- 0:07The New York Mets faced the Cincinnati Reds at Crosley Field for a Saturday afternoon game
- 0:11on July 21, 1962. This was the Mets' inaugural season and they were managed by Casey Stengel.
- 0:17In his 12 years with the Yankees, Casey only lost more than 62 games once. The Mets were
- 0:22halfway through the season and they already had 68 losses.
- 0:26The Reds had lost to the Yankees in the World Series in 1961 and were playing well in 1962.
- 0:31They entered this game with a 51-41 record but were 10 games back from the league leading
- 0:36Dodgers and Giants. They were managed by Fred Hutchinson in his fourth season in Cincinnati.
- 0:41This audio recording is from the New York Radio broadcast featuring an Alters Ralph Kiner,
- 0:45Bob Murphy and Lindsay Nelson.
- 0:49Right now the ace right-hander of the Cincinnati Reds, Bob Perkey, warming up and warming up
- 0:54for the New York Mets, the young right-hander from Washington, D.C., Craig Anderson. Right
- 1:00now would be a good time for you to check up on your supply of fine-cold rain gold.
- 1:06Rain gold extra dry. Yes, sir, put some rain gold on ice. It can add a lot to your enjoyment
- 1:13of the game. Now, here is a beer with a clean, clear taste, brisk and bright all the way
- 1:19through. Rain gold is beer as beer should taste. Dry tells you why. And say, right now
- 1:27would be a good time to light up a viceroys. Viceroy's not too strong, not too light. Viceroy's
- 1:35got the tasteless right. That's right.
- 1:40Right now Casey Stingle moving out to home plate to meet with Reggie Otero of Cincinnati
- 1:44and the three umpires. So here are the lineups and batting orders for today's game. For
- 1:52the visiting New York Mets, Richie Ashburn will be in center field leading off. Felix
- 1:58Bantilla will play short stuff and bat in the number two position. Gene Woodling in
- 2:02right field batting third. Frank Thomas in left field hitting cleanup. Monor Throneberry
- 2:09will be at first base hitting number five. Charlie Neal playing second base and batting
- 2:14sixth. Rod Keneal will be at third base hitting seventh. Chris Canazaro behind the plate batting
- 2:21eight. And on the mound and batting ninth for New York right hander Craig Anderson.
- 2:28Cincinnati will have Eddie Casco playing third, batting lead off. Don Blassing game
- 2:33will be at second base, batting in the number two position. Veta Pensson in center field
- 2:39hitting third. Jerry Lynch will be in left field and Lynch will be the cleanup hitter.
- 2:46Frank Robinson in right field batting fifth. Gordie Coleman will be at first base batting
- 2:52sixth. Johnny Edwards behind the plate hitting seventh. Leo Cardenas the shortstop will bat
- 3:00eighth. Pitching and batting ninth right hander Bob Perky. Now in just a few moments the Cincinnati
- 3:07Reds will be moving out to the playing field. And right now here's a word from Vice Roy
- 3:12Cigarettes. The last of the nights the score of three to old. The bases were loaded and
- 3:19wouldn't you know two men fans they missed by a mile then Casey stepped up to the plate
- 3:24with a smile. Now Casey smokes filters but knows it's true that even some filters are
- 3:29rough on you while other brands in the filter crowd are just like smoking a warmed over
- 3:34cloud. But Vice Roy tastes the way you'd like a filter cigarette to taste. Not too strong.
- 3:44Not too light. Vice Roy's got the taste that's right. That's right. Well Casey won the game
- 3:51with as long as Tomer yet the manager's daughter said. And the cigarette. Today they're a family
- 3:56with a girl and a boy and it all began with a vice Roy. That's right. So Casey wants you
- 4:01to know when you'll take all bets if you smoke all seven filters cigarettes you'll find some
- 4:06too strong. Some too light. But Vice Roy's got. The taste that's right. That's right.
- 4:12That's right. That's right. The umpires for today's game here in Cincinnati working the
- 4:22plate will be big Stan Landis at first base. Benny Smith and a third. Just the bag. Right
- 4:29now here are the reds taking the field. Just a moment we'll have the singing of our national
- 4:39anthem by Clyde Williams. Breeze blowing hard from left toward right the prevailing direction.
- 4:46You please see harmless appearing cumulus clouds dotting here and there on a hot summer
- 4:50day and right now ladies and gentlemen our national anthem.
- 5:20Yeah.
- 5:26Yeah.
- 5:30Yeah.
- 5:33Yeah.

