- 1:09Speaker 1: preview show, the annual preview show we do it every
- 1:12Speaker 1: year where I talk about some of my once and
- 1:16Speaker 1: things that you know are highly anticipated as far as projects.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So if you haven't had the opportunity to check that out,
- 1:23Speaker 1: whether it's in the audio form or right here on YouTube,
- 1:27Speaker 1: please do so. You know it's some interesting things there.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And don't act surprised when they happen, okay, because I've
- 1:35Speaker 1: already talked about them. We do this every year. But nevertheless,
- 1:39Speaker 1: big shout out to all the subscribers of the podcast
- 1:43Speaker 1: on audio form, those who have been listening for years,
- 1:46Speaker 1: whether it's on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or whatever. But big,
- 1:50Speaker 1: big shout out to all the new subscribers to the
- 1:53Speaker 1: channel on YouTube Hip Hop Now podcasts that joined in
- 2:00Speaker 1: times because December, you know, the channel had a big,
- 2:03Speaker 1: big boost. The goal for twenty twenty four was to
- 2:08Speaker 1: hit five hundred subscribers, and you know, if I hit
- 2:12Speaker 1: five hundred, get to one thousand, And we are around
- 2:15Speaker 1: sixteen hundred subscribers right here on YouTube, which is excellent.
- 2:20Speaker 1: The next goal is five thousand, so we have a
- 2:23Speaker 1: long way to go. So keep in mind if you're
- 2:26Speaker 1: new here and you like the content, whether it's coming
- 2:30Speaker 1: from the long form content, short form content, and even

- 2:39Speaker 1: ways you can support. Obviously, you could also support on
- 2:46Speaker 1: cash at because we don't have Patreon anymore. To support
- 2:49Speaker 1: the production of the podcast. You can hit the cash
- 2:52Speaker 1: act QR coder is right here on the screen, but
- 2:55Speaker 1: it's also located or my tag or my name or
- 2:59Speaker 1: whatever is located in the description, and maybe it's on
- 3:02Speaker 1: the screen. I don't remember if I put it on yet,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but who knows in the future who it'll be there. Okay,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but big shout out to hip Hop DX dot com,
- 3:13Speaker 1: All hip Hop dot Com, Double Xcel mag and a
- 3:17Speaker 1: couple of places where I get the stories from. Let's
- 3:20Speaker 1: get right into the business. So right at the top
- 3:26Speaker 1: of the year, you know, gifts just got unwrapped, tree
- 3:32Speaker 1: was still up. We're about the toast to you know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: the new year, and real quick, because I didn't say
- 3:43Speaker 1: it in the intro. I also want to send my
- 3:45Speaker 1: condolences out to those people who are going through the
- 3:49Speaker 1: wildfires in La which is just terrible. It just looks terrible.
- 3:54Speaker 1: You see all the house is burning. So hopefully people
- 3:57Speaker 1: have evacuated and are safe and try to find a
- 4:02Speaker 1: way to rebuild. Hopefully. A lot of people donate and
- 4:05Speaker 1: help people kind of get back some of the normalcy
- 4:09Speaker 1: they used to have before you fire hit their home
- 4:14Speaker 1: or hit their neighborhood or whatever. So piece to them
- 4:19Speaker 1: what wasn't fire in my opinion, Joey Badass put out
- 4:27Speaker 1: a freestyle at the very beginning of the year. Essentially
- 4:32Speaker 1: it was called the Ruler's Back, essentially planting his flag
- 4:36Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five. But in doing that lyrically, he
- 4:42Speaker 1: did two things that stood out to most hip hop
- 4:46Speaker 1: heads and not necessarily in a positive way, sparked some
- 4:52Speaker 1: debate but also a little bit of negativity. And maybe
- 4:56Speaker 1: it was just for the sport, because I haven't seen
- 4:58Speaker 1: anything too crazy. But the two things that he touched
- 5:02Speaker 1: on that really started it was the fact that one
- 5:06Speaker 1: he said too much West Coast licking. All right, it's
- 5:11Speaker 1: a family podcast. I'm not going to say the word,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but those who know that a line originally came from
- 5:18Speaker 1: Jay Z on Reasonable Doubt his first album twenty two
- 5:23Speaker 1: two's and the other line was him saying he loved
- 5:28Speaker 1: the East Coast, which isn't a big deal, but also
- 5:31Speaker 1: claiming he's the King of New York. Now. I am
