- 0:03Speaker 1: I love the idea of being bleeped. It sounds so chic,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hi gay not that. No, no, no, we've beaten that
- 0:15Speaker 1: joke to death. It must stop. Likes that's better. Hello,
- 0:21Speaker 1: my fellow trans is um, yeah, I I feel like that.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I love Meg's daughter. She's amazing and also this new
- 0:28Speaker 1: season of Hacks like very fun to watch her. You know. No, no, no,
- 0:32Speaker 1: we are not talking about any media because peeling back
- 0:36Speaker 1: the curtain a little bit on the real lives of
- 0:39Speaker 1: myself and Ms Frangela Toronto Angela, we are spending them
- 0:45Speaker 1: on apart frants in New York. I'm still in Los Angeles,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and you know, it's pride and we should be closer
- 0:52Speaker 1: than ever. So we decided that, you know, we wanted
- 0:55Speaker 1: to spend a little time together catching up over zoom
- 0:59Speaker 1: and figured like, why not record it and make content
- 1:03Speaker 1: out of it since that is what we've done with
- 1:06Speaker 1: our entire relationship. Well, you know, obviously we protect a
- 1:09Speaker 1: lot of our friendship as well, but like, this is
- 1:11Speaker 1: a moment where we're like, as a gift to the virgins,
- 1:15Speaker 1: we want to bestow on you because it's a pride gift.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And we talked about like what this could look like,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and we mutually agreed. Even though I violated the agreement immediately,
- 1:25Speaker 1: we mutually agreed that this would be a non news discussion.
- 1:29Speaker 1: This is a key, Okay, this is we are just
- 1:34Speaker 1: like two sisters catching up talking about our lives in
- 1:38Speaker 1: a way that is very different from the other podcast
- 1:41Speaker 1: in which we usually catch up and talk about our lives. Yeah, exactly. Well,
- 1:49Speaker 1: the thing about having a key is, UM, you have
- 1:51Speaker 1: to like go out and do stuff so you can
- 1:54Speaker 1: later talk about it. And that's going to be really
- 1:58Speaker 1: a bit of it. Make it. I didn't say it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I wasn't gonna be the one to say it, but
- 2:02Speaker 1: you hope that you it was implied because it wasn't fled.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It wasn't fling. But like I, thankfully, thankfully, I've had
- 2:08Speaker 1: a very eventful week emotionally saying saying I And we're
- 2:12Speaker 1: also in UM. This is usually the time when I
- 2:15Speaker 1: would be in therapy. So I'm going to use this
- 2:18Speaker 1: as an excuse to um, you know, pour out personally
- 2:21Speaker 1: details for thousands of people to listen. Yes, I'm happy
- 2:25Speaker 1: to be your therapist. This is a lovely update in
- 2:28Speaker 1: our relationship. Can we talk about the power of adderall
- 2:31Speaker 1: because so I'm trying to find a psychiatrist because like
- 2:35Speaker 1: I've been feeling very unfocused. I'm working on a book
- 2:38Speaker 1: right now, and I need an adderall prescription. Hopefully none
- 2:42Speaker 1: of my potential psychiatrists are listening to this podcast, and
- 2:46Speaker 1: we'll know that. I've been getting m P and France
- 2:51Speaker 1: to give me uh samples, a sample sample, And the
- 2:56Speaker 1: other day I slammed an adderall. And when I tell you,
- 3:01Speaker 1: I have never felt I mean obviously like I've used
- 3:04Speaker 1: adderall before. I by vans like everything, but I forgot
- 3:08Speaker 1: just the power of like when you have something you
- 3:11Speaker 1: need to get done, taking an adderall and just like
- 3:16Speaker 1: sitting down and just fucking blowing through it and knowing
- 3:20Speaker 1: the whole time that you were a genius. Genius. No
- 3:22Speaker 1: one in the world is more creatively talented than I was.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I was like, right, I was writing a couple of
- 3:28Speaker 1: chapters of the book I'm working on, and as I
- 3:30Speaker 1: was writing, I was like speaking it and like typing
- 3:33Speaker 1: the words. That's like a good process for me. And
- 3:37Speaker 1: when I would finish a chapter, I would like read
- 3:39Speaker 1: it all back and I'd be like, oh my god,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you are fucking Joan Didian, you are jk rowling like
- 3:47Speaker 1: you are. It isn't it amazing when you use adderall
- 3:50Speaker 1: for it's like defined purpose as opposed to, you know,
- 3:53Speaker 1: recreationally like snorting it at parties. Well, the first time,
- 3:57Speaker 1: the first time I ever did adderall was also the
- 3:59Speaker 1: first I ever did cocaine, which you chicely hate. I
- 4:04Speaker 1: hate cocaine, But the first time I ever did both
- 4:06Speaker 1: of them. I was in college and there was this
- 4:09Speaker 1: kid I went to school with who did have an
- 4:12Speaker 1: overdose our first semester of college. He survived, but one
- 4:15Speaker 1: night he just like came over to my dorm room.
