1:14
Speaker 3: go ahead and tell you right now, if you're going
1:15
Speaker 3: to be traveling in the Charleston area, don't Okay, now
1:19
Speaker 3: I'm kidding about that, but there are traffic tie ups everywhere,
1:22
Speaker 3: and I'll try to get in that a little bit
1:24
Speaker 3: later on. But plan accordingly. If you're coming into the city,
1:27
Speaker 3: or it's really not the city as much as it is,
1:29
Speaker 3: think the interstate. So just know institutes, just know the
1:33
Speaker 3: Carter Bridge. There's a lot of traffic out there today,
1:36
Speaker 3: so it's going to be continuing, so just be prepared,
1:40
Speaker 3: no before you go. As they say coming up on
1:42
Speaker 3: the show today, it's been one of the more popular
1:45
Speaker 3: events in Charleston for years, and now it's not gonna
1:47
Speaker 3: happen anymore. Talking about Girls' Night Out, Sandy call is
1:50
Speaker 3: someone who's been heavily involved with that event for the year.
1:53
Speaker 3: She's going to join us to talk about him. Kinnaw
1:54
Speaker 3: County Prosecutor Deb Rusnick is here to talk about some
1:57
Speaker 3: news out of the Gavin Smith trial. There is a
1:59
Speaker 3: new executive director of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association
2:03
Speaker 3: and he is friend of the program. Jim Workman of
2:05
Speaker 3: Wally and Whimpy's fame. He's going to join us to
2:07
Speaker 3: talk about that and to talk about the return of
2:09
Speaker 3: rich Rod. Yesterday, of course, the Big twelve media event
2:13
Speaker 3: down in Texas, Coach Rod pretty much stole the show.
2:16
Speaker 3: He was the highlight and all the eyes and cameras
2:19
Speaker 3: and phones were on him down there. So we'll talk
2:21
Speaker 3: to Jim about that, and as always, your phone calls

2:32
Speaker 3: let's welcome to the show. Canon County Commissioner A. Lance Wheeler,
2:35
Speaker 3: Good morning, sir, Welcome to the show.
2:36
Speaker 5: Good morning Dave, thanks for having me, Thank you.
2:38
Speaker 3: For being here. Big happenings at Meadlewood Park in Tornado.
2:42
Speaker 3: Ribbon cutting happening this Saturday at ten.
2:44
Speaker 5: Talk about him, Well, I think we want to back
2:46
Speaker 5: up and just talk about what we've been doing at
2:48
Speaker 5: the Kenaw County Commission when it comes to our playgrounds.
2:51
Speaker 3: Okay, you know that was gonna be my next point. Yeah,
2:54
Speaker 3: but I like your plan better. Well, thank you very much. Well,
2:58
Speaker 3: you know what I think we want to look at is.
3:01
Speaker 5: I was looking at our playgrounds Coonskin Pounder Park metal
3:05
Speaker 5: Wood in Tornado, and I noticed just how dilapidated they were,
3:09
Speaker 5: how there was rust, plastic broken off. They were unsafe
3:14
Speaker 5: for our children to be playing in our parks. And
3:17
Speaker 5: that was something that was very concerning for me because
3:19
Speaker 5: to somebody who has a three year old and a
3:21
Speaker 5: one year old, I wouldn't put my kids on those playgrounds.
3:24
Speaker 5: And if that's the case, then as an elected official,
3:26
Speaker 5: I think we have the due diligence to make right
3:30
Speaker 5: in providing these outdoor activities for our children. And so
3:34
Speaker 5: with Commissioner Selango, Commissioner Tenant, and myself, we've moved forward
3:38
Speaker 5: with this infrastructure project to revitalize and change the playgrounds
3:45
Speaker 5: at our parks, and metal Wood's going to be the
3:47
Speaker 5: first one. We're going to be having the ribbon cutting
3:49
Speaker 5: this Saturday at Metoalwood Park, which is located in Tornado,
3:53
Speaker 5: West Virginia. We have redesigned and replaced the entire playground.
3:59
Speaker 5: It's going to have a section for older kids and
4:01
Speaker 5: younger kids. It's gonna have swings which weren't there before.
4:05
Speaker 5: And this is just an incredible infrastructure for our children,
4:10
Speaker 5: not just for the people of Tornado, which you know,
4:13
Speaker 5: I feel have been underserved for a long time. But
4:16
Speaker 5: this is the place that kids from Saint Albans, from Nitro,
4:20
Speaker 5: from Charleston can come enjoy this beautiful park in meadow
4:24
Speaker 5: Wood and have a place to safely play on a
4:27
Speaker 5: playground and then create memories. And I think that's what's
4:30
Speaker 5: important about this announcement, this ribbon cutting on Saturday, is
4:34
Speaker 5: creating a safe place to create memories for kids and
4:38
Speaker 5: the families in this entire region.
4:40
Speaker 3: Here we're talking with Kennawk County Commission on land sweet
4:43
Speaker 3: how long has that park been there? It had been
4:44
Speaker 3: an operation to have any idea.
4:46
Speaker 5: That park was attained from a land grabbed in nineteen
4:53
Speaker 5: fifty nine, I believe from the Kennaw County Commission. It
4:55
Speaker 5: was an old farm and there was a lawsuit and
4:59
Speaker 5: in that lawsuit, the Cannall County Commission was able to
5:01
Speaker 5: obtain that land and you know, a lot of that's
5:05
Speaker 5: just been there. And I think that I want to
5:06
Speaker 5: give kudos to the Coal River Group, who is the
5:09
Speaker 5: one that puts on the tord cole that we talked
5:12
Speaker 5: so highly about. But the Coal River Group is established
5:15
Speaker 5: there with one acre of land from the Cannall County
5:18
Speaker 5: Commission and they've been taking care of that park with
5:21
Speaker 5: putting trails in cleaning it up. They've been doing an
5:24
Speaker 5: excellent job. And so this is something that I think
5:27
Speaker 5: with Kennall County Commission and our Kennall County Parks and
5:30
Speaker 5: rec reinvesting in that area and really doing what's best
5:34
Speaker 5: for the children is important, and that's what we've done.
5:38
Speaker 3: And again that area over in Tornado, as you said,
5:42
Speaker 3: a lot of people think and probably rightfully so as
5:45
Speaker 3: you as you stated that it's been underserved through the years.
5:48
Speaker 3: But there's a lot of good people over there and
5:49
Speaker 3: a lot of kids are going to enjoy this.
5:52
Speaker 5: Park absolutely, and I think that anyone who hasn't been
5:55
Speaker 5: to Meadowood Park and Tornado, I would highly encourage you
5:57
Speaker 5: to go and visit today. Once you drive in, it's
6:02
Speaker 5: absolutely breathtaking. You know, you drive in and you're surrounded
6:06
Speaker 5: by trees with a lot of flat land. There's a
6:10
Speaker 5: pond there that the Knaal County Commission stocks with bass
6:14
Speaker 5: and catfish for people of all ages to enjoy. There's
6:18
Speaker 5: walking trails miles and miles of walking trails. Uh, there's
6:22
Speaker 5: the kayak access by the river. I mean, it's just
6:25
Speaker 5: really a wonderful place to go enjoy the outdoors, creating
6:30
Speaker 5: memories with your family and and just having a great time.
