- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that Uh, Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 1: The rex was not chasing the jeep.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Murray, Murray, you there. You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go
- 0:11Speaker 2: to uh eighty he is bo wow that Prime Time.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Maybe I had a crush on Betty Rubbell.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 1: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 1: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 1: the game.
- 0:29Speaker 3: You're listening to ste Gottson Company.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Ste Gottson Company, presented by Fandel and the FanDuel Sportsbook.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I have a mystery topic. Is he and Taylor will
- 0:38Speaker 1: not tell me about this mystery topic. We'll get to
- 0:41Speaker 1: it in just a second. Damon Stottameyer is going to
- 0:44Speaker 1: join us later in this episode Untold jail Blazers. That
- 0:49Speaker 1: documentary comes out today on Netflix. Very excited to talk
- 0:53Speaker 1: to him. But first, a mystery topic. What do you are? Yeah,
- 1:00Speaker 1: it's a bit of a roller coaster here.
- 1:02Speaker 4: So it's a bit of a moral dilemma because I
- 1:05Speaker 4: saw a headline where Dick Vitel. The headline reads ESPN's
- 1:09Speaker 4: Dick Vitel to keep fighting after melanoma diagnosis, and obviously
- 1:12Speaker 4: he's had his issues with cancer, but currently he announced
- 1:16Speaker 4: that as Melanova is lung and liver cavity and be
- 1:20Speaker 4: starting immino therapy soon. So that part obviously very serious.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Don't want you to be joking about that. However, there's
- 1:28Speaker 4: another situation revolving Dick Vital that is so funny.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I don't think we can avoid talking about it, Okay, I.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Mean this is not maybe not today to discuss funny
- 1:39Speaker 1: topics related to Dick Vital. We hope that he's well,
- 1:41Speaker 1: we hope he gets better, and we love Dicky v
- 1:44Speaker 1: Here we do. But go ahead, go ahead, I'm not
- 1:46Speaker 1: going to stop you.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I'll even throw in a quote that Dick Vitel says,
- 1:49Speaker 4: the best news I can share today is I feel fantastic. Okay, right,
- 1:52Speaker 4: So what helps us feel fantastic if we can have
- 1:55Speaker 4: a little laugh every once in a while. Yes, and
- 1:57Speaker 4: so Taylor, do you want to take it from here?
- 1:59Speaker 4: I have the tweet in front of me, but if
- 2:01Speaker 4: you want to read it, please do.
- 2:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 6: So Stu, you know the Yukon guard Braylan Mullens, the
- 2:06Speaker 6: one who hit the shot against Duke.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Uh yes, I am familiar with Brandon Mullens.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yes, no Braylin, but Okaylan.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Clever Braylan, Brandon Tomato Tomato, I mean Jesus, go ahead.
- 2:16Speaker 6: So Dicky V got got by a fake Twitter account
- 2:19Speaker 6: that tweeted Yukon guard Braylan Mullins will hold the first
- 2:24Speaker 6: ever nil auction to determine what his next team will be,
- 2:29Speaker 6: with the minimum bid starting at six million dollars. Mullins
- 2:33Speaker 6: intends to return to college and wants to be with
- 2:36Speaker 6: the team that is willing to.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Pay him the most. Mm hm.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Dicky V tweeted at this account and said this is
- 2:42Speaker 6: college sickening. NC double A must do something about the
- 2:45Speaker 6: chaos going on. How in the world can they write
- 2:48Speaker 6: all about student athletes in their NC double A manual
- 2:51Speaker 6: that is a joke. Put some rules together to end
- 2:55Speaker 6: this wild wild West.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Yes, I agree with Dicky V even though it's a
- 2:58Speaker 1: fake account, but go ahead.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Well, first of all, nil auction sounds like a great idea.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I mean, we're talking.
- 3:05Speaker 4: About an upgrade from just having a few hats on
- 3:08Speaker 4: the table and a player.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Just picking one.
- 3:10Speaker 4: You got an auctioneer going off on Braylen Mullins, I
- 3:13Speaker 4: got six million, six millionaires. I've million are like that
- 3:15Speaker 4: would be amazing. Imagine the older coaches just not being
- 3:19Speaker 4: able to keep up and losing on a player because
- 3:21Speaker 4: he doesn't understand what the auctioneer is saying.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yes, but here's my favorite part of the stories.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Dude, they talk very quickly.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yes, go ahead, right underneath the post.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it's something that says the post is from a
- 3:35Speaker 4: satire account that states in its bio everything I do
- 3:39Speaker 4: is satire. No such an il auction by Brayln Mullins
- 3:42Speaker 4: had reported, right, so is he.
- 3:45Speaker 6: The reason why they added that note is because it
- 3:47Speaker 6: got Dicky V. Dicky V got got before that note
- 3:51Speaker 6: got posted, and then somebody called out Dicky V for
- 3:55Speaker 6: getting got by a satire account, which a whole different story.
- 3:59Speaker 6: I would pay for a version of Twitter that didn't
- 4:01Speaker 6: have the satire accounts. I don't think they're funny. I
- 4:04Speaker 6: don't think they're particularly clever. I did laugh at this one,
- 4:07Speaker 6: so it's a bit of a catch twenty two.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Well, you laughed at this one because Dicky V fell
- 4:12Speaker 1: for it, right, That's the reason whatever an old person,
- 4:14Speaker 1: especially one battling cancer, falls for it. We start laughing
- 4:18Speaker 1: at him. I mean I've fallen for him before. I mean,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you send me them all the time. Yes, I'm like, Taylor,
- 4:24Speaker 1: let's start with this today. He's like, it's a fucking
- 4:26Speaker 1: parody account.
- 4:27Speaker 3: What are you doing it?
- 4:28Speaker 6: Patrick Mahomes is not batting third for the Texas Rangers tonight.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yes, Andy Reid admits he should have stuck with Alex Smith.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I mean, I'm like, Taylor, get the sound.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Wait a second, Taylor, you now need to send everybody
- 4:44Speaker 4: or just tell us the best of the best of
- 4:47Speaker 4: those that Stugats has sent you, because I want to
- 4:50Speaker 4: do a show where we respond to nothing but his
- 4:53Speaker 4: fake Twitter account.
- 4:55Speaker 1: That he got got by. I'm team Dicky V. I mean,
- 4:58Speaker 1: leave him alone, jesus.
- 5:00Speaker 6: I'm also team Dicky V. Where if you it doesn't
- 5:02Speaker 6: seem like a one on Team Dicky V. If you're
- 5:06Speaker 6: out here and your Twitter accounts premise is fooling people
- 5:10Speaker 6: like Dicky V, I want you off the platform. I'm
- 5:14Speaker 6: there's no place for you on my version of Twitter.
- 5:16Speaker 6: But somebody called out Dicky V and said, hey, Dicky V,
- 5:20Speaker 6: just let you know that's a satire account. He said,
- 5:23Speaker 6: it still is what I said, chaos galore.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Rules are needed.
- 5:27Speaker 6: Can't the NCAA see what is going on? No stability
- 5:30Speaker 6: at all, and the leader is talking about expanding the tournament,
- 5:34Speaker 6: screwing around with the one magical thing in college hoops,
- 5:37Speaker 6: get after the real problems. To Dicky V's point, and
- 5:41Speaker 6: to Dicky V's defense, an nil auction is not the
- 5:44Speaker 6: craziest concept.
