- 0:04Speaker 1: we start them Offia flash, Okay, you can do whatever
- 0:08Speaker 1: you want to do. It's not my problem. But if it,
- 0:10Speaker 1: if it brings it is that not know what a flash,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Mabel flash.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What she's doing.
- 0:14Speaker 3: I just realized from the fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, this
- 0:19Speaker 3: is pod therapy, real people, real problems, and real therapists.
- 0:21Speaker 3: You could submit your questions anonymously at pod therapy net
- 0:25Speaker 3: or email us at pod therapy guys at gmail dot com.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Now broadcasting from the.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Term scene a coy pond studio.
- 0:33Speaker 3: That's Whitney on next time for some pod therapy.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We survived. They tried to stop us, they took away
- 0:39Speaker 1: our studio. They should Jacob twice in the chest. That's right,
- 0:42Speaker 1: we're still here. I don't even know who they were.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Jim can't die.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Brave.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So yeah, no, I like this plan of starting our
- 0:52Speaker 1: own gambling mafia whatever it is, flashing gambling scheme as
- 0:55Speaker 1: a mafia. I suppose we're gonna make money in many
- 0:58Speaker 1: illegal ways. One of them could be witness. He runs
- 1:00Speaker 1: around flashing people. I don't know how we get money
- 1:02Speaker 1: on LA.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I mean if you came to my place of business
- 1:05Speaker 3: and threatened me and said, sure would be awful if
- 1:07Speaker 3: I came in here naked, wouldn't Yeah, yeah, I'd pay you, okay,
- 1:11Speaker 3: pay you to leave. This is okay, I'd pay you
- 1:13Speaker 3: to get out. Is this girl e stortion?
- 1:14Speaker 2: That's exactly what it is.
- 1:15Speaker 1: That's fine. I don't care against it because it wants
- 1:18Speaker 1: to make money out.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah, they're going to be a mob.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I'm not worried about what kind of crying
- 1:22Speaker 1: it is. That's got to make sure pays. Okay, So
- 1:24Speaker 1: you just show up and talk seven to eleven guy like, hey,
- 1:27Speaker 1: look at my dick, and then he goes, oh my god.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You go okay, do you want that to happen again?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Pretty much? Twenty bucks forty and I leave for a week,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and then every week I come back forty a week
- 1:36Speaker 1: and you see me walk in here. I want to
- 1:38Speaker 1: see twenty on the count the counter immediately and then
- 1:40Speaker 1: I walk away.
- 1:42Speaker 3: This is sure would be a same a shame to
- 1:44Speaker 3: see these ash cheeks up against your window, wouldn't it.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I really hate to have to work here every day,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and me, guys, this is not a bad idea. I
- 1:53Speaker 1: also think we should do the gambling.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I don't think speered away from the gambling part.
- 1:57Speaker 1: You got to have money to make money, right, So
- 1:59Speaker 1: like this, we start with the extortion thing and then
- 2:02Speaker 1: we roll that into booky business. If you would like
- 2:05Speaker 1: to find out why the fuck any of this makes
- 2:06Speaker 1: economic sense under the Trump regime, and it mathematically does
- 2:10Speaker 1: patron dot com slash therapy, you can hear our.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Starting a mob makes financial sense? Oh yeah, yeah, I
- 2:15Speaker 2: think would be bad at starting a mob.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Should we run this past the lawyers? Do you think
- 2:19Speaker 1: we should check on any of our legal team? I
- 2:22Speaker 1: feel like one of those things with the less they know,
- 2:23Speaker 1: the more plausible deniability they have. So it's one of
- 2:25Speaker 1: the things were like a wink and a nod, Like
- 2:27Speaker 1: Tony Soprano were like, I don't need to know.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Where this is watching the Sopranos have been watching it,
- 2:32Speaker 4: well time, that's right, that's right.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah, we did a bunch of spoilers on that. Yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 2: We did talk about in the pre show today about
- 2:41Speaker 2: how much of Jim's forty before forty list Whitney has done. Yeah,
- 2:45Speaker 2: and it's not sizable. It's not small. I believe it's
- 2:48Speaker 2: we're talking math earlier. I believe it's precisely one hundred
- 2:51Speaker 2: percent more than what Gym has done.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think that's how that works. I feel like it's
- 2:55Speaker 1: probably not correct. And also Laura seems to be.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Doing at doing awesome.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So we're just, uh, Nick, how are you doing?
- 3:03Speaker 2: How many time to Yeah?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Fifty before fifty it's a big number, though, that's a
- 3:10Speaker 1: lot of things. I got more time, so, oh, ship,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you got like more than six months?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Six years?
- 3:16Speaker 1: All right, that is a lot of time. Yeah, I'm
- 3:19Speaker 1: running out. I've only got six months left, but plenty
- 3:21Speaker 1: of time. I'll sort it out. Yeah, are going to
- 3:24Speaker 1: fall off the list, jem.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I do agree that you have plenty of time to
- 3:27Speaker 2: do the entire list.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Thanks buddy.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I stand by my previous position though, and say that
- 3:31Speaker 2: you won't.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Okay. I feel like, yeah, there's like some support in that.
- 3:35Speaker 1: They like there's something like, hey, buddy, I believe that
- 3:38Speaker 1: you're able to Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the motivational poster
- 3:40Speaker 1: from Jacob is, oh you can do it.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You're able, You're able to do this. You can individual.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I want them to be a poster you are able
- 3:50Speaker 4: to do this.
- 3:51Speaker 1: That's the chance. Yeah, you can do it, and Jake
- 3:53Speaker 1: is like, you can, you can't, you can't? Well know
- 3:56Speaker 1: you won't. Great, Well, welcome, thank you for sticking with
- 4:00Speaker 1: us as we go through our transition phase through studios
- 4:04Speaker 1: and enjoy our new place with our only singular landlord.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Now that's right. Instead of an entire show, so's we
- 4:14Speaker 1: are in her rehearsal studio. So she is graciously allowing
- 4:17Speaker 1: us to camp out.
- 4:17Speaker 2: She was like, you're gonna set up in the studio, right,
- 4:19Speaker 2: I said, yeah, So are you gonna make it where
- 4:21Speaker 2: I can move things to have a band rehearsal? Yes?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, great up there. Yes, surprised.
- 4:27Speaker 3: How limited are how very little space pod Therapy will take?
- 4:31Speaker 1: That's right, three mics, a copy data. We will be
- 4:35Speaker 1: on the coffee table.
- 4:36Speaker 2: This is we're literally four microphones.
- 4:38Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You could leave these out and you wouldn't even know
- 4:41Speaker 1: we were here. Oh, they're getting left out. They're going
- 4:45Speaker 1: to be left out. I'm not trying to do more
- 4:48Speaker 1: work than happen. So we've got some great questions for
- 4:51Speaker 1: today's show and leading off the order, differences in sex drives.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Hello pod Therapy friends, I'm a thirty one year old
- 4:58Speaker 1: woman who just met the best guy and we've become
- 5:01Speaker 1: official yoo. We have open communication, both emotionally intelligent, and
- 5:08Speaker 1: can talk about anything well. The other night, while we
- 5:11Speaker 1: were having a few beers, I asked him if he
- 5:13Speaker 1: wanted to have sex, to which he replied that I
- 5:16Speaker 1: have a stronger sex drive than he does. All right, fair.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I told him that I had been pressured in the
- 5:22Speaker 1: past to have sex and it always made me uncomfortable
- 5:24Speaker 1: and anxious, so I assured him that I would not
- 5:27Speaker 1: do that to him. He appreciated that confided that he
- 5:30Speaker 1: had also been made uncomfortable by past partners for that
- 5:33Speaker 1: very same reason. So here's my question. How do I
- 5:36Speaker 1: ask him for sex without feeling like I'm pressuring him.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I've sort of reverted to letting him drive when it
- 5:43Speaker 1: comes to initiating, but I also don't want him to
- 5:46Speaker 1: think I'm not interested because I'm not asking or feeling
- 5:50Speaker 1: him up for fear of making him uncomfortable. I'm deeply
- 5:53Speaker 1: empathetic to the fact that he just isn't as horny
- 5:56Speaker 1: as I am because that was me in all of
- 5:59Speaker 1: our previous earth my previous relationships. I would never want
- 6:02Speaker 1: to make him feel the way that I've felt. So
- 6:04Speaker 1: I just want to tread lightly. I also want to
- 6:07Speaker 1: get my fuck on, you know what I mean. Any
- 6:09Speaker 1: advice would be yes, you just said, not even a metaphor.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Any advice would be oh, we have a lot of
- 6:19Speaker 1: explaining to do.
- 6:20Speaker 2: This is when when a pod therapy listener and their
- 6:24Speaker 2: partner love each other very much.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Or or just are drunk or sober coolerate each other.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yeah enough, or it's a dark room and everybody's bored.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Any advice would be so appreciated from your collective reservoir
- 6:38Speaker 1: of knowledge. Love y'all signed, all Town, no pound solid.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Let's let's normalize signs like this. This is what I want,
- 6:49Speaker 1: like all Town, no Pound. I love punny sign offs.
- 6:52Speaker 1: This is really good. Yeah, disparity in libido okay, and
- 6:57Speaker 1: then but see this is tricky too, because I feel
- 6:59Speaker 1: like there's a good discussion in the internet lands about
- 7:05Speaker 1: various new flavors of sexuality that I think we're coming
- 7:09Speaker 1: up with better words to describe what turns people on
- 7:11Speaker 1: and what works them. So, like you've probably heard demisexual
- 7:14Speaker 1: sapio sexual like people are like, look, I'm not, I'm
- 7:16Speaker 1: not just always physically into it, but then I'm really
- 7:19Speaker 1: attracted to somebody that I'm close to and develop emotions for,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and then I do want to have sex with you.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I've also heard like responsive sexuality, and so that person
- 7:26Speaker 1: will say like, look, I'm never going to initiate, but like,
- 7:29Speaker 1: if you start to initiate, that does get me going
- 7:33Speaker 1: and now I do enjoy having sex. Yeah, but you
- 7:35Speaker 1: have to initiate that. But in Writer's case, it sounds
- 7:38Speaker 1: like that's a tricky situation because it's like, Okay, how
- 7:40Speaker 1: are you going to initiate this without it seems like
- 7:42Speaker 1: you're pressuring them and do they even want that?
- 7:45Speaker 4: I know, especially with the history too, like the sensitive
- 7:48Speaker 4: histories from both people, I mean, and trying to be
- 7:52Speaker 4: sensitive to that can be tricky. What I liked that
- 7:55Speaker 4: I heard was that you both have really good communication.
- 7:59Speaker 4: And my opinion is that it doesn't just communicating about
- 8:03Speaker 4: something or bringing up a topic doesn't mean you're pressuring
- 8:05Speaker 4: anyone into something they don't want to do. So I
- 8:10Speaker 4: would say, like, when you're not in the mood to
- 8:14Speaker 4: bring this up with your partner in a way that's like, hey,
- 8:17Speaker 4: about how often do you do you feel like you're
- 8:20Speaker 4: in the mood or or yeah, do you do you
- 8:22Speaker 4: have a signals like, because there's signals right, Like as
- 8:25Speaker 4: you get to know your partner, it's like, oh, I
- 8:28Speaker 4: know if they like say this one phrase or it's
- 8:30Speaker 4: like a little like arm rub or I have friends
- 8:33Speaker 4: like say stuff like that.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Or like invalid or what not. Elecatorian Victorian society, Like
- 8:37Speaker 1: they loosen their course and you're like, what a whore?
- 8:39Speaker 1: She wants it?
- 8:40Speaker 4: Well, they show your ankles. She wants to see the ankles.
