- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up, everybody?
- 0:07Speaker 3: Welcome to move the sticks on a Monday, DJ Buck
- 0:10Speaker 3: and Baldy.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Baldy. First of all, where the heck were you yesterday?
- 0:14Speaker 4: I was in the jungle Cincinnati, Uh, watching Detroit just
- 0:19Speaker 4: just roll the way they have been rolling. And then
- 0:22Speaker 4: just watching, you know, horrible quarterback play from Jake Browning
- 0:26Speaker 4: to the point where I mean me and you and
- 0:28Speaker 4: Bucky we could sit here and we could draw plays
- 0:30Speaker 4: to get you know, tomorrow Chase. The ball didn't happen
- 0:33Speaker 4: to really the fourth quarter. It's just amazing. It was
- 0:35Speaker 4: just one of those games you better have some material
- 0:37Speaker 4: to fill because it was. It was really ugly till
- 0:40Speaker 4: the end.
- 0:40Speaker 3: That's a rough one, Buck, you have a big one tonight.
- 0:43Speaker 3: That's where you're joining us remotely. You've got the chefs,
- 0:45Speaker 3: it's the Jags welcoming in the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So you got a big one tonight, buddy, Yeah, big one.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Excited the buzz around the city. You can feel there's
- 0:53Speaker 1: a lot of excitement. Cheese fans come in droves, and
- 0:56Speaker 1: so the last time the Jacks had like one of
- 0:59Speaker 1: these premier games. It didn't go well because Jake Browning
- 1:02Speaker 1: and Cincinnati Bengals tore them up two years ago on
- 1:05Speaker 1: a Monday night.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So this is the chance for them to acquit themselves
- 1:08Speaker 2: a little better when the war has opportunity to see him. Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to watching that game. Man.
- 1:13Speaker 3: We're gonna rip through some of these games here and
- 1:15Speaker 3: hit it from some different angles. Let's start first of all,
- 1:17Speaker 3: Sunday night, or how about this for a little upset
- 1:20Speaker 3: special New England Buffalo Patriots going to Buffalo win twenty
- 1:23Speaker 3: three to twenty ball.
- 1:24Speaker 2: They we'll just see.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Well, the very first play of the game, Drake May
- 1:27Speaker 4: you know, throws it to Stefan Diggs and you know
- 1:30Speaker 4: he gets the first down, and then they just kept
- 1:32Speaker 4: feeding them. He looked as good as he's looked in
- 1:35Speaker 4: I don't know, two or three years. But they just
- 1:37Speaker 4: do a good job of balancing it up. Will Campbell's
- 1:39Speaker 4: a really good layer. Had a good game against Joey
- 1:42Speaker 4: Bosa and Epanessa out there. They run it with three backs,
- 1:46Speaker 4: they run it with Stevenson, they run it with you know, Henderson,
- 1:51Speaker 4: they run it with Gibson.
- 1:52Speaker 5: They throw it to the they really used their backs.
- 1:55Speaker 4: And you know, Drake May made a couple of plays
- 1:58Speaker 4: in that game that kind of reminds you of Josh Allen,
- 2:01Speaker 4: including you know, as he's going to the ground, you know,
- 2:04Speaker 4: and he gets the ball out to Digs, you know,
- 2:06Speaker 4: that final drive to get the game winning field goal.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Drake May stands tall in the pocket, he's he's he's
- 2:12Speaker 4: mobile without looking to to always run and take off,
- 2:15Speaker 4: you know, with some of these guys are in his league.
- 2:17Speaker 4: He looks like a real general out there. But that
- 2:20Speaker 4: that was impressive.
- 2:21Speaker 5: That was impressive offensively, how they balance things up and uh,
- 2:25Speaker 5: you know, move the ball when they had to. But
- 2:26Speaker 5: I thought Digs, I thought Diggs was really strong.
- 2:29Speaker 4: And then Hunter Henry keeps finding you know, I don't
- 2:31Speaker 4: know how many years Hunter has been in this league,
- 2:33Speaker 4: but he finds those spaces in the middle of the
- 2:35Speaker 4: field for the jump balls.
- 2:37Speaker 5: But he could still go get it, you know, with
- 2:39Speaker 5: the best of them.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Right now, you know what's interesting about this. I love
- 2:43Speaker 1: all the stuff that you had to say about the
- 2:44Speaker 1: Tario Drake May. I just I just wish I could
- 2:47Speaker 1: just just put that in a little bottle and just
- 2:49Speaker 1: keep that when I just wax and.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Pull in and see your schools allowed to actually post
- 2:54Speaker 3: about that.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I'm focused about the league right now.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'm not worried about THEE but I will say this,
- 3:02Speaker 1: Drake May is another example I think of kind of
- 3:06Speaker 1: what we learned from Josh Allen because this college tape
- 3:09Speaker 1: wasn't perfect, but it was more the projection of what
- 3:11Speaker 1: he could be. But a lot of that projection should
- 3:14Speaker 1: have been based on the person. And I think what
- 3:17Speaker 1: you're seeing is the person, the leader, the connector comes out.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Going back to last week when he and Charlotte paid
- 3:25Speaker 1: Cam Newton a shout out when he scored, like he
- 3:27Speaker 1: has some swag to him that a lot of people
- 3:30Speaker 1: don't know, and I think that came to the forefront.
- 3:33Speaker 1: But to me, when I talk about the Patriots, this
- 3:35Speaker 1: is a Mike Rapel game.
- 3:37Speaker 2: This is the classic.
- 3:38Speaker 1: We go ugly, the game up, We'll do whatever we
- 3:41Speaker 1: need to do to get out of there with the win,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and the Bills played into their hands because the self
- 3:46Speaker 1: inflicted mistakes.
- 3:48Speaker 2: It's ugly ball.
- 3:49Speaker 1: When you played the Patriots with Mike Rabel and if
- 3:52Speaker 1: you're not on your a game, they'll snatched it in
- 3:54Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, much.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Like they did on Sunday Night.
- 3:56Speaker 5: That's true, Bucky. But for the first time in literally
- 3:59Speaker 5: five years, the Patriots actually have real personnel. They have
- 4:04Speaker 5: real running backs, they have real receivers, a tight end,
- 4:07Speaker 5: a quarterback that actually can deliver. It's been a long time.
- 4:10Speaker 4: It's been a long draft, going back to Belichick's last
- 4:13Speaker 4: two years. Before they could put a team around a
- 4:15Speaker 4: quarterback and a quarterback and actually drive the field and
- 4:19Speaker 4: look like, you know, a real NFL team.
- 4:21Speaker 2: That was impressive.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Man.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I went back through all Drake's stuff, and you know
- 4:25Speaker 3: the stuff that was on time. He was on time, back,
- 4:27Speaker 3: foot ball gone. Then he went through a little bit
- 4:29Speaker 3: of an uneasy phase in this game, and then they
- 4:31Speaker 3: kind of got it back rolling again. He's under center
- 4:33Speaker 3: a lot, which I love watching a bunch of stuff
- 4:36Speaker 3: this week. There's a bunch of teams that seemed like
- 4:37Speaker 3: they're getting under center a little bit more, which was
- 4:39Speaker 3: good to see. They moved the pocket with him, knowing
- 4:42Speaker 3: they're gonna have to deal with some of the pass
- 4:43Speaker 3: rush stuff. The hunter, Henry, he had two grabs between
- 4:46Speaker 3: four guys. So you want to talk about finding space
- 4:49Speaker 3: like that, I don't know. He just finds that little
- 4:51Speaker 3: void and those are not easy throws. So I thought
- 4:54Speaker 3: young quarterbacks sometimes you get the live arm guys. But
- 4:56Speaker 3: there were some touch throws, some up and down throws
- 4:58Speaker 3: that he made that were big time impressive in that game.
- 5:02Speaker 3: The scramble stuff with digs, they were on the same
- 5:04Speaker 3: page with all that.
- 5:05Speaker 4: When you get to the scramble drill, Like, there's a
- 5:07Speaker 4: couple guys in this league that when they see the
- 5:10Speaker 4: quarterback in trouble, they.
- 5:12Speaker 5: Won the ball more than anybody on the field.
- 5:14Speaker 4: It's just like a separate skill Like I saw Jamar
- 5:17Speaker 4: Chase yesterday digs. There's a few guys then when that
- 5:21Speaker 4: quarterback's in trouble they're getting nobody else getting They're getting
- 5:24Speaker 4: the ball.
- 5:24Speaker 5: They're gonna find it.
- 5:25Speaker 4: And I thought, you know, the big scramble to Digs
- 5:28Speaker 4: for thirty like that was a huge play. He got
- 5:31Speaker 4: his feet down and Drake, you know, was able to
- 5:33Speaker 4: get it out. But I mean, there's just certain guys
- 5:35Speaker 4: in this league. They want to get into the vision
- 5:38Speaker 4: of the quarterback.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah, the worst thing you can do from a quarterback
- 5:41Speaker 3: standpoint is just be static, like I'm moving. You need
- 5:43Speaker 3: to be moving, And there's all the scrambled rules. Everybody
- 5:46Speaker 3: knows about those, but there's I'm telling you that's not universal.
