- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Which is the topic of just, I think, overarching like spirituality.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: And um, the person I have with me today is the founder of a lovely brand that is uh all about you know using fragrance and aromatherapy and just making you feel just better, you know, overall.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: So without further ado, I want to introduce you guys to the founder of Adora Therapy, Laura McCann.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the show, Laura.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: I'm so thrilled to be chatting with you.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Me too, Ecta.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: I've been listening to all the podcasts, and I knew this was going to be the most fun conversation.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: So I can't wait to get started.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, likewise, I have been waiting to chat with you.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: And uh everyone was saying we Laura and I were uh joking a little bit earlier before the before the show started about how uh it's been very difficult to get this episode um at this point.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: The comic flows have been keeping us apart, but we are here now.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: But well, I want to learn all about you and I want to learn all about your background and how you got into this um, you know, this area of beauty and wellness, and just if you could walk us down memory lane, that would be great.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: So what drew me to build a conscious beauty brand is that I was having health issues that were related to how I was using my physical and mental energy that got me to a point where I had to look for alternative paths.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: And the alternative paths led me to find out about things that it wasn't that I wasn't receptive, but I really wasn't on a journey of learning about vibrational energy and integrative medicine and healing journey.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: You know, these were all things that I was open to, but I was really open to them from a mental perspective, let's say.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: And what um happened and opened up was that there was this other layer, I'll call it a vibrational layer, in which the healing that I was searching for occurred.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: And that made me passionate about this.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: I really realized that a lot of um women, men too, um, who are maybe more like me, they're more rational, maybe science-driven, a little bit more pragmatic, not into either the quackery or the sort of woo-woo-ness of some of the things that relate to things like essential oils and aromatherapy.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: We're missing the opportunity to use these powerful botanicals that have all kinds of healing benefits, whether science agrees or not, and whether there are enough science-driven clinical trials to prove it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Um, I found that these tools, these powerful potent plants really help me on my journey to healing.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: And so I was passionate about the idea of finding a way to introduce them into the beauty and wellness market, having seen that if you went into any of the big retailers that we all shop, there was no shelf to find this category.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: So I had this kind of like aha moment, like why?
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And the why was I think that the language around how we communicate this needs to be simplified.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: And so that was my my desire and my mission, and why I got um passionate about uh building Adora Therapy.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: And you know, it's interesting you brought up um how science is not up to speed yet.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: And you know what I find to be so ironic is that I don't know uh if you've read much into um Amihotep um at all, or like the well, Amihotep was well, I guess one of the like pharaohs, like one of the original pharaohs, and he was known like the the founder of true medicine, he was the real father of medicine, and his work was is still preserved.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: And what's interesting is Amihotep, I mean he was phenomenal and he treated people that nowadays were like still dealing with these diseases, but he one of the things that he used were oils, you know, using this therapy of just you know this holistic approach, and you can read about it, you know, it's it's preserved literature from centuries, and also in futurism, there's you know, there's like the the Vedas and those physics and all of those texts I'm saying this, those are the original scripts of true medicine that we have as you know what I mean, and all of it, yeah, yeah, all of those people use the what's created here as well, you know what I mean, which is true like products that bring you into a holistic way of thinking and feeling and and feeling, you know what I mean?
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Like it's literally yeah, yeah, I think you're absolutely right.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, it's it's a challenging thing.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Like I consider myself to be, you know, as a consumer of beauty products, I'm open to reading about things, listening to podcasts.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: I want to have um an understanding of what the benefits are.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I do like a science approach, but I'll try different things based on even some marketing language if I feel that it's meeting a benefit that I'm looking for.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: But ultimately, I'll make a decision immediately once I use a product, whether or not it's bringing me a tangible, tangible benefit.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: What was so interesting when I first was introduced to aromatherapy is I had no idea how to use it.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And so I bought beautiful products or I was given beautiful products.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: And my initial um foray into the business was the woman who created these beautiful blends, who was a healer, who is a healer and an aromatherapist, introduced me to them.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: And I had a collection of chakra oils, and I just had no idea what to do with them.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: So they just sat there and I looked at them for a very long time.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: And part of it was because explaining these ideas in a context of modern day language around beauty is gonna fall short.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: And same thing with wellness, because wellness is often described as a journey of self-care.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: But for me, um, aromatherapy as a language of healing is really about adoring yourself, which is part of why the company's named Adoratherapy, also because it's a play on the word aromatherapy.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: But that idea that when you really understand that you're your own healer and that you can with um a breath, an intention, a hack, which might be the product, um, whether you believe it works or not.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: I do believe it works, and we'll get into that.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Um, this can be something that transforms you in the moment and having the power to address things like stress and anxiety, um, feeling good, feeling grounded, feeling motivated, feeling clear, being able to speak, right?
