- 0:00They're going to have a ton of money to spend.
- 0:01Why not put it in one of the top three offensive players in the
- 0:05league? We're going to be looking at
- 0:14Aaron Judge and saying that he can't win the big game, Michael
- 0:17Jordan said. I played 82 games.
- 0:20You don't see the fun doing that.
- 0:22A. Game where you got to go?
- 0:24Before I told you giant feet Saquon Barkley this.

- 2:27Speedy, how are you? I enjoying the Olympics as well.
- 2:29I always enjoyable to see. Like you could bump around so
- 2:31many different sports, especially having Peacock.
- 2:33You just bump around whatever sport you want.
- 2:35I was watching a lot of the the snowboard cross, which is the
- 2:37direct racing snowboard. That's always been my favorite
- 2:39of the because a lot of times it's just time trials or
- 2:42something like that and they actually go right at each other.
- 2:45I think 6 different snowboarders all at once was cool.
- 2:48I like a lot of the skiing. I like a lot of the skating as
- 2:50well, like you were saying. And now we're watching some
- 2:51speed skating, which can always get intense.
- 2:53It's, it's fun to watch. And like I said, you root on
- 2:56your country and, and if you're an Italian descent or your
- 3:00Russian descent or whatever, Ukraine descent, Lithuanian
- 3:04descent, you're rooting on your, you know, your, your
- 3:08nationality. So it's always fun to watch and
- 3:12the competitive nature. And like I said, you get the
- 3:15chance to watch sports that you don't get to watch every single
- 3:18day. I, I introduced curling to
- 3:21Brittany last night and she like, she was like, what the
- 3:23hell is this? And she's like, this looks
- 3:25boring. And I said, it's strategy.
- 3:27Have you ever played shuffleboard?
- 3:30And she's like, yeah, but this, this is completely different
- 3:32than shuffleboard. I said, no, it's not.
- 3:34I mean, it's shuffleboard on ice, but just a little bit more
- 3:38strategy. And it's fun to watch because if
- 3:41you understand the game and you understand the point system and
- 3:45the competitive nature when, when there's 10 rounds of
- 3:48curling, it's interesting how they have strategy and, and they
- 3:53contest certain things that happen during the game and, and
- 3:57obviously call timeouts, they go to their coaches, their coaches
- 4:01come down and they're giving them advice.
- 4:04And it's, it's interesting. It really is.
- 4:06It's fun to watch. And like I said, it's all
- 4:09competitive nature and you get to see all these different
- 4:11countries and all these different sports compete against
- 4:14one another. It's always fun to watch.
- 4:17All right, the NBA All Star game is right around the corner and
- 4:20it begins on Friday with, of course, a couple new changes to
- 4:26the format this year. Commissioner Adam Silver, who we
- 4:29absolutely love, and the league have decided on going back to
- 4:34the USA versus the world format with three teams and two USA
- 4:39teams, stars and stripes and an international All Star team.
- 4:45Charles Barkley took shots at both LeBron James and Kevin
- 4:49Durant, saying they have turned the event into a mockery because
- 4:54they don't show any effort. Duran, who took offense,
- 4:57basically told Barkley I don't want your life.
- 5:01That's what he says and took shots at him and and other old
- 5:06heads criticizing the Americans effort but not Jokic or Luka for
- 5:11doing basically the same. There will be several new events
- 5:16this year in the lead up of the game on Sunday such as the HBCU
- 5:23Challenge, the Shooting Stars Challenge and the G League All
- 5:27Star Game that is separate from the Rising Stars Challenge.
- 5:33The Dunk Contest continues to struggle to get big stars to
- 5:38participate with Jackson Hayes, the Lakers center and the only
- 5:43starter of the bunch, as well as Spurs forward Carter Bryant,
- 5:48Heath forward Kasha Johnson and Matt and and Magic guard and son
- 5:53of former Dunk contest winner Jason Richardson.
- 5:57Jay's Richardson. I'm sorry, Jay's Richardson, I
- 6:00don't know what that means. Speedy in the three-point
- 6:03contest, rookie Kahn Canuble, Norman Powell, Bobby Portis,
- 6:10Tyrese Maxi, Jamal Murray, Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker
- 6:14and Damian Lillard, who will compete despite not playing all
- 6:19season with a torn Achilles. I look at the everybody looks
- 6:25forward to the skills competition and Slam thunk
- 6:27contest. And when you look at the names
- 6:29that stick out to you, there's nobody on this list that excites
- 6:33me. I would have liked to see and as
- 6:35again, some of the young talent that we've seen that has been
- 6:38drafted over the last couple years, the last time I could
- 6:41remember that this was fun to watch was I think who's your
- 6:45Lando Magic superstar that is now with the Nuggets, Aaron
- 6:49Gordon. Aaron Gordon, who was the other
- 6:50guy from the Bulls? Yeah, Levine.
- 6:54So it was Levine and Aaron Gordon.
- 6:56What was the last dunk contest? That really stuck out to me.
- 6:59That was fun to watch. And then if you remember in the
- 7:02past and then and again the Vince Carter time with with
- 7:06Tracy McGrady and those you want to see the young superstars
- 7:11compete. Why hasn't Anthony Edwards put
- 7:13himself in the slam dunk contest now that LeBron James is walking
- 7:17away from the game of basketball?
- 7:18Everybody wanted to see LeBron James compete in the slam dunk
- 7:22contest. Why doesn't he do it now at the
- 7:24tail end of his career? That would be fun to watch to
- 7:26see the the end of his career end up the way everybody wanted
- 7:30to see it in the beginning in a slam dunk contest.
- 7:33I I mean the dunk contest always stands out And and again, you
- 7:37have guys over the last couple of years that are coming from
- 7:40the G League has won multiple times.
- 7:43Nate Robinson, I remember won three times in a row or three
- 7:46times in his career as a dunker because he was 5 foot 8 and he
- 7:51could just jump high against Dwight Howard, who is coming out
- 7:53of you know, coming out of what, what do they call it telephone,
- 7:57you know, wherever he was coming out booth as a Superman and
- 8:00jumping. I mean, I just, it's become a
- 8:03spectacle. It's not not fun to watch
- 8:06anymore. Am I looking forward to the slam
- 8:08dunk contest? No, because none of these guys
- 8:11really stand out to me. And that goes to if if you can't
- 8:14find these guys, if you can't find NBA players that can dunk
- 8:18or want a dunk, then you bring some of these St.
- 8:20Ballers in to compete against the NBA players.
- 8:22I would like to see a street baller, a New York or a Chicago
- 8:26St. bowler. I mean, I, I've seen guys like
- 8:30Shaquille O'Neal host slam dunk contest for guys that are more
- 8:34known for Instagram and, and, and all the different platforms
- 8:38that they're on doing all these amazing crazy dunks.
- 8:40I would like to see one of these guys compete against NBA
- 8:43superstars in a dunk contest. That would be fun to watch.
- 8:47The way they're putting this together makes absolutely no
- 8:49sense. As far as the USA world format,
- 8:52who cares? It's only to me, it's just to
- 8:56draw the fan or have the fans or maybe even the players get to
- 9:00compete with each other and and maybe the World Team knocks off
- 9:04the United States team. Because if you look at the
- 9:05talent on the World Team with guys like Giannis and Luka and
- 9:09Yokich, I mean, the World Team is much better than the United
- 9:12States team if you look at the talent.
- 9:14But again, the, as far as the All Star game, it's just
- 9:19honestly, it's just a perk. It's, it's an opportunity.
- 9:23I think you make money playing in the All Star game.
- 9:25I think these players make a certain amount of $100,000.
- 9:27So it's extra money for the players.
- 9:29It's put on your, your basketball card or put on your
- 9:32Wikipedia that you're, you, you're a six time All Star, A5
- 9:36time All Star. I guess that's nice to have on
- 9:39your, your record if you want to be, you know, a Hall of Famer.
- 9:42I mean, there's nothing that really makes the All Star Game
- 9:46weekend spectacular except the extravaganza that it brings to
- 9:50the table wherever it's being held.
- 9:52All the after parties, all the opportunities to get to hang out
- 9:56with the players or the players get to hang out with one another
- 9:58and party with one another with their families.
- 10:01I honestly think that this should be rid of, I think the
- 10:04All Star Game in not only just football.
- 10:07I think hockey should keep it because I think hockey is still
- 10:10competitive. It's still fun.
- 10:12I like what the NHL did last year with USA and Canada.
- 10:16I think they should do that every single year because it
- 10:18shows the competitive nature that teams want to play for
- 10:21their colors and their countries.
- 10:23That's cool, but this with the basketball and football, I, I
- 10:29and even baseball I, I think it's the Home Run Derby stupid.
- 10:32Now I and and and even the baseball game, nobody plays
- 10:35hard. It doesn't mean anything.
- 10:37Get rid of them. Get rid of them.
- 10:40I, I just, I don't know how how far I want to put this for the
- 10:43NBA to freaking understand that it's not competitive anymore.
- 10:48It's not It doesn't. That's absolutely what I think
- 10:51of Adam Silver now. Adam Silver is, is a joke and
- 10:55what he's done and what he's put together for the All Star and
- 10:58even for the NBA as a whole. I like what he's done.
- 11:01I'll tell you this, Adam Silver and all these commissioners have
- 11:04found ways to bring in more TV deals, more money for players to
- 11:09make and and owners to to live off of and and really build the
- 11:13product with the new opportunities to make money.
- 11:17There's no question that he's done that.
- 11:18But me, Speedy Fish, Jabba, any one of us could put that
- 11:23together if we have the a big brand, a big a a very popular
- 11:28brand. Think about this and I'll go
- 11:30back to the NBA players. The NBA players are the most
- 11:33popular on the social medias. If you look at LeBron James,
- 11:38you'll look at Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
- 11:41If you follow them, you know that everybody is interactive
- 11:44with these guys. They're they're the most
- 11:46interactive out of all the athletes in professional sports.
- 11:50So the NBA has done very, very well working through social
- 11:53media and content, and they created platforms for these
- 11:57players to bring in opportunities to make money on
- 12:01and off the basketball courts. But when you look at the All
- 12:04Star Game and what the All Star, All Star, All Star game brings,
- 12:08Charles Barkley is absolutely right.
- 12:10There is no more more Michael Jordans or Larry Birds or Magic
- 12:14Johnsons. There is no more competitive
- 12:16nature. These guys are best friends.
- 12:18These guys are godfathers of each others kids.
- 12:22These guys don't hate each other, they love each other.
- 12:24There's no, there's no attack by, by any of these, these teams
- 12:30or these players against one another.
- 12:31They're, they love each other. And in, in the olden days, in
- 12:35the 80s and the 90s, Michael Jordan couldn't stand Isaiah
- 12:37Thomas. Isaiah Thomas couldn't stand
- 12:40Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan.