- 5:46Speaker 4: It's that yeah, and this account Shane Tuttle with a
- 5:49Speaker 4: blue check mark is there's nothing about that that would
- 5:51Speaker 4: suggest anything that it's a fake at Shane Tuttle NC
- 5:55Speaker 4: double A.
- 5:56Speaker 3: He's real to be.
- 5:57Speaker 1: The only issue is with an auction besides it just unseemly,
- 6:01Speaker 1: but the the issues like what if the player doesn't
- 6:03Speaker 1: want to go to the school who bids the.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Most, it would have It would have to be a
- 6:08Speaker 6: situation where the player allows certain teams came to set auction.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Yeah, their finalist comes in and then they finally bid
- 6:16Speaker 4: for him. It could be there's no limit to the
- 6:18Speaker 4: number of finalists, but on the finalists come in.
- 6:20Speaker 1: So there are five hats. These are the five teams
- 6:23Speaker 1: that are allowed to bid on this particular guy. He
- 6:25Speaker 1: has given them permission to put him up for auction,
- 6:28Speaker 1: which is again unseemly. It seems ridiculous. It's twenty twenty six.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Every time they bid you raise the hat. Instead of
- 6:35Speaker 4: a number, you just raise your school hat. Seven million
- 6:38Speaker 4: for Brayley Mullins.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yes, but you're worried that an old coach in the
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know, as they're bidding and the auction off of
- 6:46Speaker 1: a player, one coach might not be able to keep
- 6:49Speaker 1: up with the auctioneer. The guy who's talking will definitely
- 6:51Speaker 1: be a code made. He might he might raise his
- 6:53Speaker 1: left arm instead of his right arm. The left arm
- 6:56Speaker 1: means you're out. The right arm means you want to
- 6:58Speaker 1: bid more.
- 6:59Speaker 3: It's a disaster, dude, that I want to see it.
- 7:01Speaker 4: There'll be a coach who raises his hat to scratch
- 7:03Speaker 4: his head because he forgett that that counts eight million
- 7:06Speaker 4: dollars for a terrible player.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Oh no, confused to talk about made for TV. All
- 7:12Speaker 1: of a sudden, he's been in a million more than
- 7:14Speaker 1: he wanted to do in a particular player, simply because
- 7:17Speaker 1: he had an inch.
- 7:20Speaker 3: A great idea.
- 7:23Speaker 1: They should be it should be made for television.
- 7:25Speaker 3: It should I think, Dicky V. I agree with Taylor.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Where there should be a pay version that takes us
- 7:33Speaker 4: back to old Twitter. It's just like, hey, you want
- 7:36Speaker 4: to go back to the way it was. Ten dollars
- 7:37Speaker 4: a month will clean all this shit up.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Great.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but I don't want Dicky V to subscribe for that.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I need him to stay in the wild Wild West
- 7:44Speaker 4: because I need to see how many times you can
- 7:46Speaker 4: get got.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You need me to stay in the wild wild West
- 7:49Speaker 1: because you want to see how many times someone's gonna
- 7:51Speaker 1: get me. It happens every day.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 7:53Speaker 4: For that point, I would not want you to subscribe either.
- 7:55Speaker 4: I definitely want Taylor for the radio show today. If
- 7:58Speaker 4: you have three or four of those maybe that we
- 8:00Speaker 4: haven't brought up, that would be gold.
- 8:03Speaker 6: The NFL is considering dropping the Jets as an NFL friend.
- 8:07Speaker 6: Those are the type of stories.
- 8:08Speaker 1: He said, Yeah, I sent them one of those. There
- 8:10Speaker 1: was one where Lawrence Taylor was considering it comeback, I
- 8:15Speaker 1: said to the tailor, saying he'd have twenty sacks in
- 8:17Speaker 1: today's NFL. I mean, I love it.
- 8:22Speaker 3: You just turned it into your own personal playground. It
- 8:24Speaker 3: doesn't matter if it's real or not. I'll have fun
- 8:25Speaker 3: with that thought.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Well, I mean that's what Dicky v Listen, whether it's
- 8:28Speaker 1: real or not, he stayed in trench. And that's what
- 8:30Speaker 1: I appreciate about one Dick Vitale. He don't give a bleep.
- 8:33Speaker 4: But even when the rest of the world knows I'm wrong,
- 8:35Speaker 4: I'm not wrong, yes, but he has.
- 8:40Speaker 1: The ultimate trump card. You know that, right, which is
- 8:44Speaker 1: I'm fighting cancer.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Oh right, I forgot about that by the story of
- 8:47Speaker 4: my bad Yeah, he can say anything.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Well he can't because he just I guess he can't. Right.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Is here You into the playing games tonight, are you?
- 8:58Speaker 1: Because I can't stand this play intoward. It drives me
- 9:01Speaker 1: up the wall. These are teams that have no business
- 9:04Speaker 1: like they're gonna play for a spot in the playoffs
- 9:07Speaker 1: and once they get to the playoffs, they'll be done
- 9:09Speaker 1: in four games. Like I don't want to see it.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I don't care about it.
- 9:13Speaker 4: I am intrigued by this Miami Charlotte matchup because I
- 9:17Speaker 4: do want to see what the reaction is if Miami
- 9:21Speaker 4: knocks out America's team. I'm telling you, man, the amount
- 9:26Speaker 4: of Charlotte Hornets discussion is disproportionate to their final record.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Like when it comes to the amount of talk and
- 9:32Speaker 4: what they've done, but you know, they've been fun.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Late in the season.
- 9:35Speaker 4: That's starting lineup with Diabate in there has been very good.
- 9:41Speaker 4: But it's also like the postseason, right, I don't want
- 9:45Speaker 4: to say the playoffs, it's the postseason and this group
- 9:48Speaker 4: hasn't sniffed the postseason in their entire existence. And so
- 9:51Speaker 4: in a one game scenario, can the Miami Heat go
- 9:54Speaker 4: in there and beat them just like they did Taylor
- 9:56Speaker 4: when the Hornets were on their run and Miami went
- 9:58Speaker 4: in there and Tyler Hero had a huge game in
- 9:59Speaker 4: one Yeah, I could see that happening, and then I
- 10:01Speaker 4: could see Miami losing to Orlando in the next game.
- 10:04Speaker 4: But it is, it is pretty interesting. I think there'll
- 10:05Speaker 4: be a lot of eyes on this LaMelo Ball Konkok
- 10:08Speaker 4: Nipple duo tonight and we'll see what happens. But I'm
- 10:11Speaker 4: not like crazy excited about it. I would say that
- 10:14Speaker 4: Lasers one is actually a more interesting game.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Of the teams that are in the play in tournament,
- 10:19Speaker 1: is Charlotte the one team you could see getting out
- 10:22Speaker 1: of that tournament, getting into the playoffs and making some
- 10:24Speaker 1: sort of run. Or Charlotte can't do that.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Philly's in the play in, right, I think Philly is
- 10:29Speaker 4: probably the team that I could see making the deepest
- 10:31Speaker 4: run and if they're healthy and get out of the
- 10:32Speaker 4: play in. But no, I don't see the the experience,
- 10:38Speaker 4: the lack of experience just not being a problem. Like
- 10:41Speaker 4: I think LaMelo Ball in a playoff setting is gonna
- 10:44Speaker 4: have his lunch, you know, taken from him. Is that
- 10:47Speaker 4: the saying because I just don't think he's ready for
- 10:50Speaker 4: the type of defense you're gonna see from a team
- 10:52Speaker 4: that's prepared to play the same team, you know, four
- 10:55Speaker 4: to seven straight games.