- 6:32Yeah.
- 6:36Yeah.
- 6:40Yeah.
- 6:44Yeah.
- 6:48Now with the playing of our national anthem. Just about set for action here at Grodzley
- 6:54Field and other games. They have a real slugfest underway at Forbes Field today for Lando
- 7:00Sopeta and Tom Haller at Pomeran the third inning both of the bases empty. The Giants have
- 7:05been knocked out of the box and now lead the Pirates five to four while hitting in the top half of the
- 7:10third inning. Al McPheon has been knocked out of the box and Jack LaMabe has taken over for
- 7:16Danny Murthaus Pittsburgh Pirates. They had thirty seven thousand in Pittsburgh last night all the
- 7:21place will hold the biggest crowd in two years as the Giants grab the opener of that important
- 7:26series and knocked the Pirates three and a half games off the pace. The Dodgers beat the Cubs
- 7:31in the first half of the afternoon eight to two. The Giants winning last night to stay a game
- 7:36behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers. Billy O'Dell is pitching today for San Francisco
- 7:43the warmups in Chicago Don Drysdale the winningest pitcher in the major leagues going for the
- 7:48Dodgers against Dick Ellsworth of the Cubs. The Cardinals and Cole forty five will play a
- 7:53day night double header a cold quarter affair. Houston won the game last night Milwaukee
- 7:58Philadelphia after an inning and a half in the American League Washington won the Yankees one
- 8:03Rudolph against Terry White Sox and Red Sox no score at the end of one Bizarro against
- 8:08Conley Fisher against Bonacosky Baltimore at Minnesota Detroit at Kansas City tonight and
- 8:13Cleveland at Los Angeles tonight. That's the rundown of the action elsewhere and for the
- 8:18rundown of the action right here as we get set for the first pitch of the afternoon here is
- 8:23Ralph Kiner. OK Bob Bob Perkey pitching against Richie Asperin Perky 14 and three in the year
- 8:2993 and 84 lifetime and one and all against the New York Mets and the first pitch of the game
- 8:34filed off down the left field side for strike one Richie Asperin batting 294 six home runs
- 8:41and 23 runs batted in. This is Perky's 22nd appearance of the year and all of them have been
- 8:52as a starting pitcher. Big right hander from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania six foot two hundred
- 8:58and ninety nine pounds and the one strike pitch. Knuckleball inside and low ball one one ball one
- 9:04strike. Perky primarily a slider pitcher and a knuckleball pitcher. His two best pitches he
- 9:11does so good fastball not blazing fast as good knowledge is a tremendous competitor started
- 9:18by a Pittsburgh part organization. Here's the wind up and the one one pitch to Richie and this
- 9:23one's fouled straight back for strike two and Eddie Casco the third baseman now moving back to
- 9:30a fairly average position at third base he was playing in against Asperin defending against
- 9:35the but I feel straight away in center and right and the left fielder Jerry Lynch playing
- 9:42over by the left field line. It's Gordy Coleman at first base Don Blasen game at second the
- 9:47first stop Leo Cardenas the third baseman Eddie Casco. Here's the wind up in the one two pitch
- 9:52and knuckleball again fouled away the count will stay at one ball and two strikes in the
- 9:59outfield Jerry Lynch in left field. Beta Pinson in center and Frank Robinson the National
- 10:06League's most valuable player in nineteen sixty one in right field as Bob told you a beautiful
- 10:14day for baseball when going towards right field aiding the left handed batters again the one
- 10:19two pitch inside ball to three sixty six down the right field line three sixty and straight away
- 10:26right field a little bit closer there good hitting target three ninety just the shade towards
- 10:32right field in center three eighty three in left center and three twenty eight down the left
- 10:38field line. All storm runs hit by Cincinnati player hit by Ted Kuzuski in one season he hit
- 10:45forty nine. Now the two two pitch it's hit through the middle in the air coming on now as
- 10:50Beta Pinson he can't get to it a base it he takes it on the first bounce and the Mets now
- 10:55have the first base hit of the game. Richie Asperin has the lead off man and it brings up
- 10:59Felix Mantia. So Richie who was one for three in last night's game a game won by the Red
- 11:11Three to one fine pitching by both Joy J and Craig and should say Roger Craig and Felix
- 11:22Mantia stepping in Felix had one hit four times up in the opener of this four game series
- 11:27last night batting two sixty eight playing shortstop batting right handed and the first
- 11:35pitch is popped up in the infield Tom Blassen game at second base now moving back towards
- 11:41the grass after he moved in the wind taking the ball out and he made the catch when going
- 11:46fairly strongly in the right field could be a big factor in the game one out now on the
- 11:52batters Jean Woodley well Jean last night playing his first game officially in this park at
- 12:01two straight hits off Joy J and that was the first time that he had batted against J
- 12:06International League game and two for four for the night but he made two outstanding
- 12:11catches in the outfield to help Roger Craig keep the score down Jean batting at two thirty
- 12:20five one home run thirteen runs batted in and now time calls home plate umpire stay on land
- 12:29this is the first base finish meant the second base umpire Dusty Boggess throw the first base
- 12:42and back plenty of time now the first pitch to Woodley hit on the ground to the second
- 12:52baseman a chance for two they get the first one at second base over the first base in
- 12:56time a double play four to sixty three to retire the side in the inning for the Mets
- 13:04one no runs on one hit there were no errors and no one left the runner erased in the double
- 13:10play in the score at the end of the top half of the first the Mets nothing in the
- 13:14Cincinnati Reds coming to bat and now a word from Vice Royce cigarettes I have this band
- 13:22and it really swings that we have this singer who really sings we just finished playing
- 13:27for a nice bunch of folks when I discovered I was out of smoke someone handed me an
- 13:32unfiltered back too harsh for me I gave it back and builders they either taste strong
- 13:38or too thin them a cute little singer said where you been
- 13:46by Troy taste the way you'd like a filter cigarette to take not too strong not too
- 13:52light by Troy's guy that taste that's right that's right now the singer still with
- 13:59me but I got a new van it's round and it's gold and it's on my left hand that's right
- 14:04so now I know and I'll take all bets if you smoke all seven builder cigarettes you'll
- 14:10find some too strong some too light but by Troy's guy that taste that's right that's
- 14:16right that's right that's right that's right
- 14:26bottom half of the first inning and the Reds coming to bat for the first time they
- 14:30lead the Mets in the season series four to nothing winning last night's game three
- 14:35to one and the leadoff man against Greg Anderson will be Eddie Castor the third
- 14:40baseman Anderson with a record of three wins and nine losses for the year he has a
- 14:47lifetime major league record of seven and twelve and he has all in one against the
- 14:52Cincinnati Reds he's making his sixth start in twenty ninths appearance of the season
- 14:57he lost to the Reds on April twenty fourth seven to three worked one inning in that
- 15:03one and the first pitch of the game to Casco is down low ball one
- 15:16Greg Anderson from Washington DC six foot two two hundred and fifteen pounds a right
- 15:21hander and he comes back low again for ball to Casco batting two fifty six one oh run
- 15:27and sixteen runs battered in yet one hit last night and four times up it was a but
- 15:35batting from the right hand side where's glasses now the wind up in the two oh pitch
- 15:40this one's through their strike one call Mark Roomba third base Johnny Neal at
- 15:48the second man Tia Felix man Tia short and Rod Guineal at third catchers Chris
- 15:54Canazaro and he gives a sign for the two one pitch it's on the corner a slider for
- 16:00strike two two balls and two strikes to Eddie Casco leadoff man for the Reds no
- 16:05score in the game Frank Thomas playing left field Richie Asperin in center Richie made
- 16:11a couple of good plays last night and Jim Woodling in right there's the wind up in
- 16:17the game and he's down low for ball three full count now Casco leads off on deck
- 16:23batter Don Blasping game he'll be followed by a Vada Benson second day of a ten day
- 16:37trip all games to be played and the three to pitch misses low ball four so Craig
- 16:43Man puts him on by a lot and it brings up time watching him a left handed batter
- 16:57I'm betting two seventy one home run nineteen runs battered in one for three last
- 17:03night he also beat out a bun little fella originally started out in the St. Louis
- 17:12football organization as a famous father in law there's a throat of first base but
- 17:19Casco back by the name of Walker Cooper quick throw the first chasing Casco back
- 17:28Casco wearing tape and a patting on his left hand he has a bruise on that hand now
- 17:35the stretch position to look at first base and shake it ahead and to the play it's
- 17:40a right call the fastball through right on the inside corner there at crowds and
- 17:47field the scoreboard located in left center field indicates the batting averages of
- 17:51all the players big high scoreboard any ball off the scoreboard in place sort of
- 17:58like the scoreboard and right center field in Abbots field about the same size and
- 18:03of course this one located in left center instead of right center throw the first
- 18:07facing Casco back ballpark dimensions here fairly small not a one strike pitch and
- 18:19this one's inside a throw the first base by Canada's arrow but the runner back
- 18:23safely count now one ball one strike Chris with a good arm and he likes to throw
- 18:30the ball a national a great still mighty tight Dodgers leading by one game over the
- 18:37Giants Pittsburgh and losing to the Giants last night now back three and a half and
- 18:41third place there goes the runner and the pitches on the ground they'll have to go
- 18:46to first base Charlie Neal takes it throws the first base and moving over on the hit
- 18:50and run play Eddie Casco so by moving the man along Freddie Hutchison the manager
- 18:56the cardinal stays out of the double play and it brings up a defensive with a man
- 19:00in scoring position a debate about a two eighty nine seventeen home runs and fifty
- 19:05seven runs batted in last night a single and a run batted in one for four
- 19:13Craig Anderson into the stretch position was one out and the pitch defences the
- 19:21curve ball it's low inside ball one and one of the fastest runners in baseball so
- 19:48the infield short enough just to try to do to be able to make a play at first base
- 19:53there's a pitch back and this is a strike call Vincent check this swing with the
- 19:59pitch cut the inside corner one ball one strike
- 20:02last year Princeton loved the club and hitting with three forty three now the
- 20:18one one pitch inside and low ball two moving pincin out of the batter's box two
- 20:27balls and one strike every time pincin hits the home run here beta pincin that is
- 20:44they play show me the beta go home to one pitch inside again and it's ball three
- 20:53three balls and one strike the on deck batter is Jerry Lynch so Craig Anderson
- 20:59falling behind now in his life in a trouble with a runner at second base and
- 21:04one out got a good ladies day crowd on hand here for the single game in the
- 21:22game on Saturday double head of the mall coming your way in New York at one fifty
- 21:26five now the three one pitch inside in the dirt bouncing away from Canada zero but
- 21:32holding that second base Pascal and moving on down to first base on the second
- 21:37walk of the game issued by Craig Anderson here in the bottom half of the first
- 21:41made up in and coming to bat Jerry Lynch Jerry batting two ninety three with six
- 21:59home runs and thirty one runs batted in left handed batter last night's game one
- 22:07two-fifth ball three-four he too started in the Pittsburgh Pirate Organization
- 22:15there's the stretch position in the fish to Lynch inside down in the ground again
- 22:19and blocked by can a cell that time a curveball and can a cell decides to walk it
- 22:24back to the mound. Craig Anderson yet to give up a base it but walking to the first
- 22:30base again that he is faced here in the game. Lynch last year hit three fifteen for
- 22:40the National League champions but his real value coming mostly as a pinch hitter he
- 22:51actually Prince defendant for the Reds against the Cubs when he hit a two run home
- 22:55Bob Anderson in the eighth inning that Chicago on September twenty six now the
- 23:02pitch to Jerry Lynch inside ball two so now two old count after two walks and now
- 23:09Casey Stengel coming out to give the sign for left hander to warm up. Casey walking
- 23:14out of the dugout had to move out about fifteen or twenty feet so he could see the
- 23:19bullpen the Mets bullpen down the right field line and he's single with his left
- 23:24hander getting that Ken McKenzie should get up and warm up. Here's a two old pitch
- 23:29right through strike one fastball two balls and one strike. Mackenzie was up last
- 23:39night in the bullpen although Roger Craig puts the fine seven hit game he was a
- 23:45victim of a two run home run by Gordy Coleman Coleman Red Hot for the Cincinnati
- 23:51Reds. Next pitch lying the right field that they said Casco rounding the third base
- 23:56the throat of that goal there Casco will score moving over easily the third on the
- 24:00single by Jerry Lynch. Beta Benson Cincinnati Reds lead it one nothing now with
- 24:06one out in the bottom of the first inning. What as usual the walks proving to be
- 24:29detrimental to a pitcher and also the dirt of a manager. That's Frankie Frisch used
- 24:37to say oh those base on ball a man in and Frank Robinson now the batter runners at
- 24:42first and third infield playing back looking for the double play. Robinson hitting
- 24:47three thirty three. Fighting from the right hand side and the first pitch it out the
- 24:53left field this will score a run Thomas will catch it though he does there comes
- 24:57better than easily from third base throw knocked down by Camille after Camille
- 25:02slip but holding that first base Jerry Lynch it's to nothing in favor of the Reds
- 25:07and that run batted in for Frank Robinson on the sacrifice by the left field his
- 25:12seventy six of the year. Two outs now on the batter coming on Gordy Coleman big left
- 25:32handed hitting first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds he has nineteen home runs
- 25:36and forty nine runs batted in and the first pitch to him is a curveball hit high
- 25:44in the air the wind will take it a little bit back when that's far enough
- 25:48what he does there and he makes the catch to retire the side in the inning for the
- 25:53Reds two runs on only one hit there were no errors but two walks mixed in and one
- 26:00man left and the score at the end of one the Reds do the match nothing what I take
- 26:06a look at the scores in the national and American leg in a real slugfest as Bob
- 26:11told you earlier the Pittsburgh Pirates now have taken the lead over San Francisco
- 26:15at the end of three sixty five now pitching for the Giants to Miller and pitching
- 26:22for Pittsburgh LaMade the beta hit is twenty first in that game that came in the
- 26:27third with no one on and Tom Holler also had a home run the third inning with no
- 26:31one on all saying this plane at Chicago and Drysdale is the starting pitcher for
- 26:36the Dodgers he'll be pitching against Dick Ellsworth rock a home run in the
- 26:40bottom half of the first giving the Cubs a one nothing lead through one inning to
- 26:44play in a day night game the St. Louis Cardinals are scheduled against Houston
- 26:48and also in a night game Milwaukee scheduled against Philadelphia in the
- 26:53American League through three innings of play the Yankees in Washington tied up
- 26:57one to one the Yankees winning yesterday three to one on a home run by Mickey
- 27:01Mantle Whitey Ford picking up the win and they leave the American League by three
- 27:05and a half games Rudolph pitching for Washington and Ralph Jerry going for the
- 27:09Yankees Chicago the White Sox scoring two runs in the top of the third lead Boston
- 27:13to do nothing through two and a half for Zorro and Connolly the pitchers there
- 27:17Baltimore with one run in the first inning leading Minnesota one to nothing
- 27:21in the bottom half of the first Fisher and Bonacowski the starting pitcher
- 27:26Detroit scheduled at Kansas City and Cleveland at Los Angeles both under the
- 27:30lights right here at the two nothing games half of the second inning
- 27:36Cincinnati leading and Frank Thomas leading off for the Mets Frank batting for
- 27:41the first time scored the only run of the game for the Mets last night when he hit
- 27:44his sixteenth home run of the year he's hitting 294 and at 65 runs battered in
- 27:52and the first pitch by Bob Burkey is low ball one Thomas started to go then
- 27:57held off as the ball broke down below the knees
- 28:05Burkey and Thomas former teammates with the Pittsburgh Pirates
- 28:09now the right hander into the lineup and back to the plate and this one said in
- 28:16the air to left field chasing Lynch back it could go all the way it is on the
- 28:21screen a home run so Frank Thomas picked up a home run his second and two days
- 28:27and he had not hit a home run since July 4 so Frank now back in the home run
- 28:32grew Frank coming around third base now scoring and being congratulated by the
- 28:38next batter Mark from very in the score now two to one in favor since then
- 28:42as Thomas picks up the first run of the game for the Mets
- 28:51there's a high screen above the outfield wall in left field to protect the cars
- 28:57located in the parking area right behind the fence and any ball off of that screen
- 29:02is a home run sort of similar to the screen at Boston there's a pitch outside
- 29:07the Throneberry left handed better ball one the fence though not nearly as high as
- 29:11a fence in Boston this one about 12 feet high so it's a home run off of the screen
- 29:18and that ball hit upon the screen about five feet above the wall pitch back to
- 29:22Throneberry outside two balls no strike Marv betting 247 with four home runs and
- 29:2818 runs battered in
- 29:38our perky winding and dealing in and it's a strike as Throneberry swings and misses
- 29:43two balls and one strike
- 29:59perky back to the plate and this one has swung on and fouled away out of play
- 30:03they can't we'll go to two and two just a beautiful day for baseball right here in
- 30:19Cincinnati the second game of a four game series the double header tomorrow and
- 30:23then the Mets move on to Milwaukee to one game in favor Cincinnati
- 30:32as perky winds up and comes back to the plate and it's on the corner strike three
- 30:37call Throneberry watching now talks to home plate umpire staying landless and
- 30:42then moves away first strike out by Bob Perky that's out number one here in the
- 30:47top of the second and it brings up Charlie Neal
- 30:56Charlie batting 252 with seven home runs and 32 runs battered in
- 31:08right in the batter and the first pitch to Neal on attempt at a bump but going
- 31:13foul strike one Charlie trying to catch Eddie Casco the third baseman a little
- 31:19bit deeper third that's a matter to runs on one hit the Mets have one run on two
- 31:33hits they out hit the Reds last night eight to seven but lost the verdict three to
- 31:39one now the right hander into the wind up and back to the plate on the one strike
- 31:45pitch it's a slider that's outside and high one ball one strike Reds are in fifth
- 31:54place in the National League race they trail the Dodgers by 10 games but they
- 32:00feel with Gene Freese coming back to the lineup very shortly now that they will be
- 32:07in strong contention there's a pitch inside ball to two balls and one strike
- 32:12they also have the benefit of a better schedule better than the Dodgers and the
- 32:18Giants and also Pittsburgh the two one pitch by Perky inside again and it's
- 32:32three and one Dodgers Pittsburgh and San Francisco all playing the majority of
- 32:39their remaining games on the road Dodgers have proven to be a good road club San
- 32:46Francisco not too good although not bad they're just over 500 on the road which
- 32:53is enough if you can win at home and they can do that there's a three one pitch on
- 32:57the corner strike two three balls and two strikes San Francisco has lost only 14
- 33:03games in Candlestick Park so it's anybody's guess who will win the National
- 33:11League pen it and the three two pitch by Neil hit off of the ankle of Perky Perky
- 33:19over in a hurry picks it up towards the first base not in time that was a smash
- 33:24right through the box and Perky got a piece of his glove on it to halfway
- 33:29slow it down and it bounced off his leg to roll over towards third base about half
- 33:33way from the pitchers mound to third he also over picked it up but in throwing the
- 33:38first base his foot slid out a little bit he didn't get much on the ball and Neil
- 33:42beat the throw it's a base hit so now the Mets with three hits of Bob Perky a man
- 33:52at first base and one out in the bar batters Rod Koneal Rod betting 287 two for
- 34:08four last night batting from the right hand side three home runs and eleven runs
- 34:13battered in and the first pitch to Koneal is outside and low ball one dug out by
- 34:23the catch of John Edwards one ball no strike deal at first base Koneal the
- 34:45batter and a throw to first chasing Charlie back now Perky to the plate and