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Like we talked about, you use some chakra oils when you started.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: These are all things that we all want.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: And I believe that um the energy and vibration of certain botanicals allows us to tap into that.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: I absolutely agree with you.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: I think it's a it's you know, it's so much deeper than people are willing to give it credit.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: You know, I really detest um when I look back on, you know, my college days, which is when I was very like uh interested in the you know, they call it quote metaphysical, but I genuinely hate that uh you know label.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Like I will I could go into a whole episode about just that topic, but like honestly, like I that's what they were called back then, you know, metaphysical stores.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: There were the little store, you know what I mean?
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Like oh yeah.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: And I felt like I kid you not, I used to feel the most grounded and at home in those places.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: I used to seek them out wherever I was for college, wherever I was studying or training, because when you went into a store like that, usually they used to have a reike person that was in the back room or a chair leader or you know what I mean?
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: There was incense, there were just beautiful scents all around you that made that reminded you of Earth.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, let's be real, that's just Earth, you know.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: I I'm like you.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: I, you know, I went to school in New York, I went to Parsons School of Design, and back when I was in school, there was an East-West bookstore down in Union Square area where Parsons is, and I would spend hours in that store and you know, trying to understand myself, personal transformation through some of those types of um books.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: And back in the day, I don't even think the self-help category existed.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: So where you got your self-help language was from these kinds of older uh, you know, yogi, yogi information, meditation, you know, like you said, ancient texts, ancient rituals that aren't from our culture also.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I'm very sensitive to the fact that, you know, some of these things culturally are appropriated, but at the same time, it's so important to understand that it's still one universe, one world, and we can borrow from certain practices and methods if we feel like it's going to create a more integrated, you know, human, you know, consciousness.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of where, you know, I feel this this goes.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: But I agree.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Um, and if you go into the beauty stores, and this is something why I laugh to myself, because you still walk into those beauty stores and there is maybe a clean perfume section, and there may be an essential oil section where you can buy oils to put in a diffuser, but that is not what we're talking about.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: We're talking about aromatherapy and we're talking about um healing.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: And that section, whether it's your skin, right?
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Whether it's your gut biome, like your episode last week, um, these are all things that need to heal.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: And, you know, the definition of healing is there's something, you know, if it's medical, if you're looking at the medical definition of healing, you know, it's all about, you know, maybe that you have a cut or an injury and something's gonna make it heal.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: So you're gonna get rid of inflammation and infection.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: But there's also a spiritual definition of healing, right?
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Which is to really be able to improve yourself.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: And so healing is what I think we're all seeking, and it's at many different layers from the skin all the way inside.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: And you know what's it's crazy because we we talk about healing, we talk about health, wellness, all these different words for just one word, and the word is homeostasis.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: That's a whole epitome of health.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Like when your body, every cell in your body is in homeostasis, that means it's healthy, it's not riddled with any kind of disease, there's no misprogramming going on, so there's no cancers.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: You know, that's the idea that we're all seeking.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: And I just don't understand why we have um forsaken these, you know, you brought up uh cultural appropriation, and I'm very I have a it's a very good topic to bring up because I think that I I love to see brands such as yours, and I'm from that culture, right?
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: I love to see it because you're spreading something that is so worth letting everybody know about, you know what I mean?
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: Like ideas and concepts, and you have the guts to actually do it versus the people that are actually in that culture sometimes, and they won't they won't have the guts to start a business and to get the word out of what these rituals are because they're so powerful, you know.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: So I applaud you for what you do.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: I think it's a wonderful thing to spread this, you know, just the awareness that we've had this knowledge, we know how to apply it, we understand it, you know, chakras, for example.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: How many years for everyone listening, for all especially the millennials out there, how many years have you guys been hearing the word chakra?
