- 0:00Hi here and welcome to Candid Coach Conversations.
- 0:02I'm Kimberly Boyd, founder of Live Life Fully,
- 0:05and today I have with me Teresa Anderson,
- 0:08certified Live Life Fully coach,
- 0:10licensed professional counselor,
- 0:12and a published author. Good afternoon,
- 0:15Teresa.
- 0:16Good afternoon,
- 0:17Kimberly. It's ~ awesome to be here with you.
- 0:19So glad to see you. I have been thinking and I remembered back to the growth day.
- 0:25growth day, growth day event that we went to.
- 0:29And on day gosh, yes, growth day.
- 0:30That's great.
- 0:32So was that
- 0:33that was a three-day event, I think.
- 0:35Three or four.
- 0:35I think so, yeah. Yeah.
- 0:37Anyway, so and there was a big group of us that went.
- 0:40And so I've been thinking back.
- 0:42to that last day, day three, and I don't really know what happened.
- 0:47I was not sitting with you. I was sitting over in a different section.
- 0:51And all I know is
- 0:53You were out of there. And I think you sent me a message.
- 0:56I don't have my phone with me,
- 0:57but you were like, I've gotta go.
- 0:59I have work to do. And you were gone,
- 1:00like out. but that
- 1:02And
- 1:03brings us to where we are now and here you are,
- 1:05a published author, but I'm pretty sure the work that you were leaving that
- 1:09you had to go to right away was the book.
- 1:11Yes, it was that, absolutely. And also I think I had a mini crisis with
- 1:15my family at the time. So I needed to go ahead and try to book a plane
- 1:18and get up out of there. But the when I sent you the message,
- 1:21that's exactly what I was thinking.
- 1:23Like, I'm I'm gonna miss the last hour or so,
- 1:25but I gotta get out of here. I gotta catch this flight and I've got so much work
- 1:29to do and I'm so excited to be in this position currently.
- 1:34And it just it was a whirlwind event.
- 1:38that I don't want to get emotional
- 1:40Sorry, I needed a minute. I just going back to that moment and thinking about
- 1:45Ed Milet and everything that he said that day,
- 1:47it still really hits my heart so deeply because he wasn't talking to a room full
- 1:54of professionals. He was talking to people who have a purpose and who have goals
- 2:00and dreams and aspirations. And they're sitting in a notebook.
- 2:03They're sitting in
- 2:05A computer or a laptop, they're sitting in some externalized version of life.
- 2:12And or, and then he finished the statement by saying,
- 2:15or there's they're sitting in a grave,
- 2:17right? And so all of this purpose and God-given beauty that he's endowed humanity
- 2:24with is gone. It's sitting in a grave,
- 2:26never, never to be known or noticed.
- 2:30And I think when he said that it just hit me so hard.
- 2:33And I was like, my god, I've got this book.
- 2:35It's in a notebook. We're br having breakout sessions.
- 2:38We're talking about the big dream,
- 2:40the extreme dream, the one that you don't even really think about
- 2:44or believe that you could actually make a reality.
- 2:47And we're breaking out, we're talking about what would that look like?
- 2:51What would your first few steps be?
- 2:53And every time I talked to somebody about the table or the idea,
- 2:56I didn't even have a title for it at that point,
- 2:59actually. And we broke out and it was just
- 3:01Just
- 3:01like I have this idea, this is the goal,
- 3:03this is what I'm thinking, this is the outline.
- 3:05And every time I started talking about it,
- 3:08somebody in one of my groups would be like,
- 3:10That gave me chills. They said that to me three times in three different groups,
- 3:15and that was for me the moment that I knew:
- 3:18like, this is the this is my thing,
- 3:20this is the thing I can't let die with me.
- 3:23I can't let it go to the grave without being realized.
- 3:26Yeah.
- 3:26So
- 3:26beautiful. Thank you and my wife.
- 3:27I'm so sorry, that was so emotional.
- 3:29You hit me with the with the g with the big guns right off the bat.
- 3:32Yep.
