Speaker 1: You're listening to an audio recast of this past week's service.
• 0:11
Speaker 1: We hope you enjoy.
• 0:12
  Speaker 1: God bless.
• 0:14
Speaker 2: As you turn to Acts, chapter 13 in your Bible.
• 0:17
Speaker 2: Let me explain a little bit about this video.
• 0:20
Speaker 2: We take up the Margaret Lackey State Miss offering every year.
• 0:25
Speaker 2: We're going to do that on October the 5th.
• 0:28
Speaker 2: We're going to take that offering up.
• 0:29
Speaker 2: There are offering envelopes out in the, at the, in the grand hall, at the welcome center.
• 0:34
Speaker 2: If you would like to get one of those to to give that, you can give before or after the the 5th, but that's today we're kind of focusing on for the Margaret Lackey State Mission offering.
• 0:45
Speaker 2: Let me show you a little bit about what that supports.
• 0:48
Speaker 2: There's also out at the Grand Hall and the Welcome Center a little brochure like this the Margaret Lackey State Mission offering.
• 0:54
Speaker 2: It supports things such as disaster relief in our state.
• 0:58
Speaker 2: If a hurricane or tornado hits our state, it supports disaster relief, but not just disaster relief in our state.
• 1:05
Speaker 2: It supports our state disaster relief who goes all over the world to help people who have experienced disaster.
• 1:12
Speaker 2: It supports church planning and church revitalization efforts.
• 1:16
Speaker 2: It also supports this is a neat thing that that I saw that it supports it supports port ministries in our state.
• 1:23
Speaker 2: We have two major ports down in the gulf coast that receive ships bringing cargo from all over the world and those guys who work on the ships.
• 1:33
Speaker 2: There are places that mississippi baptist has down on the coast that they can come and be ministered to, to get food, to take showers, and it is a phenomenal ministry that we have going down on our ports.
• 1:46
Speaker 2: This offering helps support our collegiate ministries, our BSUs across the state.
• 1:51
Speaker 2: It helps support camp ministries in the state of Mississippi, and so much more.
• 1:57
Speaker 2: The reason we do this and are emphasizing this is there are some stats that Dr Parker just quoted that are significant to me.
• 2:07
Speaker 2: One I pointed out to you not too long ago.
• 2:09
Speaker 2: That is, only 25% of Mississippians say they participate in a religious community, and that's not just a Christian community.
• 2:21
Speaker 2: Only 25% of Mississippians say they support or they participate in any kind of religious community.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: So that means less than that participate in an evangelistic Christian community.
• 2:37
Speaker 2: That is astounding to me.
• 2:40
Speaker 2: It's not quite as astounding when you realize this, though.
• 2:45
Speaker 2: Only 33% of Mississippians 33, one in three people say that Jesus is the only way to salvation.
• 2:56
  Speaker 2: Only 33%.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: And listen, hear me.
• 3:00
Speaker 2: Hear me say this I don't want to be blunt, but I'm going to be.
• 3:02
Speaker 2: If you tell me that you're a Christian but you believe there are other ways to get to God.
• 3:09
Speaker 2: You are not a believer.
• 3:11
Speaker 2: There is only one way to Jesus and only one in three people make that truth statement in the state of Mississippi.
• 3:22
Speaker 2: Listen, there is a lot of work that needs to be done in our state, a lot of evangelistic work, and so this offering that we are taking up it goes to that.
• 3:32
Speaker 2: But listen, I want to pledge to you and I want to challenge you community to understand that it can't be just us giving our money that is important and we need to do that, but it has to be us sharing with our neighbors.
• 3:47
Speaker 2: I told you a few weeks ago when I brought up that 25 percent.
• 3:51
Speaker 2: Step outside of your house this afternoon and look, and if you live in a neighborhood, there's probably a house across the street, a house to your right, a house to your left.
• 4:01
Speaker 2: One in four people participate in a religious community.