- 10:57Speaker 1: What is the saying there?
- 11:01Speaker 3: Eat your lunch?
- 11:02Speaker 1: I don't know. I was I was looking at a
- 11:04Speaker 1: lunch money. Yeah, to take your lunch money.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I think from our era, it's take your lunch money, right.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I don't like take you lunch.
- 11:14Speaker 1: No, I've never said to someone or no one has
- 11:16Speaker 1: ever said to me, Hey, I'm taking your lunch money. Like,
- 11:19Speaker 1: I'm not that way, right, So how would you say it?
- 11:22Speaker 1: I understand what you were trying to say. I don't
- 11:24Speaker 1: think we got it right, though.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I just let's sitting in there for a little longer.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I love getting bogged down on semantics on important semantics.
- 11:35Speaker 3: H somebody's lunch. I'm looking it up right now.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I have to.
- 11:38Speaker 3: It's gonna drive you crazy all day.
- 11:39Speaker 4: I mean, taking someone's lunch from a workplace for it
- 11:42Speaker 4: is a severe violation.
- 11:44Speaker 6: I think it's eat someone's lunch, is it.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I think it's eat someone's lunch to.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Ask yes, to eat someone's lunch to outdo or defeat
- 11:52Speaker 4: someone or something very badly. Okay, eat someone's lunch, which
- 11:56Speaker 4: is not what I would have guessed to be honest.
- 11:58Speaker 3: That's got to be updated because there was not.
- 12:00Speaker 4: There were not people saying he's eating his lunch when
- 12:03Speaker 4: I was in tenth grade.
- 12:04Speaker 1: No, but maybe you ate him up for lunch. Maybe
- 12:06Speaker 1: that was right.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Again, I remember being a bully and taking someone's lunch money,
- 12:12Speaker 4: so I think it's different.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I don't know, right, you were never a bully, I mean,
- 12:15Speaker 1: come on.
- 12:18Speaker 4: You, Of all people, I got into one fight. Somebody
- 12:21Speaker 4: threw a punch.
- 12:22Speaker 3: It landed.
- 12:22Speaker 4: I was like, I don't like that, and then they
- 12:24Speaker 4: just separated us, and I was like, okay, that's the
- 12:26Speaker 4: last fight I'm gonna.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Get in to hit someone. Hit you you hit the floor.
- 12:30Speaker 4: I just I just thanked the lord that I had
- 12:33Speaker 4: people there to break up the fight.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Maybe, yes, so the play toward him it to be.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm railing against it. I know you love
- 12:43Speaker 1: the NBA and the NBA playoffs. I just don't see
- 12:45Speaker 1: the point of us having to wait a week to
- 12:47Speaker 1: see the real playoff teams play in actual series.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Well, the funny part is it was supposed to be
- 12:53Speaker 4: brought in to help limit tanking, right, because there's more
- 12:56Speaker 4: chances to make the postseason, so there's more teams that
- 12:59Speaker 4: are fighting to win, and yet it's created the largest
- 13:04Speaker 4: like sort of line of the delineation or whatever, because
- 13:07Speaker 4: the difference between the playing teams and the tankers are
- 13:10Speaker 4: just so obvious, like there's like there's more fifty five
- 13:14Speaker 4: lost teams than ever, and the teams that are in
- 13:17Speaker 4: tenth place, like the Miami Heat, feel like they accomplished
- 13:19Speaker 4: something when they would have been trying anyway, Like they
- 13:22Speaker 4: wouldn't have been tanking anyway, And so it did nothing
- 13:24Speaker 4: for tanking.
- 13:25Speaker 3: It actually made tanking worse.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Is Spoke gonna do this whole thing like he did
- 13:28Speaker 1: last year where they're packing for like a week or
- 13:30Speaker 1: two weeks or whatever. They have to pack their bags
- 13:32Speaker 1: and are coming home, They're going to make it to
- 13:34Speaker 1: the playoffs. Is going to do that again because it
- 13:36Speaker 1: worked last year.
- 13:38Speaker 4: I mean, we've talked about this before, like he doesn't
- 13:43Speaker 4: have the crazy on the roster, He's the only one
- 13:46Speaker 4: that provides the crazies.
- 13:47Speaker 3: So I just don't think any of those gimmis are
- 13:49Speaker 3: going to work.
- 13:50Speaker 4: They're gonna play the same soft basketball that they've played
- 13:53Speaker 4: the second half of the season, and they're probably gonna
- 13:55Speaker 4: get their asses handed to them.
- 13:56Speaker 3: They the win that they had.
- 13:58Speaker 4: In Charlotte, they played great, and Tyler Hero played great,
- 14:01Speaker 4: and LaMelo and Conkinipple didn't play great. I don't think
- 14:04Speaker 4: you're gonna get that type of same response from the
- 14:06Speaker 4: Hornets tonight.
- 14:07Speaker 6: All Right, A friend text me and was like, what
- 14:09Speaker 6: a massive night it is for you? And I'm trying
- 14:11Speaker 6: to think of my schedule. I'm like, I mean, the
- 14:13Speaker 6: Yankees have like a second game against the Angels. I
- 14:16Speaker 6: don't have any softball games or any intramural games. Why
- 14:19Speaker 6: is it such a big night for me? And he's like,
- 14:21Speaker 6: you were one of the first people that started championing
- 14:24Speaker 6: how good the Hornets were now and now they're in
- 14:28Speaker 6: the playing game, and I was like, Buddy, I don't
- 14:31Speaker 6: really care that much about it.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I just I was doing a thing. I was full time.
- 14:35Speaker 3: I was just right, that's gonna be the take that
- 14:38Speaker 3: sticks to you.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I don't think so, Taylor, You're in the clear. Not
- 14:41Speaker 1: a big game now, but for now, it's one of
- 14:43Speaker 1: his takes. Yes, it is a big night for Taylor.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Listen.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Whether he meant it or not, Lord knows. I have
- 14:47Speaker 1: said a million things on the radio over twenty years
- 14:50Speaker 1: of doing this, and I have commented on games that
- 14:52Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck about.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Is he?
- 14:54Speaker 1: I am telling you that right now. But those takes
- 14:56Speaker 1: stick to you. And I was doing it in the
- 14:58Speaker 1: spirit of just filling time, just because I had to
- 15:01Speaker 1: say stuff, just because it was someone threw me the
- 15:04Speaker 1: ball and I needed to say something and something came
- 15:07Speaker 1: out of my mouth, and whatever it was, it stuck
- 15:09Speaker 1: with me forever. And so like Kevin Durant, now what
- 15:12Speaker 1: he titles, I mean.
- 15:14Speaker 3: So is he?
- 15:15Speaker 6: I believe. In early February, we had Bomani Jones on
- 15:18Speaker 6: and I asked, Baumani, Bomani, are the Hornets going for it?
- 15:23Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:23Speaker 6: And he he laughed me out of this podcast. Then
- 15:28Speaker 6: like three weeks later, the Hornets kept winning and I
- 15:31Speaker 6: turn on the right time with Bomani Jones and what
- 15:34Speaker 6: do I see Bomani leading with him saying he believes
- 15:38Speaker 6: the Charlotte Hornets are actually pretty good.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Ah did credit you?
