- 0:00Can a soul or the essence of an entity become trapped inside of
- 0:05an object? Could one, channelling enough
- 0:08energy, dedication and care into something, allow an otherworldly
- 0:13presence to possess it, attracting spirits like moths to
- 0:19a flame? We have covered haunted objects
- 0:22here before, such as Akiko the doll, among others.
- 0:27But this story is too infamous to not be given the time of day,
- 0:31and although it has been told many times, perhaps you will
- 0:35learn a detail or two that you've never.
- 0:37Heard before, this is the untold story of Robert the doll and the
- 0:42malevolent monstrosity that stares at the world from behind
- 0:47its beady little lies. At first glance.
- 0:58Most people tend to agree that although dolls of all sorts can
- 1:02be creepy to say the least, there's something particularly
- 1:05unnerving about the doll that has become known to the world as
- 1:09Robert. But behind the initial feelings
- 1:12of unease at first glance lies many tales of accidents, tragedy
- 1:18and misfortune, all supposedly at Robert's hands, far too many
- 1:23within his presence to just be a string of awful coincidences.
- 1:27But if an evil force supposedly lives within the confines of
- 1:31this century old child's toy, to come to recognize and understand
- 1:35just what it could be, we must first tell its story.
- 1:39And to tell Robert's story properly, we must first start at
- 1:42the very beginning. As with many legends, there are
- 1:46multiple versions of the origin story and how Robert the Doll
- 1:50came to be. Having read through most, if not
- 1:53all of them, I'll be sharing with you the most agreed upon
- 1:56origin for accuracy's sake in the beginning, and we will
- 2:00explore other theories and origin stories later in this
- 2:04video, The years 19 O Four and a man named Thomas Otto is on a
- 2:09trip in Germany. Whether it was for business or
- 2:12leisure, we can't say, but during his trip he decided to
- 2:17pick up a gift for his young grandson's birthday to take back
- 2:21home with him to the States. As he perused various shops
- 2:25throughout his time there, he stumbled across the toy that he
- 2:29believed would be the perfect fit for the young boy.
- 2:32Perched on display behind a pale glass window sat a doll.
- 2:37The doll was about the size of a young child and was accompanied
- 2:40by a small dog doll as well. Knowing that his grandson was
- 2:44lonely on the large family estate and was very fond of dogs
- 2:48as well, Thomas believed he had found what he had been searching
- 2:52for and quickly purchased the toy.
- 2:55In due time, he would find his way back to the United States
- 2:58once his trip was over, bringing his precious cargo with him,
- 3:02making his way back to the family estate located in Key
- 3:06West, FL to greet his family after months abroad.
- 3:10Thomas and an act of innocence and excitement gifted the toy to
- 3:14his grandson Eugene for his 8th birthday.
- 3:18As soon as Eugene laid eyes on the gift he had received, he
- 3:22became ecstatic. With no other children his own
- 3:25age in the home or nearby, he now for once had his very own
- 3:29friend, his own best friend, and one that could accompany him
- 3:33wherever he went. Sitting at around 3 feet tall
- 3:37with his little dog, Eugene named his new friend Robert.
- 3:42But Robert, of course, needed clothes to fit for years of
- 3:45adventures to come. So Eugene's mother, Maria,
- 3:49quickly found just what he was missing, a small sailor's outfit
- 3:53that had once belonged to her son but had long since been
- 3:56outgrown. After placing Robert in his new
- 3:59clothes, the two were off to play and soon became
- 4:03inseparable. Wherever Eugene Wynne, Robert
- 4:07accompanied him from hours of play inside and outside of the
- 4:11house, to the dinner table and bedtime.
- 4:15His new best friend was everything the young man wanted
- 4:18and much more besides constant companionship.
- 4:22Eugene began to confide in the doll, often speaking to him as
- 4:26if he was a person in his own right.
- 4:29His parents, who were first just as elated as their young son,
- 4:33was at his excitement over his new toy.
- 4:37They began to grow. Concerned over how close their
- 4:39son was to the doll, but they would initially ride off the
- 4:43behavior as most would, since lonely children, with their
- 4:47imagination still very much active, will typically invent
- 4:50imaginary friends or adventurous stories to fill the void or lack
- 4:56of friends and real adventures within their daily lives.
- 5:01But over the months since Robert had arrived, they noticed a
- 5:04bizarre shift in Eugene's personality.
- 5:07He began to grow extremely possessive and obsessive over
- 5:11Robert would lash out at his parents, sometimes violently.
- 5:16If the doll was not in his sight at all times, It would soon
- 5:20appear that Eugene's obsession with his cloth companion and
- 5:24shift in behavior wasn't the only strange activity that was
- 5:28taking place. One night, as she tucked her son
- 5:32into bed, Maria overheard Eugene whispering to Robert something
- 5:37that at this point had become a daily occurrence.
- 5:40But as she closed the door to his room and began to walk away,
- 5:44she heard a deep, guttural voice respond to her son.
- 5:50Shocked and terrified, she rushed back into her son's room
- 5:54only to find him laying with the doll as per usual.
- 5:58When she asked him just who was speaking, he simply answered
- 6:03Robert. This scary happening wouldn't be
- 6:07the last. About a year into Robert, the
- 6:10doll inhabiting their Key West estate, the Otto's noticed yet
- 6:14another shift in their son's behavior.
- 6:17But this time it was almost the exact opposite of what the
- 6:21initial shift had been. Eugene had gone from a quiet and
- 6:26shy but charming young man to a belligerent, angry and
- 6:30possessive boy, But now he had become one that was meek, full
- 6:35of anxiety, and constantly seemed like he was walking on
- 6:39egg shells. He had now also taken to violent
- 6:43fits on occasion, as if something was trying to overtake
- 6:47his body and soul. The guttural voice that Maria
- 6:52had heard a year ago could be heard much more frequently now,
- 6:56and just as frequently almost nightly.
- 7:00It became commonplace to hear what sounded like glass breaking
- 7:04and constant commotion coming from Eugene's room.
- 7:08Upon hearing the turmoil, his parents would rush to discover
- 7:12the source. Upon opening their son's door,
- 7:15they would find his furniture dumped upside down, other toys
- 7:19of his would be smashed or in pieces and Eugene would almost
- 7:25always be in the corner of the room in his bed, petrified,
- 7:31while Robert the doll would be in his usual space nearby.
- 7:36Upon asking just what had happened, they would be met with
- 7:40an all too familiar answer. At this point they would ask
- 7:44just who did this Eugene and his answer would always be Robert.
- 7:51Noticing the activity becoming more and more intense and being
- 7:55a God fearing woman herself, Maria was deeply disturbed by
- 7:59what was taking place in her home and what was taking place
- 8:02to her family, particularly her son.
- 8:07Besides the nightly terror that now plagued them, she was very
- 8:10much disturbed by this guttural voice that she kept hearing,
- 8:14knowing that her son had not yet matured.
- 8:17She knew that there was no way his voice could reach that deep
- 8:20level of tonality and malice, and she often heard.
- 8:25At times the voice would even shout and speak over Eugene, and
- 8:30unless he was exceptionally good at ventriloquism, something was
- 8:34horrifically wrong. It was if the devil himself now
- 8:38occupied the walls of their home.
- 8:40Like a stain or a liquid, the presence had slowly seeped in
- 8:46and permeated throughout their lives.
- 8:50One night, as per usual, the family settles down to sleep as
- 8:55the clouds spiral and the moon now haunts the sky above them,
- 9:00gleaming down overhead. The family's peace is shattered
- 9:05by the horrific screams of their sun and the echoes of the sounds
- 9:10of things being broken. Wide eyed and terrified,
- 9:15Eugene's parents rushed to their son's aid, Lantern in hand.
- 9:19The closer they get to his room, the louder the low and horrible
- 9:24voice becomes and the louder the screams of Eugene become as
- 9:29well. The deep voice that have been
- 9:31growing louder suddenly was silent like the winter snow as
- 9:37hands touched the doorknob. Quickly overcoming their fear
- 9:41for the sake of their boy, the couple throw the door open to
- 9:44find their son huddled underneath his sheets.
- 9:48His room was almost completely destroyed.
