- 0:12Speaker 1: what's up, welcome back.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's the north florida sports network.
- 0:16Speaker 1: The nba finals are set, so I got the basketball guy, justin he's back to talk about it.
- 0:27Speaker 1: His prediction is dead on.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Boston and Dallas will meet in the NBA finals.
- 0:38Speaker 2: People need to just start listening to my predictions and running straight to the goddamn fourth book at this point.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I know I mean dude.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Stephen A Smith, brian Lindhorst where are you all at?
- 0:47Speaker 2: None of you all picked these finals.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That's right.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Nobody picked these finals.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I picked these finals.
- 0:53Speaker 2: These Mavs are the sixth lowest seed ever to make an NBA finals.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And I called it.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I know that's a good pick man.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Luka.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I've been saying it for a minute man luca is the best player in the nba and it's not close well he's making that type of run.
- 1:12Speaker 1: He wins uh western conference mvp.
- 1:16Speaker 1: As they beat the timberwolves, it wasn't close from the jump, luca was out to make a statement.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Um it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It feels like the timberwolves were happy with just not getting swept yeah, it really did.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I mean because, like the, every game was competitive except for that last one.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Like even, yes, even the games, the first three games they lost, they put up a fight.
- 1:43Speaker 1: No, dude.
- 1:46Speaker 2: It was like I was already ready to say when I assumed the sweep was going to happen.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I was already ready to come on to the podcast and say it was the most entertaining and most competitive sweep in history.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because every game came down to the wire.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I mean dude.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Every one of these games, me and you have been texting back and forth during the game freaking out.
- 2:08Speaker 1: This one was over in the end of the first quarter.
- 2:11Speaker 1: It didn't even take that long.
- 2:15Speaker 1: It really showed the killer instinct Dallas did and you know he's done that throughout this playoffs.
- 2:20Speaker 1: They haven't been like perfect, but every time he has you, he has not his best performance, for lack of a better word.
- 2:31Speaker 1: The next game he answers right back and gets the win.
- 2:37Speaker 2: And even more so.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Dude, I remember I was saying this going into the second round and actually again going into this round.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Luka hadn't played his best ball in the playoffs until recently.
- 2:51Speaker 2: He's gotten progressively better each round on this playoff run and if I'm the Celtics, I am freaking terrified of that fact.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Well, the advantage Boston will have is they have multiple guys that can.
- 3:06Speaker 1: They can run at him and but right now, I mean it's a compelling matchup If Porzingis comes back, you have both guys.
- 3:17Speaker 1: You have guys on both teams going against their former teams, but the the big matchup is Kyrie going back boston where he went, and it didn't work out at all.
- 3:27Speaker 1: It was a complete just shit show when he was in boston, nothing, god, it was I mean it was just not a good matchup.
- 3:36Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of fans in boston, not big fans of krie Irving, understandably, so they're going to be out.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I don't know if the Porzingis hate is going to be as bad in Dallas?
- 3:55Speaker 1: No, they don't really care, but is he going to be able to return?
- 3:58Speaker 1: Do you mess up with the?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Does that affect the lineups that you've been going with with Horford starting?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Are you going to, if he comes back, are you going to bring him off the bench?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Oh no, if he comes back, you start him automatically.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Dude, because here's matchup-wise, I'll get into some X's and O's with you, you know, because my favorite team is the Heat and Eric Spolster is the greatest coach ever.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So I understand X's and o's, apparently.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Um, but with al horford al horford, because he's not al horford of the atlanta hawks um, he's a huge liability in the pick and roll game.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and if al horford is in your starting lineup without and you're bringing chris stops off the bench, that is a bad, bad move, because they will pick and roll him to death and Luka will drain 30 foot threes all day and you know what's impressed me is you saw the difference that this young guy has made.
- 4:57Speaker 1: is that Derek Lively?