- 38:33Perky an all-star player this year and last comes back and the ball is hit right
- 38:37back at him a comebacker he picks it up so as to Coleman for outnumbered three to
- 38:42retire the side and the inning for the Mets one run on the home run by Frank
- 38:47Thomas they had three hits there were no errors two men were left in the score at
- 38:51the end of one and a half innings of play the Reds to the Mets one and now a word
- 38:57from Vice Roy cigarette I was at the races and the track was fast and the horses
- 39:04I back grand dad last I couldn't believe it but the gal next to me and just finished
- 39:10picking three out of three it was plain to see I could use the advice so I offered
- 39:15her a smoke just to break the ice she said I only smoke filters but some are so mild
- 39:20you can hardly taste them and I just smiled I said I sure I taste the way you'd like
- 39:28a filter cigarette to taste not too strong not too light nice Roy's got the taste
- 39:36that's right that's right that's right now when I go to the track I win I bring
- 39:42along my next to give so I want you to know and I'll take all bets if you smoke
- 39:49seven filters cigarettes you'll find some too strong some to light but I was got the
- 39:56taste that's right that's right that's right that's right
- 40:05bottom half of the second inning the two one game here in favor of Cincinnati and a
- 40:10quick look at the National League scores Pittsburgh 6 San Francisco 5 to 3 and a
- 40:14half Miller and LaMade the pitchers now Chicago won the Dodgers nothing to one and
- 40:20a half Drysdale and Ellsworth St. Louis schedule at Houston in the day night
- 40:25double header and Milwaukee Philadelphia and the American leg it's one to one at
- 40:30four as the Yankees battle of Washington Rudolph and Terry there the White Sox
- 40:36to Boston nothing at the end of the top of the third for Zara and Conley pitching
- 40:41one more one Minnesota nothing Fisher and Bonacoski the opposing pitchers and
- 40:46Detroit at Kansas City and Cleveland at Los Angeles at night now leading off for
- 40:53the Reds in the red half of the second John Edwards the catcher and the first
- 40:59pitch to John is a fastball on the outside corner strike one Edwards 0 for three
- 41:04last night batting 261 he was robbed of two base hits once by Gene Woodling in
- 41:10right field and once by Richie Ashburn in left center and he takes low for ball one
- 41:15one ball one strike Edwards with five home runs and 28 runs batted in catch by
- 41:26Woodling off Edwards one of the best that Gene has ever made now the one one pitch
- 41:31a leadoff swung on a missed strike to talking to Gene before this game and
- 41:36kidding him about his outfield defensive feats he says that's enough for that
- 41:40stop he says that running hasn't got it he made a great catch on Edwards going
- 41:46away from the field and running up the incline as an incline all the way around
- 41:50the outfield area to the fence Edwards takes a curve that bounces in the dirt
- 41:55ball to two balls and two strikes of course Gene has a few miles on him he's turned
- 42:05up at thirty nine at least he's had thirty nine birthday parties on the card
- 42:13born in 1922 to two pitch hit out the left field on the line Thomas starts
- 42:26him and stops quickly puts his glasses down and makes the catch that ball will
- 42:30hit so Edwards looking for his first hit in this series hitting the ball well but
- 42:34not coming up with any luck one out now the batter will be the shortstop Leo
- 42:40garden is to one game in favor since that he partners the two sixty six hitters with
- 42:50six home runs and twenty six runs batted in senators out in the top of the fifth
- 42:55score still one to one with New York first pitch to garden as a strike call
- 43:03now Anderson working quickly picks up the second strike on the outside corner
- 43:12garden is looking at both on to now
- 43:24there's a two strike pitch to the right-handed batter outside ball one one
- 43:30ball two strikes garden is a little fellow being played as a full hitter by
- 43:35the infield there's a ball hit right back in Anderson a good place he stopped
- 43:52it from going to center field taking the ball on one hop throw the first base in
- 43:56time out number two one to three that brings up Bob Perky
- 44:07perky a right-handed batter with good power he is at two home runs so far this
- 44:11year his average one thirty six though speaking of home runs the runs batted in
- 44:17Tommy Davis of the Dodgers had four runs batted in against the Cubs yesterday as
- 44:21the Dodgers one at eight to two and those four home runs giving him one hundred
- 44:26four the year the first man in Major League ball this year to break into the
- 44:30hundred mark area there's a first pitch to Perky a swing in a miss strike one
- 44:38major league record for RB eyes and one season held by Hack Wilson he had a hundred
- 44:43and ninety one year out of one strike pitch outside one ball one strike that was
- 44:52a year that accept the National League mark for home runs a fifty six one one
- 45:04pitch outside the Perky hundred and ninety runs batted in in one season that's
- 45:20almost unbelievable there's a swing and a five all hit to shuttle center field
- 45:26Richie Ashburn waiting makes the catch to retire the side three up three down the
- 45:31score at the end of two the reds to the Mets one well the Mets will be returning
- 45:38to the polar grounds on August 1st right after the second all-star game they'll be
- 45:43playing the Philadelphia Phillies in the night game on Wednesday August 1st and