- 15:42Speaker 1: I mean.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Going for it.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So it's a big night for Bomani as well.
- 15:52Speaker 3: I mean, dude, I will say this, it does.
- 15:57Speaker 4: The matchups that it would set up would be pretty good.
- 16:01Speaker 4: The sixer Celtics if that happens in the first round,
- 16:04Speaker 4: that's a classic rivalry. And it is in Philadelphia that
- 16:07Speaker 4: when they're healthy, they're going to scare their shit out
- 16:10Speaker 4: of everybody they play, and that includes the Celtics in
- 16:12Speaker 4: the first round. And then, assuming the Hornets can win,
- 16:17Speaker 4: Hornets Detroit is a great first round matchup because people
- 16:19Speaker 4: are gonna think, hey, those pistons might not be sharp,
- 16:22Speaker 4: Kate Cunningham coming back from collapsed lung. Maybe America's team
- 16:26Speaker 4: can win that. And then in the West, I don't
- 16:29Speaker 4: know which one you like better. The idea of the
- 16:32Speaker 4: Oklahoma City Thunder playing against the Clippers and Shay Gildas
- 16:35Speaker 4: Alexander's old team and the guy basically in Kawhi Leonard
- 16:38Speaker 4: that started alation.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Or against the Warriors.
- 16:42Speaker 4: You know that history between the Thunder and the war
- 16:44Speaker 4: and now you have a healthy Steph Curry like that.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Those are going to be two pretty great one to
- 16:48Speaker 4: eight matchups if they end up that way. Oklahoma City
- 16:51Speaker 4: against either of those two teams, and then the Detroit
- 16:53Speaker 4: Pistons against the Charlotte Hornets.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Cross your fingers that those are the matchups that happened.
- 16:57Speaker 1: So Taylor, let's say it right now. You need to
- 16:59Speaker 1: get ahead of Amani Jones because he's onto you. Okay,
- 17:02Speaker 1: so you need to say that Charlotte, if you dare
- 17:04Speaker 1: let them into the playoffs, they are going to beat
- 17:06Speaker 1: the Pistons in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I'm with you, I'm behind you. I have the Hornets
- 17:12Speaker 1: in six games. Okay.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Wow, let's get Taylor giving a big Charlotte Hornets take
- 17:17Speaker 4: on the radio, right, making sure he gets that, say
- 17:19Speaker 4: they're gonna get past the first round.
- 17:21Speaker 3: We send that to Bow and then we wait.
- 17:24Speaker 4: He waits to see him Bo decides he's gonna steal
- 17:26Speaker 4: that take, or he's gonna take it a step further.
- 17:28Speaker 3: If he ignored it out together.
- 17:29Speaker 1: He's so much better and smarter than us had all
- 17:32Speaker 1: of this that he's gonna win. It doesn't matter. He's
- 17:34Speaker 1: just gonna win. I mean, he's Bomani. He's the best
- 17:36Speaker 1: we have in our industry. He wins, he has them
- 17:40Speaker 1: winning the title. He already took it.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I mean, yet he's stealing takes from Taylor.
- 17:43Speaker 6: No, I don't want to say. I would never accuse
- 17:46Speaker 6: Bomani of that. And if Bomani wanted to steal a
- 17:49Speaker 6: take from me, I wouldn't even consider it stealing. I
- 17:53Speaker 6: would consider it. You be honored, yes, gift. Yes, anybody
- 17:56Speaker 6: who comes on these podcasts if they want one of
- 17:58Speaker 6: my takes, more happy to give one of my takes
- 18:01Speaker 6: to them.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Right, But Bamani stealing it makes it very very special.
- 18:04Speaker 6: Not stealing, not stealing.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yeah, we heard what you said, but Bamani taking it.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I called him a thief. No one else but Bamani
- 18:12Speaker 1: taking your take and using it it is. It's an honor. Right.
- 18:16Speaker 3: You don't want me taking your take and using it.
- 18:18Speaker 3: That's not an honor.

- 20:22Speaker 1: playing game for the Blazers today game Damon, I am
- 20:29Speaker 1: teas and he is with us because a new documentary
- 20:32Speaker 1: is coming out today on Netflix. Untold Jail Blazers. Very
- 20:36Speaker 1: excited to watch this documentary. Very excited to talk to
- 20:40Speaker 1: Damon Stodameier about this documentary is He started by saying,
- 20:44Speaker 1: you're the rare NBA player that never ages. What is
- 20:47Speaker 1: the key to not aging?
- 20:48Speaker 8: I mean, Jesus, you know you gonna get gray.
- 20:54Speaker 5: So I got a little gray.
- 20:55Speaker 8: But just stay stress free, you know, try to keep
- 20:59Speaker 8: life asad whereas you can't. Let look, keep life way
- 21:02Speaker 8: simpler than what I did way back then when this
- 21:05Speaker 8: documentary come out?
- 21:08Speaker 1: How did this documentary come together? Sammon?
- 21:12Speaker 8: It's been in the works for for years, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 8: and it finally came to And I think, like I
- 21:20Speaker 8: always say, like, you know, and you know everybody, I
- 21:23Speaker 8: should say everybody, but you know, in talking with the fellas,
- 21:27Speaker 8: you know, they didn't they didn't want to put everybody
- 21:32Speaker 8: on the documentary that actually I felt like needed to
- 21:35Speaker 8: be on the documentary. But I was like, in order
- 21:38Speaker 8: for something to be seen from both sides, you got
- 21:41Speaker 8: to have an antagonist and protagonist. And that's just kind
- 21:43Speaker 8: of the way it is. So you know, the people
- 21:47Speaker 8: that were on on the on the doc you know, uh,
- 21:50Speaker 8: the John Gonzano, you know Colin Cowhard who was actually
- 21:56Speaker 8: you know, most people wouldn't notice he he was reporting
- 21:59Speaker 8: in Portland before he actually took off, took off and
- 22:03Speaker 8: became who he became. And so you know, then you
- 22:07Speaker 8: have Bob witst Bob Witson is on there, and he's
- 22:10Speaker 8: kind of talking about you know, uh his you know,
- 22:14Speaker 8: his thoughts in this process of trying to put the
- 22:17Speaker 8: team together and how he built it, uh, from when
- 22:19Speaker 8: he took from when he took the job.
- 22:21Speaker 5: And he'll talk about those things.
- 22:22Speaker 8: And it's funny because when you see the documentary, I
- 22:26Speaker 8: will I won't say who it is, but it's going
- 22:29Speaker 8: to be interesting if people when the when the documentary
- 22:32Speaker 8: first opens up, if people will understand the guy in
- 22:36Speaker 8: the frame because he does not have hair now and
- 22:41Speaker 8: so and and and he and he is a owner
- 22:44Speaker 8: of an NBA team not named not named Paul Allen.
- 22:50Speaker 8: Then so it's gonna be interesting that people catch on
- 22:53Speaker 8: to that, really because if you catch on to it,
- 22:55Speaker 8: you're gonna be like, yeah, okay, now now, but yeah,
- 23:01Speaker 8: so no, it's so you know that that was that
- 23:04Speaker 8: was the thought process and everything, and so you know,
- 23:07Speaker 8: I thought that it was I thought that it was
- 23:09Speaker 8: really well put together. I thought that it represented that moment,
- 23:12Speaker 8: and I thought they did a good job of keeping
- 23:15Speaker 8: the main thing, the main thing, and not getting off track,
- 23:17Speaker 8: but essentially talking about you know, some the issues, some
- 23:21Speaker 8: of the issues off the floor, but then framing the
- 23:23Speaker 8: team within that you know, four to five year window
- 23:26Speaker 8: from ninety nine to oh four, and you know, just
- 23:29Speaker 8: talking about that and how that window and you guys
- 23:31Speaker 8: know you keep up with sports obviously, you know, and.