- 5:48Speaker 3: When you watch some of these games, these guys, some
- 5:50Speaker 3: of these scrambles, the receivers have no idea what to do.
- 5:53Speaker 2: They give no, they don't give a picture at all.
- 5:54Speaker 3: To the quarterback that digs digs recognition and then a
- 5:58Speaker 3: board and was in mediate like that was he immediately.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Did a little you know, and it's like I'm gonna
- 6:06Speaker 5: go get to the sideline here.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yep, it was. That was big time.
- 6:09Speaker 3: One of my takeaways from the week overall, just going
- 6:11Speaker 3: through all this stuff was you can tell the teams
- 6:14Speaker 3: that are good on that stuff on the scrambled. The
- 6:16Speaker 3: other thing, the biggest takeaway for me for the whole week,
- 6:18Speaker 3: as we go through these games, you can tell the
- 6:20Speaker 3: teams that have a plan for pressure and those that don't.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It's coming.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Everybody's gonna get heated up in this league because we've
- 6:26Speaker 3: got exotic looks. We've got a defensive line talent advantage
- 6:30Speaker 3: over an offensive line talent in this league. So you
- 6:33Speaker 3: better have a plan and it better be you know,
- 6:35Speaker 3: it better be crisp, and you better be on your
- 6:37Speaker 3: your dotting your eyes and crossing your teeth. Some teams
- 6:40Speaker 3: they get blitzed. It's like a surprise party and they
- 6:42Speaker 3: have no idea how to handle it. But the scrambled
- 6:45Speaker 3: drill and having a plan there I thought was pretty interesting.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I thought in that game too, you know, the Patriots
- 6:50Speaker 4: now have a true eye formation with the kid. I
- 6:53Speaker 4: think it's Jack west over number thirty seven. You know,
- 6:56Speaker 4: he was a lead blocker in some place, but they
- 6:58Speaker 4: run that scissors play where he goes one way and
- 7:00Speaker 4: then the back goes the other, and they scored a
- 7:02Speaker 4: touchdown on it, and he came back to it like
- 7:04Speaker 4: three times in the game, and it got you know,
- 7:07Speaker 4: those linebackers are reading the.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Fullback and they just start flowing.
- 7:10Speaker 4: I mean, it just clears things out to the point
- 7:12Speaker 4: where that last touchdown they scored. Honestly, Hunter Henry had
- 7:15Speaker 4: nobody to block. Everybody went with the fullback. You know,
- 7:18Speaker 4: it's classic Josh McDaniels and two back offense.
- 7:22Speaker 5: And you know, and the Rabel's gonna subscribe to that.
- 7:25Speaker 1: You know the thing about Stephan Diggs coming over and
- 7:28Speaker 1: it's what we saw with him kind of accelerating development
- 7:31Speaker 1: of Josh Allen there's something to be said for having
- 7:34Speaker 1: that veteran receiver that.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Is reliable, dependable, trustworthy.
- 7:38Speaker 1: In the passing game where they got nos, I always
- 7:40Speaker 1: can find the completion if I go to him. And
- 7:43Speaker 1: I thought Stephan Digg's comments after the game where he
- 7:47Speaker 1: really was giving Drake May his flowers because the comparisons
- 7:50Speaker 1: were coming Josh Allen Drake Man.
- 7:51Speaker 2: He was like, hey, like, there's some of that stuff obviously, but.
- 7:55Speaker 1: You want to make sure that Drake May is Drake
- 7:57Speaker 1: May because he has his own special qualities they want
- 7:59Speaker 1: to knowledge. I just feel like just the maturity that
- 8:03Speaker 1: he showed there and whatever he shows in the building,
- 8:05Speaker 1: there's some kind of synergy and connection that he makes
- 8:07Speaker 1: with young quarterbacks that helps them kind of grow. It
- 8:12Speaker 1: may only be a two or three year window, but
- 8:14Speaker 1: it certainly has proven true first with.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Josh Allen, and now it looks like with Drake Matt
- 8:18Speaker 3: I did no doubt. And this is again think about
- 8:20Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels. It's impressive what he's done there. He looks
- 8:23Speaker 3: like vintage Josh McDaniels with how he's with how he's
- 8:27Speaker 3: dialing up all right, all right, Denver Philly Bluck wantn't
- 8:30Speaker 3: you jump first on this one?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Okay, So there's a saying that the squeaky wheel gets
- 8:34Speaker 1: to grease, but sometimes you need to resist giving the
- 8:37Speaker 1: wheel to grease. Because the Philadelphia Eagles in that game,
- 8:41Speaker 1: that was an appease AJ Brown and Devonti Smith game.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And look for a team that has been a successful
- 8:47Speaker 2: they been.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I'm watching the game and being like, why are they
- 8:50Speaker 1: throwing the ball so much? This is not who they are.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And so the thing about it when you appease players.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Because players are just like your kids.
- 8:59Speaker 1: After the game they lose, they still a bitching belly
- 9:02Speaker 1: achebeut not winning, so you can't please them.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I just want to see the Eagles play like the Eagles.
- 9:07Speaker 1: They need to run the football, they need to pass
- 9:09Speaker 1: as a compliment and really stick to the formula that
- 9:13Speaker 1: has really helped him be a dominant team. The AJ
- 9:16Speaker 1: Brown stuff and Devonte Smith' stuff is more to distraction
- 9:19Speaker 1: and all it would do it take him down a
- 9:21Speaker 1: wayward path.
- 9:22Speaker 2: They would not end up in a Super Bowl appearance.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Well to that point, sat one had one carry in
- 9:27Speaker 4: the fourth quarter when they couldn't drive together. One carry
- 9:30Speaker 4: in the fourth courter. This guy ran me. You know,
- 9:32Speaker 4: he broke records last year, one carrying the fourth quarter.
- 9:36Speaker 4: So I mean that's to your point, Bucky, like they're
- 9:38Speaker 4: they're doing what exactly what you said and then nothing.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I mean, DJ, you have spoken to this at times.
- 9:46Speaker 4: But nothing is on time in that offense, nothing like
- 9:49Speaker 4: there is no there is no time. It's actually alarming
- 9:53Speaker 4: when you watch, especially if you're just watching this and
- 9:57Speaker 4: all these other games and you're seeing Baker and you
- 10:00Speaker 4: know all these guys, you know Drake and throw these
- 10:01Speaker 4: things on like there's nothing on time. And as an
- 10:05Speaker 4: offensive lineman, nothing. I played with Rynald Cunningham. I loved Randall,
- 10:09Speaker 4: but that Randall only threw the ball when the receiver.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Was looking at him. There was no anticipation there was,
- 10:15Speaker 5: and it wasn't anaka random.
- 10:17Speaker 4: He had a great arm and when he threw it
- 10:19Speaker 4: he whistled it.
- 10:21Speaker 5: But it reminds me a little bit of that. And
- 10:23Speaker 5: as an offensive line you're like.
- 10:24Speaker 4: How long are we supposed to hold these blocks against
- 10:26Speaker 4: Nick Benito, you know, against Zach Allen, and that's you know,
- 10:30Speaker 4: they're getting sacks because they're holding the ball for six
- 10:33Speaker 4: seven seconds.
- 10:34Speaker 5: It's it's ridiculous.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I looked at Benito's sacks.
- 10:37Speaker 3: The first one, I just wrote coverage sack, like that's
- 10:39Speaker 3: just kind of a garbage coverage sack. The second one,
- 10:42Speaker 3: I mean they were the communication with both was not
- 10:44Speaker 3: good on a little game that they ran, so he
- 10:46Speaker 3: got he got kind of crossed up there. And then
- 10:48Speaker 3: the last one was kind of a slow loss to
- 10:50Speaker 3: my lotta uh where. I mean, he powered him, but
- 10:53Speaker 3: it was not a quick win. And as an offensive
- 10:55Speaker 3: lineman in the league ball, you know, it just don't
- 10:56Speaker 3: lose quick. They didn't lose quick like, they kind of
- 10:59Speaker 3: lost slow, but eventually you run out of time. So
- 11:03Speaker 3: that was the kind of Benito thing that six sacks
- 11:05Speaker 3: overall as a group, I wanted to go quickly buck
- 11:09Speaker 3: to the other side. Cortland Sutton had eight for ninety
- 11:13Speaker 3: nine in this game. I looked up the numbers. He's
- 11:15Speaker 3: on pace for twelve hundred and forty one yards and
- 11:17Speaker 3: ten touchdowns. Had a thousand yards last year, And I
- 11:20Speaker 3: was talking to text with you guys like he might
- 11:22Speaker 3: be one of the most underrated receivers. He's been game
- 11:24Speaker 3: with that long time. Yeah, Mitchell was with him a bunch.