- 8:43Speaker 4: It's on, OK, yeah, yeah.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I can see all of our ankles.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I don't know. Victorian also wears that ball gown, right,
- 9:00Speaker 1: and so I'm going to be comfortable. No, this is
- 9:03Speaker 1: we're not questioning anything very conservative. That's right out on
- 9:07Speaker 1: the streets. Though, miniskirt hiked up, you know, red lipstick.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I'm not at home, three layer ball gown.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I agree, though, this is a conversation that, Yeah, I
- 9:20Speaker 3: think it's a good one to have and just kind
- 9:23Speaker 3: of get an idea of like paint a picture of
- 9:25Speaker 3: what your ideal sexual relationship would look like for each person.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Being able to do that and then being able to
- 9:33Speaker 3: find a way to communicate that in a way that
- 9:36Speaker 3: isn't pressuring.
- 9:37Speaker 2: That's tough.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I like the idea of being curious. I like the
- 9:39Speaker 1: idea of asking somebody what are your tells? Or like
- 9:43Speaker 1: do you have do you notice that you have any patterns?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Like are you the kind of person that when we
- 9:47Speaker 1: do have a couple of beers you loosen up and
- 9:49Speaker 1: then like, oh, are you the glass of wine person
- 9:52Speaker 1: that's like, oh, I didn't want to have sex, but
- 9:53Speaker 1: usually after I have one or two drinks, I'm now
- 9:57Speaker 1: seventy percent more into it. And like, but I think
- 10:00Speaker 1: that's what's so tricky is when you're being warned and
- 10:03Speaker 1: this I think this cross applies to so many people,
- 10:05Speaker 1: like if your partner has any history of sexual trauma,
- 10:07Speaker 1: this comes up a lot where it's like part of
- 10:10Speaker 1: our relationship, though, is meant to be this I have
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know quote unquote needs I desire you in our relationship.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I shouldn't have to apologize for those things. That's not
- 10:18Speaker 1: a predatory thing. We are in a consenting adult relationship.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That should be a celebrated aspect that we have chemistry
- 10:24Speaker 1: and that I'm into you. It'd be way worse if
- 10:26Speaker 1: I wasn't into you. But then like I can feel
- 10:29Speaker 1: like a villain, or I can feel like I'm hurting you,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and then you might feel pressured not to say anything
- 10:34Speaker 1: because that might be part of your trauma. Is like, oh,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I don't want to signal this, so just go with it.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It's like such a dangerous game play.
- 10:40Speaker 3: It is because even if you so, even if you
- 10:42Speaker 3: communicate that message like okay, so these are the things
- 10:45Speaker 3: that kind of get me in the mood or kind
- 10:47Speaker 3: of turn me on, right then now as the other person,
- 10:50Speaker 3: then you kind of feel like, okay, so those are
- 10:52Speaker 3: the things I'll do. But how do you do those
- 10:54Speaker 3: in a way that doesn't feel pressuring?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Right now? You're just doing you want to get laidy.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You're trying to get me going.
- 11:00Speaker 3: The example of like okay, yeah, a couple of glasses
- 11:03Speaker 3: of wine, and it's like, okay, well, how many bottles
- 11:06Speaker 3: of wine did you get when you got grocery shot?
- 11:07Speaker 2: Twelve? Twelve bottles? We need twelve bottles?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Now are we doing wine every night with every meal?
- 11:12Speaker 3: What are we doing? Like but then you can shoot
- 11:14Speaker 3: your shot? Okay, yeah, So I mean that's obviously an
- 11:16Speaker 3: extreme example. But then now let's say that's not the case.
- 11:19Speaker 3: And it's like, Okay, it's a weekend. We haven't had
- 11:21Speaker 3: a bottle of wine in a while. I'm gonna pull
- 11:23Speaker 3: out a bottle of wine for dinner.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:24Speaker 3: And then it's like, oh, he pulled out a bottle
- 11:26Speaker 3: of wine. Now I feel like I have to do something.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And now I feel like, Okay, he wants to well
- 11:31Speaker 3: I don't want. I still don't want it, you know.
- 11:33Speaker 3: And there I don't know. It's a slippery slope.
- 11:36Speaker 1: It is a weird game because like this is one
- 11:38Speaker 1: of those things. And I'm probably way off base here,
- 11:40Speaker 1: so I'm just gonna say that upfront as most probably
- 11:42Speaker 1: just straight fucking wrong. But I feel like, okay, so
- 11:46Speaker 1: all Town, no Pounds, seems perfectly happy, and it's saying, hey,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I get this, I am empathetic to this. I just
- 11:50Speaker 1: want to be a good learner and I want to
- 11:52Speaker 1: be a good partner. Great, I have no correction for that.
- 11:54Speaker 1: What I'm about to say does not apply to you. However,
- 11:56Speaker 1: I have seen these situations, and maybe it's an American thing.
- 12:00Speaker 1: It's different in the rest of the world. Sexuality, libido, appetite
- 12:04Speaker 1: feels like this thing that I think new couples or
- 12:07Speaker 1: dating couples, they talk about a little, but then there's
- 12:11Speaker 1: like it's very difficult to truly get a sense of
- 12:14Speaker 1: where people are at. And then this conversation comes up
- 12:17Speaker 1: and you've already connected to the person, like you've already
- 12:19Speaker 1: kind of fallen for them. We're already kind of dating.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And now they reveal to you I don't like sex,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, in the beginning, you would. You
- 12:26Speaker 1: were gorgeous, you were throwing it at me. That was
- 12:28Speaker 1: a big part of our fires. Like yeah, that's a
- 12:30Speaker 1: beginning thing. Like that's how I kind of foster the connections,
- 12:33Speaker 1: how I build the chemistry. And the other partner's like, wow,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I no, I fell for that though. That's what was advertised,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and like that's what I bought, Like I thought that
- 12:40Speaker 1: was us and now you're telling me, oh, by the way,
- 12:43Speaker 1: that's not gonna happen. And it's weird whenever you ask,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and I just I see this in couples counseling a lot,
- 12:49Speaker 1: where like there's this resentment down the road and they say, hey,
- 12:51Speaker 1: we have a sexual mismatch and that was and nobody's
- 12:55Speaker 1: blaming anybody, but there's this argument of like, how do
- 12:58Speaker 1: we advertise that earlier in the dynamic? Like I knew
- 13:01Speaker 1: what you looked like, I could tell if you were
- 13:03Speaker 1: my type, I knew what your career was. All these
- 13:05Speaker 1: other things are presented to me. I know how much
- 13:06Speaker 1: free time you have, I know what your family commitments are.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I can simulate what being in a relationship with you
- 13:11Speaker 1: is going to look like. So I've informed consent on
- 13:13Speaker 1: every other area of our relationship.
- 13:15Speaker 3: You even kind of get an idea of like their
- 13:17Speaker 3: finances right before.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, the sex.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Sometimes he's right, really yeah, Like you learn.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Early on up front have no money and we started.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Problem well, I mean like you're careful not to get
- 13:34Speaker 3: into a long term relationship and then realize that the
- 13:37Speaker 3: person is.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Three hundred and fifty thous debt. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Know that's pretty fair.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, or needs you to pick them up for
- 13:45Speaker 1: every date because they don't own a transportation, they can't
- 13:47Speaker 1: get Like, these things are all revealed as you're building
- 13:50Speaker 1: that first phase of the relationship. But for whatever reason,
- 13:52Speaker 1: I feel like and and again the writer is not
- 13:54Speaker 1: complaining about this, but I'm just looking through this letter
- 13:57Speaker 1: and noticing sometimes this isn't where you actually get feelings
- 14:01Speaker 1: for a person, and you get a few steps into
- 14:03Speaker 1: this and you say I think we're a thing now,
- 14:05Speaker 1: and then discover this kind of a mismatch. And I
- 14:09Speaker 1: don't blame anybody. I don't think anybody's being intentionally dishonest
- 14:12Speaker 1: about it. But it's just a curious part of how
- 14:14Speaker 1: humans talk, and like whether humans even have that internal
- 14:17Speaker 1: awareness and know how to language that or where they
- 14:19Speaker 1: feel comfortable with it.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:21Speaker 1: It just seems like one of those things that like
- 14:23Speaker 1: mismatches are much more common than I think we realize.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Yeah. I think that's where the open communication that all
- 14:29Speaker 4: town talks about cound free.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I really go back to us just kind of
- 14:36Speaker 4: looking at the question again, and what really stands out
- 14:40Speaker 4: to me is just that whenever you initiated sex that
- 14:45Speaker 4: one night with the beers, he said you have a
- 14:48Speaker 4: higher sex drive than I do. To me, maybe in
- 14:50Speaker 4: that moment, it's like, oh, okay, I'm getting the message
- 14:53Speaker 4: you're not in the mood. Let me like back off. Yeah,
- 14:56Speaker 4: but I can't help it. Go back to what you said, Jim,
- 14:59Speaker 4: where it's like, let's just be curious about this. So
- 15:01Speaker 4: if you were to revisit that with your partner who
- 15:04Speaker 4: seems emotionally intelligent, good communication, like that's the best case
- 15:08Speaker 4: scenario here, like awesome, love that because that gives you
- 15:11Speaker 4: an opportunity, in my mind, to approach them again and say, hey,
- 15:16Speaker 4: you know you mentioned this before, and what I've been
- 15:17Speaker 4: doing is just sort of letting you take the wheel,
- 15:20Speaker 4: letting you drive that that initiation. Is that okay with you?
- 15:25Speaker 4: Because I think back to what you're saying when there's mismatches,
- 15:29Speaker 4: like if you pull back all the way, then then
- 15:34Speaker 4: maybe they don't want to be the pursuer the whole
- 15:36Speaker 4: time or like you know, because that can be tricky
- 15:40Speaker 4: too well.
- 15:40Speaker 1: And that's the other side of this equation is and
- 15:43Speaker 1: I love the writer is being super duper sensitive gold stars.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Right, I know that's amazing.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Maybe a classy human being be super sweet about this
- 15:51Speaker 1: and saying out loud, look, guys, I really don't want
- 15:53Speaker 1: to cause any trouble for this person. I want to
- 15:54Speaker 1: be awesome to them. I want them to always be
- 15:56Speaker 1: happy with me. I think that's lovely. But speaking on
- 15:59Speaker 1: your behalf in ways that you're not asking me to.
- 16:01Speaker 1: But I'm noticing there's another form of harm that can
- 16:04Speaker 1: happen in this kind of relationship, right, which is like
- 16:06Speaker 1: I'm feeling rejected. I desire you, and it's unrequited love
- 16:10Speaker 1: or unrequited affection is one of the most painful things
- 16:12Speaker 1: humans can go through. It is the plot line of
- 16:15Speaker 1: many a story. Is like You're looking at this person
- 16:18Speaker 1: who you love and you value and you want intimacy with,
- 16:22Speaker 1: and they do not have that feeling for you. And
- 16:26Speaker 1: then this is where a lot of couples get to
- 16:27Speaker 1: where they're like, I feel like we're really good friends.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I feel like I'm your roommate and I love you.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I love you like family. I'm so close to you,
- 16:34Speaker 1: but we don't have this part of the triangle here,
- 16:37Speaker 1: and so like we're missing this and there's a form
- 16:39Speaker 1: of pain that I think that other person can experience,
- 16:43Speaker 1: and this resentment can open up of like if we
- 16:46Speaker 1: just take the position of I'm waiting on you and
- 16:49Speaker 1: you're going to initiate, then I could still see you
- 16:51Speaker 1: resenting me, because then when I tell you my cup's
- 16:53Speaker 1: empty and I'm hurting, I need you to make time
- 16:55Speaker 1: for me. Now you say, well, now I feel pressured
- 16:57Speaker 1: by you, and so I guess I'm going to initiate,
- 16:59Speaker 1: but really only because I'm compelled to. And at that point,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and this is me now bitching writer, this is a nothing.