- 4:58Speaker 1: You saw he's out in game four Minnesota wins and then he comes back and it was over.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Like he is playing above his age.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I mean you don't see rookies like this have this kind of impact this late in the playoffs on these type of teams.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And he's a difference maker because he's making plays from the post and oh, dude, he's.
- 5:21Speaker 2: He's fun to watch.
- 5:23Speaker 2: He's hitting.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Kyrie and in stride he's hitting Luca in stride for threes.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Those, those two guys are, don't have to be the playmakers all the time, and which they are, I mean, and then when he's a difference maker and you got him with the other gafford, I think, and yep gafford and then you got pj washington and jones and they and derrick jones jr.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Man, I mean, I've been a fan of derrick jones jr.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I was mad when, uh, when, the heat didn't bring him back a couple years ago that is ever since the trade.
- 5:53Speaker 1: It's been a good lineup, but boston has guys to throw at luca and kairi.
- 5:58Speaker 1: This is going to be a fun series, um it will see.
- 6:03Speaker 2: You know what I do?
- 6:04Speaker 2: I don't see that they have.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I've heard other guys, uh like on espn, say exactly that, uh, the only guy that they can throw at luca or kairi is derrick white.
- 6:15Speaker 2: He's the only one I mean jaylen brown.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'd put jaylen on kairi kairi will torch, I know, but you got to do somebody and I that's where, and then I would run derrick white.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I mean she's the problem, lucas, not what you do.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, luca, that that's the thing, dude.
- 6:34Speaker 1: It doesn't matter, like if you throw a guard on him or anybody that's just even has height.
- 6:39Speaker 1: There's not many people that you have to put a big man on him pretty much.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And this is where.
- 6:45Speaker 1: This is where Orford might be able to like.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Oh God, no, orford would get destroyed.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Orford would get destroyed.
- 6:52Speaker 2: A healthy Chris Stapps A healthy Chris Stapps might be.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I mean, you'd be essentially giving the three.
- 6:57Speaker 1: That was a statement game where he's just in control.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Eight of 11 and 20 points in the first quarter.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And he can do whatever he wants on the court and when he's playing he's got his teammates playing with him.
- 7:11Speaker 1: He's taking all the responsibility.
- 7:15Speaker 1: He's stepping up as a leader.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And then you have Kyrie's's playing kairi's kairi yeah, he's matured yeah he's finally matured dude and nobody has been a bigger critic of as kairi as I have, man I mean like I kind of hated kairi for years.
- 7:32Speaker 2: This was a ballsy move, you know, because I remember saying it last year, dude, I remember talking about it.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I was like what the hell are they thinking?
- 7:39Speaker 2: This is a stupid trade talking trash.
- 7:41Speaker 1: They lost jalen brunson, you know, and and I was talking trash.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I was talking trash but they were like well, you just get another guy who's going to dominate the ball, how's this ever going to work?
- 7:52Speaker 1: But it's working out beautifully in that it's because kairi's finally matured and I believe that the coach having having a guy like Jason Kidd where regardless is Kyrie Irving's at the age where Jason Kidd was playing, when he was a kid yeah, right, so this is a guy that was balling out you in in, jason Kidd's not.
- 8:15Speaker 1: He's not that kind of a guy.
- 8:16Speaker 1: He's has kind of a mindset typical of like a Charlie Ward.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I'm not saying that, but he's not selfish.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He's going to work out for other guys.
- 8:25Speaker 1: He's always when he did that when he played he wasn't a good shooter but he figured out how to shoot because he didn't want to shoot.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You just made me realize something that I hadn't thought of yet.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Jason Kidd and Kyrie's careers paralleled each other.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Where kid came out with all this hype, everybody kind of thought he had he, he was a bust type player.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You know Phoenix shipped them off.
- 8:52Speaker 2: You know he ends up going to go into the nets and reviving his career and Kyrie's reviving his career late in his career too.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah, had had.
- 9:01Speaker 2: No, I mean, their games are completely different, but their, their career arc is kind of paralleled well.