- 4:18Speaker 1: We lived across the hall from each other. It was like,
- 4:20Speaker 1: do you want to do cocaine? And I was like, okay,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I've never done it before. And so we did a
- 4:27Speaker 1: bunch of lines of cocaine and mixed with adderall, and
- 4:30Speaker 1: then he put on these ruby slipper platform shoes that
- 4:34Speaker 1: he had and we just walked around the block that
- 4:37Speaker 1: our dorm was on for like six hours. Oh my god,
- 4:43Speaker 1: that is honestly, that makes me nervous. I I I
- 4:46Speaker 1: don't even know the first time I took adderall. It
- 4:48Speaker 1: was actually my prescription adderall, so I don't have like
- 4:51Speaker 1: a kind of crazy story, but I'm trying to think
- 4:54Speaker 1: up the first time I did cocaine, I did feel
- 4:56Speaker 1: like my heart was going to explode, which I also
- 4:59Speaker 1: the summer Out for Local original recipe existed when it
- 5:05Speaker 1: was when it was like before before they literally had
- 5:08Speaker 1: to change the formula because it was getting people like
- 5:11Speaker 1: too drunk into hype. My friends and I used to
- 5:14Speaker 1: like slam to four locals into an eight ball of
- 5:18Speaker 1: cocaine just to like go out or just like hang
- 5:22Speaker 1: out and like talk. And you know when you do that,
- 5:24Speaker 1: like that cocaine talk where you're like, oh my god,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I love you. See, we are the best friends in
- 5:30Speaker 1: the world. We're gonna be friends until our nine You
- 5:34Speaker 1: are my sister Molly talk. But also a little coke talk.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I guess it's it's fast talk. It's fast talking. You're
- 5:41Speaker 1: just like exchanging ideas very fear ferociously, like sitting in
- 5:45Speaker 1: someone's bedroom lit by a single like lamp and just
- 5:49Speaker 1: talking about like rolling in the deep which would just
- 5:53Speaker 1: come out um and talking about it for like eight hours.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I think the first time I ever did coke was
- 5:59Speaker 1: at the Diamond Tor shoe and they used to do
- 6:01Speaker 1: this amazing plub kid party that I can't remember the name. Yes,
- 6:05Speaker 1: pretty ugly. That was, like, I mean, this is back
- 6:08Speaker 1: when I really was I did count myself amongst a
- 6:11Speaker 1: class of men who date men um and that really
- 6:15Speaker 1: it really was like a fucking men party, but they
- 6:17Speaker 1: were at least like clubs. That was also when I
- 6:20Speaker 1: counted myself as a class of men. Yes, not multile
- 6:24Speaker 1: not multi level marketing schemes, but mm um yeah, but
- 6:29Speaker 1: I I I think I remember really loving that party
- 6:32Speaker 1: because you know, we got to turn looks and like that.
- 6:34Speaker 1: The looks were like really really good. But I think
- 6:37Speaker 1: the venue is no longer called the Diamond Horseshoe. It's
- 6:39Speaker 1: called like the Samsung Galaxy Arena or something stupid like
- 6:44Speaker 1: the Yeah, every iconic venue is slowly going to be
- 6:50Speaker 1: turned into you know, cryptocurrency dot com or whatever. Like
- 6:53Speaker 1: every single venue is getting like you know, they get
- 6:56Speaker 1: bought by a corporation with a really ugly name that
- 7:00Speaker 1: you don't want to have to say all the time
- 7:01Speaker 1: when you say meet me at the zok doc you
- 7:04Speaker 1: know bar or whatever. I mean, that's why nightlife has
- 7:06Speaker 1: changed so much, because like At the time when I
- 7:09Speaker 1: was working in nightlife and was throwing parties, it was
- 7:12Speaker 1: a time when there were a lot of venues and
- 7:14Speaker 1: there were all these d i y spaces that you
- 7:17Speaker 1: could rent for a night if you like had you know,
- 7:20Speaker 1: a couple of thousand dollars and you could throw like
- 7:23Speaker 1: a disgusting you know, queer rave at. And now like
- 7:28Speaker 1: if you want to throw parties on that scale, like
- 7:30Speaker 1: they have to be a level of like corpora tized. Yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and exactly it's and people getting paid, like like club
- 7:38Speaker 1: kids like submitting W two's to get paid. And let
- 7:41Speaker 1: me tell you, getting club kids to submit W two's,
- 7:45Speaker 1: I can tell you from experience impossible. Getting a drag
- 7:48Speaker 1: queen to fill out one single form. You might as
- 7:51Speaker 1: well like she might as well be dead. Like it's
- 7:53Speaker 1: it's not going to happen for you, Um, but that
- 7:55Speaker 1: is it really does. That's something that really sucks about nightlife,
- 7:58Speaker 1: the gentrification of nightlife, the kind of collapse of financial
- 8:03Speaker 1: infrastructure and nightlife is like in order to have like
- 8:06Speaker 1: a really successful party, it has to either cater to
- 8:10Speaker 1: white men or charge you know, thirty five dollars to enter.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And it's and that sucks because like night let people
- 8:18Speaker 1: in night life deserve to make a living. This deserves
- 8:20Speaker 1: to be a viable job, and everyone gets should be
- 8:23Speaker 1: paid their due um, except for like the scammers and
- 8:26Speaker 1: the abusers, of which in nightlife there are many um.