- 5:35Speaker 1: from Brooklyn, New York, born and raised. I lived in
- 5:38Speaker 1: other places, not on the West Coast, but I've traveled
- 5:41Speaker 1: to the West Coast. I'm a big fan of West
- 5:44Speaker 1: Coast hip hop from the early nineties and some of
- 5:47Speaker 1: it today. So for me as a fan, I really
- 5:53Speaker 1: don't have an East Coast bias because my hip hop
- 5:57Speaker 1: palette has always been buried. But as one would think
- 6:03Speaker 1: that would ruffle some feathers for him to say some
- 6:05Speaker 1: of those things, the West Coast part more than the
- 6:09Speaker 1: King of New York, mainly because he's clearly talking about
- 6:14Speaker 1: Kendrick and inadvertently talking about the year the West Coast had.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Like if you looked at my top five of the year,
- 6:23Speaker 1: I think it was three year, it was three West
- 6:25Speaker 1: Coast albums in there, and that just happened to be
- 6:29Speaker 1: the type of year twenty twenty four was. It wasn't planned,
- 6:33Speaker 1: it's what the West Coast did. They put in work,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and a lot of people had, you know, like Snooping,
- 6:40Speaker 1: Doctor Dre or Kendrick or even the Dog Pound and
- 6:43Speaker 1: their best albums of the year. And then there were
- 6:45Speaker 1: other West Coast artists like from TD and all of
- 6:49Speaker 1: that who dropped very dope records. So twenty twenty four
- 6:54Speaker 1: was the West Coast year. While obviously the West Coast responded,
- 7:00Speaker 1: Ray Vaughn, who is a TD artist if you didn't know,
- 7:03Speaker 1: responded rapping over Kendricks the Heart part six with some
- 7:10Speaker 1: nice bars, you know what I'm saying, and he basically
- 7:13Speaker 1: the name of his freestyle is crash out Heritage, and
- 7:20Speaker 1: his rebuttal to Joey I was good. I say, Joey
- 7:26Speaker 1: fat Ass like pause, we don't know, but to Joey
- 7:30Speaker 1: Badass was more so about you tiptoeing around the names
- 7:34Speaker 1: and stuff where I'm gonna just be direct. And it
- 7:38Speaker 1: was a cool response. And I think also Daylight for
- 7:42Speaker 1: those who know battle Rap, also responded with a record. Honestly,
- 7:48Speaker 1: when I heard this from Joey Badass is freestyle of
- 7:53Speaker 1: rulers back as the fan of Joey Badass as a
- 7:56Speaker 1: born and raised New Yorker, I didn't necessarily like it
- 8:01Speaker 1: because I think I get the energy where Joey Badass
- 8:06Speaker 1: is coming from right like he's released music. He hasn't
- 8:10Speaker 1: released music in a little while, but he's released music
- 8:13Speaker 1: to let's just say like fanfare. And I don't mean
- 8:19Speaker 1: like he's like an underground rapper, meaning like he has
- 8:23Speaker 1: a mainstream eye on him. He just doesn't do the
- 8:27Speaker 1: numbers and he doesn't get the same attention as a
- 8:32Speaker 1: Kendrick A Drake, a J. Cole When he drops right,
- 8:36Speaker 1: people like there's some noise that, oh Joey badass got
- 8:38Speaker 1: something new, people check it out, but it's never really
- 8:42Speaker 1: like hoop lo. So he's trying to plan his flag.
- 8:45Speaker 1: The thing I don't like about it is in twenty
- 8:49Speaker 1: twenty five, with social media and so many people willing
- 8:54Speaker 1: to believe more misinformation than the information that's true, and
- 9:00Speaker 1: people who want to be attached to drama, and I'm
- 9:03Speaker 1: even talking about content creators, you get a situation where
- 9:09Speaker 1: we're not dealing with people paying attention to what's real
- 9:13Speaker 1: and what's not right, Like, did he mean it as
- 9:15Speaker 1: a whole slap to the West Coast? Maybe he did.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Maybe he meant it in a way we couldn't really
- 9:20Speaker 1: figure out. But the issue with that is we only
- 9:23Speaker 1: going to take it the way it seems. And if
- 9:26Speaker 1: people don't even know where that line comes from, the
- 9:29Speaker 1: line about you know, too much West Coast licking, then
- 9:33Speaker 1: they just gonna take it for what it is because
- 9:36Speaker 1: that's what it means. What else would it mean? And
- 9:38Speaker 1: I kind of felt like it was hating on, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: on a year that the West Coast had. It's not
- 9:45Speaker 1: like the West Coast had hip hop for like decades
- 9:51Speaker 1: and now New York want to take it back and
- 9:53Speaker 1: they're going to take it back in this way. Nah man.
