- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the Good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset, coach, creative
- 0:08strategist, and also happened to be a farmer.
- 0:11This is my Chicken coop and I come out here every day.
- 0:14To record a podcast to. Teach distinctions,
- 0:17possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring some
- 0:20joy. Into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning.
- 0:30It is cold and that has and it's going to get colder over the
- 0:33next couple days. And I mean it's going to go into
- 0:37a real like we're going to be 19°.
- 0:40I think it's tomorrow night or into Monday night maybe.
- 0:43And it has really made me think about again about how nature is
- 0:49so tied to us. So this morning I'm getting
- 0:52ready to go out and swap out the girls coop.
- 0:55I do. I can get a couple of maybe an
- 0:58extra week, week and a half. I swap out every couple of
- 1:01weeks. I go out and I take out all the
- 1:03straw that's in their coop and I move that out into the front of
- 1:07the coop and around the coop and it breaks down and it actually
- 1:10makes amazing dirt to plant in. So as that straw breaks down and
- 1:15it gets into the ground and the girls are constantly digging in
- 1:17it, it kind of turns into this most fertile, insane, beautiful
- 1:23dirt that you've ever seen. And so I love using it.
- 1:26And I keep putting layer upon layer upon layer.
- 1:28And every couple weeks I take all the stir out of their coop.
- 1:30I wipe it all down inside. I make sure I see if there's
- 1:33anything. So if there's anything
- 1:35happening, I catch it right at the beginning because chickens
- 1:38are, you know, very vulnerable and especially to all the
- 1:42environmental stuff that they can get into and their
- 1:44respiratory systems are very delicate.
- 1:47So I like to make sure everything it's clean.
- 1:49But now why am I bringing this up?
- 1:50Because today it's kind of it's, it's not cold, but it's chilly.
- 1:55And I have, I'm today is a day I'm going to go out and I'm
- 1:58going to swap out the coop this morning.
- 2:00And I recognize I was like, oh, I got to hurry up and do this
- 2:04before it gets really, really cold.
- 2:05And I, I come back to the same thing over and over again.
- 2:10We as human beings sometimes don't recognize how tied to
- 2:15nature we are. We like to think, oh, I'm not a
- 2:18nature girl. I've had people tell me this
- 2:20many, many times. However, if you pay attention to
- 2:23the weather, you're tied to nature.
- 2:26If you sit there and you think about, OK, well, when is it
- 2:28going to rain? How am I going to do this?
- 2:30You're tied to nature. We have so many things that we
- 2:33revolve around, like many parts of this country right now.
- 2:37And I know I have listeners from all over the place, but in the
- 2:40United States, many parts right now are brutally cold.
- 2:43People don't even want to leave their house.
- 2:44I have clients in Alaska and I, I know they're used to going out
- 2:48in this stuff, but it's cold. Or in, in Michigan, Oh my gosh,
- 2:52it's really, really cold and they don't want to leave.
- 2:55So here we are getting into this in the South and it's like, oh,
- 2:59now you know it's going to be nobody wanting to go out and
- 3:01we're really ill equipped for it.
- 3:03The other day I couldn't let my son drive because he has a
- 3:07learner's permit to work in the morning because we had frozen
- 3:10fog. My friends, I've never had that.
- 3:13I grew up up north and I've never even heard of frozen fog.
- 3:17Didn't even know it was a thing that could happen.
- 3:18But Yep, fog can freeze and boom, We had accident after
- 3:24accident. It turned out that there was
- 3:26about a six hour traffic jam from one side of our county,
- 3:31city, whatever you want to call it to the other.
- 3:33And that is a massive area. It was huge.
- 3:36And everywhere we went, I was with my daughter.
- 3:38I could not believe the traffic we were in.
- 3:41And of course you're using Waze and you're trying to get around
- 3:44it. But all of that came from
- 3:45nature. So when nature has its its
- 3:48moments, and it always does, it's going to cause us to change
- 3:53our approach as humans, what we wear, what we eat.
- 3:56Have you ever noticed the other day it was cold?
- 3:59I said I'd love to have some like really cozy food and ended
- 4:04up with shepherds pie because Oh my God, that's cozy food.
- 4:07But do you realize how tied to nature we are?
- 4:12And here's what's funny. This helicopter that's flying
- 4:14over right now is coming over and checking to see if the power
- 4:19lines that run down the center of this, the island that I live
- 4:23on, are OK. And they do this regularly,
- 4:25especially when the weather is happening.
- 4:28So I'm telling you, we are tied to nature more than we think.
- 4:32And there's a reason that I'm bringing this up because embrace
- 4:35that. Get out into it.
- 4:37Because I promise you, you feel so much better when you
- 4:40acknowledge it. Oh no, I guess I am tied to
- 4:42nature in a way. I guess there are things about
- 4:45this that I should pay attention to.
- 4:46And when you do, you end up feeling so much lighter.
- 4:50You end up feeling so good. I can tell you the moment I go
- 4:53out for a walk in nature, the moment I start to just feel that
- 4:57like dirt beneath my feet, I go, OK, the decompression starts.
- 5:03So you are tied to nature. Now go figure out your link
- 5:06because it's not going to be the same as mine, but figure it out
- 5:09and allow yourself to have some breathing space.
- 5:12I'm going to tell you this morning's going to be
- 5:14interesting because the, the cool air is going to make it
- 5:17feel so good out doing a job that takes a while.
- 5:19And I, I, I love giving them a clean space and I'm going to
- 5:24decorate it for Christmas. So anyway, I hope you guys have
- 5:27a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:28Bye.