- 23:34Speaker 5: You know how that window closes. Man.
- 23:35Speaker 8: People don't understand, I think the professional sports, how quickly
- 23:38Speaker 8: that window closes.
- 23:39Speaker 5: You have a window two, three, four years. Man.
- 23:41Speaker 8: If it don't happen, you gotta you gotta do some
- 23:43Speaker 8: other things. And Bob talks about that as well.
- 23:46Speaker 4: I'm excited to see it. Uh just comes out today.
- 23:48Speaker 4: I watched the lamar Odin one and it was spectacular.
- 23:51Speaker 4: That was another untold one. There have been some sports
- 23:54Speaker 4: documentaries in the past that aren't the best, so you're
- 23:56Speaker 4: obviously saying this one.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Seems pretty thorough and pretty fair. Is there anything missing?
- 24:01Speaker 4: Would you say, is there anything that you would have
- 24:02Speaker 4: liked to have been in there?
- 24:05Speaker 5: No, I just know I think that it. I think
- 24:07Speaker 5: that it just it.
- 24:09Speaker 8: The best thing to me is that again it's stuck
- 24:12Speaker 8: to the main the main thing.
- 24:16Speaker 5: You know and and and it and it, and I
- 24:18Speaker 5: think that it.
- 24:19Speaker 8: Really will fill in the blanks for a lot of
- 24:21Speaker 8: people from from across the country that maybe wanted to know, man,
- 24:26Speaker 8: what was going on in Portland at that time, because
- 24:28Speaker 8: obviously there was that wasn't social media. Uh We're we're
- 24:32Speaker 8: a one we were a one paper town. Uh, we
- 24:36Speaker 8: were a one you know, a one radio station town
- 24:40Speaker 8: at that time. And so from from people like yourselves
- 24:44Speaker 8: who are picking this up, you know, you're only seeing
- 24:46Speaker 8: it and hearing it from one perspective. But what happens
- 24:50Speaker 8: is right, is a lot of times that even when
- 24:52Speaker 8: guys had moved on, you know, and went to different teams,
- 24:56Speaker 8: you know, as you got to know those guys, and
- 24:59Speaker 8: even myself and Rashid and bond to everybody else that
- 25:01Speaker 8: moved on, you know, you you you find out the
- 25:04Speaker 8: guys weren't what it was portrayed. And I just think
- 25:07Speaker 8: that the biggest thing about the documentary is just remember
- 25:10Speaker 8: the setting. You're talking twenty plus years ago, you're talking
- 25:14Speaker 8: a different time.
- 25:15Speaker 5: You're talking about even Portland itself.
- 25:18Speaker 8: And I'm from Portland, and I think that, like my perspective,
- 25:21Speaker 8: I've always tried to give a perspective of Portland. You know,
- 25:25Speaker 8: I think even my perspective is is even different now
- 25:28Speaker 8: because the city has grown and it is different than
- 25:31Speaker 8: you know, obviously it was in the early two thousands.
- 25:34Speaker 4: You know what's weird, David is I graduated high school
- 25:37Speaker 4: ninety five. You and I similar age group, and so
- 25:40Speaker 4: I don't associate you with the quote unquote jail blazers
- 25:44Speaker 4: like or Rashid for that matter, because you know, once
- 25:47Speaker 4: you separate, like you separate the player from the activities
- 25:50Speaker 4: that were going on, it's it's like, Okay, I know
- 25:52Speaker 4: who these people are, but I'm curious. I know all
- 25:54Speaker 4: the issues weren't marijuana related, but if you were to
- 25:57Speaker 4: fast forward and say, the same team when it was
- 26:01Speaker 4: legal recreationally, would it be would we have the jail
- 26:04Speaker 4: blazers or would we have.
- 26:06Speaker 3: A couple of incidents on a team. I'm just curious.
- 26:09Speaker 5: No, it just would have been a couple of incidents
- 26:11Speaker 5: on the team.
- 26:12Speaker 8: And that's that's the perspective that I think that we,
- 26:15Speaker 8: you know, we wanted to give off because I think
- 26:17Speaker 8: you've seen young guys twenty four to twenty five and
- 26:20Speaker 8: twenty six, you know, growing up and now there's a
- 26:23Speaker 8: different perspective. I mean, I'm fifty two years old coaching,
- 26:27Speaker 8: doing different things, but it's just there's a different, totally
- 26:29Speaker 8: different perspective.
- 26:30Speaker 5: So yeah, I do believe that. And I mean even.
- 26:34Speaker 8: Now in the evaluation of players, you know, when you're
- 26:40Speaker 8: trying to figure out what's what about guys, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 8: the talk of marijuana isn't the.
- 26:48Speaker 5: Same, you know, and I think that it's legal. Well, yeah, yeah,
- 26:52Speaker 5: it isn't. It isn't the same.
- 26:54Speaker 8: But I think that, you know, for a guy like myself,
- 26:57Speaker 8: he put me in such a pigeonhole at that time,
- 27:00Speaker 8: it kind of it kind of spooked me.
- 27:03Speaker 5: So for me, it's like, you know.
- 27:06Speaker 8: I'm telling you, at that last time, I put it
- 27:09Speaker 8: down and never looked back. Because for me, getting into
- 27:13Speaker 8: the troubles that I was getting into at that time
- 27:17Speaker 8: and the ridicule that I was taking, I was like, man,
- 27:19Speaker 8: it kind of it didn't kill my career, but what
- 27:23Speaker 8: I say, it turnished my reputation at that time.
- 27:25Speaker 5: So I think that you.
- 27:26Speaker 8: Were viewed a little differently, And you know, for me,
- 27:30Speaker 8: that wasn't how I wanted to beat you.
- 27:33Speaker 1: So untold jail Blazers premieeres tonight on Netflix. When you
- 27:37Speaker 1: were going through it, dam and what was the most
- 27:38Speaker 1: unfair thing that was said, reported, talked about, discussed as
- 27:42Speaker 1: it related to your team.
- 27:45Speaker 8: Well, I thought the headline itself. You know, for me,
- 27:49Speaker 8: I thought it was disrespectful. I've said it a lot
- 27:53Speaker 8: because I never really talked about Honestly, I never talked
- 27:55Speaker 8: about my time with Portland because I.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Never wanted to disrespect that, you know, the city.
- 28:02Speaker 8: I never wanted to disrespect the organization, you know, in
- 28:06Speaker 8: terms of you know.
- 28:07Speaker 5: How I might have portrayed and how I might have felt.
- 28:10Speaker 8: But as I've gotten older, you get you get a more,
- 28:13Speaker 8: you get more of a perspective on what's really what
- 28:15Speaker 8: it really is, right and so uh and talking about
- 28:19Speaker 8: what was going on. I just thought the headline was
- 28:22Speaker 8: unfair because we didn't if we're going to talk about that,
- 28:25Speaker 8: and you know, speaking for me, you know, we're going
- 28:27Speaker 8: to talk about my hiccups because I had them, and
- 28:30Speaker 8: so I'm not gonna hide from them. Let's talk about
- 28:33Speaker 8: the positive that I was also doing in the community
- 28:36Speaker 8: where I grew up in And so that was for me.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Hurt for a bit.