6:35
Speaker 5: You know, here in West Virginia, as you know, Dave,
6:37
Speaker 5: we have beautiful mountains, we have beautiful waters with rivers
6:40
Speaker 5: access and Meadowood is an incredible place to be. And
6:46
Speaker 5: with this playground, we're just going to be enticing more
6:48
Speaker 5: people to come and enjoy the outdoors here in Kennall County.
6:51
Speaker 5: And again, at the end of the day, we do
6:53
Speaker 5: this for the children. This is for their future, for
6:55
Speaker 5: them to have a place to safely play on a
6:57
Speaker 5: playground and be able to enjoy creating memories with their families.
7:01
Speaker 3: Talking again with the Kennaugh County Commissioner, Lance Wheeler Dave
7:03
Speaker 3: Alan show on five eighty Live is brought to you
7:05
Speaker 3: in part by Morgan and Morgan. With more than twenty
7:08
Speaker 3: billion dollars recovered. They believe when you're injured, you deserve more.
7:10
Speaker 3: Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. You talked
7:13
Speaker 3: about some of the parks and playgrounds, some of the
7:15
Speaker 3: work that the Commission has been doing here as of
7:18
Speaker 3: late to what's on the radar, I mean for future projects, Well, I.
7:22
Speaker 5: Think we're going to continue to do what we've been
7:23
Speaker 5: making announcements on. You know, we try not to get
7:25
Speaker 5: too overwhelmed sometimes, but you know, we just recently are
7:30
Speaker 5: scheduling a meeting with the State of West Virginia to
7:33
Speaker 5: continue the Appalachian Outlaw trails that I've been on this
7:36
Speaker 5: show to talk about before as I've been going by
7:39
Speaker 5: the way, Well that's what we're going to be doing.
7:41
Speaker 5: Thankfully to the state legislature and Governor Patrick Morrissey, they
7:45
Speaker 5: were able to obtain two hundred and fifty thousand dollars
7:48
Speaker 5: in the budget this year which started July first, So
7:51
Speaker 5: we're going to be having a meeting with the states
7:53
Speaker 5: to discuss moving forward how to be able to utilize
7:57
Speaker 5: that money to you know, create the trailhead with campgrounds
8:03
Speaker 5: with currently two thousand acres of land for dirt bike,
8:08
Speaker 5: ATV and jeep trails, but we've also been working with
8:11
Speaker 5: the landowners that get us to that goal of one
8:14
Speaker 5: hundred thousand acres of trails, which would be the largest
8:18
Speaker 5: trail system trail park in the country. There is no
8:23
Speaker 5: other trail park that has one hundred thousand acres of
8:26
Speaker 5: trails within the United States, and so I think by
8:30
Speaker 5: doing that, having that right in our backyard, right here
8:32
Speaker 5: in Kannall County, just twenty minutes from Charleston, is an
8:36
Speaker 5: incredible opportunity not just for tourism, but for the locals
8:40
Speaker 5: as well to have a place that they're able to
8:42
Speaker 5: enjoy safely riding their ATVs, their side by sides, their
8:46
Speaker 5: dirt bikes, and being able to enjoy the great outdoors,
8:49
Speaker 5: while we're also marketing this to people to come to
8:52
Speaker 5: state of West Virginia to Knnall County and spend their
8:56
Speaker 5: hard earned money in our hotels, our mom and pop shops,
9:00
Speaker 5: gas stations, and enjoy the opportunity of the economic impact
9:04
Speaker 5: that that would bring, while also giving something for the
9:07
Speaker 5: locals to enjoy at the same time. You know I've
9:09
Speaker 5: talked about Dave, it's both those check boxes.
9:11
Speaker 6: Right.
9:11
Speaker 5: If you can look at a project and you can
9:13
Speaker 5: go check check check and it checks all those boxes,
9:16
Speaker 5: you know you've got something great. I think the Appalachian
9:18
Speaker 5: Outlaw Trails is one of those. Obviously, what we've done
9:21
Speaker 5: over in Meadowood with the hatfilm McCoy Dirt Bike Trails,
9:25
Speaker 5: which is for up to forty miles of dirt bike trails,
9:28
Speaker 5: which is the largest east of the Mississippi. I can't
9:32
Speaker 5: find anything west of the Mississippi, but we can't confirm
9:35
Speaker 5: that yet, so let's just say east of the Mississippi.
9:38
Speaker 5: We actually had somebody from Canada drive in overnight just
9:43
Speaker 5: so they could ride on the hatfilm McCoy Dirt Bike
9:46
Speaker 5: Trails and Tornado. That's just showing the investment that the
9:49
Speaker 5: Knaw County Commission has made in the western part of
9:52
Speaker 5: the county and also the eastern part of the county.
9:54
Speaker 5: Really looking at low hanging fruit of what do we
9:57
Speaker 5: have that's best here for economic development?
10:00
Speaker 3: Well, tourism. I mean, look at all.
10:02
Speaker 5: The shops and the restaurants that we have in the
10:04
Speaker 5: urban life of Charleston, South Charleston, Saint Albans, but then
10:08
Speaker 5: also just a couple miles out we've got backwoods, and
10:12
Speaker 5: so having that opportunity that somebody could come here just
10:15
Speaker 5: like we know, spend the day in Charleston enjoying the
10:17
Speaker 5: shops and the restaurants and then driving twenty minutes to
10:21
Speaker 5: go on the largest trail system in the country. Who
10:24
Speaker 5: wouldn't want to come to West Virginia to do that?
10:26
Speaker 5: And I think that's our job, is to bring those
10:28
Speaker 5: people in to spend their hard earned money and continue
10:31
Speaker 5: this investment into our infrastructure, in our economic development.
10:35
Speaker 3: Before we let you go, don't want to ask you
10:37
Speaker 3: about the announcement Tuesday up the airport, And of course
10:41
Speaker 3: we had Commisial Selango was on the show a little
10:43
Speaker 3: bit talking about that yesterday and other people. Now that's
10:45
Speaker 3: a pretty big deal for Charleston, isn't it incredible?
10:48
Speaker 5: I mean, five new flights on the flights that Breeze
10:51
Speaker 5: has already put in. I think that that airport was
10:54
Speaker 5: actually it was nineteen fifties when that airport was built.