- 3:35Going all in. Yes.
- 3:36my gosh. And I'm so grateful that you shared that story.
- 3:39It was it was an emotional day.
- 3:41It was. And I think there was a lot of realization.
- 3:44I mean, I know too for myself,
- 3:46but I'm like, whoa.
- 3:47Because it is true. And I'm but I'm I'm so grateful for Ed and all the words that
- 3:52he said that day and that they landed so directly on your head and on your heart.
- 3:57because now we do have the table.
- 3:59It's out for the world to experience.
- 4:01but I did not know what sentence exactly did it.
- 4:04like I said, the whole day was emotional.
- 4:06It's I'm I'm glad to know it was that sentence that drove
- 4:09Yeah.
- 4:09it home
- 4:10for you.
- 4:10It was a couple
- 4:11of them. So he did that one and then he also said,
- 4:14You know, that there's a room full of people here under my voice,
- 4:16and while you all have good intentions,
- 4:18you all came to, you know, take something back with you.
- 4:21There's so many of you that are gonna leave all of this right here
- 4:24the minute that you walk out of the door.
- 4:26And he said, And it ails me. Like he started talking about the prayer
- 4:29the night before that he had met God and he just began to wail because
- 4:34he realized and God had impressed on his heart that there was gonna
- 4:37be people in that room that were
- 4:39We're
- 4:39not gonna follow through and whose purposes were were gonna be laid to the side.
- 4:44And they were not, they were gonna come,
- 4:46they were gonna enjoy, they were gonna be fruitful in the moment,
- 4:49and then they would let it fall away to the wayside,
- 4:52and that he was burdened for them and for every person who needed them
- 4:58to align in that moment, and they weren't gonna have the thing that they needed
- 5:02fulfilled. And I think it just the culmination of those two remarks.
- 5:07I
- 5:07was out
- 5:07Yeah.
- 5:08of there. I I'm pretty sure I cried the rest of the time.
- 5:12Like literally the spirit of God came over me and I just wailed the rest
- 5:17of the time. And they weren't,
- 5:18I mean, they were talking about nothing that was even emotional and
- 5:21I was still crying. So I knew I was done and I had to go.
- 5:24And I went to the airport immediately.
- 5:27Yes,
- 5:28yes.
- 5:28So you had some notes and journals and exactly what Ed had said,
- 5:33you know, we take these notes,
- 5:35write down these ideas. So you had them put these notes tucked away
- 5:39in all the journals over all the years.
- 5:41And you had the idea, you get on the plane,
- 5:43you start writing, you get home,
- 5:45you pull out all your journals,
- 5:46and you put it all together, and you didn't have a title.
- 5:49And somewhere along the way, you did,
- 5:51you came up with the table. And so I am so curious.
- 5:55Where did the table come from for you?
- 5:57This whole idea of this invitation to the table,
- 6:01where did that come from?
- 6:03I
- 6:03think it's probably twofold for me because after working,
- 6:07of course, as a trauma therapist and sitting with people in some
- 6:10of the hardest moments of their lives,
- 6:12you always hear this question,
- 6:14like, will I ever be myself again?
- 6:16When will I finally let this go?
- 6:18Will when will these broken pieces stop defining me?
- 6:21When will they stop affecting my future?
- 6:24Right. And so this idea that of the this beautiful refuge where seven women
- 6:30are going to come and they're literally it's more about a becoming than
- 6:34it is anything else but in order to become sometimes we have to sit with
- 6:39the hard parts right and so the idea is more so what I wanted I wanted readers
- 6:46to experience in a narrative form what it looks like
- 6:52to meet
- 6:54fragmentation and then sit with it and then choose to move forward into
- 7:00a future that is to be able to future cast from that moment and from that place
- 7:06and actually see a future for them that looks more like what they've always wanted
- 7:12and what their purpose is and how to define their lives.
- 7:15And so the table was the meeting place.
- 7:17It was like where do we take these two pieces
- 7:20of humanity
- 7:20These experiences, one of deep pain and sadness and fragmentation.