- 8:30Speaker 1: But like I I just I don't know. It makes
- 8:32Speaker 1: me depressed sometimes. Yeah, it really does come down to
- 8:36Speaker 1: like who has the ability to fund space? And I
- 8:45Speaker 1: guess at the time when I was throwing parties, it
- 8:49Speaker 1: was just like a little easier to make that happen.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But also when I think about it, like the people
- 8:54Speaker 1: who were like renting venues and like did it because
- 8:58Speaker 1: they had some kind of top at all, or like
- 9:01Speaker 1: some kind of hustle. Because there weren't a lot of
- 9:03Speaker 1: like permanent venues. There was the spectrum, which you know,
- 9:06Speaker 1: like r I P went through, went through so many iterations.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Actually I was gonna say, I said rest in peace,
- 9:11Speaker 1: but it's really more rest in chaos like that that
- 9:14Speaker 1: unless you're doing it at a really big scale or
- 9:17Speaker 1: like has some kind of like backers or whatever, it's
- 9:19Speaker 1: really hard to make money and night I mean trying
- 9:21Speaker 1: to do gorgeous, gorgeous this party in l A, which
- 9:24Speaker 1: is by the way, on the tenth at the Resident
- 9:26Speaker 1: in downtown Los Angeles, you can get tickets, you know
- 9:30Speaker 1: if you just check out my social Like this party,
- 9:33Speaker 1: it involves so much planning from the four of us, UM, DJ,
- 9:36Speaker 1: Louis La la Omar and myself, and yet like we
- 9:40Speaker 1: are barely breaking even because we want to pay talent
- 9:44Speaker 1: and we want to pay hosts, like everyone wants to
- 9:46Speaker 1: be paid, And I fucking hate parties that don't pay people,
- 9:50Speaker 1: Like there are still, especially in West Hollywood, parties that
- 9:53Speaker 1: are like literally not paying hosts, being like you get
- 9:57Speaker 1: to drink tickets and your name on a poster and
- 9:59Speaker 1: that's that. And it's like it's like that is that's gross.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That's gross, I know, And that hasn't changed since I
- 10:06Speaker 1: was working a nightlife and I started, like I started
- 10:09Speaker 1: throwing parties ten years ago. Yeah, I love the Poppy
- 10:13Speaker 1: Juice model because I think when I hosted like a
- 10:15Speaker 1: few prides ago, they paid me I think like three
- 10:18Speaker 1: hundred dollars, which is like a lot for a host
- 10:22Speaker 1: in my opinion, But and also like they emailed me
- 10:24Speaker 1: and they were like, you know, you don't have any responsibilities,
- 10:27Speaker 1: like here's the poster assets, but like you don't have
- 10:29Speaker 1: to like bring twenty people. We just want you to
- 10:32Speaker 1: have fun, Like your job is to show up and
- 10:35Speaker 1: have fun, and like you know, like bringing people thing.
- 10:38Speaker 1: The first party I ever hosted, we used to get
- 10:41Speaker 1: paid per head of people scam scan. This is an
- 10:46Speaker 1: m l M MLM and MLM Lally, there were nights
- 10:52Speaker 1: when I like, I only brought to people and you know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: so I would make like like or what I where
- 11:00Speaker 1: it was. I remember one nay I hosted this Susanne
- 11:02Speaker 1: barsh party and I was there for literally forty five minutes,
- 11:06Speaker 1: and then I like went to her. I was like
- 11:08Speaker 1: because I had another party that I had to work
- 11:10Speaker 1: that night, and I was like, hey, babe, like I
- 11:12Speaker 1: have to go, and she was like, oh hold on,
- 11:14Speaker 1: let me let me write you a check. And then
- 11:16Speaker 1: she had her assistant in the middle of the dance sport.
- 11:18Speaker 1: She wrote me a check on her assistance back and
- 11:21Speaker 1: gave it to me, And I made I made more
- 11:24Speaker 1: in like forty five minutes of being that party that
- 11:26Speaker 1: I did like in a week at my full time
- 11:28Speaker 1: office job. That is iconic. That is like I love
- 11:32Speaker 1: Susanne bar so much. Um that reminds me of the
- 11:34Speaker 1: SNL sketch Checks, you know with Sandra and Oh my God,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and it's written by Bowen and Julio. Is one of
- 11:42Speaker 1: the funniest SNL sketches of all times. Like Checks, Well,
- 11:46Speaker 1: Susanne barsh is very they never speak of this again.
- 11:49Speaker 1: She said she still pays everyone by check. She has
- 11:52Speaker 1: an a o L email address. Of course, she lives
- 11:55Speaker 1: at the Chelsea Hotel. Like that is the only person
- 11:58Speaker 1: to this day to live the Chelsea Hotel because it
- 12:01Speaker 1: used to be like an artist residency where a lot
- 12:03Speaker 1: of different kind of long types of people like maple
- 12:06Speaker 1: Thorpe and Um Patty Smith. I actually UM had like
- 12:12Speaker 1: an affair with someone who by affair, I mean like
- 12:16Speaker 1: I picked someone up at Nowhere Bar and like spend
- 12:19Speaker 1: a night with him. But that's an affair, that's a
- 12:21Speaker 1: Brooklyn affair. Yeah, he was in town, like he was
- 12:24Speaker 1: a tourist and he was staying at the Chelsea Hotel.
- 12:28Speaker 1: And this was right after the summer that I read
- 12:31Speaker 1: Just Kids. It was like such a quintessential New York
- 12:35Speaker 1: experience book is so perfect it is, I like picked
- 12:38Speaker 1: this guy up, we went and got pizza and went
- 12:41Speaker 1: back to the Chelsea Hotel and fucked all night, and
- 12:43Speaker 1: I was like, I am Patty Smith, I am Robert Thorpe,
- 12:47Speaker 1: I am all I am Well oh my god, Okay, wait,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you just dug up so much for me. I used
- 12:52Speaker 1: to host this other party at Beauty and Essex. Do
- 12:55Speaker 1: you remember that place? It's like I used to live
- 12:58Speaker 1: her on the corner front, so non non New Yorkers.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Beauty and Essex is a speak easy style um bar
- 13:04Speaker 1: wherein you go through an instrument repair shop to a
- 13:09Speaker 1: secret kind of bar that's like covered in red velvet.