10:56
Speaker 5: And if we get these, when we get these five
10:59
Speaker 5: new flights, that will be the most flights coming out
11:03
Speaker 5: in and out of Jaeger Airport ever. We are growing
11:07
Speaker 5: at an airport, you know. Actually after the event, I
11:09
Speaker 5: was able to walk through the airport as we were exiting,
11:12
Speaker 5: and Dave what I saw as a native Kennall County
11:15
Speaker 5: and was I saw people packed in the seats, people
11:20
Speaker 5: were walking through the owls with their bags. The TSA
11:23
Speaker 5: line was a little backed up. I saw a vibrant,
11:27
Speaker 5: well populated airport something growing up. Going to the airport,
11:32
Speaker 5: you would see what day, twenty forty people at max.
11:34
Speaker 5: Maybe there were hundreds of people utilizing the airport. And
11:38
Speaker 5: a lot of that is because the investment that Breeze
11:40
Speaker 5: has put in from the first agreement. So having this
11:43
Speaker 5: second agreement and expanding on that is really an incredible opportunity. Again,
11:48
Speaker 5: not just for economic development, not just for our locals
11:51
Speaker 5: to be able to have access to go other places.
11:54
Speaker 5: But something that's important to me is having the opportunity
11:56
Speaker 5: for people who live outside of West Virginia from here
12:00
Speaker 5: the opportunity to come home. You know, I've received a
12:02
Speaker 5: text message that day and they said, hey, congratulations on
12:05
Speaker 5: the announcement from Breeze. Now I have another option to
12:08
Speaker 5: come home. That's a Native West Virginian. And so the
12:10
Speaker 5: more opportunities we have for those Native West Virginians to
12:13
Speaker 5: come home and see all the great things that we're
12:15
Speaker 5: talking about, maybe they'll decide to come home and stay permanently.
12:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly what I was going to say. Or
12:21
Speaker 3: maybe people that have no ties to the area that
12:23
Speaker 3: want to come check it out. Let's close talking about
12:25
Speaker 3: the ribbon cutting again. Give us the time and all
12:28
Speaker 3: the information about metal Wood Saturday.
12:29
Speaker 5: We're inviting everyone to come bring the kids Metalwood Park
12:33
Speaker 5: in Tornado. It's going to be at ten am July twelfth,
12:36
Speaker 5: this Saturday. Invite everyone and big announcement with that Governor
12:41
Speaker 5: Patrick Morrissey will be there. We'll also be doing the
12:43
Speaker 5: ribbon cutting for the Mountaineer Mile at Metalwood. So this
12:46
Speaker 5: is just promoting healthy activities for everybody of all ages
12:49
Speaker 5: to come out and to enjoy. And we'd love to
12:51
Speaker 5: see everyone there ten am this Saturday, Metalwood in Tornado.

Speaker 3: we're going to talk to Sandy Call, who's been one
16:10
Speaker 3: of the people that's been behind that. Several people have
16:13
Speaker 3: Sandy and I talked a little bit last night, so
16:16
Speaker 3: she's going to come on the show to talk about
16:17
Speaker 3: that's as well. Jim Workman is here our good good buddy.
16:22
Speaker 3: How you doing Man, Hey doing great. Dave appreciate the
16:24
Speaker 3: opportunity to be here, Jim Workman. Of course of Wally
16:27
Speaker 3: and Whippy's fame, you know, the state's premier print sports publication.
16:31
Speaker 3: But now he's got a new title, executive director of
16:34
Speaker 3: the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. That's pretty cool. Congratulations man,
16:40
Speaker 3: thank you.
16:40
Speaker 10: Yeah, it's an honor because really, Doug Huff, he's a
16:45
Speaker 10: national High School Sports Hall of Famer.
16:47
Speaker 3: He's been in Wheeling for his whole life.
16:51
Speaker 10: He's probably about eighty three, and he began his sports
16:55
Speaker 10: journalism career when he was twelve years old, so he
16:58
Speaker 10: has seventy years in this and he's been the executive
17:02
Speaker 10: director or the secretary treasurer of the Sports Writers Association
17:06
Speaker 10: for forty years. So yeah, there's some great opportunity to
17:11
Speaker 10: modernize things and to grow the organization. Rich Stevens is
17:16
Speaker 10: one of the guys that's been instrumental in updating the
17:19
Speaker 10: website WVSWA dot org. I mean, if you wonder like
17:25
Speaker 10: who made all state in sports that we recognize all
17:29
Speaker 10: state members. You can go back years and find that.
17:33
Speaker 3: In settle some bets and arguments, No it wasn't that guy.
17:36
Speaker 3: So what do you got from Stonewall Jackson nineteen seventy
17:39
Speaker 3: six or something like that, Right, I'm sure it's on there.
17:41
Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, they've they've been naming all state teams
17:43
Speaker 10: since the thirties, so and the victory wards dinner's gone
17:47
Speaker 10: on and you know, recognized people like Jerry West and
17:51
Speaker 10: just this past may put Nick Saban into our West
17:55
Speaker 10: Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. So it's kind of a
17:57
Speaker 10: big deal and I'm honored to be a part of it.
18:00
Speaker 3: And so I mean when you hear the term sports writer, now,
18:03
Speaker 3: you know, people may think, well, I mean, how many
18:06
Speaker 3: sports writers are left? But you can't just think about
18:08
Speaker 3: sports writers as being newspaper because there are a lot
18:11
Speaker 3: of different ways I say. People say that newspapers have
18:14
Speaker 3: gone away, and they try to say this about you know,
18:16
Speaker 3: traditional media. It's not gone anywhere. It's just the way
18:19
Speaker 3: that people receive it is changed, That's right.
18:22
Speaker 10: And that's what I'm talking about as far as modernizing it.
18:25
Speaker 10: I mean, sports writers are still going to be important.
18:28
Speaker 10: Print is kind of disappearing a little bit, but you
18:32
Speaker 10: still have to write the online articles, and there's a
18:35
Speaker 10: there's a lot of outlets out there that could be
18:37
Speaker 10: a part of it.
18:38
Speaker 3: The late Doug Scaff a very good friend of mine.
18:41
Speaker 3: When I would have Scaff on the show, he would
18:44
Speaker 3: frequently say, you know, because they talk about the newspapers
18:46
Speaker 3: and the gazette mail and they say, you know, good zett.
18:48
Speaker 3: I may be the only person that's actually has a
18:51
Speaker 3: hard copy of the of the gazett mail. I have
18:52
Speaker 3: one that right, you know, right here beside me right now. However,
18:55
Speaker 3: the numbers online are great because that's where people. People
18:59
Speaker 3: just consume new in different ways. I mean, they listened
19:02
Speaker 3: to this radio station and all of our stations, but
19:06
Speaker 3: you know, wv metronews dot com is pretty, is pretty
19:09
Speaker 3: is the premier news outlet in the state of West Virginia.
19:12
Speaker 3: You know, So there's just just different ways.