- 7:26And where do we get? How do we get to the future self?
- 7:29How do we get to the purpose-driven,
- 7:31the I'm living life fully version of ourselves?
- 7:35And to me, the answer was at the table.
- 7:38So that's that's where it came from.
- 7:41So beautiful. So did any
- 7:42of the women surprise you or as you were writing,
- 7:46and the women are they're coming to life on these pages,
- 7:49did any of them surprise you?
- 7:51I think they all surprised me a little bit because,
- 7:55you know, not only was I writing from like stories that I've heard and also from
- 7:59my own story, but it was this idea of being able to like really let them speak
- 8:05in the moment. so even like Firefly,
- 8:08you know, like her just nonchalant 12-year-old version of events who's thinking
- 8:14about Cheetos and hot sauce, you know,
- 8:17and doing things she's not.
- 8:18Supposed
- 8:18to be doing, and also like writing in her note,
- 8:21like, how do I go to a magical dinner?
- 8:23Right? The the whimsical wonder of that,
- 8:26and also to see her as this whole being,
- 8:30like she couldn't see herself in that way,
- 8:33she couldn't see how whimsical she is,
- 8:35she couldn't see how magical and ethereal she is,
- 8:38but she could she knew the pain and she knew the rules,
- 8:42and that's really how she saw herself,
- 8:44but to be able to really like see the fullness of her.
- 8:47I think is what what's beautiful about every single character.
- 8:50If I had to pick one that I love the most,
- 8:53it would probably be rubble, just because
- 8:55Yeah.
- 8:56rubble is just an in your face,
- 8:58and I don't care what you think,
- 9:00and this is who I am, and ~ you don't know how I got here.
- 9:03So
- 9:04You don't get to judge me. You don't and it's she's almost like you can't judge
- 9:08me any harder than I'm already judging myself in a lot of ways.
- 9:12And so seeing her also come to this experience of being able to write out her anger,
- 9:18like what is it that you're mad about,
- 9:20sister? You know? It was also so I can't I can't pick one because
- 9:25I had that experience with every single one of them,
- 9:28I think.
- 9:29Okay, so a little surprised by each one
- 9:32and
- 9:32Ha ha.
- 9:34if you had to pick one, your favorite would be Rebel.
- 9:36Okay, so what makes Rebel your favorite?
- 9:38I mean I know that she's like,
- 9:40you can't judge me more than I'm judging myself.
- 9:42Is there anything that like really resonates with you about Rebel?
- 9:46Or do you see yourself in Rebel at all?
- 9:48I think
- 9:48If I had to look back on my story,
- 9:50I think the rebel in my story was really the grit that got me through.
- 9:55Right. And I think that that grit stayed with me for the rest of my life.
- 9:58If I feel like it transformed over time and it turned into these other versions
- 10:04of grit, maybe even grace, maybe from grit to grace at some point.
- 10:08But I do think that that piece of me or rebel
- 10:14in others is it was that defining thing that
- 10:17This is the thing that's gonna get me through.
- 10:19This is the way that I'm gonna get to the end of all of this.
- 10:22Yeah. ~
- 10:24So awesome.
- 10:25So for the readers out there that do not know anything about you,
- 10:29what do you want readers to know?
- 10:30Like who is Teresa Anderson? As they are sitting at the table with these women,
- 10:36what do you want them to know about you and about your heart?
- 10:40I think what I want readers to know about me in particular is that I am
- 10:45a kind of person, I'm the type of human that has probably been where you've been.
- 10:50And and then some, and also where I have not been,
- 10:54I'm willing to sit with you and I'm willing to hold stories,
- 11:00hold pain, and also help you get to the point where you really transmit that energy
- 11:05into something that is fulfilling and beautiful and fulfills your soul,
- 11:10your spirit, your energy in a way that you've never really been able maybe
- 11:14to transcend. And that's something that the tape.
- 11:18Really embodied for me as I was writing it and as I got through it because
- 11:22I had my own emotional struggles with it for sure.