- 9:51Most of his belongings were in pieces, her tatters from what
- 9:56was left of his toys, to his furniture, to even his clothes.
- 10:02Poor Eugene was shaking in the corner of his room opposite his
- 10:06bed, and Robert, along with his beady eyed companion were in his
- 10:11bed staring at the mall silently.
- 10:15By this point, Maria knew that whatever Robert was or whatever
- 10:20inhabited him was truly evil, but unsure of how to handle the
- 10:24situation or what exactly they were dealing with, And a fit of
- 10:28rage she grabbed the doll and rushed to the attic, casting
- 10:34Robert and his canine companion into the darkness above.
- 10:38This would remain his home until a better idea presented itself
- 10:43as to what to do with him. The low groans and screams and
- 10:48breaking ceased in Eugene's room, but would frequently be
- 10:52heard in the attic. With having such a large estate
- 10:56to care for, the family did have a team of servants to care for
- 11:00the property, but their loyal crew, having experienced the
- 11:05strangeness themselves up and quit the servants, soon became a
- 11:10revolving door with new faces almost always coming and going
- 11:15just as quickly as they started. Despite his banishment to the
- 11:19attic. Alongside the occasional
- 11:21crashing sounds and yelling, the family said that they would also
- 11:25hear Robert walking around the pitter patter of his small feet,
- 11:30often being heard echoing all throughout the house, especially
- 11:35at night when he seemed to truly come alive, so to speak.
- 11:41As the years passed, and despite all of the childhood trauma and
- 11:45fear inflicted on him by the demonic doll, unbeknownst to any
- 11:49rational mind after his parents passing, Eugene would choose to
- 11:54take Robert back into his possession as an adult.
- 11:59Perhaps he did this to ensure that Robert wouldn't inflict
- 12:02terror upon anyone else. Maybe he felt like he had the
- 12:05most experience dealing with him, and therefore he was the
- 12:09most equipped to handle anything that could possibly happen.
- 12:12As a result of his presence, Eugene and his adult years
- 12:16became an artist, would later marry and have a family of his
- 12:20own. He kept Robert propped up in the
- 12:23window of his art studio, known as the Turret Room, which
- 12:27overlooked his front yard. And then Eugene's wife was said
- 12:32to disapprove of Robert's presence in the house and
- 12:35demanded that he be gotten rid of or banished into the attic or
- 12:39basement. For a short time this took
- 12:42place, but naturally Robert didn't take kindly to this and
- 12:47apparently began to make threats towards her by visiting her in
- 12:51her dreams and verbally telling Eugene that if he was not moved
- 12:56back, horrible things would happen to his family.
- 13:00So eventually Robert was placed back in the turret room.
- 13:04Aside from this, I couldn't find any additional information on
- 13:08the happenings that took place during those years inside the
- 13:11home. I would hope and imagine that
- 13:13perhaps Robert had gone dormant during this time, especially
- 13:17since Eugene did eventually have children of his own and
- 13:21hopefully didn't allow them to be compromised by having such a
- 13:24thing in the house. There were, however, reports of
- 13:28Passer, Bys, school children and neighbors feeling a strange
- 13:32presence when passing by the house on a daily basis.
- 13:36Others would say that they could see Robert move, but in the
- 13:40blink of an eye he'd be back to where he was sitting.
- 13:43Eugene Otto will continue to spend the rest of his life
- 13:46painting in the turret room with Robert the doll until his death
- 13:50in 1974. However, this bizarre legend
- 13:54does not stop with his death. Upon Eugene's passing, his
- 13:59family sold the house to a woman named Myrtle Reuter.
- 14:03Upon moving into the home, she noticed sitting in the window of
- 14:07the turret room was a small doll with a sailor's uniform.
- 14:13She thought this to be strange since the Otto family had not
- 14:16left any other belongings behind when they had moved, but
- 14:20regardless, she decided to keep it.
- 14:24Myrtle soon began to realize that there was something
- 14:26different about this doll. Upon house cleaning, she would
- 14:30typically notice that he moved around the room, seemingly by
- 14:34himself. At night, she would hear what
- 14:38she described as small footsteps all throughout the house.
- 14:44Guess who would visit her claim, too?
- 14:46That Robert would move of his own volition and that his blank
- 14:50expression would change to one of rage if anyone disgust him in
- 14:55a negative way. Myrtle would eventually reach
- 14:58out and speak with the widowed Annette Otto, who would confirm
- 15:02her worst fears, that something otherworldly inhabited Robert
- 15:06the Doll. After dealing with his antics
- 15:09for years, she finally decided to reach out to a local museum
- 15:14and would donate Robert in 1994 to the Fort E Martello Museum in
- 15:20Key West, FL, where he remains today.
- 15:23But as with each previous relocation, his story does not
- 15:28end here either. Placed inside his own glass
- 15:31display for the public to see him each and every day, one
- 15:35would think that perhaps Robert's antics would cease.
- 15:38He was of course a natural source of curiosity and would be
- 15:42seen and admired by many people daily.
- 15:45But you would be very wrong. Staff at the museum have claimed
- 15:50to find Robert in various positions within his case, as if
- 15:54he was attempting to break out of it, or had been out of it
- 15:57prior and had just re entered it.
- 16:00The Phantom footsteps, as previously claimed by all three
- 16:03families, has also been reported, as well as the doll's
- 16:07expression changing from neutral to nasty in an instant.
- 16:13The afflictions first started with the staff themselves, from
- 16:18horrible bouts of rare diseases to relationship breakdowns and
- 16:23marriage failures, as well as unique instances of psychosis.
- 16:29Over the years, the Curse of Robert the Doll began to take
- 16:33shape and become a well known phenomena, but it would soon
- 16:37spread to many others besides the staff themselves.
- 16:41Many people, upon visiting Robert's exhibit, finding him
- 16:46strange to say the least, would often mock him, berate him, or
- 16:51just laugh at his appearance. Little did they know that they
- 16:55would be inviting the wrath of something otherworldly.
- 16:59Shortly after their visit, droves of people began to
- 17:03experience shockingly similar happenings to that of the staff,
- 17:08varying in intensity, almost as if their punishment was being
- 17:12tapered to fit their crimes. From less serious experiences
- 17:17like paranormal activity beginning in their home,
- 17:21horrible luck and job loss, to name a few.
- 17:25Too much more serious experiences like exotic disease
- 17:29diagnosis, rare cancers, relationship disintegration and
- 17:35others. Car accidents, falls, and even
- 17:40untimely death. Eventually a warning would be
- 17:44added to Robert's exhibit explaining the alleged curse and
- 17:48the proper etiquette to approach him with.
- 17:51Whether that's to observe or take a photo is to not offend
- 17:56whoever or whatever inhabits the doll itself.
- 18:00Over the decades, an entire wall has been dedicated to the
- 18:04letters people have dropped off or sent the museum if they
- 18:08weren't able to come in person begging for Robert's
- 18:11forgiveness, hoping to end whatever horrible situation they
- 18:16found themselves in after their visit.
- 18:19To this day, there are over 1000 letters, with more continuing to
- 18:23be added each and every year. But could there be more to this
- 18:28legend? As I mentioned in the beginning
- 18:30of the video, there is another origin story that could explain
- 18:34just what inhabits the doll and how it got there.
- 18:38I will also add several elements that I found interesting
- 18:41relating to the case itself. The alternative origin story
- 18:46says that a young woman of Bahamian descent gave Thomas
- 18:50Otter the doll as a retaliation for a misdeed.
- 18:54As to why this would have taken place is not known, but
- 18:58speculation has led many to believe that the girl, or
- 19:02perhaps a relative, had been a member of staff at some point or
- 19:05another at the family's Key West estate.
- 19:09The retaliation was that the doll had been imbued with a
- 19:12spirit that had been conjured using voodoo and by trapping the
- 19:16entity within the doll, making it its vessel, it became aware
- 19:21of its surroundings and knew what it was sent there to do.
