Latest / Foul Territory / Padres winter report w/Kevin Acee: Overblown Tatís trade rumors, Darvish’s future, Luis Arráez’s market
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Here comes Kevin Acey from the San Diego Union Tribune,
- 0:12Speaker 1: back on ft big part of the offseason and breaking
- 0:15Speaker 1: news out there in San Diego, the Darvish story. Mike Schildt,
- 0:18Speaker 1: we'll get to all of that, Kevin. Great to see you.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I actually want to start with the topic that came
- 0:22Speaker 1: up in our conversation with Ken Rosenthal yesterday. Does everyone
- 0:26Speaker 1: hate Luisa Rise around baseball? Not the person he's very
- 0:30Speaker 1: fun loving, but his game. We haven't heard a peep
- 0:32Speaker 1: about him. He's one of my favorite players. I know
- 0:35Speaker 1: his flaws, but he also has a significant strength. Your
- 0:38Speaker 1: thoughts on him and what you see happening.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Here, well, since you opened the door, I'll say, one
- 0:43Speaker 2: of the most joyous people that.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I've ever covered.
- 0:46Speaker 2: And I don't think he'll be back for the Padres
- 0:49Speaker 2: though clearly Luis is going to have to decide what
- 0:51Speaker 2: kind of contract he wants, and so I guess maybe
- 0:53Speaker 2: the Patres could be an option at a certain price.
- 0:57Speaker 2: But I will miss him. He brings incredible value to
- 1:01Speaker 2: a team when he is Luise A Rise. Last year,
- 1:05Speaker 2: he was not Luisa Rise. That's just a fact, and
- 1:08Speaker 2: they kept him in the number two hole.
- 1:09Speaker 3: And it hurt them.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Now the year before, they probably don't make the playoffs
- 1:15Speaker 2: without Luise a Rise.
- 1:17Speaker 3: So the guy definitely has value.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But clearly what MLB thinks about him is probably is reflected,
- 1:23Speaker 2: not only in the fact that you know he did
- 1:25Speaker 2: win those three batting titles with three different teams, and
- 1:28Speaker 2: then this offseason certainly somewhat predictable, but slower probably than
- 1:35Speaker 2: anyone did imagine that it would be for a guy
- 1:38Speaker 2: who has accomplished what he has.
- 1:40Speaker 4: What he does is incredible and it's not appreciated in
- 1:44Speaker 4: the game. But you watched him. He played one hundred
- 1:46Speaker 4: and fifty four games last year, what did you see
- 1:49Speaker 4: his deficiency? As obviously we know about the power, but
- 1:52Speaker 4: how like he came up in spots and he didn't
- 1:55Speaker 4: win a batting title, and I guess you don't have power.
- 1:57Speaker 4: People think you have to win a batting title. But
- 2:00Speaker 4: he hit two ninety two, So I'm pretty sure that's
- 2:03Speaker 4: okay that last I checked. But when you watched him
- 2:06Speaker 4: come up to the plate in the situation around all
- 2:08Speaker 4: the other guys that they had in that lineup, what
- 2:11Speaker 4: did you see other teams do like, ah, we got
- 2:14Speaker 4: this guy, this is an out and he might get
- 2:16Speaker 4: it hit, but this is fine.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I think that they they had and I hate to
- 2:21Speaker 2: break it down like this. I mean, I wrote like
- 2:22Speaker 2: ten different stories on what's wrong with Louisa Rise or
- 2:25Speaker 2: what's right with Louisa Rise, and I think I came
- 2:27Speaker 2: to the conclusion the guy didn't have the same kind
- 2:32Speaker 2: of good fortune. I didn't use the word luck on
- 2:35Speaker 2: purpose because I don't want to make it sound like
- 2:36Speaker 2: he was just this lucky player.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Clearly he wasn't.
- 2:39Speaker 2: He has an amazing skill, but they maybe they played
- 2:43Speaker 2: him better though I didn't notice that in particular in
- 2:46Speaker 2: terms of but they were where the ball was for
- 2:48Speaker 2: Luisa Rise. Now the guys and I forget what it was.
- 2:53Speaker 2: But his on base percentage was extremely disappointing, and so
- 2:57Speaker 2: the batting average was whatever, that would be twenty points
- 3:00Speaker 2: lower than his career or than the previous couple of years.