- 13:11Speaker 1: It's very sexy and sleep but it's also like garbage.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And the worst people in Manhattan thrive in Beauty and Essex.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And I would ascend this velvet staircase pastor rope if
- 13:21Speaker 1: you like, you know, said the name Fran at the door,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and I remember I felt like so sheet. But it
- 13:25Speaker 1: was all produced by Michael, who's this like cereal like
- 13:28Speaker 1: horrible person. Honestly, a lot of party promoters are horrible people,
- 13:32Speaker 1: Like I mean not to name drop people. Actually we
- 13:34Speaker 1: can just we can. We can bleep it, but we'll
- 13:37Speaker 1: bliep it up. You do start feeling when you work
- 13:52Speaker 1: enough of those parties that like you, like you understand
- 13:56Speaker 1: that you are there to provide atmosphere for the people
- 14:00Speaker 1: who were actually paying to be there, who are paying
- 14:03Speaker 1: you to be there, and there is a very fine
- 14:06Speaker 1: line of feeling very valued and very disposable. Like I mean,
- 14:10Speaker 1: this is like a like totally stupid whatever example. But
- 14:14Speaker 1: at Holy Mountain, the Lady Fag party that I hosted,
- 14:17Speaker 1: like from the beginning of it, I don't know if
- 14:19Speaker 1: you ever went, but it was at Sleep and in
- 14:22Speaker 1: the main room, the Obsidian Room City, and there was
- 14:26Speaker 1: that booth in the back that like for the whole
- 14:28Speaker 1: maybe like first year, was where all the hosts hung
- 14:32Speaker 1: out on that floor, you know, and it felt very
- 14:34Speaker 1: like we were in there, like feeling fabulous, looking down
- 14:38Speaker 1: on everybody and like would do drugs in there and
- 14:41Speaker 1: like whatever. And then there was one night where Erica
- 14:46Speaker 1: Jane and we got kicked and we got kicked out
- 14:51Speaker 1: of the booth. And then from then on it was
- 14:54Speaker 1: like very clear that that booth was for actual v
- 14:57Speaker 1: i p s and not to the people who were
- 14:59Speaker 1: worked the part that fucking sucks, and that honestly is
- 15:03Speaker 1: a testament to how ugly queer spaces can be when
- 15:07Speaker 1: they prioritize people based on class or eliteness and not
- 15:11Speaker 1: actually usually people were like coming in, we're coming into
- 15:14Speaker 1: like do like a little Safari moment where they're seeing
- 15:17Speaker 1: the sights for the night. That booth at Holy Mountain
- 15:21Speaker 1: ended one of my relationships literally, yes, how so so
- 15:26Speaker 1: I dated this ballet dancer briefly. He is, unfortunately one
- 15:29Speaker 1: of I think six ballet dancers I have dated or
- 15:32Speaker 1: hooked up, which is honestly, like that needs to be
- 15:35Speaker 1: I'm investigated. I mean, it's just it's just that I
- 15:37Speaker 1: like pretty pretty girls. I love bone structure and huge thighs.
- 15:42Speaker 1: But anyways, this guy was like he was rich, That's
- 15:46Speaker 1: what I'll say. He was rich. He was young, so
- 15:49Speaker 1: he was a brat. But he was hot and a
- 15:51Speaker 1: ballet dancer, so I didn't care. And one time I
- 15:54Speaker 1: was like, let's go to Holy Mountain UM. But we
- 15:56Speaker 1: didn't go together for whatever reason I can't remember. I
- 15:58Speaker 1: think he was coming with friends and I wasn't hosting.
- 16:02Speaker 1: But I had been invited to like sit a mandelaport's
- 16:05Speaker 1: table in the booth or whatever, the area where you
- 16:08Speaker 1: like look down on the rest of the venue, and
- 16:10Speaker 1: so when this guy came, I was already in the
- 16:13Speaker 1: booth and looking down to people, and I texted him.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I was like, come up to the booth, come up
- 16:17Speaker 1: to the booth, like let's hang, let's let's drink, and
- 16:19Speaker 1: blah blah blah. And I was very in my jug
- 16:22Speaker 1: and he never ever came up at any point like
- 16:26Speaker 1: I would have been able to let him in. And
- 16:28Speaker 1: I was like, wait, what's going on? And I was
- 16:30Speaker 1: like should I go down and find him? Like I
- 16:32Speaker 1: don't really, he wasn't really texting me back, and like
- 16:35Speaker 1: when I finally like met up with him, I think
- 16:38Speaker 1: he was like I'm leaving and I was like what.
