- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, hello, and welcome to another edition of the nine or noise podcast parts of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor at nine or noise.com, and here with me nursing that turf toe from last week fellow contributor, ox house divadula, ox house, how you feeling, man?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Robert, I was super excited about this NFL season.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, wow, things are going to be different.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be new.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be fun.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then the world conspire to remind all of us that no, ever.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: Time is a circle, nothing changes.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm still excited, you know?
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think...
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to get into and the game will be more fun, probably because of all the injuries that wanted to be more fun.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, I would like it to be boring.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, wow.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, make lemons, make lemonade out of lemons and all.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: There's something like that.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Before we get started, I want to just remind you, we'll mention this again later in the podcast, but we do have our friends from underdog fantasies.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: We want to encourage you to download the underdog fantasy app.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: And you can use promo code, promo code noise to score $50 and bonus funds.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: When you play your first $5, that's promo code noise.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll talk more about them a little bit later in the podcast.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: But wanted to get that right off the bat.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: We do have some things to talk about.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's been a lot of transactions and such for the 49ers.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: They are, of course, traveling.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think actually are already in New Orleans.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: As they'll take on the Saints tomorrow.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: afternoon, um, Saints, um, I think, um, among the teams that are fighting for that number one overall pick in the draft next year.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of where they are, but, uh, we'll see.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: how that works out.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're a little feisty last week.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think against the Cardinals, but hopefully the 49ers will be able to take care of them.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: So a couple of transactions that are really important in the first.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about this a little bit in the last episode that Kyle Jainahan had intimated that Kendrick Boren was on his way back.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the 49ers made that official this week.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: He is back with the team.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: as we've talked about a lot this off season that wider silver room is going to be a ever-changing group.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: So it's after next week's game to harvest Robinson, can come back.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: and then who knows with other players.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be something to watch.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like the group that started last week, we'll certainly not be the same as the group that started that will start in week eight.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be a lot different there.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I, you know, I for one, I think we talked about this last time.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think born brings a sort of,
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: like level of expectation.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's not super.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's not, you know, a game breaker or a super star or anything, but he's going to just kind of bring a veteran presence that I think will will help the quarterback, whoever that happens to be from week to week at this particular point, to feel comfortable back there.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that will work out pretty well.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, that he offers like baseline competency.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: last week, Brockford, he did not trust a receiver and not name Ricky Purcell and Joann Dennings.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: So having someone like who, even if they're not like explosive or whatever.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, I don't know, like I haven't been paying super close attention to a Kendrick born on the Patriots.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: So probably you know, maybe he has sort of taking that next step or whatever.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: but like if you someone that like to quarterback's would actually throw the ball to the starting winning from half in the last.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well and then you know the the sort of I'm going to use the word good news here.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: It isn't what I mean, but obviously the fact that and we've buried the lead a little bit.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously Brock Perty out for this game.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: Um, against the Saints, which means Mac Jones will be the starting quarterback for the 49ers.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: And if there is a slither of light there, it's that Mac Jones and Kendrick Bourne, know each other from their time in New England.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: So that might help kind of ease.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that transition a little bit.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously Mac Jones has had the whole summer and stuff to get.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: uh... on the same page with the repair saw and with john Jennings but if you add a third guy in there that kind of that he can be like oh i know that guy can further away that's probably can help that a little bit more than than and make the transition a little smoother i think out definitely i mean like
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not not the ideal sort of like happy coincidence here, but like no take it.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're looking for we're looking for anything we can get at this point.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: The other news of course transaction why is that frankly, I was surprised to see it happen so quickly.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: Jake Moody out he's been waved by the 49ers.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: They have replaced him with former Panthers kicker Eddie Piniero I believe he is the third current active leader in like in third place in the active leader board in Fuel goal success rates something hovering around 89%
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: Which given the fact that Moody has been at like 50% for the last year plus is some yeah, quite an upgrade It had to be done.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about it.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: We probably talked about how it needed to be done before the season started fortunately It didn't aid take them losing a game for the decision to be made and be
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: they didn't let it linger too long.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why they went through all this, all this in the office and just to cut them in week one, but at least cooler heads and intelligent, more intelligent heads prevailed in this case, I would say in this case.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, like, I think what I saw from like, I think I read somewhere from John Lings.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: John Lynch is like, media spot, what can be are.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was just that like, and generally what I think the point had become is that like, he just wasn't confident anymore.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: And that was the point that they're like, okay, like, we can't, there's nothing to do with this, right?