- 17:07Speaker 1: At that point, I get involved in this and I'm
- 17:09Speaker 1: kind of like, why are you in a relationship? Like,
- 17:12Speaker 1: are you sure that's what you want? Are you sure
- 17:13Speaker 1: you're not just looking for a platonic friend, because if
- 17:16Speaker 1: you're out there advertising that you're looking for a romantic
- 17:18Speaker 1: connection in a relationship, but you literally have no interest
- 17:21Speaker 1: in this part of the three prong triangle of a relationship.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Go to our patreon dot com slash therapy. Go into
- 17:29Speaker 1: the directory. There's an entire series on the triangle. Theory
- 17:31Speaker 1: of love kind of goes over some of these references
- 17:33Speaker 1: of making. But yeah, at some point I kind of
- 17:36Speaker 1: look at that and go, are you looking for a relationship?
- 17:39Speaker 1: So I love what the writer's saying. Hey, I'm trying
- 17:41Speaker 1: to keep my side of the street clean, I'm trying
- 17:43Speaker 1: to be friendly, but I'm anticipating some ways that this
- 17:45Speaker 1: can get wrong where it's like, Okay, no problem, I'll
- 17:48Speaker 1: just let you do all the thinking and you do
- 17:49Speaker 1: all the initiating, and if they never do, what about
- 17:51Speaker 1: your needs? What about you know, are you a cad
- 17:53Speaker 1: for like wanting more than that relationship and them not
- 17:55Speaker 1: having that available? Is are you bad? Or like at
- 17:59Speaker 1: some point do we look at them and go, maybe
- 18:00Speaker 1: you shouldn't be in a relationship, like that's not what
- 18:02Speaker 1: you're looking for. Again, I realize I'm talking in my ass,
- 18:04Speaker 1: but like, I just see this. I see all these
- 18:06Speaker 1: different flavors in couples therapy, and it just makes me think, like,
- 18:09Speaker 1: of all the variations I could see this problem have.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I mean, I can see that there's a lot of
- 18:15Speaker 3: ways in which either party could take this and use
- 18:18Speaker 3: it against the other person. Yeah, you know, and just like, Okay,
- 18:24Speaker 3: well I don't want to be pressured. I feel like
- 18:25Speaker 3: you're pressuring me now. And then the other person's like, well, yeah,
- 18:28Speaker 3: I am a bit sure no because I also have
- 18:31Speaker 3: needs too, right, you know, and so like, I don't know,
- 18:35Speaker 3: it could get messy very quickly. The best case scenario
- 18:39Speaker 3: is hopefully the two of you can kind of sit
- 18:41Speaker 3: down and have an adult conversation about this and just
- 18:44Speaker 3: be open and honest about it without being willing or
- 18:48Speaker 3: without taking and using any of this as ammunition later.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I like that, Yeah, yeah, being very very kind about it.
- 18:54Speaker 2: And like have this conversation when neither of you are
- 18:57Speaker 2: horned up, that is, if there's ever such time, Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 2: some people, Okay, when both of you are less horned up.
- 19:04Speaker 1: There it is yeah, yeah that helps. No, But I
- 19:07Speaker 1: like this point that we're making because like, sometimes I
- 19:09Speaker 1: feel like we talk about sex as if it's just
- 19:11Speaker 1: a mechanical thing. It's like working out. It's like, yeah,
- 19:14Speaker 1: you know, I just don't like to do it as
- 19:15Speaker 1: much as you do, Like, oh, I get it, and
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know, like I don't like slurpies. You know, like
- 19:18Speaker 1: it's just this thing that's like this objective third thing
- 19:20Speaker 1: that we're describing that's just a mechanism. And it's like, truthfully,
- 19:24Speaker 1: it's this feeling of that you desire me, and therefore
- 19:27Speaker 1: there's validation and affirmation in that, and that I have
- 19:30Speaker 1: value in your eyes, Like that's a human quality. And
- 19:32Speaker 1: if I'm with somebody that doesn't have any desire for
- 19:34Speaker 1: me and you just see me as your friend, that
- 19:37Speaker 1: is deflating. It's hurtful and isn't just a question of
- 19:39Speaker 1: whether you like the physicality of sex. It's a question
- 19:43Speaker 1: of do are you attracted to me? Do you do
- 19:45Speaker 1: you have that energy toward me? And is it bad
- 19:47Speaker 1: that I have that energy towards you? Am I always
- 19:49Speaker 1: going to feel ashamed or guilty if I'm bringing you
- 19:52Speaker 1: my sexual interest and you're rejecting me, or I feel
- 19:55Speaker 1: like I'm attacking you and I'm predatory for that. So
- 19:58Speaker 1: there's a lot here that I think a couple would
- 20:01Speaker 1: need to unpack. The number one ask that I think
- 20:03Speaker 1: that everybody was saying is taking that posture of curiosity
- 20:06Speaker 1: but also insisting on some clarification and not saying, let's
- 20:10Speaker 1: so writer. The thing that I am most worried about
- 20:12Speaker 1: for you is taking a wait and see approach and
- 20:15Speaker 1: just like, yeah, i'll get we'll find out when it
- 20:18Speaker 1: organically arrives. I don't like that because it could be
- 20:22Speaker 1: a system where it never organically arrives, and then you're
- 20:25Speaker 1: left wondering are you a responsive sexual person? Where I
- 20:28Speaker 1: need to kind of initiate, and it's this constant Russian
- 20:31Speaker 1: roulette of like, I guess I should try again and
- 20:33Speaker 1: see if this time it fires, and like, I don't
- 20:35Speaker 1: like anybody being that posture. So I think if a
- 20:37Speaker 1: person's going to show up to a relationship and say
- 20:40Speaker 1: I have either a hyper sex drive or a hypo
- 20:43Speaker 1: sex drive. Because you're out of the normal range and
- 20:46Speaker 1: you're aware of that, I kind of feel like it's
- 20:48Speaker 1: your responsibility to sit down, develop a lot of personal
- 20:51Speaker 1: insight and give me the user's manual and tell me
- 20:53Speaker 1: how to be a good partner to you and what
- 20:54Speaker 1: do you need from me? And what do you not need?
- 20:56Speaker 1: When would it work? When would it not work? How
- 20:57Speaker 1: can I tell and if I need more clarification, I
- 21:01Speaker 1: needed to be okay to talk to you about that
- 21:02Speaker 1: without that conversation itself being threatening, So that curious approach,
- 21:06Speaker 1: but a partner who's willing to step forward.
- 21:08Speaker 3: And I think I think you can navigate the gap
- 21:11Speaker 3: between a high sex drive and a moderate to low
- 21:15Speaker 3: sex drive. I think where you have a big problem
- 21:19Speaker 3: is someone with high sex drive and someone with no
- 21:21Speaker 3: sex drive. Right, that becomes very problem.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Anything else you can kind of navigate some some sort
- 21:28Speaker 4: of answer, some sort of.
- 21:30Speaker 3: And then if it's high sex drive with high sex drive,
- 21:32Speaker 3: then you've got like, how do we hold down.
- 21:34Speaker 2: A job.
- 21:36Speaker 4: You stay hydrated?
- 21:39Speaker 1: It's a desert out that, how do we wash all
- 21:42Speaker 1: the sheets? Yeah, how do we avoid.
- 21:44Speaker 4: The baby oil.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Baby Oil. Anyway, Writer, this is a really good question,
- 21:55Speaker 1: and you know, there's so many variations to this, and again,
- 21:57Speaker 1: I just want to remind the general audience if you
- 21:59Speaker 1: if you just listen to a through your regular podcast app,
- 22:01Speaker 1: you're not part of the Patreon community. One of the
- 22:02Speaker 1: things you're mostly missing out on at the at the
- 22:04Speaker 1: chat level and the discord is the conversation. I love
- 22:07Speaker 1: going into the episode descriptions in our discord and watching
- 22:10Speaker 1: listeners kind of dialogue over these same questions and share
- 22:13Speaker 1: their personal experiences and give that lived advice from different angles.
- 22:16Speaker 1: So many different people have chimed in on these kinds
- 22:18Speaker 1: of questions before, and people in our server have been like, Hey,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I am asexual. Here's how I would interpret that answer,
- 22:23Speaker 1: Here's how I do relationships. Very interesting, unique perspectives that
- 22:27Speaker 1: we would never think to say on the show. So
- 22:29Speaker 1: that's really a wealth of information to writer. If you're
- 22:32Speaker 1: not already part of that, I really hope you'll go
- 22:33Speaker 1: find it because I think that's great. But congratulations on
- 22:36Speaker 1: your new relationship, and I hope that you find the
- 22:39Speaker 1: correct amount of pound that you need.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Worst case scenario if this doesn't get worked out between
- 22:45Speaker 3: the two of you. Next time you're in Vegas, stop
- 22:47Speaker 3: by the studio and let the four of us pound.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Are we offering episodes of this?
- 22:53Speaker 2: I wasn't going to say that.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I was going to say, yeah, you know, mediate, but
- 22:57Speaker 1: that's fine to mediate run a train. Look, we're here
- 23:01Speaker 1: to help what people accuse us of some ship, all right,
- 23:05Speaker 1: And as we told the judge, your honor, we're just
- 23:08Speaker 1: here to help. Time for commercial, That's right, We're gonna

- 23:38Speaker 4: I'm gonna try and cheat.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I know, I'm gonna turn this over. Our trivia theme
- 23:44Speaker 2: it is Nick America Marca.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Fuck yeah, coming to save the motherfucking day, all right?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Uh?
- 23:52Speaker 3: Jim, Yes, this state is the only US state with
- 23:58Speaker 3: a Spanish state motto.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I feel like you're hiding geography bullshit under the banner
- 24:03Speaker 1: of patriotism, and I'm upset about it.
- 24:06Speaker 3: State you asking you to locate it or what it's
- 24:09Speaker 3: major river.
- 24:09Speaker 1: It's going be like American history ship or something cool. Well, okay,
- 24:13Speaker 1: so it's a Spanish named state.
- 24:15Speaker 3: No, it's a US state. It's the only US state
- 24:18Speaker 3: with a Spanish state motto.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 24:21Speaker 2: States have state mottos.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Like Nevada has, like, oh yeah, all for our country
- 24:26Speaker 1: something like that battle Born or something.
- 24:27Speaker 2: It's one of those.
- 24:29Speaker 1: All right meets Nevada. All right Spanish? I mean, so
- 24:33Speaker 1: you got Florida down there or the other one's New Mexico.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I feel like that's pretty okay, give me New Mexico. No, definitely,
- 24:40Speaker 1: I would like options.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Uh you could have had ship.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I would like options, which damaged All for our country
- 24:47Speaker 1: is the Nevada motto? Okay, a the one that Jim said.
- 24:52Speaker 1: It's definitely not New Mexico.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Right, shit, b Vermont, it's Vermont, Montana. It's obviously Vermont, California.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Take Vermont. Ooh, I'll go California.
- 25:04Speaker 2: No, okay, windboll.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Fell for the same trap. It's where the white.
- 25:08Speaker 3: People live Vermont or Montana, Montana, damn Montana.
- 25:17Speaker 4: I cannot give that.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 25:23Speaker 1: What is the motto, Nick, Yeah, the motto it's the
- 25:25Speaker 1: motto with you, which means gold.
- 25:31Speaker 4: It was like gold something. Huh.
- 25:33Speaker 1: So I thought plaza just meant plate I think that's plateau.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Yeah, plata, Okay, I think a plateau is the like
- 25:42Speaker 2: a mountain with the top cut off.
- 25:46Speaker 1: That's no. No, I think that's the.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Animal with like the bill.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yes, somewhat, the aquatic mammal.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, plato found in found in Montana.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yes, that's yes, exactly, Jacob.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yes, the historic Route sixty six ran from Chicago to
- 26:01Speaker 3: Santa Monica, California.
- 26:02Speaker 2: True crossed how many states?
- 26:05Speaker 1: Oh?
- 26:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Take options options five six, seven, eight five six Where
- 26:13Speaker 3: from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica.
