- 14:21Lego Lions make history with triple win at regional. In
- 14:27a debut season that exceeded all expectations, the Thompson Scholar
- 14:33Lego Lions proved that being a rookie team is no
- 14:37barrier to excellence. Competing in their first ever first Lego
- 14:43League Regional tournament, the Clay County team walked away with
- 14:48a haul of trophies and a reputation for resilience that
- 14:53left a lasting impression on judges and competitors alike. The
- 14:58performance also earned them an invite to state competition, a
- 15:04David versus Goliath showdown. The highlight of the tournament came
- 15:09during a high stakes final match where the Thompson Scholar
- 15:14Lego Lions faced off against Louisville's Sacred Heart Academy, a
- 15:18perennial powerhouse with years of international competition experience and an
- 15:25entire ACA academy dedicated to STEM. While the Lions ultimately
- 15:32fell to the Louisville team, the razor thin margin of
- 15:36defeat sent shock waves through the venue. Our kids faced
- 15:42off against Sacred Heart in the final game of the tournament,
- 15:51and you have to unders stand the scale of the challenge,
- 15:55said lead coach Mark Jason Smith. This is a team
- 16:00that has competed internationally for multiple years and represents an
- 16:06entire academy dedicated specifically to STEM excellence. We fell to
- 16:12them by a mere ten points, which is the closest
- 16:17any team has played them this entire season, and truly
- 16:22closer than most veteran teams have played them in seasons past.
- 16:27In a high pressure environment like that, you expect a
- 16:31first year team to feel the weight of the moment,
- 16:34but our kids didn't flinch. They stood their ground against
- 16:38one of the best programs in the country. They held
- 16:41the line and they did their job. I couldn't be
- 16:45more proud of their composure bringing home the hardware. The
- 16:49Lion's performance on the field was matched by their character
- 16:54off of it. The team returned to Clay County with
- 16:57an impressive trophy hall first place Core Values Award, the
- 17:02tournament's top honer for teamwork and sportsmanship, second Place Robot
- 17:09Games Award, recognizing their elite tier performance, and autonomous missions,
- 17:16the Brandon Robinson Persistence Award. In a moment of historic recognition,
- 17:22the Lions were named the first ever recipients of this award,
- 17:28which honors the team that shows the most grit in
- 17:32determination and overcoming technical obstacles the Clay County Standard. While
- 17:40the team narrowly missed an automatic bid to the fll
- 17:45Kentucky State Tournament, currently holding the position of first Alternate,
- 17:51the coachers believe the weekend was a definite victory. We
- 17:56are off from Clay County and winning is what we
- 18:00we do, noted Robot design coach Denver Word. Of course,
- 18:07we were disappointed not to advance, but seeing our progress
- 18:11in just a few short months and seeing how well
- 18:14we measured up to teams that have been doing this
- 18:18for over a decade, it's a really good feeling. The
- 18:23Thompson scholar Lego Lions have officially put the Kentucky Robotic
- 18:28Circuit on notice there is a new powerhouse emerging from
- 18:33Clay County Sports. Tigers fall in Bobby Keith Classic Manchester, Kentucky.
- 18:44A one point loss to a solid Woodford County team
- 18:48capped off the Bobby Keith Classic as Clay County fell
- 18:53fifty six to fifty five to the Yellowjackets on Saturday evening.
- 18:58The Tigers had no answers for Woodford's leading score O'mari Joyner,
- 19:04who posted twenty six against clay County. A tight first
- 19:09half saw each team making runs, with Woodford County even
- 19:13going ahead as much as eleven points. The Tigers hung
- 19:18in despite an off night, battling for every bucket and
- 19:22rebound as well. Clay County was led by a dual
- 19:27scores in Aiden Grubb and Aiden Wagers, as each posted
- 19:35seventeen points in the loss. Clay County was behind twenty
- 19:40to eighteen twenty to eighteen after the first quarter, but
- 19:44foul trouble began to strike and push Grub to the bench.
- 19:48In the second quarter. Woodford carried a thirty two to
- 19:51twenty six lead into the break down forty to thirty
- 19:56with three minutes to go in the third. The Tigers
- 19:59could have folded and gave up, but they battled back
- 20:03ferociously to bring it within six as the fourth quarter
- 20:07began forty four to thirty eight. While the effort was there,
- 20:12the points simply were not. The Tigers just needed a
- 20:16basket here or there, or a play there to bring
- 20:22this one home. Sometimes that's just how it falls. The
- 20:26loss pushes Clay County to twelve and six on the season.
- 20:30Aiden Grubb had seventeen Aiden Wagers seventeen, Jacob Rogers eight,
- 20:35Maxton Gray six, Brody Hooker five, Jay Nicholson two. Next article,

- 22:04Jima Parks was very proud of her team's effort on
- 22:07both ends of the court, as well as Macy White's
- 22:11record breaking performance. Quote, Macy is going to be one
- 22:16of the best pure shooters to ever play in Clay

- 22:26very proud of not only her, but the collective tonight.

- 23:32them to the victory. Heading into the fourth quarter, carrying
- 23:36a narrow forty nine to forty six lead, Clay County
- 23:40was able to pull away with the victory after sinking

- 24:43The Tigers slammed the brakes on Harlan's four game winning

- 25:00holding him scoreless while also allowing only one Harland player
- 25:05to hit double figures in Ethan Huff with ten points.
- 25:10Aiden Wagers led the Tigers with twenty one points and
- 25:13seven rebounds, continuing his stellar senior season as one of

- 25:25with simply due to their versatility each year. Quote they
- 25:30always have five guys on the floor who can shoot
- 25:32it well and are able to attack you off the bounce. Quote,
- 25:36said Jones. Quote. The first quarter they had us on
- 25:41our heels, so we had to adjust our defense. For
- 25:44the last three quarters we guarded much better and it
- 25:47was the difference in the game. This was the second
- 25:51time Clay County has defeated the Green Dragons this season,
- 25:55completing the regular season sweep of Harland. The Tigers moved
- 26:00to a twelve and five record after the win. Aiden

- 26:33a win is a win, said coach Jima Parks. Our
- 26:36jumpers weren't falling as much as tonight, but were responded
- 26:41by doing a great job of scoring inside. Score inside
- 26:45they did. Indeed. Carly Foltz led the Lady Tigers with
- 26:48an eighteen point eight rebound performance that's become the new
- 26:55normal for her. Macy White poured in thirteen points, while

- 27:02Rice each added six. Close Throughout the first half, Clay

- 27:15the break and put the pedal to the medal, outscoring
- 27:19PCC twenty four to ten in the third quarter to
- 27:25extend the lead. The Lady Tigers also forced numerous turnovers,