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: And how many of you actually know what that means?
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: You know, like really, you don't, right?
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: And it's if it wouldn't be so for a lot of us if they didn't have, like, for example, the stores that I was telling you about, or the entrepreneurs that you know really were, they were from the West, but guess what?
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: They brought over a lot of the teachings, like you said, of the yogis, you know, of the older times, and they brought over they brought that knowledge and translated it into the universal language, which is English.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: And that and that is a beautiful thing.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: And I think that when it comes to health, wellness, and just you know, this kind of concept of you know, using what we have around us to truly come back to homeostasis, that spreading of that knowledge is so powerful that I've seen it literally not only transform my life because I got into, you know, I told you I got into spirituality and stuff, and all of this stuff really came in that realm.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: But you know, when I started really exploring these little things, these the thing of you know, the aspect of rhomotherapy, the idea of you know, understanding what these words mean that led me down a path.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: It was like the beginning steps of finding what self-help and self-wellness really meant.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: Like I, you know, I learned about Wade Dyer and Abraham Hicks, and you know, that all of that came after I did this.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: So it's like a stepping stone.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: That's how I see it.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: It's a stepping stone.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: It is, and my journey's been similar.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: You know, a lot of times we get to an understanding of our true self through pain.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Some people are fortunate enough, maybe if they're uh monks and in prayer all day, they can get there through some kind of beautiful awakening.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: But most of us move towards the things we need because we don't have them.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: It's not because we have them, right?
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: That's sort of like how we're wired as humans.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: What's interesting, and again, I love talking science with you is you know, we have and we have a store in Asheville, North Carolina.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: So we're a retailer, we sell online, we sell wholesale, but primarily the store which we opened two years ago has been an incredible RD lab for us.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: So we're not scientists, but in a way, we're still doing the research on how to get this across and to also for me validate the understanding that I have.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: So one of the things we do is we have an Aura photography studio, and we use a software that was developed in a research lab at UCLA by a famous um researcher named Valerie Hunt.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: And she developed this software.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: It's commercial software, so it's used kind of for entertainment, but it was actually developed for a medical research theory around measuring people's energy and understanding the chaotic patterns of energy and how they translate to health and well-being.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: So think of it like an EKG for your mind, body, spirit.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: So we started with this software and we thought this is great because Aura photos are cool, and we'll do Aura photos.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: The software also includes a reading of your chakras.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: So when we initially started and we did our first couple hundred, obviously we were learning.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: It didn't come with like a how to use this in your business, but we paired this with aromatherapy because once we saw people's chakras and they were represented by like a numerical value, uh one to a 10, let's say for each chakra, you could see a pattern.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: It's like a graph, right?
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Up, down, balance, not balance.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Why is the root low?
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Why is the heart low?
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Why is the third eye high?
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Why is the crown low?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Things like that.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: We started to really look into what was going on.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And anecdotally, by asking people what was going on, we started to learn why they were holding energy, why they had the pattern that they had, what was going on with them.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: And then we paired that with them smelling all of our chakra oils.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: And basically think of it like muscle testing, but with your nose.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: And muscle testing is also kind of a scientific thing that maybe some people believe in or don't believe in it.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: You know, it's the idea that if you're holding something in your hand that is either good or bad for you, and you kind of push down on your hand, your muscle will either be supporting it or you can push the hand all the way down.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: With the nose, it's quite different.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: With the nose, what happens is you breathe in something, let's say sandalwood or patrole or ginger.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: And if you don't like it or you can't smell it, 95% of the time the root chakra is low.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: And we found this correlation.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: And so it's kind of like this.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: If you don't like spinach, maybe you don't get iron and you need a supplement.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: But how do you test your chakras?
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: How do you know?
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: So that's one of the things when you're using very pure therapeutic grade oils, not you know, junky stuff, not the stuff that you might want to put into a diffuser.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: It's vibrational and either your vibration matches it or it doesn't.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: When they match, they unlock and you get the maximum from it.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: If not, it's like all the things you talk about with skin.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: It doesn't absorb, it doesn't do what it needs to do, and you basically aren't getting it.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: So this is fascinating to me.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: I'm learning so much and I'm loving, you know, collecting all this data and trying to teach this as a way to, you know, have leverage on your day, right?