- 19:26Although with many details. In this case, lots of details
- 19:29can't be corroborated due to the age of the story itself, but
- 19:33there are a few details that I managed to dig up that are
- 19:36interesting. The doll itself appears to have
- 19:39been manufactured by the Styf Company, a German family company
- 19:43that was headed by German designer Richard Styf, the
- 19:47original designer of the beloved teddy bear and the original
- 19:51design of the doll in particular and others that were similar to
- 19:54it were not designed as toys. The rather stage props for the
- 19:59time, so it's hard to say if Robert was ever intended as a
- 20:02toy in the 1st place. The family tree of the Ottos
- 20:06also has conflicting information in regards to birth and death
- 20:10dates as well as names, but I did my best to corroborate this
- 20:15information and I'll be linking the info in the description
- 20:18below. Today.
- 20:20Robert continues to be on display and his antics continue
- 20:24to persist. He seems to be just as powerful
- 20:28as he was all those years ago. The museum keeps a catalogued
- 20:32record of all ailments that have been reported as a result of
- 20:36offending him for future reference.
- 20:39His reach also continues to expand as his legend grows and
- 20:43becomes more and more well known across the world.
- 20:47Robert the Doll has been the inspiration behind many books,
- 20:51movies, and podcasts, as well as a local legend in Florida.
- 20:56And this lesson truly applies to anyone and everyone.
- 21:01Have respect when you meet someone because you never truly
- 21:05know who or what you could be dealing with.
- 21:09And please, if you find yourself at the East Martello Museum in
- 21:14Key West, FL, and you happen to come into contact with the
- 21:18entity known as Robert the Doll, be respectful.
- 21:23Because if you're not, you may just pay the ultimate price.

- 22:32I hope that as we head towards the summer that you are healthy
- 22:35mentally and spiritually and that we all continue to have a
- 22:39wonderful year despite any and all the hardships that we've
- 22:42faced thus far. And as always, this has been
- 22:45Cody here in Mystery Archives. Until next time.
- 22:49Remember to stay safe out there and take care.
- 22:59Could an item, if given enough energy, devotion, and focus,
- 23:04begin to take on a life of its own?
- 23:07Could it begin to exhibit human like characteristics as if it
- 23:11has been imbued with or contain some kind of soul or entity
- 23:16inside of it? This act of magic has been
- 23:18practiced by multiple religions and.
- 23:21Cults throughout the ages. This is just one very strange
- 23:25example that it could indeed be possible after a gracious gift
- 23:30was placed into the arms of a little.
- 23:32Girl. Tragedy would strike and what
- 23:35follows would continue to haunt the family, the citizens of the
- 23:39village, and would soon cross far beyond the barriers of land
- 23:44and sea. This is the untold story of
- 23:47Akiku, the Haunted Japanese doll and the bizarre paranormal force
- 23:54that possessed it. Japan is a very mystical and
- 24:05spiritual place, a place where the souls of the past seem to
- 24:10interact with the living. Such places where the spiritual
- 24:15energy seems to be most visible is throughout many of Japan's
- 24:19spiritual temples, home to many religions, the two main ones
- 24:25being Buddhism and Shintoism. Thousands of temples exist all
- 24:30over the country, but one in particular houses a spiritual
- 24:34artifact that has a tragic back story and an even more
- 24:38terrifying story that continues to be written to this day.
- 24:43Located in Hokkaido, Japan, at the Meninji Buddhist Temple is a
- 24:48doll with a bizarre and tragic back story indeed, although
- 24:53there are several origin stories of how the doll came to be and
- 24:57how the temple became its final living.
- 24:59Space, so to speak. All of them have most of the
- 25:03main details in common, therefore I'll be telling the
- 25:07most agreed upon origin story to try and be as true to the legend
- 25:12as I can. The years 1918 in Hokkaido,
- 25:16Japan and a 17 year old boy by the name of Ikigi Suzuki is in
- 25:22search of a gift for his little sister's birthday.
- 25:26As he pursues the different vendors and small shops,
- 25:30something soon catches his attention and one of the store
- 25:34windows he spots a small childlike doll wearing a
- 25:39traditional Japanese kimono. Knowing that he had finally
- 25:42found something his sister will love, Ikiki quickly purchases
- 25:47the doll and makes his way back home through the countryside.
- 25:52As the family celebrates their little girl's birthday, Okiku is
- 25:56presented with the doll, and almost immediately, as soon as
- 26:00her eyes meet hers, she falls in love with it.
- 26:04The two from this point become inseparable.
- 26:07Wherever Okiku is, her doll is right by her side.
- 26:12She Combs her hair, bathes her, dresses her, and treats her as
- 26:18if she was her little sister. The two even share meals and
- 26:22sleep side by side. The joy that the doll brought
- 26:26Akiku must have filled Ekiki's heart with such happiness.
- 26:30But soon that happiness would change to tragedy. 1 Hot day.
- 26:36As the little girl played outside with her doll, she was
- 26:39bitten by a mosquito. This benign insect by it would
- 26:43soon manifest itself into a horrible case of malaria.
- 26:48Although the family did everything they could possibly
- 26:51do, Okiku would pass away scared and gasping for air as she
- 26:57clutched her special doll all the way until the moment she
- 27:00took her last breath devastated the Suzuki's plan to have their
- 27:05little girl buried with the doll since she loved it so much.
- 27:09But unfortunately, due to either governmental or religious
- 27:13oversight at the time, this wasn't an option.
- 27:17Instead, after they had laid Okiku to rest, the doll would be
- 27:21placed on a small family shrine located within the living
- 27:25quarters of their home as a tribute of sorts to their late
- 27:29daughter and their love for her. But shortly after the doll was
- 27:33placed on the shrine, very strange things began to happen.
- 27:38The Kiki, upon walking past the shrine one day, noticed that the
- 27:42doll's hair seemed significantly longer than what it had been
- 27:46when it was placed. There.
- 27:48The hair, which was originally shoulders length on the doll
- 27:50itself and black, was now overgrown with differing shades
- 27:56of brown hair also coming through and splitting at the
- 27:59ends. Finding this bizarre to say the
- 28:02least, he brought the discovery to his parents attention and
- 28:06unsure of what else to do, they trimmed the doll's hair as the
- 28:11days came and when the family began to have distressing dreams
- 28:15at night of their departed okiku.
- 28:18Sometimes she would be scared and alone in the darkness,
- 28:21calling out to them, only being recognized by her voice.
- 28:26Other times, she would blame them for what happened to.
- 28:29Her. Each member of the family, at
- 28:31differing times, had these dreams, and they would soon lead
- 28:35all of them to believe that Akiku's soul wasn't peacefully
- 28:39resting. These disturbing dreams soon
- 28:42became all the stranger when the doll, which they began to refer
- 28:46to as Akiku and their daughter's honor, would appear by their
- 28:51bedsides following these nightmares.
- 28:55One such incident involved the father of the family waking up
- 28:59in a cold sweat, only to be met face to face with a blank and
- 29:05lifeless stare of the doll. Unsure of what was taking place,
- 29:10the Suzuki's turn to their faith.
- 29:13After contacting a local Buddhist priest and having a
- 29:16cleansing ritual be performed on their home and the doll, the
- 29:21activity seemed to grow and become stronger.
- 29:25Accompanying their ever frequent nightmares and random movements
- 29:29of the doll, the chilling events grew into full blown spiritual
- 29:33manifestations during their waking life.
- 29:36They soon began to hear banging noises all throughout the house
- 29:41and the whispers. Of a little girl.
- 29:44Strange disembodied voices, varying from high pitched like
- 29:48those of a child to the low groans of something
- 29:52unexplainable, began to be heard.
- 29:55Their lights began to flicker on and off, and the paranormal
- 29:59activity seemed to happen more frequently as the calendar
- 30:03ticked closer to the birth and death dates of Akiku.
- 30:09These strange and terrifying happenings would continue over
- 30:12the course of the next 20 years, with multiple religious priests
- 30:17and shamans being contacted and all coming to the same
- 30:21conclusion that after the cleansings failed time and time
- 30:24again, that the restless spirit of Akiku now inhabited the doll
- 30:29she once loved so much. Finally needing a major change
- 30:35and unable to deal with the ever intensifying spiritual presence
- 30:39that seemed to haunt their home, the Suzuki's relocated to a
- 30:43different district. Believing the doll to be the
- 30:46source of their various ailments and emotional torture that they
- 30:50had endured over the last two decades, they had no desire to
- 30:54take it with them. The family had reached the
- 30:57conclusion that if their daughter's soul wasn't at peace,
- 31:00what could perhaps be helping to fuel Lukiko's power or magic was
- 31:05the close proximity of her grave to their home where the doll
- 31:09resided. So in order to distance the doll
- 31:12from the grave, the family approached the Menenji Buddhist
- 31:15Temple in Hokkaido, and over the years the doll's reputation for
- 31:20being haunted had spread throughout the community and
- 31:24indeed the majority of the country.