- 11:28Speaker 3: There's a couple of times when he's in the slot
- 11:30Speaker 3: where he just kind of posts up in the zone.
- 11:31Speaker 3: But there was a lot of wins down the field. Actually,
- 11:34Speaker 3: one of the first target he got to go ball
- 11:36Speaker 3: down the side and he dropped where he got on
- 11:38Speaker 3: top of Quinnon immediately and didn't haul it in. But
- 11:42Speaker 3: he's physical at the top, working back. They killed him
- 11:45Speaker 3: with back shoulders even like some deep curl stuff. Like
- 11:48Speaker 3: to me, for a bigger guy, he gets back down
- 11:50Speaker 3: the stem pretty good. Like he's pretty efficient in his
- 11:53Speaker 3: movement and doing that stuff. And I buck I wrote
- 11:55Speaker 3: down on my notes, kind of gave me just watching him,
- 11:57Speaker 3: and I think we might even have made this compheny
- 11:59Speaker 3: he was coming out.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Gave me like some Brandon Marshall vibes.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Yeah, And I would say this, he's become a more
- 12:04Speaker 1: physical player in the league than he was when he
- 12:06Speaker 1: was coming out, because remember he was a big player,
- 12:09Speaker 1: but he kind of was. He had a big body,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but he played real finesse in his approach. He's become
- 12:14Speaker 1: a more physical player on the perimeter and using his
- 12:16Speaker 1: size to post uff and do that same observation that
- 12:20Speaker 1: you had. Man, he was giving Quinna Mitchell, who is
- 12:23Speaker 1: one of the emerging top corners in the league. He
- 12:25Speaker 1: was giving them the business very very early, and it
- 12:28Speaker 1: was part of a plan. And this why we talked
- 12:31Speaker 1: about coaching. But man, there's just a thing when you
- 12:34Speaker 1: have great coaches, guys that are schemers and tacticians and
- 12:38Speaker 1: understand that was a Sean Payton Advanced Joseph game like
- 12:42Speaker 1: they were on their game against the Eagles. The way
- 12:45Speaker 1: Sean Payton controlled the game, the way that he kind
- 12:49Speaker 1: of forced the issue when they went for two and
- 12:52Speaker 1: I was like, whoa, what is this. He's like, I'm
- 12:54Speaker 1: gonna control fate. I'm gonna make them react to us,
- 12:57Speaker 1: just all of it. And then the way that they
- 12:59Speaker 1: just the temple of the game. It was a Broncos
- 13:02Speaker 1: game from the start. Even though they were behind, it
- 13:05Speaker 1: still felt like the Broncos kind of had the game
- 13:08Speaker 1: on their terms. Look a credit to everything. Their first
- 13:11Speaker 1: nail is solid, but really shot paid and Van shows
- 13:14Speaker 1: they both do a masterful job of using the talent
- 13:17Speaker 1: and the tactics to put the game in their favor.
- 13:20Speaker 4: And the other thing was that was a short week.
- 13:22Speaker 4: They played Monday night and travel like all those all
- 13:25Speaker 4: those factors that some people might be using as some
- 13:28Speaker 4: kind of an excuse if they don't play well and
- 13:30Speaker 4: they got off to a sluggish start. You know, but man,
- 13:34Speaker 4: they that defense is just what they do. It's it's
- 13:38Speaker 4: really They play so many coverages behind that front right now,
- 13:42Speaker 4: and they have five different guys that can win on
- 13:45Speaker 4: one on one. I thought Lane Johnson just shut out
- 13:47Speaker 4: Cooper over on one side, But I thought the other guys,
- 13:50Speaker 4: you know, really handled things pretty good upfront, and you know,
- 13:54Speaker 4: to just to see the Eagles just completely get away
- 13:57Speaker 4: from who they are your point, Bucky, like, that's that's
- 14:01Speaker 4: pretty that's pretty shocking.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Actually, no question they had a chance to put that
- 14:06Speaker 3: game away and didn't do it. All right, let's get
- 14:08Speaker 3: to the game of the day, Tampa Bay Seattle. These
- 14:10Speaker 3: are two of the better teams in the league, both
- 14:12Speaker 3: playing at a very high level, aided by quarterbacks and
- 14:15Speaker 3: receiver combinations that have been electric. I mean, you think
- 14:19Speaker 3: about the connection with Sam and Baker teammates together for
- 14:21Speaker 3: the Carolina Panthers. That's insane when you think about that.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Give me your notes, DJ on what you had on
- 14:27Speaker 5: Abuca coming at Like he just slides through everything, like
- 14:32Speaker 5: so he's so smooth.
- 14:34Speaker 3: All right baldy, strong physical receiver with ability to play
- 14:37Speaker 3: inside or out. Quick in his release, he can fight
- 14:40Speaker 3: his way through press. I thought he's more of a
- 14:42Speaker 3: one speed route runner, but he's comfortable working in traffic.
- 14:45Speaker 3: He attacks the ball in the air in the middle
- 14:46Speaker 3: of the field. On vertical routes, he tracks the ball
- 14:49Speaker 3: extremely well. Has a knack for utilizing late hands to
- 14:51Speaker 3: prevent defender from playing the pocket and poking the ball away.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Has a great feel working in zones and adjusting this
- 14:56Speaker 3: route if the play is prolonged after the catch. More
- 15:00Speaker 3: toughness and pure speed to create extra yards. He's earned
- 15:02Speaker 3: rave reviews from NFL teams for the knowledge and leadership
- 15:05Speaker 3: uh he's shown when they've met with him. Overall, here's
- 15:08Speaker 3: the here's the kicker. Overall, I view abukas an impact
- 15:11Speaker 3: slot in the mold of former Buck guy Jackson Smith
- 15:13Speaker 3: and Jigba.
- 15:14Speaker 2: They shared.
- 15:15Speaker 3: They shared the field with both to tore the other
- 15:18Speaker 3: team apart. Yeah, but he's so nuanced. I'll pull my
- 15:22Speaker 3: note just from this game, just off of him. In
- 15:24Speaker 3: this game.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Slot.
- 15:26Speaker 3: He plays play inside, he play outside. He's so fluid
- 15:29Speaker 3: and smooth, wins on a whole shot lots of you
- 15:32Speaker 3: see skinny posts, you see a deep post. He's got
- 15:35Speaker 3: unbelievable feeling zone like, he's just got the awareness and
- 15:38Speaker 3: instinct to somebody who's been playing a heck of a
- 15:40Speaker 3: lot longer than he's played.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Buck.
- 15:42Speaker 1: You know, here's the thing that I would say about
- 15:43Speaker 1: both of those guys, because it was funny when you
- 15:47Speaker 1: look at the guys that played around them. There's more
- 15:49Speaker 1: maybe flash and sizzle, But both of those guys I
- 15:52Speaker 1: think you could put at the end of your port
- 15:54Speaker 1: just a pro like.
- 15:55Speaker 2: They just play the.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Game like season veterans, pros, high i Q players, skill
- 16:00Speaker 1: route runners. They can do their job, and they have
- 16:03Speaker 1: the versatility that every offensive coordinator wants and at least
- 16:06Speaker 1: one receiver being able to play inside and outside.
- 16:09Speaker 2: And look, man, we talked about Brian Hartline.
- 16:13Speaker 1: We've said what Ohio State does to develop wide receivers,
- 16:17Speaker 1: but I think every Sunday is an inframercier for Ohio
- 16:20Speaker 1: State when it comes to their white house, like in
- 16:22Speaker 1: this game in particular, if I'm a recruit and I'm
- 16:26Speaker 1: looking at how they're having success, why wouldn't I go
- 16:28Speaker 1: to Ohio State because they appear to be next level
- 16:31Speaker 1: ready when they step in and a book in JSN
- 16:34Speaker 1: are prime examples of that, you know.
- 16:37Speaker 4: They So they're down thirty five twenty eight with three
- 16:40Speaker 4: minutes to go, and Baker takes him on a five
- 16:43Speaker 4: place seventy yard drive with a touchdown to Shepherd and
- 16:47Speaker 4: the on the touchdown throw, he's looking for a book and.
- 16:50Speaker 5: They double him. They bracket him pretty good. He takes
- 16:52Speaker 5: a peak, he looks through the right, it's not there.
- 16:55Speaker 4: And then Baker does what he's been doing now, Like
- 16:57Speaker 4: his ability, it's not for there is some sort of
- 17:02Speaker 4: like movement, but how he moves and how he escapes
- 17:06Speaker 4: it's like it's different really than anybody else. And so
- 17:10Speaker 4: he escapes to his left and he takes a shot
- 17:13Speaker 4: to Shephard like I don't even know if he's open,
- 17:15Speaker 4: but he threw him open and he's getting chased pretty
- 17:18Speaker 4: good on the play. He was just an amaze, Like
- 17:21Speaker 4: that guy is a candidate to be the MVP of
- 17:24Speaker 4: this league.