- 26:17Speaker 1: California to Chicago.
- 26:19Speaker 4: I didn't think I would have gone that.
- 26:20Speaker 1: It doesn't just hook.
- 26:21Speaker 4: I thought it was just a Texas or something like
- 26:24Speaker 4: it probably didn't.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Eight eight.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Wow, well done, all right, Whitney. In what year was
- 26:33Speaker 3: the thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery ratified?
- 26:37Speaker 1: False?
- 26:39Speaker 2: Oh?
- 26:39Speaker 4: I just saw this or not? Too long ago. I
- 26:42Speaker 4: guess options act.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Like you're watching documentaries.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Eighteen twenty one, eighteen sixty five, eighteen eighty eight, eighteen
- 26:50Speaker 3: ninety two.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Goddamn, yeah, just shoot, just shoot from hip.
- 26:56Speaker 4: She's trying to cheat eighteen ninety two, Your son of
- 26:59Speaker 4: a bitch.
- 26:59Speaker 1: No own to the laptop she just looked at. Or
- 27:02Speaker 1: she's staring at your dis looking at your dick or
- 27:05Speaker 1: the laptop. Either way, it's not really my business, but
- 27:07Speaker 1: I'm upset if.
- 27:08Speaker 4: It's the first to look at a glance over, just
- 27:11Speaker 4: in case a little dick.
- 27:13Speaker 2: All you up?
- 27:13Speaker 4: But that was the one.
- 27:15Speaker 2: You can cheat on? Beat.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I don't give you ship. Do you hear that?
- 27:19Speaker 3: Peer?
- 27:19Speaker 2: This is about trivia. It's all about Triviady's taking a
- 27:22Speaker 2: less money each year.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Of this game.
- 27:27Speaker 1: It's more important than anyone's relationship.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I don't want to hear otherwise.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Okay, I'll be damn you cheat on me.
- 27:34Speaker 2: You gotta guess?
- 27:35Speaker 1: Oh what was what did you guess?
- 27:36Speaker 4: You don't.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Eighteen twenty one, eighteen sixty five, eighteen eighty eight or
- 27:42Speaker 3: eighteen ninety two give.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Me sixty five? Yes, yeah, go watch your Lincoln.
- 27:48Speaker 2: That's how you know that.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I don't watch what I was going to put. I
- 27:51Speaker 3: watched not like four sixty five sixty six, but then
- 27:54Speaker 3: I was like, no, I know my audience.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, Jacob's guys, it's not going to be ultra competitive.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Yeah. I only know shit because I watch movies. That's
- 28:04Speaker 1: one hundred percent of I know.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Thanks God, I got that one.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Are you even myself?
- 28:10Speaker 2: Love shit?
- 28:12Speaker 1: Struggling with loneliness, Hi, I'm struggling with being lonely. I'm
- 28:17Speaker 1: thirty one. I've been broken up from my son's father
- 28:20Speaker 1: for almost a year now. Our son is three and
- 28:22Speaker 1: special needs suspected autism, and he's non verbalish. He's just
- 28:26Speaker 1: got one word right now, and I'm his primary caregiver.
- 28:30Speaker 1: His dad gets him once a week. I moved a
- 28:32Speaker 1: city away from my friends and family to be with
- 28:34Speaker 1: my ex when we were dating, and I stay here
- 28:37Speaker 1: now because my son's pre K school is here and
- 28:40Speaker 1: his babysitter and his dad. I have three close friends
- 28:43Speaker 1: I've had most of my life, but they all struggle
- 28:45Speaker 1: with mental or physical health issues and aren't able to
- 28:48Speaker 1: talk or hang out a lot. I feel bad bothering
- 28:50Speaker 1: them with my problems because I know they have so
- 28:53Speaker 1: much going on, and half the time when I go
- 28:55Speaker 1: to talk to them, they aren't available, which I totally understand.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I have a therapist I see and she's wonderful, but
- 29:01Speaker 1: she's not a friend.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Of course.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I've tried to make new friends but haven't been successful.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I'm not interested in dating. I lean on my work
- 29:09Speaker 1: mom and work dad a lot, but sometimes I feel
- 29:12Speaker 1: bad if I overshare. I have a pretty tight schedule,
- 29:16Speaker 1: so it's hard to make time. And while I do
- 29:18Speaker 1: see my family some I find myself very lonely. I
- 29:21Speaker 1: find myself wondering what people I watch or listen to
- 29:25Speaker 1: would think about my problems or my day. Like you, guys,
- 29:28Speaker 1: I guess I reminisce a lot about my past and
- 29:31Speaker 1: have imagined conversations with people I used to know in
- 29:34Speaker 1: my head. I don't really see an end in sight
- 29:36Speaker 1: to my loneliness. I'm trying to just work on myself
- 29:39Speaker 1: right now and try to be the best mom I
- 29:42Speaker 1: can be, and try to remember those positive changes in
- 29:44Speaker 1: my life as I see my son improve, as I
- 29:47Speaker 1: lose weight and eat healthier. I just can't escape this
- 29:50Speaker 1: feeling of being alone. I feel sad and isolated and
- 29:53Speaker 1: like I'm really just talking to myself a lot of
- 29:56Speaker 1: the time. Do you all have any advice? Thanks for
- 29:58Speaker 1: having a wonderful podcast. Truly do make a difference. Sincerely,
- 30:02Speaker 1: Anonymous pronouns are she and her and PS if possible,
- 30:05Speaker 1: save this for one. Whitney's going to be on really
- 30:07Speaker 1: like her advice. Oh, no accounting for tastes. I guess
- 30:12Speaker 1: it's fine this. So we were all discussing before recording
- 30:16Speaker 1: that this sounded super familiar. So at a minimum, we
- 30:18Speaker 1: know we've had a question in the past that rings
- 30:21Speaker 1: a bell about this. We're hoping we didn't reread the
- 30:23Speaker 1: same question from the past.
- 30:24Speaker 3: It's also possible that we've seen it when it came
- 30:29Speaker 3: in and shuffled yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 3: And then because so we're also very inet is what
- 30:36Speaker 3: I'm saying, we're well oiled machine.
- 30:39Speaker 4: I'm hearing mistakes made.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Okay, we need to make her do this ship. Why
- 30:43Speaker 1: are we doing anything? A production assistant and she just
- 30:48Speaker 1: sends us the fucking.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Script Patreon dot com slash therapy you friends like whatever, whatever.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 30:59Speaker 4: I barely got on the Patreon like a few months ago.
- 31:04Speaker 1: So this writer specifically wants your advice on so as
- 31:07Speaker 1: also a woman with no friends.
- 31:10Speaker 4: You know, wow, wait to call me out. I was
- 31:15Speaker 4: gonna say, call me.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Be my friend, Paton, Right, we'll be friends.
- 31:19Speaker 4: I know. No, this this whole like loneliness epidemic. I
- 31:23Speaker 4: mean not to sound cliche, but it's a real thing.
- 31:26Speaker 4: I think being an adult moving to new places that
- 31:31Speaker 4: in itself is happening more than ever, like just moving
- 31:33Speaker 4: away from family. And in this case, you were trying
- 31:37Speaker 4: to you were with your ex at the time, if
- 31:39Speaker 4: I'm reading that right or hearing that right, So you
- 31:42Speaker 4: were doing this for your family, and then now you
- 31:43Speaker 4: have a child together, you can't just I mean some
- 31:46Speaker 4: people can't be.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Legally, probably can't. But also resources are there.
- 31:49Speaker 4: For the kids exactly. Resources are there for your kid
- 31:52Speaker 4: that needs them and is comfortable in the space they're at.
- 31:55Speaker 4: So it would probably be a big deal to upprove
- 31:57Speaker 4: your kid. And so you're kind of duck a little bit,
- 32:01Speaker 4: is what I'm hearing. I mean, when it comes to
- 32:05Speaker 4: making new friends, I kind of want to go the
- 32:07Speaker 4: route of normalizing for half a minute. I mean, you
- 32:10Speaker 4: have a three year old, like you're in somewhat high
- 32:16Speaker 4: needs three year old, potential special needs. I mean that
- 32:19Speaker 4: is tough. That's like a tough It's already tough for
- 32:22Speaker 4: even friends of mine that move out of state, move
- 32:24Speaker 4: to another state. We'll chat every now and then, and
- 32:26Speaker 4: they're like friendly people, like very friendly, outgoing, extroverted people,
- 32:30Speaker 4: and they still struggle to make friends in new states
- 32:33Speaker 4: for quite a while. I remember when I moved to Nevada,
- 32:37Speaker 4: it was really challenging to like make friends, I would say,
- 32:40Speaker 4: for a year or two, like it just offut. I'm
- 32:44Speaker 4: very off putting. I get people's space. I smell funny,
- 32:48Speaker 4: so that doesn't help either.
- 32:50Speaker 1: It's just not good aggressive.
- 32:52Speaker 4: I know, God, is that what you always meet behind
- 32:56Speaker 4: my back?
- 32:57Speaker 1: It is? We tell you when we're doing that, it's
- 33:05Speaker 1: front of your face.
- 33:08Speaker 4: So I guess a part of me I think even
- 33:11Speaker 4: said this and there you know it won't it won't
- 33:13Speaker 4: last forever. I mean, things will get better. I want
- 33:17Speaker 4: to just say that there that this sounds like just
- 33:20Speaker 4: a tough time in your life. So that's like just
- 33:25Speaker 4: the start of like what I have to say. But
- 33:28Speaker 4: I mean, we have the go to advice we share
- 33:30Speaker 4: I think a lot, which is like, oh, you know,
- 33:32Speaker 4: go to meet up groups and all this stuff. The
- 33:34Speaker 4: number one thing I hear from clients that I work
- 33:37Speaker 4: with who are struggling with this is it's just a
- 33:39Speaker 4: lot of effort. It's so much effort to put into
- 33:43Speaker 4: creating a friendship and you're not sure if it will
- 33:47Speaker 4: pan out, or if they'll call, or I hear this
- 33:50Speaker 4: a lot like, oh we were we were getting on great,
- 33:53Speaker 4: they just like kind of ghosted me, or you know,
- 33:56Speaker 4: just I don't even know what I did. It's rough
- 33:58Speaker 4: out there, So so I just want to throw out
- 34:01Speaker 4: there that it is a lot of work to put
- 34:03Speaker 4: into creating friendships, creating connections, and if you're in a
- 34:06Speaker 4: space where maybe you have a lot of other things
- 34:09Speaker 4: going on, this may not be the era. Like just
- 34:13Speaker 4: for now that you're able to do that. I would
- 34:16Speaker 4: also say, like whatever for people with kids, Jim, you
- 34:20Speaker 4: can let me know if you have any input on this.
- 34:22Speaker 4: But at least to got dogs, you know what, this
- 34:26Speaker 4: is fair for dogs? You go you don't take your
- 34:28Speaker 4: dogs out of their house.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Though it's a very neat.
- 34:33Speaker 4: They're introverted docs.
- 34:35Speaker 2: They're just a lot, They're a lot. I'll just.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Well, what I was going to say was like, I
- 34:41Speaker 4: don't know, connecting with people like at the park, or
- 34:45Speaker 4: you know, since since your child's a lot younger, or
- 34:48Speaker 4: maybe through his class or their classes, like your kids classes,
- 34:51Speaker 4: if you have other parents that know you're going through,
- 34:53Speaker 4: you can kind of connect on that. And I hear
- 34:55Speaker 4: that with clients I have with children with autism or
- 34:58Speaker 4: who are on the spectrum, it can feel extra lonely,
- 35:02Speaker 4: like I'm just going through this trial kind of on
- 35:05Speaker 4: my own, and because every child's so different, so I
- 35:09Speaker 4: have seen for them, like going out meeting others who
- 35:13Speaker 4: are kind of in similar situations.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Support groups for parents of children's special needs. Right, there's
- 35:18Speaker 1: a lot of mommy and me groups, yeah.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Are sometimes What I hear with those is that it
- 35:23Speaker 4: gets very it becomes very much about like I don't know,
- 35:29Speaker 4: like the struggle of each individual kids, rather than the
- 35:33Speaker 4: adults connecting the right.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Always about the kids. Yeah's true, we're not friends so
- 35:37Speaker 1: much as we're you'd have to get past that.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I'm not saying it's impossible.