- 31:26This was more than likely due to the various interactions between
- 31:30the spiritual community and the Suzuki family finding the doll
- 31:34to be mesmerizing and possibly a unique opportunity to commute
- 31:39and interact with the dead. If the stories were true, the
- 31:43leaders and priests of the Meninji temple agreed to home
- 31:46Okiku permanently. As with many legends, we find
- 31:50lots of details to be exaggerated over time and
- 31:54perhaps some of the details to not be true at all.
- 31:58And this is what the priests were originally thinking, that
- 32:01perhaps due to grief, the family was dealing with other spiritual
- 32:05ailments, perhaps unrelated to the doll or causing the doll to
- 32:09be a vessel of sorts for restless spirits.
- 32:13However, as the years came and went, as Akiku now called the
- 32:17temple her home, they began to slowly but surely experience the
- 32:22same strangeness the Suzuki's had for all of those years.
- 32:27Akiku's hair continued to grow and this baffled the priests.
- 32:32They would eventually have the hair trimmed and tested, and the
- 32:36hair was said to belong to a little girl.
- 32:40They found that the entity seemed to be appeased when her
- 32:42hair was trimmed and combed, and this led to less activity for a
- 32:47time. But the same activity, the
- 32:50knocking, banging and disembodied voices, which soon
- 32:55plagued the temple as well. Nokiku.
- 32:58'S power only seemed to grow. Any priest who seemed skeptical
- 33:03of the doll or attempted to cleanse it themselves, soon had
- 33:07their dreams haunted as well, Turning their sleep into
- 33:10restless fits. Their homes and rooms soon also
- 33:15began to manifest the very same activity that the temple was now
- 33:19exhibiting. With no remedy seeming to work,
- 33:23the leaders turned to appeasement, instead hoping that
- 33:26gestures of goodwill would keep the entity at Bay.
- 33:30As years turned to decades. And as we've come into the 21st
- 33:34century, the priests of multiple generations now have overseen
- 33:39and cared for the doll known as Akiko.
- 33:42And though some of the more violent activity has faded, the
- 33:46general consensus is that she is now just as powerful as she was.
- 33:50Or is perhaps. More powerful as she's continued
- 33:53to age, it seems like as the more her fame and notoriety
- 33:58grows, the more visitors she has, the stronger she becomes.
- 34:04She continues to invade the dreams of those who come to
- 34:07visit her, and her hair is growing faster and more frayed.
- 34:12She's said to drive tourists mad who doubt her, with many people
- 34:16even reporting that besides seeing her strange hair and
- 34:20feeling a malevolent presence when visiting.
- 34:23Her. They've also had her stock.
- 34:25And appear in their dreams. Some more disturbing and recent
- 34:29reports have even suggested that her mouth is slowly opening and
- 34:34that if you dare to peer inside of it, you may just catch a
- 34:37glimpse of baby like teeth sprouting from her porcelain
- 34:41gums, as if whoever or whatever she is is slowly turning to
- 34:48flesh and bone. The paranormal displays of her
- 34:52power continue to occur as well. Her permanent home, located
- 34:56within the managing temple, is her own private shrine where she
- 35:00sits in a small wooden box on display.
- 35:04It is here that she watches and waits for anyone and everyone
- 35:09who dares to play with fire and invoke the power of the entity
- 35:14known as Okiku. But what are your thoughts?
- 35:19Was Ikiku the girl trapped inside of the doll?
- 35:22In my opinion, although her spirit would be much older now,
- 35:26at the time of her death she was either close to or was three
- 35:30years old. And no person at that age is
- 35:33capable of true malice to the point to where she would become
- 35:37aware enough to begin to blame her parents and then torment
- 35:41them for decades to come as children, our parents, or our
- 35:45family, our entire world. So I find it incredibly
- 35:49difficult to think that these bizarre happenings, the result
- 35:53of her soul being restless and imbuing the doll.
- 35:57What I find more likely, and all the more interesting really, is
- 36:01the thought of invocation, or the imbuing of the doll like a
- 36:05conduit or a vessel of sorts. Akiku, the girl was, as they
- 36:11said, inseparable from this doll.
- 36:13She fed it, bathed it, took naps with it and everything else a
- 36:18small child would do with that wonderful imagination that they
- 36:21have. But could all of this dedication
- 36:24and focus, accompanied with the tragedy that took place, allow
- 36:29for a portal to open for an entity, whether non human or
- 36:33restless human spirit, to inhabit the doll?
- 36:37And by non human I mean a demon. This would make sense to me.
- 36:42Something that enjoys and grows more powerful off of pain and
- 36:46misfortune or the emotional torment of others as it causes
- 36:50the pain it feeds off of it and grows ever stronger.
- 36:55This would not only explain the malevolent manifestations of
- 36:58whatever entity is present, but would also explain the still
- 37:02present force and the alleged ever growing power of it.
- 37:06And depending on the entity's strength, it could also explain
- 37:10why the cleansings thus far have failed.
- 37:13However, if you find yourself taking a trip to Japan anytime
- 37:17soon, or you happen to call Japan home if you find yourself
- 37:22in Hokkaido, you may want to steer clear of the Manajin
- 37:25Temple. Because if you don't, the entity
- 37:28that inhabits the doll known as Akiku may just use you as its
- 37:33next feeding source, where it'll begin to plague your dreams,
- 37:38making you twist and turn sweat and fear as it grows ever
- 37:45stronger and attempts to cross from its world into ours, making
- 37:51our plane of existence its permanent residence.

- 38:43take care. Can a toy be haunted, let alone
- 38:56cause harm to anyone who comes into contact with it or views
- 39:01its image with seemingly unknown origins but possessing an energy
- 39:07that radiates pure evil? The item, specifically the doll
- 39:12that we will be discussing today, is rumoured to be able to
- 39:16not only affect people who come into contact with it in the
- 39:19flesh, but to even have the ability to reach you through the
- 39:24screens of your device. So if this is something you
- 39:27fear, a risk you potentially don't want to take, then I
- 39:32highly suggest you find another video to watch.
- 39:36This is the untold story of Peggy the doll and the
- 39:40malevolent presence that surrounds it.
- 39:46If you enjoy my content then I know you'll enjoy a very similar
- 39:50style over at The Missing Chapter.
- 39:53This video was made possible by Bob Hicks and his amazing

- 40:00Every case is unique and covered in an incredible style that
- 40:04makes the channel fantastic, so please take a few moments to go
- 40:08and check out his content. There's only so much information
- 40:12available on this particular case.
- 40:15All information has been researched using a variety of
- 40:18sources including books, websites and first hand
- 40:21accounts. Please be aware that some names
- 40:24have been changed to protect the identity of those involved, and
- 40:28with such little information found, I've done my best to form
- 40:32the most cohesive story possible.
- 40:34I would also like to warn you that supposedly viewing photos
- 40:38of Peggy or videos have caused distress, physical issues, and
- 40:43more shrouded in mysterious allure.
- 40:47The toy known as Peggy the Doll is said to house an otherworldly
- 40:50essence that radiates A profound feeling of evil.
- 40:56Intertwined with chilling terrors that have ensnared the
- 40:59collective curiosity of the public.
- 41:02Believed to be in a perpetual state of unrest, it has
- 41:06captivated the minds of many since its initial discovery now
- 41:10nine years ago. The true origin of Peggy is
- 41:13unknown, but the world became aware of its existence in 2015.
- 41:20This very year, a woman who wishes for her identity to
- 41:24remain anonymous had been out at a local garage sale in her area
- 41:28in search of something cool to take home at a fair price.
- 41:33As she perused, the various bins sat upon tables, seeing if
- 41:37anything interested. Her.