- 3:03Speaker 2: The on base percentage was probably twenty thirty points lower
- 3:08Speaker 2: than it was.
- 3:08Speaker 3: So he's not when he's not hitting, he.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Is not providing the value that you need, especially near
- 3:16Speaker 2: the top of the order. But honestly, you don't track
- 3:20Speaker 2: Luise Rise by that speed. You don't track him by
- 3:23Speaker 2: play discipline, you don't track him by exit velocity.
- 3:29Speaker 3: So he's just this sort of unicorn.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And when he had a bad year and Mike Schuldt
- 3:35Speaker 2: continued to have that faith in him, one of the
- 3:37Speaker 2: strengths of Mike Shilt as a manager, and that that
- 3:41Speaker 2: faith ultimately.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Was not justified.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Kevin News on you, Darvish. Is he retiring? Is he
- 3:49Speaker 5: not retiring? Or the Padres buying him out? I mean,
- 3:51Speaker 5: I played with you, Darvis in twenty thirteen, and I
- 3:54Speaker 5: know he's been great in San Diego, not only on
- 3:56Speaker 5: the Mount when he's been on the mound, but also
- 3:57Speaker 5: in the clubhouse.
- 3:59Speaker 6: Is he retiring?
- 4:00Speaker 5: And then I read something where oh, he might take
- 4:02Speaker 5: the year off and accept a bio maybe then come
- 4:04Speaker 5: back in twenty seven and renegotiate what the heck is
- 4:07Speaker 5: happening with you, Darvish.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Well, I want to be upfront and say that I
- 4:11Speaker 2: should not have used the word retired in my original story.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I knew better you Darvish is not ready to say
- 4:18Speaker 2: that that he's retired. You know, there's a difference between
- 4:21Speaker 2: other people saying, you know, yeah, you's retiring and a
- 4:25Speaker 2: guy officially retiring. And so I aired in being definitive
- 4:30Speaker 2: about that, which I quickly corrected the rest of the story,
- 4:34Speaker 2: and I was to some extent purposely vague. But I said,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you Darvish is walking away from his contract, and that
- 4:41Speaker 2: will prove to be true. That is true, what form
- 4:45Speaker 2: that comes in, And that's where I was purposely vague.
- 4:48Speaker 2: No one either can or will tell me. And it
- 4:51Speaker 2: does seem that there still have to be some decisions
- 4:55Speaker 2: made on what that looks like. The unions involved, Joel
- 4:58Speaker 2: Wolf and Wasserman his agency are involved, but Potters are involved.
- 5:02Speaker 2: You Darbish obviously as the guy who gets to make
- 5:05Speaker 2: the decision. But what is clear is that you Darvish,
- 5:08Speaker 2: who by the way, gave back or you know, didn't
- 5:12Speaker 2: get paid I think four million dollars in twenty twenty
- 5:15Speaker 2: four when he voluntarily went on the restricted list because
- 5:17Speaker 2: he did not think it was right that he was
- 5:19Speaker 2: taking money when he was attending to a personal matter.
- 5:22Speaker 2: He does not believe that this money, this forty three
- 5:26Speaker 2: forty six million bad with numbers today it's still the
- 5:30Speaker 2: off season, thankfully, But this forty something million that he
- 5:34Speaker 2: is due over the next three years, which is one
- 5:36Speaker 2: hundred percent his right to collect and plenty of guys
- 5:39Speaker 2: have done it, and plenty of guys will do it,
- 5:41Speaker 2: but you does not think that he, if he doesn't play,
- 5:44Speaker 2: should collect that that money. And so you, darbish, will
- 5:48Speaker 2: be giving back or forfeiting or avoiding his contract. Now
- 5:53Speaker 2: what that means, buy out restructure of some sort, I
- 5:58Speaker 2: don't know. But the fact is that you, Darvish, is
- 6:01Speaker 2: going to walk away from this contract.
- 6:03Speaker 4: When you said you're purposely being vague, can you explain
- 6:06Speaker 4: that a little bit more? Is that the whole premise
- 6:08Speaker 4: of purposely being vague?
- 6:11Speaker 3: Thank you for that. Yes, it was because we don't know.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I certainly don't know, but the people I'm talking to
- 6:19Speaker 2: claim to not know exactly what this is going to
- 6:22Speaker 2: look like.
