- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark movie fan. I'm Wendy.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm your Hallmark former Hallmark hater. Wow, we're gonna dive
- 0:21Speaker 1: right in. Oh I'm sorry. Hey, friends, we would love
- 0:25Speaker 1: for you to join us on Instagram. You can find
- 0:27Speaker 1: us at Girls Gone Hamemark or at Megan and Wendy.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Jump into our Girls Gone Hamewark Facebook group. Hey, we
- 0:36Speaker 1: just hit five hundred over there, and you know, we
- 0:38Speaker 1: only started that group a year ago. And I know
- 0:41Speaker 1: that might seem like peanuts. I'm gonna say small peanuts.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Is that small potatoes? Potatoes? Thank you very much? The
- 0:50Speaker 1: five hundred. Organically, we don't know any of these people
- 0:54Speaker 1: except for like a few. It makes me very happy.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We have a group of five hundred people. Yeah, and
- 0:59Speaker 1: it's engaged group. Love it. I mean even this morning,
- 1:03Speaker 1: like I logged out, I'm like, look at these people
- 1:05Speaker 1: are talking and we don't have to give them any prompts. Yes,
- 1:08Speaker 1: it's a delightful group. It is. What's not delightful though,
- 1:15Speaker 1: Let's just jump right into it. Okay. We received a
- 1:19Speaker 1: recent two star review and I have thought about this review.
- 1:25Speaker 1: It's been living rent free in my head. Tell me more?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Should we read it? Yeah? Clean, I'm a swift thirteen.
- 1:32Speaker 2: This is Megan.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Title. I tried. Ugh, this could easily be a five
- 1:39Speaker 1: star podcast, but unfortunately it falls way short. All y'all
- 1:43Speaker 1: have to do is some research. You know nothing about
- 1:45Speaker 1: the actors actresses in these movies you're bashing, but then
- 1:47Speaker 1: you're like, give us five stars? No, and who watches
- 1:51Speaker 1: Hallmark movies for the small details? You give a movie
- 1:54Speaker 1: two stars because one small thing distracted you in a
- 1:56Speaker 1: throwaway scene. What ridiculous it has to be? In response
- 2:00Speaker 1: to an older episode, don't you think I will admit
- 2:03Speaker 1: that in the early days of Girls on Hallmark we
- 2:05Speaker 1: didn't know Jack, I didn't know anything. We were just
- 2:09Speaker 1: out here. I thought, let's make a Hallmark podcast. It
- 2:12Speaker 1: wasn't even a Hallmark podcast. It was a bonus episode
- 2:15Speaker 1: on another podcast that we did. It was just a
- 2:18Speaker 1: let's have fun and it was fun. And it's been
- 2:22Speaker 1: over three years now and we know. Yeah, twenty twenty
- 2:27Speaker 1: popped out of my head. Really, yes, we started that
- 2:30Speaker 1: podcast October twenty twenty with jingle Bell of Bride, So
- 2:34Speaker 1: three years dozens of movies we've reviewed. If you listen
- 2:39Speaker 1: to those early episodes, we didn't know anything. If you
- 2:42Speaker 1: listen now, we do the research. We know these actors
- 2:45Speaker 1: a because we've watched a lot of movies. B Because
- 2:47Speaker 1: we know what they're up to. And we're doing the research.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Not just the actors, the directors, the costume designers, the writers.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I know. So I would agree that if you listen
- 2:56Speaker 1: to an early episode, you might be disappointed. If you're
- 2:59Speaker 1: still listening almost swifter thirteen, listen to a more recent
- 3:03Speaker 1: episode and see what you think. That being said, we
- 3:06Speaker 1: do focus on the small details. Now here's the thing.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Do some people watch Hallmark movies to just let them
- 3:12Speaker 1: wash over them totally? When I'm not reviewing the Hallmark movie.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I have many a time have had a Hallmark movie
- 3:19Speaker 1: on in the background or my husband's watching it, and
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm not paying attention. I'm not looking for the digit
- 3:24Speaker 1: see that. But watching a movie and reviewing a movie
- 3:28Speaker 1: are two different things. And I think if you I've
- 3:32Speaker 1: said this before, if you want someone to say I
- 3:36Speaker 1: loved this movie every time, then I review podcasts probably
- 3:40Speaker 1: isn't the place for you. Yeah, or there's probably a
- 3:42Speaker 1: podcast it'll give you that. It ain't us. I just
- 3:47Speaker 1: wish I knew what movie it was. It was probably
- 3:49Speaker 1: somebody who like loved Tyler Hines. It was probably like
- 3:55Speaker 1: an old episode. I was not kind to Tyler Hines
- 3:58Speaker 1: and his crazy haired you a couple of years ago. Go,
- 4:00Speaker 1: that's true. So maybe they just, you know, I said
- 4:04Speaker 1: something that offended somebody. I'm sorry. To be fair, I
- 4:08Speaker 1: have taken negative reviews in the past to heart in
- 4:12Speaker 1: a way. Like someone said on our other podcast, maybe
- 4:15Speaker 1: it was this one. All they do is scream, oh yeah,
- 4:17Speaker 1: it was this one. You're right, by the way, if
- 4:19Speaker 1: you're in Canada, we'd love for you to leave a
- 4:21Speaker 1: review to blur out the initial negative review this podcast
- 4:26Speaker 1: received from a Canadian listener. However, I like, first of all,
- 4:30Speaker 1: we're not going to stop yelling. That's how we talk.