• 4:05
Speaker 2: That means, if we're going to count you as the house that participates in a religious community, there is a really good possibility that one of the at least one of those three houses has no participation in a religious community, which probably means they have no affiliation with our Savior Jesus.
• 4:22
Speaker 2: They need to know Jesus, and the task is up to us to share that as we come to Acts chapter 13,.
• 4:33
Speaker 2: Let's remember where we are in Acts chapter 13 and see how this kind of just it bleeds over into it.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: And in Acts chapter 13,.
• 4:37
Speaker 2: Let's go back, though, and remember Acts chapter 1, verse 8.
• 4:40
Speaker 2: In Acts chapter 1, verse 8, jesus told his disciples but you shall be my witnesses After the Holy Spirit has come upon you.
• 4:50
Speaker 2: You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, judea and Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the earth, and we've seen that in the book of Acts.
• 4:58
Speaker 2: We've seen that happen in Jerusalem.
• 5:00
Speaker 2: We've seen Peter and John share the present, the gospel, to people, and thousands come to salvation.
• 5:07
Speaker 2: We've even seen a guy named Peter not Peter, a guy named Stephen who shared the gospel in Jerusalem and was stoned to death for it.
• 5:18
Speaker 2: After that, we saw Christians disband and move out through the neighboring areas.
• 5:24
Speaker 2: We saw Philip go down to Samaria and share the gospel and the Holy Spirit fall upon the Samaritans, and so we've seen Acts 1-8 playing out in Jerusalem, judea and Samaria, and in the last couple of chapters, we've seen God, through his providence, working to prepare the way for the gospel to go out to the uttermost parts of the earth and today, in this passage we're going to, we're going to see that journey begin.
• 5:52
Speaker 2: In the passage today, what we're going to see is the holy spirit called paul and barnabas, to be sent out by the church and they proclaimed the word of god.
• 6:04
Speaker 2: And hopefully, as we see them proclaiming the word of God in their first century setting, we will also recognize that the Holy Spirit has led us today, wherever we are Jerusalem, judea and Samaria, the uttermost parts of the earth.
• 6:22
Speaker 2: I pray that you will see, the Holy Spirit has led us to this place so that we will proclaim the word of God.
• 6:29
Speaker 2: See, I am convinced that you don't live here by coincidence.
• 6:35
Speaker 2: I am convinced that you don't just live here in South Haven, and you are not just at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church just because the job brought you here or just because your family is from here.
• 6:49
Speaker 2: I am convinced that you are here by the will of God and he has called us to be witnesses where we are, and we should be proclaiming the word of God.
• 6:59
Speaker 2: So the challenge to us today, then, church, is to proclaim Jesus, to tell everybody we come in contact with about Jesus and as we explore today how the first century church proclaimed the gospel and how Paul and Barnabas proclaimed the word of God in their first century setting.
• 7:24
Speaker 2: Hopefully we can see how we can do that today, in the 21st century.
• 7:28
Speaker 2: So the question we want to answer today is how do we see the Holy Spirit working in the life of Paul and Barnabas as they share the gospel, so maybe we can recognize how he is working in our lives, so we can share the gospel as well.
• 7:45
Speaker 2: So Acts, chapter 13.
• 7:47
Speaker 2: Start in verse 1.
• 7:48
Speaker 2: And we're going to read down through verse 12.
• 7:51
Speaker 2: If you're able this morning, I invite you to stand with us In honor of the reading of God's word.
• 7:56
Speaker 2: It says this Now there were in the church at Antioch Prophets and teachers Barnabas, simeon, who was called Niger, lucius of Cyrene, manan, a lifelong friend of Herod, the Tetrarch, and Saul.
• 8:14
Speaker 2: While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said Set apart for me, barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them.
• 8:21
Speaker 2: Then, after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
• 8:25
Speaker 2: So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they were down in Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus.
• 8:32
Speaker 2: When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they had John to assist them.
• 8:39
Speaker 2: When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet, named Bar-Jesus.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: He was with the procouncil Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.