- 11:24A couple of EMDR sessions, a couple of crying to my friends about I don't know
- 11:30if I can do this. Right? We all have these doubts,
- 11:32these fears, these experiences.
- 11:34And in writing it, it was you know,
- 11:37having I know for you, Kimberly,
- 11:39you talk about elephants and how the elephants they congregate
- 11:42and they protect their own, and they're very ~ protective
- 11:46and nursing.
- 11:46Nurturing and they're also a force to be reckoned with.
- 11:50And I
- 11:50Yeah.
- 11:50think that's something that I embody and I want to embody in my relationships.
- 11:56And that's what I want readers to know,
- 11:58that you're reading a book that was written by somebody who understands where you're
- 12:03at, but can also see where you're headed and can sit with you in the deepest,
- 12:08darkest spaces and not look away because I'm not afraid of what you've been through.
- 12:13And I think that's really what I want people to see about me specifically when
- 12:17it comes to who I am as a person,
- 12:20what I am body and coaching and therapy,
- 12:22and also, you know, part of the reason that I wrote the table.
- 12:25So
- 12:27I love it. I
- 12:28do. So good. And it's beautiful
- 12:30Yeah.
- 12:30and it's true. I mean I do I would definitely say that you can
- 12:34sit with people through their pain and in their pain with them.
- 12:38and you are a force to be reckoned with.
- 12:40Ha ha ha.
- 12:41In such a good way, like so protective and so loving and caring.
- 12:45And so I don't mean it as a bully way,
- 12:47I mean it as no, I'm gonna protect and and hold and love,
- 12:52have compassion and empathy. Yeah.
- 12:55Yes. When you said that right now,
- 12:57so while I was doing like digital rollouts for the table,
- 13:01there was this image that I created and it was actually at Firefly.
- 13:04She was at the front and behind her were all six of the other women,
- 13:09almost
- 13:09nice.
- 13:10like like the elephant, right?
- 13:12Yeah.
- 13:13Almost like that was their baby,
- 13:14that was their pride. And the rest of them were lining up to to say,
- 13:19We're here and we've got you.
- 13:22So good.
- 13:23Yeah. So
- 13:24Yeah, I love that.
- 13:25Okay, so I'm sure people are gonna wanna know where can they get a copy
- 13:29of the table?
- 13:31Right now it's
- 13:33I know that it's on Walmart.com,
- 13:34I know it's on Amazon, I know it's on Barnes and Noble.
- 13:38I'm also gonna I'm dealt I'm in the middle of developing an author's page where I'll
- 13:42be able to offer it as well. working with Live Life Fully to get it
- 13:45on this store there. and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be available almost anywhere
- 13:50that you can purchase a book by the end of the marketing rollout.
- 13:54Right.
- 13:55Also it's available English, Spanish,
- 13:57it'll be available in audio and also e reader.
- 14:00my gosh, and as you said that,
- 14:02which is so exciting, and yes,
- 14:03it is available in the Live Life Fully store,
- 14:06so that's llfully.com, as well as the bookstores.
- 14:10And as you were listing those places off,
- 14:12Teresa, readers also need to know what you're currently working on.
- 14:15Like, ~ but
- 14:16Ha ha ha.
- 14:18wait, there's more.
- 14:19Yes, I'm actually working on the workbook.
- 14:21And so I did have a preliminary copy already ready to go.
- 14:24But once it was all said and done and I look back on it,
- 14:27you know, I wrote that workbook ~ probably like seven,
- 14:30eight months ago now. And I just realized it was more of an initial version
- 14:35and I there was more that I wanted to add to it.
- 14:37And so I'm in the process of revamping that.
- 14:40It should not take me that long because I do have a fully functional workbook.
- 14:43I just need to go back and kind of make it a
- 14:45Sure.
- 14:45little bit easier to comprehend
- 14:48in certain
- 14:48Spaces and maybe add some changes to the artwork.