- 4:32Speaker 1: We're passionate, that is right. However, I do make sure
- 4:36Speaker 1: that our levels are set so that if we're yelling
- 4:38Speaker 1: about something in a podcast, it's not going to blow
- 4:40Speaker 1: out your ears and your in your headphones. So I
- 4:43Speaker 1: can take constructive criticism, sure, so can I. I mean
- 4:46Speaker 1: I might get my feathers ruffled, absolutely, but once I
- 4:52Speaker 1: calm down. I really do try to, you know, make improvements.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Or in the early days of this podcast, we were
- 4:58Speaker 1: kindly told by a f podcaster that we should do
- 5:01Speaker 1: some more research. Yes, and ever since then, I've really
- 5:05Speaker 1: dug in. I know what DM, and which person you're
- 5:08Speaker 1: talking about, A person that we very much enjoy, yes
- 5:11Speaker 1: and respect, and took that note to heart. Yep, yep, yep.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So moving on, stay tuned for some Hallmark news and
- 5:20Speaker 1: notes because I really did some research this time around,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and just wait for it, haul out the holly lit up.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I got a real deep cut and some Hallmark news
- 5:32Speaker 1: and notes there. Oh, I can't wait. I'm really proud
- 5:36Speaker 1: of it. Well, it is time for Hallmark news and notes.
- 5:38Speaker 1: All right, give me what you got first? Up the
- 5:41Speaker 1: way home, we talked recently that they were filming. They
- 5:45Speaker 1: had set a premiere date for January twenty first. That
- 5:48Speaker 1: sets it almost exactly a year from its original premiere day. Exciting.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I'm excited. I can't wait. We will be covering that
- 5:55Speaker 1: way in via Instagram, DM or in our Facebook About
- 6:00Speaker 1: the format you'd like to see those episodes?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Take?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't remember, did we we did? Moment by
- 6:06Speaker 1: moment recaps of the entire series, which I think for
- 6:10Speaker 1: a series like Way Home worked, but you let us
- 6:13Speaker 1: know it didn't work for Ride when we recap that
- 6:17Speaker 1: it was a bit of a snoozer. Ride did get canceled.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I don't think we've talked about it here on the
- 6:21Speaker 1: Indeed it did. Wendy is not sorry to see that one.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I'm not. I'm not.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It was not a great show. As I said in
- 6:31Speaker 1: our group, I didn't hate it. I think they could
- 6:33Speaker 1: have done more with it. I'm not heartbroken to see
- 6:36Speaker 1: it gone. Next up, speaking of shows coming to Hallmark,
- 6:40Speaker 1: Lacey Shubert will headline a new unscripted series. It's called
- 6:45Speaker 1: Celebrations with Lazy Shubert, and according to the Deadline article,
- 6:50Speaker 1: it will feature the actress as she surprises kids, families,
- 6:53Speaker 1: and adults who are making a positive impact in their
- 6:55Speaker 1: communities by throwing them the celebration of a lifetime. This
- 7:00Speaker 1: will air on Hallmark Media's subscription service, which we know
- 7:05Speaker 1: as Hallmark Movies Now. Such a weird spot for it.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I will say that I think Hallmark Movies Now isn't
- 7:15Speaker 1: your best investment for watching Hallmark movies unless you just
- 7:21Speaker 1: want older stuff. Yeah, so I kind of think they
- 7:24Speaker 1: have been quicker to bring this year's movies to the platform,
- 7:27Speaker 1: But I do think they need to beef up that
- 7:29Speaker 1: service a little bit. And I think putting a series
- 7:33Speaker 1: with its number one star headlining is not a bad
- 7:36Speaker 1: way to do it. It's smart. But why not put it
- 7:39Speaker 1: on Peacock? Well, because Hallmark isn't I guess they're not
- 7:42Speaker 1: owning all the bread and butter from They just have
- 7:45Speaker 1: a distribution deal with Peacock. My second question is how
- 7:49Speaker 1: does she have the time to do this? Like I'm
- 7:51Speaker 1: trying to think she put it like five or six
- 7:53Speaker 1: movies this year, right, but in Hallmark world, that's ten
- 7:56Speaker 1: to fifteen weeks of work, true, fair point. The last
- 8:00Speaker 1: thing is is she known for her parties. She likes
- 8:03Speaker 1: to throw lazy Shubar considers herself a lifelong DIY enthusiast,
- 8:08Speaker 1: and fell in love with party planning while coming up
- 8:10Speaker 1: with creative ways to bring her daughter's birthday ideas to
- 8:13Speaker 1: life perfect. So that's how they marry those two ideas.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I like it. I like it. I like it. I
- 8:19Speaker 1: can't say i'll I don't know. I have a subscription
- 8:22Speaker 1: to H and Men so maybe I will watch it.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Should we recap it? I'm not sure that it calls
- 8:29Speaker 1: for that. I imagine there's gonna be some real tear jerker moments,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and I don't think they need me coming in hot
- 8:35Speaker 1: with my okay takes. Finally, in a recent Hallmark press release,
- 8:41Speaker 1: we got some numbers. Are you ready for it? Yeah?
- 8:44Speaker 1: Hallmark is just celebrating wins left, right and center, knocking
- 8:48Speaker 1: them out of the park. So A Merry Scottish Christmas
- 8:52Speaker 1: was the number one most watched movie on wait for
- 8:55Speaker 1: It AD supported cable, so I guess commercials yes, okay.