- 35:40Speaker 2: You have to.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Like, I have a few friends that have kids with
- 35:43Speaker 1: special needs.
- 35:44Speaker 2: One one good friend of ours, she has a son
- 35:46Speaker 2: on the on the spectrum, and uh and like the
- 35:49Speaker 2: whole the whole nine, Like did the in udro testing
- 35:52Speaker 2: and everything and everything came up negative and then the
- 35:55Speaker 2: thousand to one shot and yeah, all the stuff.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Yeah, just real time, real tough, over and over again. Ed.
- 36:01Speaker 1: You know, just a great, great kid.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Uh.
- 36:04Speaker 2: But you know, she finds a lot of friends in
- 36:07Speaker 2: other special needs parents because they have a real understanding
- 36:11Speaker 2: of what her day to day life looks like. Right,
- 36:13Speaker 2: So when she says like, you know, hey, let's make
- 36:15Speaker 2: plans for Saturday, Uh, everyone is aware that those plans
- 36:20Speaker 2: are very tenuous at that. Everyone just knows that. Everyone
- 36:24Speaker 2: just has that information already. There's no explaining any of that.
- 36:26Speaker 2: It's just like, yeah, yeah, we're gonna we're gonna hopefully
- 36:28Speaker 2: do something on Saturday.
- 36:30Speaker 3: I think those groups are a great jumping off point. Yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 3: Like they're a great plump place to meet people. And
- 36:36Speaker 3: then from there then you can kind of decide which
- 36:38Speaker 3: ones you kind of click with and kind of start when.
- 36:41Speaker 2: She kind of practice for putting yourself out there and
- 36:45Speaker 2: making some friends and everything.
- 36:46Speaker 3: I mean, just in general, I think when it comes
- 36:49Speaker 3: to just making friends, even if we're not talking about
- 36:51Speaker 3: being a parent or even being a parent of a
- 36:53Speaker 3: child with special needs, but like just making friends in general,
- 36:57Speaker 3: I've always found that the best way is being environments
- 37:00Speaker 3: where you're around people in situations where you don't set
- 37:05Speaker 3: it up or you don't schedule it. Okay, you know,
- 37:07Speaker 3: so like, you know, I made these connections because we
- 37:11Speaker 3: were always at the same place doing the size.
- 37:14Speaker 1: We keep bumping into each other.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah, like I don't we don't have to call and say,
- 37:17Speaker 3: hey let's go hang out or hey let's go do this.
- 37:19Speaker 3: I just see the same.
- 37:20Speaker 2: People over and over.
- 37:21Speaker 3: I agree, and then from there it's like, oh, hey,
- 37:25Speaker 3: I'm going to do this thing. You want to come
- 37:26Speaker 3: with me, and then you kind of start forming relationships
- 37:29Speaker 3: that way.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I want you to rewind your podcast machine just
- 37:32Speaker 2: a few seconds when Nick first started talking about it,
- 37:34Speaker 2: and I want you to assume that Nick was talking
- 37:36Speaker 2: about the glory Hole.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Yeah, we're talking about the gloryhole. That was such an
- 37:41Speaker 1: interesting descriptions. That's where I meet everybody. You're gonna you're
- 37:44Speaker 1: gonna make me actually listen to one of my want
- 37:48Speaker 1: to you know, this is really good advice. I like
- 37:52Speaker 1: this idea of like making Yeah, the glory of course,
- 37:55Speaker 1: that's where the number one social lice. It's the old,
- 37:57Speaker 1: the old glory whole gloryhole where I meet everybody. No,
- 38:00Speaker 1: but I like this idea of like meeting people incidentally,
- 38:02Speaker 1: meeting people in this like ancillary way that you're not
- 38:05Speaker 1: targeting them, you're not one on wanting, but you're sort
- 38:07Speaker 1: of like gathering. But I also think what's interesting is
- 38:09Speaker 1: like our definition of friendship. I don't I can't know
- 38:14Speaker 1: if it's changed through time.
- 38:16Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Older people tell me that friendships have changed over time,
- 38:21Speaker 1: and I feel like that's the general critique of like
- 38:23Speaker 1: the Internet age, is that everything has changed as far
- 38:26Speaker 1: as how deep our relationships are. And maybe it's a
- 38:29Speaker 1: lifespan thing. Maybe it's not generationally, maybe it's an American thing.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Maybe it's like our friendships when you are younger very
- 38:34Speaker 1: very important and like they're very deep and they're very like,
- 38:38Speaker 1: you know, even though you might not know everything about
- 38:39Speaker 1: this person, like you put a lot of connection energy
- 38:42Speaker 1: on that person. And maybe part of adultification is like
- 38:45Speaker 1: slowly just like I feel like in my world, I
- 38:47Speaker 1: was just put my daughter to bed this this weekend
- 38:50Speaker 1: and we were chatting and she was like, oh, what
- 38:51Speaker 1: are you doing? I think it was last night and
- 38:52Speaker 1: she's like, what are you doing tomorrow, And I said, oh, yea,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I'm in a record and sort of doing. And she
- 38:56Speaker 1: just got curious. She's about ten, and she's like trying
- 38:58Speaker 1: to get all your names right.
- 39:00Speaker 3: You know.
- 39:00Speaker 1: She hears me talk about you, but not a lot,
- 39:02Speaker 1: Like I just say, oh, like I'll be tell my
- 39:04Speaker 1: wife like, oh, I'm gonna go to the bar with
- 39:05Speaker 1: Nick afterward, like okay, cool, and so like that's about it.
- 39:07Speaker 1: So my daughter's picked up your names over the years,
- 39:10Speaker 1: and so she just like decided to ask questions about you.
- 39:13Speaker 1: And so she's like, so, which one's Nick? You know,
- 39:16Speaker 1: like tell me about that. And it's like you've met
- 39:17Speaker 1: mister Nick, you know. And what do we do with
- 39:19Speaker 1: Jim brings his daughter to work there?
- 39:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 39:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I did that once and Nick has forbidden me
- 39:24Speaker 1: from ever doing it again. The agreement of pod therapy
- 39:27Speaker 1: rests in this one agreement.
- 39:29Speaker 3: No, I think I think now would be better your
- 39:31Speaker 3: kids are older now.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Nick and I. Over the years, we've established
- 39:37Speaker 1: two agreements to continue pot therapy. It started with he
- 39:40Speaker 1: agrees never to beat me up, and so that's also
- 39:42Speaker 1: why that's never happened. If you like, what's the deal,
- 39:45Speaker 1: Like how is he never just caught a fist? That
- 39:47Speaker 1: was an agreement? And then the other one happened several
- 39:49Speaker 1: years in whenever I brought my kids once to a
- 39:51Speaker 1: recording because we were stuck on time, it just had
- 39:54Speaker 1: to happen. It did not go well, And and then
- 39:56Speaker 1: afterward Nick was like, so that's the second agreement now,
- 39:59Speaker 1: and now the first one is contingent.
- 40:01Speaker 2: On the second.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I don't want to catch Yeah, these amendments have been
- 40:05Speaker 1: the second amendment of second.
- 40:09Speaker 3: If you if you break that other amendment, I'm gonna
- 40:11Speaker 3: have to learn how to throw fists just so I
- 40:13Speaker 3: can break that other one.
- 40:15Speaker 1: You just fake it long enough to scare me. It
- 40:18Speaker 1: don't work. I think I'll cry.
- 40:21Speaker 2: The fear of thinking it could happen.
- 40:23Speaker 1: That's most of it.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Once I throw the first one and the open not
- 40:28Speaker 2: that bad, that's all right.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Wait a minute, I could take three of these. It's
- 40:32Speaker 3: like a kid like fearing the deep end of the pool.
- 40:35Speaker 3: I've been afraid of this this whole time.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Fun My daughter was asking about you guys. I'm like
- 40:41Speaker 1: going over. You're like, okay, so the nick and blah
- 40:43Speaker 1: blah blah. And she's mostly interested in how many pets
- 40:45Speaker 1: you all have. So I'm like, ohm, going Jacobs, because
- 40:47Speaker 1: does he have dogs? I'm like, yeah, you have dogs.
- 40:49Speaker 1: They're like corkies. I think it's like, okay, what are
- 40:51Speaker 1: their names, like funk? I don't know. They're nice dog definitely,
- 40:55Speaker 1: I definitely not I said they were, so I lied
- 40:57Speaker 1: to your daughter. So yeah, I'm explaining what animal interactions
- 41:01Speaker 1: if you have, because that was the most interesting thing
- 41:02Speaker 1: about each of you. In her opinion. The ducks thing
- 41:04Speaker 1: was a big thing. She doesn't have ducks. She has
- 41:08Speaker 1: ducks in like an illegal way.
- 41:09Speaker 2: The ducks have her. Yeah, the relationship.
- 41:14Speaker 1: I don't know that she has a possessive over them.
- 41:17Speaker 1: But no, It's just funny because as I'm talking about
- 41:19Speaker 1: each of you, then my daughter goes, do you have
- 41:21Speaker 1: any other friends?
- 41:24Speaker 2: And I was like, I don't.
- 41:25Speaker 1: First off, I don't like your tones. You know, I'm
- 41:28Speaker 1: like immediately tearing up, like what do you mean? I
- 41:29Speaker 1: don't know what that one other is doing. I was like, well, yeah,
- 41:32Speaker 1: you've you've met mister Eddie and she goes, yeah, you
- 41:35Speaker 1: like grew up with Eddie, right, and like yeah, she
- 41:37Speaker 1: goes yeah, But I mean, like other friends.
- 41:38Speaker 2: You're like all of your friends is mister and missus
- 41:41Speaker 2: to your to your kids.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I don't like my kids referring to people by their
- 41:45Speaker 1: first names, so I like them to try to get
- 41:48Speaker 1: the mister or miss in there when they can. If
- 41:51Speaker 1: they talk about you to me, I don't mind using
- 41:53Speaker 1: a first name, but I don't like them getting in
- 41:55Speaker 1: the habit in case they you know, see you. But anyway,
- 41:57Speaker 1: so if sir, yeah, no, I don't yeah, yeah, yeah yeah,
- 42:01Speaker 1: as my children know, no content look in the eyes.
- 42:04Speaker 1: He doesn't like that.
- 42:04Speaker 4: But no.
- 42:05Speaker 1: It's just really funny because she was like, yeah, do
- 42:06Speaker 1: you have any other flaws? I don't know, not really,
- 42:10Speaker 1: And I'm just sitting there thinking about it, and I'm like, yeah,
- 42:13Speaker 1: you three are probably my closest friends, mostly because we
- 42:16Speaker 1: have a shared project that I see you for two
- 42:18Speaker 1: hours week and that's the only job.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Because we're supposed to explain to your daughter that this
- 42:26Speaker 2: was the reason that you were very afraid that we're
- 42:28Speaker 2: gonna not have a studio in person.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Why are you crying about the studio there? Do you
- 42:34Speaker 1: even like your podcast? Like, no, I don't care if
- 42:36Speaker 1: it closes tomorrow. Just I just really just don't want
- 42:38Speaker 1: these guys stuff hanging out with me. But no, it
- 42:40Speaker 1: just really made me reflect on like the concept of
- 42:42Speaker 1: deep friendship and like that that like I imagine like
- 42:45Speaker 1: you have these like perimeters, like these little circles around
- 42:48Speaker 1: you of like how intimate your friendships are. And it
- 42:51Speaker 1: for you three to be told you're probably my closest
- 42:54Speaker 1: friends is I'm sure a little off putting for you
- 42:56Speaker 1: because like we're not close, Like what are you talking about?