- 28:42Speaker 8: But then I felt like you lumped a group of
- 28:44Speaker 8: guys in that that in certain cases didn't do anything.
- 28:50Speaker 5: So you can't just lump a group of guys.
- 28:52Speaker 8: In and and and give a moniker to it and
- 28:55Speaker 8: they not you know, and and and and make them
- 28:59Speaker 8: portrayed them as the same as everyone else. And so
- 29:01Speaker 8: I just thought that that perspective, of that perspective on it,
- 29:06Speaker 8: you know, was disrespectful.
- 29:08Speaker 6: Damon, I'm a Carolina guy. What was Rashid Wallace like
- 29:11Speaker 6: as a teammate?
- 29:13Speaker 1: Awesome?
- 29:14Speaker 5: Yes, he's one of my one of my favorite, one
- 29:16Speaker 5: of my.
- 29:17Speaker 8: Favorite teammates ever, if not my my favorite. You know
- 29:22Speaker 8: what's funny is is as I as I went through
- 29:25Speaker 8: the NBA and even talking to people now, Rashid Wallace
- 29:29Speaker 8: was probably one of you think about this and what
- 29:31Speaker 8: I'm about to say, for most for most teams in
- 29:34Speaker 8: the NBA during that time, he was the missing piece
- 29:39Speaker 8: for probably everybody's team to be in a championship contention, right,
- 29:45Speaker 8: And I think that I think that the thing about
- 29:48Speaker 8: Rashid that made him such a great teammate was that,
- 29:52Speaker 8: you know, he he he fought for his for his guys.
- 29:56Speaker 8: He fought for his guys in the locker room. He
- 29:58Speaker 8: never felt like he never felt like we needed more.
- 30:02Speaker 8: You know, he always felt like we can get it
- 30:04Speaker 8: done with us in the locker room. And as a
- 30:06Speaker 8: teammate and being the best player, you know, you need
- 30:09Speaker 8: that positivity. And I always say, you know, you know
- 30:14Speaker 8: when I look at when I look at him, when
- 30:17Speaker 8: I look at him, and I look when he went
- 30:19Speaker 8: to Detroit for instance, you know, and you've seen what
- 30:23Speaker 8: he brought to that team. Again, he was the missing piece.
- 30:28Speaker 8: But everything that he was, everything that he was ridiculed for,
- 30:33Speaker 8: it became the mantra when he went to Detroit. So
- 30:37Speaker 8: it was almost like he went to the perfect situation
- 30:40Speaker 8: for who he was as a as a player and
- 30:42Speaker 8: a person at that time.
- 30:43Speaker 4: That's why I say I don't associate even him with
- 30:46Speaker 4: the jail Blazers, because you know, when you got to Detroit,
- 30:49Speaker 4: you read like I always thought of him as a
- 30:51Speaker 4: basketball nerd, like a basketball perfectionist. That's what ticked him
- 30:54Speaker 4: off if basketball wasn't played right. And I tell this
- 30:57Speaker 4: story a lot like it was before Game one of
- 31:00Speaker 4: the I want to say, two thousand and six NBA
- 31:03Speaker 4: Eastern Conference Finals, and a few reporters are sitting at
- 31:07Speaker 4: a sports bar restaurant, like the night before Game one,
- 31:10Speaker 4: it's like ten o'clock and you guys know Lisa Assaulters, right,
- 31:13Speaker 4: sideline reporter, She was there with us. And then like
- 31:15Speaker 4: at ten thirty in the evening, Rashid by himself shows
- 31:19Speaker 4: up sits next to Lisa because he just needed to.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Catch up with her.
- 31:22Speaker 4: And I was just like, that's really nice, like that.
- 31:25Speaker 4: You don't see that all the time, and like I
- 31:26Speaker 4: could when his big thing was against the referees, I'm like,
- 31:29Speaker 4: all right, you tell me the movie where people side
- 31:32Speaker 4: with the authority figure there is none right, everybody should
- 31:34Speaker 4: be on Rashid's side. So I feel like he might have,
- 31:37Speaker 4: you know, repaired his reputation after Portland.
- 31:41Speaker 8: No, yeah, no, I agree, you know, I just think that,
- 31:46Speaker 8: you know, just you think about this, right, And I've
- 31:50Speaker 8: talked I didn't talk about this and the doc, but
- 31:52Speaker 8: I talk about this to you guys because I've mentioned
- 31:55Speaker 8: it before. The year he led the NBA and technical fouls, right,
- 32:01Speaker 8: if I'm not mistaken, it was two thousand and two
- 32:03Speaker 8: thousand and one, and so when you look back on
- 32:06Speaker 8: that year that we had, we had the best record
- 32:11Speaker 8: in the NBA going into All Star Break. This is
- 32:14Speaker 8: the thing that people that don't talk about. I think
- 32:16Speaker 8: we were like just.
- 32:16Speaker 3: How talented were yes?
- 32:18Speaker 8: They yeah, we were like we were like forty one
- 32:21Speaker 8: and eight, right, And so what ended up happening was that,
- 32:28Speaker 8: you know, we we added a couple pieces and then
- 32:32Speaker 8: we ended up losing fifteen out of seventeen games. And
- 32:38Speaker 8: so when he was getting those technicals, I think that
- 32:41Speaker 8: we were more so spiraling as a team.
- 32:45Speaker 5: We didn't know who we were anymore.
- 32:47Speaker 8: As a team, Like it was falling apart right then
- 32:50Speaker 8: and there, because internally it wasn't the technicals is what.
- 32:53Speaker 5: The world seemed.
- 32:54Speaker 8: But what was going on inside was a lot of
- 32:57Speaker 8: friction and not understanding roles and differ different things. And
- 33:01Speaker 8: so I think that the crying out was the technicals,
- 33:04Speaker 8: and I think that nobody really understood that, you know,
- 33:07Speaker 8: and I don't you know, and it's never talked about.
- 33:09Speaker 8: We were like forty one and eight. Again, we were
- 33:11Speaker 8: we had to. I think we had the best record
- 33:13Speaker 8: NBA going in the All Star Break that year.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Damn it? Did Portland? Did the city? Did the fans
- 33:18Speaker 1: start to turn on your team? They embraced the team
- 33:21Speaker 1: early on, you guys were very good and talented team.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Eventually did that city kind of turn on the team?
- 33:28Speaker 8: Well, let's be honest, guys, like we can say, we
- 33:31Speaker 8: can say that, but the reality is we didn't win, right,
- 33:34Speaker 8: And so when you when you win, sometimes it don't
- 33:38Speaker 8: matter how you win as long as you win, right, Yes,
- 33:43Speaker 8: So so we didn't so as we didn't win, you know,
- 33:47Speaker 8: that's just kind of what happens. That that that just happens, right,
- 33:50Speaker 8: you start to see pieces leave the team, and so
- 33:54Speaker 8: I'm not going to say that the fans, you know,
- 33:57Speaker 8: just necessarily turned on the team. You know, what you
- 34:00Speaker 8: can say is that we weren't winning, so they quit
- 34:03Speaker 8: showing up because of what was happening with the team,
- 34:05Speaker 8: you know, And so you know, I think that that that.
- 34:09Speaker 5: Was more more of it than anything.