- 46:53right along with the game as Bob Murphy takes you along the way come on in Bob
- 46:59all right Ralph thank you very much in the game at Yankee Stadium Roger Maras
- 47:04was just homered in the fifth inning with two men on his twenty fourth of the
- 47:10year to put the Yankees out in front over Washington four to one game had been
- 47:17tied one to one until Roger connected with two on board in the last half of the
- 47:22fifth inning Richie Ashburn up against Bob Perky and he starts him off with a
- 47:34curve that's taken low one ball and no strikes Richie single to center field
- 47:40his first time up in the game today the Mets of Out hit the Cincinnati Reds four
- 47:45to one Reds in front two to one Bob Perky fourteen wins and three losses on the
- 47:53year on the mound for Cincinnati Felix Mantilla is the undecped batter inside
- 47:59and low Richie laying off of it ball to to a nothing Freddie Hutchinson has a big
- 48:05three in his pitching staff of Bob Perky Joey J and Jim O'Toole and he's been
- 48:11scrambling trying to get that fourth starter and hoping that Jim Maloney can
- 48:15come through for him here's the pitch on the way a call strike on the inside
- 48:21corner only today the Cincinnati Reds have placed veteran softball Joe Nuxall on
- 48:26the active roster and to make room for Joe Nuxall Chico Rojas and infielder has
- 48:32been optioned to Dallas Fort Worth of the American Association pitching two and
- 48:39one a little bit of high it's ball three three and one and you can bet that the
- 48:44first time Nuxall plays a game here across the field in a red uniform you'll
- 48:48get quite a hand he was a big favorite here over the years he fits the ball game
- 48:53for Cincinnati when he was only 15 years old this has been an interesting year for
- 49:03Joe Nuxall he was in spring training in Miami with a Baltimore Orioles they cut
- 49:08call strike on the outside corner three and two the Los Angeles Angels picked
- 49:13Nuxall up and he pitched only very briefly for them and was handed his pink
- 49:17slip is released he made a deal for himself with any leash from the general
- 49:21manager of the San Diego Club and it's so well at San Diego which is a Cincinnati
- 49:26farm club that the Reds brought him up Nuxall at 1 9 and lost two in the
- 49:31Coast League with San Diego big left-hander despite all of his experience is still
- 49:38only 33 years old count three and two on Ashburn the pitch by Perky a fly ball at
- 49:45the left field standing up Pat is Jerry Lynch now he comes in a step and makes
- 49:50the catch for the out one away nobody on in the visiting third inning and the
- 49:56hitter now will be Felix Bantia Felix 0 for one hit a pop fly taken by second
- 50:02baseman blasting game his first time up and the Cincinnati club will have to
- 50:09pair still another man off their roster when Gene freeze becomes an active player
- 50:13probably on Monday Gene Woodling waiting on deck swing animus and a breaking
- 50:23ball strike one it's thrown by a perky a grunder hit down a third handled by Eddie
- 50:41Casco on the rim of the grass he throws the first in time to mend down
- 50:49the grass to ask nobody on that Gene Woodling up Gene Boston to a double play
- 51:08started by blasting game his first time up now blasting game moves over toward
- 51:13the hole on the right side of the infield and back to the rim of the on field
- 51:16grass against Gene Woodling and the shortstop Leo Cardin this pulls way
- 51:21over towards second base line drive in the air to right field coming in hard
- 51:26as Robinson he has to trap it plays it on a hop it's a base hit for Gene Woodling
- 51:31Robinson made a pretty good play on that to keep the ball from going under his
- 51:35glove and onto the wall and right field so that is a base at number five now off
- 51:44by perky the Reds were opportunists in the opening inning they received two walks
- 51:49from Craig Anderson and cash both of the walks in Casco and Benson drew walks
- 51:54both came into score Casco scored on the base hit by Jerry Lynch made a
- 52:01pence and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly hit by Frank Robinson the
- 52:06Mets scored their run on a home run a lying drive into the screen and left field
- 52:10by Frank Thomas so Frank is up now for the second time he has two home runs
- 52:15and two games this series now perky up in pitching position outside in the dirt
- 52:29can't be handled by Edwards goes all the way to the backstop and Woodling goes down
- 52:33a second and takes the turn while pitch charged to Bob perky now the New York
- 52:43Mets has a potential tying run Gene Woodling in scoring position at second
- 52:47two men down the hitter Frank Thomas Frank's home run was his 17th of the year
- 53:10he holds up on the swing and the sliders over one ball one strike in the
- 53:19boroughs double header Casey will be pitching South for Al Jackson in the
- 53:23first game Bob Moore had his pitch so well in relief over the last three weeks
- 53:28that he's being rewarded with a starting assignment here's the one one pitch he
- 53:37lets it go outside and low ball two two and one Monday will be an off day and
- 53:44the Mets will spend the off day in Milwaukee they'll be the only baseball team