- 12:42I mean, Bill Lambier couldn't stand the Philadelphia 76ers.
- 12:47And, and I don't know, doc doctor, you know, any one of
- 12:53these guys. I'm trying to think of pop pop
- 12:55into my head. What, what I remember in the 80s
- 12:57and the 90s, Charles Barkley couldn't stand Shaquille O'Neal.
- 13:00Now they're buddies and they're brothers in, in those days, in
- 13:03the 80s and the 90s, they didn't like each other.
- 13:06They didn't like Patrick Ewing, couldn't stand, couldn't stand
- 13:10the, the, the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan and, and, and,
- 13:14and guys like John Starks couldn't stand Horace Grant on
- 13:18the, the, the Chicago Bulls. It's there's no competitive
- 13:22nature anymore. These guys are best friends.
- 13:24So that to have an All Star game where there's no competitive,
- 13:28no, none of these guys want to compete against each other.
- 13:30Nobody wants to dunk because they're afraid of getting hurt.
- 13:33Their three-point contest. That's great shooting 3
- 13:35pointers. All these guys, I could shoot a
- 13:37three pointer if I'm shooting 500 threes every single day.
- 13:41I'm not saying I can shoot them like Con Canubal, but I I'm I'm
- 13:45I'm going to hit a pretty good lick of the these shots if I'm
- 13:47shooting 500 shots a game a day. So I just don't think there's
- 13:51any competitive nature anymore. And if there's no competitive
- 13:53nature for the All Star game and and these skills competitions,
- 13:57then get rid of them. Yeah, I was going to mention
- 14:00that the dunk contest I think is something that can get overblown
- 14:03with like the type of injuries you can suffer too.
- 14:05Like you could low manage all you want, but a lot of the
- 14:07injuries that are are in the NBA for a lot of these day-to-day
- 14:11things are even lower. Lower body injuries, ankle
- 14:13injuries, tissue, stuff like that.
- 14:15It's not something that's just achieved by, oh, I'm going to
- 14:17fall down after a dunk or anything like that or I'm going
- 14:19to I'm going to do. It's one thing.
- 14:21It's a leg injury on a lift off type thing.
- 14:23But again, that's something that if you're a younger guy, you're
- 14:25going to be well conditioned for.
- 14:26That's why I think you're right. Anthony Edwards is probably
- 14:28something that's perfect. I'm not saying veteran guys
- 14:30should have to compete in the dunk.
- 14:31Contest. Why doesn't Cooper Flair
- 14:33compete? Well, he's hurt right now.
- 14:35I'm just saying he's actually hurt, right?
- 14:36That's not what I'm that's not what I'm saying.
- 14:38I understand he's hurt. Why doesn't he compete in a slam
- 14:42dunk contest? Even if he wasn't hurt, is he
- 14:44competing in the slam dunk contest?
- 14:46He's not right, so that's not what I'm saying.
- 14:49Why aren't the young superstars going out there and competing in
- 14:53the big contests so all the young fans get a chance to see
- 14:57how athletic and how gifted they are as players?
- 15:00Yeah, the Anthony Edwards, the Wendy's guys like that's.
- 15:02Not what I'm talking. Those are the guys that should
- 15:04be competing in the dunk contest because those are the big names.
- 15:07Why shouldn't Cooper flag compete in the the slam dunk
- 15:10contest? Stop saying he's hurt.
- 15:12If he wasn't, he's not competing in it.
- 15:15I'm saying this, if you're a young superstar, you've been in
- 15:18a league for two or three or even 4 years and you've never
- 15:22been in one of these competitions and you have
- 15:25something to give to these competitions on the athletic
- 15:28gifts that you have. You should be in these
- 15:31competitions for not, not for your peers, but for the fans out
- 15:35there wanting to see you dunk, do a wheel.
- 15:38I, I don't know, reverse pump, slam dunk or whatever the hell
- 15:42you call these crazy, weird dunks that you have.
- 15:45That's what I want to see. You want to entertain people.
- 15:48If you're not going to entertain people, you shouldn't have these
- 15:51competitions. Yeah, even international too,
- 15:53they're trying to push all this USA versus the world thing too.
- 15:56Like you could try to compete these kind of things in the with
- 15:59the dunk contest too with again, somebody like Wendy, all these
- 16:01other international superstars that are coming.
- 16:04Obviously, Giannis is a veteran guy, so maybe he had his chance
- 16:06earlier in his career. But Even so, like that could
- 16:09uplift that could get these more these kids to watch in Greece
- 16:12too. Like you want to be able to
- 16:14brand it that way. And then you have all these guys
- 16:16that want to drop out. And that's why I was kind of
- 16:18going to get. Out.
- 16:18They're not dropping out. They're not even getting offers.
- 16:20And that's where you look at this generational gap that
- 16:23you're seeing that LeBron has brought in today.
- 16:25It's it's a lot of the LeBron generation started this with not
- 16:28warning to do it. Yeah.
- 16:29And obviously there were some younger guys after that too,
- 16:31like you said Aaron Gordon and Zach Levine did after that.
- 16:34I think it's really the 2014 like and before that and and
- 16:382003 between those two errors. Those are the errors of the guys
- 16:41that were all these guys that said, oh, I don't want to
- 16:43participate in this kind of thing outside of Dwight Howard
- 16:44and a couple others that didn't that didn't want to do it.
- 16:47And now you're seeing a carry over into this generation where
- 16:50a lot of these guys are the ones that are outside of Anthony
- 16:53Edwards. They're not as outspoken.
- 16:54Now they're actually they're doing it a little more
- 16:56methodically. And I think that's where I think
- 16:58Kevin Durant's trying to get, oh, why is Nicola Yokich and
- 17:00Luka Doncic not being slinner? OK, but you're not doing it
- 17:03either, Kevin. So like, it's, it's not
- 17:04something that you could just attack these international
- 17:07stars. They're trying to grow their
- 17:08country. Does anybody want to see Yokage
- 17:10dunk? I mean, he's what, 260 lbs and
- 17:14he's a six foot, 11, seven foot man.
- 17:17I don't want to see him. Luka Doncic, he doesn't really
- 17:20have that athletic ability to dunk.
- 17:22But Cooper Flag, we've seen what he can do with a basketball,
- 17:25especially his dunking. If you look at some of the young
- 17:28superstars that we've seen, some of the young guards that they
- 17:31have. How about the kid Harper?
- 17:33Why don't we see him in a dunk contest?
- 17:35I would love to see young Harper in in in the dunk contest.
- 17:38Some of the young superstars that we've heard over the years,
- 17:41the athletic gifts that they have now look at this draft
- 17:44class that's coming out in 2 thousand 2627.
- 17:47These guys are totally gifted, so talented.
- 17:50Are we ever going to see these guys in a dunk contest?
- 17:52The BYU kid or Cam Boozer or even the kid from Kansas, these
- 17:57guys are athletically gifted. Why aren't, are they going to be
- 18:01in the dunk contest next year or they're going to be just like
- 18:04all these other NBA players? You know what?
- 18:06I don't need to be in these contests.
- 18:08I don't have anything to prove. I'm making millions and millions
- 18:10of dollars. I earn the right to be here.
- 18:12I don't need to entertain the fans.
- 18:14Meanwhile, the All Star Games are there to entertain.
- 18:17Entertain the fans, not hang out with your buddies or hang out
- 18:20with your family. You're there because you're an
- 18:22All Star. You're a superstar.
- 18:23You were invited to entertain the fans.
- 18:26Yeah. And I think that's why you're
- 18:27seeing all these other events that are coming in these
- 18:28secondary events. I, I think part of it wants to
- 18:31grow the diversity of the game too, obviously with the HBCU and
- 18:34some of the shooting stars. And they want to, they want the
- 18:37NBA wants to make it very inclusive, which I'm good on
- 18:39that standpoint too. But they're also trying to reach
- 18:41because they know that if you're not going to get young talent or
- 18:44if you're not going to get veteran talent, to want to be
- 18:46able to give it their all, you're going to have to have the
- 18:47young talent shine in a different way.
- 18:49Michael Jordan, when he was doing these dunk contests
- 18:52against Wilkins, Dominique Wilkins and all that other
- 18:55stuff, Michael Jordan did it for the fans.
- 18:58He didn't do it for his peers. He went out there because he
- 19:02wanted to compete and he wanted the fans to be wowed and wowed
- 19:06by his ability to soar through the sky.
- 19:10All right. Same thing with Vince Carter.
- 19:12The ability that he had, He knew he was athletically gifted and
- 19:15he wanted to show everybody on a national stage that this guy
- 19:18could go out there and do dunks and and and show things that
- 19:22nobody's ever seen before on a nationally televised, you know,
- 19:26you know, event. And now you have you'll have all
- 19:29these young superstars that some people say are more athletically
- 19:33gifted than guys like Michael Jordan, like Kobe Bryant, like
- 19:37Vince Carter. And none of these guys want to
- 19:39compete in these in these games anymore in in these
- 19:42competitions. You know why?
- 19:44Because they don't want to get hurt and they don't care about
- 19:46the fans. That to me is a big problem.
- 19:49The NBA needs to step in. If this isn't going to work and
- 19:52Adam Silver can't get these guys to compete.
- 19:54They get rid of these competitions, get rid of the All
- 19:57Star game. I don't want to see flag
- 19:59football in the NFL anymore. They don't tackle, they don't
- 20:02hit, they don't do anything. They don't look like they play.
- 20:05They invite Shador Sanders and Justin Fields to play in these
- 20:09games that nobody gives a crap about because nobody else wants
- 20:12to play in against. If these players do not want to
- 20:15compete and these players do not want to go besides hanging out
- 20:18with their peers and enjoy enjoying the extravaganza
- 20:22against, you know at these events, just watching all these
- 20:25self-proclaimed super or young. Young players or half assed
- 20:29second round picks. Go out and and and compete in
- 20:32the dunk contest. Then get rid of the dunk
- 20:35contest. Yeah.
- 20:36And the other problem they have too is like when it's located in
- 20:38the season too, where a lot of these players are already low
- 20:40managing as it is, and that's what this generation is, and
- 20:43they're going to be stuck doing it.
- 20:44It's not like you could say, all right, let's go push the event
- 20:46to the beginning of the season, because then you don't have a
- 20:47good enough sample of who actually should be All Stars and
- 20:49who shouldn't, even though it's just going to be a popularity
- 20:51contest. Anyway, and I want to say
- 20:52something to all the fans. We we always trying to find
- 20:55stories that we can draw fans to kind of give our take.
- 20:59And that's it's right now with the transition of the NFL
- 21:02season. Now that's over.
- 21:05And now we're we're going to go into March Madness and
- 21:07baseball's still not here. And you have hockey and
- 21:09basketball. Hockey right now is it?
