  Speaker 4: us from delivering the message, we will get out and

  Speaker 4: Author's Awards last month. How was that ceremony? Were you

  Speaker 6: I was able to make it there. I had family

  Speaker 6: there and everything. It was an exciting night. I mean,

  Speaker 6: it was not what I expected. By what I mean

  Speaker 6: is that I didn't know what to expect because I

  Speaker 6: was basically new.

  Speaker 5: You know, I've just been with.
• 11:32
  Speaker 6: Them since August this year. Okay, August, that's September. But
• 11:37
  Speaker 6: it was good to be a nominee.

  Speaker 5: You know.

  Speaker 4: Well, I am glad that you were able to be

  Speaker 4: in the space and you wrote a book determined to win.

  Speaker 4: It's your autobiography and your profession of faith. What made

  Speaker 4: you decide to write that book?

  Speaker 6: Because God had just truly delivered me from so much
• 11:57
  Speaker 6: I wanted to start. I started out trying to do
• 11:59
  Speaker 6: oh yeah, ago, trying to journal. I could not do
• 12:03
  Speaker 6: it because I know people like Oprah Winfrey.
• 12:06
  Speaker 5: Did you know. I figure I'm gonna be successive. I
• 12:07
  Speaker 5: can do this.

  Speaker 6: God, it's gonna wake this thing alive. It's gonna be
• 12:11
  Speaker 6: live for me, and I'm able to do this thing.

  Speaker 6: And I'm gonna go on and move. But you know
• 12:15
  Speaker 6: he's done so much. And see I just ooh, I
• 12:18
  Speaker 6: can't tell it all. You know, it really arrived from
• 12:23
  Speaker 6: me being bullied.

  Speaker 1: You know.

  Speaker 5: When I was young. When I was I just slept.
• 12:31
  Speaker 6: I tried it out gaining weight when I was very
• 12:33
  Speaker 6: very young, yes, ma'am. And I kept gaining and kept gaining.

  Speaker 6: I actually got up to three hundred and seven we
• 12:40
  Speaker 6: telln here forty seven and a half pounds, okay. And
• 12:44
  Speaker 6: I didn't think I could lose weight. But then me,
• 12:47
  Speaker 6: while going trying to get through school, I thought that
• 12:52
  Speaker 6: I couldn't learn because my mind was so messed up.
• 12:54
  Speaker 6: People don't know what bullian does in so many ways,
• 12:59
  Speaker 6: you know, Billy, and really can't affect your entire life,
• 13:02
  Speaker 6: and for years, not just for that moment that it's happening,
• 13:05
  Speaker 6: but you with you.

  Speaker 4: The words lasts a long time.

  Speaker 6: You know, words hurt. They say, they say words don't hurt,

  Speaker 6: but yes they do. But the thing about words heal
• 13:16
  Speaker 6: also yeh. They can't heal you, yes. And the thing
• 13:19
  Speaker 6: is I did.

  Speaker 5: I couldn't learn to read. And I told God I
• 13:22
  Speaker 5: wanted to go to college.
• 13:24
  Speaker 6: And I was determined. I guess that's why the name
• 13:28
  Speaker 6: of this book was determined to do it. And I knew
• 13:31
  Speaker 6: that I did not have the grades for it. But
• 13:33
  Speaker 6: God sent me to go on your college for the
• 13:35
  Speaker 6: ninth grade reading score and I and I don't know
• 13:39
  Speaker 6: if that happened today. I guess with God, anything can happen,
• 13:41
  Speaker 6: you know, I know it. Anthing can happen. Everything is
• 13:44
  Speaker 6: possible with him, And so I was so happy. I
• 13:47
  Speaker 6: wanted to learn, but I couldn't get it right in school.
• 13:50
  Speaker 6: I couldn't get the vowels and the syllables. I couldn't
• 13:53
  Speaker 6: I didn't know how they worked together. And my mind
• 13:56
  Speaker 6: was just trying to be invisible, trying not to hear
• 13:58
  Speaker 6: all the noise what they were doing about my way.

  Speaker 6: It's different now, though, it's a lot just overweight now
• 14:05
  Speaker 6: because most of America, a lot of them gets overweight.

  Speaker 5: Yes, and these are loved ones and they don't.

  Speaker 6: When I was coming up, it was like leopardsy if
• 14:14
  Speaker 6: you over wait, didn't nobody want to sit by you,
• 14:17
  Speaker 6: they didn't want to play with you.