- 54:32sometime when you're taking a summer vacation up in that area if you haven't
- 54:38been there be sure and go by inside and highest ball three three and two
- 54:47now we have a full count three and two on Frank Thomas Thomas in his home run
- 55:07into the teeth of the wind a lion drive that carried well through the wind and
- 55:11up against the screen pitching three and two he swings and messes the ball gets
- 55:17away from Edwards he's after it he throws the first in time getting Thomas
- 55:22Thomas struck out on a breaking ball it got away from Johnny Edwards but Edwards
- 55:27went back to get it in time to throw Thomas out on a pretty close play at first
- 55:31battery tired in the third inning no runs one hit no errors one left on and now at
- 55:41the end of two and a half innings the score the Reds two and the Mets one now
- 55:47listen to one of the nation's top vocalist with a musical message for you hi this

- 57:17inning number three Eddie Casco batting at two fifty six on the year Reggie Otero
- 57:24on the lines at third and Dick Sussler coaching at first Anderson over the head
- 57:30deals one outside and low one ball one strike now can't a zero setting up the
- 57:44target and the one one pitch ground ball hit the shortstop man Tia in and to his
- 57:49left he has it froze the first one down one away nobody on the number two man in
- 57:55the Cincinnati batting order now down blasting game the second baseman
- 58:00lasting game 0 for one was thrown out by Charlie Neal his first time up he's
- 58:03hitting a two seventy on the year Yankees with a four to one lead at the end
- 58:13of five in the stadium against Washington on a three run homer by Roger Maras
- 58:17number twenty four for Roger Anderson winds in comes he's pitch a swing
- 58:25and a miss and Craig really has the mustard on that one Craig Anderson right
- 58:33hander with youth and good science going for him Washington DC signed with the
- 58:38Cardinals out of Lehigh University a smash caught in the glove by Craig Anderson
- 58:45a hard shoulder high line drive and Craig reacting quickly got his glove up
- 58:50there took a look and right in the pocket of the glove was that little old white
- 58:54pearl to mend down to ask nobody on now here's Veta Benson Veta differently
- 59:05from Frank Robinson and Gordy Coleman who got off very slowly this year.
- 59:09Benson got off to a lightning fast start then went into a batting slot inside
- 59:16and lowest ball one.
- 59:19Benson was well over 300 for quite a while but has failed off now to two eighty nine
- 59:25he said 17 home runs and not 57 runs in inside and lowest ball to two and nothing
- 59:35really has the speed going for him he could run alongside a jackrabbit and tickle him.
- 59:53Greg Anderson to an on Veta Benson to ask nobody on next pitch by Craig a fast
- 59:59ball that's high ball three that one took off on Craig Anderson so he goes behind
- 1:00:04Veta Benson three and nothing beyond that batter and clean up hitter is Jerry Lynch
- 1:00:09the left fielder pitching three and all ball four he walked him on four pitches
- 1:00:19second time that Craig Anderson has walked Veta Benson and the third walk
- 1:00:24given up by Craig now Jerry Lynch comes up he's single to right field driving home
- 1:00:29Eddie Casco in the first inning that's hitting it two ninety three Jerry left
- 1:00:44hand better now Craig Anderson turns and just laughs the ball over to Throneberry
- 1:00:51at first Veta Benson of course with that wonderful running speed of his is always
- 1:00:57a threat to go and a hard throw to first this time is not in time Frank Robinson
- 1:01:03timing his swing in the on deck circle last thing game hit a hard line drive that
- 1:01:09Craig Anderson three is love up and cut shoulder high for the second out ball one
- 1:01:14it's outside reds with their win in the opener of the series last night are now
- 1:01:28playing 10 games over the 500 mark they've gone five innings in Pittsburgh with
- 1:01:37the Bucks leading the Giants six to five they have a real pair six brawl going in
- 1:01:44that one either starter lasted very long Billy Odell or Al McBean for the first he
- 1:01:53almost got him Veta Benson came back in a hard at first base and almost slid off the base
- 1:02:03now Benson asking for time as though he might have heard his leg a little bit
- 1:02:27now the throw on the first not in time Anderson up in pitching position there goes
- 1:02:40Benson a high fly at the left field backing up goes Rod Coneal in the short
- 1:02:45left the wind carrying it away from him and Rod catches up with it right on the
- 1:02:48end the rim of the grass and left field ball appeared at first as though it might
- 1:02:54carry a little bit deeper and the wind started sweeping it over that wind is
- 1:02:58going from left to right and Coneal caught the ball on the edge of the outfield
- 1:03:02grass side retired in the third no runs no hits no errors one left on so three innings

- 1:04:32front of Washington four to two Washington had a five game winning streak
- 1:04:39scissors in the game last night here's the pitch on the way a high fly well hit
- 1:04:45the right center field Robinson going up the hill he can't get it it's gone for
- 1:04:50a home run to tie the game Marth Rogenberry tying up the ball game with a
- 1:05:00prodigious crowd to right center field offering the right center field wire fence

- 1:11:32course last year a defending year for the Reds was a big win for O'Toole
- 1:11:37a big one for Joey J and a real good one for Bob Perky
- 1:11:52two and two on Chris can of zero two outs nobody on the two two pitch
- 1:11:58checks wing router down the first baseline up with a discordy Coleman he'll
- 1:12:03make the play himself to retire the side that's retired in the fourth inning one
- 1:12:08run one hit no errors and none left on now at the end of three and a half here
- 1:12:16across the field of score the Mets two and the Reds two Mr. Ralph I didn't talk
- 1:12:23to New York today so I don't know how the weather is back home but I do know out
- 1:12:27here in this part of the country in the right land is somewhat of a sizzler
- 1:12:30boy is a real woman right here Bob but whether you're in Cincinnati or New
- 1:12:35York you know what the people are doing don't you well chances are they're
- 1:12:39enjoying a frosty glass or two of rain gold extra dry because rain gold takes
- 1:12:45the edge off your thirst in a hurry you know when it comes to refreshment rain
- 1:12:50gold is in a class by itself it's a quicker quencher because it's extra dry
- 1:12:55yes sir those two little words extra dry tell you that rain gold is proved the
- 1:13:01long slow costlier way for a taste that's brisket bright and clean clear through
- 1:13:07so if you haven't already done it wouldn't this be a good time to open up or
- 1:13:12order up a nice gold bottle or can of rain gold extra dry your first taste will
- 1:13:19be a million say my bear is rain gold the dry bear I think argue has a lot of
- 1:13:28confidence in this when he puts a line in there such as a quicker quencher but
- 1:13:35that's exactly what it is at Forbes field the Giants got a run in the top half of
- 1:13:55the sixth inning and that's not tied up Giants six and the Pirate six after
- 1:13:59the second inning Frank Robinson up against Craig Anderson and the pitchers
- 1:14:06taking ball one Cubs lead the Dodgers on a home run by Lou Brock one to nothing
- 1:14:13at the end of three there in the seventh in Yankee stadium New York in front of
- 1:14:20Washington four to two swinging a mess in a curve in the count one ball one strike
- 1:14:26and a half and the Dodgers are in the fourth inning off Dick Ellsworth and
- 1:14:42they now have gone in front of the Chicago Cubs three to one Dodgers three in
- 1:14:47the Cubs one at the end of three and a half one and one on Frank Robinson
- 1:14:57pitch by Craig Anderson bounding ball it towards short Cadeo trying to cut it
- 1:15:01off can't man Tia throws the first wide of the bag.
- 1:15:04It will be an error charged to man Tia on the wide throw at first base that
- 1:15:18full Thronebury off the bag play became a tough one for man Tia when Rod
- 1:15:21Caniel going to his left trying to cut it off failed to reach it and moved in
- 1:15:26front of man Tia but Felix handled it then through but through wide so the
- 1:15:33Reds have a runner in Frank Robinson in the batter now is Gordy Coleman
- 1:15:38Coleman flag to write his first time up he's been red hot now Craig Anderson
- 1:15:48off the stretch in comes his pitch swinging a miss drank one ball pops out of
- 1:15:52Canada zero Smith but no advance the unduck batter as Johnny Edwards the
- 1:16:11catcher we're in the last half of the fourth inning with a game tied up two
- 1:16:15to two a throw to first not in time Cincinnati scored two in the first
- 1:16:20inning catching in on two walks with a timely hit and sacrifice fly the
- 1:16:25best coming from behind have tied the game on home runs by Frank Thomas and
- 1:16:31Marvin Thronebury.
- 1:16:35It's the Coleman hit hard on the ground a second Neil up throws the man Tia
- 1:16:39there's one back to Thronebury double play hard grounder but hit right out
- 1:16:44Charlie Neal and Neil whirling as he came up with the ball headed on the way to
- 1:16:48the end Tia in a split second two outs nobody on in the bottom half of the
- 1:16:55fourth inning good thinking fastball thrown by Craig Anderson paying off is
- 1:17:00against a timely ground ball now the hitter is Johnny Edwards he lined out to
- 1:17:05Frank Thomas and left field in the second inning home half of the fourth
- 1:17:15inning game tied to two this is a single afternoon game with a double header
- 1:17:21tomorrow call strike on the outside corner
- 1:17:33tonight games and a day game in Milwaukee then five games in three days in
- 1:17:37St. Louis change up by Craig Anderson misses one ball and one strike to
- 1:17:42Johnny Edwards Edwards came up to really give the Cincinnati Reds a big lift
- 1:17:48last year he's a young ball player left hand hitter fine defensive performer and
- 1:17:53the Reds feel they have their catching problem solid for a long time with him
- 1:17:57hit hard it hits the first base back goes over Thronebury's head and down the
- 1:18:01right field line for an extra base hit Edwards will go into second base with
- 1:18:05the double a double to write for Johnny Edwards he had a hard grounder that
- 1:18:15hit the cushion at first base and when it hit the base it took a high hop and
- 1:18:19what over Thronebury said it on down the line for a double that is only the
- 1:18:36second hit given up by Craig Anderson at the ball on hit the base Thronebury
- 1:18:40would have been in front of it to cover it for an out now the batter is the
- 1:18:51shortstop Leo Cardenas batting right handed we pause now for station
- 1:18:57identification this is WGY's connectivity where Monday you will hear the 22nd

