- 0:26Speaker 1: wait and see the updated Saints injury report here whenever
- 0:29Speaker 1: it does drop today to see what it looks like.
- 0:32Speaker 1: That was one of those things a day ago we
- 0:34Speaker 1: just didn't have a lot of time to focus on.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So I'm interested to see what it'll look like, obviously,
- 0:40Speaker 1: as we move through. Actually, here it is.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Okay, cool.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Actually, it just dropped two minutes ago. That's great news.
- 0:47Speaker 1: All right, so the Saints Raiders updated injury report is
- 0:51Speaker 1: out here after Thursday's practice. Let's run through it quickly.
- 0:56Speaker 1: There are three players that did not practice on Wednesday
- 1:00Speaker 1: were still absent and two new absences. One of them
- 1:03Speaker 1: very relevant. We'll get to here in just a quick second.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Let's go through the DNPs. So, Barry and Brown, Martin Emerson,
- 1:10Speaker 1: Christian Miller didn't practice Wednesday. All three, again, did not
- 1:15Speaker 1: practice on Thursday. The two new DNPs are Devon Gottschall, which, remember,
- 1:21Speaker 1: that's just a veteran rest day. Same thing last year,
- 1:24Speaker 1: same thing this year. They just give him the day
- 1:26Speaker 1: off on Thursday, so cool. So Godshaw's fine. Kendra Miller
- 1:33Speaker 1: practiced on Wednesday. It was a DNP Thursday, but it
- 1:35Speaker 1: was listed with an illness designation. So thankfully, not an injury,
- 1:40Speaker 1: because whenever we see Kendra Miller pop up on the
- 1:42Speaker 1: injury report, that is typically problematic. So that's good. Again,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I'll reiterate here what I said on Monday, and I'll
- 1:49Speaker 1: continue to say, You know, Alvin Kamara had 15 touches
- 1:53Speaker 1: in the game this past Sunday, while Kendra Miller was
- 1:56Speaker 1: a healthy scratch. I understand Alvin Kamara's history. He's the
- 2:00Speaker 1: greatest running back in the history of the organization. He
- 2:03Speaker 1: is not anywhere close to the player he was. And
- 2:07Speaker 1: I don't need Kamara getting nine rushing attempts and five
- 2:10Speaker 1: receptions in a football game. Kendra Miller is younger. He's
- 2:15Speaker 1: more physically gifted at this stage in his career. I
- 2:18Speaker 1: would rather see Kendra Miller get those touches, then Kamara.
- 2:22Speaker 1: As much as that hurts my heart to say, just
- 2:24Speaker 1: the reality of the situation when you're dealing with an
- 2:26Speaker 1: aging player, especially at that position. So we'll see if
- 2:29Speaker 1: Miller gets over this illness and is ready to go
- 2:31Speaker 1: on Sunday and if he will be active. There's good
- 2:35Speaker 1: news on the injury report. Travis Aitken was the notable
- 2:41Speaker 1: addition a day ago. He was limited with a hamstring.
- 2:44Speaker 1: He was back out there again Thursday and limited with
- 2:46Speaker 1: a hamstring injury. The fact that he has participated both
- 2:49Speaker 1: days is generally a good indicator that he's going to
- 2:52Speaker 1: be good to go. Typically, you'll know by Friday. So
- 2:54Speaker 1: by Friday, if he's either limited or a DNP, then
- 2:57Speaker 1: you really worry about Sunday. But if by Friday he's
- 2:59Speaker 1: limited or full, you feel really good. The other really
- 3:02Speaker 1: good news for New Orleans is Jonas Sanker, Nathan Shepard,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and Chase Young were all upgraded on the injury report.
- 3:07Speaker 1: So Sanker with the knee, Shepard with the hip, Young
- 3:10Speaker 1: with the calf, all were limited Wednesday, full on Thursday.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So that's the fantastic news for New Orleans today. I'm
- 3:17Speaker 1: a little uneasy about Barry and Brown with a hamstring injury,
- 3:22Speaker 1: back-to-back days with the DNP, especially with what Brown gave
- 3:27Speaker 1: you in the return game with the long, the 53-yard
- 3:29Speaker 1: kickoff return at the end of the first half. And
- 3:31Speaker 1: when you start to look at the pass catchers, that
- 3:34Speaker 1: room is thinning out, a room where in the summer
- 3:36Speaker 1: you thought you had great depth. And then Jalen Polk retires,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and Jordan Tyson's out for two months, and now Barry
- 3:41Speaker 1: and Brown is a DNP. Your numbers are getting thinner there.