  Speaker 5: It was just horrible for me. So when I did
• 14:22
  Speaker 5: go on and grow up, and I kept getting bigger
• 14:25
  Speaker 5: and bigger. And I was twelve. I war sixteen. When
• 14:27
  Speaker 5: I was sixteen, I war twenty four and a half.

  Speaker 5: I went on the way up to a thirty thirty
• 14:32
  Speaker 5: two okay, and I learned to read.

  Speaker 6: I went on to college and I oh girl, I
• 14:39
  Speaker 6: Terry and Stuffer, and I used the wester Dictionary. I

  Speaker 6: just did everything. I used my sisters, people that can
• 14:46
  Speaker 6: really read. And it helped me get through college. And
• 14:48
  Speaker 6: I did get a sea. I graduated with a Sea.
• 14:50
  Speaker 5: From Columbia College. Old girl. But he wasn't through with
• 14:55
  Speaker 5: me yet. Now. He taught me to read through the Bible.

  Speaker 6: After I graduated from college, I really learned to read it.

  Speaker 6: But in college I had started writing because I had
• 15:05
  Speaker 6: writing classes and I had acting classes, and I started
• 15:08
  Speaker 6: writing my own.

  Speaker 5: It was hard. I would get home and I write
• 15:11
  Speaker 5: that thing. But I couldn't.
• 15:13
  Speaker 6: I couldn't do cold readings or anything you know, to
• 15:18
  Speaker 6: act or anything you know, because the end up East semester, you.
• 15:21
  Speaker 5: Have to get in a play, because you know, that
• 15:23
  Speaker 5: was my thing acting. So I had to get in
• 15:25
  Speaker 5: a play.
• 15:26
  Speaker 6: And so they one would see me in one, and
• 15:28
  Speaker 6: I was so good that they didn't have me uh,
• 15:31
  Speaker 6: you know, I did you what elaw was?
• 15:33
  Speaker 5: It was?

  Speaker 6: It was fantastic. But then I graduated. God taught me
• 15:37
  Speaker 6: to read through the Bible. I became a Sunday school teacher,

  Speaker 6: and then they had a Sunday school teacher class and
• 15:44
  Speaker 6: I became valedictorians. And then twenty five years later he
• 15:50
  Speaker 6: sent me back to school. I'm double masters and I
• 15:54
  Speaker 6: have a Master in Urban Ministry and a Master in
• 15:57
  Speaker 6: Christian Studies and I graduated come loddy in both of them.

  Speaker 4: Now see you look at God, Look at God.

  Speaker 6: We just look at God sitting here with with oxygen
• 16:08
  Speaker 6: on right now. They told me I was going away
• 16:10
  Speaker 6: oxygen for the rest of my life.

  Speaker 4: Listen, God has the final say and everything. Man knows nothing.

  Speaker 4: Man knows nothing. And that's that's one thing that we
• 16:20
  Speaker 4: touched on last night, the conversation that I had last
• 16:24
  Speaker 4: night with my mentor. And God always has the final say.

  Speaker 4: It always will always put you in situations we don't
• 16:32
  Speaker 4: know what term of all that we're going through. When
• 16:36
  Speaker 4: we're kids, you know, people say hurtful things to us
• 16:39
  Speaker 4: and we carry that for a long time. Like we're
• 16:43
  Speaker 4: talking about you being overweight for me, my family the bbls.
• 16:48
  Speaker 4: They are big things now, but for me as a
• 16:51
  Speaker 4: little girl growing up having big hips and the big
• 16:55
  Speaker 4: behind things of that nature, I got made fun of
• 16:57
  Speaker 4: those things as a kid is growing up now everybody

  Speaker 4: paying money to get those things around.
• 17:06
  Speaker 5: Doesn't he.
• 17:09
  Speaker 4: I'm like, it's not all that's cracked up to be.
• 17:11
  Speaker 4: I've been had this my whole life, and now y'all
• 17:14
  Speaker 4: paying money to go and get what God like. It's crazy,
• 17:19
  Speaker 4: but I had that. My family would always say, well,
• 17:22
  Speaker 4: your butt's too big. You need to push it in.
• 17:24
  Speaker 4: You know, you You're too skinny to have all that
• 17:27
  Speaker 4: behind you. And I'm like, okay. And then when I
• 17:29
  Speaker 4: started to gain weight after having kids, oh, well you
• 17:32
  Speaker 4: too big. So then I got too fat. Then I
• 17:37
  Speaker 4: lost the weight. Then I became too skinny. So it
• 17:40
  Speaker 4: was never a good space to be in because family
• 17:44
  Speaker 4: made fun of me. So I had to learn to
• 17:46
  Speaker 4: embrace the body that God gave me. Be fluffy and
• 17:51
  Speaker 4: I'm gonna be content. So if I lose the weight, great,
• 17:54
  Speaker 4: If I don't, it's fine, it's right.

