Speaker 2: I have from many of the different programs both on
- 3:20Speaker 2: FM and AM over the years as a guest, and
- 3:23Speaker 2: to hear Larry the news Guy talk about where I
- 3:27Speaker 2: will be at two o'clock this afternoon. It is a
- 3:31Speaker 2: story that the local officials in New York City want
- 3:36Speaker 2: to go away.
- 3:38Speaker 3: It is the.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Most horrific case that has ever occurred, a tragedy, a crime,
- 3:47Speaker 2: an act of.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Barbaric proportion.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And in all my years of writing, the subways, and
- 3:54Speaker 2: I've been riding the subway since I was five years
- 3:56Speaker 2: old by myself nineteen fifty nine, took my first ride
- 3:59Speaker 2: on the L train. L stood for Lousey Line, Rockaway Parkway,
- 4:04Speaker 2: last stop in Kenarsi, where I was raised and I've
- 4:07Speaker 2: been riding ever since. It'll be forty seven years in
- 4:10Speaker 2: February since I started the Guardian Angels to protect people
- 4:15Speaker 2: both in the subways and streets here, across the nation
- 4:18Speaker 2: and in thirteen countries around the world, and increasingly having
- 4:24Speaker 2: to come to the aid of women like the brin
- 4:27Speaker 2: and Kowam. Yeah, the Brina Kowam was homeless, emotionally disturbed,
- 4:33Speaker 2: like so many who live in the subways, and she
- 4:35Speaker 2: was sent on fire by that illegal alien, Sebastian Zepeta
- 4:41Speaker 2: that we were housing in a homeless shelter at great
- 4:44Speaker 2: expense in East New York Samaritan House. I thought they
- 4:48Speaker 2: took care of people with drug issues, but they were
- 4:50Speaker 2: making a lot of money at our taxpayer's expense. And
- 4:53Speaker 2: he was a pyromaniac. We're going to go into all
- 4:55Speaker 2: of those details, but this is what I.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Do on a race basis.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Since the moment that I lost the election, I haven't
- 5:04Speaker 2: missed the beat. I've been down in the subways and
- 5:06Speaker 2: in the streets and taking care of those poor lost souls,
- 5:11Speaker 2: the homeless, the emotionally disturbed, who shouldn't be there, and
- 5:15Speaker 2: yet they live there. They reside there, no matter who
- 5:17Speaker 2: the mayor was, whether it was Comrade Bildeblasio, the part
- 5:21Speaker 2: time mayor of the Dope from Park Slope, along with
- 5:24Speaker 2: his grift of wife Charline. We'll talk about that later on,
- 5:28Speaker 2: because he owes US one and a half billion dollars
- 5:33Speaker 2: money that was taken for a program called Thrive that
- 5:36Speaker 2: was supposed to help the emotionally disturb. I don't ever
- 5:39Speaker 2: remember one person having been helped, and then by Eric
- 5:44Speaker 2: Adams Swagerman.
- 5:45Speaker 3: With no plan.
- 5:46Speaker 2: By the way, where is he? What country is Eric Adams?
- 5:50Speaker 2: The cor up one in today? Sort of like when
- 5:53Speaker 2: Matt Lower used to do the morning show at NBC.
- 5:55Speaker 2: You know what country is Matt Lwer in?
- 5:57Speaker 3: Today?
- 5:58Speaker 2: This guy is, I mean, a grifter like you can't believe,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and oo far soon he will be gone. But I
- 6:08Speaker 2: also want to talk about what happened behind the scenes,
- 6:14Speaker 2: and I'm doing it on a radio station Wor of
- 6:17Speaker 2: which I made my very first appearance back in nineteen
- 6:21Speaker 2: seventy one, having been named the newspaper Boy of the Year,
- 6:24Speaker 2: having delivered the daily news like so many people did,
- 6:28Speaker 2: and growing up saved five people in a burning building
- 6:31Speaker 2: at that time that got the attention of then President
- 6:35Speaker 2: Richard Nixon, got an award in the White House, and
- 6:39Speaker 2: then my very first interview upon my return to New
- 6:42Speaker 2: York City was at fourteen forty Broadway, the mid morning
- 6:46Speaker 2: show hosted by Arlene Francis. Boy, I've had the bug
- 6:51Speaker 2: ever since talking on radio. So actually WOOR provided me
- 6:56Speaker 2: my baptism.
- 6:58Speaker 3: In radio with my very first interview.