- 34:11Speaker 8: And so I don't think that, you know, I think
- 34:14Speaker 8: that they became mad at the at the player. They
- 34:17Speaker 8: were mad at the players, but then I think after
- 34:19Speaker 8: a while they became a little just disenchanted with the
- 34:22Speaker 8: with the people that were running the organization as well.
- 34:25Speaker 4: So, Devin, I want to ask you about your time
- 34:28Speaker 4: coaching before I get there. Uh, your first couple years
- 34:31Speaker 4: in Toronto put up a good amount of threes for
- 34:34Speaker 4: the time, Like I think it was maybe five or
- 34:35Speaker 4: six a game, and that not as much for the
- 34:38Speaker 4: rest of your career except for you know, one or
- 34:39Speaker 4: two seasons here there, if you were fifteen years younger,
- 34:43Speaker 4: you have what kind of numbers you're putting up in
- 34:45Speaker 4: the NBA today.
- 34:45Speaker 1: With all.
- 34:48Speaker 6: You know.
- 34:49Speaker 8: I always tried to listen. I always try to tell
- 34:52Speaker 8: I always try to tell myself I won't be a hater.
- 34:54Speaker 8: So I'm not gonna I'm not going to say without
- 34:57Speaker 8: what I would have done. But when I think about
- 35:00Speaker 8: when I think about how I played, it would have
- 35:02Speaker 8: been Taylor.
- 35:02Speaker 5: Made for this generation I do.
- 35:05Speaker 8: And you know, being able to play with the ball
- 35:09Speaker 8: or without the ball, I think that, you know, it
- 35:13Speaker 8: just it would have fit in what was going on
- 35:14Speaker 8: in today's basketball. You know, they're so they're so they're
- 35:19Speaker 8: so big. We're so big now on creating mismatches. We're
- 35:22Speaker 8: so big on guys who can drivele pass, and shoot,
- 35:25Speaker 8: and so if you can do those things, you can
- 35:28Speaker 8: have a lot of success.
- 35:29Speaker 5: In this here.
- 35:31Speaker 4: So, David, uh this is half a joke, But why
- 35:35Speaker 4: why do coaches hate the a CC now the.
- 35:39Speaker 8: Well, for me, I didn't win enough. So you know,
- 35:42Speaker 8: you know, listen, this is the crazy.
- 35:44Speaker 3: It all gets out to winning.
- 35:46Speaker 8: That everything everything comes down to winning, you know in
- 35:52Speaker 8: college now, uh, you gotta be able to win. You
- 35:57Speaker 8: gotta have uh, you gotta have support, and you got
- 36:01Speaker 8: to have money. And I think that that's what we're
- 36:05Speaker 8: seeing now. And and you know, guys are you know
- 36:09Speaker 8: now now you know that's people are talking.
- 36:12Speaker 5: They've been making a big deal out of it.
- 36:13Speaker 8: But if you think about the NCAA tournament, you know,
- 36:17Speaker 8: everybody's saying that it's hard for people to to uh
- 36:22Speaker 8: to mid majors, to upset teams.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Now, it's hard because you.
- 36:28Speaker 8: Know, the money aspect, you know, and you even look
- 36:30Speaker 8: at you know, Carolina, and Carolina lost in the first round,
- 36:34Speaker 8: but Carolina probably is not even a sixth seed if
- 36:37Speaker 8: Caleb Wilson isn't injured, right, and so him being injured
- 36:42Speaker 8: you know, cost them seeding and then they end up
- 36:45Speaker 8: losing that game or whatnot. But you know, it's just, uh,
- 36:48Speaker 8: you know, the dynamic of college is different, and so
- 36:52Speaker 8: I think that you you know, I honestly believe in
- 36:55Speaker 8: a lot of different ways, uh College is closer to
- 36:58Speaker 8: the NBA than ever, And I do believe that at
- 37:04Speaker 8: some point the guardrails and the rules need to be
- 37:08Speaker 8: similar to what to what the standards are in the NBA.
- 37:12Speaker 8: And you know, the one thing I would say is,
- 37:16Speaker 8: you know, even when I look at my situation this year, right,
- 37:19Speaker 8: you know, because we spiraled and we end up losing
- 37:22Speaker 8: twelve games in a row, but you know, the year before,
- 37:25Speaker 8: you know, we won ten conference games, we went to
- 37:28Speaker 8: the n I T. So the trajectory was fine. And
- 37:31Speaker 8: now you talk about I think, you know, when you
- 37:33Speaker 8: look at the NBA for instance, right, and you're talking
- 37:36Speaker 8: about the NBA, I've seen a statistic that was staggering,
- 37:40Speaker 8: and it was eight teams this year I think, lost
- 37:43Speaker 8: fifty five plus games. And so the only the only
- 37:48Speaker 8: reason I'm using that as analogy compared to where I'm
- 37:50Speaker 8: at for perspective for the people is that there has
- 37:54Speaker 8: to be a shared vision, because there can be years
- 37:57Speaker 8: of a.
- 37:58Speaker 5: One off regardless.
- 38:00Speaker 8: So the only reason that people can withstand fifty five
- 38:03Speaker 8: lost seasons in the NBA is because it's a shared vision.
- 38:07Speaker 8: So in certain instances, you might be expected to win
- 38:11Speaker 8: lose fifty five games because the team isn't ready to
- 38:13Speaker 8: win yet, so you're trying to find out who You're
- 38:15Speaker 8: trying to figure out who you're gonna keep, and who's
- 38:18Speaker 8: gonna beat up for the long haul who is and
- 38:20Speaker 8: how you make trades and how you don't make trades,
- 38:22Speaker 8: and so, you know, I think college is a lot
- 38:24Speaker 8: closer to that than than they want to believe. So
- 38:28Speaker 8: I think that for any coach, any head coach, it
- 38:31Speaker 8: doesn't matter, it always has to be a shared vision.
- 38:34Speaker 8: So everybody's on the same page. It's not the same
- 38:36Speaker 8: way as it used to be, you know. And and
- 38:39Speaker 8: I think that's the perspective that that I take from
- 38:42Speaker 8: this year, and even looking at what you just said,
- 38:46Speaker 8: a lot of the coaches, you know, the ACC A
- 38:49Speaker 8: lot of us were.
- 38:50Speaker 5: Let go and then uh, Will Wade, you know, he left.
- 38:55Speaker 8: So you know, that's my perspective, that's my that's what
- 38:58Speaker 8: I feel, and I think that's what's coming.
- 39:01Speaker 5: But we'll see.
- 39:02Speaker 8: But I do, I do believe that we're closer to
- 39:04Speaker 8: something of that then than we are anything else.
- 39:08Speaker 3: That makes sense.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Damn, we'll get you out of here in just a second.
- 39:11Speaker 1: What do you like about Will Wade.
- 39:14Speaker 5: Well, I like him because he's a straight shooter. You know,
- 39:18Speaker 5: I can live with that.
- 39:20Speaker 8: You know, as long as I as long as I
- 39:24Speaker 8: know what it is on the front end, I can
- 39:25Speaker 8: accept what it is on the back end.
- 39:27Speaker 5: And that's that's that's who he is.