- 16:40Speaker 1: And so we went outside and proceeded to have like
- 16:43Speaker 1: a cigarette infused argument about yes, there out outside the
- 16:49Speaker 1: barber girl. We were both tourists, which is like a
- 16:51Speaker 1: key component of like why this didn't work out, And
- 16:55Speaker 1: he was like you were up there in the booth
- 16:56Speaker 1: like fully just like in your and like you just
- 16:59Speaker 1: think you're better than everyone else. And it was such
- 17:01Speaker 1: a power play and like I felt it like blah blah,
- 17:03Speaker 1: And I was like a power play, mama, Like how
- 17:06Speaker 1: insecure are you? That also mean it kind of was.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It's not power play to say come join me, but
- 17:15Speaker 1: they do. But I'm sure there was part of it
- 17:17Speaker 1: that was if you got him to see you in
- 17:22Speaker 1: that context of like but being being a special person
- 17:27Speaker 1: in this space. But of course I do like why,
- 17:31Speaker 1: like what I need to feel bad at? I totally
- 17:33Speaker 1: get that there was there was. There was nothing more
- 17:36Speaker 1: exhilarating to me than arriving at a party, walking past
- 17:42Speaker 1: the line, waiting to get inside, going up to the
- 17:45Speaker 1: door person and saying Hi, I'm on the list, or
- 17:49Speaker 1: like hi, I'm hosting tonight, or like working. It's the
- 17:53Speaker 1: best feeling ever. I mean, the worst feeling ever is
- 17:56Speaker 1: when you do that and your name isn't on the list,
- 17:59Speaker 1: oh my, and you have to either like stand there
- 18:02Speaker 1: and wait while they like confirm with someone or get
- 18:06Speaker 1: turned away, which I mean I would never has not
- 18:08Speaker 1: has not happened to me. I would never take no
- 18:10Speaker 1: for an answer. I would just argue until their resistance
- 18:13Speaker 1: was weekend like I although that did happen to me
- 18:16Speaker 1: one time, but it was in Berlin. There was this
- 18:18Speaker 1: this party that I was going to with a bunch
- 18:20Speaker 1: of locals, and they all got in because they were
- 18:24Speaker 1: friends with the door girl and I because I was
- 18:27Speaker 1: like the tourist I did, I like didn't know them well.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I like I had met them through friends of friends.
- 18:32Speaker 1: And Berlin is very like not that kind of city,
- 18:35Speaker 1: Like they make people wait and so they all got
- 18:38Speaker 1: in and I had to wait in line, and like
- 18:42Speaker 1: I eventually got to cut the line, but I did
- 18:44Speaker 1: wait for like two hours. I mean everyone else waited
- 18:47Speaker 1: for like five hours. But it was humiliated. I it
- 18:53Speaker 1: reminds me, honestly of the Madonna party at the Boom
- 18:57Speaker 1: Moon Room that kicked off Pride last summer, which is
- 18:59Speaker 1: too long of a story for me to tell now,
- 19:02Speaker 1: but maybe I'll tell it for a future for a
- 19:04Speaker 1: future key, because I do actually have to tell you
- 19:06Speaker 1: about what I did last night and why I am
- 19:08Speaker 1: severely hungover right now. Okay, wait, I do want it.
- 19:11Speaker 1: One thing though, is when you are working the door,
- 19:15Speaker 1: which I have done a couple of time's never done
- 19:18Speaker 1: that before. I used to fill in for um for
- 19:22Speaker 1: Amy at the door Westgate occasionally, and the one night
- 19:26Speaker 1: I did was the night that is Zalia Banks performed
- 19:29Speaker 1: at Westgate. So the worst people on the planet are kind,
- 19:33Speaker 1: but but a girl That night was the night I
- 19:36Speaker 1: was taking bribes to get in and I made on
- 19:41Speaker 1: top of what I was getting paid to work the door,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I made like four hundred dollars that in bribes the
- 19:46Speaker 1: people who just wanted to get in and cut the line.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That's iconic. That's and then I and then I got
- 19:51Speaker 1: to like go upstairs to the booth and watch Zonias.
- 19:55Speaker 1: What's a good bribe? Like twenty bucks? Fifty bucks? Um?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Fifty was like the baseline. That's what I was gonna say.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I feel like it would have to be fifty um. Okay, um,
- 20:05Speaker 1: that is iconic. Azially Banks does draw some really some
- 20:09Speaker 1: really um terrifying crowds. As someone who's been in multiple
- 20:13Speaker 1: Assally Banks crowds before. Um, but I have to tell you, Okay,
- 20:17Speaker 1: so last night I went to this coach party which
- 20:19Speaker 1: was at the Monster. Do you remember the Monster? Yes,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I haven't really have spent a few quite a few
- 20:25Speaker 1: um nights that I would I would rather forget. It's
- 20:29Speaker 1: a it's a really I really love it, but it
- 20:32Speaker 1: is kind of a lost dingy gay bar. In the
- 20:36Speaker 1: last time I was like the Monster was when I
- 20:39Speaker 1: performed the Cell Blocked Tango from Chicago with Charlene Slater,
- 20:46Speaker 1: g S. Dring and um Amber Alert and a couple
- 20:50Speaker 1: other girls. That sounds we had like we had done
- 20:53Speaker 1: it one night at Straight Acting, I think, and then
- 20:56Speaker 1: like kind of toward it around a few different parties.
- 21:00Speaker 1: We did it at the Monster. We did it at
- 21:03Speaker 1: the party that Frankie Sharp used to throw at the Jane. Yeah, anyway,
- 21:09Speaker 1: that's so wait, wait, that's so funny. I um, I wait,
- 21:14Speaker 1: I have to know that, I think video if I
- 21:17Speaker 1: still have it on my phone, I will send it. Okay,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I'm dying to see. I have to know where you pop?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Were you cioa, where you lipshits? I don't actually remember, Rose,
- 21:26Speaker 1: how can you not remember? I don't know, but I
- 21:29Speaker 1: will I will. I will find it and send it
- 21:32Speaker 1: to you. And then he ran into my knife. That
- 21:34Speaker 1: would be you, that's my guess. No, I don't think
- 21:36Speaker 1: that was me. I think I was. I was. I
- 21:40Speaker 1: was not Velma because that was shar obviously. M Well,
- 21:46Speaker 1: we'll figure it out, we'll figure it out. We'll figure
- 21:47Speaker 1: it out. Um okay, like so yeah, coach had it.