- 17:24Speaker 5: Right it's five weeks, I get it, But the way
- 17:26Speaker 5: that guy's playing with his shorthanded as a bet on
- 17:29Speaker 5: the offensive line at receivers, you name it, and for
- 17:32Speaker 5: them to be where they are he's he just keeps
- 17:36Speaker 5: getting better.
- 17:37Speaker 3: All right, I'm gonna see if I can pull this
- 17:39Speaker 3: up because I wanted to go back through his report
- 17:42Speaker 3: because we're talking about these guys, and I'll get to
- 17:43Speaker 3: Darnold here in a second, because it's interesting. I think
- 17:45Speaker 3: these guys have kind of ended up where we hope
- 17:48Speaker 3: they would end up. Mayfield unique setup. He's frenetic, which
- 17:52Speaker 3: speaks to a little bit what you're talking about Baldi,
- 17:54Speaker 3: but he's consistently accurate despite throwing from a variety of
- 17:57Speaker 3: platforms and arm angles generates a ton of tork from
- 17:59Speaker 3: his lord body.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You need to see him.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Play in person to fully appreciate the way the ball
- 18:04Speaker 3: jumps out of his hand. His offensive line to night
- 18:07Speaker 3: chop keeping and clean, but when pressure, he showed the
- 18:08Speaker 3: ability to extend plays while keeping his eyes down the field.
- 18:10Speaker 3: He's accurate on the move, and while he lacks top speed,
- 18:13Speaker 3: he's very effective on desired QB runs. The biggest challenge
- 18:17Speaker 3: coming out of that offense involves a lack of tight
- 18:20Speaker 3: window throws he's had to make. It will take some
- 18:22Speaker 3: time for him to adjust to the lack of space.
- 18:24Speaker 3: At the next level. There are some questions about some
- 18:26Speaker 3: maturity stuff off the field. Long story short, Mayfield might
- 18:30Speaker 3: lack ideal size, but I love his accuracy, playmaking skills,
- 18:33Speaker 3: and toughness.
- 18:34Speaker 2: He has the tools to be a quality starter early
- 18:36Speaker 2: in his career. So and that's kind of where he is.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Which I want to get to Sam because I'll read
- 18:42Speaker 3: just Sam, yeah, and then we'll see, you know, if
- 18:46Speaker 3: if this sounds like this is kind of where he's
- 18:47Speaker 3: landed on as he's he's really up.
- 18:50Speaker 5: You know. They he threw the interception of Levante and
- 18:53Speaker 5: they ran that weak side overload with Winfield coming free
- 18:57Speaker 5: to get to Sam. But they ran that.
- 18:59Speaker 4: They ran that split six times against the Jets. They
- 19:02Speaker 4: got home every single time. It was either Winfield or
- 19:04Speaker 4: Powers was coming. And Todd can Todd will get a
- 19:09Speaker 4: free hitter to your quarterback man, He's going to happen.
- 19:11Speaker 4: And he just happened in the the biggest moment of
- 19:14Speaker 4: the game there in the final minute, fifty eight seconds ago.
- 19:17Speaker 2: And no doubt here is the Sam thing.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Thick, dirty frame operating the shotgun quick feet throws from
- 19:23Speaker 3: a wide base, has a long, loopy throwing motion, but
- 19:25Speaker 3: it's actually quick and explosive. He's showing the ability to
- 19:28Speaker 3: tighten up its times. It's very quick guys to work
- 19:30Speaker 3: through progressions and throws with an excellent anticipation. He can
- 19:33Speaker 3: change ball speed and ball flight. Has enough velocity to
- 19:36Speaker 3: fit balls and tight windows. Once he improves his weight transfer,
- 19:39Speaker 3: you'll see an up ticking accuracy and velocity. He's a
- 19:42Speaker 3: nifty athlete, capable of escaping free rushers and creating explosives
- 19:46Speaker 3: down the field. Very competitive runner fight for yards. Biggest
- 19:49Speaker 3: issue has been a fumble issue that he's had. I
- 19:51Speaker 3: needs to do a better job keeping both hands in
- 19:53Speaker 3: the ball in the pocket and covering the ball up
- 19:55Speaker 3: once he takes off. Overall, Darnold has some areas to
- 19:57Speaker 3: clean up. But I love his size, competitiveness, and ability
- 19:59Speaker 3: to make play on and off schedule. But he's gosh,
- 20:03Speaker 3: he's both these guys are playing great ball man. Look
- 20:05Speaker 3: at the numbers in this game. Uh, there weren't any
- 20:08Speaker 3: incomplete newspapers Rose, but Baker and Sam was twenty eight
- 20:13Speaker 3: for thirty four, Baker three seventy nine, Sam three forty one.
- 20:17Speaker 3: They combined for six touchdowns, a one pick, and then
- 20:20Speaker 3: the JSN stuff just kind of put a bow on
- 20:22Speaker 3: this whole thing. Uh, he's living outside man. For I
- 20:25Speaker 3: thought he was going to be an unbelievable slot receiver.
- 20:28Speaker 3: He has turned into one of the best outside receivers
- 20:30Speaker 3: in the NFL. He's plenty capable out there. He's he
- 20:35Speaker 3: wins and slants Buck in such a variety of ways
- 20:37Speaker 3: where you'll see one step slants and you'll see him whin.
- 20:40Speaker 3: You'll see guys off of him, and he has that
- 20:42Speaker 3: kind of aj brown like the little heal give him
- 20:44Speaker 3: a full two hand shove, you know, if they're gonna
- 20:46Speaker 3: squad on him and creates that separation there. Then he
- 20:49Speaker 3: also can he can weaven stem guys up and get
- 20:52Speaker 3: them off their off balance across their face. But he
- 20:54Speaker 3: has become an unbelievably effective slant route runner. And then
- 20:58Speaker 3: when he's working in the middle of the field, running
- 20:59Speaker 3: through zones, he's got such a feel for tempo. You
- 21:03Speaker 3: know how many times you see guys just run to
- 21:05Speaker 3: get covered like he's got a really good feel. I mean,
- 21:08Speaker 3: I think that's the thing. These guys have been trained
- 21:10Speaker 3: and taught very well by heartline to your point, Buck,
- 21:12Speaker 3: but I think both these players are so naturally instinctive
- 21:15Speaker 3: and have just a great feel for the game.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah. No, they're really talented.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Man.
- 21:21Speaker 1: They do a great job and their versatility is everything.
- 21:24Speaker 1: And to me, when you are a number one on
- 21:27Speaker 1: an aspiring number one, the more tools that you have
- 21:30Speaker 1: in your toolbox to allow your offensive coordinator to move
- 21:32Speaker 1: you around to get away from some of the tactics
- 21:36Speaker 1: and double coverage and brackets and those things, you just
- 21:39Speaker 1: need to have that in your arsenal. So I just
- 21:41Speaker 1: feel like both of these guys are well equipped to
- 21:44Speaker 1: always be impact players because you can do so many
- 21:48Speaker 1: different things with them as young players that you can
- 21:50Speaker 1: only imagine as their knowledge base grows, what you're going
- 21:54Speaker 1: to be able to do when they're year five, six
- 21:56Speaker 1: seven in the.
- 21:57Speaker 2: League, No doubt.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Let's say, quick Pause will back into a game I
- 22:01Speaker 3: was at the had a wild turn the Commanders, and
- 22:03Speaker 3: the Chargers will jump into that right after this. All right, guys,
- 22:09Speaker 3: that was a weird one at SOLFI yesterday. I mean
- 22:11Speaker 3: the Chargers are up ten to nothing. They're driving big
- 22:14Speaker 3: completion to Quentin Johnson. You think it's going to be
- 22:16Speaker 3: seventeen nothing and it's going to be kind of a laugher,
- 22:19Speaker 3: and then Quent Johnson fumbles and then that just changed
- 22:22Speaker 3: the momentum of this game. But it was it was
- 22:25Speaker 3: a game baldy where the Commanders got stronger as the
- 22:28Speaker 3: game went along. The Chargers for the second week in
- 22:30Speaker 3: a row, a ton of penalties, double digit penalties, some
- 22:32Speaker 3: costly penalties, including a touchdown that was called back on
- 22:35Speaker 3: a punt return. But man, I don't know how you
- 22:38Speaker 3: go anywhere else than what that backfield looks like now, Washington.