- 41:39Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted an adorable looking
- 41:42doll with blonde hair, beaded blue eyes and a small white
- 41:47dress adorning her. Feeling some kind of pull
- 41:51towards the doll and feeling as if she would enjoy the presence
- 41:54of a new companion, she quickly purchased the toy that in due
- 41:58time she would start calling Peggy.
- 42:01But almost as soon as Peggy entered her life and was placed
- 42:05inside of her home, strange things began to happen.
- 42:10The woman began to have horrendous nightmares every
- 42:13single night, ones that were so bad that when she woke up she'd
- 42:18be laying in a pool of her own sweat, unable to catch her
- 42:22breath. Day after day, the increasingly
- 42:26ominous, empty gaze of Peggy stared into her soul, slowly but
- 42:31surely increasing her anxiety. And night after night, these
- 42:37horrendous nightmares would continue.
- 42:40To induce terror. In a short period of time, the
- 42:44persistent force made the air so thick that you could cut it with
- 42:48a knife. Roughly 3 weeks upon the
- 42:51purchase of the doll and the start of the nightmares, the
- 42:55woman dreaded inevitably falling asleep each night.
- 42:59She had also come to the personal conclusion that
- 43:02something was indeed very wrong with Peggy.
- 43:06Each night in her nightmares, she was being pursued by some
- 43:11kind of entity that for the longest time she was unable to
- 43:15see. And yet each night's sleep would
- 43:18mirror the last, and each one the story seemed to progress
- 43:23upon. Drifting off into dreamland, she
- 43:26would find herself back in the same terrifying circumstances in
- 43:30which she had been in previously, and what she saw was
- 43:34truly disturbing. Slowly, the entity that pursued
- 43:39her, which at first was masked by darkness, began to reveal
- 43:44itself. It formed a figure, the figure
- 43:48of a doll, and over time the doll began to become a hideous
- 43:53amalgamation between that of a doll and an old woman, a
- 43:58grotesque monstrosity, one that would leave her shaking in utter
- 44:03distress. This shook this poor lady to her
- 44:07core, especially since she had never experienced anything like
- 44:11this before. Believing this to be a
- 44:13manifestation of evil, she tried various methods to quell the
- 44:18abyss that seemed to take such great interest in her.
- 44:21After Peggy entered her life, she tried moving the doll to
- 44:25various spots within her home, but that didn't seem to work.
- 44:30She consulted 2 priests at two different churches, both of
- 44:34which whose blessings didn't seem to work.
- 44:38If anything, this seemed to make the circumstances so much worse.
- 44:43Peggy began to move around on her own, and in conjunction with
- 44:46this she began breaking multiple items within the home as well.
- 44:51She finally, out of desperation, moved Peggy into her shed,
- 44:55hoping that with the doll being outside of the home that her
- 44:58torment would cease. This however failed and if
- 45:04anything seemed to anger whatever entity was present.
- 45:08Seemingly exhausting all known options at the time and out of
- 45:12desperation and hours of research, she found and emailed
- 45:17someone who she believed would be equipped to help her and or
- 45:21figure out just what was taking place.
- 45:23A renowned British paranormal investigator, A woman by the
- 45:28name of Jane Harris, who ran the organization Haunted Dolls.
- 45:33After a brief correspondence, Harris agreed to accept Peggy
- 45:37the doll so it was placed in the post and mailed to her.
- 45:41But as the doll made its long journey to Harris's residence,
- 45:45little did she know that she too would become one of the entity's
- 45:50victims. The doll would arrive in a tan
- 45:54box upon Harris's doorstep roughly 3 weeks later when she
- 45:58brought the box inside of her home, but as soon as her foot
- 46:01crossed the threshold, she would later say that it was as if the
- 46:05whole energy seemed to shift within her house.
- 46:09As she unboxed the toy and presented it to the first rays
- 46:12of light it had seen in nearly a month, she almost immediately
- 46:16began the induction process. She set aside a space for Peggy
- 46:20and attempted to establish a baseline to see if anything
- 46:24abnormal seemed to be coming from the doll.
- 46:27Placing her within a glass stand, her and several of her
- 46:30colleagues began to set up night vision cameras, digital cameras,
- 46:35and motion detectors. After this was done, they
- 46:38examined it with an EMF meter, but nothing at first seemed to
- 46:43be odd about the doll, other than the feeling Harris had upon
- 46:47bringing it into her home. They left the doll for an
- 46:50overnight examination to see if any of their cameras or motion
- 46:54detectors picked up on anything, but after the first night they
- 46:58would discover nothing. Despite the lack of findings,
- 47:01the team's protocol would dictate that the next step would
- 47:04be to bring in several mediums to try and see if they felt
- 47:08anything in regards to the object.
- 47:11This, however, takes time and schedule, so in the meantime it
- 47:15would have to essentially sit on the back burner.
- 47:19It was now November of 2015 and approximately 6 weeks after
- 47:24Peggy the doll had arrived on the doorsteps of Jane Harris.
- 47:28Strangely, almost out of the blue, because she wasn't known
- 47:32to have issues like these before, Jane was suddenly hit
- 47:36with an unyielding, debilitating fatigue.
- 47:39Barely able to move, she remained bedridden for roughly 2
- 47:43weeks and that's when her body began to be racked with horrible
- 47:47migraines accompanied with nausea.
- 47:51This would cause her to not only put a pause on her normal
- 47:54paranormal works, but she was also unable to care for her two
- 47:58young children. Despite getting 8 to 9 hours of
- 48:01solid sleep at night, plus naps due to the exhaustion and
- 48:05suffering for several weeks, Harris's condition was not
- 48:10improving. 3 doctors had ran all sorts of tests and yet nothing
- 48:15was coming back. Abnormal blood tests ruled out
- 48:18thyroid issues. She had no signs of anemia, or
- 48:22any other kind of illness for that matter.
- 48:25Left with no other explanation, Jane had to consider the
- 48:28possibility, since it was the only factor that had recently
- 48:32changed in her life, that perhaps her ailed state was a
- 48:36result of the presence of Peggy the doll.
- 48:40Wanting an outside opinion, she decided to contact a friend and
- 48:44clairvoyant whom she had worked with on other cases, a medium
- 48:50named Patricia Redmond. On November 13th, roughly a week
- 48:54after being asked, Patricia would agree to take and examine
- 48:58Peggy, and for the first time in over a month, Jane slowly but
- 49:02surely began to feel better. She wasn't drained of energy.
- 49:07Her constant migraines and nausea were gone, and her skin,
- 49:11which had taken quite the Gray tone since she'd fallen.
- 49:14I'll began to go back to normal. Redmond would have the doll for
- 49:19approximately 3 weeks and agreed to return it to Harris, but not
- 49:23before casting a spell of protection upon it in hopes that
- 49:27if the doll was affecting her that it would no longer bother
- 49:30her during her studies. Her conclusion, and strangely,
- 49:35what would become the conclusion of three other side kicks over
- 49:38the course of the investigation, was that Peggy contained the
- 49:42spirit of a woman from London, England.
- 49:46It is thought that she is possessed by the spirit of a
- 49:48woman born in 1946 and London's Holland Park who died of a chest
- 49:54related condition, possibly an asthma attack.
- 49:58The readings would. Further uncover that the woman
- 50:00was persecuted and had a very hard life, that she disliked
- 50:05clowns and cats, and that she died horribly and alone, of
- 50:10asphyxiation, cold and by herself.
- 50:15Could this perhaps be why she was so angry and death?
- 50:18And why did she inhabit the doll to begin with?
- 50:22These questions perhaps will never be answered or have yet to
- 50:25be uncovered. During the course of the
- 50:28investigation through her social media for Haunted dolls, Jane
- 50:33began to post updates regarding Peggy the Doll as she would with
- 50:36any of the items or other objects the group would be
- 50:40involved with. The photos and videos of Peggy
- 50:43began to draw visceral reactions from those who viewed them in
- 50:48conjunction with strange manifestations of the
- 50:51paranormal, and not just a handful of people.
- 50:54Over the years, hundreds have poured in, leading most to
- 50:58believe that there has to be some kind of correlation.