- 9:02Speaker 1: To date among households, total viewers, women in persons eighteen plus,
- 9:07Speaker 1: twenty five to fifty four, eighteen to forty nine, and
- 9:10Speaker 1: fifty five plus, Holiday Hotline was the number one most
- 9:17Speaker 1: watched entertainment cable programming among households, total viewers and women
- 9:21Speaker 1: in person's eighteen plus. This elevated Hallmark to be the
- 9:25Speaker 1: number one cable network of the week in total day, weekend,
- 9:28Speaker 1: total day, and weekend Prime among quite a few key demos.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Of course, this is pre Merry Thanksgiving Weekend right, which
- 9:40Speaker 1: had a lot of new premieres, so there's no way
- 9:43Speaker 1: Biltmore didn't just like knock it out of the car
- 9:45Speaker 1: tATu of Again, we're recording this on a Monday, and
- 9:49Speaker 1: we don't have Biltmore numbers yet. A world record Christmas
- 9:52Speaker 1: on Movies and Mysteries was the number one most watch
- 9:55Speaker 1: entertainment cable program on Thursday. That's a big win on
- 9:58Speaker 1: a Thursday. That is obviously it's entertainment cable, so sports
- 10:04Speaker 1: is not held in that number. And finally, listen to this.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Combine Hallmark Channels and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries have reached
- 10:11Speaker 1: twenty eight point four million unduplicated viewers this far in
- 10:15Speaker 1: the season. We got to point out that we are
- 10:18Speaker 1: in a declining cable viewership era. So for a cable
- 10:22Speaker 1: network to continue to grow and knock it out of
- 10:24Speaker 1: the park says really great things about the network. Yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I'm happy for them. I'm happy for them too. Let's
- 10:31Speaker 1: do a synopsis for a Mary Scottish Christmas sure thing.
- 10:35Speaker 1: When estranged siblings Lindsay and Brad Morgan traveled to Scotland
- 10:40Speaker 1: at Christmas to reunite with their mother Joe, A big
- 10:43Speaker 1: family seekert is revealed, starring Lacy Schabert and Scott Wolf.
- 10:49Speaker 1: This movie was written by Andrea Cannon and Audrey Schulman.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Now I will say that the IMDb did also credit
- 10:55Speaker 1: director Dustin Reiker as a writer. However, the Hallmark cash
- 10:59Speaker 1: sheet and the credits in the movie give writing credits
- 11:02Speaker 1: alone to Audrey and Andrea. Okay. Audrey Schulman has seven
- 11:06Speaker 1: writing credits, including every Time a Bell Rings, the twenty
- 11:09Speaker 1: seven Hour Day End as Luck would have a Delightful
- 11:12Speaker 1: Hallmark film. Andre Canning has twenty one writing credits, which
- 11:16Speaker 1: for Hallmark include A Parish Proposal, Christmas Bedtime Stories, and
- 11:21Speaker 1: South Beach Love. Megan really hated South Beach Love. If
- 11:24Speaker 1: I recall Cruk, I should go back and listen to
- 11:27Speaker 1: our review. It didn't hit for me, but it hit
- 11:29Speaker 1: for a lot of people. Yeah, we have big download
- 11:32Speaker 1: numbers on that episode. This movie was directed by Dustin Reikhart.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Dustin has twenty six directing credits. Previous Hallmark movies include
- 11:40Speaker 1: Where Are You Christmas? And Next Stop Christmas? Our Star
- 11:46Speaker 1: in a dual Star Weekend for Her or Week Excuse Me.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Lacey Schabert plays doctor Lindsay Morgan. She has one hundred
- 11:52Speaker 1: and seventy six acting credits. She shows no sign of
- 11:55Speaker 1: slowing down. Obviously, she has her new series coming out,
- 11:58Speaker 1: but she has appeared in six home movies this year alone,
- 12:02Speaker 1: in addition to voice work on Harriet the Spy and
- 12:04Speaker 1: Harley Quinn. So I think the answer to your question
- 12:06Speaker 1: is she just doesn't like to sit down. She likes
- 12:09Speaker 1: to work. Yeah, I'm into that too. I like to
- 12:12Speaker 1: work too. Scott Wolf plays Brad Morgan. Now you might
- 12:15Speaker 1: ask what has Bailey Salinger been doing since the year
- 12:18Speaker 1: two thousand and it's working steadily. He's had rules in
- 12:24Speaker 1: series like Everwood, The Nine, v, The Night Shift and Perception,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but most recently has been in sixty three episodes of
- 12:32Speaker 1: Nancy drew On the CW two round out his fifty
- 12:35Speaker 1: one acting credits. Nancy Drew Right, didn't that make you
- 12:39Speaker 1: want to go watch it? You're like, there's a CW
- 12:41Speaker 1: series with Scott Wolf. I know I'm gonna look for it.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I think I love a CW series. James Robinson plays
- 12:49Speaker 1: Mac Bell the Scottish Wawies. Awie has twenty eight acting credits.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Although this does appear to be his first Hallmark movie,
- 12:55Speaker 1: it isn't his first TV Christmas movie. He was in
- 12:58Speaker 1: Saving Christmas with Ash newbro which aired somewhere other than Hallmark,
- 13:03Speaker 1: that other channel.