• 8:55
Speaker 2: But Elimaeus the magician for that was the meaning of his name opposed them, seeking to turn the procouncil away from the faith.
• 9:03
Speaker 2: But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said you, son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord?
• 9:19
Speaker 2: And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.
• 9:26
Speaker 2: Immediately, mist and darkness fell upon him and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand.
• 9:33
Speaker 2: Then the procouncil believed when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
• 9:46
Speaker 2: Let's pray together, god, we thank you.
• 9:50
Speaker 2: We thank you for this opportunity and this challenge that we have today to not just to proclaim the word of the Lord, but to hear the word of the Lord and be astonished.
• 10:03
Speaker 2: Be astonished by the word of the Lord and be astonished, be astonished by the teaching of the Lord.
• 10:07
Speaker 2: Overwhelm us this morning with your word, jesus.
• 10:12
Speaker 2: It's in your name we pray, amen.
• 10:14
Speaker 2: So again, the question we are seeking to answer is how do we see the Holy Spirit working in this first century context?
• 10:26
Speaker 2: Well, the first thing we see is that the Holy Spirit, he called people.
• 10:31
Speaker 2: We see him calling people.
• 10:35
Speaker 2: We don't just see him calling Paul and Barnabas we're going to get to that in a minute but we see him calling and we see that happening within the context of the local church.
• 10:44
Speaker 2: We see that happening.
• 10:45
Speaker 2: Look context of the local church.
• 10:46
Speaker 2: We see that happening.
• 10:46
Speaker 2: Look at verses 2 and 3.
• 10:47
Speaker 2: Again, he says this in verse 2 and 3, while they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said set apart for me, barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.
• 10:58
Speaker 2: Then, after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
• 11:05
Speaker 2: The Holy Spirit is calling, but he is working inside of the life of the church to do this.
• 11:10
Speaker 2: There's three things I think we need to see here on how he's working in the life of the church.
• 11:15
Speaker 2: First, we need to see those three things are what they were doing.
• 11:19
Speaker 2: First, see this they were worshiping, they were worshiping, they were worshiping.
• 11:27
Speaker 2: Listen, and we need to understand something about worship this morning, because I think we have a misconception of exactly what worship is, and not just at de soto hills, but in the church today.
• 11:36
Speaker 2: We we consider worship to be what we just did coming and singing.
• 11:42
Speaker 2: And it's a good worship service when we get goosebumps and we feel good inside and we get these warm fuzzies and that's a good worship service because man, god has moved in our lives and we've sung great songs and all those things and it's been good worship.
• 11:58
Speaker 2: Listen, I'm not saying that that's not part of worship.
• 12:01
Speaker 2: Singing and coming, doing what we do on Sunday morning, that is part of worship.
• 12:05
Speaker 2: But let me tell you what worship is.
• 12:07
Speaker 2: Worship is when we live our lives in adoration to the one who gave us this life.
• 12:13
Speaker 2: Worship can be done in everything that we do.
• 12:17
Speaker 2: Hear me, when you go to work tomorrow, it should be an act of worship.
• 12:22
Speaker 2: Students, when you go to school tomorrow, it should be an act of worship.
• 12:24
Speaker 2: Students, when you go to school, tomorrow, it should be an act of worship.
• 12:26
Speaker 2: When you are living with your life, when you are with your family, it should be an act of worship.
• 12:33
Speaker 2: When you are with your friends, it should be an act of worship.
• 12:36
Speaker 2: When you are driving down the road and somebody cuts you off, it should be an act of worship.
• 12:41
Speaker 2: Your response Somebody cuts you off it should be an act of worship, your response.
• 12:50
Speaker 2: Everything that we do Should be done in adoration To the Father, and that is worship.
• 13:00
Speaker 2: We find this church doing is worshiping.
• 13:04
Speaker 2: Now, we can't take away the corporate aspect of this worship, because tomorrow, when you're driving down the road worshiping, that is an individual type of worship.
• 13:16
Speaker 2: But they are worshiping together as the family of God, and we can't miss that aspect either.