- 6:22Speaker 3: And look, I didn't want to work on Saturday. I
- 6:25Speaker 3: was playing pickleball. This is something I'd been.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Following for a couple months, as you sort of went
- 6:30Speaker 2: back and forth and gathered his information, talked with his people,
- 6:34Speaker 2: talked with the padres, and suddenly it came that on
- 6:36Speaker 2: Saturday morning, it was Okay, this thing that you know
- 6:40Speaker 2: we've been talking about, it's going to happen. And but
- 6:43Speaker 2: all that we really know is you, Darvish, is walking away,
- 6:47Speaker 2: the potters will realize the savings, which is something by
- 6:50Speaker 2: the way that they've been budgeting for.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I mean, like that's you.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Darvish has let them know this is what he's doing.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So whatever moves the pottery's ULTI make before spring training,
- 7:02Speaker 2: probably during spring training, be that bolster their rotation sign
- 7:07Speaker 2: that first basement designated hitter that will partially come from you,
- 7:11Speaker 2: Darbus's money.

- 8:14Speaker 4: All right, well you kind of answered it, but can
- 8:17Speaker 4: you give us a little bit of the background of like,
- 8:20Speaker 4: when you have a conversation, you had it directly with you.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Correct, I have talked with you a few times about this.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I did not talk to you on on Saturday.
- 8:29Speaker 4: How how is he communicating his next steps in the
- 8:34Speaker 4: sense of like, is it oh man, like, yeah, it's
- 8:38Speaker 4: just done? Or is it I'm done, Like I don't have.
- 8:42Speaker 4: I don't have what it takes to rehab this like
- 8:45Speaker 4: and I'm totally content with it because we rarely get
- 8:48Speaker 4: to see inside a player's thought process as the final
- 8:53Speaker 4: days of his career are coming.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I don't think i'd be speaking out a turn to
- 8:57Speaker 2: say that that you is not like at peace with
- 9:02Speaker 2: being done because of clearly his social media posts and
- 9:05Speaker 2: the wake of my story and what he has said,
- 9:09Speaker 2: which is that he is I believe. In a Japanese
- 9:13Speaker 2: session with fans, he said that he was going to
- 9:16Speaker 2: forfeit at least twenty twenty six, but he in his
- 9:20Speaker 2: ex post he said that he's leaning.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Toward avoiding the contract.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Whatever the semantics of that is, it's clear that you
- 9:27Speaker 2: and I've been told.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Look, i'll phrase this, this was on the record. You
- 9:33Speaker 3: and I talked that.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You said he can't think about playing baseball right now.
- 9:37Speaker 2: He needs to get his body right, not just the elbow,
- 9:40Speaker 2: but his body's thirty nine. He has been doing this
- 9:42Speaker 2: a long time. He's compensated for some things with the
- 9:44Speaker 2: elbow on. He needs to get his body right. He
- 9:46Speaker 2: has seven children. His son's about to start playing at UCSD.
- 9:50Speaker 2: He needs time with the family. He can't think about
- 9:53Speaker 2: playing baseball right now. But he's not willing to say
- 9:56Speaker 2: that it's over because he knows himself and this is
- 9:59Speaker 2: what he's been doing for his whole life, uh, virtually,
- 10:03Speaker 2: and that he knows that at some point that eight
- 10:05Speaker 2: will come back to play, and so if his body
- 10:09Speaker 2: is able, he may want to play. And I've had
- 10:12Speaker 2: some people and look, there's a small circle of people
- 10:14Speaker 2: that really know what you's thinking. And I've had some
- 10:17Speaker 2: of those people talk about all sorts of possibilities including
- 10:21Speaker 2: you darbish, you know, uh coming back to MLB on
- 10:24Speaker 2: a on a minor league deal in spring training in
- 10:26Speaker 2: some future years, and that no one really does think
- 10:31Speaker 2: that that you. Darvish has said to himself, all right,
- 10:33Speaker 2: that's it.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I'm done. I think you has actually made that clear.
- 10:38Speaker 6: Can they get the money back? I don't.
- 10:40Speaker 5: I mean, if he says I avoid can I mean
- 10:43Speaker 5: when they want the Padres wanted him to do this
- 10:45Speaker 5: sooner than later, because I'm not exactly the number he's making,
- 10:48Speaker 5: but I'm assuming it's around twenty ish million, if not
- 10:51Speaker 5: more than the.