- 13:04Speaker 2: No Oh.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Kelly Blaze play's wife Sarah Morgan. In addition to acting
- 13:11Speaker 1: Kelly as an accomplished singer, she starred in the Irish
- 13:14Speaker 1: Wrong Calm, The O'Briens and contributed two original songs to
- 13:19Speaker 1: the film to this film, to the O'Briens, Oh, My
- 13:23Speaker 1: Bad Friend of the show. Keith Costumes did the costume
- 13:25Speaker 1: for Lazy Shabert and Scott Wolf and finally a Mary.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Scottish Christmas was filmed on location, mostly in Ireland, with
- 13:34Speaker 1: some filming done in Scotland. The Dunn's Castle estate in
- 13:40Speaker 1: the Scottish Borders doubles as the fictional Glenn Crave Castle
- 13:44Speaker 1: and filming was done over the summer, wrapping in early
- 13:47Speaker 1: July twenty twenty three. Nice first impressions. I disagree with
- 13:53Speaker 1: many people about this movie. My brain is like working, working, working,
- 13:58Speaker 1: Where have I Okay, you disagree because people didn't like
- 14:01Speaker 1: this movie, Well, you're just gonna have to wait and see. Okay.
- 14:03Speaker 1: My first impression is what in the Fountain of Youth
- 14:06Speaker 1: is Scott Wolf drinking? I'll give missout, mister dimples. I mean,
- 14:13Speaker 1: he looks very young. I know he had like a
- 14:15Speaker 1: little bit of gray, which is fine, but like his
- 14:18Speaker 1: face still looks very young to me. Yeah, I don't
- 14:21Speaker 1: know how that works. So I personally haven't seen Scott
- 14:25Speaker 1: Wolf in a minute. Obviously, as we know from our
- 14:27Speaker 1: news and notes, he's been working, right, I kind of
- 14:31Speaker 1: forgot how much I like him. He's just such a
- 14:33Speaker 1: cuty on screen. The opinions about this movie were middle
- 14:40Speaker 1: of the road. They were more negative than positive. Okay,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I think a lot of people felt like it's not
- 14:49Speaker 1: fully baked. Okay, there were a lot of ideas here.
- 14:54Speaker 1: My feeling watching this movie. Did I think it was
- 14:56Speaker 1: the best Hallwark movie of this season? No, However, I
- 14:59Speaker 1: liked this movie, and I went into this movie prepared
- 15:02Speaker 1: to be disappointed, because, as you know you're listening to
- 15:04Speaker 1: this episode, a full week after this movie aired, we
- 15:06Speaker 1: were traveling, we adjusted our schedule. I had time to
- 15:09Speaker 1: see the Twitter talk and the Facebook group talk and
- 15:11Speaker 1: all of that, the Instagram stories. I was prepared to
- 15:14Speaker 1: be disappointed, and maybe that colored my view because I
- 15:18Speaker 1: went in ready to be at like Christmas at Castle
- 15:21Speaker 1: heart level, Yeah, which was a disappointment. Sure, it wasn't
- 15:24Speaker 1: that for me. So this was better than that movie
- 15:27Speaker 1: for sure. For sure, this is not the biggest wing
- 15:29Speaker 1: Hallmark is going to take this year. Of course, I
- 15:31Speaker 1: don't necessarily want Hallmark to be constantly reinventing the Wheel.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I want Hallmark to do what Hallmark does best, and
- 15:38Speaker 1: I want them to do it well. Sometimes I want
- 15:40Speaker 1: a movie like this. They're not all going to be
- 15:43Speaker 1: the Santa Summit. They're not all going to be time
- 15:46Speaker 1: traveling at the Beltmore Estate. They're not all going to
- 15:49Speaker 1: be Three Wise Men and a Baby where you get
- 15:51Speaker 1: the three hottest dudes on the network and a baby
- 15:55Speaker 1: and then everyone's ovaries explode. Sure this felt very classically
- 15:59Speaker 1: homark to me. Yeah, and I think it was done
- 16:04Speaker 1: fairly well. Also, you got the duke and duchess nonsense
- 16:08Speaker 1: like surprise you could be a Duke of Duchess if
- 16:11Speaker 1: you choose to claim the title. Aside from that, very
- 16:14Speaker 1: much of this story is relatable estranged family situation. There's
- 16:21Speaker 1: some secrets. I want to talk a little bit more
- 16:23Speaker 1: about the mom keeping some things from her children, dealing
- 16:26Speaker 1: with infertility, and decisions about our family. I love my job,
- 16:31Speaker 1: but I don't love all the parts of my job,
- 16:33Speaker 1: how many things maybe well, sure, but I do think
- 16:37Speaker 1: those storylines, a lot of it felt very relatable. Sure,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I agree with that. I agree with most of what
- 16:45Speaker 1: you're saying. Let me piggyback on what you were saying
- 16:49Speaker 1: about how we're reviewing this like a week later than usual. Yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: it is hard to not read the other opinions on it.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So I kind of went in, I'm going, oh, this
- 17:01Speaker 1: is going to be a very middle of the road movie.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And for me, it was a very middle of the
- 17:04Speaker 1: road movie. It doesn't mean I didn't like it. I
- 17:09Speaker 1: enjoyed the acting, the story a little bit. I think
- 17:14Speaker 1: there's some things to be picked apart about it, and
- 17:17Speaker 1: I'll get to that in my wish. But I think
- 17:19Speaker 1: there was so much hype build around it because of
- 17:22Speaker 1: like reuniting the party of five actors, right, Lacy and Scott,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and I do think those two together had like a
- 17:32Speaker 1: very nice natural rhythm to their acting. It made me wonder.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I was like, does it just click for them again,
- 17:38Speaker 1: you know, like when you see a friend and in
- 17:40Speaker 1: a long time. I played the siblings for years, right,
- 17:44Speaker 1: So I was very interested in that. I just it
- 17:47Speaker 1: was okay. You know me, I don't like a royal movie,
- 17:49Speaker 1: so I I did stick it out and watched all thing.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Did not fall asleep. It was just very middle of
- 17:55Speaker 1: the road for me. That's not that far off from
- 17:59Speaker 1: my feelings about it either. Okay, do you have any
- 18:01Speaker 1: specifics of what you liked? Well? I love Lacey. She
- 18:06Speaker 1: shevert and you might recall early in this podcast, I
- 18:10Speaker 1: was not a Lacy fan. No, you didn't like her
- 18:13Speaker 1: at all. On early days, I would avoid her movies.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Let's see, I apologize. I just she gets better and
- 18:21Speaker 1: better for me every time I see her on screen.