  Speaker 5: Mm hmm, but.
• 18:03
  Speaker 4: Go ahead, go ahead.

  Speaker 6: Yeah, I hear what you're saying. Is because I found
• 18:06
  Speaker 6: that out years later. After I worried about that all
• 18:09
  Speaker 6: those many years. I'm seeing these people now it doesn't matter.

  Speaker 6: I mean they got romantic roles and everything on TV.
• 18:15
  Speaker 6: Now their wives and they haven't romantic relationships. Yeah, I

  Speaker 6: didn't see that kind of stuff. Only time you could
• 18:24
  Speaker 6: see an overweight person in the movie.
• 18:26
  Speaker 5: Okay, I'm old.
• 18:27
  Speaker 6: Okay, know that you would see that old person in
• 18:32
  Speaker 6: the movie that was even eating so you can laugh
• 18:34
  Speaker 6: at them, or they gave them the part for people
• 18:37
  Speaker 6: to laugh at.
• 18:38
  Speaker 5: There's the only parts that you can get.
• 18:40
  Speaker 6: Then now they have meaningful parts because they realize it
• 18:44
  Speaker 6: doesn't matter the wh you're tall, short, fat, or skinny.

  Speaker 5: Whatever, it is human yourself. I had to learn how
• 18:51
  Speaker 5: to love me.

  Speaker 4: Yep, I didn't love that. You can't. Nobody tell you
• 18:57
  Speaker 4: nothing with the love of God. And I think one

  Speaker 4: thing that we don't understand when we are listening to

  Speaker 4: the world and not listening to God is that we
• 19:05
  Speaker 4: were created in God's image. So the image that He
• 19:08
  Speaker 4: created us in was already perfect. We don't need to

  Speaker 4: improve on his his his masterpiece. It was already created

  Speaker 4: in his eyes. We just have to learn to love
• 19:18
  Speaker 4: it from the outside, from the inside out. And once

  Speaker 4: you do that, you know that God made you the

  Speaker 4: way that he sees you, and your image and his

  Speaker 4: eyes is always perfect. You can't improve on God's perfection,

  Speaker 6: you because you didn't wait until you got old like

  Speaker 6: me to understand your south and know and see now

  Speaker 5: God is uniche. He unleased the power of God in me.

  Speaker 5: I know who I loaned to, I know who I am. Yeah.

  Speaker 6: I came from low esteem, being down, plotting, even I

  Speaker 6: had people in my family. It was worse than people

  Speaker 6: out think because you know, you want people in your
• 20:04
  Speaker 6: family to be your.

  Speaker 5: Hero, right, you know.

  Speaker 4: And it was just hard and sometimes enemy too.

  Speaker 6: Yes, And that's what I went through in like, this
• 20:13
  Speaker 6: book tells a lot of things even come faster, all

  Speaker 6: the stuff I went through trying to find love all
• 20:19
  Speaker 6: these many years because I wanted to be loved and

  Speaker 6: the way people treated me, I felt like I didn't
• 20:26
  Speaker 6: deserve it.

  Speaker 4: son and my daughter, they had been outside playing and

  Speaker 4: they came in to hear what the doctor had told me.

  Speaker 4: And I have been diagnosed with a condition called Eppeleachia

  Speaker 4: parti illis continue and it's basically localized cazures to one
• 22:08
  Speaker 4: side of the body.

  Speaker 5: Oh wow.

  Speaker 4: And so my kids were just laughing and joking and

  Speaker 4: just being kids. And I was like, do you guys

  Speaker 4: understand what I was telling you? And y'all are just

  Speaker 4: running around here, laughing and joking and carrying on. And

  Speaker 4: my son said, well, it's your fault that we're this way.

  Speaker 4: And I was like, what do you mean? And he

  Speaker 4: was like, you always told us that the thing that

  Speaker 4: you give the most energy to, the feeling that you're feeling,

  Speaker 4: whether you're feeling angry, whether you're feeling sad, whether you're

  Speaker 4: that I need to. But your attitude can't go with

  Speaker 6: medical problem then as the number one has MS, and

  Speaker 6: in a nursing home.

  Speaker 5: But I'm there almost every day.