- 10:54Speaker 6: Okay, so then they can say, hey, we can use
- 10:56Speaker 6: that towards.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Oh no, no, that's something that they have have sort
- 11:00Speaker 2: of unofficially budgeted for twenty twenty six and beyond. Is
- 11:04Speaker 2: this money. This has been an ongoing thing where you know,
- 11:09Speaker 2: it's a big decision for you. So it's not like
- 11:11Speaker 2: you know, he has I don't know if I want
- 11:13Speaker 2: to say, gone back and forth or whatever, but he
- 11:16Speaker 2: has not been definitive to them and tell recently that
- 11:19Speaker 2: this is definitely going to be the case that they
- 11:22Speaker 2: are going to get money back.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Wow.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Okay, Well, then didn't ask this question, what did the
- 11:30Speaker 5: Padres need with the money?
- 11:32Speaker 6: What do they need?
- 11:32Speaker 5: Is this team enough with Musgrove coming back and Mason
- 11:36Speaker 5: Miller at the back end and some of the other things.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Is this team good enough to compete with or without
- 11:42Speaker 5: the money from you, Darvish?
- 11:45Speaker 2: I think that they could be a playoff team, but
- 11:47Speaker 2: what is that even saying anymore? Right, Like, they're a
- 11:50Speaker 2: contending team. Six teams make the playoffs in the National League.
- 11:54Speaker 2: So I think that with Joe coming back, with Nick Pavetta,
- 11:58Speaker 2: with Michael King coming back, Randy Vasquez is a guy
- 12:01Speaker 2: that you're gonna end up talking about at some point
- 12:03Speaker 2: this year because like he's a really good three or
- 12:05Speaker 2: four starter he is.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Now that leaves, they got.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Depth problems, both starting pitching and position player. I mean,
- 12:14Speaker 2: like I probably have as big a reservations about this
- 12:17Speaker 2: team in terms of their depth, and they you could
- 12:20Speaker 2: argue that they've had depth issues every year. Of course,
- 12:23Speaker 2: I guess you could argue that everyone but the Dodgers
- 12:25Speaker 2: has depth issues. But like, I wonder, where is this
- 12:30Speaker 2: going to come from? And you have two guys that
- 12:32Speaker 2: are facing legacy years and Fernando Tatis Junior and Manny Machado.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I think they're two of the best players to ever
- 12:38Speaker 2: play this game, but like they need to step up
- 12:41Speaker 2: and have the kind of years that they're supposed to
- 12:42Speaker 2: have that they're being paid to have.
- 12:44Speaker 3: There's a lot of questions about this team. Who is
- 12:47Speaker 3: behind them.
- 12:48Speaker 2: And who's behind you know, Xander Bogart, Jake Cronaworth, Gavin Sheets. Well,
- 12:52Speaker 2: you need another first basement and you need a designated hitter.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Are those the same guy?
- 12:57Speaker 2: Okay, well, then you need another extra outfielder so they
- 13:03Speaker 2: have a power deficiency unless obviously Fernando and Manny have
- 13:07Speaker 2: those types of years that I've talked about, and they
- 13:10Speaker 2: do not have a first basement right now because you're
- 13:13Speaker 2: not going to as good as he was and what
- 13:16Speaker 2: he proved. You're not running Gavin Sheets out there every
- 13:18Speaker 2: day to play first base.
- 13:21Speaker 4: All right. Every I feel like every off season or
- 13:24Speaker 4: even part way through the year, you hears some rumor
- 13:26Speaker 4: and I think it's started by other teams, But can
- 13:28Speaker 4: you confirm that there's zero or one chance they would
- 13:33Speaker 4: have shopped Fernando Tatis.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Zero for now?