• 13:25
Speaker 2: It is important that we gather together and, as the body and the bride of Christ, we worship.
• 13:33
  Speaker 2: They were worshiping.
• 13:35
Speaker 2: The next thing we see them doing and it's mentioned twice Twice is they were fasting.
• 13:43
Speaker 2: Now, listen, that's not something we do much today.
• 13:46
Speaker 2: Now, I know that there are people here that have done it because we've talked about it before, but by and large, fasting is not something we do.
• 13:54
Speaker 2: But let me post something to you for just a moment this morning.
• 13:59
Speaker 2: When we think fasting, we think give up food right.
• 14:04
Speaker 2: And here's why we think that, rightfully, so that we think that we think that because what fasting is and its most basic definition is, fasting is giving up something on which we depend so that we can seek God, focus on Him and say God, we are more dependent upon you than this necessity of life.
• 14:27
Speaker 2: So, obviously, in the first century, a huge necessity of life is where they're going to eat their next meal.
• 14:34
Speaker 2: It is a big deal.
• 14:36
Speaker 2: So when they say you know what, no, today I'm not going to eat, but I'm going to take that time and I'm going to spend that time that I would spend eating in prayer and seeking God.
• 14:49
Speaker 2: It's not just about giving stuff up either.
• 14:51
Speaker 2: It's about focusing on God while you are giving stuff up and seeking Him.
• 15:00
Speaker 2: Now listen, while I know that food is still very important to life, and I know that food is still very important to life, and I understand that, and today, if we fast, we can fast from food, just like they did in the first century.
• 15:12
Speaker 2: But can I throw a couple other things out to you, things that we could fast from?
• 15:18
Speaker 2: How about our phones?
• 15:23
Speaker 2: How about our phones?
• 15:27
Speaker 2: How about social media?
• 15:28
Speaker 2: How much time do we spend doing this, focusing on this and not focusing on God?
• 15:41
Speaker 2: What if, for a little while, church we gave it up and said God, I need you more than I need to know what so and so is doing.
• 15:56
Speaker 2: God, I need you more than I need my news feed.
• 16:02
Speaker 2: God, I need you more than I need to know what the world says about whatever is happening.
• 16:11
Speaker 2: God, I need you and I'm going to focus on you and hear me.
• 16:18
Speaker 2: I know what I'm saying, find me.
• 16:25
Speaker 2: I don't know how much I'm preaching to myself.
• 16:29
Speaker 2: I know you do this, because guess what?
• 16:32
  Speaker 2: I do this.
• 16:34
Speaker 2: But what if, for a little while, the Holy Spirit worked in us in such a way that we worship together and we fasted together and we sought God?
• 16:51
Speaker 2: Third thing we see them doing is pray.
• 16:55
Speaker 2: They're praying and we talked about this a few weeks ago and we talked about prayer.
• 17:00
Speaker 2: But listen, prayer for the first century church is not a byproduct of their life.
• 17:04
Speaker 2: It's not something that they give God when they have time.
• 17:10
Speaker 2: Prayer was a dedication of their life.
• 17:15
Speaker 2: It was not something that they did when time came, when they had time.
• 17:25
Speaker 2: It was something that they made time for.
• 17:31
Speaker 2: Listen, and I know we have prayer warriors in our church today.
• 17:36
Speaker 2: I know because I talked to you.
• 17:37
Speaker 2: I know that we have people that not only pray daily but pray hourly.
• 17:39
Speaker 2: But here's my proposition to you, church what if we as a church, we as a church, dedicated ourselves to seeking God's face and prayer?
• 17:54
Speaker 2: What could God do through us?
• 17:57
Speaker 2: What would he do through us?
• 18:00
Speaker 2: Maybe he would speak to us, maybe he would speak to us.
• 18:08
Speaker 2: This first century church, the holy spirit was working in their life.
• 18:15
Speaker 2: He was working in their church as they worshiped, fasted and prayed.