- 21:12It's right now it's, it's on hold because they're in the
- 21:15Olympics. All the players are in the
- 21:17Olympics. So the only thing to talk about
- 21:19right now is the NBA and LeBron James is a big story and this
- 21:23stupid All Star extravaganza that's coming up this weekend
- 21:27that nobody cares about. I mean, nobody because every
- 21:31single player, I don't want to hear about Jason Richardson's
- 21:35son in in the slam dunk contest. This isn't Jason Richardson.
- 21:39So there's nobody that really stands out in the dunk contest.
- 21:43Yeah, the three-point contest. I it's cool getting to see Con
- 21:46Canupal and and Mitchell and all these other guys and and now you
- 21:49get to see Damian Lillard come back to shoot threes because
- 21:52he's been out the whole season. That's great.
- 21:54But nobody cares about the three-point contest in these
- 21:57kills competition. Everybody looks forward to the
- 22:00dunk contest. And by the way, the dunk contest
- 22:03have been horrible the last four years.
- 22:06Horrible. They Errol, they have a stat and
- 22:08I don't know if you know about this stat speedy.
- 22:10It's called the dunk score. And they they measure like how
- 22:13good a dunk is in game and the figure and that basically tells
- 22:17you who the best dunkers are this year.
- 22:20The names of the top Justin Champagne from Washington, Shade
- 22:24and Sharp, who is the guy that I personally would love to see in
- 22:28the dunk dunk contest from Portland.
- 22:31I'm going to put up some of his dunks right now while we're
- 22:33talking. He was like that at Kentucky,
- 22:34too, but he barely played. Unbelievable.
- 22:37And he's been playing pretty well.
- 22:38He's really developing. He just hammers it down on
- 22:41everybody. Jalen Smith, he's another guy
- 22:43that a big dunker on. Yeko Congu is #4 and Zion
- 22:46Williamson, everybody knows Zion can dunk.
- 22:49I'd love to see Zion do one of these before he loses his UPS.
- 22:52You know, Brandon Miller has really high dunk scores.
- 22:56He's another real high flyer, young guy on the Hornets.
- 23:01Booz Ellis, we've already seen do it.
- 23:03He's he's somebody that's a good dunker.
- 23:05And then it's just, you know, a bunch of guys.
- 23:08We don't really hear from much. Nobody, nobody cares about the
- 23:12All Star game. Everybody cares about the skills
- 23:14competition. And the only thing that I look
- 23:17forward to in the skills competition is the dunk contest.
- 23:20That's all. I look forward to it.
- 23:22That whole All Star weekend is completely ridiculous without a
- 23:27great dunk contest. And every single year for the
- 23:30last three or four years has been horrible to watch.
- 23:33You listen to guys like Kenny Smith and and all the other
- 23:38guys, Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley when they talk
- 23:40about these dunks and they're they're grading in 50s when
- 23:43they're not even great dunks. There's nothing, there's nothing
- 23:46impressive about these dunkers And why?
- 23:49Because they're just grading at that high because there's
- 23:52nothing impressive about any of them.
- 23:53So it's just you. Know the Mac Mcclung dunks were
- 23:56good, except he wasn't an NBA player doing him.
- 23:59He was like a dunk specialist. And Mcclung doesn't want to
- 24:02compete anymore. He's done it, what, 3-4 years?
- 24:06He was dominant, as a matter of fact, my cousin and his brother
- 24:09got a chance to see, to get to meet Mclonkey.
- 24:13He trains out here. He does these dunk sessions out
- 24:16here on trying to create new dunks because he just loves to
- 24:21do it. And, and he got a chance to meet
- 24:23my, my cousin's got to meet Mclonk and it was pretty cool.
- 24:26I mean, I seen the picture. I, I was actually send you the
- 24:28picture so you can post it up. But it's, it's pretty cool.
- 24:32But man, I've heard Mcclunk is a really, really nice guy.
- 24:34It would have been cool to see Mcclunk compete until somebody
- 24:37beats him, but I don't think anybody is going to be able to
- 24:39beat this kid and because there's nobody anywhere close to
- 24:43the talent in these dunk contests with with Mcclung, even
- 24:47these guys that we see that were that the list of guys that are
- 24:49going to be in the dunk contest this year.
- 24:51I don't think I'm excited about any one of them.
- 24:53It's horrible. I, I just, I'm not looking
- 24:56forward to the, the NBA All Star weekends.
- 24:59And again, this, this is probably the turning point of
- 25:04the sports year because like I said, the NHL is on hold.
- 25:09They're at the Olympics. The NBA is the only thing going
- 25:11on. Baseball's pitchers and catchers
- 25:14are coming up, but baseball doesn't start for another
- 25:16probably 3-4 weeks until spring training.
- 25:20So we're not, there's really nothing to talk about baseball
- 25:24and March Madness is exciting because it's three weeks away, 4
- 25:27weeks away. But again, this is this is like
- 25:30the stolen part. I mean, the masters isn't the
- 25:33masters coming up. That's.
- 25:34April, That's the right. After so, I mean, so this is
- 25:38probably the worst time when it comes to sports.
- 25:39So you're reaching when it comes to sports and radio and
- 25:42television because you're trying to find something to talk about.
- 25:45It's this time and then the worst.
- 25:47I think this is the second worst.
- 25:48The worst is definitely middle of July baseball All Star break
- 25:52when there's literally just nothing else.
- 25:55There's no football yet. Basketball and hockey are over.
- 25:58Is literally is. There's nothing on.
- 26:00Well, Pitch Grid Pod says the Premier League and he's right.
- 26:05It is heating up right now I'm. Sorry, soccer is he, football is
- 26:09is heating up. When I speak to Jeff, he says
- 26:11this is the best time to to bet on European or soccer, whatever
- 26:16you want to call it, because this is a time for the
- 26:18championships and like that so. I love betting on overs of 2
- 26:221/2. So much fun watch.
- 26:25I love playing soccer as a kid I was I was really good.
- 26:27I was a center forward and I was a goalie and I dominated it
- 26:31until everyone got bigger, faster and stronger than I was
- 26:34and that was it for me. But I love the game.
- 26:37I just I never really understood that as a spectator thing except
- 26:41like you know, during the World Cup and stuff.
- 26:43I've watched it. I don't know, Errol.
- 26:45I'll try, I'll try to learn some Premier League for you if you
- 26:48think we need to talk about it, but.
- 26:51We might have to with what, with everything that's going on with
- 26:54basketball is like nothing to talk about well.
- 26:56Well, there's so much drama with these Divas in the NBA.
- 26:59They like to keep us busy, you know?
- 27:02Definitely. Divas.
- 27:03All right, ladies and gentlemen, Concrete, concrete jungle
- 27:09carousel. All right.
- 27:11We're going to start this. This is going to be a new
- 27:13regular segment. We do guys, whenever there isn't
- 27:17any major New York stories, we're going to have like a New
- 27:19York, like wrap it up, talk about everything in New York
- 27:23segment. We're calling it the concrete
- 27:25jungle carousel. So here we go.
- 27:28We're going to start it off and we're going to move it in to the
- 27:31first topic of it, which is basketball.
- 27:33We'll start with the Knicks and Nets.
- 27:35The Knicks, they just picked up somebody.
- 27:39The Spurs had just released Jeremy so Chan and was bought
- 27:45out and he's expected to sign with the Knicks one eligible.
- 27:48He's 6822 years old. The Spurs have a lot of young
- 27:52talent. He wasn't getting any reps.
- 27:53He's basically at the end of his rookie contract type of a deal.
- 27:57He gets to try try to pick it up with the Knicks.
- 28:00I feel like there's a place for him in that rotation.
- 28:03I, I love the move because one, he's a great rebounder, he's a
- 28:07great defender and he's going to put a lot of pressure and he's
- 28:10another guy, he's another Josh Hart.
- 28:11He's going to go up for rebounds.
- 28:13He's going to be aggressive. And that's what they did when
- 28:15they brought in Jose Alvarado and and they brought him, they
- 28:19brought this guy. Now they're bringing this guy
- 28:21in. They're going to give you that,
- 28:22that grit that the Knicks have had problems all season having
- 28:26these guys. And I'm not saying that some of
- 28:28the guys that are OG Ananobi and but OG Ananobi isn't grit,
- 28:32doesn't have grit. McHale Bridges doesn't have
- 28:35grid, but there are guys that call Anthony Towns or even Jalen
- 28:38Brunson. They don't play defense.
- 28:40They're offensive type of players.
- 28:42And when you bring in Jose Alvarado and you bring in a guy
- 28:45like Soshin, these are the guys that are going to be able to
- 28:47defend and they're going to be able to to put pressure on the
- 28:50best offensive players on the opposing team.
- 28:53Yeah, 6 foot eight, really good long defender, good versatile
- 28:57defender, can play both the two and the three, maybe in a
- 28:59smaller bench line up with the four could could work in certain
- 29:02matchups. And his offensive, the game was
- 29:04just bit bad this year, but was 11 points per game, pretty
- 29:07solid, not as much 3 point shooter, but decent inside
- 29:09shooter. And that it could give a little
- 29:11bit as well, maybe as a second or third bench option on the
- 29:14offensive side if you need to do it.
- 29:16And I think Mike Brown's going to make that kind of thing work
- 29:18because he actually plays as younger guys.
- 29:20He's still very young, 22 years old.
- 29:22Definitely someone they can bring back on a shorter deal as
- 29:24well, even after this year. Before we move away from the
- 29:27Knicks, we've got to talk about Alvarado a little bit more.
- 29:29This guy just went eight for 13 from the field.
- 29:33All thirteen of those shots were three pointers.
- 29:36He ended up putting up 26 points.
- 29:38He had five steals. They call him Grand Theft
- 29:41Alvarado for a reason. There was 1 possession arrow.
- 29:44He hit, he took a shot, he bricked it.
- 29:47They get the rebound. He steals the ball at half
- 29:49court, gets another shot, doesn't get it again, steals it
- 29:54again at half court and instead of shooting, gets the assist on
- 29:58a three-point in the corner. This guy's a dog.
- 30:01This guy's awesome. And he said that he's spending
- 30:03the All Star break in the lab with Mike Brown.
- 30:06He's a Brooklyn native. I mean, pump this into my veins,
- 30:10man. This is the best thing you can
- 30:12get at the trade deadline. He grew.
- 30:13He grew up a New York Knick fan. He grew up around Madison Square
- 30:17Garden. This was the place he wanted to
- 30:18play for. There was no other team he
- 30:20wanted to go to, and now he has the opportunity to play, play
- 30:23for the colors that he always grew up wanting to play for and
- 30:27at MSG in front of all the fans. He's a hometown kid.