- 13:37Speaker 2: You notice that that's been basically the caveat is for now,
- 13:41Speaker 2: Like first off the team is for sale. Whether that
- 13:46Speaker 2: comes happens or not, it depends on who you ask
- 13:49Speaker 2: right now. But let's assume it's for sale, so you know,
- 13:53Speaker 2: we can't say what's gonna happen in the future. But
- 13:55Speaker 2: the fact is they they have boxed themselves to a
- 13:57Speaker 2: certain extent.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Now. Whenever I say that I got to give the
- 14:00Speaker 3: asterisk of aj.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Preller, he finds a way to build this team and
- 14:06Speaker 2: fit it within whatever budget you've given. But the fact
- 14:08Speaker 2: is that they're going to be paying Xander Bogarts and
- 14:10Speaker 2: Manny Machado some big money in the future, and those
- 14:13Speaker 2: guys are probably unmovable for Nano.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Tatis Junior is very movable. If there's a.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Piece in the future where this team has to and
- 14:23Speaker 2: this is a gigantic if. All right, it's like capital
- 14:26Speaker 2: if italicize bold, if.
- 14:28Speaker 3: They have to do that.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Fernando Tatis Junior is the guy that goes and yes
- 14:34Speaker 2: he has no trade. Those are those those can be
- 14:37Speaker 2: worked out, should be noted, but those can be worked out,
- 14:40Speaker 2: zero zero chance. Believe me, I have embarrassed myself how
- 14:45Speaker 2: many times I've asked people in the organization because this
- 14:48Speaker 2: rumor comes up so often and you just can't rule
- 14:51Speaker 2: anything out. So even though I knew it was zero,
- 14:54Speaker 2: like I've asked until we're less than zero like that,
- 14:57Speaker 2: he was not going to be traded this offseason.
- 15:02Speaker 7: It doesn't That doesn't mean after opening days, Okay.
- 15:08Speaker 3: How about this, I'll give you. I'll give you trade deadline.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I doubt it.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Gosh, I hate doing this because in today's day and age,
- 15:14Speaker 2: you know how these things take off.
- 15:16Speaker 3: I'm not saying it will happen. I do not think
- 15:18Speaker 3: it will happen.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I think that what they have built in San Diego,
- 15:22Speaker 2: with the fans like that's a precious thing.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I think that that when.
- 15:27Speaker 2: You're building a team, you've got to make it the
- 15:28Speaker 2: best team you can, regardless of what the fans are
- 15:31Speaker 2: gonna think. Fernando Tautist Junior is like the guy in
- 15:37Speaker 2: San Diego. Yes, Manny Machado, people love him, Att Jackson,
- 15:41Speaker 2: Merrill working his way up there, Joe Musco, But Fernando
- 15:44Speaker 2: Tatis Junior is the guy there.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Would what the.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Padres have built in this small market, with the fans,
- 15:50Speaker 2: with the sellouts, with the passion that is unprecedented in
- 15:55Speaker 2: this town for the Padres, that is all at risk
- 15:59Speaker 2: if they get rid of Fernando Tatis Junior.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I do not believe Fernando Tatis Junior will be moved.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I am in the business of it doesn't really matter
- 16:08Speaker 2: what I believe.
- 16:09Speaker 3: The facts are. He could be moved at some time.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I don't think it's gonna happen.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Okay, just so you know how media works in social media, Kevin,
- 16:17Speaker 5: Now we're gonna clip this, and we're gonna clip it,
- 16:20Speaker 5: and then the headline that's gonna say Kevin Acey says
- 16:22Speaker 5: Fernando Tatis will be moved at trade deadline. Now we're
- 16:26Speaker 5: not gonna be year. We're not gonna put what year.
- 16:28Speaker 5: It could be twenty thirty, but you said it. So congratulations.
- 16:32Speaker 5: You're the first guy to say the Padres. Now everyone
- 16:35Speaker 5: in San Diego hate you. But now, so that's why
- 16:38Speaker 5: I spoke the way I did.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I was all over the place, and I was doing.
- 16:42Speaker 6: But purpose the while knowing that all.
- 16:45Speaker 3: That many people would see is the headline.
- 16:48Speaker 7: So you're purposely vague, right, isn't that your word? Purposely vague?
- 16:51Speaker 3: I love that strategy.
- 16:53Speaker 6: That's small part. It's smart.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Now, two guys that the San Diego people love, maybe
- 16:57Speaker 5: more than Fernando Tatis is dog Don Orcillo in Mud Grant, okay,
- 17:02Speaker 5: and they have a bubblehead coming out of them. Two
- 17:05Speaker 5: in Don's miniyacht, as he calls it. Can someone explain
- 17:08Speaker 5: to me where they got the picture of Don Orsilo
- 17:11Speaker 5: because that does not look like Don Riscilo. I am sorry,
- 17:14Speaker 5: that is way too young for Don. I text him
- 17:16Speaker 5: the same thing. I said, I need one of these.