- 18:23Speaker 1: She's so comfortable to watch. We had a because of
- 18:27Speaker 1: the timing. I watched two of her movies back to back,
- 18:31Speaker 1: and I just I just love her. She really has
- 18:36Speaker 1: earned that Queen of Christmas place for me, and it's
- 18:39Speaker 1: not just by the numbers. Will Kemp what a delight
- 18:44Speaker 1: to see him on screen with her. This was not
- 18:47Speaker 1: a surprise because I knew from social media that he
- 18:50Speaker 1: was the cameo in this movie. But that whole scene
- 18:54Speaker 1: was amazing, so fun, really well executed with the dancing bits.
- 19:00Speaker 1: He's so I just love him. I think he and
- 19:04Speaker 1: Lacey are perhaps the best romantic pairing I've ever seen
- 19:09Speaker 1: for the two of them. But you know what, that's
- 19:11Speaker 1: really funny because they've only been in two movies together,
- 19:14Speaker 1: right were they're a pair? Of course? They were in
- 19:17Speaker 1: that Waltz movie, which I really enjoyed. And then they
- 19:20Speaker 1: were in that Deadly Tango movie that I don't think
- 19:23Speaker 1: I watched from the summer. I think you did watch it.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I don't think we reviewed it. We didn't review it,
- 19:29Speaker 1: but they have it such an appeal together. Yes, this
- 19:33Speaker 1: scene I thought was really clever, the way it was written,
- 19:38Speaker 1: like with the whole like you look familiar, it just
- 19:41Speaker 1: I thought it was cute. And then the whole dancing stuff,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I just I liked it all. I did too her
- 19:46Speaker 1: I only know how to Walton Tango adorable mm hmm, yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 1: I loved that. Oh I wrote down here poor Mac
- 19:51Speaker 1: would never stand a chance with Lindsay if Will's character
- 19:55Speaker 1: wasn't married to Mac's sister. Max is super wowe. I
- 19:58Speaker 1: think he is too, but I I have some wishes
- 20:01Speaker 1: about him. I love their childhood story about the dirty reindeer,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and then that they like revisited they were drinking and
- 20:11Speaker 1: I looked upon pintress. I was like, is there such
- 20:13Speaker 1: a thing as a dirty reindeer? Which sounds like an
- 20:15Speaker 1: alcoholic drink?
- 20:15Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 20:16Speaker 1: Me, but not even pinterss like even pulled up anything
- 20:19Speaker 1: about a dirty reindeer? Do you remember what's in it?
- 20:21Speaker 1: Like everything it was like cookie crumbs and uh, we
- 20:25Speaker 1: make candy. Oh no, that's girls. It sounds disgusting and like,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I don't know if I would drink it, but I
- 20:32Speaker 1: just thought it was very cute. Keith Costumes made the
- 20:36Speaker 1: dress for Lacey. I think he only did costumes for
- 20:40Speaker 1: Lacey and Scott in this movie. But this dress at
- 20:44Speaker 1: the end. I loved the neckline on it so much.
- 20:47Speaker 1: It wasn't just a straight across strapless dress. It came
- 20:50Speaker 1: up a little bit like near the armpits. I don't
- 20:53Speaker 1: know anything about clothes other than it's a pullover or
- 20:55Speaker 1: a hoodie, you know what I mean? Yes, But it
- 20:58Speaker 1: just was so pretty and it was like it is
- 21:00Speaker 1: dark green. I just thought it was lovely, just lovely.
- 21:04Speaker 1: It was a showstopper. She had a couple of coats.
- 21:06Speaker 1: She had a solid green coat and then she had
- 21:07Speaker 1: a green plaid coat. As she was leaving that Keith
- 21:11Speaker 1: costume says he loves a coat. Moment the costuming was
- 21:15Speaker 1: it was p plus and then finally, I do love
- 21:18Speaker 1: I fast forward one year at the end, Yeah, it
- 21:21Speaker 1: always makes me so happy, and I was happy to
- 21:23Speaker 1: see that Bred and Sarah had had a baby. That
- 21:25Speaker 1: baby was older than however old it could possibly be.
- 21:29Speaker 1: It was a big baby even really it could be
- 21:33Speaker 1: his three months and that baby was a big baby,
- 21:36Speaker 1: was a year old. All right, what did you wish for?