19:15
Speaker 10: Yeah, Doug was a good friend of mine, and he
19:17
Speaker 10: was a big fan of Wally's and Whimpy's. As a
19:19
Speaker 10: matter of fact, we talked extensively about possible partnerships with
19:24
Speaker 10: distribution with HD Media and Wally's and Whimpy's and I'm
19:28
Speaker 10: sure that you know well with the West Virginia Sports
19:31
Speaker 10: Writers Association, we'll still be in touch with the guys
19:34
Speaker 10: that were at HD Media and and you know, it's
19:36
Speaker 10: really sad that we lost him, but great supporter of
19:39
Speaker 10: Wally's and Whimpy's and the Sports Writers Association.
19:42
Speaker 3: And there's still a lot of great people there at
19:43
Speaker 3: HD Media. I mean, Doug Scaffle was almost like the
19:45
Speaker 3: face of the company. But i mean here's still a
19:47
Speaker 3: lot of great people. Anthony Lewis, Rick Lord and you
19:50
Speaker 3: know several other several other peoples that are there.
19:52
Speaker 10: Both of those guys also big supporters and they come
19:55
Speaker 10: out to Wally's and Whimpy's night that Buffalo Wild Wings
19:58
Speaker 10: and supporters out there is gonna ask you we do
20:00
Speaker 10: because you do that once a month.
20:01
Speaker 3: Once the next one it's.
20:02
Speaker 10: Next Thursday night Beflow Wild Wings at the Nitro Marketplace
20:07
Speaker 10: off the Cross Lanes exit. And yeah, we're we always
20:10
Speaker 10: have a great time.
20:11
Speaker 3: Out there six to seven thirty six and lots of
20:14
Speaker 3: prizes and all kinds of good stuff out there. All right,
20:17
Speaker 3: So let's transition talk about yesterday got down in Texas
20:21
Speaker 3: and Metro News midday. We actually broadcast some of rich
20:24
Speaker 3: Rod's comments. We you know, you're doing live radio, man,
20:27
Speaker 3: you never know whether it's going to work out. It
20:28
Speaker 3: actually happened to work out perfectly that we were able
20:30
Speaker 3: to get Rich Rod's comments. Of course, Tony Careedi was
20:33
Speaker 3: on all of our shows yesterday. I know that that
20:35
Speaker 3: you were paying attention to it. Your takeaway from from
20:38
Speaker 3: the from the Big twelve press event and the return
20:40
Speaker 3: of rod Man.
20:41
Speaker 10: It's exciting. I'm with all the fans. I mean, I'm
20:44
Speaker 10: not a super homer and supporter of WVU. I'm not
20:47
Speaker 10: up there every weekend or anything like that. But I
20:50
Speaker 10: think it's an exciting era. I mean, Rich Rod was
20:54
Speaker 10: a lightning Rod for a lot of years, you know,
20:57
Speaker 10: because a lot of people didn't like the way that
20:58
Speaker 10: they left. But I think everybody he has kind of
21:01
Speaker 10: forgotten that, and you know, I think it's going to
21:03
Speaker 10: be exciting. He's going to be in a new Big twelve.
21:06
Speaker 10: I mean, there's sixteen teams that you know, just a
21:10
Speaker 10: few years ago, you couldn't have imagined that some of
21:12
Speaker 10: the opponents that are going to be on their schedule.
21:15
Speaker 10: So I know, one of the sources that I rely
21:18
Speaker 10: on for preseason information, Phil Steele. His college football preview
21:24
Speaker 10: has WVU ranked last in football, potentially because they lost
21:28
Speaker 10: a lot and there's seventy new players, it's really hard
21:31
Speaker 10: to gauge what's coming on. But they also expressed some
21:35
Speaker 10: excitement about Rich Rod and the players he's going to
21:38
Speaker 10: be bringing in the staff that he has, so you know,
21:41
Speaker 10: it's just going to be really fun to see how
21:44
Speaker 10: it shapes up.
21:45
Speaker 3: I agree talking to Jim Workman, and now I get
21:47
Speaker 3: to always just say, of Wally and Wempy's you're still
21:49
Speaker 3: with wallyan Wempyes, yes, But I also have to say,
21:52
Speaker 3: now executive director of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
21:56
Speaker 3: But Dave Allen showing five D Live brought to you
21:57
Speaker 3: impired by Bridge Valley offering custom to ten training to
22:00
Speaker 3: supply a skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company. Visit
22:03
Speaker 3: Bridge Valley dot E d U. And the thing about
22:06
Speaker 3: about rena coach Rod returning to Morgantown and we all remember,
22:10
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, he he he couldn't get anybody
22:13
Speaker 3: to buy him a cup of coffee there towards the end,
22:16
Speaker 3: and how he left and everything, and they still trashed
22:18
Speaker 3: his name, and every so often when there was problems
22:21
Speaker 3: with the program, you know, the mouth and enger fans
22:22
Speaker 3: would get, you know, we'd go back and forth and
22:25
Speaker 3: we need to bring Rod back, and people are like, heck, no,
22:27
Speaker 3: we don't need to bring Rod back, never again. But
22:30
Speaker 3: time heals all wounds and people. I think with the
22:34
Speaker 3: last couple of coaches in Morgantown and this happens in
22:37
Speaker 3: landscape all all over, I don't I just don't think that.
22:42
Speaker 3: And I talked about this on Midday yesterday. Neil Brown
22:45
Speaker 3: was a very very nice guy and I had a
22:47
Speaker 3: couple of interactions with them. Professional guy. Think he was
22:50
Speaker 3: probably in over his head. And Holgerson, I'm I'm just
22:54
Speaker 3: gonna leave that alone, okay. So and if you've ever
22:57
Speaker 3: had any conversations with him, you'll you'll know what I'm
23:00
Speaker 3: all right. But but I just don't know that they
23:02
Speaker 3: got WVU. And one of the things I love about
23:07
Speaker 3: WVU and Marshall, you know, got to get a plug
23:11
Speaker 3: in for the Alma mater, is that they're bringing in
23:13
Speaker 3: people now that had these programs that get it. Tony Gibson,
23:16
Speaker 3: the new Marshall football coach. He gets Marshall he was,
23:20
Speaker 3: of course coach WVU and he's a Boom county. And
23:23
Speaker 3: he gets Corny Jackson the basketball coach. He gets it
23:25
Speaker 3: because he played at Marshall. Rich Rod the same thing,
23:28
Speaker 3: and uh and and there and that there is an
23:31
Speaker 3: excitement about this program right now because I think a
23:35
Speaker 3: lot of Mountaineer fans are just saying, we got one
23:39
Speaker 3: of ours in here now.
23:40
Speaker 10: Well, it's a big thing that rich Rod talked about
23:42
Speaker 10: yesterday was building that culture and you really can't understand
23:46
Speaker 10: it unless you've been a part of it. So another
23:49
Speaker 10: point that people need to recognize is when rich Rod
23:53
Speaker 10: was there seventeen years ago, they were in the Big East.