- 17:18Speaker 5: But who did they get to stand in for your model?
- 17:21Speaker 5: Can we talk to the patres and find out who
- 17:23Speaker 5: modeled for Donalrisilo?
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah? And I'm looking close like both Don and Mud
- 17:28Speaker 2: have you know, trimmed up.
- 17:30Speaker 3: They really have. They're taking care of themselves.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Okay, but that's pretty spelt there for for Donna as
- 17:36Speaker 2: well for being honest.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Right, I mean, come on, just I'm looking at it.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:42Speaker 5: And by the way, that miniacht has a weight limit.
- 17:44Speaker 5: That's why Donal'll never take me in it. And if
- 17:46Speaker 5: he puts him in Mud in it, it might sink
- 17:48Speaker 5: still because I think the weight limit is like two
- 17:50Speaker 5: hundred and fifty pounds, so they maybe should have made
- 17:53Speaker 5: the boat a little bigger.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I'm saying I did.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I was unclear that Mud had ever been on there
- 17:59Speaker 2: because of that particular thing. But I'm telling you I
- 18:02Speaker 2: saw Mud on Sunday. Mud looks great. Uh so, yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 2: far better than Dawn. I mean, I can't believe that
- 18:09Speaker 2: they let him get away with that.
- 18:10Speaker 3: That bubble head.
- 18:13Speaker 6: I love it. I love it.
- 18:14Speaker 5: It's amazing, it's amazing, It's gonna be awesome. They're the best,
- 18:17Speaker 5: They're one of the best. I'm not gonna say they're
- 18:19Speaker 5: the best duo that happens in Major League Baseball, but
- 18:22Speaker 5: they are definitely at the top. They have fun, they laugh,
- 18:25Speaker 5: and I've done many games with Don Ricillo. I only
- 18:27Speaker 5: have one complaint. Scott knows my complaint. Padres broadcast booth
- 18:33Speaker 5: and Crats is gonna be like, what are you talking about?
- 18:35Speaker 5: Is the only one in MLB where it's backwards. So
- 18:39Speaker 5: in every broadcast booth, the play by play guy sits
- 18:43Speaker 5: to my left, okay, And in San Diego, for some reason,
- 18:47Speaker 5: the play by play guy sits to your right. And
- 18:50Speaker 5: now I'm like Zoolander. I'm not a very good Ambi turner,
- 18:52Speaker 5: so I can't go right right. So I'm always like, oh,
- 18:56Speaker 5: and there's a wall there, so I don't know why
- 18:58Speaker 5: they did it that way, But it's the only one
- 19:01Speaker 5: that I know of an MLB words backwards.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I'll look into it.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Okay, thank you. Next column, Why is the San Diego
- 19:10Speaker 5: Broadcast booth backwards?
- 19:11Speaker 6: Is that just for TV? Yeah?
- 19:15Speaker 4: Because radio? When I did radio, play by play guy
- 19:18Speaker 4: was always to my right. But I guess that doesn't matter.
- 19:20Speaker 4: You just set up wherever you want.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know. It's weird just San Diego, Scott.
- 19:27Speaker 5: I think you've done games there, and I think it's
- 19:29Speaker 5: because the stat guy, the way they built the booth
- 19:31Speaker 5: has to be on the right, otherwise he's reaching over
- 19:33Speaker 5: you with his cards for the play by play guy.
- 19:35Speaker 6: But it's just strange. I don't know.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Actually I haven't. I've done sideline there, I have not
- 19:40Speaker 1: done play by power there. I didn't do any games there,
- 19:42Speaker 1: so I don't even remember if I went up to
- 19:44Speaker 1: the booth. Probably not, but that's good to know. That
- 19:46Speaker 1: would have made me super confused.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Maybe it's Arcillo's good side. Maybe he's the one who
- 19:52Speaker 3: started this.
- 19:52Speaker 6: That's a good point. I didn't know that.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Well, Kevin, always a pleasure catching up with you. We
- 19:58Speaker 1: love your info. Really great cracking into some news this offseason.