- 30:32His family goes to the games and you could see the aggressive
- 30:35nature, the the speed that he puts on the court, on the
- 30:38basketball court. He plays that Mike Brown type of
- 30:41offense up and down the court. He was the perfect match, the
- 30:45perfect fit to the what the New York Knicks were looking for
- 30:48defensively. The problem last year against
- 30:51guys like Tyrese Halliburton is they didn't can have a guy that
- 30:54can defend him, get up onto him and make him force him to do
- 30:57things he was uncomfortable to do.
- 30:59Now they have that guy and they have a player option next year.
- 31:02I expect Jose Alvarado to be a Knick for a very, very long
- 31:06time. He's still fairly young.
- 31:08I, I love the kid and, and he's what you want as a New York
- 31:11Knick fan. He's he's not that great.
- 31:14He's got everything you want as a New York basketball fan.
- 31:17So I it was a slam dunk for Leon Rose and another absolute slam
- 31:21dunk home run Grand Slam for that executive bunch of Leon
- 31:26Rose and Worldwide West. Yeah, You also have a defensive
- 31:28line up towards the end of the games that really could work
- 31:31when, if you're up by 10 or something, you could really just
- 31:33focus on that, give Brunson some rest.
- 31:35Even then, when you could put when McBride comes back in the
- 31:38playoffs, you could put him there at the 1.
- 31:40You could put Sochon then at the 2 with with OG and Anobi at the
- 31:43four. And Mitchell Robinson.
- 31:44Three and Robinson at the five, right?
- 31:46You have that kind of thing for like a defensive game ending up
- 31:49by 12 or 3 minutes to go line up in the playoffs.
- 31:51I love. It that's what it is.
- 31:53It's a playoff lineup. That's what we haven't had with
- 31:55Tibbs. Tibbs just had one lineup, you
- 31:57know what I mean? Like that's just how it was.
- 32:00Now we have a mix and match for whatever you throw at us.
- 32:03We've got an answer for you. I love it.
- 32:05Let's move on to hockey. Obviously hockey's at the break
- 32:08right now. Olympic hockey break.
- 32:10There was a trade a couple weeks ago between the Islanders and
- 32:12Devils. Andre Plot going to the
- 32:15Islanders. Obviously a long time player.
- 32:18The Devils before that I believe he was with.
- 32:21Tampa. Manager Darsh in Tampa, right?
- 32:24So he was real good in Tampa. He's a veteran, 34 years old.
- 32:30Makes sense to fill out the lineup.
- 32:33Also traded for Siplakov the Devils in return, Devils are
- 32:38taking all reclamation projects at this point of the season.
- 32:42It was a slam dunk for the New York Islanders.
- 32:44First of all, he won a Stanley Cup.
- 32:45He has an understanding how to lead and Darsh was a guy that
- 32:50wants to bring his own guys in because of the type of GM he
- 32:55wants to be there with the New York Islanders.
- 32:57And and Palat is is a guy that could put the puck in the net.
- 33:01He is he scored a lot of goals in the playoffs over the years
- 33:04with the Tampa Bay Lightning. They're trying to build a course
- 33:07of talent and and veteran players that can give them that
- 33:10boost that they're going to need if they make that playoff run.
- 33:13I think it was a slam dunk for the Islanders and they really
- 33:15didn't give up anything for him. So actually for the the trades
- 33:19that the Islanders made, they got more draft picks back.
- 33:22I think they got a third round draft pick back for Pelot and
- 33:26they get, they got Pelot who scored more goals than the kid
- 33:29that they traded Max, I forget his last Tavola.
- 33:32So I I think it was a slam dunk for the New York Island.
- 33:35Yeah, Pelot is even when he was like a third line player on the
- 33:38on the Lightning in the playoffs for their first, their first
- 33:41stretch of that were one of their best playoff scorers.
- 33:43There was a reason they kept him for a while when they had to get
- 33:46rid of Kolorin and Tyler Johnson and from that their kid line at
- 33:49the time. So he has the playoff experience
- 33:51that a definitely team like the Islanders could use with a very
- 33:54young team overall. And again, we've seen obviously
- 33:56bars Allen Horvat have been an experience in the playoffs.
- 33:58But this is this is a two and three group that probably is
- 34:02care about. He was a, he was a big part of
- 34:04that Stanley Cup championship team.
- 34:06I think he, if I'm not mistaken, he scored like nine goals on
- 34:09that run. He he could score goals in the
- 34:11playoffs. And I think that's the way Darsh
- 34:13is, is looking at it. If, if you make that playoff
- 34:15run, you need a guy that's been in those situations and can help
- 34:18you win. And I think Pelada is that kind
- 34:20of guy. It makes a lot of sense.
- 34:22I I think that's a great addition.
- 34:23I was living in Tampa. I got to see the end of that run
- 34:27by that team. That was an awesome team.
- 34:29He was a big part of it. The Rangers are clearly going to
- 34:33sell off Vincent Trochek before the trade deadline after the
- 34:37roster freeze of the Olympics. Right now we're just hearing who
- 34:41the suitors are. Probably smart that they waited
- 34:43till after the deadline. No reason to wait on Panera and
- 34:47get him out of town. They weren't going to get a ton
- 34:48for him anyway, but they should get a lot more for Trochek
- 34:52contracts. More manageable.
- 34:54I think he's under control as well for an extra year speedy.
- 34:58Correct me if I'm wrong about. That three more years after
- 35:01this? So he had, so they had.
- 35:02So this is like a real deal and he is a good face off man in the
- 35:06middle. He's a two way player.
- 35:08I love watching him play. I am going to hate to see him
- 35:11go, but what can they get from him?
- 35:14And the three teams I'm hearing, the top three are the Mammoth,
- 35:17the Red Wings, and I'm hearing the wild, Billy Guerin.
- 35:23I, I could see them getting a top six player for a TRO check
- 35:27and and maybe a third round draft pick.
- 35:29They're going to get a lot back for him.
- 35:30First of all, he's a two way player.
- 35:32He's a great face off guy and he's a he's, he's a guy that you
- 35:36could just put right into your offense, in your defense, no
- 35:39matter where he goes. The Mammoths, any one of those
- 35:41teams, Minnesota would be the best fit because they're a
- 35:44contender. He's been a part of those kind
- 35:47of teams with the Carolina Hurricanes.
- 35:49I I could see, I could see the somebody like that, the
- 35:52Minnesota, Minnesota team Wild going to make a move for him
- 35:56because they got a lot of lot of players, a lot of talent over
- 35:58there and their farm system is very strong.
- 36:00They're going to get a lot back for Trojic.
- 36:02One, he's still fairly young, 2. He's a great two way player.
- 36:05He's the to me, out of all the guys that they were that are up
- 36:09to trade, he's the best one because he could do the most out
- 36:13of all the players that are available.
- 36:15Yeah, we were talking having a good playoff identity and
- 36:17Minnesota's lacked that for a while despite having good talent
- 36:20on that team. I think somebody like Trochek,
- 36:22who not only wins face off but hits very well for a center as
- 36:25well would be perfect for them. And Fish, I've heard that
- 36:27they've been eyeing him for like 2 months now.
- 36:28They've been just waiting for the Rangers to kind of think
- 36:31that they're not there because the Rangers were kind of stuck
- 36:33in mediocrity even in December and Minnesota always liked.
- 36:35And then Detroit, they have a lot of ex Rangers they've traded
- 36:38with. They've either signed or traded
- 36:39with them over the years too, so that wouldn't surprise me
- 36:41either. They're another young team on
- 36:43the rise. They were looking to make their
- 36:44mark finally, and I think now maybe they feel like they have a
- 36:47core to do that. But I agree, Minnesota kind of
- 36:49makes that perfect sense because they have not won a playoff
- 36:52series by having many good young cores.
- 36:54Since Patrick Walk coached the Colorado Avalanche in 2013,
- 36:58Minnesota beat them as a wild card team.
- 36:59That's the last time they won a playoff series with a lot of
- 37:01good players. The only thing I want for the
- 37:03Rangers if they're going to do this rebuild is build up the
- 37:06middle. Please please get centerman who
- 37:08that are young that can get they can win face.
- 37:11They've been rebuilding. They've been rebuilding since
- 37:141994. Everyone is stupid, they get
- 37:16winger after winger, you know, looking for a big contract.
- 37:20And and so every time. So would you rather Chris jury
- 37:23make that that decision making over the next couple of years or
- 37:27do you bring in another GM that actually or a young GM that
- 37:31actually knows what he's doing and has been successful as an
- 37:34assistant GM or working with the executives for other
- 37:38organizations. Look what the Islanders did.
- 37:39They they fire Lou Labarello because he just couldn't cut it
- 37:43anymore. Too old and they brought in
- 37:45harsh and there were a lot of questions on some of the guys
- 37:48that they were going to bring in, especially some of these
- 37:50suitors that they were looking at.
- 37:52They didn't the Islanders made the right choice.
- 37:54They brought in a younger guy that's never had the opportunity
- 37:57to build a team that has one with another organization for a
- 38:01significant amount of time. I think that's where the Rangers
- 38:03go. Chris Drury is not the guy Chris
- 38:05Drury is not going to build this team in A2 contender team to a
- 38:09contender team. If you look at what he's done in
- 38:11the last five years, he's hired coaches, he's fired coaches and
- 38:14he just hasn't put this team and this organization in the right
- 38:18place. As a matter of fact, he's giving
- 38:19these guys no trade clauses and they're harder to move as we are
- 38:24seeing right in front of her eyes.
- 38:25So you look what they traded. Well, look what they got for
- 38:27Panarin. You could say whatever you want.
- 38:29They got nothing for one of the best players in the league.
- 38:32And I know he's 34, but he's one of the best offensive players
- 38:35still in the league. He has what, 57 points going
- 38:38into the All Star break? I mean, I'm sorry, the Olympic
- 38:40break. I mean, the guy's going to get
- 38:42closer to 100 points than you think, and the Rangers got
- 38:46nothing for him, and you're going to trust Chris Drury to
- 38:49move Trochick and get a lot back from I I think that to me, it's
- 38:53just an absolute debacle. And This is why I think James
- 38:56Dolan is one of the dumbest owners in professional sports.
- 38:59Yes, you mentioned it too, like the the way you win in hockey,
- 39:01no matter like where your star players lie, you need to have
- 39:04three good three depth of centers.
- 39:06Like every team that's won the Stanley Cup I think in the last
- 39:0915 years have had that to some capacity.
- 39:11Yeah, yes, you need defensive depth too.
- 39:13Obviously Vegas and Saint Louis teams like that.
- 39:15But you of other teams like Pittsburgh, those are a great
- 39:17defensive, if I could still win Cups goalies.
- 39:19You could just have random guys break out for them.