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, if we can't trust him, taking him out there, then like,
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's all over.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I agree.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's a bit odd that it took him this long to figure that out.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: You would have thought they'd like figure that out already given the fact that it's not a particular like it seemed pretty obvious to all of us watching that Moody had lost his confidence.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: I guess like that's that's how it goes sometimes.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was a necessary move.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I think
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: and hopefully secures where like stableized special teams that would be lovely um so best luck to turn you guy number 18 Eddie out there.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad he just isn't take four that would have been bad.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: like he's he word for with the panthers I believe some really just glad he didn't be like well force available no don't you touch that that number should be retired for a year I think just to you know get all the all that out of it um other news all tight-end related of course George kiddle goes the injured reserve list which means he'll miss at least the next four
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: games.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's that's not great.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be the Saints Cardinals, Jacksonville, and the Rams, I think, in that order.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's off the top hand.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's correct.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: The only move that they made to correspond with it was they brought in a man named by the name of Messiah Swinson to join the practice squad.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've never heard of this guy.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: Had to do a little research, he seems to be very tall.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: That is the best that I have for you.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think he had fewer than 30 catches during his college career, which does not really inspire a whole lot of like, yeah, this guy is going to be good.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's just feeling spot, the likely thing is that he's there because they anticipate.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: elevating Braiden Willis for the first couple of weeks.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Then we'll see what happens because he can only be elevated three times and with the kiddo missing for at least four games.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be very interesting to see how they choose to handle that Braiden Will situation, but he's certainly going to be like elevated to the active roster for from the practice squad for at least three games I would say.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: That definitely seems like it'll be the play.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then most likely, I bet you their hope is that the receiver situation starts clearing up and roster spots start opening up and they can like sort of figure out what to do from there and get like bringing well as onto the 53 for a couple of times.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: That would be my guess, but who knows exactly what's going to happen.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wonder if they feel okay about the him about Kittles hamstring situation and are not anticipating it extending much past the IR steak, because otherwise I would have thought they would have been a little bit more aggressive in bringing in another past catching tight end, although maybe they just think Jake Tong, this is the guy, like maybe he's the dude and we just don't know.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: Is that possible?
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's a post?
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: Coming up.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if he plays like he did last week, he's definitely to do so you know that I'm just saying like there's a
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's the way these things work, right?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, true.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Opportunities come and somebody grabs them and then they become the guy.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe that's the path here, I don't know.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: We shall see the opportunities will certainly be there for Jake Tonguez.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see how that goes.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: From the injury perspective, already mentioned Brock Perti, enjoyed to get all those the only players that are definitely going to miss this game on Sunday, Perti, not on the injured list, or the injured reserve, which is interesting.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder, again, if that has to do with the fact that, well, one, they only have so many IR with designation to return type of type of guys they can use anyway, so it doesn't like they're probably being aware of that and not wanting to use all those up in week two, but I also wonder because of the timeframe like that two to five weeks is very innocuous amount of time, right?
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously it's very, it's defined, but there's also a lot of opportunities, so theoretically
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: be ready to play in week three, but it could also be week six or seven.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: So it kind of just makes it really difficult to predict, but I imagine it's more of like a they just don't want to use the IR slot, especially because the extra the third quarterback rule allows them to elevate a guy from the practice squad anyway, so they don't even really need another quarterback on the on the roster anyway I hit this point.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: So that's really why I think they're not doing it is that like
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: They don't gain anything by not having Brock pretty on the 53 right now, like, maybe it less than, I don't know, pull up Braden Willis, but like that seems unnecessary and like not particularly important.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and again, if he's ready to go in two weeks, then the new would be like, oh, well, now he's ready to play, but he can't, because, because I are rules and stuff.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's probably airing on the side of caution on that regard to from the Saints perspective, three players that are out Julian Blackman, the safety has a shoulder injury.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Trevor penning the offensive tackle has a toe and he's out chase young old friend chase young As a calf injury and he will also not play on Sunday against the 49ers To least Fuwaga there we go another offensive tackle has a knee injury He is questionable.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: He was limited in practice Thursday and Friday Other players on the injury report for the Saints for the whereas of Bella's Jones junior They're running back Zach Wood the long snapper who was an elbow injury
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: That seems like that would be important for a long snapper.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's his other elbow.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: And then other sort of safety Jordan Houghton, but he seems to be good to go with an oblique injury.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Any anything stand out to you there?