- 21:50Speaker 1: It was like in collaboration with the Monster, which I
- 21:53Speaker 1: think is cool. It's like a historic queer bar. And
- 21:57Speaker 1: Daniel Rasmussen, who did the pr for this, like pulled
- 22:01Speaker 1: the most amazing crowd for this coach party, and like I, I,
- 22:06Speaker 1: you know, I'm not a I'm not a fashion girl,
- 22:09Speaker 1: so I kind of had low expectations for it. I
- 22:11Speaker 1: was like, oh, you know, if I'm invited, like then
- 22:13Speaker 1: I don't know who's going to be there. It was
- 22:14Speaker 1: like everyone. It was like everyone who organized Brook Liberation
- 22:17Speaker 1: with me. It was the cast of Fire Island. It
- 22:20Speaker 1: Rajah was there and when I walked in, I immediately
- 22:23Speaker 1: saw Mark Jacobs, like it was just like the who's
- 22:26Speaker 1: who of like New York queer scenes and like Um
- 22:29Speaker 1: Aquaria djade Um as well as oscar Enia from Poppy Juice.
- 22:34Speaker 1: And there was some performance by Saucy Santana which was
- 22:37Speaker 1: so good. But Rose I got blitzed and I don't
- 22:43Speaker 1: know why, but I was like, I'm gonna drink champagne
- 22:46Speaker 1: tonight because like champagne is on the open bar and
- 22:48Speaker 1: I'm guzzling champagne. At some point someone hands me extra
- 22:52Speaker 1: glasses of champagne. I walked away from the bar with
- 22:54Speaker 1: two glasses every time because it was so difficult to
- 22:56Speaker 1: get to the bar, and I got so so smashed.
- 23:00Speaker 1: At a certain point of the night, a neon sign
- 23:02Speaker 1: caught on fire because of some of the tinsel that
- 23:05Speaker 1: was behind it, and Willie Norris, Willie Norris takes everyone's
- 23:09Speaker 1: like throwing water on it. We're all faggots, so we
- 23:10Speaker 1: don't know what to do. We're like, how do we
- 23:12Speaker 1: fix this fire? The things on fire? Oh my god?
- 23:14Speaker 1: And Willie Norris comes out of nowhere with an extinguisher,
- 23:19Speaker 1: like full glam, like putting this fucking fire out. I'm
- 23:22Speaker 1: still looking for footage of it, if and if anybody
- 23:24Speaker 1: can find footage and send it to me. Um, but like,
- 23:27Speaker 1: my god, like this party was crazy, and unfortunately Matt
- 23:33Speaker 1: fucking Rogers was like, let's do shots. Rose. Why did
- 23:39Speaker 1: I do shots? Matt Rogers? Why did you make us
- 23:41Speaker 1: do shots? I'm very angry about this because putting a
- 23:45Speaker 1: shot on top of a belly of champagne is basically
- 23:49Speaker 1: does me. And I'm out for the night. My stomach
- 23:52Speaker 1: just turned. I do not remember the rest of the night,
- 23:56Speaker 1: but I remember having a ton of fun. But unfortunately
- 23:59Speaker 1: I did have sex planned after this party, um with
- 24:03Speaker 1: someone with like an ex who I have like a
- 24:05Speaker 1: really wonderful relationship with now and um, I basically like
- 24:11Speaker 1: I I like called them a voice momitor. I don't
- 24:12Speaker 1: even remember, but I was just like just a very warning.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I'm blitzed, like I'm so sorry. I did not plan
- 24:19Speaker 1: to be this drunk and I was so drunk that
- 24:22Speaker 1: we couldn't have sex. I literally was incapable, and it
- 24:26Speaker 1: was I mean, we know each other well enough that
- 24:28Speaker 1: it was fine, but I was still embarrassed and I
- 24:30Speaker 1: was like, God, like this this sucks. And also while
- 24:34Speaker 1: I was blitzed, I don't know why they did this,
- 24:36Speaker 1: but like while I was like ship faced on my
- 24:38Speaker 1: bed and we're like talking and like laughing about like
- 24:41Speaker 1: how drunk I am and how we can't even hook up,
- 24:43Speaker 1: they decided to take that moment to be like, hey,
- 24:45Speaker 1: you sub tweeted me the other day and it really
- 24:47Speaker 1: bothered me and here's why I hurt my feelings. And
- 24:49Speaker 1: I was like no, like because I was like it
- 24:53Speaker 1: was something that I shouldn't have done. It was it was,
- 24:55Speaker 1: it was not it was not a nice thing to
- 24:56Speaker 1: tweet um, but but they brought it up in that moment.