- 22:41Speaker 2: It's pretty exciting. Man.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Well that Bill Krossky Merritt. I mean, this story is
- 22:46Speaker 4: it has to, you know, continue to blow up. But
- 22:48Speaker 4: he's I mean, we saw there was a reason why
- 22:51Speaker 4: you know, they they traded Brian Robinson at the start
- 22:54Speaker 4: of the season, like they saw this guy's ability.
- 22:57Speaker 5: And the story is just an amazing story.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Didn't play or all the stuff that we kind of
- 23:01Speaker 4: talked about, but his put that foot in the ground
- 23:04Speaker 4: quickness and the way that they are running the ball
- 23:07Speaker 4: right now using a variety of formations.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Those tight ends are freaking leads in there.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Man at number eighty seven is as good at blocking
- 23:16Speaker 4: tight end as there is right now in the league,
- 23:18Speaker 4: and they run behind him a bunch, and so it's Uh,
- 23:21Speaker 4: it's you know, it's it's it's always been Cliffs Mantra, honestly,
- 23:26Speaker 4: even when he was at Texas Tech and even go
- 23:27Speaker 4: back to A and M like spread him out and
- 23:30Speaker 4: figure out ways to open up the lanes and we're
- 23:33Speaker 4: gonna we're gonna hit him quick. And he's got every
- 23:35Speaker 4: run in the book. And it can be from unbalanced formations,
- 23:39Speaker 4: it can be from power power formations in the backfield,
- 23:43Speaker 4: it can be you know, out of the shotgun. It
- 23:45Speaker 4: could be used in the quarterback as a decoy. Mean,
- 23:47Speaker 4: he's got every variety of run that there is right.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Now, Buck, they flipped.
- 23:52Speaker 3: They flipped on one play the quarterback and the running
- 23:55Speaker 3: back and then and then Merritt, big bad Bill runs
- 23:58Speaker 3: freaking wildcat like his own reading gets right up into
- 24:01Speaker 3: the hole. Like I mean, it was just they were
- 24:03Speaker 3: it was it was very creative. And it wasn't just Bates,
- 24:05Speaker 3: who's an unbelievable blocker sent it did a nice job
- 24:07Speaker 3: as well.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Eighty two.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Uh, both those Titans leading up into the hole. So
- 24:10Speaker 3: they were they were creative, they were physical, and they
- 24:14Speaker 3: kind of you know, look when you when you're looking
- 24:16Speaker 3: at that team and you're sitting there going okay, Man,
- 24:18Speaker 3: I looked at him on tape watching them, I'm like,
- 24:20Speaker 3: the secondary is giving up more big plays than anybody
- 24:22Speaker 3: in football. I don't know that they're all that dynamic
- 24:25Speaker 3: and their defensive front. And then all of a sudden
- 24:28Speaker 3: you get a healthy Jayden Daniels back in there, and
- 24:30Speaker 3: Mario did a nice job, but this is different. He's
- 24:32Speaker 3: a different caliber guy and it brings quarterbacks like that,
- 24:35Speaker 3: and you've talked about it before. It just brings hope
- 24:37Speaker 3: and and it brings energy to the whole club.
- 24:39Speaker 2: It brings energy. It was a homecoming for Jade Daniels
- 24:42Speaker 2: coming back.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Played alcoholm high school, so this was the opportunity for
- 24:45Speaker 1: all of his people to see him.
- 24:46Speaker 2: You knew he's gonna put on a show.
- 24:48Speaker 1: And I would say the thing that is really impressive,
- 24:50Speaker 1: not only about him, but about the Commander's team is Man,
- 24:52Speaker 1: they go as he goes, and he's the drumbeat, but
- 24:55Speaker 1: he has a calm demeanor about him.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Sat where it does.
- 25:00Speaker 1: The game doesn't get too high or out of source
- 25:02Speaker 1: and DJ, the thing that you said that stood out
- 25:05Speaker 1: on tape was their overall physicality, Like you know, it's
- 25:08Speaker 1: funny because Cliff Kingsbury gets.
- 25:10Speaker 2: To the wrap of being the air raid Wizard.
- 25:12Speaker 1: They want to throw it all over the yard, but
- 25:14Speaker 1: at the heart of arts, like they run the football,
- 25:16Speaker 1: the dan Quinn is working in Joe Whitjew, You're working
- 25:19Speaker 1: to get this defense on track. And when you look
- 25:21Speaker 1: at the landscape, you look at the NFC East and
- 25:23Speaker 1: how tight it was and how they made ground.
- 25:26Speaker 2: They stumbled out the gate.
- 25:27Speaker 1: For the last few weeks, we've seen this team kind
- 25:30Speaker 1: of be the team that many of us expected, and.
- 25:32Speaker 2: So they're in the hunting.
- 25:34Speaker 1: As long as they have that quarterback healthy, they have
- 25:36Speaker 1: a chance because they can go knock off anybody.
- 25:39Speaker 5: GJ.
- 25:40Speaker 4: I saw von Miller had a couple couple more sacks.
- 25:43Speaker 4: Is he like the official closer right now? Does he
- 25:46Speaker 4: still have von Miller type? You know, like getting his
- 25:49Speaker 4: hands on guys and just figuring out how to you know,
- 25:52Speaker 4: either bend or come off a twist or whatever.
- 25:55Speaker 5: I have to watch, so I'm looking forward to see it.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he's still got the long arm and so he
- 26:00Speaker 3: can dust that off. And then the Chargers, i mean,
- 26:02Speaker 3: Pipkins goes down. So you got your fourth and fifth
- 26:05Speaker 3: tackles out there. Yeah, yeah, that was I mean, you
- 26:08Speaker 3: got no chance, but so you got overseet issues and
- 26:11Speaker 3: they had some wins inside of those tackles. So it
- 26:15Speaker 3: was a tough one for Herbert from that standpoint. But
- 26:17Speaker 3: I was thinking of it, like I know nothing about music.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I've never had a music lesson, I've never played an
- 26:21Speaker 3: instrument at all. But I have this image of like
- 26:24Speaker 3: if you're Cliff Kingsbury, is you're a drummer and the
- 26:28Speaker 3: symbol is Deebo Samuel because you're just kind of hitting
- 26:30Speaker 3: the drums and it's like, oh yeah, let's just get
- 26:32Speaker 3: a little quick screen to debo.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Okay, boom boom boom.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Let's get a little quick screen to deep. That's seven
- 26:36Speaker 3: to ten yards anytime you want it, anytime you want
- 26:38Speaker 3: to hit that little symbol and just shoot the ball
- 26:40Speaker 3: out there Deebo Samuel. By the time you get him
- 26:42Speaker 3: on the ground, it's seven or eight yards.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Do you think on Cliff's play sheet he just has
- 26:47Speaker 4: deebo plays like there's just ten plays right there. Then
- 26:50Speaker 4: he can you know, second and seven, Okay, let's go
- 26:52Speaker 4: get the first down, Like it could be that simple
- 26:55Speaker 4: right now.
- 26:56Speaker 3: And the other thing is on those over routes, Like
- 26:58Speaker 3: a lot of times you think about over routes, think
- 27:00Speaker 3: about okay, it's a just pure speed. You're just trying
- 27:02Speaker 3: to get from A to B as fast as you can.
- 27:05Speaker 3: He is so good. I've never seen somebody so strong
- 27:08Speaker 3: without using their hands. Or he'll just get up to
- 27:10Speaker 3: the defender buck and it's just like a little shoulder
- 27:13Speaker 3: and he's just so big and strong. It just kicks
- 27:15Speaker 3: that corner off his path for two or three yards.
- 27:18Speaker 3: And Devo is not the fastest guy roll, but that
- 27:20Speaker 3: little nudget that he gives on those things, it's enough
- 27:23Speaker 3: separation he needs to get across the field and make plays.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Man he is.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Look, he's the invitiment of why you know some teams
- 27:29Speaker 1: prefer to have guys with punk returned skills in the
- 27:32Speaker 1: background out wide And when you see him and you
- 27:35Speaker 1: think about his bodybuild and how thick he is, DJ
- 27:38Speaker 1: the challenge that he poses to DB's is trying to
- 27:41Speaker 1: get him down in space because he's a physical runner.
- 27:44Speaker 2: He has big size, big legs.
- 27:46Speaker 1: He runs through arm tackles and so you got to
- 27:49Speaker 1: front him up to get him down. And the more
- 27:52Speaker 1: they give him the ball on those short screens, or whatever,
- 27:55Speaker 1: the better he gets when they get it all together
- 27:59Speaker 1: mclauren and Debo and and they kind of kind of
- 28:02Speaker 1: figure out what's the best combination to maximize everybody Office
- 28:06Speaker 1: is going to be more explosive then we could ever imagine.
- 28:09Speaker 1: This is a really good team of well constructed team
- 28:11Speaker 1: and look, the best is still yet to comfort them
- 28:13Speaker 1: as they're still turning over.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Their roster from your guys playing career Baldi buck is deep.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Is there any comp for historical comp for Debo just
- 28:20Speaker 3: kind of how he plays? I mean, I know Sterling
- 28:23Speaker 3: was so much faster. That's that's that's that's I think.