- 42:58Speaker 1: Why would you use that word?
- 42:59Speaker 3: And it's like you notice we're all shifting in our chair,
- 43:03Speaker 3: everybody's you all start checking immediately started checking their phone,
- 43:07Speaker 3: trying to wait for this moment to pass, Like is
- 43:09Speaker 3: he gonna shut up, He's gonna move on?
- 43:11Speaker 1: Can we go back to the question now? But no,
- 43:12Speaker 1: just it ring in my ears for a second because
- 43:14Speaker 1: I realized, like we are not very close, but that
- 43:19Speaker 1: is the proximity between me and thewhere if I said
- 43:23Speaker 1: the closest body to Earth is Mars, You're like, but
- 43:25Speaker 1: that's not a close thing at all.
- 43:26Speaker 3: I'm like, I know, I'm ready. I'm ready to go
- 43:30Speaker 3: to top golf whenever you want.
- 43:32Speaker 1: But no, I think that's an interesting part of how
- 43:34Speaker 1: friendships it adapt and like going back to Whitney's point
- 43:37Speaker 1: where I think Whitney was trying to normalize, like, hey,
- 43:39Speaker 1: you have a three year old kid, like, I don't
- 43:41Speaker 1: want you to feel like an outcast. I don't want
- 43:43Speaker 1: you to feel like you don't have friends. And I
- 43:44Speaker 1: think that's the route I'm trying to go on this
- 43:45Speaker 1: circuitously to get back to this point of like I've noticed,
- 43:49Speaker 1: I think, and I don't know if you guys relate
- 43:51Speaker 1: to this. What do you feel like? You're pretty good
- 43:53Speaker 1: at friendship? I feel like you always mention friends that
- 43:55Speaker 1: you're legit staying in touch with I have. I feel
- 43:59Speaker 1: like you may time for friends. I'm fine.
- 44:02Speaker 3: I make I feel like you got a lot of
- 44:03Speaker 3: friends with Most of my friends are golf friends with
- 44:08Speaker 3: a lot of friends too, with the exception of my friends.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Back home in Iowa and me.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Yeah right, and you that was there that Yeah.
- 44:19Speaker 4: I was there.
- 44:21Speaker 2: You know else.
- 44:25Speaker 4: You and I were talking the other day about how
- 44:27Speaker 4: you organize your like not really, but you with your
- 44:33Speaker 4: friends over here. I'm like, look at the doing being
- 44:36Speaker 4: a friend.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and when I don't do it, they don't happen.
- 44:39Speaker 4: Exactly. You got to have one person yeah, yeah, that
- 44:42Speaker 4: person one person.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I'm not that person. I'll never be that person.
- 44:46Speaker 1: You'll go, I'll go. See I'm the guy that will
- 44:48Speaker 1: if you call me, I'll go. Thanks for inviting me, right, Jim,
- 44:52Speaker 1: He'll pretend like he's going invited to Coasta Rica by
- 44:55Speaker 1: Eddie is like I will pay for everything. I was like,
- 44:57Speaker 1: I don't want to. Oh my god.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Bugs.
- 45:04Speaker 2: The reason I'm going to Portugal is because somebody was like, hey,
- 45:07Speaker 2: we've got a house, come stay in it.
- 45:09Speaker 4: But great, perfect Portugal.
- 45:12Speaker 2: You should look saying Okay, had a scorpion in the
- 45:17Speaker 2: house the other day.
- 45:19Speaker 4: Not just in the house, Uh, in Jim's chair that
- 45:22Speaker 4: he it was in Jim's chair.
- 45:24Speaker 1: It was directly over Jim's head.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Is he looking at me? Uh? No, I was in
- 45:30Speaker 2: the shower and uh felt something on my back? You did,
- 45:35Speaker 2: and like reached back and brushed it off, And it
- 45:38Speaker 2: was definitely a scorpion that.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Had somehow like knuck into the shower. He had a
- 45:42Speaker 1: towel around his waist. He put his hand on your
- 45:44Speaker 1: shoulder and you're like, what the fuck.
- 45:45Speaker 2: So here's my bet. My bet is he came in
- 45:49Speaker 2: through the attic and he can't go up there, and
- 45:52Speaker 2: there's like an air vent that seems high they climb.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I don't do they.
- 45:59Speaker 3: In palm trees?
- 46:00Speaker 1: Oh no, well yeah, I don't know.
- 46:03Speaker 4: I didn't know they were seeing one on a shower
- 46:04Speaker 4: curtain before, just in the middle, like, yeah, oh.
- 46:08Speaker 1: That's terrifying. I thought they were kind of just grounders,
- 46:11Speaker 1: like they're not as like climy as some things.
- 46:13Speaker 4: They will if they need to.
- 46:15Speaker 1: I don't think of them as like spiders.
- 46:16Speaker 2: No, they're not.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Okay, they just they can if they have to.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Medium sized guy. Oh Jesus Christ, he got smacked with
- 46:26Speaker 2: a towel. Okay, did you do the whip?
- 46:29Speaker 1: You did the No?
- 46:30Speaker 2: I just kind of like spiraled it right. It was
- 46:32Speaker 2: just quick like brush him away with the towel thing,
- 46:35Speaker 2: one quick smack on the ass. And then I was like,
- 46:38Speaker 2: s J, bring me a shoe, yes, which is not
- 46:41Speaker 2: a weird thing to ask. And the usually when you're
- 46:43Speaker 2: in the shower this again there show only the one.
- 46:50Speaker 2: She comes in there and it's like I've got house
- 46:52Speaker 2: shoes on.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Will that work? So no, bring me a shoe.
- 46:56Speaker 2: And I'm not looking up at im, like I'm looking
- 46:58Speaker 2: directly and never look away because we have of rocks,
- 47:01Speaker 2: Like our floor in the shower is all rocks.
- 47:04Speaker 1: You could lose them, that's it.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I was like, if I take my eye off of him,
- 47:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna lose.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Yes, we saw this, so she brought the shower.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Giant thing on our wall. It's a uh that's our
- 47:14Speaker 4: garden hose. This bug was like two and a half
- 47:17Speaker 4: inches long. It looked like a water I don't know,
- 47:21Speaker 4: but Peter. Peter's like, I go get me a shoe.
- 47:24Speaker 4: That's what made me think of it. And I was like,
- 47:26Speaker 4: I don't think you can kill that with a shoe.
- 47:28Speaker 4: That thing's big, Like you're.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Just gonna piss it off. Yeah, and it's gonna come back.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 4: So he got a box and I scooped it and
- 47:34Speaker 4: he's like, thanks for doing that. I couldn't have. He's
- 47:36Speaker 4: such a whist with bugs.
- 47:37Speaker 1: I'm like to give me so anyway, writers spray for bugs.
- 47:41Speaker 2: We just had the house sprayed the other week, and
- 47:43Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't know, y'all got to come back out.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Yeah, okay.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Usually our surface is really good and inside though inside.
- 47:50Speaker 2: A little maybe I don't know.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Well, that's why the bugs go inside because you're sprayed outside.
- 47:55Speaker 2: That's what that is.
- 47:56Speaker 1: He I just said, he sprays inside.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Not enough. We'll get to getting in there.
- 48:00Speaker 4: Go ahead, okay, So here was My other piece of
- 48:03Speaker 4: advice was for my friends at are long distance because
- 48:06Speaker 4: the writer said they have like two or three friends
- 48:08Speaker 4: they're close with that live far away and your schedules
- 48:10Speaker 4: don't align and all that. One of my favorite apps
- 48:13Speaker 4: is Marco Polo.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Oh do you know this app? No, not a sex app.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Oh, it could be. Depends on who you're bowlowing you.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Exact mental personal training? Do you enough?
- 48:32Speaker 4: Correct?
- 48:34Speaker 1: Always a number? You're gonna have a spike and I'm
- 48:40Speaker 1: going to retire.
- 48:43Speaker 4: PI.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Turns out I was going about this all wrong.
- 48:48Speaker 1: It's cardiodio. No.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Marco Polo is a video app where you record a
- 48:54Speaker 4: video and send it and they can watch it whenever.
- 48:57Speaker 4: It's like Marco polo or whatever. You know.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Okay, But what's great.
- 49:01Speaker 4: About is you can do it anytime of night and
- 49:03Speaker 4: then they can just listen to it or watch it
- 49:05Speaker 4: whenever they can and respond. Like one of my cousins
- 49:09Speaker 4: who lives in Colorado, like we'll sometimes go wild without talking.
- 49:13Speaker 4: Then we'll have a little Marco polo back and forth
- 49:15Speaker 4: for a minute and just update. But it's kind of
- 49:18Speaker 4: nice if you're in that weird in between where someone's
- 49:21Speaker 4: super busy and you just can't get your schedules to
- 49:23Speaker 4: the line.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 49:23Speaker 4: I love it because you get to see their face.
- 49:25Speaker 4: It's like FaceTime, but just little videos.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Not live. You don't have to stop the call, so text.
- 49:33Speaker 4: But the video text yes personal, Yes, I like that.
- 49:36Speaker 4: And it's it has a free version. Obviously you can
- 49:38Speaker 4: pay for like other perks, but it's free. So I
- 49:42Speaker 4: love that. One that helps me stay in touch with
- 49:44Speaker 4: my friends that yeah, live far away on different time zones.
- 49:48Speaker 1: So yeah, And I think one of you had the
- 49:50Speaker 1: advice is Nick was talking about like finding a common
- 49:52Speaker 1: interest and like aggregating around that, and the writer talks jokingly.
- 49:57Speaker 1: They tease themselves in the letter about how they've done
- 50:00Speaker 1: a little bit of parasocial bonding to us, you know,
- 50:02Speaker 1: and saying like, sometimes I feel like you guys are
- 50:04Speaker 1: the only ones that I would talk to, Like I
- 50:05Speaker 1: imagine what it's like talk to you, because I feel
- 50:08Speaker 1: like I listened to you and I get to know
- 50:09Speaker 1: you and we're part of these friendly conversations and like
- 50:12Speaker 1: to me. That is one of the coolest parts of
- 50:14Speaker 1: the new age of Internet relationships and stuff and parasocial
- 50:17Speaker 1: relationships aggregating around a podcast. Yeah, like a lot of
- 50:21Speaker 1: the people that we are just Nick and I at
- 50:23Speaker 1: least or me personally that we are just friendly with
- 50:25Speaker 1: wet or we've met through ICs, ice cream social just
- 50:29Speaker 1: being invited to their in their live things like scoop
- 50:32Speaker 1: Fest coming up this September. Dot com buy your tickets
- 50:36Speaker 1: is a great way to meet real people and become
- 50:38Speaker 1: friends with them and then we talk to them on
- 50:40Speaker 1: the discord and just become like longtime friends. And then
- 50:43Speaker 1: when they're passing through town, they'll just ping us and go, hey,
- 50:45Speaker 1: I'm coming to Vegas. Independent of scoop Fest, Uh, let's
- 50:47Speaker 1: grab a beer, let's get together, let's go to dinner, like,
- 50:49Speaker 1: you know, just want to see.
- 50:50Speaker 2: You guys for something. Do you guys remember last week
- 50:54Speaker 2: when Jim said he was going to come to the
- 50:55Speaker 2: Bucket show. Yeah, yeah, what a great show.
- 50:59Speaker 1: It was good. There was so much improv and I
- 51:03Speaker 1: thought the bucket so many bush the buckets, you know,
- 51:06Speaker 1: there there's a primary bucket, but then there's support buckets,
- 51:10Speaker 1: and I felt like they were all the piano wing
- 51:13Speaker 1: was very pianoful. I just uh, I was, yeah, so
- 51:17Speaker 1: thank you. It was very good, good good. I thought
- 51:19Speaker 1: you played excellent piano. Thank you and uh and trombone
- 51:24Speaker 1: and you guys really should have been there. It was Uh.