- 39:20And look at Vegas like Aiden Hill came out of nowhere.
- 39:23They had four different goalies start in the playoffs like.
- 39:25Do you trust Chris Drury? I must say a cross.
- 39:27Trust. Do you trust him?
- 39:28If you were running this organization, you own this team,
- 39:31do you go into the offseason with a rebuild offseason and
- 39:35trust that Chris Drury is going to make the right?
- 39:37No. Decision.
- 39:37I'm not making a trusted Chris Drury.
- 39:39I'm also not trusting the Rangers prospect development
- 39:41either. That's the other problem they
- 39:42have to solve right now, whether it's their assistant coaches,
- 39:43the scouting staff, whoever is involved in that has to go too
- 39:47because there's too many bad prospects that have good.
- 39:49Prospects and when you bring in AGM, the GM hires his own
- 39:52scouting, his own people, and Chris Drury needs to go just as
- 39:57much as his scouts and the decision makers behind the
- 40:00scenes because they have failed this organization.
- 40:03Don't you think Chris Drury just like, knows how to kiss Dolan's
- 40:06ass better than anybody? Like he survived like that
- 40:10entire situation with John Davidson earlier on?
- 40:13Like they kept him instead of those guys, made you think, you
- 40:16know, if he was kind of playing to the boss a little bit, you
- 40:19know, double dealing, trying to get the job for himself, gets
- 40:21the job for himself. I don't know.
- 40:23What do you think? He's like a big, you know,
- 40:26Jayden sure shots Blues fan, you know, like going to see Dolan
- 40:30and his band out on the island, you know, up in the North Shore,
- 40:34you know, see him just, you know, keep a beat, sing some
- 40:37songs. I, I personally, when I grew up
- 40:40as a hockey player, I knew the Drury family and I knew Chris
- 40:43Drury. He wasn't a likable person.
- 40:45I didn't like his father. I didn't like his cocky, you
- 40:49know, personality. He thought he could play
- 40:51professional baseball just as much as he played professional
- 40:54hockey. He was very conceited.
- 40:56And I think that's the same type of person, the same type of GM
- 40:59he is right now for the New York Rangers as an executive.
- 41:03I don't think he knows what he's doing.
- 41:04I don't know. I don't think he knows how to
- 41:05build an organization in the right state.
- 41:08He has brought in Peter Laviolette, who won a Stanley
- 41:11Cup, who's one of the greatest coaches of, of this time and one
- 41:15of the greatest coach, top 10 greatest coaches of all time.
- 41:18And then you bring in a guy like Sullivan, who's also a very
- 41:21consistent, very popular head coach in the NHL.
- 41:24That's once 2 Stanley Scott, 2 Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh
- 41:28Penguins and very successful and again, the coach of the United
- 41:31States hockey team. So, you know, he's, he's a very
- 41:34successful, you know, personality behind the bench.
- 41:37And I don't know how long he he's going to be, you know, safe
- 41:41at his position because if you if you trust Chris Drury, you
- 41:45know that it's not going to last more than two or three years
- 41:47with that coach if they're not winning.
- 41:49So they're going to fire Sullivan, who was there with the
- 41:51Pittsburgh Penguins for how long?
- 41:53Over 10 years with Sidney Crosby and Mulkin.
- 41:56That's a problem when you know that a coach can't stay there
- 41:58more than two or three years, that there's something going on
- 42:02with the executives and GM up on top.
- 42:05And. They're always going to make the
- 42:05coach the scapegoat, especially for ones that don't develop the
- 42:08young players like Gallon had trouble doing for a while.
- 42:10But Mike Sullivan, actually, it's pretty, pretty good.
- 42:13Not great, but pretty good with the younger players.
- 42:15It's the veteran players that have all fallen off badly this
- 42:17year and that's why they're gonna have to trade.
- 42:18Has he been good with the younger players laughing here?
- 42:20Has been No, not. Laughing here, I'm talking about
- 42:22like the Matthew Robertson's and Will Cooley guys like that.
- 42:25The second tier prospects laughing here I think is busted
- 42:27as it is already. I think there's no coach to save
- 42:30him right now. He had his chance I think two
- 42:32years ago. Three years ago was the best
- 42:34chance to resurrect his career. And look at the 20, 2014 fish
- 42:37like they finally get the center depth finally went face off.
- 42:40So they're not going to even shrink.
- 42:41So they're very fluky. President, trophy team.
- 42:43They were definitely fluky, but you know, a couple of years ago,
- 42:45LA for a year was just like everywhere.
- 42:48He was hustling, he was making plays at the net and he just
- 42:51stopped doing that. Peter la violette this season,
- 42:53Peter la violette and even Capococka was playing under
- 42:57Peter La violette very, very well.
- 42:59And what how long did Peter la Violette stay with the New York
- 43:03Rangers? What was it a year and a half
- 43:05and they found? Locker room debacle and Oh yeah.
- 43:07Yeah, because he's a scapegoat because of the veteran players.
- 43:09Panarin couldn't control his his own attitude.
- 43:12You had guys like Crider, who's a crybaby and.
- 43:15And by the way, I told the beef on all the Ranger fans when
- 43:18Crider scored 52 goals that season, they should trade him in
- 43:21the offseason. No, we can't trade A50 goal
- 43:24scorer. He's the heart and soul of this
- 43:26team. Now he's playing with the the
- 43:28Anaheim Ducks and he's playing pretty well.
- 43:30The Anaheim Ducks is playing pretty well.
- 43:31That whole organization has a, you know, has good leadership
- 43:35and understands what it takes to win with veterans and young
- 43:39players. The Rangers, no matter how young
- 43:41they get and how many veterans they have, if the guy up top
- 43:45doesn't know what he's doing, they're never going to succeed.
- 43:47All right, let's move on to baseball.
- 43:50It's been a silence mostly offseason for the Yankees.
- 43:55You know that. The pitching staff, you know,
- 43:57you're getting guys back, but they're not ready.
- 43:59And on top of that, today we found out that last year's
- 44:03breakthrough, a performer in the playoffs, Cam Schlittler has
- 44:07tweaked his back. Now he's they don't expect him
- 44:10to be out for a while, but the depth is really worrisome.
- 44:14You know, Garrett Cole and Clark Schmidt are probably not coming
- 44:16back till closer to the All Star break after going through the
- 44:19Tommy John and recovery from it. Carlos Rodon had offseason
- 44:24surgery. What was it, bone spurs or
- 44:26something like that? Speedy, Something along those
- 44:29lines to clean up some stuff. So he's going to be out for
- 44:32probably the first month or so as well.
- 44:34So that's three guys that you're expecting in the rotation that
- 44:38you're not seeing right away. Now.
- 44:40Schlittler's banged up, so now you're already going deep into
- 44:44it. Kind of makes you feel like
- 44:46maybe you should have added a little bit more depth this
- 44:49offseason. I don't think the Yankees going
- 44:52into the season are going to worry about their pitching
- 44:54staff. It's going to.
- 44:55It's a long season. It's 162 games as expected and
- 45:00if we had job on the show right now, he'd probably say the same
- 45:02thing. Preseason players are going to
- 45:05go down and all the way into the beginning of the season.
- 45:08I expect by June the Yankees will be 100% healthy.
- 45:11They got to compete early into the season.
- 45:13They might have to, you know, scrap in certain games and put
- 45:17up, you know, a lot of runs because they're pitching staff
- 45:21is not at has doesn't have as much depth as they would have
- 45:25with the talent that they have in the beginning of the season.
- 45:28If Cole was healthy and Rodon was healthy and Schlittler was
- 45:31healthy, I think the Yankees are going to be fine.
- 45:33They added Weathers. Weathers will be put in that
- 45:35rotation right now. And I I think that as we move
- 45:39forward going into spring training, we're going to see
- 45:41what the Yankees have in their farm system.
- 45:43They have two young pitchers that one of them, they think
- 45:45that could be called up at some point this year that they can
- 45:49put in the bullpen before he becomes a starter.
- 45:51And they've got guys like Spencer Jones.
- 45:54We got to see what he could do in spring training.
- 45:56He looked pretty good in spring training last year.
- 45:58He was up and down in AAA last year.
- 46:01They and again, I want to see more of Dominguez.
- 46:04I want to see some of these these guys that have not fully
- 46:07developed with the the Yankees over the last couple of years.
- 46:10I want to see them come out strong early in the season where
- 46:14if the Yankees decide that these guys are going to be the
- 46:16backbone of the team or trade pieces in the long run, they
- 46:20could get a lot out of them. Yeah, you don't want, if you're
- 46:22no matter what scenario for the Yankees, you don't want to have
- 46:24to rush Schwitler back at any cost because yet the Yankees
- 46:28have a enough, I think, between organizational and hybrid
- 46:31starter relievers types to make it work creatively in the
- 46:34beginning of the season until Rodon comes back.
- 46:35You don't want to have to rush Schlittler if he's really not up
- 46:38to it because we've seen the Yankees do this a lot.
- 46:40They when they tried to, when they signed Montes, they traded
- 46:42for Montes. They did the same thing.
- 46:43He pitched one game with the Yankees and then he was hurt the
- 46:45rest of the year. Severino had all those injury
- 46:47issues at the beginning of his career.
- 46:48So you don't want to have to do that kind of thing with a young
- 46:50player. I will say this for the Yankee
- 46:53fans out there throwing Volpe under the bus, I think you got
- 46:58to give Volpe another full season, see how he stays
- 47:00healthy. Maybe he wasn't.
- 47:02Wasn't 100%. They said he had shoulder
- 47:04problems all throughout the season.
- 47:06He did have shoulder surgery in the offseason.
- 47:08Maybe that was the reason why he couldn't throw the ball to 1st
- 47:12and it had problems with his woes defensively.
- 47:15I think he's much better offensively than he's been over
- 47:18the last two years. If he can hit 240 or 250 and
- 47:21give you 25 home runs and about 60 to 70 RBIs as shortstop,
- 47:26you're getting a lot out of the kid.
- 47:27I I still think he is going to be a part of the future of this
- 47:31New York Yankee team, either as a shortstop or a second baseman.
- 47:36I do not believe Jazz Chisholm will be there at the end of this
- 47:39season. Yeah, and that's the other thing
- 47:40too. You bring up the offense and
- 47:41keep the abilities that the Yankees could have when it comes
- 47:44to some of their young players finally breaking out if they can
- 47:46all do it. Not maybe not all at once per
- 47:49SE, but Wells had spurts. Rice had spurts last year.
- 47:52If Volpe could have the spurts like he did at the end of the
- 47:53season when he started to play well, that's enough for they
- 47:56could be able to weather the storm with some of those back
- 47:57end pitchers to make it work. Fish, you mentioned Weathers
- 47:59too. Then you also got Heal and
- 48:01Warren. Like those are enough of capable
- 48:03that still a lot of a lot of teams don't have right now in
- 48:05the American League that they can still at least weather the
- 48:07storm. And watch out for Clark Schmidt.