- 1:19:36no play and it's one ball one strike books are out of the sixth inning without
- 1:19:48scoring six innings complete in Forbes field now Giants six and the Parrots six
- 1:19:54game in Chicago the Dodgers lead the Cubs three to one at the end of three and
- 1:20:00a half innings right here the count one and one on Leo Cardenas pitch by Craig

- 1:21:55again
- 1:22:14Greg Anderson coming out to try and start things off against Bob Perky in the
- 1:22:22top of the fifth inning
- 1:22:32that's our in Cincinnati for the second time this year they'll have one more
- 1:22:35trip here after this four game series Cincinnati comes into the polo grounds
- 1:22:41for five games on the next home stand that's over at the knees for a call
- 1:22:46strike reds will be in for that big weekend series of five games on August
- 1:22:53third fourth and fifth second time up for Craig Anderson he was thrown out by
- 1:22:59Bob Perky his first time up now the pitch ground ball it tore the whole
- 1:23:05card and is flashing to his right makes the long throw it's wide of the bag
- 1:23:09grabbed by Gordy Coleman and Craig Anderson is on that'll be a base hit for
- 1:23:15Craig Anderson on the ground or deep in the hole is shortstop and it's based at
- 1:23:19number seven off Bob Perky
- 1:23:23Minnesota twins currently five and a half games out of first have
- 1:23:49scored four on the home third inning to go in front of the Baltimore Orioles
- 1:23:53four to one at the end of three twins beat the birds on baddies 10 putting
- 1:23:57home run last night now Richie Ashburn up way inside Richie had to jump to get
- 1:24:03out of the way of that one one ball in those strikes white socks lead the red
- 1:24:10socks two to nothing after five and a half in Fenway Park with Juan Pizarro
- 1:24:14dueling against six foot eight inch Jean Conley
- 1:24:25Ashburn one for two in the game Casco in closer third he's around a bunch
- 1:24:30bumps down the first baseline and it is a foul ball it is a foul ball and now
- 1:24:37the argument is on cookie lava Jettler and Richie Ashburn thought both thought it
- 1:24:42was a fair ball Stan Landis and Benny Smith trying to get together on it now
- 1:24:48and what's it going to be Ashburn but of the ball long down the first baseline
- 1:24:53and as the first baseman Gordy Coleman came up and tried to handle these
- 1:24:58juggled it around for a moment losing any chance he might have had for a play on
- 1:25:02Craig Anderson and it appears to Stan Landis had called it one way Benny Smith
- 1:25:06the other Ashburn is standing on first base right now and here comes Freddie
- 1:25:11Hutchinson at first Benny Smith called it a foul ball he was then overruled by the
- 1:25:19umpire and chief of the game big Stan Landis and now Landis is talking to
- 1:25:23Freddie Hutchinson near home plate it'll be a base hit for Richie Ashburn
- 1:25:34Mets will have runners on first and second nobody out and this argument isn't
- 1:25:39over as yet by a long shot Freddie Hutchinson is talking to Stan Landis
- 1:25:46near home Benny Smith the first base umpire had called the ball foul Stan Landis
- 1:25:57had overruled him and called it a fair ball and it will stand up as a fair ball
- 1:26:00and a base hit for Ashburn so it goes as a base hit for Richie Ashburn on the
- 1:26:16bunt down the first baseland as Coleman had trouble in fielding and Richie beat
- 1:26:20him to the bag and after the argument is over it is ruled a base hit for Ashburn
- 1:26:25one umpire saw it as a foul ball one is a fair ball but it was the plate umpire
- 1:26:30Stan Landis who called it a fair ball now Felix Mantilla is hitting runners on
- 1:26:46first and second nobody out they scored a hit the eighth hit of the game for the
- 1:26:50New York Mets and now the Reds are in close looking for the bunt by Mantilla

- 1:27:03top of the fifth inning Perky off the stretch delivers Mantilla around to
- 1:27:08the bunt takes a pass one ball and no strike

- 1:27:47man Tia made the play work with Gordy Coleman halfway up toward a home plate
- 1:27:53against the bunt Felix deliberately swung away and tried to hit a ground ball
- 1:27:57by the first baseman Gordy Coleman Coleman made a good play and getting a
- 1:28:01glove on it and knocking it partially down then he got to his feet one after
- 1:28:05it picked it up tried to get to the back ahead of man Tia he was stumbling
- 1:28:09and falling trying to get back on his feet and could not beat man Tia to
- 1:28:13the base the bases are loaded they sit for a man Tia nobody out and Gene
- 1:28:19Woodling coming up bases loaded on three infield hit nobody out and Gene
- 1:28:32Woodling batting against Bob Perky that's now have nine hits off Perky
- 1:28:36Craig Anderson the lead runner on third Richie Ashburn on second Felix
- 1:28:41Bantilla on first the wind up by Perky here's the pitch curve is outside
- 1:28:47one ball and no strike Frank Thomas on Deccan and Marv Throneberry
- 1:28:52Brett has the infield a double play depth she did around toward right
- 1:29:05figuring Woodling to pull the infield rather deep and also around a right
- 1:29:09up goes the leg down comes the arm breaking ball outside two balls and
- 1:29:14no strikes on Gene Woodling now Gene checking with Sally Hemison the
- 1:29:19coaching line is the third to see if he has the green line on two and oh
- 1:29:25Greg Anderson started the inning off with an infield hit to deep shortstop
- 1:29:29Ashburn then but Bunnard long down the first baseline for a bunt single on a
- 1:29:35disputed play and man Tia got an infield hit swinging a miss and a high
- 1:29:41hard one two and one Frank Thomas standing in the undecided game tied
- 1:30:02to two met with their best opportunity of the afternoon basis loaded nobody
- 1:30:07out here's the pitch by Perky and it's a fly ball in the air to left center
- 1:30:11field Craig Anderson tagging up Lynch makes the catch in left center here
- 1:30:15comes Craig Anderson he'll come in to score and the Mets go out in front
- 1:30:19three to two warm up action in the bullpen now for Cincinnati they have
- 1:30:45brought Ted Wills warming up now the Mets have runners on first and second
- 1:30:50one man down one run is in Mets have gone in front three to two Cincinnati
- 1:30:57tallied twice in the first inning on two walks of base hit in the sacrifice
- 1:31:01fly Thomas Homer in the second throwing very homer in the fourth to tie it up
- 1:31:06the Mets now have gone in front ball one Richie Ashburn on second Felix
- 1:31:19man Tia on first with one man out they depend some deep and swung way over
- 1:31:26the left center against Frank Thomas Leo Cardenas the shortstop a double
- 1:31:31play depth but over toward the hole against Frank as they play him to pull
- 1:31:36now Perky into the set position delivers hammered foul on the ground down the
- 1:31:41third baseline one ball went straight one and one the cat now on Frank Thomas
- 1:32:11three infield hits in a row loaded the bases against Bob Perky
- 1:32:15Woodling driving in the tie breaking run with a sacrifice fly to left center
- 1:32:19field the 1 1 pitch to Thomas and he bends this one in there for a call
- 1:32:24strike one ball and two strikes Frank in his 16th homerun of the year last
- 1:32:30night and hit number 17 in the second inning today
- 1:32:34Marth Rohnberry awaiting the bat next
- 1:32:40Rohnberry hit a high fly that went over the fence and right center at the
- 1:32:46360 foot mark to tie the game in the fourth inning

