- 1:16OK, so school. Oh my goodness, school was such
- 1:19a difficult one for me. So I've been through school and
- 1:22in college and in university. And so because of that, I was
- 1:25able to create what I think are essential items checklist for
- 1:29that. If you want to have a successful
- 1:30time at school or in an educational system, this is for
- 1:33you. So buckle up guys, we'll go
- 1:34through the list right now. Just before that, I want to say
- 1:37a big thanks to Brillia, which is this week's sponsor for this
- 1:40video. Brillia, A homeopathic non
- 1:42prescription based medication, which is completely cool because
- 1:45it's way more natural than some of the other stuff I've taken
- 1:48and and it's non addictive. There's no nasties in it.
- 1:51It's cool for helping increase clarity, improve concentration
- 1:55and reduce anxiety, restlessness, stress and
- 1:58irritability and impulsivity, which is, you know, for me for
- 2:01God's sense. So if you want to check out
- 2:02brilliant yourself, I have a discount code for 15% off if you
- 2:06use the code ASP 15 link is in the description down below.
- 2:10But FYI guys, if you are thinking about trying it, just
- 2:12always consult with your doctor first before trying anything,
- 2:14even if it is more natural. OK, so the first thing I want to
- 2:17say is that you have to have a tablet.
- 2:19Now, I'm not about tablet as in like, you know, something, a
- 2:22pill or something. I don't know about tablet as in
- 2:24an iPad or a Samsung tablet or an Android tablet.
- 2:27What I found most interesting is that when I'm attending lectures
- 2:31or when I'm attending anything in school, if I had my iPad with
- 2:33me, I could actually turn on the record button to record the
- 2:36audio of the actual class. So I could go back home and
- 2:39listen over something that I may not have got perfectly right
- 2:42while sitting in the class. Because there's this thing
- 2:44called alexithymia, which causes for a lot of delay in
- 2:46understanding what's actually going on in that moment in time.
- 2:48But to cut a Long story short, using the recording was so easy
- 2:52to just listen back to when I'm going over my revision notes.
- 2:55Something else that I found super interesting about having
- 2:57the tablet with me is that there was something important on the
- 3:00whiteboard or a slideshow that I could take my camera app and
- 3:03just take a picture of a snapshot of that.
- 3:04And I have that then saved to my notes.
- 3:07Not to mention you can always use talk to type apps on stuff
- 3:12like the I know that Apple do it where you talk to it and it will
- 3:14automatically type out what you're saying in your notes,
- 3:16which is really good for people who have an issue with typing or
- 3:19writing really fast. I found this super beneficial.
- 3:21So that is like literally #1 The second thing I'd say is having a
- 3:25sensory toolbox with you. Now, I don't mean having
- 3:27anything crazy, but a few fidget gadgets or maybe even just like
- 3:31a pair of noise cancelling headphones and sunglasses.
- 3:34Something that is going to help you overcome sensory stimulated
- 3:37issues of potential issues in a setting of educational
- 3:42environment could be the lighter too bright.
- 3:44It could be that there's too much noise going on, or maybe
- 3:46each one like self soothe with like a STEM toy.
- 3:48Having something like that is super beneficial and I highly
- 3:51recommend it. OK, so #3 is a buddy system.
- 3:54Now this is really interesting. You don't have to be best
- 3:57friends with a person, but you need to make a buddy or have the
- 4:00school or the educational buddy team you up with somebody who
- 4:02knows the ropes or who can look after you.
- 4:04If you have any issues that on the day-to-day that it's in your
- 4:07class and you're spending pretty much every day with you.
- 4:10I thought this was super beneficial online.
- 4:11A buddy called Tom who I used to travel in with and if I had any
- 4:15issues with stuff like that, Tom would help me, you know, we'd
- 4:17put our heads together and sort it out.
- 4:18This was amazing and helped me feel less alone.
- 4:20Also, it was really good because I did build a friendship with
- 4:23Tom. Not all the time that this is
- 4:24going to happen that you have a friendship with a person, but
- 4:26that person is your go to contact within the class that's
- 4:30on your day-to-day because you could be on lunch and have an
- 4:32issue and you'd want to talk to somebody and it's good to have a
- 4:34buddy. OK, so #4 is a personal learners
- 4:36plan. Now?
- 4:37This is something that needs to be implemented from the top of
- 4:41the hierarchy in the school. When you attend the school, you
- 4:44sit down and speak to them and say, hey, I have issues in these
- 4:46areas. I have nails and spectrum and I
- 4:48need help with XY and Z. They then make a learning plan
- 4:51that is distributed to all of the people who would be taking
- 4:56you for that year or for that semester so that they know that
- 4:59you need certain help in certain areas.
- 5:01And so they're not kind of coming to you with a, oh, I
- 5:03didn't know you needed help here kind of question.
- 5:05And I've been there in both situations where they've been,
- 5:08oh, I didn't know you had issues.
- 5:09And another, the time where they say, hey, it's cool, we've read
- 5:12your personal Wellness plan and it's all good.
- 5:14So that is a must speak with the person who's indoctrinating you
- 5:19into the school when you first sign up.
- 5:21And the last thing here is a student point of contact or
- 5:23counsellor. Now, I had a student mentor when
- 5:26I attended university and this was amazing at godsend.
- 5:29I was able to speak to them about anything on a weekly
- 5:32basis. I could make appointments to see
- 5:33them at any time during the week.
- 5:34And I have regular e-mail contact with them.
- 5:36So I had any issues or discussions that needs to be
- 5:39happening on more of, of a professional or official
- 5:41official level at the school or the university, I was able to
- 5:44contribute to them and they would take that higher or they
- 5:46would be the person of the contact to go and take that
- 5:48forward. Very interesting.
- 5:50And it actually made my life at university a lot easier and more
- 5:52manageable. And I don't think I could have
- 5:54been able to do my degree in chemistry.
- 5:56I haven't already had that contact.