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously Chase Young, the name recognition is there.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really sure how much of an impact that makes on the actual game, though.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's hard to tell in Blar's part because
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not really sure like how the Saints defense is fully operating now, like Julian Blackman is not elicit as a starter on their depth chart for ESPN, but
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think the offensive tackle you mentioned, Telly's Fwaga.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's kind of a big deal.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: They use their starting right tackle, so that's going to be, that might be something the nanners can take advantage of with their defensive line.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I really think that's probably the biggest entry here.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like you said, Chase Young is the big name.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: As an honor fans know, there's not like there are games where he plays up to sort of that name and there's games where like sometimes he doesn't but like he's I mean it's a better it's better that you don't have them than you do because It's just in case if he decided to show up this week.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so Yeah, I mean I think honestly the offensive tackle situations going to be the real big one because that gives the
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Because then you have kelvin banged junior left tackle that's a rookie that's a very inexperienced like like, like, offensive tackle situation for Nick Bosa, Michael Williams, Bricefuff.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: And given the fact that the Niners' offense is going to be sort of running on 50% to all the injuries.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of want.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: You, the defense is going to be the one to carry you this week, so it's nice that like they have a favorable matchup on the offensive line because pressures the biggest way they'll be able to take advantage of this team.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Trevor Penning, who they listed on the on the.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: on the injury report as a guard, the Saints actually have him, well, and this is the depth chart on their website that he's there starting left guard, so that would be something to watch there, like, kind of moves everybody down, sees our, sees a Louise still listed, sorry, you messin' Kelvin Bangs and then Fuago would be there, they're right tackles.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely something to watch.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: Not a group that I look at and go.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they seem to be in good shape.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, but certainly a names to keep keep in mind.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: So all right.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's go ahead and get into our reasons for optimism and reasons for our concern, which is brought to you by
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: our friends at Underdog Fantasy.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: Football is back and underdog is the best place to make picks and win money all season long.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: Playing an underdog is easy just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like touchdowns, receiving yards, interceptions, and more.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Get your picks right and you can win up to 5,000 times your cash.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: You can play with this little as one dollar.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll send it over to Okshaas to remind us a little bit about
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, everyone, you know, I've been saying it every week.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: I really like underdog as like an app.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's really intuitive and easy to use.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: You open it up and immediately see the picks page and go to all the different games and the different leagues you want to look at what stats are interesting to you.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't had the most success on underdog, but that's not to say that you can, I'm just really bad at this.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I have a lot of fun, which to me is the most important part.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: So last week, I told you guys about a depot Samuel Russian statline.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was higher on 11 and a half Russian yards, and I was right.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: I was a very impressed by myself.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm coming back at it this week, and I'm going
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: I have a group of three, I think that the Dalton is going to bounce back in a major way, again, my Patriots.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: And so I have Tyrekill higher on 65 and a half receiving yards to a tongue by low a higher on 237 and a half pass yards and Jalen Wattel higher on 49 and a half receiving yards.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: So, with Underdog, you're going to want, you can't just pick everything from one team, you're going to have to add them up, so I would like add things from other teams you like, but I really think that the dolphins are going to make a big, big stand in like,
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: these three are going to benefit the most.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: So you can download the app today and sign up for promo code noise to score $50 in bonus funds when you play your first $5.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's promo code noise.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: Millions of fans have already won billions making picks on underdog.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: Will you be next?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Underdog make picks win money.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: Must be 18 years old or 19 years old in Alabama and Nebraska, 19 years old in Colorado for some games, 21 years old in Arizona, Massachusetts, and Virginia and President of the state-run direct fantasy operates.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Terms apply, see assets to underdarkfansy.com slash web slash playing, get terms into scored DFS, underscore.htcml for details.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: Officer's not bailed in Maryland, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: If you're concerned with your play, call 100gambler, visit www.nspgambler.org in New York, call the 247-Hopeline at 1-8-7-8-Hopin-Y, or text-Hopin-Y for 6-7-369.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: Perfecto.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um, into the reasons for optimism, Oksha's I will kick it over to you to get us started there.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: I promised I wouldn't do this, but I'm gonna say it before I go into my actual reason.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: The Saints are not a good team.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: Which is like...