- 2:15:43swing in the middle of the knuckleball strike two
- 2:15:48john edwards the catcher
- 2:15:50not use the big glove and catching the knuckleball about perky it's not as
- 2:15:55main pitch uses a slider
- 2:15:58and other pitches
- 2:16:00equally as well and also as much
- 2:16:04to strike out now and marth
- 2:16:08joe christopher at second base frank thomas at first
- 2:16:12and the pitch back is it to shallow right field coming on now robison in the hurry
- 2:16:17you'll have to hurry he is there though and he makes the catch
- 2:16:21and the way you run as we turn to second and first base
- 2:16:24with two and down that'll bring up
- 2:16:28charlie neal
- 2:16:33between vey the pinston and frank robison
- 2:16:37in center right a lot of territory is covered by those two fellows they can
- 2:16:41really fly in the outfield
- 2:16:44they close the gap in a real big hurry
- 2:16:50vinson
- 2:16:54probably the fastest man in the national league although you get some bets there
- 2:16:58but he can really go
- 2:17:04imagine you have to say that really davis give him a pretty fair race davis at one
- 2:17:08time
- 2:17:10was that it is being a a little big
- 2:17:13runner but he switched over to
- 2:17:16baseball
- 2:17:24to have now runners at first and second still in the batter charlie neal
- 2:17:29charlie was one hit three times up
- 2:17:32time running second base
- 2:17:34and the first pitch to charlie a check in the swing it'll cost him a strike as he
- 2:17:37files it off to the right
- 2:17:39on one
- 2:18:07and back to neal big swing in a missed right to you're going for a high slider
- 2:18:18and perky now with two outs
- 2:18:21along way towards his third
- 2:18:27the red stick over the lead in the fifth inning on a two run homerun by vader
- 2:18:31pinston
- 2:18:33that's how the game at that point three to two
- 2:18:38by a flavor
- 2:18:40or two three
- 2:18:44but he was a two strike red
- 2:18:47down low in the dirt the ball bouncing about a foot away from ebbards and the
- 2:18:50runners hold one ball to strike

- 2:21:52but here the hot sea
- 2:21:54bottom half of the eighth inning in the first batter takes first strike call
- 2:21:58leading off for since then
- 2:22:01big gordy colman
- 2:22:04or three game in the night he's favorite in the next pitch is a change up its high
- 2:22:08ball one one ball one strike

- 2:22:20Yankees by winning now lead
- 2:22:22by four over the angels
- 2:22:25next pitch to call me low ball to two balls in one strike
- 2:22:35giant out in the top of the tenth inning
- 2:22:38and it's done larson coming into the pitch
- 2:22:41to the pirates in the bottom half of the tenth that game tied up at six six
- 2:22:44face pitching for pitch for now
- 2:22:47and it to one pitch to call me bounced on the ground the over to his right he
- 2:22:51can't get to it it goes on through into center field on the ground
- 2:22:55and gordy colman picks up a base it is first of the game he is now one for four
- 2:23:01and the reds now in the runner first no one out on the batter johnny edwards
- 2:23:11seventh hit off kreg anison looking for a complete game
- 2:23:15he trails right now for the three
- 2:23:22and Joe gaince and in the run for colman
- 2:23:26the first baseman Joe gaince very fast man who one time
- 2:23:33was the fastest man on the squad for the since net of all crop
- 2:23:41john ever to left and a better
- 2:23:43in the batter's box rocketing looking for the button at third base in on top of
- 2:23:46the batter
- 2:23:49and the first pitch to edwards bounce down the first base from very as a shot at
- 2:23:53it takes a touch his first base he caught the ball about a step away moving on down
- 2:23:57to second base on the swing
- 2:24:00Joe gaince
- 2:24:02one out now in the batter's leo cardinist
- 2:24:18leo cardinist with a walk
- 2:24:20fly ball the center and a grounder back to the pitchers man over to
- 2:24:26Joe nucks out now back in throwing along with
- 2:24:30jim old to on the bullpen for the red
- 2:24:37one out of runner at second base a score four to three in favor of since the netting
- 2:24:43and the first pitch to the right in the batter
- 2:24:46swung on a missed like water sweeping curve that
- 2:24:50was missed by at least a foot it was outside the strike zone
- 2:25:01next batter scheduled up to picture bob perky so the action in the bullpen
- 2:25:06indicating they could go for more
- 2:25:11there's a curve bouncing in the dirt getting away from cana zero moving over
- 2:25:14to the dugout cana zero but a hurry gets there just in time to keep it from
- 2:25:18going in
- 2:25:20and moving over to third base
- 2:25:22on the wild bit Joe gain
- 2:25:35man at third base now in the infield will have to be moved in
- 2:25:40red lead four three at the bottom half of the eighth inning
- 2:25:45one out now in infield now being pulled in
- 2:25:56and cardinal will have a shot
- 2:25:58but the kind of one ball and one strike
- 2:26:09and the pitch back is it out the center field deep the center field of the score
- 2:26:13one at least dash from back on the incline and he takes the ball right up
- 2:26:17near the wall along out driving in the fifth run for the sister that are reds
- 2:26:22in the game and the score now five to three all the wild pitch is contributing
- 2:26:26factors to giving the sister that are reds another run and they have a two run
- 2:26:32edge with Bob Perkey now coming up the bat well one thing for sure throughout the
- 2:26:47year in the Mets victories and losses
- 2:26:51contributing factors to some of the losses coming from wild pitches and past
- 2:26:56ball seems to me have seen more of those this year than you would ordinarily see
- 2:27:03in the short season so far
- 2:27:17ok now Bob Perkey the batter two out to the first pitch to Bob file off the end
- 2:27:21of that first strike one
- 2:27:35perky betting from the right hand side is all for three in the game and he files
- 2:27:40another off the end of the bat strike two both of the balls right off of the end
- 2:27:45of the bat spinning off to the right side to strike out as Craig Anderson works in
- 2:27:51the mound looking ahead to the ninth inning for the Mets it'll be Rod
- 2:27:58Caniel Chris can a zero and the pitcher Craig Anderson scheduled up so the Mets
- 2:28:04will have their seventh eighth and ninth batters coming up in the batting order
- 2:28:09Oh Doc Casey single could change around there's a pitch outside to Perky ball one
- 2:28:14two strikes
- 2:28:23now Dave sister up and throwing a right hander for the Cincinnati Reds
- 2:28:28pitch back to Perky's outside two balls and two strikes
- 2:28:33that Joe Knuxall
- 2:28:35and Dave sister warming up in the pen
- 2:28:41five three game in favor of the Ryan Landers
- 2:28:46now the two two pitch by Anderson called strike three
- 2:28:50so Perky goes down in the strikeout number four in the game for Anderson to
- 2:28:54retire the side
- 2:28:56in the inning
- 2:29:01the Reds pick up one more run
- 2:29:04on only one hit
- 2:29:06there were no errors
- 2:29:08a wild pitch setting up the run
- 2:29:10and no one left and the score at the end of eight complaints
- 2:29:14Cincinnati Reds five the New York Mets three
- 2:29:19there'll be plenty of baseball action coming your way in a in August
- 2:29:23Mets returning home against Philadelphia
- 2:29:26for a night game on Wednesday night August 1st and then they'll play a day game

- 2:29:33on Thursday
- 2:29:35August the second
- 2:29:37then the Mets will take on the
- 2:29:39Cincinnati Reds in their first series against them in the pull of ground and
- 2:29:43quite some time

- 2:29:52baseball coming your way in three convenient locations for you to purchase
- 2:29:56tickets right at the pull of ground seven days a week at the Vance Reservation
- 2:29:59window