- 48:09I I think Schmidt looked really, really good, good early last
- 48:12season and then he got hurt and he was out for the rest of the
- 48:15season. This kid has a tremendous amount
- 48:17of pitching, you know, pitch. He could throw curveballs and
- 48:21sliders and he's got a great fastball, 4 seam and two seam
- 48:25fastball. He's got a ton of pitches and,
- 48:27and this guy when he figures things out, I think he could be
- 48:30a very dominant pitcher for the New York Yankees.
- 48:33He has, he has the stuff to be 1/3 starter on this roster
- 48:38really when you look at Schlittler and Cole and even
- 48:41Freed. So I, he's got that kind of
- 48:43talent. I, I think the Yankees going to
- 48:45be fine. I, I do believe the Yankees
- 48:47should have added a little bit more depth into free agency.
- 48:50I think Fish is right about that.
- 48:53But they added Weathers, and Weathers is a guy you could put
- 48:55in the rotation until these guys come back and then you can move
- 48:58them in the bullpen. Yeah, you know, you just, you
- 49:00just worry about them falling behind the 8 ball a little too
- 49:03much in the first month, month and a half of the season before
- 49:06they get some of this step. Back they never do fish.
- 49:08They never do. I know with the.
- 49:09Injuries, they usually start hot, right?
- 49:11They usually start hot. And then it's something more
- 49:13like Midsummer. Yeah, kind of the Aaron Boone
- 49:15swoon over there. They get into a cold spell where
- 49:18they lose 12 out of 15 games and everybody like I thought the
- 49:21Yankees are in trouble. The rotation is not as good as
- 49:24everybody thought they were or the bullpen looks worn out.
- 49:26I it's usually right after the All Star break where the Yankees
- 49:29go on this, this cold spell of like 12 out of 15 games and they
- 49:33look really, really bad. And and then they pick it up
- 49:36maybe because of injury or maybe because they just they thought
- 49:40that they were just going to run away with the division like they
- 49:42did last year. And then the Blue Jays got back
- 49:44into it and then eventually beat the Yankees out and winning the
- 49:47division and winning the American League.
- 49:49So I I'm, again, I'm not worried about the Yankees.
- 49:53I expect the Yankees to win 95 to 96 games this year.
- 49:56They still have a tremendous amount of talent.
- 49:58And I really think it all depends on Aaron Judges health.
- 50:02If Aaron Judge is healthy, they're going to be able to
- 50:04compete. He's that good of a player.
- 50:07He changes everything when it comes to their when it comes to
- 50:11their line up. I think he adds that that power
- 50:13that you need and that offense that you need to win games.
- 50:16You know, a little X Factor for the Yankees offense.
- 50:19You know, he didn't really get much out of him last year.
- 50:21He struck out a lot. But Ryan McMahon has been an All
- 50:24Star in this league, little in the National League when he was
- 50:26with Colorado. Obviously Coors Field aided a
- 50:28little bit, but that guy has got pop and that guy plays excellent
- 50:32as we saw, excellent third base. So if they if they can get him
- 50:36to fix his swing in a little bit, I mean this could be like
- 50:40another Brochus type story with this guy.
- 50:42Probably this. Is that kind of defense?
- 50:44Problem with him is just like Todd Hilton, he played in
- 50:47Colorado and Todd Hilton was good when he left Colorado, but
- 50:51not as good. Everybody knows in Colorado
- 50:54there's you get more pop, There's no, you're elevated.
- 50:58There's more home runs that go out of the stadium.
- 51:01So I, I don't, I'm not saying McMahon can't be good for the
- 51:05Yankees. He's a pretty good defender, but
- 51:07he's a guy that the Yankees have reached on and, and again, the
- 51:10Yankees like making trades with Colorado over the years.
- 51:12If you look at what Brian Cashman likes to do, it's it's
- 51:15usually Colorado and Pittsburgh are the two teams that he likes
- 51:18to trade with. All right, let's talk about the
- 51:21other side of the city and the Mets, who just lost Francisco
- 51:25Lindor for 6:00 or so weeks with a broken ham aid bone.
- 51:29And things happen in threes, Errol, because and within 24
- 51:33hours, Francisco Lindor, Corbin Carroll is star player
- 51:38outfielder for the Diamondbacks and Jackson Holiday, second
- 51:41baseman for the Orioles, all broke their hamate bone, which
- 51:45is I guess happens when you grip the nub of the bat too tight.
- 51:50I don't know. It's just so weird that they
- 51:52have it. Apparently you have to remove it
- 51:55in surgery and it's you have to heal.
- 51:57And it just takes a while to get the power and strength back in
- 52:01your wrist. Not exactly what you want for
- 52:04your star shortstop to start a season.
- 52:06No. And and again, Lindor was going
- 52:09to play in the WBC. I guess he's not playing in the
- 52:11WBC. I know he was looking forward to
- 52:14doing that. And again, the New York Mets,
- 52:17it's 162 games. They're going into a season
- 52:21where they got a, they got to start strong, and they usually
- 52:23do. In the last couple of years, the
- 52:25Mets start up very, very, very strong and then they fall off as
- 52:29the season progressively moves forward.
- 52:31Last year they got very, very hot.
- 52:32I think they won 20 out of their their first like 30 games and
- 52:37they were playing great baseball.
- 52:39And then all of a sudden they got into a cold spell.
- 52:41And Carlo Mendoza, he might be on a hot seat early in the
- 52:44season if if he doesn't start off strong, they could fire
- 52:47Mendoza and and again the Mets have they spent a lot of money
- 52:51in the offseason. Once again, as Cohen, he was
- 52:54reaching, he brought in, you know, Devin and he brought in
- 52:58some pieces and this roster, you know, you, you put a guy that's
- 53:02ever played first base on first base.
- 53:04You put a guy that's never played third base on third base.
- 53:07This team is all scrambled and really it's like a puzzle for
- 53:10the Mets. They're trying to connect the
- 53:12dots and hopefully they connect the right way.
- 53:14I don't know how it's going to work, but I I think they have
- 53:17enough pop in this lineup with some of the additions that they
- 53:20made that if Lindor's out for six to eight weeks, they'll be
- 53:23fine offensively. Yeah, I think they have enough.
- 53:25I think Lindor, it's the same thing I was saying with the
- 53:27Yankees. They just have to make sure that
- 53:29a guy that's been one of their most durable players that we've
- 53:32seen since he's come over here with the mats, you can't have
- 53:35him all of a sudden be an injury tailspin when you have all these
- 53:37other fragile question marks outside, probably outside of
- 53:40semi and like the rest of your team are a lot of fragile
- 53:42question marks in that lineup. Alvarez, obviously Bruschette,
- 53:45who they bring in. A lot of these guys just can't
- 53:48stay healthy. So they cannot make that same
- 53:49kind of mistake with Lindor. Now, obviously the question is
- 53:51all right, if you can't play, who plays shortstop?
- 53:53And that's where the rotation will have to come in.
- 53:54But you have enough time to experiment.
- 53:56The problem with the Mets is they have guys playing out of
- 53:58position. They've never played these
- 54:00positions before in their careers and now you're shifting
- 54:04them now that you're a New York Mets.
- 54:06That is the problem. I don't think it has anything to
- 54:08do with Boba Shett being injury prone or any of these guys.
- 54:11Alvarez. I think what bothers me if I was
- 54:14a Mets fan, is how is this going to work?
- 54:17How is it, especially you're on the diamond and you for the last
- 54:22couple of years, your infield has been not good.
- 54:25And now you have guys like Beau Bichette, who has been a
- 54:28consistent defensively talented shortstop.
- 54:31Now you're moving to third base. Does he have the arm strength to
- 54:33get it to 1st? Is he is it going to be like an
- 54:36Alex Rodriguez? And then you have a guy that has
- 54:39been a second baseman practically his whole career and
- 54:42you're moving him to what first base?
- 54:44He's never played first base. And I I, I first base is one of
- 54:48the hardest positions to play on the field.
- 54:50So I don't know how that's going to work either, even going into
- 54:53the offseason knowing that that's the position you're going
- 54:55to play. So that's the problem.
- 54:57I don't think the Lindor problem is going to be that much of a
- 54:59problem because there's a, it's a long season.
- 55:01Lidor will be back probably around I, I would say May.
- 55:05So it's just to start up a season.
- 55:08You're missing the, you know, spring training and, and, and a
- 55:10quarter of, you know, probably all of April and then you're
- 55:13going to be back. So I don't think that's going to
- 55:15be the problem. The problem with the Mets is the
- 55:17corner, the corner positions, the first and third base
- 55:20position. How is that going to work?
- 55:22Yeah, that's why I'm saying you if even if Lidor is hurt for an
- 55:26excited period of time, at least try to lock into one philosophy.
- 55:29Because again, it's going to be tough to tell if you're going to
- 55:31have enough of a sample to judge if one guy is going to be able
- 55:34to adapt to be comfortable with a different.
- 55:35Position. Don't you think Lindor would be
- 55:37better at third base than Beau Bichette?
- 55:39No, not. Don't move Lindor.
- 55:40No, I would say why? He's a better.
- 55:42He has a better. What I'm saying is, lock into
- 55:44one way of thinking. If Bichette's going to play
- 55:46third, let him play third. Let Polanco play shortstop as a
- 55:49substitute if you need to. Let Simeon play shortstop if you
- 55:52need to lock into one. Philosophy, don't get cute.
- 55:55I think when trying and rotate everyone in short time unless it
- 55:58really doesn't work badly. Well, I think that you put the
- 56:01guy at third base that has the better arm.
- 56:03Lindor has a better arm. I would have shift Lindor if
- 56:06Lindor wanted to move to third base, to third base.
- 56:09If he's the captain of the team and a leader of the team, which
- 56:12everybody says he is, move the guy with the better arm at third
- 56:15base. Keep Beau Bichette in the
- 56:16position that he feels more comfortable on because everybody
- 56:19says that Beau Bichette might not have the arm strength to get
- 56:22that ball to first base as most third baseman's do have that arm
- 56:27strength so. So Simeon is already going to be
- 56:29comfortable enough at 2nd where I think you want to leave him
- 56:32there at some point. That's why I'm saying, look, get
- 56:34the Bachette third base experiment start.
- 56:35You can rotate from shortstop or if you want to try to experiment
- 56:39within the outfield like you like to do and put Louise,
- 56:41Robert and all these other guys elsewhere or Beatty, same kind
- 56:45of thing. If you're going to commit to
- 56:46keeping him, commit to one position.
- 56:47Beatty's a bench guy, he's not a *.