23:56
Speaker 10: That was a conference that was kind of folding a
23:58
Speaker 10: little bit, and he was approaching the WVU administration about
24:04
Speaker 10: upgrading the facilities, which was a legit concern if you
24:08
Speaker 10: wanted to get to where they want to go. And
24:10
Speaker 10: while he's back now with fifty million dollars in improvements
24:14
Speaker 10: in facilities. So it's a whole new game for him
24:17
Speaker 10: and WVU right now. And I've heard people say, well,
24:20
Speaker 10: how's he going to relate to the modern player? It's
24:22
Speaker 10: not like he's been, you know, working at BUCkies. We
24:25
Speaker 10: had to reference the bucket. It's not like he's been
24:26
Speaker 10: he's been in he's been coaching Jacksonville State in Arizona,
24:29
Speaker 10: and he's been he's been around. It's not like he's
24:31
Speaker 10: been sitting on the couch for the last several years, right.
24:34
Speaker 10: And I think to some degree, as you kind of
24:36
Speaker 10: alluded to earlier, he's been humbled a little bit because
24:39
Speaker 10: I remember about ten twelve years ago when he was
24:42
Speaker 10: in between jobs. He was a caddying at the Greenboro Classic.
24:47
Speaker 10: And he not not because he had a great need to,
24:50
Speaker 10: you know, make a buck, but he was down there
24:53
Speaker 10: and I talked to him, he.
24:55
Speaker 3: Was he was great.
24:56
Speaker 11: Yeah, you know.
24:57
Speaker 10: So he's been at Michigan, of course, he's been at Arizona,
25:00
Speaker 10: he's been at Jacksonville State. I think he is personally
25:03
Speaker 10: ready for this challenge as well as WVU.
25:06
Speaker 3: We've had a text here it says, at the next
25:08
Speaker 3: two seasons aren't what everyone expected. How long till those
25:10
Speaker 3: same praisers start calling for rich Rod to be fired
25:13
Speaker 3: and it'll happen. That's a fair question.
25:15
Speaker 10: But you know, college football at that level is really
25:21
Speaker 10: transitional now, because you can unload I mean, marshall the
25:24
Speaker 10: same way. They had to fifty sixty guys new guys
25:28
Speaker 10: this year because twenty five to thirty of them went.
25:30
Speaker 3: With Charles, what's a number for WVU?
25:33
Speaker 2: Is it like?
25:33
Speaker 3: And he said it's about seventy seventy that's yeah. And
25:36
Speaker 3: the pressor he said about seventy new players.
25:39
Speaker 10: Which is a little concerning, of course, but when you
25:41
Speaker 10: also factor in that many of them did not participate
25:44
Speaker 10: in the spring drills are just coming in this summer.
25:48
Speaker 10: I mean, as he talked about yesterday, it's going to
25:51
Speaker 10: be a very important fall camp starting in you know,
25:54
Speaker 10: the end of July, beginning of August to evaluate these players.
25:58
Speaker 3: And this is not unique to WV. I mean every
26:00
Speaker 3: every college program. I mean every year it's like it's
26:05
Speaker 3: so and I'm a big a college sports guy. I
26:07
Speaker 3: know you are too, but it's so hard to get
26:10
Speaker 3: to get fired up because you don't know the players.
26:12
Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's much more than the pro sports.
26:15
Speaker 3: I mean, you know pro sports, you have a couple
26:17
Speaker 3: of free agents here are there. We talk about seventy
26:19
Speaker 3: new people, and it's probably going to be the same
26:21
Speaker 3: way next season for for universities around the around the nation.
26:25
Speaker 3: Probably not seventy next year, but you know, he said,
26:28
Speaker 3: probably it's going to be about twenty five to thirty
26:30
Speaker 3: at least an every good point. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
26:33
Speaker 3: and this is just where college athletics is right now.
26:35
Speaker 3: And then we can talk about that, you know, a
26:36
Speaker 3: whole other time with NIL and everything like that and this,
26:39
Speaker 3: and people are I think a lot of these coaches
26:41
Speaker 3: and administrators are having to make it up as they
26:44
Speaker 3: go because there is no there's no playbook, and it's
26:47
Speaker 3: the way for the first couple of years. It's been
26:49
Speaker 3: a wild wild West out there, Jim, and they've got
26:51
Speaker 3: to try to figure this thing out because it's not
26:54
Speaker 3: going away. I mean, it's here that you can't you don't.
26:57
Speaker 3: You don't give eighteen year nineteen year old kids a
26:59
Speaker 3: million bucks and suddenly take it away. NIL is not
27:01
Speaker 3: going anywhere. That's right, That's right.
27:03
Speaker 10: It's gonna be a fun time to to be there,
27:05
Speaker 10: to watch on TV, to listen on the radio, to
27:08
Speaker 10: cover West Virginia sports, even basketball. You know, every everything
27:13
Speaker 10: is new with basketball as well, So it's it's gonna
27:16
Speaker 10: be a fun time.
27:16
Speaker 3: In Morgan's own tech says rich Rod is a wonderful
27:19
Speaker 3: choice for a head football coach. I'm looking forward to
27:21
Speaker 3: the next five years. I want to go back to
27:23
Speaker 3: what the other texture said, though, I mean, everybody, everything's
27:27
Speaker 3: at a fever pitch right now. Everybody seems to be
27:29
Speaker 3: I mean I had a couple of texts to the
27:32
Speaker 3: Midday Show yesterday people that weren't happy about it, and
27:35
Speaker 3: you've heard it as well in your in your travels
27:37
Speaker 3: and your writings. Whenever people who said that they weren't
27:39
Speaker 3: happy about it, the majority of Mountain their fans, I
27:41
Speaker 3: think safe to say, are happy about it. But if
27:45
Speaker 3: you if you struggle, you know this season and this
27:47
Speaker 3: season could very well be a bit of a struggle
27:51
Speaker 3: for the Mountaineers. How long into like that Textra said,
27:56
Speaker 3: how long if that happens? And I hope it doesn't,
27:59
Speaker 3: but how but how long until people say, well, maybe
28:01
Speaker 3: we didn't do the right thing.
28:02
Speaker 10: Well, I think West Virginia is in a not in
28:05
Speaker 10: a position to just fire somebody and continue to pay them,
28:09
Speaker 10: you know, according to their contract, and bring somebody in
28:12
Speaker 10: just for the sake of having a new face. So
28:14
Speaker 10: I think you know it's they're not going to be
28:16
Speaker 10: at the level of an Ohio State or a Michigan
28:19
Speaker 10: or a usc where they can just I'm unhappy. Let's
28:23
Speaker 10: change keep paying the guy, you know, like an Alabama could,
28:26
Speaker 10: so he'll have a little longer leash, right, you know,
28:30
Speaker 10: he'll have at least two or three years. And I
28:33
Speaker 10: wouldn't expect them to make a change at least you know,
28:37
Speaker 10: he has four years under his belt.
28:39
Speaker 3: Well, I mean if it fall falls apart, yeah, we
28:41
Speaker 3: and we don't want to put a little you know,
28:43
Speaker 3: negative vibes out there. We're hoping that that's not what happens.