- 7:00Speaker 2: As they escorted me around, I look at all the
- 7:02Speaker 2: various studios, the news room that had many men and
- 7:06Speaker 2: women that were processing the news back then, and it's
- 7:10Speaker 2: one of the most iconic symbols of talk radio in
- 7:15Speaker 2: the nation. With only three call letters WR everybody else right,
- 7:21Speaker 2: it's four like where I was from where I spent
- 7:24Speaker 2: most of my life in talk radio WABC close to
- 7:28Speaker 2: thirty years. There were some other stations in between. You
- 7:33Speaker 2: know how long you've been in talk radio by the
- 7:35Speaker 2: number of radio stations that you've worked at. But WABC
- 7:39Speaker 2: was the bulk of my time there. In all different
- 7:42Speaker 2: time slots. Morning Drive, it was Angels in the Morning
- 7:46Speaker 2: with my wife Lisa at that time. Then there was
- 7:50Speaker 2: a spot morning Drive with Ron Koby, whose Mommy was
- 7:52Speaker 2: a comedy for many years. I did mid mornings, I
- 7:56Speaker 2: did overnights, I did weekends. I was always available twenty
- 8:01Speaker 2: four to seven, three sixty five, so that the acronym
- 8:04Speaker 2: stood for WABC, always broadcasting Curtis and so going into
- 8:09Speaker 2: this election cycle, early on, I made it very clear
- 8:13Speaker 2: that I would seek the Republican nomination a run for
- 8:17Speaker 2: mayor again, as I did in twenty twenty one. By
- 8:20Speaker 2: the way, with no help from WABC back then. None
- 8:24Speaker 2: people should know that the orders came from management and
- 8:28Speaker 2: ownership that you were not to talk about Curtis Leewel
- 8:30Speaker 2: when he was running for mayor. In fact, you were
- 8:32Speaker 2: not to interview Curtis Lee were back in twenty twenty one,
- 8:35Speaker 2: there was a.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Big sign in the newsroom.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I mean, let's just say. There was no excuse for that.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And I wasn't supported by anybody. They were at WABC
- 8:48Speaker 2: running for mayor. Although they weren't insulting, they weren't personally
- 8:53Speaker 2: attacking me. The owner and operator John Katchamatidis was supporting
- 8:58Speaker 2: Eric Adams. Everyone was under the IMPRESSI that he was
- 9:00Speaker 2: supporting me, because he would say, oh, with family here, Curtis,
- 9:04Speaker 2: he knows more about the city than everyone else.
- 9:07Speaker 3: And let's face it, that's true.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Whether you like my politics or not, whether you like
- 9:11Speaker 2: my style or not, there's nobody who knows more about
- 9:14Speaker 2: the City of New York to me. But as it
- 9:20Speaker 2: goes from twenty twenty one to twenty twenty five, the
- 9:24Speaker 2: drum beat for me to drop out, and boy was
- 9:27Speaker 2: a steady drum beat from June. Excuse me, make that
- 9:32Speaker 2: just about July fourth, on.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Our nation's birthday.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I remember, I was in Travis Staten Island, as I
- 9:39Speaker 2: am every year with the Guardian Angels, the longest running
- 9:42Speaker 2: Fourth of July parade in the nation. Eric Adams was
- 9:46Speaker 2: out there because he had been reborn, resurrected with the
- 9:51Speaker 2: failure of Andrew Cuomo, who threw in the tow when
- 9:57Speaker 2: losing convincingly to Zorhan Mondami. Just give you an idea.
- 10:01Speaker 2: On March first, when Andrew cmo announced that he was
- 10:04Speaker 2: running for Maya for the Democratic nomination, he was clocking
- 10:08Speaker 2: at forty percent in the polls. Zorhan Mandami was dead
- 10:11Speaker 2: last in the Democratic primary at one percent. By June
- 10:15Speaker 2: twenty fourth, Zoron Mondami had beat him by thirteen percent
- 10:19Speaker 2: because Andrew Cuomo mailed it in didn't run any kind
- 10:23Speaker 2: of a campaign, and so they resurrected Eric Adams, who
- 10:27Speaker 2: chose not to run. And this guy, right out of
- 10:31Speaker 2: the box, brought all the crooks back into the house
- 10:34Speaker 2: of Eric Adams and they were getting wind dined in
- 10:36Speaker 2: pocket lined by.
- 10:37Speaker 3: The real estate interests.