- 56:50Which is which is sucks because he started to come on really
- 56:52well last season and now they're really funneling his position
- 56:56with overloading out too many infielders.
- 56:58Don't you think that's what they're going to do though?
- 57:00Play Beatty and move Bichette to short until he comes back and
- 57:03probably puts Semi in as the leadoff hitter for Lindor.
- 57:06I would imagine that works. They just got to hope Semi and
- 57:09doesn't suck like he sucked the last season and 1/2 and that
- 57:12Bichette can hold up, you know, physically.
- 57:14It's never going to happen. It's not going to happen as much
- 57:16if Bichette can't stay healthy. I think Bichette will also will
- 57:18later in the season start to DH more too if he doesn't have
- 57:21final. Position.
- 57:22I don't think Beau Bichette has the arm strength to get that
- 57:24ball to first base well. I'm more worried about his range
- 57:28at shortstop, like his side to side range.
- 57:30That's why Lindor has to stay at short.
- 57:32No one else is going to be able to get the ball in the hole at
- 57:35the same level even, you know, the arm strength been damned.
- 57:38You know, on something like that, it's more about like, can
- 57:40you get to the ball? That's why they always ripped on
- 57:42Jeter at the end of his career, because he didn't get to the
- 57:44ball. You know it wasn't his arm.
- 57:45Strength. So what I would do is move
- 57:47Simeons, who I think can play shortstop still, he's a great
- 57:50defender. Move him to shortstop, move
- 57:52Bobashette to second base and move Lindor to 3rd.
- 57:55That would make more sense. He has the best arm strength on
- 57:58this team and can could it really take up more room than
- 58:01any. And you need a third baseman
- 58:03that could defend with all that room.
- 58:05So I would have moved Lindor to third base.
- 58:07That would have made more sense. I would have tried to pitch that
- 58:10to Lindor than Beau Bichette. I I just don't agree with it.
- 58:14Don't agree? With it, it's it's definitely a
- 58:15weird one. The only other thing that was I
- 58:17thought we had to talk about is I guess city field, the
- 58:22dimensions, left field is easier to play in right field because
- 58:25they're moving Juan Soto to left field away from right field.
- 58:29Not that they have like a real replacement in right field.
- 58:32It's like Tyrone Taylor or MJ Melendez they got from the
- 58:36Royals. It's just like, I don't really
- 58:40understand that move, but apparently, you know, Juan Soto
- 58:43gets what he wants. He got all the money he wants to
- 58:46play and left. He feels more comfortable with
- 58:48the quote, so he's playing and left.
- 58:50It could be Ronnie Mauricio too and right as well because they
- 58:53also think he could get shortstop reps as well.
- 58:55The only season that I thought that Juan Soto played half
- 58:58decent in the outfield was with the Yankees.
- 59:01He did not look good last year. How many times did he make
- 59:04blooping mistakes out in the outfield?
- 59:06There were games that he made multiple mistakes in one game.
- 59:10I don't think it works. You need to be a really good
- 59:13defender in the open field. There's a lot of field to cover
- 59:16at left field, less in right field.
- 59:19It would have made more sense for him to stay in right field.
- 59:21But again, like you said, fish what Soda wants he gets.
- 59:25All right, so let's move on to some football offseason stuff,
- 59:31starting with the New York Football Giants.
- 59:34Well, we're going to talk about their free agents in a second,
- 59:36but first let's talk about them hiring.
- 59:38You mentioned earlier Brian Callahan to be the quarterbacks
- 59:42coach and pass game coordinator, meaning he's the I guess you
- 59:48call him the Lieutenant to the offensive coordinator, which is
- 59:51Charles Nagy, which makes Greg Roman long time Jim Harbaugh guy
- 59:57way back in the 49ers days, obviously spent some time with
- 1:00:01John and in Baltimore with with Lamar.
- 1:00:05Didn't work out so great, but he's going to run the run game
- 1:00:09aspect of it. So they have three guys with a
- 1:00:13wealth of experience, Errol, which is why some people are
- 1:00:16excited about this move. Others like yourself have
- 1:00:19pointed out. It's a lot of, you know, chiefs,
- 1:00:23maybe you know too many chiefs, not enough Indians.
- 1:00:25It doesn't make any sense. I I like John Harbaugh and I'm
- 1:00:29not saying that John Harbaugh won't be a successful coach with
- 1:00:32the New York Giants. He got paid a lot of money and
- 1:00:34now he's reaching. You bring in Matt Nagy.
- 1:00:37He wasn't a successful head coach with Chicago.
- 1:00:41He went back to Kansas City. He was not even calling the
- 1:00:44plays with Andy Reid. He was really Andy Reid's
- 1:00:46puppet. And Andy Reid said he should go
- 1:00:48to an organization where he has a chance to make the play.
- 1:00:50And now he's going to the Giants where you have Brian Callahan
- 1:00:54and you have Greg Roman as as guys that are going to help you
- 1:00:58make the play calls and and help you out with the throwing game
- 1:01:01and the running game. It doesn't make any sense.
- 1:01:03If you're going to bring in an offensive coordinator, you bring
- 1:01:05in one guy making the play calls.
- 1:01:07And again, this is very jet esque.
- 1:01:09This is what happened with Robert Sala.
- 1:01:11Robert Sala couldn't make a decision on who is offensive
- 1:01:14coordinator was, so he fired one and then brought in two.
- 1:01:17It makes no sense. Yeah, Callahan's like I get play
- 1:01:19calling duties. It just also at the same time,
- 1:01:21how much do you trust a Joe Burrow sample when Joe Burrow
- 1:01:24was already good as a Cincinnati quarterback coach and then he
- 1:01:26goes to Tennessee and can't develop Cam Ward to the same
- 1:01:29extent. Now he's going to get Brian
- 1:01:30Davis. Oddly enough, they're swapping,
- 1:01:32but still, he's not going to be play calling at all.
- 1:01:34Naggy. I don't like it all calling
- 1:01:35plays if they're going to trust him to do that.
- 1:01:37Do you like these moves, Speedy? You're a giant.
- 1:01:39Callahan I'm indifferent on. Roman is fine, but I don't want
- 1:01:42him calling plays either. Matt Naggy.
- 1:01:44If you say Roman is fine, why didn't anybody but The Jets
- 1:01:48interview him? Because he's too old school of
- 1:01:50an offensive coordinator and I can't trust a one month sample
- 1:01:53of him trying to be pass happy at the beginning of the season
- 1:01:55with the Chargers. I don't want Greg Roman calling
- 1:01:57plays, but I am interested in his ability to, you know, scheme
- 1:02:00up some run plays. He was that's what they did with
- 1:02:03Lamar. They've had this like very
- 1:02:05unique offense because they said, oh, Lamar is not going to
- 1:02:07be able coming out of college to run a regular offense.
- 1:02:10So Roman made this kind of non traditional offense.
- 1:02:13Eventually teams caught on to it and they had to let him go.
- 1:02:15It didn't work. You know it after a while and
- 1:02:18that's the end of NFL you got. You got to keep adapting.
- 1:02:21But Roman knows the run game. I'm excited about that, but
- 1:02:24potentially with Scatabo coming back, there's too many.
- 1:02:27There's too many voices that are going to be in that offensive
- 1:02:30side of a room. Where there's going to, I have a
- 1:02:33feeling there's going to be backlash.
- 1:02:35There's going to be some kind of backlash with all three of these
- 1:02:38guys. I don't think it's going to
- 1:02:39work. So he was with the Lions, with
- 1:02:43Stafford, he was with Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow in Denver,
- 1:02:48Callahan. He was with Derek Carr in that
- 1:02:52good Raiders season they had before he broke his leg I
- 1:02:54believe. And he was the OC for Zach
- 1:02:59Taylor with Burrow, like you said, for four years before
- 1:03:01becoming the Titans head coach. Car samples, the one out of them
- 1:03:04encouraged the most about because he's not like previous
- 1:03:06elite somewhere else. Yeah, So look, we'll see how it
- 1:03:09goes. The Giants have some free agents
- 1:03:12and not a lot of money. Nope.
- 1:03:13Looks like Wandale Robinson's going to cash in on his big, you
- 1:03:17know, at least target share. Once neighbors went down this
- 1:03:20year, he got over 1000 yards. Someone's going to pay.
- 1:03:22Him. And don't be surprised if it's
- 1:03:24the other team at the Meadowlands, the New York Jets,
- 1:03:27because I, I could see The Jets, they're looking for another wide
- 1:03:30receiver to put on the other side of Garrett Wilson.
- 1:03:32Then you know, the weapon, weapon.
- 1:03:34And a guy like Wendell Robinson, you can move him in the slot.
- 1:03:38You could do a lot of things with him.
- 1:03:39So I wouldn't be surprised if it's like the New York Jets
- 1:03:42making that move and bring in Wandell Robertson as the other
- 1:03:45guy. Yeah, then you got Jermaine
- 1:03:47Aluminor and Cordell Flott. Both had good seasons.
- 1:03:50Cornerback Flot is probably the best corner on the Giants, but
- 1:03:53that's more by default than by. He had a great season.
- 1:03:57He just was competent out there, which was a high bar to to
- 1:04:00match. I think for anybody else on the
- 1:04:03roster. Illuminor was pretty good right
- 1:04:05tackle. He's going to get paid.
- 1:04:07The Giants don't have money to pay him.
- 1:04:08They can't. They can't give him like a
- 1:04:10double his salary. That's why I think the Giants
- 1:04:12three guys, that's why I think the Giants at #5 as much as
- 1:04:15everybody thinks they need a wide receiver, I go offensive
- 1:04:17tackle, yeah. They're going to look at a
- 1:04:19couple of those guys and we'll profile a lot of them as we get
- 1:04:22closer to the draft. The Jets, Well, how do you like
- 1:04:26Kyler Murray, Errol? Because I'm seeing heavily
- 1:04:31rumored to The Jets Kyler Murray right now.
- 1:04:36This looks like he may be your bridge quarterback.
- 1:04:38He he would be a bridge quarterback in a Frank Wright
- 1:04:41offense. I could see it working.
- 1:04:43It's only going to be this year and probably half of next year.
- 1:04:47They're going to draft the quarterback.
- 1:04:48The not this coming draft, but the next coming draft.
- 1:04:52I Kyla Murray is an interesting person.
- 1:04:55He's selfish, but a guy that has the ability to do a lot of
- 1:04:58things that you want a quarterback to do.
- 1:05:00He's in he's great outside of the pocket and making throws.
- 1:05:03And like I said, Frank Wright is going to need those type of guys
- 1:05:06that are going to be able to make throws on the run.