- 28:28Speaker 5: Ye didn't use them like that, but they could have
- 28:31Speaker 5: something like that.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I just couldn't.
- 28:33Speaker 4: I just think, you know, sometimes like I think Debo,
- 28:37Speaker 4: he didn't wear out as welcome.
- 28:38Speaker 5: They just didn't use them.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I mean they outside of putting them in at the
- 28:41Speaker 4: tailback position when they were short handed, they didn't use them.
- 28:45Speaker 4: I think the way Cliff is using them, I think
- 28:47Speaker 4: it's just a perfect blend. The analogy with the with
- 28:52Speaker 4: the symbol is pretty good there.
- 28:53Speaker 2: DJ.
- 28:54Speaker 4: I just feel like they just know how to use them,
- 28:58Speaker 4: you know, and use his strengths and and it's like
- 29:00Speaker 4: a really, it's a great fit early this season.
- 29:03Speaker 3: All right, we don't need to spend long on these
- 29:06Speaker 3: next few here, but I wanted to hit a couple
- 29:08Speaker 3: of things here, Houston Baltimore, and I could go easily
- 29:11Speaker 3: into the Baltimore bad, but I'm going to start Houston
- 29:13Speaker 3: good Stroud twenty three to twenty seven. And I know
- 29:16Speaker 3: Baltimore's missing everybody, but they needed a game like that
- 29:19Speaker 3: from him. Two hundred and forty four yards, four touchdowns,
- 29:21Speaker 3: no picks. It was interesting to watch the tape when
- 29:24Speaker 3: they were when they were in pocket, everything was in rhythm.
- 29:28Speaker 3: There was some play action, the ball was gone like
- 29:30Speaker 3: they were not going to let this offensive line, you know,
- 29:32Speaker 3: have be a stumbling block for him. So it was
- 29:34Speaker 3: in the pocket, get the ball out quick, which obviously
- 29:37Speaker 3: you're not going to be able to get the ball vertical.
- 29:39Speaker 3: When they wanted to take their shots down the field,
- 29:41Speaker 3: it was boots and they were moving the pocket. So hey,
- 29:44Speaker 3: we want to be able to attack vertically, but we're
- 29:46Speaker 3: not going to do that as a stationary target in
- 29:48Speaker 3: the pocket behind an offensive line. It's a little suspect.
- 29:51Speaker 3: So we're going to go ahead and get him on
- 29:52Speaker 3: the move and we want to push the ball vertical.
- 29:54Speaker 3: I thought it was a pretty good game plan from
- 29:55Speaker 3: them that he executed really well. And then Jalen Petrie
- 29:58Speaker 3: had two picks. Who's and a good player in this
- 30:00Speaker 3: league since he came out of Baylor, and he's goot,
- 30:03Speaker 3: he's kind of Johnny on the spot, always around the football.
- 30:06Speaker 4: I thought the one two punch of Chubb and Woody
- 30:11Speaker 4: marks is uh is pretty strong. I mean, that's the
- 30:14Speaker 4: best offensive line play. I know they changed coordinators. You know,
- 30:18Speaker 4: Ariante's over at left tackle. I've seen them both sides
- 30:21Speaker 4: right now, But that was the best the line played
- 30:23Speaker 4: in the running game. I thought they had a good
- 30:25Speaker 4: one to two punch in the run game yesterday. And
- 30:27Speaker 4: then you know, Nico's Nico, Like they Baltimore had no
- 30:31Speaker 4: idea what to do with him. I mean, it was
- 30:33Speaker 4: one good throw after another. But you know, Hutchinson came
- 30:35Speaker 4: up pretty big, is it Zebra Hutchinson?
- 30:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yep. Iowa State, Iowa State.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I thought all the you know, they got
- 30:42Speaker 4: a whole bunch of Iowa State receivers. I think all
- 30:45Speaker 4: those guys you know, had good contributions yesterday.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Buck.
- 30:49Speaker 3: How about the Baltimore side. You want to be the
- 30:50Speaker 3: bad guy? Yeah, man, it's it's bad.
- 30:54Speaker 2: DJ is bad.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Now.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I know they had seven quote unquote Pro bowlers they
- 30:57Speaker 1: were sitting out, but still, man, it's not supposed to
- 31:00Speaker 1: fall this far off. And before I even talk about
- 31:03Speaker 1: the lack of talent in terms of like that being
- 31:05Speaker 1: off the field, to me, this is the first time
- 31:07Speaker 1: in a long time that I've seen the Baltimore Ravens without.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Their swagging, their identity. They're a swaggerless team.
- 31:14Speaker 1: This is a team that has always been able to
- 31:16Speaker 1: lean into We may be shorthanded, but we can beat
- 31:19Speaker 1: you up. We can make it a brawl in those things.
- 31:22Speaker 1: And right now they don't have the confidence. And part
- 31:25Speaker 1: of the reason they don't have the confidence because the
- 31:27Speaker 1: first time in a long time, their defense is the
- 31:29Speaker 1: weak link. They're bad on defense, I mean, and they're
- 31:33Speaker 1: bad on the fundamental the fundamental things, tackling, pursuit, angles, alignment,
- 31:39Speaker 1: basic stuff. Never seen the Ravens like this. And I
- 31:43Speaker 1: know and never advocate for people losing.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Jobs or whatever.
- 31:48Speaker 1: And I know John Harborough through his full support behind
- 31:50Speaker 1: Zach Orr and I know they have other guys but
- 31:53Speaker 1: the Jay, the clock is ticking one and four.
- 31:55Speaker 2: For a team that is as talented as they come,
- 31:58Speaker 2: they have to fix this. D fits in a hurry.
- 32:00Speaker 1: They got a week, did a bye week, but man,
- 32:02Speaker 1: change has to come and has to come right now.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's bad.
- 32:07Speaker 3: And Kyle Vanoy his quote was gapp put in the
- 32:10Speaker 3: chat here no excuses. I just watched the Niners have injuries,
- 32:13Speaker 3: go out there and play football. As professionals, you get
- 32:15Speaker 3: paid to place. We have to go play better. We
- 32:17Speaker 3: have to get ours together just being brutally honest. Coaches
- 32:20Speaker 3: can give us the plays, but we have to execute.
- 32:22Speaker 3: And it doesn't matter who you are in there, do
- 32:24Speaker 3: your job. Coaches asked you to do something, do it,
- 32:27Speaker 3: myself included. So yeah, they realized that it's not good enough.
- 32:30Speaker 3: The way they've played. I can't recall it. The never
- 32:33Speaker 3: I can't recall because there never has been a Baltimore
- 32:35Speaker 3: defense like this. Ever, it's bad, ever bad. Baldy Detroit, Cincinnati,
- 32:41Speaker 3: you were there, what you see?
- 32:42Speaker 4: You know yesterday Detroit was rolling out a alumni of
- 32:49Speaker 4: University of British Columbia. You've been up there to recruit
- 32:53Speaker 4: tape only Okay, So you know, they've got two starting
- 32:56Speaker 4: tackles in this league right now.
- 32:58Speaker 5: All right, yesterday, uh this Giovanni Maneu made.
- 33:02Speaker 4: His first NFL start. He's a second year player from
- 33:05Speaker 4: British Clubia. That the kid, Theos Benedict in Chicago starting
- 33:09Speaker 4: at left tackle. So I talked to Hank Frailey. So
- 33:12Speaker 4: Hank was kind of like, he's going up against a
- 33:14Speaker 4: good player. They've all will find out what he's all about.
- 33:17Speaker 4: But you know, they let him go against you know,
- 33:18Speaker 4: Trey Henderson, and Trey made a couple of plays out there.
- 33:21Speaker 4: He definitely got a force fumble and made some plays.
- 33:23Speaker 5: But the kid, first of all, when you see the kid,
- 33:26Speaker 5: he's six seven, he's long arms, he's got a shaved head,
- 33:30Speaker 5: like he looks the part, you know. And then you
- 33:33Speaker 5: go and you go, okay.
- 33:34Speaker 4: There's Penny Sewel and there's the there's the mullet on
- 33:38Speaker 4: Ratlds right here. Like they've got this thing together up front,
- 33:43Speaker 4: and so it doesn't matter if Montgomery's running or if
- 33:45Speaker 4: he's throwing it, or if it's Jamiir Gibbs.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Like they've got a formula right now.
- 33:51Speaker 4: And every week it seems like Johnny Morton's got a
- 33:54Speaker 4: guy that's gonna kind of be the So yesterday, you know,
- 33:58Speaker 4: the tight end had a big day and it was
- 34:00Speaker 4: crossing round they got they hit these crossing routes to
- 34:03Speaker 4: him and Demon Ross Saint Brown, and honestly, it looks
- 34:07Speaker 4: like a Friday afternoon walkthrough, Like basically golf doesn't get hit.