- 9:56Speaker 1: This was like a resurgence of the West Coast having
- 10:02Speaker 1: you know, the public's air and eye on everything they
- 10:05Speaker 1: were doing. And it just happened. And I feel with
- 10:10Speaker 1: Joey battis is trying to do. He's trying to pop
- 10:13Speaker 1: out and say he's nice too. But it wasn't like
- 10:15Speaker 1: the bars were that crazy. It was just controversial, you
- 10:19Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, And to me, the best way
- 10:21Speaker 1: to pop out and this probably speaks to what what
- 10:25Speaker 1: he was thinking about when he did this. It's just
- 10:29Speaker 1: to drop something crazy at the beginning of the year
- 10:32Speaker 1: that everybody loves and then all the attention goes on
- 10:35Speaker 1: you in that way, like an admiration type thing, and
- 10:39Speaker 1: instead now you have the worst thing you would want
- 10:44Speaker 1: for somebody who wants to gain admiration. Nobody's going to
- 10:47Speaker 1: give you admiration when we've been celebrating West Coast hip
- 10:51Speaker 1: hop resurgence and you turn around and say it ain't
- 10:55Speaker 1: all that basically, you know what I'm saying, like yo,
- 10:58Speaker 1: y'all need to is not that it's not me as
- 11:02Speaker 1: king and I'm the King of New York, and it
- 11:05Speaker 1: just seems it just sounds crazy, you know, to say that.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So I'm kind of glad it feels like it's dying
- 11:14Speaker 1: down at least a little bit. I hope it goes away.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I think it will because the difference between Kendrick and
- 11:27Speaker 1: Drake going at it is you have two major pillars
- 11:31Speaker 1: in the music game going back and forth. People are
- 11:36Speaker 1: paying attention this, like, people are into it, it's the matchup.
- 11:41Speaker 1: But when Joey badass is considered to some people, several
- 11:45Speaker 1: tears down. I don't believe he needs to be that low,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but it is what it is. People are easy. They
- 11:53Speaker 1: could dismiss you easily as soon as they hear like
- 11:57Speaker 1: who's that dad? Oh he said it. They could be
- 12:02Speaker 1: very dismissive of anything you say, even if how you
- 12:05Speaker 1: said it was dope or you have bars and all
- 12:07Speaker 1: of that. It's just it's the type of game you
- 12:10Speaker 1: play today when you pop out like that, right, So
- 12:15Speaker 1: I kind of felt like it should have been a
- 12:19Speaker 1: very dope song, or maybe he should have exposed like
- 12:26Speaker 1: why he felt like that more than anything? Right? Like
- 12:29Speaker 1: why do you feel this way? You know, not metaphorically,
- 12:33Speaker 1: tell us directly in detail. Why the thing about the
- 12:37Speaker 1: King of New York thing? It's definitely not you. Because
- 12:42Speaker 1: even though I thought his last album, I think it
- 12:44Speaker 1: was called two thousand, I liked it, but it didn't
- 12:48Speaker 1: shift the culture. And maybe that's why he's mad, right,
- 12:51Speaker 1: Maybe he hasn't been getting his respect because he released
- 12:54Speaker 1: a couple of singles, some of which people didn't like,
- 12:58Speaker 1: some people really like. He did a guest feature on
- 13:01Speaker 1: Conway the Machines album that was really dope. I mean,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I think his bars on that was better than his
- 13:07Speaker 1: freestyle by a long shot. And I think he just
- 13:12Speaker 1: wants that attention because he feels like, yo, I'm nice too,
- 13:16Speaker 1: which is cool, But let the West Coast have day time, man,
- 13:20Speaker 1: like they just the South been holding on to hip
- 13:23Speaker 1: hop for a long time. It was like the first
- 13:26Speaker 1: time in a long time we were just hearing You're
- 13:29Speaker 1: not that it went away, but we were just hearing
- 13:32Speaker 1: like another sound dominate the radio, you know what I'm saying. So,