- 1:05:08That's his style of offense. When he was successful in
- 1:05:11Indianapolis with Carson Wentz and I thought that Carlson Wentz
- 1:05:16was better when he was outside of the pocket and making throws
- 1:05:19on the outside of the pocket. I, I, I, Kyler Murray still has
- 1:05:22the ability to be a good quarterback in this league.
- 1:05:25It just it didn't work very well over there in Arizona.
- 1:05:29Maybe with a new roster and a new team and a bunch of fans
- 1:05:34screaming his name and hopefully him not screaming in a third
- 1:05:37person in front of the media and embarrassing himself, it might
- 1:05:40work out for a couple of years with the New York Jets.
- 1:05:42It's it's interesting because yeah, we liked him speedy.
- 1:05:46The off field, the off field stuff is definitely something
- 1:05:48that maybe you don't want to bring to a young roster.
- 1:05:50But I do agree with you on the Reich aspect.
- 1:05:51If you could get the efficiency mark that you got with the
- 1:05:55Carson Wentz with the Colts in 2021 and in the with the Eagles
- 1:05:59the first half of his rookie season, his second-half wasn't
- 1:06:02great. Then he started to play a lot of
- 1:06:03hero ball. But if you can get a combination
- 1:06:05of that, maybe you can have it. I'm not going to say great
- 1:06:07offense, but at least enough of a competent passing offense with
- 1:06:09him. The leadership, obviously all
- 1:06:11field stuff. He's known for using his legs
- 1:06:13outside of the pocket. The Jets like running the ball
- 1:06:16and if, And I think that would make Breece Hall a little bit
- 1:06:18more happier if they franchise him and want to bring him back
- 1:06:21to have a quarterback that he believes is more competent than
- 1:06:25any of the quarterbacks The Jets have had over the last couple of
- 1:06:28years. And remember, Kyla Murray a
- 1:06:29couple of years ago was not bad when it came to statistics,
- 1:06:33especially in fantasy. The guy has a tremendous ability
- 1:06:36of getting out of the pocket and making throws and he is pretty
- 1:06:39accurate. I just his problem is is really
- 1:06:42speaking to the media. I don't know if New York is the
- 1:06:43place for him to come when he does the most dumbest things
- 1:06:48when it comes to speaking and and saying things that kind of
- 1:06:51turn you off as a player that he is.
- 1:06:53So I I think he's got a tremendous amount of talent.
- 1:06:56He's still fairly young. He's 28 years old, 29 years old.
- 1:06:59He still might have a lot of football left and but I coming
- 1:07:03to New York, I don't know if it makes sense.
- 1:07:04We'll see. So one more New York team to
- 1:07:06talk about. Western New York when I went to
- 1:07:08college, Buffalo, the the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:07:12They are being rumored to be trying to pry former Joe Brady
- 1:07:19receiver from LSU Justin Jefferson away from the Vikings.
- 1:07:24Not going to happen. Now Jefferson is saying he's not
- 1:07:27asking for a trade or anything like that, and the Vikings
- 1:07:30obviously not publicly stating it, but if the Bills offer
- 1:07:33enough because they certainly need a number one receiver, they
- 1:07:37may have to think about it. It's not going to happen.
- 1:07:39JJ McCarthy is. Quarter, they have nothing.
- 1:07:41Are they, are they willing to give up two or maybe even three
- 1:07:44first round draft picks to get a Justin Jefferson and 2nd 2 back
- 1:07:47three first 100%? On his salary.
- 1:07:50Justin Jefferson right now. Last year he had a bad season
- 1:07:53because he had nobody throwing the ball.
- 1:07:55This guy is the best wide receiver in the NFL hands down.
- 1:07:58If he has the right guy throwing the ball, he's going to put up
- 1:08:001500 yards. There is no way they they don't
- 1:08:04get OK, let's say 2 first round draft picks and maybe a second
- 1:08:09and a third. They're going to have to give up
- 1:08:10a significant amount for Justin Jefferson.
- 1:08:14I think this is a combination of two things, one of which is
- 1:08:17Brandon Bean. He knows that McDermott got
- 1:08:19fired. He was kind of lucky to keep his
- 1:08:20job. For whatever reason.
- 1:08:22He knows he has to make a big swing.
- 1:08:23And then Minnesota's got a new GM.
- 1:08:24Maybe you pick on him. Maybe you think all right.
- 1:08:26Maybe. What would it take to get?
- 1:08:28I would, again, I think it would be two first round picks, but I
- 1:08:30think Brandon Bean is going to try to manipulate as new GM in
- 1:08:33order to get him for less. Now the the tough situation with
- 1:08:35Buffalo is they they still have to do a lot to make the cap
- 1:08:38space work with Justin Jefferson.
- 1:08:40There's the scenario I brought up to you Fish was they have to
- 1:08:43restructure 3 contracts and get rid of four players and Even so
- 1:08:45that's only 25,000,000 in cap space.
- 1:08:47Jefferson's making 37 a year. So can they rearrange it enough
- 1:08:51to make it work? Will be another question.
- 1:08:52Or include a player in the deal that Minnesota could want.
- 1:08:55I would imagine they asked they they tell Jefferson, we're going
- 1:08:57to restructure, we'll give you all signing bonus and the cap
- 1:09:00numbers comes down for years one and that's what they would do.
- 1:09:03Rousseau can be restructured. He's he's probably their best D
- 1:09:06lineman since Oliver keeps getting hurt.
- 1:09:09He's a really good player. It's not going to happen.
- 1:09:11You. I don't.
- 1:09:12I don't see Minnesota doing that.
- 1:09:14I can't. All right, let's let's wrap up
- 1:09:16the carousel. Errol, just quickly talk about
- 1:09:18some college hoops. We're not going to get into too
- 1:09:20much. Let's just kind of stay in
- 1:09:21local. There was a big game last week
- 1:09:23between UConn and Saint John. St.
- 1:09:25John's upset UConn. UConn had won something like 18
- 1:09:28or 19 in a row. You got still in the top five.
- 1:09:32But Saint John's, you know, they had, you know, Luis Junior, the
- 1:09:35famous flame out last year in the tournament.
- 1:09:38They weren't really expected as much this year to be at the top.
- 1:09:41And now they may end up back there, maybe make more impact,
- 1:09:45more as a middle seed than a top seed.
- 1:09:47Everybody knows I like my I like Pitino and I like Danny Hurley.
- 1:09:51I think they're both competent, great coaches in in the country.
- 1:09:56I would love to see these guys play against one another in the
- 1:09:59tournament in March Madness. That's something that you would
- 1:10:02love to see being that both guys are, you know, Big East guys and
- 1:10:07guys that really stand for something.
- 1:10:09And Pitino, who was a New York guy and so is Danny, Danny
- 1:10:13Hurley is a New Jersey guy. This is something that you like
- 1:10:15to see. I look at both guys, both teams
- 1:10:17right now, UConn is one of the best teams in the country, even
- 1:10:21though losing against Saint John's.
- 1:10:22Saint John's is one of the oldest teams in the country.
- 1:10:25And, and we expected that. We, we expected Pitino to to
- 1:10:29bring in older guys that can run his offense and run his defense.
- 1:10:32I think this is going to be, I think both teams are going to be
- 1:10:35high profile teams going into March Madness.
- 1:10:38And I, I think Danny Hurley could get this team in the Final
- 1:10:41Four. And I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:10:43Saint John's somehow gets in the Elite Eight, maybe in the Final
- 1:10:46Four as well. It's enticing with the Saint
- 1:10:48John's team because much more efficient offensively, more deep
- 1:10:51offensively than they were last year or still with.
- 1:10:53I wouldn't say as good of defense they had last year, but
- 1:10:55still good enough to definitely make a good run.
- 1:10:57Yukon is interesting because their offensive efficiency for a
- 1:11:00top five team is not as high as you want to see usually, but I
- 1:11:03think this is the perfect time to try to get it into shape.
- 1:11:05I always say like you can't really streak into a tournament
- 1:11:08and be expected to last either. They need to lose at some point.
- 1:11:10I brought up to you fish in the in the reading that they hadn't
- 1:11:13lost since November when they played Arizona, who just got
- 1:11:15their first loss of the season to Kansas.
- 1:11:16Like that was a good stretch they're on.
- 1:11:18But this is I think it was a good loss for them to refocus.
- 1:11:20Danny Hurley is a. Fundamental loss means nothing.
- 1:11:22The regular season means nothing.
- 1:11:24Both teams are going to the tournament and I and both teams
- 1:11:28are quite capable of winning the whole thing.
- 1:11:31So I it's great. It's great for Big East
- 1:11:33basketball. You want to see UConn, UConn at
- 1:11:36the top level and you want to see Saint John's at the top
- 1:11:39level and two of the best coaches in the country.
- 1:11:41You love it, you love the competition and I'm looking
- 1:11:43forward to March Madness. Rick Pitino the the next game
- 1:11:47they had he beat his son Richard Pitino and Xavier to get sole
- 1:11:51possession of third all time in college basketball Division One
- 1:11:56wins, passing Roy Williams from UNC in Kansas.
- 1:11:59Roy friggin Williams. I couldn't stand him in North
- 1:12:02Carolina, by the way. Anyways, here we go.
- 1:12:05My deuce of the day. The deuce of the day.
- 1:12:09You log. Not a log.
- 1:12:10I don't have a log. But you know, Danny Ainge,
- 1:12:20ladies and gentlemen, there's a lot of questions on Danny
- 1:12:25Ainge's madness. It is got a tremendous amount of
- 1:12:28madness. But guess what?
- 1:12:30He makes a trade recently, over a week ago and he adds a guy
- 1:12:34like Jaron Jackson Junior. And now all of a sudden, Jaron
- 1:12:37Jackson Junior is out for the season with a knee injury.
- 1:12:41And everybody's questioning why. What was the man?
- 1:12:43Why did he make this move? And I believe he made this move
- 1:12:47because he knew that Jaron Jackson was going to be out for
- 1:12:49the season. They were going to choke for the
- 1:12:51rest of the year to try to get a high draft pick, a top ten pick
- 1:12:55where they can possibly get one of these lottery picks.
- 1:12:58Maybe they get lucky, they get into the top three and get even
- 1:13:01Cam Boozer, a BYU kid, or even Kansas or whatever.
- 1:13:04I I think this was a reason why he's rebuilding.
- 1:13:08Danny Ainge is one of the smartest, not dumbest GM's and
- 1:13:12executives and all the basketball.
- 1:13:14He has screwed everybody over the years when he was running
- 1:13:17the Celtics and he won championships over there and now
- 1:13:21he's screwing again as an executive with the Utah Jazz.
- 1:13:24Don't be surprised in the next three or four years Danny Ainge
- 1:13:28in the Utah Jazz are a contention competitive
- 1:13:32championship team because Danny Ainge knows how to spin the
- 1:13:36wheel and steal from everybody else.