  Speaker 6: So therefore I know exactly what you're talking about, and

  Speaker 6: not all everywhere. And but it's something that God put

  Speaker 6: in us to make us nurturing and do with things

  Speaker 6: that we do. Yeah, you know, our heart have to

  Speaker 6: be in a certain place. It's not to say that

  Speaker 6: if these people are on their feeting out there and

  Speaker 6: able to do that, they would do the same thing

  Speaker 6: for you. But that's not what the Rob told us

  Speaker 4: disability facility where the patients, especially when they first come

  Speaker 4: in and like they've had a stroke or whatever, and

  Speaker 4: then you know their family members are coming regularly, and

  Speaker 4: then when they slowly stop coming, you have those family

  Speaker 4: members who don't understand why their family isn't coming to

  Speaker 4: see them anyway, and then they slowly start to have
• 34:06
  Speaker 4: memory loss, they start going through the early stages of
• 34:09
  Speaker 4: dementia and things of that nature because they are longing
• 34:13
  Speaker 4: for that attention, that family love and stuff like that.

  Speaker 4: I had a couple of patients when I used to
• 34:20
  Speaker 4: work at the facility that they would just be so

  Speaker 4: mean to other caregivers and workers. And I was just

  Speaker 4: the receptionist, but most of the residents they would gravitate

  Speaker 4: towards me at the front desk, and my administrators would
• 34:37
  Speaker 4: get mad and they're like, why do you have everybody
• 34:40
  Speaker 4: up around the front desk. They're not supposed I said, listen,
• 34:43
  Speaker 4: it's not that I'm calling them to come up here.

  Speaker 4: They feel comfort and they feel peace. And so where

  Speaker 4: they find comfort and where they find peace, if that

  Speaker 4: is what I bring to them, they gonna be up

  Speaker 4: here and I can't help that. And they would get

  Speaker 4: so mad. Some of my residents will get so mad

  Speaker 4: when i'd be going further weekend. They wouldn't see me

  Speaker 4: the capabilities to take care of you at home. But

  Speaker 5: I can by myself anymore. So I had to have her.

  Speaker 6: the nursing home because he needed more help.

  Speaker 5: Okay, And that was a long time ago.

  Speaker 6: And what I said to my sister was, you will

  Speaker 6: here and anybody, everybody the nursing home know me. They

  Speaker 6: that lived there, they know me by name. I even

  Speaker 6: get a ministered there on the fourth Sunday for a

  Speaker 6: very long time. Okay, hell I, you know, I appreciate

  Speaker 6: and I took my service to there on the fourth Sunday,

  Speaker 6: and uh so everybody knows me. And now the administrators

  Speaker 4: Even in your darkest moments, God had purpose for that.

  Speaker 4: And we don't understand that when we're down in the dirt,

  Speaker 4: we're being covered up. God is planting seeds for us

  Speaker 4: to blossom outside. And so you gotta understand that even

  Speaker 4: in that darkness, if you have God on your side,

  Speaker 4: he's gonna bring you down and you're gonna blossom to

  Speaker 4: everything that He has for you. So there's no prayer

  Speaker 4: that goes unanswered. Nothing is gonna happen without God's will.

  Speaker 4: It's always attached to that. And so when we understand
• 42:41
  Speaker 4: that God did not put us on here for nothing.

  Speaker 4: There is a purpose for everything, even when it's hard,

  Speaker 4: even when it looks like it's not gonna be something

  Speaker 4: God has purpose behind the pain. There's purpose in the darkness,

  Speaker 4: there's purpose in the light. There's purpose all around you.

  Speaker 4: But if you be spoken, it's on that negative that's

  Speaker 4: all you're gonna see. But like you said, you gotta

  Speaker 4: So this flow and when you overflow, that overflow flows

  Speaker 4: to somebody. You're never empty. And I had to learn

  Speaker 4: that too for myself because when I was dealing with

  Speaker 4: my health issues and things of that nature, I was

  Speaker 4: so negative. I really was. I was negative to the

  Speaker 4: space of God. Why is this happening to me? Why

  Speaker 4: would you put all of this on me at one time?

  Speaker 4: Because I was dealing with, you know, my health, I

  Speaker 4: was going through a divorce and separation from my kids father.