- 25:00Speaker 1: It and also they don't have Twitter, so I didn't
- 25:01Speaker 1: think they were ever going to see but someone sent
- 25:03Speaker 1: it to them, which is like, don't be a fucking cops. Sorry, um,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but they literally were like, um, hurt my feelings. And
- 25:09Speaker 1: I was like, I, you know, I want to do
- 25:11Speaker 1: right by you and I want to be accountable for
- 25:13Speaker 1: my behavior, but not in this state of mind I
- 25:15Speaker 1: am in right now. I mean, that's what happens when
- 25:18Speaker 1: you're that sucked up, as you go from sucking to processing,
- 25:21Speaker 1: like immediately. Well, I think since we've been you know,
- 25:36Speaker 1: catching up and being a little more personal, a little
- 25:39Speaker 1: more vulnerable, why don't we like try telling each other
- 25:43Speaker 1: a secret? A secret? Oh? Yes, I think we should
- 25:47Speaker 1: try and do a little game of truth or truth
- 25:50Speaker 1: when we do these little keys. Yes, and if I'm
- 25:52Speaker 1: telling the truth, these secrets were actually prepared by producer
- 25:56Speaker 1: Phoebe as we've been, who wrote some really juicy question yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 1: some of which we absolutely will not be answering when
- 26:03Speaker 1: there's a microphone recording our responses, and some of which
- 26:06Speaker 1: are a drag like many of them are a read
- 26:09Speaker 1: in and of themselves. Yes, I do feel like we
- 26:12Speaker 1: are being live sub treated by Phoebe um, as we
- 26:15Speaker 1: often are while we record as it should be. Yeah,
- 26:18Speaker 1: so so yeah for in which of these questions do
- 26:21Speaker 1: you want to answer? Well, one of them is, uh,
- 26:26Speaker 1: as people with public personalities, what is your favorite thing
- 26:29Speaker 1: you lie about to your fallowers? Which is like now
- 26:33Speaker 1: they're gonna know. But the thing about podcasting is like
- 26:36Speaker 1: this stuff never like you know, catch us fire like
- 26:39Speaker 1: gets transcribed, and so we can say anything we want
- 26:42Speaker 1: and honestly, no one will ever know about it except
- 26:44Speaker 1: for the you know, small select people, a group of
- 26:47Speaker 1: people that listen to this pod. Okay, I'm going to
- 26:50Speaker 1: have kind of, um a boring answer because it's not
- 26:54Speaker 1: a lie. I feel like I'm actually pretty honest with
- 26:56Speaker 1: the way I present myself online except meybe like the
- 26:59Speaker 1: law I have like face tune, which I don't use anymore.
- 27:03Speaker 1: But I think I try to engage with social media
- 27:07Speaker 1: in a way that feels very like I don't care
- 27:09Speaker 1: about any of this, like I could take this or
- 27:12Speaker 1: leave this, I could delete my Twitter tomorrow, um, when
- 27:15Speaker 1: in fact, like I actually receive a lot of validation
- 27:19Speaker 1: from the attention I get on social media, and so
- 27:22Speaker 1: like the casual nous of it is the lie can
- 27:25Speaker 1: we talk about this for a second, because when we
- 27:28Speaker 1: spent a few New Years ago together, you know, before
- 27:31Speaker 1: we went to this like random party, we were laying
- 27:34Speaker 1: in bed and you showed me like at the time,
- 27:36Speaker 1: how you like photoshopped your photos, and my jaw dropped.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I was like, what have I been missing out on
- 27:42Speaker 1: this whole time? Because I, you know, used to photoshop
- 27:45Speaker 1: my photos a lot too, and now I don't. But
- 27:47Speaker 1: I had never used face tune before or whatever app
- 27:50Speaker 1: that was. It was like, really like it was face
- 27:52Speaker 1: It was a lot. I know, I was a really
- 27:54Speaker 1: heavy handed face tune user, and like nothing nod it
- 27:58Speaker 1: looked unnatural. It no, it was it was really like
- 28:03Speaker 1: I wanted to look the way that I looked if
- 28:07Speaker 1: I took like the perfect photo of myself or you know,
- 28:11Speaker 1: just like twisting the things that I don't like about
- 28:14Speaker 1: my face or like whatever. And it was also at
- 28:16Speaker 1: a time when I was just like posting a lot more,
- 28:19Speaker 1: was like much more visible on social mediaw you're back
- 28:22Speaker 1: to being visible. So maybe it's uh, but your but
- 28:25Speaker 1: your thirst traps are one up to now you don't
- 28:27Speaker 1: have to use the face tune. I don't post like
- 28:30Speaker 1: that anymore. So I don't find myself needing to use
- 28:34Speaker 1: face tune. But then again, like that is the lie.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Like I do want the validation that comes from posting
- 28:40Speaker 1: a lot, but I am like so cognizant of wanting
- 28:43Speaker 1: to do this performance of not caring about social media.
- 28:47Speaker 1: But like to be fair, we both have very low
- 28:49Speaker 1: self esteem, like we were very insecure. I'll speak for
- 28:54Speaker 1: myself at least, like I'm very insecure, and like I
- 28:57Speaker 1: you know, a lot of this is reparative work, Okay,
- 28:59Speaker 1: I'm trying to grab the compliments that, like, you know,
- 29:02Speaker 1: to make up for lost time of like telling myself
- 29:04Speaker 1: that I was ugly for like you know, twenty years
- 29:07Speaker 1: or whatever, thirty years. And I feel like, um, I mean,
- 29:10Speaker 1: I luckily don't photoshop anymore either, but I used to
- 29:12Speaker 1: like make my ass bigger, which is so embarrassing. So
- 29:18Speaker 1: but obviously, I mean, James Charles doesn't need photoshop. But
- 29:21Speaker 1: you know, she she's she's got the real deal, I
- 29:24Speaker 1: mean real in air quotes. Um. But like I I mean,
- 29:27Speaker 1: now my are obsessed with James Charles. I am, I am,
- 29:30Speaker 1: I won't stop talking about her. Um, but like I
- 29:33Speaker 1: literally yeah him say his name. Yeah, So what's what's
- 29:36Speaker 1: your lie? Your followers? I mean, honestly, I this is
- 29:41Speaker 1: like a white lie, and I think it's relatable. I
- 29:43Speaker 1: think a lot of people do this, but like I
- 29:45Speaker 1: always say, like, I'm from Chicago, but the realty is
- 29:50Speaker 1: I was born on the South Side of Chicago, which
- 29:53Speaker 1: is Chicago, Chicago. But then like when I was five
- 29:56Speaker 1: or six, my parents moved into a suburb and so worried.