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm guessing maybe you didn't have mini wishes because you
- 21:41Speaker 1: liked it so much. I have a question in place
- 21:44Speaker 1: of a wish. Okay, do does mom mm hm oh
- 21:51Speaker 1: her children a relationship with a family she didn't have
- 21:54Speaker 1: a relationship with. That is really interesting. Old On a second,
- 21:59Speaker 1: I thought I had the same note in my question here.
- 22:01Speaker 1: It is would you be mad at your mom for
- 22:03Speaker 1: not telling you about your royal roots? I have thought
- 22:06Speaker 1: about this a lot since watching this movie, and I
- 22:10Speaker 1: understand Lindsey and Brad feeling like, wait, we have this
- 22:13Speaker 1: whole life, and not even so much the royalty part,
- 22:15Speaker 1: but we had an uncle. We had this whole world
- 22:18Speaker 1: that we didn't know about. But mom left the family
- 22:22Speaker 1: because she didn't want the life that she would have
- 22:25Speaker 1: had to live, and as a result, became estranged from
- 22:29Speaker 1: them and didn't have a relationship with her brother. That's
- 22:32Speaker 1: not that unusual of a storyline. Obviously, the Dutchess part
- 22:35Speaker 1: is nonsense, but plenty of families don't have relationships and
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's not always a big dramatic moment. It's like I
- 22:41Speaker 1: stepped away from the family because what they wanted and
- 22:45Speaker 1: I wanted weren't the same. In our relationship didn't continue,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and her relationship with her brother was a casualty of that.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Her brother was just kind of an innocent bystander and
- 22:55Speaker 1: right of that. But then at what point does she
- 22:58Speaker 1: owe her children that information? If all, I don't think
- 23:01Speaker 1: she does. There's no there's no big sit down like, oh,
- 23:05Speaker 1: you have to come to Scotland right now and we
- 23:07Speaker 1: have to talk about this and now it's going to
- 23:09Speaker 1: rock your world. I don't think she owes them. Yeah,
- 23:13Speaker 1: and it would be at a detriment to her because
- 23:15Speaker 1: she didn't have a relationship. So now she's got to
- 23:17Speaker 1: be like, look, it's really painful for me, but now
- 23:20Speaker 1: I have to introduce you to that person.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Family. You don't know what you don't know, and family
- 23:28Speaker 1: is a lot more than just the people your blood
- 23:30Speaker 1: related to, right, Okay, I mentioned this earlier. I do
- 23:34Speaker 1: think there are a few things that can be picked
- 23:36Speaker 1: about a part about this movie. Here's my number one.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I have four the resolution over keeping the came at
- 23:46Speaker 1: warp speed at the end. The end of this movie,
- 23:50Speaker 1: so many things like tied up, but like too quickly,
- 23:53Speaker 1: too too quickly. I just thought it was like overly
- 23:56Speaker 1: rushed and condensed, and I thought like you could have
- 23:58Speaker 1: done without some scenes earlier, like remember they went whiskey
- 24:02Speaker 1: tasting and then the whole dancing scene when will Kimp comes.
- 24:06Speaker 1: But then thinking about it, I was like, they can't
- 24:08Speaker 1: cut those things because the whole tie in was how
- 24:13Speaker 1: the Morgans were of the people in that town. They
- 24:17Speaker 1: were one of them, So you can't cut all that
- 24:19Speaker 1: backstory where they're like immersed in this town. Yeah, to
- 24:24Speaker 1: have like a slower resolution at the end, So it
- 24:27Speaker 1: makes sense to me. I just it just came really fast.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I had envisioned a different resolution, which was what well,
- 24:35Speaker 1: when she's in the doctor's office with max mom and
- 24:37Speaker 1: Max her mom, his mom is talking about how there's
- 24:41Speaker 1: more work than she can handle and she doesn't love
- 24:43Speaker 1: the paperwork. I was thinking, well, obviously the solution is
- 24:46Speaker 1: for them to co run this practice together. Of course
- 24:49Speaker 1: I thought the same thing, And then they both talked
- 24:50Speaker 1: about how much they hated paperwork. Well, her brother's this
- 24:53Speaker 1: tax attorney. All dude does his paperwork. I can take
- 24:57Speaker 1: over that portion and then they can co run this.
- 25:02Speaker 1: You know, MAC can kind of take over the day
- 25:03Speaker 1: to day operation of the castle of the castle while
- 25:06Speaker 1: they're overseeing it, right, And that felt more cohesive to me.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Then stop the car, I'll help you run this. But
- 25:16Speaker 1: with what does that look like? She says? Oh, I
- 25:18Speaker 1: figured out how to run my own practice. I can
- 25:20Speaker 1: figure this out too. But what does that mean she's
- 25:22Speaker 1: just going to run the day to day There wasn't
- 25:24Speaker 1: She didn't actually discuss like I'm gonna work as a
- 25:27Speaker 1: doctor here, right, He didn't discuss what actual They were
- 25:31Speaker 1: just going to run this together and be siblings. Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 1: And I thought too, like they don't need the both
- 25:37Speaker 1: of them there. If she wanted to go back to
- 25:40Speaker 1: America and be a doctor, she could, and then the
- 25:42Speaker 1: brother could have stayed there with his wife and they
- 25:44Speaker 1: could have been whatever. They are duke and duchess, you know,
- 25:47Speaker 1: and they can and mac can still run the castle
- 25:50Speaker 1: or whatever. Yes, and they could still repair their brother's
- 25:54Speaker 1: sister relationship without living in the same place exactly. I
- 25:57Speaker 1: just thought, like, it's not they're not both needed there.