- 13:37Speaker 1: and he could have been he could have been talking
- 13:39Speaker 1: to like, see, this is where you mess up and
- 13:41Speaker 1: you lead people to interpret what you were doing and
- 13:45Speaker 1: your intentions and all that. He could have been talking
- 13:48Speaker 1: about New Yorkers specifically, or radio in New York, and
- 13:54Speaker 1: the same way Ice Cube was saying when they were
- 13:56Speaker 1: dissing New York, they were dissing you know, the guy
- 14:00Speaker 1: that controlled radio and media and all of that. But
- 14:03Speaker 1: the problem with that was back then they were generalizing,
- 14:07Speaker 1: so it sounded like they were just thissing anything from
- 14:09Speaker 1: New York, including the people. And it's the same thing
- 14:12Speaker 1: here with Joey bad As. If he's talking about Yo,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I'm putting out these joints and I'm from New York,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and the New York media or the New York radio stations,
- 14:23Speaker 1: they're not even covering my stuff like that. They're not
- 14:25Speaker 1: playing my song like that. But they every day I
- 14:28Speaker 1: got to hear them playing everything from the West Coast. Well,
- 14:33Speaker 1: to me, it's not the West coast fault. Now, it
- 14:36Speaker 1: would have been better, it would have been way. If
- 14:38Speaker 1: he wanted to grab the attention, he should have went
- 14:40Speaker 1: all in on that, if that's why he said what
- 14:44Speaker 1: he said. But instead now it feels like East Coast
- 14:49Speaker 1: versus West Coast light, like the Vegan version of that,
- 14:53Speaker 1: which wasn't really East Coast versus West Coast thing to
- 14:57Speaker 1: begin with, because the media kind to hype that whole
- 15:01Speaker 1: thing up and made people feel like they had to
- 15:03Speaker 1: respond or be on guard and stuff like that. So
- 15:06Speaker 1: I just wish she move on. I like Joey Badass.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I look forward to when he drops new albums. I
- 15:13Speaker 1: think American Badass is one of the most slept on
- 15:16Speaker 1: hip hop albums of all time because of timing and
- 15:20Speaker 1: maybe because the Pimple Butterfly was also out talking about
- 15:23Speaker 1: some similar things that it grabbed all the attention. But
- 15:28Speaker 1: this ain't the way to do it, Joey, not for me,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but who knows. What do y'all think? Leave your comments
- 15:33Speaker 1: in the comments section below. So Mac Miller, if you
- 15:40Speaker 1: listen to this podcast for more than just today, you
- 15:48Speaker 1: will know that I wasn't the biggest Mac Miller fan.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Had nothing to do with him personally. Obviously. This is
- 15:58Speaker 1: not something to speak of the dead. This is just
- 16:01Speaker 1: saying what I've always said when the man was here.
- 16:05Speaker 1: You know, I wasn't that much of a fan. I
- 16:07Speaker 1: didn't see the hype in him, and it was only
- 16:10Speaker 1: because there were so many artists similar in style and
- 16:15Speaker 1: delivery and even voice to him. Around the time he
- 16:20Speaker 1: was like hi, or just even out that it wasn't
- 16:26Speaker 1: just him, there was just certain individuals. I was like, yo,
- 16:30Speaker 1: listening to J Cole or I'm listening to Logic, you
- 16:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And I picked J Cole because
- 16:35Speaker 1: it was just too many similarities in the MC's But
- 16:40Speaker 1: I know, you know, people love mac Miller. He seemed
- 16:42Speaker 1: like a cool dude, definitely a hip hop head when
- 16:46Speaker 1: you had an admiration of the underground from the commercial
- 16:48Speaker 1: artists and all of that. But you know, he passed
- 16:52Speaker 1: away unfortunately, and he's had a couple I think one
- 16:59Speaker 1: or two maybe one postumus album since he passed, and