- 10:38Speaker 2: And he crashed and burned and dropped out in September
- 10:43Speaker 2: and then boy died. They ratchet it up the masters
- 10:47Speaker 2: of the universe, the billionaires. John Casimatidis, owner and operator
- 10:52Speaker 2: who was the the maestro of the orchestra that was
- 10:56Speaker 2: constantly banging a drum that critically had to drop out,
- 11:00Speaker 2: drop out for the good of the city.
- 11:02Speaker 3: And I remember he.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Was saying, Oh, I'm gonna leave, I'm gonna sell my businesses.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I'm down in Florida.
- 11:10Speaker 2: The moment Zohan Mandami was announced the winner on November fourth,
- 11:14Speaker 2: all of a sudden he would saying, oh, we got
- 11:15Speaker 2: to work with the mayor.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Oh for the good of the city.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Because these billionaires, along with Ackman and others, made it
- 11:23Speaker 2: seem like they would be fear fright, hysteria, and all
- 11:27Speaker 2: they did was hype that every day.
- 11:29Speaker 3: But you see, they always back channel. They always have
- 11:31Speaker 3: a backdoor.
- 11:32Speaker 2: They always have a way to survive, whereas the working
- 11:36Speaker 2: class people that I represented in this election, because of
- 11:39Speaker 2: the fear in the fright, they had no options. So
- 11:43Speaker 2: it was an election cycle dominated by the masters of
- 11:47Speaker 2: the universe. Donald Trump, the President, was no friend of mine.
- 11:51Speaker 2: He went out of his way to disparage me on
- 11:53Speaker 2: a regular basis. Talked about was Curtis a Republican? Is
- 11:57Speaker 2: he is he really? Is he ready for prime time?
- 12:00Speaker 2: And what about all those cats he and his wife
- 12:03Speaker 2: Nancy have rescued and kept from being euthanized in shelters.
- 12:09Speaker 2: So many people out there who do that for dogs
- 12:12Speaker 2: and cats. He disparaged really a nation of dog and
- 12:16Speaker 2: cat lovers, But he went out of his way to
- 12:18Speaker 2: disparage me, along with Elin Musk and Steve Miller and
- 12:22Speaker 2: so many of the other masters of the universe and
- 12:25Speaker 2: the billionaires that he came down in the last few
- 12:27Speaker 2: weeks with twenty million dollars spent in advertising, the word
- 12:32Speaker 2: was a vote for Sliwa is a vote for Joran Mandami,
- 12:36Speaker 2: vote for Andrew evilized Coomo, a guy responsible for the
- 12:41Speaker 2: deaths of fifteen thousand elderly people.
- 12:43Speaker 3: At the height of the.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Pandemic and the lockdown, and a man was still paying
- 12:50Speaker 2: his victims for sexual harassment, thirteen of them who worked
- 12:54Speaker 2: for him, including a female state trooper, and the bill
- 12:58Speaker 2: will probably get up to sixty million dollars. And once again,
- 13:01Speaker 2: you know, whenever you speak to Eric Adams, I'm not guilty.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I didn't do anything wrong. Andrew Cuomo, I didn't do
- 13:11Speaker 2: anything wrong. Donald Trump, I didn't do anything wrong. Nobody
- 13:13Speaker 2: does anything wrong. I'm somebody who is a lot different
- 13:17Speaker 2: when I do things wrong. When I mess up, I
- 13:19Speaker 2: fess up. And I certainly had a lot of opportunities
- 13:21Speaker 2: in my life.
- 13:22Speaker 3: To do that. But this is an opportunity for all
- 13:26Speaker 3: of you to be hurt. In the words my.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Great mentor Bob Grant, who actually was broadcasting here at
- 13:33Speaker 2: w OR on two separate occasions, which we'll get into.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Later on, feel free to give me a cause.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Welcome back to the airwaves of New York City and
- 13:43Speaker 2: the Tri state area and beyond one of the most
- 13:46Speaker 2: powerful radio stations that have ever been created in this nation.
- 13:51Speaker 3: WOR.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Give a call to eight hundred three two one zero
- 13:56Speaker 2: seven ten. That's eight hundred three two one zero seven ten,
- 14:05Speaker 2: and there's so much more to tell you about all
- 14:08Speaker 2: my fairweather friends at WABC, which the acronym has become,
- 14:12Speaker 2: always blaming Curtis and always bashing Curtis. You don't want
- 14:19Speaker 2: to go anywhere, keep it right here at seven ten
- 14:21Speaker 2: wor