- 2:30:38alright Ralph can arrive can you let's come around a step into the batters box
- 2:30:41for the New York Metro in the top of the ninth can you let's slide the right
- 2:30:45slide the center and ground it out to first place
- 2:30:50as the Cincinnati Reds
- 2:30:52have five runs on seven hits and no errors in the Mets have three runs on
- 2:30:56eleven hits and two errors
- 2:30:59both starting pitchers have come all the way
- 2:31:08now all the warm-up action in the bullpen of the Cincinnati Reds has stopped
- 2:31:12as Perky goes into the wind up in the pitches in there for a call strike to
- 2:31:15ride Keneal
- 2:31:19Ed Boucher has come out to the on-deck circle
- 2:31:23for the Mets
- 2:31:25and a prospective pinch hitter for Chris Canisaro who is due up next
- 2:31:31Perky again with a wind up in the pitch it is Bunny foul
- 2:31:35backing out of play as
- 2:31:38Rod Keneal tried to bun it down the third baseline instead it went way back foul so it
- 2:31:42strikes two and out of Keneal
- 2:31:50last night in similar circumstances Choo Choo Coleman was sent up as a pinch hitter
- 2:31:54Rod Keneal in the top of the night from the Mets trailing by two runs
- 2:31:59that pitch is inside for Ball close pitch it's one and two
- 2:32:11wind blowing out to right field at Crosley Field in Cincinnati
- 2:32:17as Perky looks in for a sign from catcher Johnny Edwards
- 2:32:26as it goes into the wind up and the pitch is tight to Rod Keneal
- 2:32:31it's two and two
- 2:32:38again Perky looks in for a sign shakes off one has the one he wants now the wind
- 2:32:49up and the pitch is on the way swung on and pulled foul on the ground
- 2:32:52so the count holds at two two
- 2:32:59in the American League this afternoon the New York Yankees defeated the
- 2:33:09Washington Senators 4 to 3 and the Chicago White Sox shut out the Boston
- 2:33:13Red Sox 5 nothing Minnesota 27 the Baltimore Orioles 4 at the end of
- 2:33:205 here's a 2-2 pitch to Keneal and it's tight the count is 4 at 3 and 2 now
- 2:33:26to the first man up for the Mets in the top half of the ninth inning so we'll
- 2:33:39have a payout pitch from Bob Perky to Rod Keneal it's on the way it's tidy
- 2:33:43walk the ball for that is the first walk given up in this ballgame by Bob
- 2:33:51Perky who is struck out only two and that will bring up now Ed Boucher batting
- 2:33:57for Chris Camisaro at Boucher is a left hand batter recently recalled from
- 2:34:02Syracuse one game at Syracuse he had three home runs in one game and a total
- 2:34:08of six during his tenure there Boucher represents potential tying run at the
- 2:34:15plate for the New York Mets batting here in the top half of the ninth inning
- 2:34:20Jim Hickman has come out now swinging about as a perspective pinch hitter for
- 2:34:24pitcher Craig Anderson do up next it's taboo she is outside for ball
- 2:34:37perky goes to the rosin bag coming back in now takes off the glove rubs up the
- 2:34:41ball he is under the stretch now and the pitch is in there for Carl strike
- 2:35:11one and one the counter Ed Boucher at the plate there's a pitch low and away it
- 2:35:24is ball two two and one and again there is action in the bullpen for the Cincinnati
- 2:35:35Resid started this inning everybody stopped and went back to the bench but
- 2:35:40now they're up and throwing once again in earnest it is Bill Henry the left
- 2:35:46hander down there working now in the bullpen for the Cincinnati Reds along
- 2:35:49with Jim Brosnan Brosnan and Henry they get a lot of work in the course of a
- 2:35:53season there's a pitch outside to Boucher it is three and oh not Ed Boucher
- 2:35:58there is action also in the bullpen of the New York Mets Ken McKenzie is up
- 2:36:02and throwing and Bob Miller is up and throwing double barrel action and both
- 2:36:07bullpens at carsly feeling Cincinnati Boucher looking down to Salahim as the
- 2:36:11coach at third doesn't have the sign clearly himself back out of the batter's
- 2:36:15box to be sure to find out what he is doing on three and oh he asked him us
- 2:36:19to run through the repertoire again and he does there's nobody out for the
- 2:36:23Mets batting in the top half of the ninth inning Jim Hickman kneeling in the
- 2:36:28on-deck circle Marty Keoh is the first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds here's
- 2:36:38a swing and a foul ball as Ed Boucher took a rip at three and oh and fouled it
- 2:36:41back under the screen it's check it he was three and one it is not three and
- 2:36:46two took a rip at three one and it's not three balls and two strikes it's since
- 2:36:56Perky again with the rosin bag Keoh is not trying to hold Rod
- 2:37:02Kineal on it first base defensively the Reds have a two run lead
- 2:37:09Perky is up into the stretch position he's running on three two and here is a
- 2:37:14ground ball a second base passing game up with it makes the play over the first
- 2:37:17base to Keoh but by running on the pitch Kineal is able to pull up safely at
- 2:37:22second so there's one man up Kineal is at second base and Craig Anderson is
- 2:37:30being removed now for pinch hitter Jim Hickman
- 2:37:34Jim Hickman has a season's batting average of 266 including seven home runs
- 2:37:56the Reds lead here by a score of five three with a match batting in the top of
- 2:38:00the night against the right hand bat and out third baseman Eddie Casco moved over
- 2:38:04towards the line to protect against the possibility of an extra base hit here's
- 2:38:07the pitch low went away for ball one
- 2:38:11Richie Ashburn is due up next for the New York Mets
- 2:38:29Perky has a sign into the stretch as Kineal leads off the bag at second base
- 2:38:34and here's a pitch to Hickman it is high for ball two it's two and oh Hickman
- 2:38:45steps out to look down to the sign man now and the pitch is swung on and as a
- 2:39:08line drive to right Frank Robertson is there Kineal tags up at third tags up
- 2:39:13at second and does not go he draws the throw but then goes back to second so
- 2:39:17they're two men out on a runner at second as Robinson moved in to take the
- 2:39:21line drive off to better Hickman and he'll tag through the throat is not going
- 2:39:25Richie Ashburn is coming up so for the New York Mets it is up to Ashburn here
- 2:39:32in the top half of the ninth inning Cincinnati Reds 5 and the New York Mets
- 2:39:483 again Perky is into the set position the pitch is low in there for a call
- 2:39:57strike getting in there for a call strike the Richie Ashburn
- 2:40:06Perky again works on the ball we'll be on the air tomorrow afternoon at 1.55 p.m.
- 2:40:12New York time with a double header between the Cincinnati Reds and the New
- 2:40:15York Mets
- 2:40:18you'll take these lead at second the pitch to Ashburn is in there for a call
- 2:40:27strike to Felix man's here kneeling in the on deck circle
- 2:40:35Ashburn out of the batters box comes back in now
- 2:40:49action is stopped in the Cincinnati bullpen as they look on now the action on
- 2:40:56the field it's high and away one ball and two strikes to Ashburn that's been
- 2:41:06Perky to the Rosenberg Perky the starting pitcher he's come all the way he is
- 2:41:10looking for his 15th victory of the season here this afternoon against only
- 2:41:13three losses
- 2:41:17jazz the pirates have completed 10 innings with no score in the extra innings
- 2:41:24field time swinging a foul ball off the bat of Ashburn so it is still 6 6
- 2:41:33giant 6 in the power at 6 going to the top ever the 11th in Pittsburgh
- 2:41:39one ball and two strikes to Ashburn with two men out
- 2:41:57Perky checks and deals it's just way outside and it's two to breaking ball way out there
- 2:42:11Ashburn backs out of the batters box after spikes and gets set to come back in
- 2:42:18Perky working a little bit around the rubber out there and set now up on the
- 2:42:23rubber looking in to get a sign into the stretch position and the two to fix
- 2:42:29strong enough to come out of the right side mighty Keo takes it makes the play
- 2:42:32on it says that it's great faith in the ballgame is over Richie Ashburn has
- 2:42:37grounded out the mighty Keo at first base to end the ballgame as the reds have
- 2:42:42won it five to three in the top half of the ninth inning New York Mets are out
- 2:42:46with no runs on no hits no errors and one man left we'll be back in a moment
- 2:42:51with a final summary and totals but right now the final score of the ballgame
- 2:42:54is the Cincinnati Reds five and the New York Mets three and now an all-time
- 2:43:00great song sung by an all-time great singer
- 2:43:04this is Helen from the like put some new words to an old song there are lots of