- 17:03Speaker 1: he has one coming up called Balloonerism, and the first
- 17:08Speaker 1: single just dropped called five Dollar Pony Rides. So I
- 17:12Speaker 1: gave it a listen because honestly, I'm always intrigued by
- 17:19Speaker 1: the popularity of certain artists, right like, I want to
- 17:23Speaker 1: see why they like him, and when I look at
- 17:25Speaker 1: the fans and what they say, sometimes that I become
- 17:28Speaker 1: a fan because I'm like, oh, I never looked at
- 17:30Speaker 1: it like that, and now I'm listening with a different
- 17:33Speaker 1: set of is versus somebody a fan might say, oh,
- 17:37Speaker 1: they talked that slick talk, and I listen, I'm like, nah,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I don't. I don't hear that at all. This person
- 17:44Speaker 1: deserved a spot. So it's not like I don't like
- 17:47Speaker 1: any back Miller songs. I just never been a fan
- 17:50Speaker 1: enough to be like hype for albums. But I'm curious
- 17:55Speaker 1: about this one in particular because they've been talking about
- 17:58Speaker 1: it for a while. The first single really fills that
- 18:03Speaker 1: lane of what I just said. A couple of guys
- 18:09Speaker 1: do this thing right, do this flow, have this cadence,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and it's more of a sing songy rhyming type of
- 18:16Speaker 1: song to me. I think it's cool. Honestly, it's what
- 18:21Speaker 1: I think Drake should just go back to doing instead
- 18:23Speaker 1: of bringing up the battle every five minutes like you
- 18:25Speaker 1: lost Dog. This is this is what we want, a mood,
- 18:29Speaker 1: a vibe or whatever. But I don't know if the
- 18:33Speaker 1: rest of the album was sound like this. They released
- 18:37Speaker 1: the track listing for a Balloonerism and there's a couple
- 18:42Speaker 1: of features on here. I know Scissors on here, who
- 18:45Speaker 1: else I don't know who Delusion, Thomas is uh and
- 18:51Speaker 1: and some others I heard that were supposed to be
- 18:53Speaker 1: a part of this project, So I'm curious and I
- 18:56Speaker 1: think for the first single, if you were a mac
- 18:59Speaker 1: Miller fan, you probably like it if you're a fan
- 19:04Speaker 1: of a certain mac Miller, because I do like mac
- 19:08Speaker 1: Miller when he gets super into the hip hop mode,
- 19:11Speaker 1: like almost a boombat mode. But this is more on
- 19:15Speaker 1: the commercial side of flows and sounds and stuff like that,
- 19:20Speaker 1: and I kind of dig it. But I'm curious to
- 19:23Speaker 1: see what the album is going to sound like, because
- 19:27Speaker 1: you just never know with these singles. Sometimes it's not
- 19:29Speaker 1: even worth listening to the singles because you could like
- 19:34Speaker 1: hate a single hit the album and didn't like that
- 19:37Speaker 1: single within the context of the album. So we'll see
- 19:41Speaker 1: when it drops. I'll definitely review it on this page
- 19:45Speaker 1: on this podcast. But what do you think about mac
- 19:49Speaker 1: Miller's latest single. Are you're a mcmillar fan? Are you
- 19:52Speaker 1: looking forward to this album? Leave your comments in a
- 19:54Speaker 1: comment section below. And lastly, all right, so this is
- 20:03Speaker 1: nothing new at all at this point when it comes
- 20:08Speaker 1: to hip hop and social media, and in a lot
- 20:11Speaker 1: of ways, social media and the culture and the conversations
- 20:17Speaker 1: spill out into the real world. There was a time
- 20:19Speaker 1: where you could just say that's just on Twitter. They yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 1: but that was in a group chat on Facebook. Yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 1: nobody believes that, but you know that was there out
- 20:32Speaker 1: here is different. Well, now it's not really that because
- 20:36Speaker 1: now some of these hip hop hot takes happened so
- 20:40Speaker 1: frequently about the same topics a lot of times that
- 20:46Speaker 1: they always spill out into the real world and people