- 14:51So once that's done, I'm going to go through the same process
- 14:55and have that available. And the workbook is primarily for for those who also
- 15:00are in counseling and they have clients who are dealing with therapy
- 15:04or fragmentation and they really want to create a a place.
- 15:08So I really should say, I feel like I'm gonna get off topic here,
- 15:12so I'm gonna go back to it, but create a place where they can hand a client.
- 15:16A book that says, listen, you're not alone,
- 15:18and there's universality here.
- 15:19And this is what it looks like to walk out what you're going through
- 15:24and the pain that you've endured.
- 15:25And also, here's a workbook that you can work out and actually write
- 15:29for yourself what does this story say about you?
- 15:32And what do your stories mean and say?
- 15:35And who were you in all of these moments and occurrences?
- 15:38there's a process there. And when you said why the table,
- 15:42so we talked a little bit about kind of like the generalisms of
- 15:45how the table occurred. But I really do want to I need to point
- 15:49to ~ Fraser's dissociative table because that's actually one
- 15:53of the therapeutic models that also sparked the table for me.
- 15:57So as far as counselors and therapists who are going to use this more
- 16:01for their trauma cases, it has a more specific
- 16:04Purpose, and it'll look a little bit different than the average reader who's walking
- 16:08out their storyline and really trying to find themselves and their future self
- 16:13and future cast. It'll look a little bit different.
- 16:15So it's it's twofold in that way as well.
- 16:17But yes, the workbook is coming online,
- 16:20and I'm gonna get that out as soon as possible.
- 16:22I hope by the end of the year for sure.
- 16:24So great, awesome. and I do
- 16:26I love this whole idea too, that therapists could have the book available
- 16:30for their clients. And with that,
- 16:32what I'm hearing is that clients that decide like maybe they're listening
- 16:35to this podcast or they see some of the articles out about you,
- 16:38that they will pick up the book and start reading and say,
- 16:41shoot, I'm gonna take this into my next therapy session and ask the
- 16:44Yeah.
- 16:45therapist to work through this with me.
- 16:48as well. But then even like when I because you know,
- 16:51here we are, we're coaches, And so when I think about like the stories that wounded
- 16:55us, don't necessarily have to be the stories that define us.
- 16:58And so that piece of the
- 17:00table is really forward move moving it's moving into more of
- 17:04the coaching space where yes trauma had a story but you know healing gives
- 17:09us the pin back and coaching or forward movement or intentional living gives
- 17:14us the map for the future right and so these things can
- 17:17all coalesce beautifully together but the table is trifold in that way
- 17:22Well I'm super
- 17:23thrilled that you've written the table.
- 17:26and so I'm just about finished for the second read.
- 17:29Ha
- 17:29ha
- 17:30And
- 17:30I love it. So yeah, I hope everybody that's listening will definitely go pick
- 17:34up a copy of the table. Teresa mentioned earlier,
- 17:37all the places you can order it,
- 17:38and then of course you can get it through the Live Life store.
- 17:41But yeah, pick up the table. And Teresa,
- 17:43I want to say thank you. Like thank you for coming today,
- 17:45of course,
- 17:46and
- 17:47Yeah.
- 17:47thank you for writing the table,
- 17:49where stories don't have to remain hidden and that fragmentation
- 17:53is actually welcomed and honored.
- 17:56Yeah.
- 17:56Absolutely. Your pain may be a part of your story,
- 17:59but it was never meant to become your identity.
- 18:02And I want to give you a place
- 18:04at the table, everyone, to come to terms with those parts and decide once
- 18:10and for all what is your story and who are you going to be in spite
- 18:14of everything that you've endured.
- 18:16So
- 18:17Absolutely so beautiful.
- 18:19my gosh, Teresa. Thank you again for coming today and sharing with us.
- 18:23I always love chatting with you.
- 18:25And
- 18:26Yeah.
- 18:27~ to everyone else, we're wishing you a fantastic week.
- 18:30Remember to live life fully and enjoy every moment.
- 18:34Talk to y'all soon. Bye.
- 18:35Bye everyone.