- 34:12Speaker 4: He stands there on his post and stand five yards
- 34:15Speaker 4: and he just carves him up, and uh, it was.
- 34:17Speaker 4: It was pretty impressive. They were really shorthanded in the
- 34:20Speaker 4: secondary on defense. But the quarterback was so bad that
- 34:25Speaker 4: even with Jamar Chase and and t I thought they
- 34:27Speaker 4: could take advantage of it out there, and they just
- 34:30Speaker 4: he was just so bad.
- 34:30Speaker 5: I don't know what he was doing.
- 34:31Speaker 4: It was, it was. It was really rough to watch it.
- 34:34Speaker 4: They can't run the ball at all. They're lasting offense.
- 34:37Speaker 4: They made a couple of plays in the fourth quarter
- 34:39Speaker 4: to try to try to stay in the game a
- 34:40Speaker 4: little bit, but it was it was hard to watch them,
- 34:43Speaker 4: and it was a that was a that was a
- 34:45Speaker 4: beat down.
- 34:45Speaker 5: Pretty good.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Joe Burrow might get MVP votes.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Fuck, he should get MVP boats based on how they
- 34:51Speaker 1: look without him there.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I mean, it's just a bad football team.
- 34:54Speaker 1: And it's funny, right because I'm there when Joe Burrow
- 34:56Speaker 1: gets hurt, Jake brown comes in and the second half
- 34:58Speaker 1: he gets hot, and then then the world at the
- 35:01Speaker 1: table was like, Okay, we're going to cut that off
- 35:03Speaker 1: and nail what.
- 35:04Speaker 2: And they haven't been able to put anything.
- 35:06Speaker 1: And I have seen Jake Browning at his best couple
- 35:09Speaker 1: of years ago when he stepped in and kind of
- 35:11Speaker 1: had them in contention for a playoffs.
- 35:12Speaker 2: But he look, he's been bad.
- 35:14Speaker 1: And look, it's it's criminal in terms of the wasted
- 35:19Speaker 1: talent that they have on the perimeter when you don't
- 35:21Speaker 1: have anybody who can get them the ball.
- 35:23Speaker 2: But here's that's the biggest thing.
- 35:25Speaker 4: I think one of the issues bucking why Jake Browning,
- 35:28Speaker 4: you know, isn't playing worth of darn is they look
- 35:32Speaker 4: like they're running the same offense that Joe Burrow runs,
- 35:35Speaker 4: you know, and Joe just goes through progressions like nobody
- 35:38Speaker 4: else in his business. So he can take a peek
- 35:40Speaker 4: at tomorrow. Okay, they got him bracketed. Okay, I'm coming
- 35:43Speaker 4: over to the other side, like Jake can't play like that.
- 35:45Speaker 4: So I don't see some of the creativity DJing that
- 35:48Speaker 4: we see in this league to get guys loose, to
- 35:51Speaker 4: shake the loose where it's a you know, like what
- 35:53Speaker 4: they're doing in Indianapolis for you know Daniel Jones right now,
- 35:56Speaker 4: Like they don't they're not doing those kind of things
- 36:00Speaker 4: to get to the ball or to get Ja Mar
- 36:02Speaker 4: the ball. And you know it's not Look, it's an
- 36:06Speaker 4: indictment on Brownie. He's not good enough. But don't ask
- 36:08Speaker 4: Brownie to be Joe Burrow out there and play quarterback.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Joe Burrow is the best whack a mole
- 36:13Speaker 3: player in the NFL. I mean, like if there's he sees,
- 36:16Speaker 3: he sees the entire board and is able to react
- 36:18Speaker 3: to it unlike anybody else. So there's not just a
- 36:20Speaker 3: Browning thing. I don't know many quarterbacks that could play
- 36:23Speaker 3: the way the Burrow plays. I want to go back
- 36:25Speaker 3: over to golf real quick. I wrote this down, like
- 36:28Speaker 3: you know, you're watching guys and at different positions, and
- 36:31Speaker 3: you're sitting there going, you know, if I had a
- 36:32Speaker 3: high school quarterback and I wanted to have somebody with
- 36:35Speaker 3: teaching tape. Yeah, I don't know anybody thinks that golf
- 36:38Speaker 3: might be the one that I would pick because I've
- 36:41Speaker 3: always been taught. You know, it's almost like the John
- 36:43Speaker 3: Wooden thing. Be quick, but not in a hurry. You know,
- 36:45Speaker 3: you want to have quick feet, but you don't want
- 36:47Speaker 3: to be you know, too frazzled or too too too
- 36:51Speaker 3: frenetic or too busy. He has got really really quick feet.
- 36:54Speaker 3: But everything he does is so smooth and fluid and easy.
- 36:57Speaker 3: And part of that I get is because the offensive
- 36:59Speaker 3: line is so good and they afford him clean pockets,
- 37:02Speaker 3: but he throws from a firm platform. It's everything is
- 37:05Speaker 3: textbook about what he does. They did a ton of
- 37:07Speaker 3: stuff in this game where they pair up the tight
- 37:09Speaker 3: ends on the same side and they had you know,
- 37:11Speaker 3: I think about creativity and some of the stuff they did.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Uh that was that was an effective way for him.
- 37:16Speaker 3: But I just thought, man, this is the best quick, smooth, fluid,
- 37:20Speaker 3: you know quarterback when I was growing up and I
- 37:22Speaker 3: was young, but I used to always and when I
- 37:25Speaker 3: just started playing in college, like they would always show
- 37:27Speaker 3: us stuff of Montana.
- 37:28Speaker 2: That was the guy.
- 37:29Speaker 3: He's like, Okay, he's not the biggest guy to have
- 37:30Speaker 3: the strongest arm or anything. Well, look at how fluid
- 37:33Speaker 3: and smoothies. I like just be as smooth and flu
- 37:35Speaker 3: We used to talk about even like kind of rocking
- 37:37Speaker 3: the ball and your drop like kind of from shoulder
- 37:38Speaker 3: to shoulder and just kind of allowing yourself to get
- 37:40Speaker 3: a nice little smooth rhythm to it, and and golf
- 37:43Speaker 3: plays that way. So he was again foreign completions. There's
- 37:47Speaker 3: a lot of games where quarterbacks just didn't throw in completions.
- 37:49Speaker 3: You only have four completions and three touchdowns. So he
- 37:52Speaker 3: is great almost forty games.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Easy Yeah, easy moved off their gas in the fourth Quarner.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Let me say this because I might have been the
- 38:02Speaker 1: biggest skeptic when it came to John Morton and David Sean.
- 38:05Speaker 2: All these guys taken over for.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Ben Johnson, all of the physical and fun stuff that
- 38:10Speaker 1: Ben Johnson has done. They've been able to continue to
- 38:12Speaker 1: do some of that while finding their identity and listen
- 38:16Speaker 1: to a mom Rod Saint Brown talk to Dave Montgomery
- 38:19Speaker 1: on a podcast and they were talking about the differences
- 38:21Speaker 1: between Ben Johnson and Johnny Moe and how Johnny Moe
- 38:25Speaker 1: is direct and he's a little different when it comes
- 38:29Speaker 1: to the edginess of his presentations.
- 38:31Speaker 2: But they've retained some of this fun.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Stuff, and they still have I would say, like the
- 38:38Speaker 1: physicality and toughness the Wildcat played down at the goal
- 38:42Speaker 1: line Montgomery during the jump.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Pass, like they still have some of that stuff.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I just give John Morton a lot of credit because
- 38:48Speaker 1: I think he stepped into some big shoes to replace
- 38:51Speaker 1: because you had an expectation of what this offense has been.
- 38:56Speaker 2: It's hard to keep the points up, the.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Physicality up, makes it some fun plays and do all that.
- 39:03Speaker 1: But he's found a way to do it within his
- 39:05Speaker 1: own personality. So it ass off to him for being
- 39:09Speaker 1: able to take that over and do it well.
- 39:10Speaker 5: All putting up forty and really Jameis and William has
- 39:13Speaker 5: been very quiet the last two weeks, and so like
- 39:16Speaker 5: once they get him going and his speed like it's
- 39:20Speaker 5: I don't know, I don't know if anybody can slow
- 39:22Speaker 5: him down right now.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Have they told you, Baldi how much they're given golf.
- 39:25Speaker 3: It feels like he's got maybe a little more control
- 39:28Speaker 3: in this in this environment that maybe I just talked.