- 3:45Speaker 1: So Brown's going to be one to watch going into
- 3:48Speaker 1: this weekend. As for the Raiders, they have not yet
- 3:50Speaker 1: released their Thursday update on the injury report. But the
- 3:55Speaker 1: only notables here, there were two DNPs, Aiden O'Connell, the quarterback,
- 3:58Speaker 1: and then Trayden Stukes, the safety, was a DNP with
- 4:02Speaker 1: a concussion. So we'll see. The great news for the
- 4:05Speaker 1: Raiders that Brock Bowers was limited on Thursday with the knee.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Looks like he is trending today. to make his debut
- 4:11Speaker 1: this weekend in New Orleans against the Saints. That's certainly
- 4:13Speaker 1: relevant for a Raiders team that just does not have
- 4:18Speaker 1: a talented receiving core. But Bowers is obviously an outstanding
- 4:22Speaker 1: pass-catching tight end and would be really the one big
- 4:25Speaker 1: mismatch problem for New Orleans, for everybody that plays the Raiders,
- 4:29Speaker 1: if we're being perfectly honest. So that's one worth keeping
- 4:31Speaker 1: an eye on as we move through the day today
- 4:33Speaker 1: and wait to see what the Raiders' update on the
- 4:35Speaker 1: injury report is. Not notable. as the Saints host the
- 4:38Speaker 1: Raiders this weekend in the Dome. And sometimes, we've talked
- 4:43Speaker 1: about it plenty, sometimes you just get lucky with injuries.
- 4:46Speaker 1: There was the season we talked about a few years
- 4:48Speaker 1: ago where the Saints faced Tommy Cutlets and Tyson Bajent,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and it was like all these backup quarterbacks they got
- 4:53Speaker 1: to face. That was the year they went 9-8 under D.A.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And they got lucky. They faced a bunch of backup
- 5:01Speaker 1: quarterbacks throughout the year. Well, you think about the circumstance now,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and the Saints have been snakebitten with injuries, but look
- 5:08Speaker 1: at who they've played, right? When you look at the
- 5:11Speaker 1: fact that this past weekend, you went to Baltimore and
- 5:13Speaker 1: Baltimore was without their top two receivers, no Zay Flowers,
- 5:17Speaker 1: no Colby Lane. So those two guys would have created
- 5:20Speaker 1: a real problem for Kool-Aid McKinstry and for, and for
- 5:24Speaker 1: Quincy Riley. Instead, you get to face backups, which are,
- 5:29Speaker 1: which was much more of a punch at your own
- 5:31Speaker 1: weight for the new Orleans secondary. You know, This weekend,
- 5:34Speaker 1: you're going to face the Raiders, who don't have a
- 5:37Speaker 1: great dynamic receiving core. But then you can start to
- 5:40Speaker 1: look ahead as well. The Saints are going to play
- 5:42Speaker 1: the Falcons on Monday Night Football on October the 5th.
- 5:44Speaker 1: AJ Terrell has been put on IR. He's not going
- 5:47Speaker 1: to be there, so they're going to be down at
- 5:48Speaker 1: defensive back. And then you think about the Saints going
- 5:52Speaker 1: to the Giants after the back-to-back-to-back home games. They're going
- 5:55Speaker 1: to go play in New York against the Giants. The
- 5:58Speaker 1: unfortunate news for Jackson Dart is he's done for the year,
- 6:01Speaker 1: so you're not going to face Jackson Dart. Now, you
- 6:03Speaker 1: beat Dart in the Dome a year ago. That's the
- 6:05Speaker 1: only game, by the way, that Spencer Rattler won as
- 6:07Speaker 1: a starting quarterback in his career. But now Dart's out,
- 6:10Speaker 1: which means Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback for
- 6:13Speaker 1: the Giants when the Saints go up to New York
- 6:16Speaker 1: in Week 6, and that's something that John Harbaugh talked
- 6:19Speaker 1: about when he met with reporters announcing the injury to
- 6:22Speaker 1: Dart and what they feel about Jameis.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Well, he can throw it. I mean, he's a big, strong...