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: Just sort of the reality like they've entered a rebuild their cat was really messed up new head coach don't really have a great for a big situation like this is team like you said at the beginning of the episode trying to get the first overall pick.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: So like the Niners should win this game like that's just even mac Jones they just have more talent but specifically why do I think the Niners should win this game.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: I just think the Saints offense is not like explosive at all.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that should allow the 49ers defense to really command dictate the terms of this game.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: So against the Cardinals, we've won as weird obviously, but Spencer Rat left through the ball 46 times and got 214 yards total into air.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't run.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's really inefficient.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's so that's not good.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's really that's really really bad That is like really no NFL offense could should ever possibly be like that They ran the ball fairly well at the average around like four to five yards of carry But that just wasn't their sort of ammo, right?
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what we saw from the 49ers defense is that they can do a good job against the run.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: So this is really going to be a
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to challenge you on offense, a little bit by design, you know, protecting a young quarterback, a little bit by talent and I think what that allows the 49ers defense to do is really dictate terms of this game, especially we were just talked about with the injuries like depleted offensive line.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: I can make both of Bryce up and Mike Hill Williams, you turn gross mottos, all these guys on the edge and on the inside, like creating pressure, I really think they can sort of like put a strangle hold on the Saints' offense.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: And like sure, the 49ers' offense, we don't really know how it's gonna look like.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: It might be really bad, it might be fine.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like with Mac Jones, there's a lot of uncertainty, but like I genuinely don't know if the Saints
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: And if that's true, like Kyle Shanahan should be able to scheme up more than 10 points to win.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: So, which I like, that sort of like, I think it really depends on the defense playing at a really high level, but I think the same's offense is not one that's going to particularly challenge in it.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, I feel fairly confident in that like, the defense is going to take care of business tomorrow.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, so that I, that I tell you the story that I, we, we when we were New Orleans last last December into New Year's, we saw Spencer Rattler at a barbecue joint after a game.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, oh, wait, maybe you like in passing.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, he was just chilling.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, so we, we're, we live in the Carolinas and he went to, he graduated from, or he finished his career at South Carolina.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: So there was some of my in-laws were like, oh, I guess, not a particularly tall fella.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was very nice, like my father-in-law bothered him a little bit while he was there eating with his family, but he was he was very kind to take a picture, but yeah, so.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's my expense where I had other story.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: All that to say, agree with everything you're saying.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: My reason for optimism is kind of be the opposite.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, their defense wasn't horrible.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: Last, had a pretty decent game against the Cardinals last week.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: at least in terms of like they kept calomerian under wraps from a passing perspective.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: We may see a very similar thing in this case where they may key in on trying to figure out how to force Mac Jones to win the game.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: The problem was in a very bizarre term, I'm not really interested.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: You might need to help me understand this.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: The the Cardinals average five almost five and a half yards per carry and yet still felt the need to throw the ball 29 times.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so very odd.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, because it's felt like they were the way they were running the ball that they should have been able to control the ball.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, maybe they didn't run a ton of off into plays.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: They only ran the ball 27 times for 146 yards.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: it just seems like this is going to be an opportunity for the 49ers to really go all chain of hand in the game and just like run the ball 35 times and, you know, let McAfrey run the ball 15 times, let Brian Robinson run the ball 15 times, you know, let somebody else run the ball five times, I'm okay.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I just feel like they're going to be able to control the line of scrimmage really on both sides of the ball, but certainly on the offensive side and
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: and not put Mac Jones in a position where he has to like win the game with his arm.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I, you know, I feel fairly confident in his ability to be efficient when he needs to be, but I also don't think in true Kyle Shan and Fashon, I don't think he's going to put him in a situation where he's just like, all right, Mac go out there and win the game.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to need to be good when he's called upon, but
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: Ultimately, this feels like a run the ball down there throws for 40 minutes or whatever and really just control the game and win it against a team that probably can't keep up with you offensively.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: I agree with that.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: The Russian game is going to be big for the Niners and that's a place where I feel fairly confident that they have a good edge just got me they did they were not very efficient last you can see I don't but they got it done, which is like Really all that matters, but like definitely the Cardinals and Niners I think like If you sort of like have to compare their offensive lines, I'd say they're probably very similar so I think it builds well that like the Cardinals were able to run with a lot of success.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: But of course, this is the NFL and weird things happen all the time.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, what are we thinking about?