28:46
Speaker 3: Another thing I like, we'll close with this, that I
28:48
Speaker 3: really like too, is that he's brought a lot of
28:51
Speaker 3: familiar faces back into Morgantown and and a lot of
28:55
Speaker 3: I had we had joswiac on the show yesterday, who's
28:57
Speaker 3: one of my all time favorite humans there, I would
28:58
Speaker 3: have Brian Joswiak on the air every day to talk
29:00
Speaker 3: about something I don't know. But I got Joe's weak
29:03
Speaker 3: off the golf course yesterday to talk to me and
29:05
Speaker 3: Amanda on the show yesterday, and I haven't. And the
29:08
Speaker 3: big guy is always fired. He gets fired up going
29:10
Speaker 3: to Wendy's okay, I mean, but but he has got
29:12
Speaker 3: a fight. He was out with the Aaron Beasley's playing
29:14
Speaker 3: golf with it with Beasley yesterday and he was just
29:18
Speaker 3: I mean bouncing off the walls about you know, about
29:21
Speaker 3: about rich Rod coming back, and he said that he
29:24
Speaker 3: felt that a lot of the old Mountaineers may not
29:26
Speaker 3: have been respected as much under previous administrations. And uh,
29:31
Speaker 3: rich Rod wants to bring those guys back into the fold.
29:33
Speaker 3: He wants to bring already brought you know, some assistants
29:36
Speaker 3: that are going to be helping out, Pat White and
29:37
Speaker 3: others that are going to be there. So it's going
29:39
Speaker 3: to be an exciting, exciting time.
29:41
Speaker 10: Well, those type of connections has really helped West Virginia
29:45
Speaker 10: become more nationally known because when you have guys like
29:48
Speaker 10: Pat McAfee and Pac Man that have those national platforms
29:51
Speaker 10: talking about West Virginia football in the off season, that's
29:55
Speaker 10: going to help raise the profile of Mountaineers sports across
29:58
Speaker 10: the country.
29:58
Speaker 3: All Right, we'll have back on. Of course, as we
30:01
Speaker 3: get in it closer to football season. It cannot come
30:03
Speaker 3: soon enough. I'm with you, how how many quarterbacks do
30:06
Speaker 3: your Browns have now? Like twenty seven. They have four,
30:09
Speaker 3: so yeah, but do they have one?
30:12
Speaker 12: Right?
30:12
Speaker 3: Well, the old saying in the NFL was, if you
30:14
Speaker 3: have two quarterbacks, you don't have a quarterback.
30:16
Speaker 6: There you go.
30:17
Speaker 3: Jim Workman, the executive director of the Westernrginion Sports Writers
30:20
Speaker 3: Association and the guy behind Wally and Whimpy's, the state's
30:23
Speaker 3: premier print sports and online I said, print but also
30:26

34:09
Speaker 12: All right, I have my first assistant, Adam Petrie with
34:12
Speaker 12: me this morning.
34:12
Speaker 3: Okay, Adam, welcome to the show. Nice to meet you, sir,
34:15
Speaker 3: Nice to meet you to day. Thanks having Yeah, let
34:17
Speaker 3: me turn that microphone. I need you turn that microphone
34:19
Speaker 3: in front of you. There you go, perfect right there,
34:21
Speaker 3: right there, all right, A good host would have already
34:24
Speaker 3: set that up, you know, meaning me.
34:28
Speaker 13: So this.
34:30
Speaker 3: Story kind of broke and we've got a story post
34:32
Speaker 3: about WV Metronews dot com. A new trial dates been
34:35
Speaker 3: said in the Gavin Smith trial. He was convicted of
34:37
Speaker 3: killing four people and his family back in twenty twenty.
34:40
Speaker 3: Gifts the background on this case.
34:42
Speaker 12: You know, back in twenty twenty when this case originated,
34:46
Speaker 12: my office prepared for trial and there were two co defendants,
34:51
Speaker 12: one code defendant, took completely the other wound up going
34:55
Speaker 12: to trial. There were some issues with that. The Supreme
34:58
Speaker 12: Court overturned the verdict in that trial and has remanded
35:01
Speaker 12: that case for a new trial. And that's where mister
35:05
Speaker 12: Petrie and myself got involved.
35:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's aggurate, Dave.
35:10
Speaker 15: This case started, I believe, right after COVID started, and
35:15
Speaker 15: it went through the court system and it's finally made
35:16
Speaker 15: its way back to Circle Court here in Kendal County.
35:19
Speaker 3: And remind people the whole story here with that case.
35:24
Speaker 12: You know, I'm pretty limited in terms of factually what
35:26
Speaker 12: I'm able.
35:27
Speaker 3: Okay, sorry, well you just tell me what you're comfortable with.
35:29
Speaker 12: What I can tell you is basically what is already
35:31
Speaker 12: public knowledge, and that is the defendant, Gavin Smith, is
35:35
Speaker 12: alleged to have killed his mother, his step father, and
35:39
Speaker 12: his two siblings. That occurred in the Elkview area of
35:43
Speaker 12: Kannall County again back in twenty twenty and again you know,
35:48
Speaker 12: we go through the court process and no prosecutor ever
35:51
Speaker 12: wants to hear well, the Supreme Court has remained a
35:54
Speaker 12: case and you have to start all over. And so
35:58
Speaker 12: mister Petrick and I are just now really getting involved
36:01
Speaker 12: in this because he and I did not handle the case.
36:03
Speaker 12: Initially it was two prosecutors who no longer work at
36:05
Speaker 12: the office, and so now we are learning brand new
36:09
Speaker 12: what this case is about.
36:10
Speaker 3: And so what goes into that learning process for you,
36:13
Speaker 3: mister Petrie.
36:15
Speaker 15: Just getting involved in this case kind of having to
36:18
Speaker 15: start at ground zero. Obviously I was at the office
36:21
Speaker 15: from the case from its inception, but I didn't work
36:23
Speaker 15: on this case, so kind of getting into it as
36:25
Speaker 15: if it had just started, and start looking at whenness statements,
36:30
Speaker 15: looking at the files, reading transcripts, and familiarizing ourselves with
36:33
Speaker 15: the case and the law in this in particular.
36:35
Speaker 3: And this was a very high profile case because of
36:39
Speaker 3: how horrific it was.
36:40
Speaker 12: Prosecutor absolutely it is. It's a horrible situation. You know,
36:45
Speaker 12: when you have any sort of familial homicide, it there's
36:50
Speaker 12: no good outcome, you know, no matter what. This family
36:55
Speaker 12: has lost so much, so much, and that's the thing
37:00
Speaker 12: that we can never give them, give back to them.
37:02
Speaker 12: We can't bring their loved ones back, and we also
37:06
Speaker 12: can't let the behaviors of another loved one go unpunished.