- 30:00Speaker 1: It's so barring. Can we can we can we each
- 30:04Speaker 1: tell each other what we think the answer should be. Okay, okay, yeah, yeah, okay.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So the lie that I think is that you are
- 30:11Speaker 1: not as nice as you present on that and I
- 30:16Speaker 1: mean that as a compliment. Is a compliment, But you are.
- 30:19Speaker 1: You are fucking queer mother Teresa on social media. You
- 30:23Speaker 1: are hey babies, I love you so much. You are
- 30:27Speaker 1: holding space for everyone, and you are not that nice,
- 30:31Speaker 1: not straight. You are my sister, but you you are
- 30:35Speaker 1: much you are And this is again I mean this
- 30:39Speaker 1: as a compliment. You are much meaner I r L
- 30:42Speaker 1: than you than you present online. I take that as
- 30:45Speaker 1: a compliment and I will own it because with my friends,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'm a very tough lover I'm very direct. I don't
- 30:50Speaker 1: spend a lot of time coddling. I just tell you
- 30:52Speaker 1: how it is. If you are coming to me to vent,
- 30:55Speaker 1: I'm usually not the right person to do it. I'm like,
- 30:57Speaker 1: let's problem solve, you know what I mean? Um, but
- 31:00Speaker 1: if I don't know you, God help you. Like, I
- 31:03Speaker 1: don't have a poker face, so I immediately turn off
- 31:06Speaker 1: if I'm not interested in conversation with you, And it's
- 31:08Speaker 1: very apparent that, like I don't care about this conversation. Um.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And I also just like if someone crosses me, like,
- 31:14Speaker 1: I have no problem being like, um, excuse me, I'm
- 31:17Speaker 1: worth more, you know. Um? But yeah, as I should.
- 31:21Speaker 1: But yes, what do you think? What do you think?
- 31:24Speaker 1: My lie? Is? I think you're a lie? I think
- 31:28Speaker 1: you're a lie? Is that all your tweets are sublime
- 31:32Speaker 1: moments of genius that happened on the spot, when in
- 31:34Speaker 1: reality you test drive them on me first. I definitely
- 31:39Speaker 1: do test drive them a lot. A lot of things
- 31:43Speaker 1: I tweet are things that I say in real life,
- 31:45Speaker 1: and then if someone laughs at them, I'm like I
- 31:47Speaker 1: should tweet that, yes, yeah, and I experienced that a lot,
- 31:51Speaker 1: like I'll be you know, I'll do my kind of
- 31:53Speaker 1: my semi regular like checking on your Twitter, and I'll
- 31:56Speaker 1: be scrolling and I'll be like, oh, yeah, Rose said
- 31:57Speaker 1: that to me the other day, So I guess it
- 31:59Speaker 1: makes sense. But you know, like it's it works out
- 32:02Speaker 1: for me because, as you know, I forget absolutely everything
- 32:05Speaker 1: I say to you as soon as I say it.
- 32:07Speaker 1: So to me. When I'm tweeting these things, they're brand new.
- 32:09Speaker 1: It's really just a journal, a diarrhe of sorts. Yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 1: just making sure you don't think I don't think I'm
- 32:15Speaker 1: lying by tweeting things like, it's not like I'm saying,
- 32:18Speaker 1: oh I just had It's not like every tweet to
- 32:20Speaker 1: have I I preface it by saying, oh, I just
- 32:22Speaker 1: had this amazing thought for the first time, and I
- 32:24Speaker 1: can't wait to share it with all forty four thousand
- 32:27Speaker 1: of you who follow me. Yeah exactly, Oh my god. Wow. Well,
- 32:32Speaker 1: now that we've exposed each other, I feel like this
- 32:35Speaker 1: has yeah, rosen Frand exposed. So we just asked each
- 32:40Speaker 1: other this, you know, like extremely personal question. Just tried
- 32:44Speaker 1: to expose each other. Ask a secret um for the
- 32:47Speaker 1: next the next couple of weeks. As we're doing these
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, Girls are Girling episodes. If you have a
- 32:53Speaker 1: question that you want to ask us, want us to

- 33:01Speaker 1: slide into our d M s at like a virgin
- 33:04Speaker 1: for UM, and you know, pitch some questions and we

- 33:28Speaker 1: you and you can follow me at Franz Squish Co
- 33:30Speaker 1: anywhere you want. Much thanks to our producer Phoebe who
- 33:36Speaker 1: really took in stride that we decided, Hey, let's do
- 33:38Speaker 1: four extra episodes this month, UM and create more work
- 33:41Speaker 1: for you and of course UM, thank you everyone at
- 33:44Speaker 1: i Heeart. This is an i Heeart Media production. Happy Pride,