- 51:01These experiences people have had range from horrible
- 51:05headaches, anxiety and nausea to shortness of breath, abnormal
- 51:10heartbeat and more with others their computers freezing upon
- 51:15the image of Peggy light bulbs exploding and in one instance a
- 51:20candle falling over and causing a small fire.
- 51:24These are just some of the comments that have been said
- 51:27upon viewing the images and videos.
- 51:31Upon viewing the doll, I had a full blown asthma attack which
- 51:35hasn't occurred in almost a decade.
- 51:37Are traumans. I've had a migraine in
- 51:40palpitation since seeing your doll.
- 51:43Please contact me, Jay. Claire, This is so strange.
- 51:48Can dogs and cats sense evil? Since I opened the photo of that
- 51:52doll, my little terrier Molly has been snarling and growling
- 51:57at the screen. I'm a bit freaked out.
- 52:00Jay Carlton One woman, upon viewing an image of Peggy, had a
- 52:05dream that some kind of figure was chasing her cat and
- 52:09eventually caught it as it was running up to her door.
- 52:12Upon waking up and going to check on her beloved pet, after
- 52:16not finding it within her home, she checked her front door and
- 52:21found the cat no longer alive. It was if it had been mauled.
- 52:26Eventually, the doll would find a new home at the Haunted Museum
- 52:30owned by controversial paranormal investigator Zach
- 52:34Bagans. He or she resides in her own
- 52:36space, in a glass display where people continue to experience
- 52:41strange feelings and occurrences as a result of being within her
- 52:46presence. But before we go, this case, to
- 52:50me poses several questions which I'd like to address.
- 52:53First of which, if we take things at face value, if Peggy
- 52:57was possessed, why would the spirit choose to inhabit a doll
- 53:01and then also cause so much torment?
- 53:04I found that if a spirit is restless and angry in life and
- 53:08odds are they become lost souls when they die, they may seek
- 53:12something to inhabit that would allow them to gain access to
- 53:15people and or their homes to which they can take out their
- 53:19frustration just like people, which they were.
- 53:23If they're evil or angry in life, odds are they will be in
- 53:27death as well, where the nightmare is the result of an
- 53:30overactive imagination. It is pretty well known that
- 53:34some entities like to infiltrate dreams.
- 53:36Why this is a thing it's uncertain, perhaps to cause
- 53:40distress in which they can feed upon.
- 53:43And what about the physical ailments?
- 53:45This perhaps could have been a coincidence if it hadn't
- 53:48affected so many people over the years or so.
- 53:51They claim the odds that so many people would express physical
- 53:55issues or strange manifestations as a result of seeing or being
- 54:00in contact with the doll is indeed odd.
- 54:03And lastly, was it even a human spirit inhabiting the vessel at
- 54:07all, or perhaps something inhuman?
- 54:09These questions and more of course, will likely never be
- 54:13able to answer, which leaves this case shrouded and yet more
- 54:17mystery. So if you find yourself being
- 54:19pulled towards a particular item, unless you are vastly
- 54:23experienced, you may want to give its allure a second thought
- 54:27because this calling could potentially open up a
- 54:30nightmarish world of torment, harassment and terror.

- 55:17I'll see you next time. When a young woman receives a
- 55:25birthday gift of a doll from her mother, she is first elated,
- 55:31believing it to make a wonderful companion.
- 55:34When the doll begins to move on its own, it soon reveals its
- 55:39malevolent nature. It will take the.
- 55:43Expertise of renowned demonologists and priests to
- 55:47help free them from the entity that now infest their lives.
- 55:52Will they make it out alive before it's too late?
- 55:56This is the untold story of Annabelle, the demonic doll of
- 56:02Connecticut, and this story just may make you think twice about
- 56:07your keepsakes. Our story begins in 197025 year
- 56:26old Deirdre Bernard has recently moved into her first apartment
- 56:30with her two friends, an engaged couple named Laura Clifton and
- 56:36Cal Randell. Her mother had bought her a gift
- 56:39for her birthday and hoped that it would keep her daughter's
- 56:43spirits up and spread joy to her new home as she pursued her
- 56:47education and nursing. Deirdre loved the gift, finding
- 56:52its rosy red cheeks with hair to match to be a fun companion for
- 56:57her new journey in life. Shortly after admiring her new
- 57:01doll, she placed it on her bed with its arms and legs out for
- 57:07the next several days. It became routine for Deirdre to
- 57:10come home from her studies, spend time with the doll, and
- 57:14then place her back in the exact same position with its arms and
- 57:19legs out on her bed. Oddly, however, after the first
- 57:24several days of this new routine, the young woman began
- 57:28to notice that something wasn't quite right.
- 57:31Every morning she would lay her doll back on her bed before
- 57:34heading to school with its arms and legs stretched out.
- 57:38Yet every night upon her return, she would find the doll in
- 57:43different positions. Sometimes the doll's legs would
- 57:47be crossed and other times its arms.
- 57:51And as the days went on, it would even start to be seen in
- 57:55different parts of her room, often times with its arms
- 57:59pointed outward. But Deirdre's room would not be
- 58:04its only occupied space. The doll would begin to be found
- 58:08in various positions all over the apartment, and Deirdre
- 58:13wasn't the only person who was witnessing these bizarre
- 58:17manifestations. Her two roommates would seem to
- 58:22bear witness to them as well. One evening, Deirdre returned
- 58:26home with her roommate Laura, who was also a trainee nurse at
- 58:30the time, and her fiancee, Cow. Upon opening the door to their
- 58:35apartment, they would find the dog kneeling before them in a
- 58:40chair facing the door, as if it had been waiting for them to
- 58:45return. This not only scared everyone,
- 58:49but especially Deirdre, because she knew for a fact that as per
- 58:54her routine that she had placed the doll on her bed that very
- 58:58morning it had inexplicably moved on its own.
- 59:04To try and make sense of all this, they moved the doll and
- 59:07then tried to reposition it back into its original kneeling
- 59:11stance, the same one they had seen when initially walking
- 59:15through the door. But each time they tried to
- 59:17replicate the position. Due to the design of the doll,
- 59:21this proved impossible. The movement of the doll as well
- 59:25as its position now left the trio at a loss for words.
- 59:30The only conclusion they could draw from the situation was that
- 59:34some kind of force was manipulating the doll.
- 59:38Deirdre would place the doll back in its normal position on
- 59:41her bed for the night, but this experience would be far from the
- 59:46last for all of them. Just several days.
- 59:50Following the previously mentioned happening, a new
- 59:53phenomenon began to manifest. Little notes written in pencil
- 59:59on parchment paper began to be found randomly throughout the
- 1:00:03apartment and at random times. The messages included such
- 1:00:08phrases as help us or help Cal, But despite the messages urgent
- 1:00:16requests for help, no one was able to figure out just what
- 1:00:19they were referring to because none of them were experiencing
- 1:00:24an urgent situation, including Cal.
- 1:00:28And weirder still, none of them kept parchment paper or pencils.
- 1:00:34This realization just further deepened the mystery that was
- 1:00:38now unfolding before their very eyes.
- 1:00:42At first, they believed that possibly someone was breaking
- 1:00:46into their apartment to play pranks on them.
- 1:00:49So in order to check if this indeed was the case, Deirdre and
- 1:00:53Laura began leaving marks around the windows and doors, marks
- 1:00:58that, if disturbed, would show later on.
- 1:01:02They also rearranged their furniture in an effort to ensure
- 1:01:05that if anyone was entering their apartment unannounced that
- 1:01:09they would leave a trace. But again, later that night,
- 1:01:14upon their return from their studies, none of the furniture
- 1:01:19had been disturbed, nor had any of their marks.
- 1:01:23Yet the doll had moved rooms. Frightened and perplexed at this
- 1:01:29point, the trio tried to come up with some potential solutions,
- 1:01:34but as they individually gave them thought day in and day out,
- 1:01:38the doll would continue to move on its own accord, positions and
- 1:01:44places. One day the three would return
- 1:01:48yet again, as per their routine to find the doll yet again and
- 1:01:54another part of the apartment. But this time there was
- 1:01:58something different. This time they found it sat with
- 1:02:03some kind of liquid on its hands.