- 26:00Speaker 1: One decision does not hinge on the other. Like if
- 26:03Speaker 1: he wanted to stay, she didn't have to. If she
- 26:05Speaker 1: wanted to stay, he didn't have to. They don't both
- 26:08Speaker 1: need to stay. You know. I don't like royal things,
- 26:10Speaker 1: but this is this how like royal lineage works in
- 26:15Speaker 1: terms of like there is no one in the royal
- 26:18Speaker 1: family to be named next whatever, and so they just
- 26:23Speaker 1: give it to two random people who are blood related
- 26:26Speaker 1: but are Americans. Yeah, he saw how the royal family
- 26:31Speaker 1: welcomed an American to their family. So the Scottish people
- 26:36Speaker 1: are gonna be like, yeah, these two like Americans, no problem. Well, okay,
- 26:40Speaker 1: there's lot's going on here. One. I don't think that
- 26:43Speaker 1: this is how it works. But he is the next
- 26:46Speaker 1: in line. He is the next blood relative in line,
- 26:49Speaker 1: he and the sister. So I don't think that's like, yes,
- 26:52Speaker 1: he's an American, but he's an American member of this family,
- 26:56Speaker 1: not some rando American that they swept in off the
- 26:58Speaker 1: street while he was on a tour. But I there
- 27:01Speaker 1: was some pushback that this is not how the titling
- 27:05Speaker 1: and the lineage works. It's too complicated for me. I
- 27:07Speaker 1: don't fully understand it, though you might know. I know,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I can never because I don't ever understand it. It's
- 27:13Speaker 1: all very complicated, okay, Like you know, when Queen Elizabeth
- 27:18Speaker 1: was the queen, her husband his title it was never king.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Like when she was the queen, her husband was not
- 27:24Speaker 1: the king. But when William becomes king, Kate will become
- 27:29Speaker 1: a queen. Oh, Like it works differently, isn't that odd?
- 27:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 27:33Speaker 1: That is weird. I don't understand it. I don't think
- 27:35Speaker 1: it's accurate, but very simplified for the purposes of the movie.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Very simplified, right, yes, Because isn't there like a you've
- 27:44Speaker 1: seen Princess Diary, she's Princess of Genovia and she's never
- 27:47Speaker 1: met her grandmother. As I was ready my notes, I
- 27:50Speaker 1: was like, well there was the Princess Diaries. That's my Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I mean, they are definitely in line for the titles.
- 28:00Speaker 1: It's just weird to me, not that weird, I guess,
- 28:03Speaker 1: but it's just like, oh, okay, we have this opening.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Would you like to be duke and duchess? Yeah, but
- 28:10Speaker 1: I don't think anything comes with it. There's no like
- 28:12Speaker 1: actual leadership. They're just running the manor they're not like lawmakers. Okay,
- 28:18Speaker 1: now here is what I could not understand. Lindsey seemed
- 28:22Speaker 1: to be upset that Brad decided to stay and become
- 28:25Speaker 1: the duke. M you didn't catch that. I couldn't decide
- 28:31Speaker 1: how she felt. I thought, like, how does this decision
- 28:34Speaker 1: affect her? It really doesn't. And I thought then that
- 28:38Speaker 1: maybe she was pulling so hard for Mac to like,
- 28:41Speaker 1: obviously Max's not gonna become the duke, but she wanted
- 28:44Speaker 1: Mac to have the job, like she cared more about
- 28:48Speaker 1: Mac than she did about her brother's happiness. Because truly,
- 28:51Speaker 1: like Brad was very unhappy with his job. To me,
- 28:55Speaker 1: it seemed like he hated his wife. Yeah, so that
- 28:59Speaker 1: I don't know why she was upset. My take on it,
- 29:04Speaker 1: as a person who's had a relationship of envy with
- 29:08Speaker 1: the sibling, I thought she was like, oh, wait, you're
- 29:11Speaker 1: just gonna take it and not discuss it with me,
- 29:12Speaker 1: because I originally thought maybe they couldn't both do it. Yeah,
- 29:16Speaker 1: then it became clear that in this however this works,
- 29:20Speaker 1: they both could do it. I wonder if she felt
- 29:23Speaker 1: like left out of the decision, or if she felt like, oh,
- 29:27Speaker 1: now we're repairing our relationship and you're going to be
- 29:29Speaker 1: across the ocean and that's going to be complicated, or
- 29:33Speaker 1: if she felt like a little bit of obligation, like oh,
- 29:39Speaker 1: you're the better kid now taking over. I don't know.
- 29:43Speaker 1: It wasn't answered, Okay, moving on, I thought Mac was
- 29:49Speaker 1: giving Lindsay a real hard cell on moving to Glenn
- 29:52Speaker 1: Crave Glynn Crave. He was so smitten with her. Yet
- 29:58Speaker 1: I did not find them to have a whole lot
- 29:59Speaker 1: of caire.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Hmmm.
