- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from news Talk st be
- 0:12Speaker 1: follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The Bahutakawa are out and flowering and abundant. The days
- 0:21Speaker 2: are longer, the sun is shining, the Reserve Bank has
- 0:24Speaker 2: cut the ocr Christmas is coming, Summer holidays are on
- 0:28Speaker 2: the horizon. Chris Hopkins was talking tough around any kind
- 0:31Speaker 2: of coalition with the Greens. We're in charge and we're
- 0:34Speaker 2: not going to have this rabidly socialist nonsense, was the
- 0:37Speaker 2: clear implication. Commentators are saying that this point now here
- 0:44Speaker 2: is rock bottom. I know we've been told things are
- 0:48Speaker 2: nearing the bottom, nearing the Nadia, but this is it
- 0:55Speaker 2: and now things are on the up. So how confident
- 1:00Speaker 2: are you feeling. I know, when we've talked about this
- 1:03Speaker 2: in the past, you've been bruised by past events and
- 1:06Speaker 2: that's informed the way you're thinking. Who could blame you?
- 1:10Speaker 2: The world has been a very uncertain place over the
- 1:13Speaker 2: past five years, and nobody could blame you for hunkering
- 1:17Speaker 2: down and keeping your nuts hoarded away. Nobody. Some of
- 1:22Speaker 2: you have said, those of you that have got the
- 1:26Speaker 2: readies to invest you have said, I'm not willing to.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I'm just not willing to. I'm not willing to grow
- 1:32Speaker 2: my business. I'm not willing to take risk in case
- 1:37Speaker 2: labor gets backon. Well, where are you at right now?
- 1:41Speaker 2: The Reserve Bank lowered the OCR to two point twenty five,
- 1:46Speaker 2: the ninth reduction since August twenty twenty four. The Bank
- 1:50Speaker 2: said economic activity is picking up, Inflation is forecast to
- 1:54Speaker 2: fall to two percent by mid twenty twenty six, and
- 1:57Speaker 2: that will help households. And listen to Roger Gray from
- 2:02Speaker 2: the Ports of Auckland, who was on with Heather Duplicy
- 2:03Speaker 2: Ellen last night.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Nine months ago, I was in Miami talking to the
- 2:07Speaker 3: cruise lines and understand why they were dropping off their bookings,
- 2:12Speaker 3: and the feedback across the whole lot of the four
- 2:15Speaker 3: cruise lines I went to was they felt that New
- 2:18Speaker 3: Zealand was just simply too hard to deal with because
- 2:20Speaker 3: people were so negative about things. What I think is
- 2:23Speaker 3: interesting is that's where we were and that was their perception.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But the cool thing is now I think there's a
- 2:29Speaker 3: real change going on amongst people. There's a real starting
- 2:32Speaker 3: to be a positivity amongst a lot of people, and
- 2:36Speaker 3: I think the bleddersone North warf is a great example
- 2:38Speaker 3: if you can just get on and do stuff. We've
- 2:40Speaker 3: created two hundred and fifty new jobs for Aucklanders and
- 2:43Speaker 3: that wharf will be finished by the end of next year.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So that was Roger Gay. He was saying, Yeah, we
- 2:48Speaker 2: used to be known as No Zealand and it was
- 2:51Speaker 2: all like oh no, no, no, I don't bother investing here.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's all too hard. Oh you'll lose your money. Is
- 2:59Speaker 2: quite difference, quite different now quite different. He's picking up
- 3:04Speaker 2: the positivity, he's seeing more of it. Where are you
- 3:08Speaker 2: at right now? Now? As we go into Christmas, there's
- 3:13Speaker 2: a month of busyness for many companies and many businesses
- 3:16Speaker 2: and many workers. It's a busy time of year up
- 3:20Speaker 2: until a couple of weeks before Christmas, a week before Christmas.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Then as we go into Christmas and the Christmas holidays.
- 3:27Speaker 2: How are you feeling about going into twenty twenty six?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Are you feeling optimistic? Can you feel the tide is turning?