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: What's the reasons for concern, OXS?
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, so there's an easy one, which is just like Mac Jones is really bad at playing quarterback.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: Which is possible, right?
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that is, you know, you're not on your third team in what four years for because you're good.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say that.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, right?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a nods of your chance that that is actually like there's truth to that But I think my biggest concern is like pressure from From the Saints defense creating like sort of issues and what I mean by that is I think the Saints defense Does have good past rushers and camp Jordan Carl Granger sin
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think the 49ers offensive line was not super inspiring last week, so like you get a lot of consistent pressure.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have Brett pretty to bail you out.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now to Matt Jones mistakes happen, you know, your offense sort of shoots itself in the foot, and then you lose a game, whether your defense is playing well, because like your offense has like given up points.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's where I think this game could turn is that like the Saints really like T off on the 49ers offense with their past rush.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: Then you have to run the ball to mitigate that, but you know a negative play is a negative play like behind the sticks things just sort of fall apart so do like.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably the main way I could see the nine or sort of like falling apart here or like everyone gets hurt or Mac Jones is plays really poorly, but really I think like the same's or the same's pressure I think it's going to be a problem this game I just like I'm just not sure yet if it's going to be enough to like yeah sort of like do rail to 49ers, but I do think like that would be the.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now, if we were like coming back on Monday and talking about like why the 49ers lost this game, we will be talking about the fact that like there's the pressure.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very similar with you.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: I just kind of am thinking about like the Brandon Staley of it all.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: And just like he was with this team last year.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so he he was around it and saw what was going on.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: And he knows what Kyle Shanahan wants to do.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: And so if there are
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: If there are guys who are like set up to figure out how to kind of stall that I like I think my my concern is more like that they're going to like make this a sticky game and make it a game where we're like this is like so annoying like stop being a noxious I'm not like really concern that they're actually going to lose so much as I am like
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: it turns out like last week right where it's it's ugly and the saints kind of stick around a lot longer than you think they have any business doing so because like I don't think they're often it's going to do anything very similar to what Seattle did and if the 49ers kind of get stuck in the mud that's kind of and then you put in yourself as in a situation where even if you technically I'll play them
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: where it could be one of those things where a one little thing makes a big difference and having a guy like Brandon Staley as your defensive coordinator who kind of knows what's going on on the other side of the ball a little bit could be like a slight edge.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now I think the gap between the two teams is enough that that's not enough to make up.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: So like, bridge the gap, so to speak, but also that's something like that's the thing that kind of kind of kind of keeps like sticking in my brain.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like if like that's going to be enough to make it annoying possibly if the 49ers don't kind of come out and just kind of dictate the game and then take it over and be done with it.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't really think about the as you said at the
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, yeah, I mean, again, like I said, the, I'm not sure the teams are close enough that the defensive coordinator is going to make that big of a difference, but you never know.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, I do think that the sinks may have a bit of an edge there, but you're right.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like talent at the end does win out.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think because of all the injuries this game that they're saying has gotten a little tired that would have otherwise anticipated, which is not great, but sort of you got to live with it right.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like a full a full strength for it and there's team probably runs in there and just like.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: like runs rough shot on them and we don't feel bad about it at all, right?
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, I don't feel so good about that particular outcome.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: That said, I think you'll be surprised in spite of what I just said about the score predictions that I have.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, so I'm ready.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think we've really talked this one through and I don't really know that there's whole lot left to say, um, but, uh, yeah, let me, uh, are you, are you, are you prepared
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's do it.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, what do you got?