- 6:28Speaker 2: passing quarterback you know he can he can he can
- 6:30Speaker 2: throw the ball everybody you know follows football has certainly
- 6:34Speaker 2: seen james play and that's uh his strengths are evident
- 6:38Speaker 2: so that's what you build around the.
- 6:43Speaker 1: The interesting thing is if you think about john harbaugh
- 6:47Speaker 1: and his history and he won a super bowl with
- 6:50Speaker 1: joe flacco who was just the definition of a statue
- 6:54Speaker 1: um But then they drafted Lamar Jackson, and he pivoted
- 6:57Speaker 1: in this era of football. And he took this Giants
- 7:00Speaker 1: job with Jackson Dart, who is a mobile dual-threat quarterback.
- 7:04Speaker 1: That is not what Jameis Winston is. Jameis Winston is
- 7:07Speaker 1: more of a throwback, pocket passer. And for all of
- 7:10Speaker 1: the explosive dynamic ability that he has with his arm,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and we all know the knock on Jameis is the interceptions.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And that has been just evident and a thing he
- 7:18Speaker 1: has never been able to shake throughout his career, which
- 7:20Speaker 1: is why he's largely been relegated to it, which is
- 7:23Speaker 1: why Tampa Bay did not re-sign him, and why He's
- 7:25Speaker 1: largely been relegated to being a backup throughout his career.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So you look at Jameis even in limited opportunities and
- 7:33Speaker 1: limited attempts here. On Sunday, he finally gets in the
- 7:39Speaker 1: game after Dart's injury. No touchdowns, throws a pick. He
- 7:42Speaker 1: was 11 for 27 with no touchdowns and a pick.
- 7:45Speaker 1: You think last year with the Giants, he played in
- 7:47Speaker 1: three games. Two touchdowns, two picks. 2024 with Cleveland, 13 touchdowns.
- 7:52Speaker 1: 12 picks. 23 with the Saints, two touchdowns, three picks.
- 7:59Speaker 1: 2022 with the Saints, four touchdowns, five picks. I mean,
- 8:02Speaker 1: it's just, this is who he is. In his career,
- 8:05Speaker 1: 156 touchdowns, 114 picks. Jameis throws it to the other team.
- 8:09Speaker 1: He's going to make wild plays. He's also going to
- 8:12Speaker 1: throw the ball to the other team. That is, has
- 8:15Speaker 1: always been the knock. The one exception was that first
- 8:18Speaker 1: year in New Orleans, I guess the year after Breeze retired,
- 8:22Speaker 1: He was the backup to Breeze in the COVID year
- 8:24Speaker 1: and then took over in 2021 and had an outstanding
- 8:27Speaker 1: start to the season. And then it just unraveled on him.
- 8:32Speaker 1: He had 14 touchdowns and three interceptions through those seven games.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Sean Payton and that offense had kind of purged the
- 8:42Speaker 1: bad out of Jameis. But as soon as Sean Payton
- 8:44Speaker 1: was gone, Jameis reverted to everything that he was before
- 8:47Speaker 1: and has been since. how do you not love the
- 8:51Speaker 1: saints in that, in that game? So you just look
- 8:53Speaker 1: at sometimes, man, you catch breaks in an NFL season.
- 8:56Speaker 1: The saints have had bad luck with their own injuries,
- 8:59Speaker 1: but they've had that sort of, um, counterbalanced by some
- 9:03Speaker 1: just fortunate circumstances with their opponents being down some key
- 9:08Speaker 1: guys that sort of favor a matchup with, uh, with
- 9:10Speaker 1: LSU or with, uh, with the new world saints. We'll see.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I meant I was going to say LSU because I
- 9:13Speaker 1: was thinking Malik neighbors on the brain. And I just,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I hate the injury to Malik neighbors. Um, But he
- 9:20Speaker 1: is an explosive, dynamic number one receiver who injured his
- 9:25Speaker 1: shoulder in week one and we'll see what, or week
- 9:28Speaker 1: two I should say, and we'll see what his availability
- 9:30Speaker 1: may be by the time that the Saints head up
- 9:32Speaker 1: to the Giants. So it just may well be a
- 9:35Speaker 1: thing where the Saints just keep catching a few injury
- 9:40Speaker 1: breaks here as they move throughout the season despite having
- 9:43Speaker 1: plenty of their own.