- 20:49Speaker 1: start the question, is such and such better than such
- 20:54Speaker 1: and such? Like I saw one dude say and he
- 20:58Speaker 1: had made a video someone sent it to me. Made
- 21:00Speaker 1: a video and said a tribe called Quest is overrated,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and then he went on to break down their lines
- 21:10Speaker 1: in songs and like check the rhym and songs at
- 21:14Speaker 1: you know scenario and say how simplistic and how like
- 21:20Speaker 1: lines lacked meaning and stuff like that. And when I
- 21:24Speaker 1: saw that, I was like, wow, he was inside back then,
- 21:30Speaker 1: or he wasn't born, because if you paid any attention
- 21:35Speaker 1: to hip hop back in the early nineties, specifically East
- 21:39Speaker 1: Coast hip hop, the lyrics were always like playful, it's
- 21:45Speaker 1: about wordplay. It wasn't about this has to make sense
- 21:49Speaker 1: to connect to that. That there was that was like
- 21:52Speaker 1: ninety four and on that was like illmatic and on
- 21:55Speaker 1: when you had to do stuff like that. But before that,
- 21:59Speaker 1: with like Daylight, and not to say that everybody was
- 22:01Speaker 1: rapping nonsense, But a song like Blue Cheese, a song
- 22:06Speaker 1: like which is later like Luccini, right, you can't The
- 22:11Speaker 1: hook makes sense, but the versus a just wordplay, and
- 22:17Speaker 1: he couldn't understand that that's hip hop. Also, it's not.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Everything is not about a deep sense of meaning to
- 22:26Speaker 1: say that this person's great rights. It was about the vibe,
- 22:31Speaker 1: like you guys say. So I felt it funny that
- 22:34Speaker 1: somebody would say that, but I've seen all stuff like
- 22:38Speaker 1: Twitter just loves to take Big L and push him
- 22:41Speaker 1: ahead of so many other people who've had more albums,
- 22:44Speaker 1: more accolades, more classic material, you know, debatably even better lyrically,
- 22:52Speaker 1: and I don't know why. And some will say because
- 22:55Speaker 1: he is, But that was never a conversation. When Big
- 23:00Speaker 1: L was here. Big L was trying to get where
- 23:05Speaker 1: NAS and Biggie and jay Z where they were. He
- 23:09Speaker 1: was trying to get there. Some of it was labeled messing. Unfortunately,
- 23:13Speaker 1: when he got the proper label situation, you know, he
- 23:18Speaker 1: was murdered. So he never really got to do what
- 23:21Speaker 1: those guys did. So you got to work with the
- 23:25Speaker 1: material that's left, and unfortunately it's a lot of freestyles.
- 23:29Speaker 1: It's a debut album that even when it debuted, it
- 23:34Speaker 1: wasn't one of the greater albums in hip hop. It
- 23:37Speaker 1: was cool, but it wasn't better than Aromatic, It wasn't
- 23:42Speaker 1: better than Ready to Die, It wasn't better than Reasonable Doubt, right,
- 23:46Speaker 1: And then he got the which also I think dropped.
- 23:50Speaker 1: It dropped after he passed the flamboyant joint. What is
- 23:55Speaker 1: the big picture? So Big L never really got an
- 23:58Speaker 1: opportunity to launch for real. You know, he had his moment,
- 24:05Speaker 1: didn't pan out, but now he was getting a better
- 24:07Speaker 1: shot at it this time, and he had momentum. But
- 24:11Speaker 1: if you let social media tell it, he's better than
- 24:15Speaker 1: all of them. He should be above most of them,
- 24:19Speaker 1: in top five, top tens or whatever. And of course
- 24:24Speaker 1: it's okay if that's your personal take, right, you know,
- 24:29Speaker 1: if you love Big L that much and he connects
- 24:32Speaker 1: with you that much, of course he's in your top
- 24:34Speaker 1: five or top three. But if we speaking generally, which
- 24:39Speaker 1: is what's getting lost in the hot take culture, the
- 24:44Speaker 1: general consensus, the general consensus is not just you. The
- 24:48Speaker 1: general consensus is not just your friends, not just your city.