- 51:27Speaker 4: I actually did put it on my lendar. I was like,
- 51:29Speaker 4: I'm gonna go. I went to bed at nine o'clock.
- 51:32Speaker 4: I was so tired of it.
- 51:33Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, I was in the post July fourth
- 51:36Speaker 1: that kicks as I was like, yeah, I'm not going
- 51:38Speaker 1: anywhere tonight. Jim needs a full eight hours going to
- 51:42Speaker 1: bed early. But I think that this is a very
- 51:44Speaker 1: relatable thing writer. I mean, obviously, so many humans talk
- 51:47Speaker 1: about this all the time. I think trying to find friendships,
- 51:50Speaker 1: especially during this phase of life with a special needs
- 51:53Speaker 1: child but just a three year old where they just
- 51:55Speaker 1: constantly need you and it's hard to find that time,
- 51:57Speaker 1: and then being a single parent not having that relief.
- 52:00Speaker 1: I just think there's a lot of layers to this.
- 52:02Speaker 1: But I just want to be an encouraging voice, I mean,
- 52:04Speaker 1: and also normalize you know, digital relationships. And we've been
- 52:07Speaker 1: talking about this for a while. We need to get
- 52:09Speaker 1: somebody on our discord to be the official game planner
- 52:13Speaker 1: and get somebody done because we we When I mentioned
- 52:16Speaker 1: it in a previous episode, there's a bunch of people
- 52:18Speaker 1: in the discord said, Jim, do that thing. Like you said,
- 52:20Speaker 1: you want to start it like a game night, and
- 52:22Speaker 1: like here's how you create events, and the Discord people
- 52:24Speaker 1: were trying to tell me to do it. The mistake
- 52:25Speaker 1: they made was trusting me to do that when I
- 52:29Speaker 1: just shout ideas into the void and then if that's
- 52:31Speaker 1: how we have a discord is because I shouted the
- 52:33Speaker 1: idea of the void of Monho built one. It's also
- 52:34Speaker 1: why we have a website. There's a lot of things
- 52:38Speaker 1: that get done because.
- 52:38Speaker 2: We see don't do them.
- 52:40Speaker 1: People are like, okay, they're way too incompetent. I'm going
- 52:42Speaker 1: to do this for them. So somebody please on our
- 52:44Speaker 1: discord create a game night. This person needs to come
- 52:46Speaker 1: join it. Patreon dot com, slash Therapy. For a dollar,
- 52:49Speaker 1: you can be part of our little online community. It's
- 52:51Speaker 1: a great group of people. Good place to talk is
- 52:53Speaker 1: show with folks and we have a lot of chat
- 52:55Speaker 1: room in there. You can turn on your video you
- 52:56Speaker 1: can play video games with other people. It's a lot
- 52:58Speaker 1: of fun, so at least that be one outlet for you.
- 53:01Speaker 1: But thank you for writing in writer. Just know that
- 53:03Speaker 1: we're rooting for you. And I'm sorry that we uh
- 53:06Speaker 1: waited for Whitney for this one. I'm sure you were underwhelmed.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Which is you know, want, want, What are you gonna do?
- 53:12Speaker 1: We're gonna say quick break and when we come back,
- 53:14Speaker 1: we are talking about psych medicine and temmy problems. You're
- 53:18Speaker 1: listening to pod therapy.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Today's episode is Proughty by Jake Schneider, Malia, Richard Macy,
- 53:25Speaker 3: Sonny Boy, Thunder, Cougar Bucket, Scoop, Slipper K, Motherfucker, Sander
- 53:28Speaker 3: Mclaina Capra, and Adam Warren. And if you'd like to
- 53:33Speaker 3: sponsor the show, become a partner at pat patreon dot
- 53:39Speaker 3: com slash.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Before just patreon anything and just give them what I
- 53:45Speaker 1: was gonna open whatever.
- 53:46Speaker 2: God damn.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Jim America.
- 53:52Speaker 3: Which state was the first state to grant women the
- 53:54Speaker 3: right to vote?
- 53:55Speaker 2: They can vote?
- 53:57Speaker 1: Jesus at least in one states? Explained much? All right,
- 54:02Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of women's suffrage. Many options, Wyoming, Vermont, Okay, Wisconsin,
- 54:12Speaker 1: Who or South Carolina? Shit?
- 54:15Speaker 4: I wouldn't get any of those.
- 54:17Speaker 3: I feel like the year was nineteen ninety eight.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Was top of the shots. Beanie babies crushing and women
- 54:30Speaker 1: give me Vermont. I feel like that's super progressive plays.
- 54:33Speaker 1: I feel like they would be way ahead on this ship. No, God,
- 54:35Speaker 1: what damn it, Bernie, you fucked up again? And I
- 54:38Speaker 1: promise you he was there, of course.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Yeah, Jacob, what were the options Wyoming, Vermont, Wisconsin or
- 54:46Speaker 3: South Carolina.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Wisconsin? No, wow, don't it's not gonna be South Carolina.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Let's be real, it's.
- 54:59Speaker 4: Not that Wyoming was the other.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Guest was the other he took Wyoming.
- 55:03Speaker 4: I think wisconsu wom Jesus doesn't seem.
- 55:08Speaker 1: Like it's it, though I could see it happening because
- 55:10Speaker 1: maybe there were just so few people there, like the
- 55:14Speaker 1: women could stay a coup and get the vote.
- 55:16Speaker 4: That's true.
- 55:16Speaker 1: They were just like to have their fun. It's not
- 55:18Speaker 1: going to matter like we're Wyoming.
- 55:20Speaker 2: You know. That's a point for next eighteen sixty nine.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Wow, it was the summer of sixty nine. Jake all
- 55:32Speaker 1: tied it one.
- 55:33Speaker 4: Now, Oh yeah, all.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Right, Jacob.
- 55:37Speaker 3: The Eighteenth Amendment to the US Constitution prohibiting the manufacture
- 55:41Speaker 3: and sale of alcohol within the United States was repealed
- 55:44Speaker 3: by which amendment?
- 55:47Speaker 1: It was the eighteenth that did it. I think it
- 55:50Speaker 1: was the twenty first. Oh that feels they got rid
- 55:53Speaker 1: of it twenty one and it's the drinking age.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Shooting from the best two points.
- 55:59Speaker 3: God love it on.
- 56:04Speaker 4: A week later and history, I'll Gooho, history is the
- 56:07Speaker 4: perfect combination.
- 56:08Speaker 2: I know, right all right. Whitney Yeah.
- 56:12Speaker 3: Born in Eiling, Nevada. She served as the first Lady
- 56:16Speaker 3: from nineteen sixty nine until her husband resigned from office
- 56:20Speaker 3: in August. On August eighth, nineteen seventy four, Oh my god,
- 56:24Speaker 3: we need the first name. Missus Nixon will not be accepted.
- 56:27Speaker 4: I was like, Nixon is it? But what's her first name?
- 56:31Speaker 2: I didn't know she was from Eli, Nevada.
- 56:32Speaker 4: I didn't know that. Options.
- 56:35Speaker 1: I know that he went to Whittier College.
- 56:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't see that.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Okay, what it's a college in whitty Or California. That's
- 56:42Speaker 2: where Richard Dixon went to college. That's where his presidential
- 56:45Speaker 2: library is.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Explains a lot.
- 56:48Speaker 4: Uh.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Elizabeth, Patricia Caroline or Ellen.
- 56:53Speaker 4: Oh boy, it's one of the first two. I feel
- 56:55Speaker 4: like trying to see if Jacob will give me ah.
- 56:58Speaker 4: I don't know the first Elizabeth or what.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Was Patricia, Patricia, Patty Nixon, Lizzie Nixon?
- 57:06Speaker 2: I think Patricia?
- 57:08Speaker 1: Yeah, correct, damn dude. So wait, you've got three and
- 57:14Speaker 1: then got like eight? What you have three and then
- 57:19Speaker 1: you have two? Because you've been two and I've got
- 57:22Speaker 1: one and Nick has one?
- 57:24Speaker 2: Has four? Nick?
- 57:25Speaker 1: Remember when when it falls to Nick, he gets like
- 57:28Speaker 1: a huge rule gets one.
- 57:30Speaker 2: I think I think he's right.
- 57:31Speaker 1: That's nobody's ever said that's right. I don't want it
- 57:35Speaker 1: to be nobody thinks trying to lose you.
- 57:39Speaker 2: I just don't want to.
- 57:43Speaker 1: Ship Nick, and I don't care. It's like medicine and digestion. Hey,
- 57:47Speaker 1: Pod Therapy crew, first time writer here. I've been listening
- 57:50Speaker 1: for a couple of years now, and I really appreciate
- 57:52Speaker 1: all you do for mental health. My wife, my Way,
- 57:57Speaker 1: who I'm just gonna start doing that, whom I love
- 57:59Speaker 1: very much, she might be listening if this is read,
- 58:02Speaker 1: has been on several medications for different mental health conditions
- 58:06Speaker 1: for almost as long as I've known her, which is
- 58:08Speaker 1: a couple months shy of twenty five years now. Wait,
- 58:12Speaker 1: maybe it's been me this whole time. Nice say, and
- 58:16Speaker 1: with the shortage of questions, she wanted to ask if
- 58:18Speaker 1: there is any notable information or perhaps studies on the
- 58:22Speaker 1: longer term effects of mental health medications on the digestive system.
- 58:27Speaker 1: That's all for now, keep up the good work, Anonymous. Nope, sorry,
- 58:31Speaker 1: there's not never been any research.
- 58:33Speaker 4: It'll be fine. Just take some probiotics.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Get This is a good time to bring up our
- 58:39Speaker 3: sponsor ag one.
- 58:41Speaker 4: I'm still using those drops still, I still have a sample. Well,
- 58:46Speaker 4: I was gonna say, I just bought some from Costco
- 58:48Speaker 4: because I was like, I like those peters like me do.
- 58:51Speaker 1: So she's been on the medicines as long as writer
- 58:54Speaker 1: has known her for twenty five years. Yes, and then
- 58:58Speaker 1: I suppose that the tummy stuff just started. I mean
- 59:01Speaker 1: I don't see any reference to how long the tummy
- 59:02Speaker 1: stuff has happened.
- 59:03Speaker 2: Well, well, it sounds like something you're just curious. Yeah,
- 59:06Speaker 2: and you know, basically just asking like, is that is
- 59:09Speaker 2: it possible that that's just a long term effect? Yeah?
- 59:12Speaker 4: Well, and I feel like the gut health is like
- 59:15Speaker 4: very it's trending a lot right now. I'm not like
- 59:18Speaker 4: it's wrong, but just I think it's becoming more talked about.
- 59:23Speaker 1: And aware of it.
- 59:23Speaker 4: They're very aware and some people I've even seen, I
- 59:27Speaker 4: mean I don't know the source or if it's reliable
- 59:29Speaker 4: or anything, but I have heard people say like, oh,
- 59:31Speaker 4: it's just like your second brain or whatever, you know,
- 59:34Speaker 4: like they refer to it like that. So I wonder
- 59:36Speaker 4: if there's just a connection there. Maybe the wife is
- 59:39Speaker 4: going through where they're like, well, I've been on these
- 59:41Speaker 4: medications to help my actual brain, Like how does this
- 59:43Speaker 4: affect my gut health?
- 59:45Speaker 1: And okay, all of that.
- 59:46Speaker 4: I mean, that's kind of how I hear maybe this
- 59:49Speaker 4: question being presented.
