- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beacham, and I have good news.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: The day had finally arrived.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Jerusalem was filled with worshipers from many nations.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: The disciples were together just as Jesus had commanded.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Then, without warning, the silence was broken.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: The sound did not rise from the street, it came from heaven, and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire, and it set upon each of them, not only upon Peter, not only upon the apostles, it set upon each of them, all one hundred and twenty.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Then the promise was fulfilled, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: They were all filled.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: The words they spoke were not learned in a classroom.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: The Spirit gave them the utterance.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: The sound drew a multitude, and the visitors heard the wonderful works of God in their own languages.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Some were amazed, some were confused.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Others mocked and said the disciples were full of new wine.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Then Peter stood up.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: The same Peter, who had once denied knowing Jesus, now spoke with boldness before the crowd.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: He did not say, This is a new religious movement we have invented.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: He pointed them back to the ancient promise, but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel, and it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: This was that.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Peter then preached Jesus, his mighty works, his crucifixion, his resurrection, and his exhortation.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: This Jesus had God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: The Holy Ghost did not turn attention away from Jesus.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: The Spirit empowered the disciples to proclaim him.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: That is still the purpose of the Spirit-filled life.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: It is not to make us appear important, it is not to produce pride.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: It is to make us witnesses, to lift up the risen Christ in word and in deed.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: A true move of God leads people toward truth, repentance, obedience, love, holiness, and service.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: On Pentecost, the crowd saw ordinary people changed by God's power.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Fishermen became preachers, frightened followers became bold witnesses.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Men and women from Galilee declared God's wonderful work to the nations, and it all began with a promise.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Perhaps you have wondered whether the account in Acts is only history, something to admire from a distance.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: But Peter did not treat Pentecost as a closed event.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Before the day ended, he explained who could receive the gift and how they should respond.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: The question was already forming in the hearts of the listeners.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: They had heard the message.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: They had seen the evidence.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: They were convinced that Jesus, whom the nation had crucified, had been made both Lord and Christ.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: What could they do?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow we will hear their question and Peter's plain, unforgettable answer.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: I hope today's message has touched your heart and causes you to think and to have a good day.