- 9:06Speaker 1: They matched it up well with the, the compliments to them, with the young youth, the big guys who just pj washington man, they just got a system where they're running everything from the middle it's pick and rolls.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Dude, it's old school basketball you can't double it and then you have the guys set up in the corner where the guys set up for the lob.
- 9:28Speaker 2: It's going to be hard to stop what you're going to have to do if you're Boston is, uh, honestly, on the pick and roll, I say I eat and I can't believe.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I believe I realized this a second ago when we were just talking about defensive matchups.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Actually, what you do is you put Drew Holiday on Kyrie and then you rotate Tatum Brown and Derek White on Luka and you switch every pick and roll.
- 9:57Speaker 2: You try and get it set up.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Obviously, obviously, you're not going to be able to.
- 10:00Speaker 2: But if you've got it set up to where three of your guys are D and up on Kyrie or Luca in the pick and roll, then you can switch the pick and roll.
- 10:10Speaker 2: That's like what Miami does with their defense.
- 10:12Speaker 2: What makes Miami's defense so good is they can always switch on pick and rolls.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And if you can switch on pick and rolls, you're going to prevent, like that backside pass on the pick and roll that kicks it out to the corner.
- 10:23Speaker 2: You're going to prevent a lot of the lobs.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I think the key is going to be on the other side what Dallas can do on defense.
- 10:30Speaker 1: They've been playing a lot better defense.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And they got a lot of length.
- 10:35Speaker 2: They got a lot of length on defense when Luca and Kyrie can decide when they've turned it on.
- 10:40Speaker 1: They decided they want to play.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Well, Luca still can't play D.
- 10:43Speaker 2: No, but he's trying, he's trying, he's trying, he's trying.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm telling you, man, that matters.
- 10:50Speaker 1: It does.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Defense and rebounding is all about effort.
- 10:54Speaker 1: So I mean, when they're doing that and they have, as Stan Van Gutting put it in the broadcast, the most talented offensive backcourt in the history of the game- I still think it's the Splash Brothers, yeah but clay and stuff, clay and stuff at their height.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Dude was, but they were more unstoppable they, they relied upon a system.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Those guys are not one-on-one players I know a different style, but I think this is more of just getting buckets the most in like skillful backcourt.
- 11:35Speaker 1: It's hard to argue Skillful.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I'll give you that.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Guys, get out of the way, just get out of the way and let them do their thing, and that's not Thompson.
- 11:47Speaker 2: No, no, but best offense, overall offense.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I'll take Steph and Clay All right.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Well, I would put them as best shooting backcourt.
- 11:57Speaker 2: But yeah, I say well and like you said also, and you just said, the most skillful backcourt versus the best shooting backcourt is what we're talking about.
- 12:07Speaker 2: So what?
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'm saying offensive like overall, just more talented offense like overall game.
- 12:13Speaker 2: They had the most talented offensive backcourt they can do the most things like yeah, I would say, because I would say stephan kairi, you could almost say, is a wash, and I'd take luca over clay.
- 12:23Speaker 2: So you know what?
- 12:24Speaker 2: You just convinced me.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I'm on, I'm on board, all right, yeah, yep, you just convinced me here we go.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I mean, you just convinced me, it's that simple, man.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I mean, hey man I mean, you had it.
- 12:34Speaker 1: You, you were all over the Dallas train.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I think you went over the logic, saying that I don't know, but I know that you weren't some like huge Dallas owner but you believe in Luka and you were saying that logic brought to you In the NBA, the best player usually wins it.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and I've been on Luka's nuts for two years.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Right usually wins it.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and I've I've been on luca's nuts for two years, right, and boston doesn't, boston's the best team, oh yeah, their, their depth, their depth is, I mean, they go this is going to be interesting matchup because I think mavs and six mavs have the best like over when they're playing at their best.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Of all the players on both teams, mavs are the top two guys exactly, I'll take them over.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Jaylen, I mean talk about a guy like in kairi where I mean you could just a couple years ago I mean, who knows if he's even gonna play, but the guy yeah, he was about to be a c.