37:12
Speaker 12: And so it puts the family in a very very
37:15
Speaker 12: difficult situation. My heart goes out to them to have
37:18
Speaker 12: to relive this all over again. But as mister Petrie said,
37:22
Speaker 12: we are, you know, diving in feet first. We've got
37:26
Speaker 12: a lot of work to do, and we've already begun
37:29
Speaker 12: that work and we're getting ready to, you know, hopefully
37:33
Speaker 12: secure a verdict that brings this families again some semblance
37:37
Speaker 12: of justice.
37:38
Speaker 3: So nine forty five at day Vallance showing five eighty

37:50
Speaker 3: Filters dot us because everyone deserves fresh air. Anytime you
37:53
Speaker 3: have a case that both of you know this that
37:58
Speaker 3: is so high profile because of the you know, the
38:02
Speaker 3: the as you said, anytime you're dealing with families, it's
38:05
Speaker 3: always a tragedy and at the end of the day,
38:07
Speaker 3: regardless of what happens, there're still family members that are
38:10
Speaker 3: not are not there anymore for Christmases and gathering so
38:13
Speaker 3: on and so forth. But as prosecutors, when you have
38:19
Speaker 3: a case like this that is so out there in
38:21
Speaker 3: the public and now we're in the world of social
38:23
Speaker 3: media where everybody weighs in on every news story and
38:25
Speaker 3: so on, or the personal pages they write their own stories, whatever,
38:29
Speaker 3: how much more difficult is a case like that? That is,
38:32
Speaker 3: I know you take every case in your office seriously,
38:34
Speaker 3: obviously in your entire office does. But how much more
38:36
Speaker 3: difficult is it when you have a case that is
38:40
Speaker 3: this high profile.
38:41
Speaker 12: It becomes difficult in the aspect of being able to
38:45
Speaker 12: pick a fresh jury. And it also becomes difficult because
38:51
Speaker 12: a lot of members of the public don't fully understand
38:54
Speaker 12: the court system and how it operates.
38:57
Speaker 3: And what we really do.
38:59
Speaker 12: And so I would urge people from the public, not
39:02
Speaker 12: just this case, but any case. If you don't know
39:05
Speaker 12: what we do, and you're out there you're criticizing or
39:09
Speaker 12: you're commending even the work that we do, please make
39:12
Speaker 12: sure you fully understand what that is. Come to court,
39:14
Speaker 12: watch us track cases, watch us have hearings, because it
39:18
Speaker 12: doesn't make it much more difficult when we have that
39:22
Speaker 12: uphill battle of you know, the public perception that we
39:26
Speaker 12: have to try to either tamper or maybe excel to.
39:32
Speaker 3: And judges face this as you well know, all the time,
39:35
Speaker 3: because you'll hear a sentencing that's happened, and there's guidelines.
39:41
Speaker 3: You know, you can't break the law. And I you know, judges,
39:44
Speaker 3: this happens to you all the time, you know, very
39:46
Speaker 3: similar situations. They're like, how did this guy or or
39:48
Speaker 3: girl only get this? Well, that's what the sentencing requirements are.
39:51
Speaker 11: To lass.
39:51
Speaker 3: You don't like it, change the law or talk to
39:53
Speaker 3: your legislators there. What's the time frame here on this
39:56
Speaker 3: as we move forward?
40:00
Speaker 12: We have a trial date on November seventeenth and a
40:04
Speaker 12: pre trial date of November sixth, so we've got a
40:07
Speaker 12: few months.
40:08
Speaker 3: Okay. We all have to keep us posted as best
40:10
Speaker 3: you can. And I do appreciate you coming in. As
40:13
Speaker 3: I said, we had the story posted about and I
40:15
Speaker 3: reached out to you last night kind of a not
40:17
Speaker 3: exactly last minute, but sort of to come in. And
40:20
Speaker 3: I appreciate you coming in. Anything else side of your office,
40:23
Speaker 3: away from this case you want to want to talk about.
40:25
Speaker 12: You know, we're working hard. We have a great group

Speaker 12: of people who are really ambitious, They really care about
40:32
Speaker 12: the work they're doing, and they really want to do

40:37
Speaker 12: in the right places who have that mindset is going
40:40
Speaker 12: to be the reason my office six seeds.

45:12
Speaker 19: Those are some hard questions I think that that need

45:18
Speaker 19: the guts of the YWCA, and you know I'm not
45:21

46:10
Speaker 19: was at my first event, I believe, and our goal after.
46:14
Speaker 3: That year was to grow.
46:15
Speaker 19: You know, hey, let's help more women, let's help more families,
46:19
Speaker 19: let's help more children get out of these difficult situations.
46:23
Speaker 19: And so immediately the whole committee was on board with that,
46:27
Speaker 19: including the YWCA. So growing was the only choice to
46:31
Speaker 19: help more people. And that's where we became larger and
46:35
Speaker 19: larger every year, one hundred, two hundred, three hundred people,
46:38
Speaker 19: four hundred five hundred women, and then eventually we had
46:41
Speaker 19: sixteen hundred women coming to our event at the Cultural Center.
46:45
Speaker 19: So it's a lot of economy revenue that we provided
46:49
Speaker 19: for the community. You know, the hotels were booked, the
46:52
Speaker 19: dresses were bought, the nails were done, the hair was done.
46:56
Speaker 19: The women that couldn't afford to come, they could volunteer
46:58
Speaker 19: with us and not have to buy that ticket. I
47:01
Speaker 19: have friends from out of state that saved their money
47:03
Speaker 19: every year to come to this event to support the event.
47:07
Speaker 19: Domestic balance touches everyone. It doesn't have a color profile,
47:12
Speaker 19: it doesn't have an economic profile. It hits every family.
47:17
Speaker 19: Everyone that is in West Virginia knows. It's a very
47:21
Speaker 19: prominent problem. And it was something that was swept under
47:24
Speaker 19: the rug, and we brought it out and we said, hey,
47:27
Speaker 19: we need help, we need support. And then that's when
47:29
Speaker 19: the tc Energies of the world and the Toyotas of
47:32
Speaker 19: the world, everyone came and helped us and supported us
47:35
Speaker 19: and helped us grow to where we were at the
47:36
Speaker 19: municipal Auditorium and to mention then the Colosseum. Those ladies
47:41
Speaker 19: there are so kind to us. They gave us so
47:43
Speaker 19: many extras. You know, they let us bring in food vendors,
47:46
Speaker 19: they let us do all the things to make more money.
47:49
Speaker 19: And you know, the Colosseum needs to be commended for
47:51
Speaker 19: all of their help these last seven eight years of
47:54
Speaker 19: allowing us to be in that Colisseum to raise money
47:56
Speaker 19: for domestic violence. So your answer is better than mind, Dave.
48:00
Speaker 19: I don't know why it's leaving. It's and you know
48:02
Speaker 19: it's well.