- 59:50Speaker 1: And I think it's tough too, because usually I'm looking
- 59:53Speaker 1: for the short term, right, because like we're adding this
- 59:56Speaker 1: to your system, that's usually when we're going to see
- 59:58Speaker 1: a disruption. For somebody to be on medicines for two
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: decades and now they're starting to notice a tummy disruption,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: it's tricky because any medicine that you're taking for decades
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: of time, yeah, there can be some They could have
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: had some small mitigating effect that compounded for every day
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: for twenty five years, and now your stomach lining is weak,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: or there's some kind of like biochemical thing that's disrupting.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not gonna say that I've seen the
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: research on this, but usually I'm going with short term disruption.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Long term that would not be my guess. If we
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: have any pharmacist listeners, I think there's a sizeable pharmacy contingent.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: Why no, we got at least one one. I don't
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: know medications ever change any ingredient that's not like one
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: of the main active ingredients, but is something else that's
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: in there as like a you know, something else that
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: provides some other future for the medication.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: You know, just as like a like did this medication
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: that she's on suddenly get like chemistry the recipe?
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, a small ingredient change that just changed.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: I wouldn't think so. I wouldn't think so either.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: But I know that there's medicines like like take prilosec
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: or on dancetron or whatever for indigestion, right, and so
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: like heartburn, that's one of those ones that you can
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: take in the beginning and then if you if you
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: stick to it long term, it does end up having
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: like a deliriative effect on gut health and bones. Like
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: you can start to get osteoporosis because but it's like
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: one of those medicines like, boy, you have to take
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: that for a long time and really really regularly. But
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: it's one of those medicines that you wouldn't notice any
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: disruption short term, but then long term, sure there are
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: some you know, baggage attached to that. And when it
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: comes to like it's tough because like, psych medicine is
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: such a broad brush, right, Like we're talking about everything
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: from your casual antihistamine like hydroxyzine for anxiety, to an
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: antipsychotic you know, like a lanzapine or something like that,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: and these are all having such different mechanisms of action.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: I mean, anything taken for twenty five years, I think
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: there could be an argument that it's starting to cause
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: some kind of problem.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, there could be a risk for that.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I've never seen a particular research study on it. I
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: know that SSRIs are one of the most longitudinally tested
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: medicines we have, and that just means long term testing
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: over broad broad numbers of people and is generally the
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: safest medicines because people are generally on them for a
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: very long time. Yeah, very long term. We've had them
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: for a long time. So SSRIs are widely celebrated. But
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: no medicine is without you know, its recourse, and if
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: you're on something for decades, is all right?
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I don't know about digestive health. My
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: mind immediately went to sometimes the long term negati effects,
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: negative effects that can happen from yeah, like antipsychotics or
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: like bipolar medications, things that people tend to be on
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: for long periods of time, but not really a lot
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: of digestive reactions.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: That's not something I'm Yeah, I've not worked with anybody
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: that's had digested.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: No problem.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Of course, most of my clients are withdrawing from heroin,
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: so I.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: Don't they're digestive, Like, I don't know, I'm sweating my
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: brains out, shut brains out.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: I want.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: Something, is tell memmy feel something.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: For a while.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: But like some of them are long term stuff like
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: a XANX, like xenic springs. Oh yeah, some of those
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: ones that long term, there there are going to be
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: some noticeable things like cognitive impairment, memory loss, and things
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: like that. So I think the safe bet, writer is
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: that there is no medicine. I think that exists that
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: you can take regularly for decades and they're not over
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: time be some accumulated effect. And I think the stumach
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: and the digestive tract for many of us is this
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: black box of like so many things affect it, and
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: like you see, like the weather, effects of pressure affects
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: it like this, too much seasoning on this thing affected it,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: and they could really mess you up. So I wouldn't
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: be surprised if long term use of these medicines are
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: affecting it. I would also be checking in on things
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: like supplements. I feel like a lot of times people
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: don't even report whatever supplements they're taking to their regular
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: doctor because the doctor says.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: What are you on?
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: And they just tell them the orange bottle and the medication. Yeah,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: And it's like, dude, you need to tell them everything,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: every multi item in how much fucking zinc are you on?
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: I remember my dad, he was God. He thought he
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: was having early on set, like very severe arthritis. He
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: could barely close his hand, it was, he was in
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: so much pain. Everything was just really really bad. And
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: my dad's like, ironically, you wouldn't.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: Know this looking at me.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: He's an athlete, Like he's like a tennis player, like
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: he's always I was a very big disappointment to my dad,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: if you're wondering. But yeah, so like.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Because of that, let yeah, let's dive into that.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Let's do you know what things, Let's let'sp on this
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: this question.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: This is just now.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Fifties, and like he still had a very active lifestyle, basketball, tennis, bowling,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: he was so many things, and then like he just
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: couldn't move. And it'd been going on for months, andything
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: worse and worse and worse, and he'd been meeting with
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: all these doctors and these specialists and they're all turned
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: figured out and they're like, yeah, I guess you might
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: have arthritis when you start talking about like very serious
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: medications for arthritis. And then one day he's randomly at
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: a doctor's obvious he's trying a new doctor or might
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: have been like an endocrinology or something like that, and
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: they're like, what supplements are you on? First doctor to
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: ever ask that. Yeah, And my dad is like one
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: of those guys that like as he'll fucking order ship
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: from India, like he just anything he's heard of that
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: he thinks is cool, He's going to try it, right,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: And he was on like eight gajillion milligrams of vitamin
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: B because he had heard something on a podcast. Yeah,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: and they were like, oh, that's it, that was it. Yeah,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: that's why I have that many milligrams of vitamin B.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Or you're going to have inflammation of the joints vitamin B.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: You're just overdosing on this, and so like, stop that,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: don't take any for a month, let's see what happens.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: And a week later he was perfect. He's like, Oh,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I just got back my whole life. It's like, these
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: are little things that we don't think about. So if
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: your wife's going through all this digestive stuff, just a PSA.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Always make sure you're discussing every vitamin. They are not
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: just benign. Any adults, you need to talk about it.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: Don't take the don't don't take the medication that you've
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: been taking for a couple of decades.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Off the table as far as as potential causes could be.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: But look past that as well. Yeah I like that,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: And don't forget to go see a therapist. We're gonna
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: take any quick break and when we come back, we
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: are wrapping up the show. You are listening to pod therapy.

- 1:06:50Speaker 3: got more America trivia, I myself okay, Jim who was
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: the only US president to also serve as Chief Justice
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: of the Supreme Court?
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Oh my god, Warren, No, wait, that was a Supreme
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Court justice. I'd like to start again. Uh, this person
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: was a Supreme Court justice and president. There was a
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: person who was president first and then left. It's either
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Warren Harding. Part of me thinks it's Roosevelt. But then
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: I'm like, that can't possibly be true. But then part
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: of my brain says it is true, but it's not true. Jim,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: don't believe that. Give me options, John Adams, James Monroe,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: William Howard Taft or Calvin Coolidge. Fuck me, none of
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: my thoughts were on there. Let me Taft Well, I
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: was really hoping that was coming to me.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: I fucking knew that, And I had to build a
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: bigger bathtub for him in the White House because he
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: was fat, really fat fat.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: The world.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: They've never seen him. Facts that I know about Taft
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: and Supreme Court justice.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: I was seen the thing going around about like comparing
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: people in their thirties back like fifty years ago. People
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: in their thirties now you look at it just like infants.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Yeah, just crazy.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: They lives.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: Go fetch their own, all right, Jacob. Which states other
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: than Texas was an independent republic before joining the US California,
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: Oh final answer, yeah, no, oh, options, Okay, Vermont, California, Florida, Oregon.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: At least I was in the options. You're that's close
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: enough to make the options. Boy, it's the.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Worst when you get it wrong for the listeners.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: Options.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: Listeners are screaming, whay, but Hawaii was a kingdom.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: Oh that's fair, yeah, listener, way to read the because
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: you're right, it was conquered. You said the other ones
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: were Florida.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Joined in the traditional sense?
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: They were? They were they joined in the American way.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Yea very American, he.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: Said, Florida, Oregon, Vermont were the other ones, Vermont, Florida
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: and Oregon. Yes, Florida.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: No, every answer, have you noticed that a lot of Vermont.
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: It's gonna be orgon a lot of Definitely, they're doing
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: their own ship.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: God, they were independent. It's definitely organ. It's gotta be.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: You're alive, am I, And you are? And you never
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: had rollers?
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: Son of a bitch?
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Did you say? What was your answer?
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: I don't know?
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: God.
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: Options again, four options are Vermont, California, Florida, or Oregon.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: You know California was guess.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: I don't know what Whitney said, it's organ Jim give me.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: Vermont is Vermont formerly known as the Vermont Republic from
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: seven teen seventy seven to seventeen.
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: I thought Texas was the only one, all right, Whitney came.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Which Texas with Texas thinks they're.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: The only one.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's the message. That's what our history both says,
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: because we make up the history.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Yeah, which we fucking false flagged the ship out of Texas.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: My daughter just had to do a book report in Texas,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: and she came to be horrified because this is the
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: first time, at fourth grade that she realized maybe America
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: is in an honest place. Texas teacher is from Mexico
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: or families from Mexico so the teacher was very carefully explaining,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: like remember that almost stolen from my people. Yes, not lying,
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: not embellishing, making sure to not fucking whitewash. Yeah. My
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: daughter just comes to me like broken, and she's like,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: America did bad things. And I'm like, that is like
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: the only bad family that the rest of the there's
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: nothing else to learn that happened, and now we're here
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: like nothing else.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Luckily, that's the worst thing that ever happened in Texas.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, damn it, all right, Whitney, which US Supreme Court
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: case established judicial review?
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: Oh boy, options? So I can just randomly go.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Uh dread Scott versus Stanford plus Y versus Ferguson, Marbury
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: versus Madison, or McCauley versus Maryland.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: No, dang it, Marbury versus Madison.
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: Yes, one point, very good, give me more clueless trivia.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Three points.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: I've got more. I'm going to run through these real quick.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: We've got time.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Okay, here we go, rapid fire. Jim, what is the
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: twelfth Amendment? Establish options? Establishes that the vice president is
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: elected together with the president rather than the runner up
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: as the president in the presidential election. Prohibits excessive finds
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: an excessive bailuh, prohibits the denial of rights to vote
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: based off of race, color, or previous condition of servitude,
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: or prohibits the revocation of voting rights based on the
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: failure to tax.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Vice President.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: Hey, yes, yeah, I'm in the lead, Jacob.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: What was the name of the US plane plan? Sorry,
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: plan to add Western Europe to aid Western Europe after
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: World War Two?
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: I want you to know I was all set to
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: say the Aola Gay. Oh yeah, if you had stuck
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: with what plane? You still can?
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: I was ready for a NOLAA You still can?
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: What was the plan? Yeah? The plane that.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Dropped the bomb on which one? Little boy? The first one? Hiroshima?
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: It was Hiroshiba, but I believe that was fat Man. Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: that is the plane that dropped the first nuclear bomb
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: on Japan.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Yes, what what was the plan? The plan to aid
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: WES Western Europe? What was What are the options?
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: Triman doctrine, Monroe doctrine, Marshall plan, Eisenhower doctrine. Oh fuck me, uh,
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: that would be the Eisenhower No, true, this one, Whitney,
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: I know that Truman.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: No, Marshall plan. Marshall Plan is a Marshall plan. Fuck
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: old day. I am so fucking American in this bitch.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: Al right, waitney here, we got a last one.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: We just fucking sweat freedom.
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: The twenty seventh Amendment, delaying laws affecting congressional salary from
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: taking effect until the next election of Representatives, was proposed
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: on September twenty fifth, seventeen eighty nine, and took How
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: long before it was ratified?
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: How long did it take Congress to pass a law
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: which the pay raise for congress options twelve.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: Years, one hundred ninety five days, sixteen years, fifty six days,
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: twenty three years, two hundred and ten days, two hundred
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: and two years, two hundred and twenty three days.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Still is it done?
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: And I guess the last Yes, Yes, Yes, propose on
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: September twenty fifth, seventeen and ratified on May seventh, nineteen
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: ninety two.