• 18:18
Speaker 2: But not only that.
• 18:19
Speaker 2: We see the holy spirit working through their church.
• 18:21
Speaker 2: He's working through their church.
• 18:23
Speaker 2: See, he's working through their church.
• 18:25
  Speaker 2: See, he identifies.
• 18:28
Speaker 2: In verse 1, he identifies leaders within this church, and we know Paul and Saul and Barnabas.
• 18:35
Speaker 2: We know who they are.
• 18:36
Speaker 2: We know that they've been teaching in the church.
• 18:39
Speaker 2: We don't know the other guys.
• 18:41
Speaker 2: It says that it calls them prophets and teachers.
• 18:43
Speaker 2: So we assume that these prophet teachers, they were leaders in the church and they were leading the church.
• 18:50
Speaker 2: And why, as they were leading the church, the holy spirit spoke to the church.
• 18:56
Speaker 2: He says it says in verse 2.
• 18:58
Speaker 2: While they were worshiping, the holy spirit said to the church now we don't know John MacArthur says this how the Holy Spirit communicated to the church is not revealed here.
• 19:09
Speaker 2: We don't know how he spoke to them, but presumably he spoke through one of the prophets that God used one of them to speak through them.
• 19:20
Speaker 2: But while we may not know how God communicated to them, we know this when he did.
• 19:27
  Speaker 2: They obeyed.
• 19:29
Speaker 2: They did what God said for them to do.
• 19:33
Speaker 2: Macarthur again says this having prayed for Saul and Barnabas and having publicly identified with them, the church at Antioch sent them away.
• 19:42
Speaker 2: But it's clear from verse 1 that the Spirit, not the church, sent out the two missionaries.
• 19:49
Speaker 2: Since he had already sent them, all the church could do was cut the cord and let them go.
• 19:55
Speaker 2: The truth is repeated in verse 4, where Luke relates that the missionaries were sent out by the Holy Spirit.
• 20:02
Speaker 2: What does verse 4 say again?
• 20:05
Speaker 2: So being sent out not by the Holy Spirit.
• 20:07
Speaker 2: What does verse 4 say again?
• 20:08
Speaker 2: So being sent out not by the church, so being sent out by the Holy Spirit, see church.
• 20:17
Speaker 2: The Spirit called Saul and Barnabas, not the church.
• 20:21
Speaker 2: The church identified that Saul and Barnabas had been called and set them aside and set them apart for ministry.
• 20:31
  Speaker 2: They obeyed.
• 20:36
Speaker 2: But we have to deal with the question how does God speak to us?
• 20:41
Speaker 2: We got to go there.
• 20:44
Speaker 2: How does God speak to us?
• 20:45
Speaker 2: Because you know the office of prophet, this spiritual gift of prophet.
• 20:50
Speaker 2: You know, once we've gotten the divine, the whole word of God, the entire word of God to us.
• 20:56
Speaker 2: I believe that gift of prophecy we don't need it, it's no longer needed because we have the full, inspired word of God to us.
• 21:01
Speaker 2: I believe that gift of prophecy we don't need it, it's no longer needed because we have the full, inspired Word of God.
• 21:05
Speaker 2: So the question is this If God is going to speak to us, how does he speak to us Right here?
• 21:11
Speaker 2: He has spoken to us.
• 21:16
Speaker 2: Listen and, as evangelistic Christians, here's one thing we believe.
• 21:20
Speaker 2: If you don't, we need to evaluate it.
• 21:23
Speaker 2: We believe in the sufficiency of Scripture.
• 21:26
Speaker 2: Here's what that means Scripture, within these words, within these pages, is everything that I need to know for salvation.
• 21:36
Speaker 2: It's everything that I need to know to trust God.
• 21:40
Speaker 2: It's everything that I need to know to obey God.
• 21:44
Speaker 2: Everything that I need to know for life and for salvation is found right here.
• 21:51
Speaker 2: You want to hear God speak.
• 21:52
Speaker 2: We should be here and we should be gathered together as a church, as a congregation, because they are doing that here.