  Speaker 4: I was trying to take care of my mama, trying

  Speaker 4: to take care of my sister, and then I ended
• 43:46
  Speaker 4: up having a stroke, and I was like, Okay, what
• 43:49
  Speaker 4: is all of this compound at one time? What is

  Speaker 4: it that I'm supposed to be doing. My sister told
• 43:54
  Speaker 4: me that she wished that I was there. My mama
• 43:57
  Speaker 4: told me the same thing, Like it was so much
• 44:00
  Speaker 4: going on at one time, and I'm like, what is
• 44:02
  Speaker 4: it that you want.
• 44:03
  Speaker 5: Me to do?
• 44:04
  Speaker 4: Because at this point I don't see no purpose behind
• 44:07
  Speaker 4: none of this.

  Speaker 5: It's like that. But he uses us.

  Speaker 6: and seeing sometimes when people see that you're moving in

  Speaker 6: the way of the Lord, they don't understand. I mean

  Speaker 6: have to understand. We have to understand that's always at play.

  Speaker 6: But what I'm saying is that we have to understand

  Speaker 6: sometimes when they seem like we're being stretched out, you know,

  Speaker 4: but what happened was I was going to look for

  Speaker 4: a cooler for the house, something that I could put

  Speaker 4: like my little condiments. And because we were without power,

  Speaker 4: the powers out for I was out without power for
• 46:20
  Speaker 4: like almost eleven days, and so I was just trying

  Speaker 4: to find a cooler so I could put some ice
• 46:25
  Speaker 4: and stuff in. And so she happened to be on
• 46:28
  Speaker 4: the aisle and she happened to be talking to herself,
• 46:32
  Speaker 4: so to speak. She was like, baby, forgive me, I'm
• 46:35
  Speaker 4: just having a conversation with myself. And I said, you
• 46:37
  Speaker 4: know what, don't even worry about I said, that's the
• 46:39
  Speaker 4: way you get expert advice when you're talking to yourself. Yes,
• 46:43
  Speaker 4: you're gonna get the answer that you won't. And so
• 46:46
  Speaker 4: I didn't think anything of it. So we just ended
• 46:48
  Speaker 4: up starting to talk and she was like, you seem
• 46:52
  Speaker 4: like you know God. I said, yes, ma'am, I know

  Speaker 4: him very well. I said, he I get on his
• 46:57
  Speaker 4: nerves some days. But you know, she said, I just

  Speaker 4: want to talk to you. She said, is it gonna
• 47:03
  Speaker 4: bother you? I said, no, ma'am, I swear I talked

  Speaker 4: to that lady. I know at least thirty minutes. Were
• 47:09
  Speaker 4: just talking about the goodness of God, me about how
• 47:14
  Speaker 4: her house had been hit by a tree and how
• 47:19
  Speaker 4: it had taken out the power line to her house
• 47:25
  Speaker 4: and the people around her. They had restored power to
• 47:28
  Speaker 4: their houses, but they could not do her house because
• 47:32
  Speaker 4: had they turned the power onto her house, it would
• 47:35
  Speaker 4: have caught her house on fire because of the way
• 47:38
  Speaker 4: it was wired. So she was like, she was lucky
• 47:41
  Speaker 4: to literally still God be alive, because she says she
• 47:45
  Speaker 4: had been standing in her French doors at the back
• 47:48
  Speaker 4: of her house when the tree fell. It missed her
• 47:53
  Speaker 4: by three inches. So she was there in that space
• 47:57
  Speaker 4: to share her story of how God has been wr

  Speaker 4: and she lives by herself, and I was like, you know,
• 48:05
  Speaker 4: God is always gonna watch out for his kids, even
• 48:07
  Speaker 4: when we're not watching out for ourselves. So you know,

  Speaker 4: God intended for us to be in this space to
• 48:14
  Speaker 4: talk about Him and how you've been able to do

  Speaker 4: all of the things that you've been doing, because she

  Speaker 4: traveled as a minister and doing missionary work and stuff

  Speaker 4: like that. And so I was like, I didn't understand

  Speaker 4: how our past was gonna cross because I saw you

  Speaker 4: when you walked in, but I didn't pay it any attention.

  Speaker 4: I said, but we're over here now discussing how good

  Speaker 4: God is. And I was not even intended on coming

  Speaker 4: to this store today, but it was for a purpose,

  Speaker 4: I said. So I look at everything like that. And

  Speaker 4: so we talked for a good thirty minutes and you know,

  Speaker 4: she's a sweet little lady and she was she gave

  Speaker 4: me a hug and everything, and I was like, my

  Speaker 4: son called. He was like, Okay, what you doing in

  Speaker 4: the store. I'm talking you know.

  Speaker 5: Friend, that's when you let the Lord our life money.

  Speaker 4: in a space where God didn't ordain for you to