- 13:26Speaker 1: He was about to be russell westbrook the guy can do whatever he wants, it seems, when he when he wants to and, uh, when he's shooting the ball.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Well they're, you're not beating them yeah, and and I trust.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I trust kairi in the clutch more than I trust anybody in boston right in the clutch.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yeah, jayden's gonna shrink, jayden's gonna shrink and jaylen brown does have the skill set.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I don't mind his His mind.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Jalen Brown has the.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Jalen's the alpha on that team.
- 14:00Speaker 1: And he's more of the pippin and Jordan.
- 14:04Speaker 2: He's supposed to be more of the pippin, but Tatum doesn't have that killer instinct.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Tatum shrinks in big opportunities man.
- 14:12Speaker 2: He's been doing it for years now.
- 14:14Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 14:15Speaker 2: We're going to see what happens.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I don't trust him.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I don't trust him, dude.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I mean, I've seen mediocre Heat teams whoop the shit out of the Celtics too many times.
- 14:25Speaker 1: You got two guys on Dallas that you can have the ball in their hands and you trust them, and they're the two best on the court.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Right as closers.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Right as closers, yeah, so that's going to come.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I mean, the games are close.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I like Dallas.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Because Boston can't win close games.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Boston will run them out of the gym once or twice in the series, but I think I'm going.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Dallas in this.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I know you are.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm sticking with it.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Dude, dallas in six, wow, okay.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Dallas in six, wow Okay.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Dallas and six.
- 14:57Speaker 2: They don't want to go game seven in the Garden, even though just last year I watched Boston crumble in a game seven in the Garden against Miami.
- 15:03Speaker 1: They don't have the Porzingis matchup is going to hurt them.
- 15:06Speaker 1: They're going to need him.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, if Porzingis doesn't come back, they're going to need somebody to stretch out those new bigs.
- 15:12Speaker 2: You know, Dude, if Porzingis doesn't come back and I'm Boston dude if Porzingis doesn't come back, he needs to move out of Boston and then just commute to games, because there's no way the Celtics fan base will put up with him still being out.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Because those alley-oops that those big guys are Dallas, they're just so easy.
- 15:33Speaker 2: And Kristaps can take them out to where they're not around there and he can make them work on defense.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Chris Stapps can hit the deep three.
- 15:39Speaker 2: We talked about it earlier in the playoffs against Miami.
- 15:44Speaker 2: With Chris Stapps, they're a completely different team.
- 15:47Speaker 1: It's going to be a small ball matchup regardless, because Horford's that guy right now.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Anyway he's a stretch kind of guy, anyway he's that guy right now.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Anyway, he's a stretch kind of guy.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Anyway, yeah, he's defensive rebounds and hit the occasional corner.
- 15:58Speaker 2: three Luka's going to be the biggest guy on the court.
- 16:01Speaker 2: God, that's crazy because Luka's only like 6'7".
- 16:04Speaker 2: I know, but it's like him and Tatum are going to be the day they're doing jump balls.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Luka and Tatum for the jump ball Right.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Well, Boston's going to go small.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I think that's their best bet, dude.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Honestly, I think Boston's best lineup in this.
- 16:20Speaker 2: This would be my ideal closing lineup.
- 16:22Speaker 2: If I'm the Celtics, I'm going to run in my backcourt, I'm running Drew Holiday and Derek White, my two forwards are going to be Tatum and Brown and then my center quote-unquote is going to be Chris Stapps, and that is a five lineup.
- 16:38Speaker 2: That is so devastating offensively and you've got the two badass defenders in the backcourt.
- 16:45Speaker 2: That's the best matchup that Boston can have in this series is going to be that five.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Well, it doesn't start until Thursday, so what else I know?
- 16:57Speaker 2: that kills me.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Did you get me all fired up, dude?