• 22:01
Speaker 2: He's doing this through the church.
• 22:03
Speaker 2: They are gathered together in a church that is dedicated to the apostles' teaching, to the fellowship, to the table and to the prayers.
• 22:12
Speaker 2: You want to hear God speak.
• 22:17
Speaker 2: We should be in God's word and we should be in God's word together.
• 22:27
  Speaker 2: He has spoken.
• 22:30
Speaker 2: We just need to listen.
• 22:33
Speaker 2: So the Holy Spirit is moving.
• 22:39
Speaker 2: How is he working?
• 22:41
Speaker 2: He is calling Saul and Barnabas.
• 22:43
Speaker 2: He's speaking through the spirit and the church is obeying.
• 22:49
Speaker 2: But this morning I know what time it is.
• 22:53
Speaker 2: But there's one more thing I want us to see, and this is this is a two-part sermon.
• 22:58
  Speaker 2: Y'all don't know this.
• 22:59
Speaker 2: I didn't put this in the title, but I knew it wasn't.
• 23:02
Speaker 2: We weren't going to have too long, so, hey, I just went ahead and divided it.
• 23:06
Speaker 2: But finally, today I need us.
• 23:10
Speaker 2: I want you to see how the spirit was working when saul and barnabas proclaimed.
• 23:15
  Speaker 2: They proclaimed.
• 23:17
Speaker 2: So what did they proclaim?
• 23:21
Speaker 2: Three times in these, in this passage, there's a phrase that's used, or something similar the word of god.
• 23:29
Speaker 2: In verse five it says that when they arrived at salamis.
• 23:33
Speaker 2: They proclaimed the word of god in the synagogues of the jews.
• 23:37
Speaker 2: Then, in verse seven, says there was a pro council, serg Paulus, a man of intelligence.
• 23:42
Speaker 2: He summoned Barnabas and Saul and he sought to hear the Word of God.
• 23:48
Speaker 2: And then, down in verse 12, here's what happens.
• 23:52
Speaker 2: He is astonished, and we'll get to this next week.
• 23:54
  Speaker 2: There's a miracle that happens.
• 23:56
Speaker 2: But what amazes me is Sergius Paulus.
• 24:01
Speaker 2: He was not astonished by the miracle.
• 24:02
  Speaker 2: You know what?
• 24:03
Speaker 2: He was astonished by what it tells us in verse 12.
• 24:05
Speaker 2: He was astonished by the teaching of the Lord.
• 24:06
Speaker 2: That is the same thing as the word of God.
• 24:09
Speaker 2: So what is the word of God?
• 24:14
Speaker 2: It is undeniably that Saul and Barnabas are proclaiming the gospel message.
• 24:21
  Speaker 2: Here's what they're telling people.
• 24:24
Speaker 2: They're telling people that the God of the universe is a God of justice.
• 24:29
Speaker 2: He is a God of justice, he is a just God and we, as people, are a fallen people.
• 24:36
Speaker 2: We have sin in our lives, and you may say, grant, I'm pretty good, though I don't care, you're a son or daughter, you're a son of Adam or daughter of Eve.
• 24:45
Speaker 2: You have sin in your life and a just God is going to deal with that sin, and that dealing with the sin is, we are going to be condemned to death, not just death in this life, but an eternal death.
• 25:00
Speaker 2: Not because God is condemning us, but because what John tells us, we have condemned ourselves if we do not believe.
• 25:06
Speaker 2: He is a just God and he is going to deal with sin.
• 25:10
Speaker 2: But he is also a loving God and that loving God sent his son.
• 25:17
Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, the son of of God, came and he walked upon this earth, the same as you and me.
• 25:22
Speaker 2: He put his sandals on one foot at a time and he walked upon this earth.
• 25:28
Speaker 2: But here's the deal he kept the law perfectly, not failing one single time.
• 25:34
Speaker 2: He was sinless and he walked upon this earth a sinless man, and he was condemned to death on the cross.