- 1:02:06Upon a closer look, they were even more frightened, because
- 1:02:11the liquid appeared to be blood. And this blood was all over the
- 1:02:16doll's hands, as well as three distinct dots of blood were also
- 1:02:22on its chest. Terrified, the three sat in the
- 1:02:26living room and tried to figure out some kind of game plan on
- 1:02:30how to handle the paranormal situation they found themselves
- 1:02:33in. Deidre would grab a phone book
- 1:02:36from the cupboard and begin flicking through the pages as
- 1:02:39the group talked, one of her fingers would finally rest on a
- 1:02:44psychic mediums number. During the brief call, they
- 1:02:48would explain that they had been experiencing ghostly type
- 1:02:51activity within their apartment, but they did not inform her
- 1:02:56about the doll specifically. She would arrive the following
- 1:03:00day to see what she could do to help.
- 1:03:04As she walked through the apartment, she began to explain
- 1:03:08to Laura and Deirdre about the spirit she felt had inhabited
- 1:03:12the building. The ladies would eventually make
- 1:03:15their way to Deirdre's room where the doll currently SAT.
- 1:03:19They asked what the medium felt in regards to the doll.
- 1:03:24Upon examining it, she said she felt a strong presence
- 1:03:27surrounding the object, but informed the two that she would
- 1:03:31need to conduct a seance around it in order to discover more
- 1:03:36information. So a seance was agreed to.
- 1:03:41As the ritual was conducted around the doll, the medium
- 1:03:44began to divulge information to Laura and Deirdre.
- 1:03:47She claimed that she had channeled the spirit of a 7 year
- 1:03:50old little girl named Annabelle Higgins.
- 1:03:54She said that Annabelle used to play in the area long before the
- 1:03:58houses and apartment buildings were there, back when all that
- 1:04:02existed were fields. Many innocent and happy hours
- 1:04:07were passed here until suddenly they ended.
- 1:04:12Annabelle was confused as to what had happened to her, to
- 1:04:16which the medium interpreted to be her death.
- 1:04:20And since her death, the child had wandered the place she was
- 1:04:23the happiest the fields. Once the apartments were built
- 1:04:29upon them, the halls quickly became a lonely place for her to
- 1:04:34haunt, with the lifestyles of most modern people requiring
- 1:04:38work most of the time. This meant that Annabelle had no
- 1:04:42one to play with. But then one day, two young
- 1:04:47women brought with them a playful looking doll.
- 1:04:51Finally she had something to play with again, and more so she
- 1:04:57had the comfort of two young women who she believed would be
- 1:05:01more empathetic and accepting of her and would allow her to play
- 1:05:06with them through the vessel of the medium.
- 1:05:09Annabel would ask if she could live in the doll and be with
- 1:05:13Deirdre and Laura. Touched by the young girl's
- 1:05:16story, the two women agreed and following the seance, they would
- 1:05:21name the doll Annabelle and the young girl's honor.
- 1:05:25A truly nice gesture from the two of them.
- 1:05:29However, upon agreeing to have Annabelle inhabit the doll and
- 1:05:33stay with them is when the haunting truly began.
- 1:05:38Convinced now that they were sharing a space with Annabelle,
- 1:05:42they began to treat the doll as a living, breathing person.
- 1:05:47It was no longer a lifeless. Toy.
- 1:05:50But the young and lonely little girl, regardless of the two
- 1:05:55ladies compassion, Cal was not so convinced.
- 1:06:00He sensed that something was very off in regards to this
- 1:06:03entire situation and believed that no good would come of it.
- 1:06:09He thought the doll could possibly be some kind of
- 1:06:11trickster or a conduit that disguised its true intentions.
- 1:06:17And in time, perhaps he was right.
- 1:06:22In the weeks. Following the seance, Cal began
- 1:06:25to feel ill at most times of the day with no rational origin and
- 1:06:31at night every night he began to have horrible nightmares.
- 1:06:38These experiences culminated with Cal waking up one night to
- 1:06:42find Annabelle gliding over his body.
- 1:06:45Before he could react. The doll's hands were on either
- 1:06:49side of his neck, strangling. Him.
- 1:06:52Its large void like eyes staring into his as it sought to steal
- 1:06:59his life. In a later interview, Cal would
- 1:07:03describe the event like this. While I was lying there, I
- 1:07:08suddenly woke up and something seemed wrong to me.
- 1:07:12I looked around the room, but nothing was out of place.
- 1:07:17But then I looked down towards my feet and I saw the rag doll,
- 1:07:21Annabelle. It was slowly gliding up my
- 1:07:25body. It moved over my chest and
- 1:07:28stopped. Then it put its two arms out.
- 1:07:33One arm touched one side of my neck and the other touched the
- 1:07:37other side like it was making an electrical connection.
- 1:07:41Then I began to be strangled. I was writhing and trying to
- 1:07:46push the doll off my chest, but I might as well have been
- 1:07:50pushing on a wall because it wouldn't move.
- 1:07:54As hard as he pushed against the doll, it would not budget, and
- 1:07:59just as he felt like he was slipping into unconsciousness
- 1:08:03with every fiber of his being, he pushed back and finally was
- 1:08:08able to throw the doll away from him.
- 1:08:11However, despite A terror struck but relieved Cow, this would be
- 1:08:16far from the last time that Annabelle would seek to destroy.
- 1:08:21One night, when Deirdre was out of the apartment, Laura and Cow
- 1:08:26were spending time together in the living room.
- 1:08:29This relaxing time, however, was quickly interrupted with a large
- 1:08:33banging sound that emanated from Deirdre's room.
- 1:08:37The couple, confused as to what it could be, rushed to find the
- 1:08:41source with Cal headed in first. They threw the door open,
- 1:08:46expecting to see someone, but to their surprise they were only
- 1:08:51met with the icy gaze of Annabelle.
- 1:08:55She was staring at them from the floor, as if she had been tossed
- 1:08:59aside by someone. Cal walked over to the doll and
- 1:09:02went to pick it up, but suddenly he dropped Annabelle and
- 1:09:07screamed in pain. The young man winced in agony as
- 1:09:12white hot slashes lashed his chest.
- 1:09:16A small pool of blood began to form in the middle of his shirt
- 1:09:20as he frantically darted towards the door.
- 1:09:23Laura was paralysed with fear as her boyfriend had been attacked
- 1:09:27by something that neither of them could see.
- 1:09:30The two would run out of the room and back to the living room
- 1:09:33as soon as possible, praying to God that this force wasn't
- 1:09:37pursuing them. When they reached the sofa,
- 1:09:41Laura pulled up cow's blood soaked shirt to find several
- 1:09:44large gashes on his chest that looked like claw marks.
- 1:09:50By now it was becoming increasingly clear that
- 1:09:53Annabelle sought to harm them upon informing Deirdre of what
- 1:09:58had happened while she was gone. When she arrived back at the
- 1:10:01apartment, the three, unsure of what else to do, contacted the
- 1:10:07local priest for help. He would in turn request
- 1:10:11permission to help from his superiors, and his superiors,
- 1:10:15then passed on the information to paranormal investigators Ed
- 1:10:20and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens were intrigued by
- 1:10:23what was allegedly taking place and decided to pursue the case
- 1:10:28in hopes of helping the young trio, upon arriving at their
- 1:10:32apartment. Hearing each person's
- 1:10:34testimonies and observing how the space felt as well as the
- 1:10:39doll itself, the Warrens believed the happenings to be a
- 1:10:44result of a heavy demonic infestation.
- 1:10:49They believed that the demon didn't specifically haunt just
- 1:10:52their apartment, but rather the building itself and the land
- 1:10:57around it that it had seen the doll as a weigh in.
- 1:11:02They further explained that the seance had essentially allowed
- 1:11:05the demon to communicate directly with them to be invited
- 1:11:09into their lives. All of those who were present
- 1:11:13and taking place in the ritual were highly vulnerable
- 1:11:16spiritually, and this opened them up to manipulation from the
- 1:11:22demon, which spun a false narrative that it was instead
- 1:11:26the spirit of little lonely Annabelle.
- 1:11:32Then, following the sounds, Deidre and Laura had paid
- 1:11:36credence to the. Doll.