48:03
Speaker 3: I mean, you talked about the economy a little bit, Yeah,
48:05
Speaker 3: said that, you know that may have had something how
48:08
Speaker 3: was Do you know how the decision was arrived upon?
48:12
Speaker 19: I can't answer that question. I know that we were
48:14
Speaker 19: planning it up until March of this year. We were
48:17
Speaker 19: looking at possibly other venues to save some money. We
48:22
Speaker 19: were looking at you see, other things like that, and
48:25
Speaker 19: I was open minded to that because I didn't want
48:27
Speaker 19: this wonderful event to go away. And then probably the
48:32
Speaker 19: end of March, we had an email sent to all
48:34
Speaker 19: of us saying we will not be having Girls' Night
48:37
Speaker 19: out anymore.
48:39
Speaker 3: I mean like that came from the people in at
48:41
Speaker 3: y W, the leadership at y W. And by the way,
48:44
Speaker 3: I didn't want to appear I'm making this all one sided.
48:47
Speaker 3: If the leadership and the folks, and why that would
48:49
Speaker 3: you say you want to come on board or need
48:50
Speaker 3: to come on air? I should say and talk about
48:52
Speaker 3: they're more than welcome to you. At any given time.
48:55
Speaker 3: If you had to put a ballpark a ballpark, figure
48:58
Speaker 3: on how much money you were able to raise in
49:00
Speaker 3: that thirty years or so, how what would it be?
49:04
Speaker 19: Oh my goodness, I will tell you just off the cuff.
49:10
Speaker 19: Each event, especially at the municipal the coliseum, actually the
49:14
Speaker 19: Charleston Coliseum, we were raising between four and five hundred
49:19
Speaker 19: thousand a year, and that grew over the years. Of course,
49:23
Speaker 19: I would say our lifetime ten fifteen million at least
49:28
Speaker 19: incredible at least And you know that's including in kind donations,
49:31
Speaker 19: you know, all the kind restaurants donating food, all the
49:34
Speaker 19: distributors donating you know, beverages, Coca Cola, Red Bull, Budweiser,
49:40
Speaker 19: all the things. Mike Folio, you know, the Doug Scaffs
49:42
Speaker 19: of the world coming and helping and volunteering and getting
49:45
Speaker 19: ice and schlepping around in the heat. Everyone has been
49:49
Speaker 19: touched in this community with Girls' Night Out everyone.
49:52
Speaker 3: And so is there a possibility though that those volunteers
49:55
Speaker 3: like yourself and other people that you have smaller events.
49:58
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, I think that's.
49:59
Speaker 19: The vision of YW from what I'm seeing and and
50:03
Speaker 19: I've met with them about it. They want to start
50:06
Speaker 19: small again and go back to our roots. But it's
50:10
Speaker 19: kind of hard to put you know, closed Pandora's box.
50:14
Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't put the ketchup back in the jar
50:16
Speaker 3: or the bottle.
50:17
Speaker 19: As they say, yeah, yeah, yeah, we grew to where
50:20
Speaker 19: we were for a reason. It's it's kind of reminds
50:22
Speaker 19: me of you know, regatta. What if we started small
50:25
Speaker 19: again with regatta, and start small and rented out a
50:28
Speaker 19: little room for five hundred people for regatta. It's just
50:31
Speaker 19: it's just impossible to do such a magnitude of an
50:34
Speaker 19: event and put it back in a box.
50:36
Speaker 3: Well, it's unfortunate. And again I don't pretend to know
50:39
Speaker 3: all the things behind the scenes, and I would love
50:41
Speaker 3: to have the folks from the YWCA to come on
50:42
Speaker 3: the show to talk about it at any point. But
50:45
Speaker 3: it is unfortunate because it's one of those it's one
50:47
Speaker 3: of the Charleston events. I mean every year, you know,
50:50
Speaker 3: and I've been doing this show for five years and
50:52
Speaker 3: and so it's like every year, you know, you got Foma,
50:56
Speaker 3: the Dome, You've got Regatta. As you said, you've got
50:59
Speaker 3: to all these different events that are just and Girls'
51:02
Speaker 3: Night Out was right there as part of it.
51:04
Speaker 19: Oh yeah, it was a staple summer event for sure.
51:06
Speaker 19: You know, we planned it around the school season so
51:09
Speaker 19: the moms could come and attend and not be stressed out.
51:11
Speaker 19: And you know, we properly planned everything properly, and it
51:15
Speaker 19: was a party with a purpose. It never got out
51:17
Speaker 19: of control. It was always just a really good time
51:20
Speaker 19: for all the girls to get together, to bring their
51:23
Speaker 19: their grandmothers, their sisters, their aunts.
51:26
Speaker 8: You know.
51:26
Speaker 19: It was just a great event for women to have camaraderie,
51:30
Speaker 19: you know, to come together for a great benefit. And
51:32
Speaker 19: this benefit is needed in our area, especially being rule.
51:36
Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, let me get this in here. Vaccines
51:39
Speaker 3: are your best protect again severe disease from fluid COVID
51:41
Speaker 3: nineteen if you're sixty five. For older risk less, do
51:43
Speaker 3: more with the season's vaccines. Get started. Vaccines not GOV
51:46
Speaker 3: paid for, but they used to wornment with Health and
51:47
Speaker 3: Human Services, Sandy. As we close, I'm going to just
51:50
Speaker 3: give you an opportunity and mean miracles happen, you know,
51:53
Speaker 3: maybe something you know, because there's a lot I was
51:55
Speaker 3: reading a whole lot of chatter on social media and
51:58
Speaker 3: on and on television news. That's why I reached out
52:00
Speaker 3: to you last night about coming in to day. What
52:03
Speaker 3: would you say? And I'll give you the final seconds.
52:06
Speaker 3: I mean, just to thank people for the wonderful years
52:09
Speaker 3: or whatever.
52:10
Speaker 19: Thanking all the sponsors, all the ladies that bought tickets,
52:14
Speaker 19: all the gentlemen that bought the tickets for their ladies,
52:16
Speaker 19: all the tc. Energies into toyotas, all of the people
52:20
Speaker 19: that donated and were sponsors through the years, especially the team,
52:24
Speaker 19: the wonderful team at the WHITEWCA. We could not have
52:27
Speaker 19: done this over the years without them and the teamwork
52:30
Speaker 19: and the camaraderie and them working fifty sixty eighty hours
52:33
Speaker 19: a week, you know, without anyone knowing what they were doing.
52:37
Speaker 19: You know, everyone worked so hard at this and it
52:39
Speaker 19: was definitely a labor of love. Definitely a labor of love,
52:43
Speaker 19: and we appreciate everybody and Dave, thank you so much
52:45
Speaker 19: for being a huge supporting guests.
52:47
Speaker 3: Well hopefully you know again, I'm always one that wants
52:50
Speaker 3: to hold out hope.
52:51
Speaker 19: Yes, absolutely absolutely stay a little prayer tonight for Gino everybody.
52:55
Speaker 3: All right, I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot,
52:57