• 25:41
Speaker 2: He was condemned to die in my place and in your place, and on the cross he took the wrath of God that I deserve.
• 25:49
Speaker 2: He took the wrath of God that you deserve.
• 25:52
Speaker 2: He became our atoning sacrifice.
• 25:55
Speaker 2: He was our substitute.
• 25:58
Speaker 2: He was our substitute and on the cross the wrath of God was poured out upon Jesus, because God loves us.
• 26:10
Speaker 2: And Jesus was buried and three days later he arose.
• 26:16
Speaker 2: And what the resurrection signifies for us?
• 26:18
  Speaker 2: That?
• 26:19
Speaker 2: The wrath of God the just punishment that Jesus took for us.
• 26:24
Speaker 2: God was satisfied with that punishment.
• 26:26
Speaker 2: It was enough to cover our sins.
• 26:30
Speaker 2: And so now, when we believe in Jesus Christ, when we believe that he suffered in my place, when I repent of my sin and turn towards God in faith, when I believe in Jesus, god places Christ's righteousness upon me and upon you so we can have life.
• 26:52
Speaker 2: That is the word of God that they proclaimed, and it is the same word of God that they proclaimed and it is the same word of God that we need to hear today.
• 27:05
Speaker 2: So what does this mean for us?
• 27:10
Speaker 2: It means we got to start with where we ended.
• 27:15
Speaker 2: If you have never trusted in Christ as your Savior, you are condemned to die.
• 27:26
Speaker 2: But God loved you so much that he sent his son to die in your place.
• 27:33
Speaker 2: I pray that this morning you are astonished by the word of God and you trust in him.
• 27:40
Speaker 2: And if you have.
• 27:44
Speaker 2: The challenge for us church is this may we as individuals, and may we as the church, focus on worshiping God in everything that we do and giving up part of the things that we think we have to have so we can focus on God, and may we dedicate ourselves to being people of prayer.
• 28:15
Speaker 2: I'm about to sing a hymn of invitation.
• 28:19
Speaker 2: I'm going to pray for us.
• 28:19
Speaker 2: They're going to come for us.
• 28:20
Speaker 2: We're going to sing a hymn of invitation.
• 28:21
Speaker 2: I'm going to pray for us.
• 28:21
Speaker 2: They're going to come for us.
• 28:21
Speaker 2: We're going to sing a hymn of invitation.
• 28:23
Speaker 2: If you've never trusted in Christ, we're inviting you to come.
• 28:27
Speaker 2: We'll pray with you.
• 28:29
Speaker 2: There will be people who will take you out and share with you how you can know Jesus, or if you have.
• 28:34
Speaker 2: But this morning, this morning, the challenge is real for you.
• 28:38
Speaker 2: I know you can sit in your chair and accept this challenge as you are, but I'm going to ask you to do something with your family this morning.
• 28:46
Speaker 2: I'm going to ask you to step out so we can help hold you accountable to being people of worship, to being people of prayer and fasting, so that we can hear the Holy Spirit as he speaks to us through the word of God.
• 29:04
Speaker 2: I'm going to ask you to dedicate yourselves to scripture so we can hear God's word.
• 29:12
Speaker 2: I'm going to pray for us as we stand and sing.
• 29:14
Speaker 2: You're invited to come if there's a decision that you need to make.
• 29:19
Speaker 2: God, we love you.
• 29:20
Speaker 2: Thank you for today and thank you for how you love us, god.
• 29:26
Speaker 2: You are good to us and we praise you.
• 29:28
Speaker 2: God, we ask you this morning to work in our lives, to work in our hearts, god, astonish us with the word of God, change our lives for all eternity.
• 29:44
Speaker 2: God, help us to dedicate ourselves through worship, through prayer and through fasting, to see you moving within our church.
• 29:57
Speaker 2: God, we love you, jesus.
• 30:01
Speaker 2: It's in your name we pray.
• 30:02
  Speaker 2: Amen.
• 30:04