- 17:00Speaker 1: yeah got a way another week, so you got a ufc fight.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I know there is right yes, sir, we do, we do.
- 17:07Speaker 2: This is the warm-up fight for the uh ufc 303 at the end of the month.
- 17:12Speaker 2: But we do have uh.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I was looking over the card.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Um, it's not a very deep card unless you're in the weeds on the ufc stuff, so I won't bore everybody with like talking about up-and-coming fighters on the early prelims but what's something you're looking forward to?
- 17:29Speaker 2: um, the two dude, uh, I mean, even I, even me was as much as I love UFC, I mean I'm going to watch all the fights, obviously, but there's nothing really on the early card that like grabs my attention.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And well, usually when this happens, the prelims are going to be awesome, because I am not excited about them, and every time I'm not excited about prelims they're like the greatest prelims ever and they're for free on ESPN so everybody tune into the prelims.
- 18:00Speaker 1: There you go, all right.
- 18:02Speaker 2: But the main event dude.
- 18:04Speaker 2: You got a co-main event dude and both these fights are super exciting.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Hold on, let me get the thing up so I can go ahead and give you the stats on these guys.
- 18:16Speaker 1: All right.
- 18:21Speaker 2: So you got in the co-main event at middleweight.
- 18:24Speaker 2: You got Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa, which is going to be just an absolute savage fight.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Just an absolute savage fight.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Sean Strickland if you don't know who he is, he's the guy that is always talking all kinds of shit on Twitter, when he's apparently super conservative.
- 18:49Speaker 2: He's doing his best Colby Covington impression.
- 18:51Speaker 2: He's always getting involved in crap on twitter.
- 18:56Speaker 2: He is a violent, violent striker.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah I don't know who the hell called.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Who the hell?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Who'd you say, paulo?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Costa who that covington?
- 19:08Speaker 2: oh, colby covington, he's, he's that.
- 19:10Speaker 2: He's a guy that had the feud with uh, uh, with mosfet all a really good fighter.
- 19:15Speaker 2: He comes out to Kurt Angle's music.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Ufc Fans know who I'm talking about.
- 19:19Speaker 2: It's for them, this is for them, but yeah so.
- 19:26Speaker 2: And then Paulo Costa is another one.
- 19:28Speaker 2: These guys line up right around the same size, same height, same reach, obviously, the same weight, and both of them are uh strikers.
- 19:38Speaker 2: And I kind of think, even though strickland lost his last fight in a controversial decision in a five round bloodbath, um, costa has, uh, has not been the same fighter since, uh, izzy adesanya knocked him out, um, so I'm taking strickland, I think Strickland knocks him out in the third.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:57Speaker 2: And then the other main event is one of my boys, dustin the Diamond Poirier, is fighting Islam Makhachev.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I can never get his goddamn name right, but anyways.
- 20:15Speaker 2: All right, I love me some Poirier.
- 20:17Speaker 2: We know what Poirier is.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Poirier is a stand-up striker that can hold his own on the ground and some wrestling.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Makachev is from the Khabib school Russian wrestling, also really good at striker.
- 20:33Speaker 2: He's on fire right now.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Poirier, I think, is kind of finished, even though he's been fighting good as of late.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I think Poirier is finished, is kind of finished, even though he's been fighting good as of late.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I think Poirier's finished.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I think this is going to be the down slide of his career where he's going to go from main events to like main events on the prelims and I think Makachev choked him out in the second alright, alright well oh, jalen Waddell, what a piss away of money.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I hate Chris Greer.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Another dolphin just moved to pay Jalen Waddell, top five receiver money.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yep, the second one on our lineup.
- 21:08Speaker 2: That's.
- 21:09Speaker 2: What we need is just more money dumped into the wide receiving court.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Good job, chris Greer.
- 21:13Speaker 2: God, I hate Chris Greer.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Well baseball regionals going on.
- 21:18Speaker 1: This weekend.