- 24:53Speaker 1: It's can you go in most places, and people from
- 24:58Speaker 1: different areas will considered that a classic, like that album
- 25:02Speaker 1: is a classic. I'm from LA that album is a classic.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I'm from South Carolina, you know, I'm from North Dakota.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I'm from Brooklyn, I'm from Philly. Universally, so, universally speaking,
- 25:17Speaker 1: rappers like you know, Big L weren't considered top five,
- 25:22Speaker 1: you know, when it came to the best artists of
- 25:25Speaker 1: all time, the greatest MC's of all time, most people
- 25:28Speaker 1: didn't feel that way. Some people didn't even hear some
- 25:32Speaker 1: of Big L's material, you know what I'm saying. But
- 25:35Speaker 1: it's the same thing with Try. You don't get to
- 25:39Speaker 1: the rock and Roll Hall of Fame because only queens
- 25:42Speaker 1: New York are only New York likes them. No, they
- 25:46Speaker 1: universally accepted as one of the great one of the
- 25:51Speaker 1: greatest hip hop groups of all time. And then for
- 25:55Speaker 1: people to make videos as if everybody else blind or
- 26:01Speaker 1: brainwashed or being told And I'm here to free your
- 26:04Speaker 1: minds by telling you they're not as good as you
- 26:09Speaker 1: think they are. That's stupid because people knew why they
- 26:14Speaker 1: liked those ricords. Now you're telling them you didn't really
- 26:16Speaker 1: like it the way you thought you should because they're
- 26:19Speaker 1: not really that good. So this happens all the time
- 26:23Speaker 1: on social media, and I think in a lot of
- 26:27Speaker 1: ways it is ruining hip hop because the further you
- 26:35Speaker 1: go with people having hot takes that they believe in,
- 26:41Speaker 1: some of it is not even trolling, they believe the
- 26:45Speaker 1: less the people who have been defending the honor of
- 26:49Speaker 1: those individuals, songs, albums that are sacred, that generally liked
- 26:55Speaker 1: and loved and hip hop. The more that narrative it's
- 27:00Speaker 1: not that good starts to take over because they got
- 27:03Speaker 1: all the energy because they got something to prove. Whereas
- 27:07Speaker 1: we sit around like, isn't this a known fact? Right?
- 27:11Speaker 1: Isn't it a known fact that ludicrous is nice but
- 27:14Speaker 1: he's not nots that's not known. That's not common knowledge
- 27:20Speaker 1: in the hip hop space. And to those who don't,
- 27:24Speaker 1: you know, don't really get in these circles to even
- 27:28Speaker 1: see some of the stuff. And I know you're wondering, well,
- 27:31Speaker 1: why would they say that? Because social media gives you
- 27:35Speaker 1: a way to pretend that, for one, you're knowledgeable about
- 27:42Speaker 1: things you may not be that knowledgeable about. And the
- 27:47Speaker 1: reason why you feel that way or encouraged is because
- 27:53Speaker 1: the Internet you can find thousands of people who think
- 27:58Speaker 1: just like you, which you feel like validates your take
- 28:04Speaker 1: on them. Well, I got a thousand likes, must I
- 28:08Speaker 1: must be right about it? No. No, it's the same
- 28:14Speaker 1: thing with getting rid of the thumbs down. Right, some
- 28:17Speaker 1: people abuse the thumbs down on certain sites like YouTube,
- 28:21Speaker 1: so they kind of got rid of it, or at
- 28:22Speaker 1: least rid of you seeing it. So now you see
- 28:27Speaker 1: the lights and people just go forward with that. So
- 28:29Speaker 1: I really don't like the hot take culture most of
- 28:33Speaker 1: the time. I don't respond to the to the nonsense,
- 28:37Speaker 1: especially as it relates to uh, you know times I
- 28:41Speaker 1: know I lived through, I know where like I wasn't
- 28:43Speaker 1: even in my own city, and I saw it where
- 28:47Speaker 1: I was when I was younger, and I saw it,
- 28:50Speaker 1: you know, in New York when I would come home
- 28:52Speaker 1: from college, and to me, there was no better signed
- 28:55Speaker 1: of oh yeah, this joint hot everywhere. So I don't know.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I did a show a while back called hip Hop
- 29:03Speaker 1: Twitter because the hip hop takes were so ridiculous. I
- 29:06Speaker 1: thought it was entertaining until I realized it would never
- 29:10Speaker 1: die and I would just be getting angry all the time,
- 29:15Speaker 1: and that's not what I want to do. So what
- 29:18Speaker 1: do you think about hip hop takes? And it potentially
- 29:25Speaker 1: ruining hip hop culture as far as the perception of
- 29:29Speaker 1: greats and great music and what's hot and what isn't
- 29:32Speaker 1: and what's a classic what isn't and true lyricists like
- 29:37Speaker 1: Kougi Rat almost never popping up in people top tens
- 29:41Speaker 1: because they don't know hip hop. That's going to do
- 29:45Speaker 1: it for me. You can follow me on anywhere in