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I mean, like, they're going to win this game.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Saints are not like
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: The Saints played the Cardinals close that in my opinion probably is more to say about Arizona than New Orleans and I think like the offense is just not, it's just not explosive enough, which is like at the end of the day that like your offense has to like be right so many times in order to like make that work and that's like
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: they're, I just don't think that's possible.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think the 49ers defense is going to make it a lot of good stops.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: Not expecting a big offensive game though, but I'm going to say 17 to three.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think a little low scoring, but the defense really like pitches in a strong performance and takes care of business.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you were, you were, maybe I feel maybe maybe my number is too high, but I'm just like after last week.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: I just maybe this I'm just wishful thinking this into the into the in the stratosphere or whatever.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going 27 10.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: Could I see like one of those touchdowns being a defensive touchdown?
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Saints are ripe to give up that kind of thing So I don't know the offense is gonna score 27 points also you'll note 27 means that we're gonna get a couple of field goals So I'm feeling a little bit stronger about the field goal kicking game these days
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so I don't think the offense is going to be great.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a real outside chance like the defense it's could score that the the Saints turn it over a couple of times and give the 49ers short fields.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: So even if the offense doesn't like do outrageous things, they can still put some points on the board that kind of thing.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: But as you said, um, I just don't see a world in which the Saints score more than 10 points.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: And so look at us.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're right there in there.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: Um, all right.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: So what are we thinking?
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: for the inactive.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's we're going to try to move through this with some with some pace this time.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like last time we we fumbled around with it.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, do we want to go first?
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to do
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: Why don't you take the lead on this?
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: OK, all right.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's fairly straightforward.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: So Jordan Watkins, I think, still not quite there yet.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he'll probably be inactive again, plus the rookie receiver of it all.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Martin was a little bit of surprise last week, but it maybe that continues this week.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that tells us something about his role on this team.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: Brock Perti, obviously, going to be inactive.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's an easy one.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Robert Beal was inactive last week, so we'll go ahead and continue to that trend along with,
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Jordan Jefferson, right?
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, that's right.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: And Drew Moss and Jordan James.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I actually don't have any disagreement with it.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think this week is kind of easy in part because of like the injuries.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: So the only thing is obviously like if John Jennings is unable to play, right?
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: Or like Trent Williams is unable to play.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: And those guys will be inactive, correct.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know who they'll like keep.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: Also don't know who they'll call up other than Braden Willis.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Curtis Robinson.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know like it's not really clear to me what how the roster's going to shake out.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: that's like this kind of the fun of like thinking about the inactive is how they approach it.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just for the record, Jordan one kids did have a full practice on Friday.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not outside of the room possibility that if if John Jennings for one of a reason or for the because of the the injured shoulder isn't ready to go that maybe maybe Jordan one can get sit in there, but I would anticipate that it's another like,
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: Russell Gage gets elevated type of thing if that's the way they go.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: So there we are.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: All right, any final words on this one, actually I was just kind of a quick jump through the New Orleans Saints, but I don't really know there's a lot to say about this team, so no offense to City of New Orleans and it's fine people.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: But any final thoughts on chess?
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: Well, just that like, it's not ideal that the Niners are in the situation.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, a lot of the hope for the new season was less injuries and might be a whole health so close to being able to tackle like the schedule with your with your full team.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, I think the schedule is still what it is.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: The Niners are in a favorable spot.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: They have a division win, which is important.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: So it's incumbent upon them to still, you know, to care business and not sort of fall apart here, right?
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's what good teams do.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_00]: Is that when their quarterback is out, when their players are missing, when like, they're not an 100%, they still find way to win games against teams that should win games against because that's like,
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: Everything like I said this a couple years ago and then they started to like be terrible.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of a weird thing to say was that like the regular season is really just about making sure you make it to the playoffs and you're like peaking as you hit the playoffs.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's really what it's about right beyond like statistical like awards or whatever.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: And like for the Niners, that's what this game is.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's about like banking a win.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_00]: That way when it comes to like week 17, week 16, you're not looking back and being like, if only they had actually taken care of business against the Saints, we wouldn't be in the situation.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, it'll be fun.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be close.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we haven't predicted particularly close games, but I think it's closer than like,
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been a wrap party was playing it's an early morning game for the Niners, so that's a little it's a lot on fun that like lots lots of things are against them for like what should have been like a relatively easy week to game they've got to they've got to deal with a lot but they're a good team they'll figure it out.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: Indeed.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well said.