- 30:02Speaker 1: He just was very, very nice to look at. But yeah,
- 30:06Speaker 1: that makes up for a lot. It's it's no will Camp.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And finally, I did not love Brad's wife, Sarah, not
- 30:14Speaker 1: the actress. The actress was fine. I didn't like her
- 30:17Speaker 1: character so much. She had a ton of opinions about
- 30:21Speaker 1: like staying at Glenn Crave. I was like, it's not
- 30:24Speaker 1: your place. Maybe you're do you disagree? No? Not, I
- 30:28Speaker 1: don't mean she's married to Brad. But this is Brad's
- 30:31Speaker 1: family's thing, right, I don't know her decision. Her opinion
- 30:38Speaker 1: certainly is important when they're like deciding if they're going
- 30:41Speaker 1: to move there as a couple and kind of like
- 30:43Speaker 1: start over, But I don't know. And did you notice
- 30:48Speaker 1: that like the mom was always saddled with Sarah, Like
- 30:53Speaker 1: the two siblings would go off to do their own
- 30:55Speaker 1: thing and be like the mom and you two are
- 30:58Speaker 1: having married in troubles, you just keep Ellen and your
- 31:00Speaker 1: wife totally totally anyway, that's those are the things I
- 31:05Speaker 1: wished for, So it's time for you to see that.
- 31:09Speaker 1: And this is what I thought was interesting. Obviously, we
- 31:14Speaker 1: have Lacy and Scott who starred in Party of five.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I have not seen that show in twenty something years.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I watched the reboot, which was fine. Oh there was
- 31:24Speaker 1: only one season of that reboot. It was really good too.
- 31:27Speaker 1: It was a nice take on the rebu I mean,
- 31:30Speaker 1: I have a very basic memory of this show, like
- 31:34Speaker 1: I'm not holding onto all the details. However, there were
- 31:36Speaker 1: some Party five Easter eggs thrown in, yes, like they
- 31:41Speaker 1: go to the bar. Challengers loved it, and the bartender's
- 31:43Speaker 1: name is Charlie I did not catch that though. And
- 31:48Speaker 1: Brad's wife name is Sarah, which of course was Jennifer
- 31:50Speaker 1: lef Hewitt's character's name on the show. Also, they say
- 31:54Speaker 1: I love you the most. I'm pretty sure that's a
- 31:59Speaker 1: line from the show. Oh no, that show is real depressing.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a show I would want
- 32:04Speaker 1: to go back and watch. I did see some reviews
- 32:08Speaker 1: from people saying like, oh, I've never seen the show,
- 32:10Speaker 1: so those took me out of the moment on Land. Yeah,
- 32:13Speaker 1: I mean I understand that they don't Land. They didn't
- 32:15Speaker 1: feel distracting to me, and it wasn't like you needed
- 32:19Speaker 1: to understand that Sallengers was the name of their family
- 32:21Speaker 1: and therefore that wasn't my feeling. Tell me some of
- 32:24Speaker 1: her did to see that. Did you peep Keith costumes
- 32:27Speaker 1: at the beginning of this movie? Oh my gosh. I
- 32:30Speaker 1: saw on Twitter him talking about it, and then I
- 32:34Speaker 1: didn't see it. So it is in the scene where
- 32:37Speaker 1: Scott and Lazy come to the castle and Hamish is like,
- 32:41Speaker 1: like in that small group, he's standing there in the foyer. Yeah,
- 32:45Speaker 1: it was only like six of them, less than that,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I think, but he's like in the back, big, huge grin,
- 32:51Speaker 1: he's got a selfie stick. Yeah, I'll back and watch.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I totally messaged him. I was like, is this see you?
- 32:58Speaker 1: It was so fun to see. Oh I love it. Yeah,
- 33:02Speaker 1: that was really cool. Another did you see that? Is
- 33:05Speaker 1: when the butler gives the mom a letter from the
- 33:07Speaker 1: dead brother. She's like in her bedroom there's a stack
- 33:12Speaker 1: of vinyl albums on the floor, like she's just been
- 33:14Speaker 1: listening to them, which is like super weird. On the
- 33:17Speaker 1: top is a Donna summer album and it's called Live
- 33:21Speaker 1: and More. And I thought, what an interesting choice, Like,
- 33:25Speaker 1: whoever dressed the set, why did they choose a disco
- 33:29Speaker 1: record that she was just so happened to be listening to.
- 33:32Speaker 1: It was just one of the ones in the Bargain
- 33:34Speaker 1: record band probably right, so random. And finally, did you
- 33:41Speaker 1: notice the awful pixelated painting of the family. Yeah, it
- 33:47Speaker 1: like hurt my eyes to look at it. I was like,
- 33:49Speaker 1: what is happening there? I feel like AI could have
- 33:53Speaker 1: done a better job. Who's doing this stuff?
- 33:55Speaker 3: Well?
- 33:56Speaker 1: I just it felt like obviously the point was they
- 33:59Speaker 1: weren't supposed to immediately be able to recognize their mother.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I guess, okay, I think I would recognize my mother
- 34:07Speaker 1: if she were in a portrait, but I agree, And
- 34:11Speaker 1: then they did it again on the very end. I
- 34:14Speaker 1: was like, what anyway, all right, are you ready to
- 34:17Speaker 1: rate this guy three and a half stars? I gave
- 34:19Speaker 1: it three and a half stars as well, So that's
- 34:21Speaker 1: so interesting that you really liked it. And I thought
- 34:23Speaker 1: it was very middle of the road. Three and a
- 34:26Speaker 1: half right down the middle. I mean, technically two and
- 34:29Speaker 1: a half is down the middle of a five star rating.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Hey, I know a sudden day.