- 39:30Speaker 5: To him briefly on the field before the game. He
- 39:33Speaker 5: takes his warm up pretty.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Serious, so you know, you don't want to interrupt too
- 39:37Speaker 4: much of that, but he just has a like just
- 39:40Speaker 4: the level of focus. You know, going on the road
- 39:43Speaker 4: in Cincinnati, your crowd was all there, Like just the
- 39:46Speaker 4: focus that he plays with, like he just blocks all
- 39:49Speaker 4: that stuff out and it is he sees the field
- 39:51Speaker 4: so good.
- 39:52Speaker 5: He had laporta early in that game.
- 39:53Speaker 4: So many times they had no they had no answer
- 39:56Speaker 4: for some of the stuff they were doing.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Now and on the defensive side of the five quarterback
- 40:00Speaker 3: hits for Aden Hudginson, He's got five sacks this year.
- 40:03Speaker 3: I went back and watched all of his sacks. He's
- 40:05Speaker 3: winning all the ways. Man power.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Yesterday DJF wasn't for a little contact on Terry on Arnold. Yeah,
- 40:12Speaker 4: he had a safety you know, Dad to that that
- 40:14Speaker 4: resume right now, that was impressive.
- 40:16Speaker 3: And you know the burst is still there when he
- 40:18Speaker 3: can escape and close. There's some there's some change of
- 40:21Speaker 3: direction stuff like he worked out here to spin in
- 40:24Speaker 3: a previous game where just he not quite as fluid
- 40:27Speaker 3: coming off that injury, which I'm sure that's going to come.
- 40:29Speaker 3: But speed power, his hands are awesome, Like he looks
- 40:33Speaker 3: like he's he's back and you kind of man, you
- 40:35Speaker 3: don't want to look in the rear view mirror. What
- 40:36Speaker 3: if he didn't get hurt last year? You know, what
- 40:38Speaker 3: does that mean for that Detroit team.
- 40:40Speaker 4: I talked to I talked to Zeus before the game,
- 40:42Speaker 4: and he never played him before, but he knew that.
- 40:44Speaker 5: You know, we're talking about max effort.
- 40:47Speaker 4: He makes more plays on the other side of the
- 40:49Speaker 4: field than any defensive end of this league right now.
- 40:52Speaker 5: His effort is.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Just you know, he's got Jared Allen traits to him.
- 40:55Speaker 3: So that's who he reminded me of when he was
- 40:57Speaker 3: coming out. Not just doing the white on white edge
- 40:59Speaker 3: rusher comparison there, but that just the effort, like Jared
- 41:02Speaker 3: Allen never stopped. Yeah, all right, let's last one here
- 41:11Speaker 3: and then we'll be on. Let Baldy get on his
- 41:13Speaker 3: way here. Giants Saints. Hey, the Saints won a game.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Spencer Ratler won a game. Body, Yeah, no, I mean,
- 41:19Speaker 3: and you know, he has been playing pretty well, but
- 41:21Speaker 3: I got you know.
- 41:22Speaker 4: They hit the big shot to Rashid Shaheed which really
- 41:26Speaker 4: kind of opened things up.
- 41:27Speaker 5: They got to turnovers, but he's been playing well.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Like you know, they had Buffalo twenty one sixteen in
- 41:33Speaker 4: the fourth quarter. They were driving last week and they
- 41:36Speaker 4: let it get away from him. They had Arizona like
- 41:39Speaker 4: right down to the wire. They've been playing pretty good.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Kellimore's he's a good coordinator.
- 41:45Speaker 5: He just knows how to run off and say if
- 41:47Speaker 5: they got a good one two punch with Kendre Miller
- 41:50Speaker 5: and you know, and Kamaras can still do it.
- 41:54Speaker 4: They had a rook they had a rookie right guard
- 41:56Speaker 4: you know that never played before in there, and the
- 41:58Speaker 4: Giants didn't take advantage of him. In fact, Spencer Rattler,
- 42:02Speaker 4: I don't think he got sacked in the game. I
- 42:03Speaker 4: don't even know if he got hit. So he looked good.
- 42:06Speaker 5: He took off and he ran a couple of times,
- 42:08Speaker 5: but he hit the big shot when it was there.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Just he's their deep threat. I thought he was. I
- 42:13Speaker 5: thought he played really well.
- 42:15Speaker 3: He's got a live arm man. Just going back through that,
- 42:17Speaker 3: he has got a really he actually does. I know
- 42:20Speaker 3: it's not just Oklahoma thing, but the ball comes out
- 42:22Speaker 3: similar to Baker like, ball jumps out of his hand
- 42:24Speaker 3: when he's driving the ball outside the numbers. Not a big,
- 42:26Speaker 3: big guy, but he's got a loose, live arm book.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look it.
- 42:33Speaker 1: It's something to watch these two teams right, because you're
- 42:38Speaker 1: thinking the Giants are about to get it going.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Jackson Dark comes in the first drive that he had
- 42:42Speaker 2: looked terrific, and then just man, just the turnovers.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Like I think they had five drives in a row
- 42:49Speaker 1: that just were just debacles, and you just can't have
- 42:52Speaker 1: those kinds of things when you're a team that can't
- 42:55Speaker 1: overwhelm people. And I just look at the Giants and
- 42:58Speaker 1: I just think, like, like, I like the fun stuff
- 43:01Speaker 1: that they're doing. I like how they're trying to maximize it.
- 43:03Speaker 1: But he has to value the ball. And then sometimes
- 43:05Speaker 1: Dave Ball has to kind of help him by calling
- 43:08Speaker 1: things that don't put him in a situation where he
- 43:10Speaker 1: is exposed where he can't turn the ball over.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Now, no Molik Neighbors sucks man. You're hoping to really
- 43:15Speaker 3: get a chance to watch this young quarterback grow and develop,
- 43:18Speaker 3: and you lose your big time weapons.
- 43:19Speaker 1: So can I say this break Baldy, did you see
- 43:23Speaker 1: camp scattered boot.
- 43:25Speaker 2: On the block him?
- 43:26Speaker 1: Yeah, like I know the lost but holy smoked in
- 43:31Speaker 1: terms of just like a stature like just man up
- 43:36Speaker 1: under and just.
- 43:37Speaker 5: Hells people watch people. Man, he comes, he gets all
- 43:41Speaker 5: up in the grill.
- 43:42Speaker 4: It looks like MMA stuff in the octagon, man, like
- 43:45Speaker 4: the way that he takes people down.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Yeah, he did it.
- 43:48Speaker 3: He did it on the draw last week, so he's
- 43:51Speaker 3: he's done it a couple of weeks in a row here,
- 43:52Speaker 3: but yeah, he Congrats to Kellen Moore. He's a great dude.
- 43:56Speaker 3: He is a very good coach. And I just didn't
- 43:57Speaker 3: think they'd have enough players to be competitive, and they've
- 43:59Speaker 3: been competitive, as you mentioned that. Uh, and they got
- 44:02Speaker 3: themselves a win here, so congrats to them. Also, love
- 44:05Speaker 3: kind of doing a lot more RPO stuff with with
- 44:07Speaker 3: Rattler two. He's very comfortable with all that. So hey,
- 44:10Speaker 3: Dylan Gabriel real quick had a good Uh. I know
- 44:12Speaker 3: they didn't win the game, but he was good. He
- 44:14Speaker 3: was efficient. I think, hey, that's there's nothing I saw there.
- 44:18Speaker 3: They would say, I'm looking anywhere else. I'm gonna roll
- 44:19Speaker 3: at him until until.
- 44:21Speaker 4: You look at that. You look at the first touchdown
- 44:24Speaker 4: to Fanning. There's Fanning, you know, there's Quinn, Shawn Jenkins,
- 44:27Speaker 4: there's Dylan. I mean, they got the rookies all out there.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Yep.
- 44:31Speaker 4: You know Dylan Samson's playing leads the team and tackles
- 44:35Speaker 4: every week. Uh, Mason Graham's been really good. I mean, look,
- 44:39Speaker 4: they're they're a rebuild mode. But I thought he got
- 44:41Speaker 4: rid of the ball quickly, accurately. You know, he had
- 44:44Speaker 4: him in contention right to the very end.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Yeah, no good stuff there from Dylan Gabriel. Almost see
- 44:49Speaker 3: how the rest of those rookies played the rest of
- 44:51Speaker 3: the year. Again, they've got they'll be watching the Jags
- 44:53Speaker 3: game tonight, Buck Cleveland intently paying attention to your bag,
- 44:57Speaker 3: of course, with their chiefs, with their chiefs hats on.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I mean, I know, like hopefully the Jacks don't give
- 45:03Speaker 1: them anything to be excited about.
- 45:05Speaker 3: They got a couple of picks here in the first
- 45:06Speaker 3: round next year, so it could be exciting days to
- 45:08Speaker 3: head here for Cleveland. Baldi, appreciate your time on Mondays.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Everybody loves these things, man, they're great. Appreciate everybody listening.
- 45:15Speaker 3: We'll see you next time right here on.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Move the sticks.