- 39:29Speaker 8: And uh he's he's been successful and uh he knows
- 39:34Speaker 8: how to build and for me, uh going there, you know,
- 39:38Speaker 8: uh working with him, I'm looking forward to it. And uh,
- 39:43Speaker 8: you know again just just just someone just someone that
- 39:48Speaker 8: that that that I believe in. You know that that
- 39:52Speaker 8: I'm with. You know, that's that's the biggest key, because
- 39:55Speaker 8: you know, truth be told. Uh I wasn't coming back
- 39:58Speaker 8: to college. I wasn't, you know, I wasn't.
- 40:01Speaker 5: I was.
- 40:01Speaker 8: I was all right, well, I was all right with
- 40:04Speaker 8: with you know, just kind of seeing what was out there.
- 40:07Speaker 8: And I had been you know, going around visiting some
- 40:09Speaker 8: NBA teams and I had kind of locked in and
- 40:12Speaker 8: watched a lot more NBA games just kind of you know,
- 40:15Speaker 8: it's always trying to get a feel for what it
- 40:17Speaker 8: for what it looked like, and so you.
- 40:19Speaker 5: Know, I was just going wait for you know, kind
- 40:21Speaker 5: of wait for that cycle. But you know, his call
- 40:24Speaker 5: excited me.
- 40:26Speaker 8: And you know, I'm looking forward to to to getting
- 40:29Speaker 8: out to LSU and UH and helping him build and
- 40:33Speaker 8: and and and be successful throughout his journey.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Now, Damnon, we watched me and as he watched Arizona
- 40:40Speaker 1: in the sweet sixteen. We said the very next day
- 40:42Speaker 1: on the radio, that's the best fucking team in the country.
- 40:44Speaker 1: And then they played Michigan. What the hell happened? I mean,
- 40:47Speaker 1: we hadn't watched Michigan all year, so we didn't know
- 40:50Speaker 1: what the hell happened? Damon.
- 40:51Speaker 5: I mean, so I was so I went to the game,
- 40:54Speaker 5: you know.
- 40:54Speaker 8: So I was at the game, and you know, first
- 40:56Speaker 8: things first, you know, again, you know, maybe maybe it's
- 41:00Speaker 8: a different game, maybe it isn't, but you can't you
- 41:04Speaker 8: can't put two quick.
- 41:05Speaker 5: Fouls on on on Arizona.
- 41:08Speaker 8: Ja Jay and Bradley might not have been Arizona's best player,
- 41:11Speaker 8: but he was their most valuable player. He gets two fouls,
- 41:14Speaker 8: they put him back in and then he picks up
- 41:16Speaker 8: his third foul in the first half. You know, so
- 41:19Speaker 8: that that just makes it tough. You don't have your leader,
- 41:21Speaker 8: you don't have the guy that comes people down. I mean,
- 41:24Speaker 8: that's so important. In a game like that, and you know,
- 41:27Speaker 8: you've seen how well Candolt played for for for Michigan
- 41:31Speaker 8: in that in that game, and then we just you know,
- 41:33Speaker 8: they couldn't make a shot. You know, they couldn't make it.
- 41:36Speaker 8: And sometimes it's like that, you know, it's you know,
- 41:38Speaker 8: I'll say.
- 41:38Speaker 5: It now again. I didn't want to say. I'm like, man,
- 41:41Speaker 5: you know, I remember when I went to the Final four.
- 41:43Speaker 5: You know, play so well all season.
- 41:45Speaker 8: I get to I get to the I get to
- 41:47Speaker 8: the biggest stage and I shoot six for twenty four.
- 41:49Speaker 8: Now I was gonna keep. I was, I was gonna keep.
- 41:51Speaker 8: I was gonna keep shooting that thing. But but I
- 41:54Speaker 8: couldn't make nothing. And you know, Michigan they called a
- 41:56Speaker 8: Michigan team, and that was and what I would say,
- 41:59Speaker 8: what I would say, man.
- 42:01Speaker 5: Michigan is really good.
- 42:02Speaker 8: Like I didn't like, you know, it's one thing to
- 42:04Speaker 8: watch them on TV, but when I but when I
- 42:06Speaker 8: watched them in person, I was like, damn, they are
- 42:08Speaker 8: really good man.
- 42:09Speaker 5: They just didn't have a lot of flaws in that team.
- 42:12Speaker 8: You know, they had they had perimeter, they had inside
- 42:16Speaker 8: and and and they were they were just they were
- 42:19Speaker 8: on that on that day and as we've seen by
- 42:21Speaker 8: when national chemp, they just really good team.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Uh real quickly on the way out here. A shot
- 42:25Speaker 1: for your life. It's a game we play around here. Okay,
- 42:28Speaker 1: you have to choose one of these two guys. Your
- 42:29Speaker 1: life depends on them hitting this shot. Larry Bird Steph Curry.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Who you got three pointer for your life?
- 42:36Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 42:37Speaker 3: Yeah, you feel pretty good about either choice?
- 42:40Speaker 8: I think, yes, you you are you are you know,
- 42:43Speaker 8: you know, you know what I'm a Obviously we know
- 42:47Speaker 8: Steph Curry. So Steph Curry would probably make that shot.
- 42:51Speaker 8: But since I was, since I grew up on on
- 42:54Speaker 8: watching that Larry Magic, Michael and a dynamic.
- 42:58Speaker 3: All all I.
- 42:59Speaker 8: Remember is Larry Bird three point shooting contests, uh Chicago,
- 43:06Speaker 8: and he needed to make the whole rack of winning.
- 43:08Speaker 5: And he chat that last ball. He just put his
- 43:10Speaker 5: hand right up. Something go with Larry, but.
- 43:12Speaker 3: He turned his back walking.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Yes.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Yes, the bigger the stakes, the better chance he's going
- 43:18Speaker 4: to make that shot.
- 43:19Speaker 5: Yes, Yes, so good.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Untold Jail Blazers premieeres tonight on Netflix. I can't wait
- 43:24Speaker 1: to watch it. Damon, this has been a thrill for us.
- 43:27Speaker 1: One more time, if you like to promote the movie
- 43:28Speaker 1: on the way out, tell people why they should check
- 43:30Speaker 1: it out.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Well, check it out because it gives you a perspective.
- 43:34Speaker 8: Again, the biggest perspective is twofold, uh, the team that
- 43:39Speaker 8: was built between ninety nine and two thousand and four Bob,
- 43:42Speaker 8: which it talks a whole lot and how he wanted
- 43:44Speaker 8: to put that together, and then the off the court
- 43:47Speaker 8: issues that maybe were explained a little more in depth
- 43:50Speaker 8: and just see and you will see kind of kind
- 43:53Speaker 8: of the kind of what was actually going on in
- 43:55Speaker 8: the air that wasn't there was no social media.
- 43:58Speaker 1: All right. We'd also like to stend an invitation. It's
- 44:01Speaker 1: our first ever Coachella. We're doing it this year. You're
- 44:04Speaker 1: a coach Coach's Convention. If you would like to join
- 44:07Speaker 1: us for Coachella, feel free.
- 44:08Speaker 3: We'll have checking if we can have the name. We're
- 44:10Speaker 3: not sure. If we can have, we'll make you Master of.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Ceremonies if you like, you can see it if you want,
- 44:15Speaker 1: all right, all right, all right, right, thank you David. Alright,
- 44:20Speaker 1: all right, well we'll be in touch. Thank you, David.
- 44:23Speaker 1: We appreciate it. Good luck with the documentary. I can't
- 44:25Speaker 1: wait to see it.
- 44:25Speaker 5: Man, thank you, appreciating