- 1:11:37Instead of ignoring it, which only fed the demon more energy,
- 1:11:43it would then continue to feed off them by manipulating their
- 1:11:47caring and maternal emotions, since the women were powerless
- 1:11:52to resist feeling sorry for the little girl who just wanted to
- 1:11:56play and be cared for. But once the women had accepted
- 1:12:00the demon into their lives, they and everyone around them became
- 1:12:05fair game. The entity no longer had to
- 1:12:09masquerade itself, it was free to unleash its true form.
- 1:12:14The couple had sensed that the demon was a very powerful one,
- 1:12:18given how strong it had continued to grow and infest
- 1:12:22their lives. Given its proclivity to
- 1:12:25violence, if left unchecked, it would have probably tried to
- 1:12:29kill one or all of them within the next several weeks.
- 1:12:35After explaining the seriousness of the situation, they found
- 1:12:38themselves in the Warrens, then contacted a priest they
- 1:12:41frequently worked with on demonic cases.
- 1:12:45A man named Father Everett and Father Everett agreed to come
- 1:12:50and bless the apartment in an attempt to weaken or drive out
- 1:12:55the demon entirely. In due time, he too would arrive
- 1:13:00and conduct the Blessing once Father Everett was finished and
- 1:13:04had departed. The Warrens warned the group
- 1:13:07that if the Blessing hadn't driven the demon out that it at
- 1:13:11this time was severely weakened but could potentially come back
- 1:13:15with a vengeance. Believing the doll to be a
- 1:13:18conduit at Deirdre's request, the Warrens took Annabelle with
- 1:13:23them when they left Deirdre, Laura, and Cal.
- 1:13:28We're now thankfully free of the demonic entity that had plagued
- 1:13:32their lives. However, Annabelle's story is
- 1:13:37far from over. The Warren's problem seemed to
- 1:13:41begin as soon as Annabelle was stuffed into Ed's briefcase.
- 1:13:46As the couple was headed home, they began to experience engine
- 1:13:50issues in their vehicle which almost resulted in multiple head
- 1:13:54on collisions. The demonic entity was causing
- 1:13:58the power steering and brakes to fail, and even the engine to
- 1:14:03stall once they were able to finally get back home.
- 1:14:07The doll would be placed within the Warren's office specifically
- 1:14:12with an edge, chair and the days to come.
- 1:14:15The Warrens would begin to witness the doll manifesting
- 1:14:18paranormal activity within their very house.
- 1:14:22The doll was seen levitating on several occasions and began to
- 1:14:27frequently teleport to different rooms, and the same little notes
- 1:14:33written with pencil on parchment paper began to appear with all
- 1:14:39too familiar phrases such as help me and Then Now help us.
- 1:14:46On top of this one evening, while she was alone, Lorraine
- 1:14:51began to hear what she described as loud, rolling growls that
- 1:14:56reverberated within the walls and throughout their entire
- 1:15:00house. Following this night, the
- 1:15:04Warrens would be visited by Father Daniel Mills, a Catholic
- 1:15:08priest the couple were also working with.
- 1:15:11Upon inquiring about their dealings with the doll, the
- 1:15:15priest made the mistake of picking up Annabelle and telling
- 1:15:19her that you are nothing but a rag doll and you can't hurt
- 1:15:24anything. As the priest laughed, had
- 1:15:27warned him to never touch or say anything like that to the doll
- 1:15:32ever again. As he prepared to leave,
- 1:15:35Lorraine warned the priest to please drive carefully, because
- 1:15:39her clairvoyance had revealed to her an impending tragedy
- 1:15:43involving a young priest. Appreciating her concern but
- 1:15:48riding the situation off, Father Mills departed the Warren's
- 1:15:52residence. A few hours later he would be
- 1:15:56involved in a near fatal car accident which totaled his
- 1:16:00vehicle after his car's brakes had mysteriously failed.
- 1:16:08Upon receiving the news that the priest was hurt but would
- 1:16:11survive following the accident, the Warrens decided to lock
- 1:16:15Annabelle away in hopes that she would never be able to hurt
- 1:16:19anyone ever again. They would douse her in holy
- 1:16:23water and place her within a blessed glass case.
- 1:16:27A blessed crucifix would also be placed on the outside of the
- 1:16:32box, as well as a warning sign asking anyone who may come
- 1:16:37across the doll not to touch it. The doll was then placed and
- 1:16:42their occult item collection. Although Annabelle was now
- 1:16:46sealed away in hopes that she would no longer harm anyone, her
- 1:16:50power still seems to affect those who visit her.
- 1:16:55After Ed passed away, Lorraine and several interviews would
- 1:17:00refer to Annabelle as one of the most evil objects she had ever
- 1:17:04come into contact with. Besides numerous bouts of bad
- 1:17:08luck, some people have even said to have encountered death as a
- 1:17:13result of meeting her. As well as others.
- 1:17:17Losing their minds completely and ending up in psychiatric
- 1:17:21care for the rest of their earthly existence.
- 1:17:25One day a young man visited the Warrens Museum and clearly did
- 1:17:30not think things through. He went up to and challenged the
- 1:17:34doll, wanting the worst of whatever it had to offer.
- 1:17:39He had apparently driven to the museum with his girlfriend on
- 1:17:43his motorcycle. Upon their departure, 3 hours
- 1:17:47into their trip home, the man would lose control of his
- 1:17:51vehicle and would hit a tree at a very high speed.
- 1:17:56He would die almost instantly due to the impact.
- 1:18:01His girlfriend, on the other hand, survived, but would remain
- 1:18:05hospitalized for over a year. Was this particular instance
- 1:18:11coincidence, or the demon inhabiting the doll, inflicting
- 1:18:16exactly what it had to offer? Although the Warrens did explain
- 1:18:20how the demon came into the doll, it begs a bit of a deeper
- 1:18:24question, one that we've seen reoccurring multiple times over
- 1:18:30our various coverage of haunted objects.
- 1:18:33And that is, how much attention is too much attention or
- 1:18:38dedication when it comes to objects 'cause it seems like
- 1:18:42depending on your spiritual state and location, that
- 1:18:46dedication or that imbuement could potentially open the door
- 1:18:51or create a vessel for something malicious to make its way in.
- 1:18:57I know that the Warrens are controversial figures now, even
- 1:19:01in death, but regardless, they are integral to many of the
- 1:19:05paranormal stories we have and will have covered in the future.
- 1:19:11But what do you think? Was Annabelle truly possessed?
- 1:19:16Was the whole case legitimate or a hoax?
- 1:19:20And with these questions you may find yourself wondering where is
- 1:19:24the Annabelle doll today? Annabelle remains sealed in the
- 1:19:28same box she was placed in 50 years ago.
- 1:19:32Adam, Lorraine's daughter Judy Spira and her husband Tony
- 1:19:36continue to hold the torch for the warrants and their work.
- 1:19:41Annabelle is on display for all to see at the Occult Museum and
- 1:19:46if you choose to visit, if you happen to find yourself staring
- 1:19:50into her big dark eyes, just know that if you stare too long
- 1:19:56into the abyss, the abyss just may stare back at you.

- 1:20:21All those things help me out a ton.
- 1:20:22That's why I ask you guys to do them all the time.
- 1:20:25I did also just want to announce here and I will also be doing
- 1:20:28some separate promotional videos for something I've never done
- 1:20:31before, which is a meet and greet.
- 1:20:34So I will be a guest at the 2023 Tennessee Haunts and Legend
- 1:20:38Expo, which will take place on Saturday, October 21st at the
- 1:20:43Nashville Fairgrounds. There's going to be a ton of
- 1:20:46stuff to do and see and lots of scary stories and legends to
- 1:20:50learn about. So if you'd like the opportunity
- 1:20:53to meet me, I will have a booth there.
- 1:20:55I'll have some shirts, some cards, and probably some other
- 1:20:58stuff and I'd be happy to chat with you guys.
- 1:21:01I'll also be joined by my Co host Hayden from the Mystery
- 1:21:03Archives podcast. So come out, have a great time
- 1:21:08and see how boring I actually am.
- 1:21:10Other than that, guys, I hope you're all having a great
- 1:21:12October and I wish you nothing but the absolute best.
- 1:21:16As always, this has been Cody here at Mystery Archives.
- 1:21:21Remember to stay safe out there and take care.