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Because I don't have time every day to go do yoga or meditate or do all the things I say I want to do.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: But I think I can be kind to myself and know that if I take a deep breath that's intentional with the beautiful oil for the specific energy I'm looking to heal or support or balance, I actually have done the work and I can tap myself on the back and adore myself and be, you know, get on with the day feeling great.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: And you know, I love that.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: I love that you brought up the imaging because that is something that I'm very passionate about.
- 18:00SPEAKER_02: I have been a huge believer in the power of neuroimaging and you know, um, anything rel related to um activity that is very, very difficult to see in you know, other organs.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: And I think that you know, neuroimaging is something that I first came across it, you know, through this, uh I've mentioned him before on the podcast, but there was a psychiatrist who had studied all sorts of diseases, you know, and what he was doing is you know, utilizing neuroimagery with the actual diagnosing of certain thers.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: So that was really cool.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: But when it comes to or like aura, you know, um just looking at that through imaging and looking through you know, looking at what we're emitting is a very powerful and you know, cutting-edge concept because I remember when I don't know if you've read Bruce Lipton's book, Biology of Belief, but Bruce said this great thing.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Dr.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Lipton said, you know, I don't believe that the mind is contained within the brain.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: I think the mind is like a magnetic field around around the anatomical brain, and that's why we can't pick point it neurologically.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: And I remember hearing that quote, and I was like, that's brilliant.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Like it's so, you know, because if you think about the amount of capacity that the energetic level, it's very different than the capacity to have on an anatomical level.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: So that that amount of like, where does our power of our willpower come from?
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Where does our keep going come from?
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Or you know, like you're tired anatomically, can you still physically get up and do something?
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: Those are all concepts that we overlook every single day, but we it really comes back to what you're talking about, which is the energy of a human being.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: And that's why I really think this ties into health, because when we are able to do that, think about how much healing we could possibly do if we just aligned our bodies and our energies and both of those worlds come together in you know in synchrony.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: It's really a true concept, and I wish people would stop labeling it.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: I hate it when people label it as this long rewired thing, you know.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I hear you, I hear you.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: But you know, I think it's like anything.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Think of it as the things that are allowing us to um free ourselves, let's say, from a construct that may not be a construct in which we have total freedom, let's call it free will, are constructs that we're all trying to deconstruct at every level.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: And having ownership of our own uh body and our own health is something that obviously is counterculture and it's not really uh something that maybe business and big industry wants or even spiritual industries want um because they want to be the conduit.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm very clear.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Like in our products, I always say I'm a life coach in a bottle.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: And the reason for that is that I I do understand that any belief is a belief.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: So you can choose a belief, but that's a belief.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: So there's gonna be a million beliefs, and that's fine.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Everybody can believe.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: But if you want to believe in something, believe in something that's gonna actually support you instead of something that's gonna take you down.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: And in this case, what I'm, I guess, um uh I don't want to say pushing, but my agenda is believe in something that's going to make you the healer.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: And we're just going to give you the right ingredients.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: But in the end, you're the most important ingredient because if you're not gonna do the work, you're not gonna do your healing, you're not gonna have the positive thoughts, you're not gonna take the breath, you're not gonna use the product, then forget it.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: We can't really help you, but you can help you.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: And so that's the idea is this idea of a practice or a ritual that can connect you with yourself and your breath.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: And I think during COVID, we saw this so much more than any other time because for the first time, people wore masks, they couldn't breathe.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: So when they took the mask off, they really realized hey, that breath is so important to my well being.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: But what are you breathing every day?
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Why don't you choose to breathe in things that are going to heal you.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: You do all these other things, exercise, put things on your skin, eat right, take your supplements, you know, do your workout, go into fresh air, but then you know you may not be taking care of your nose, right?
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Your nose is something also very important.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: And then the connection of the you know neural pathways of the nose to the limbic brain, which is the other part.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: So you're basically working on your brain when you're inhaling essential oils.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: And there's we don't know enough about the olfactory system as it is.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: So if you don't even try, we're not gonna ever create enough data to actually get anywhere.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: You know I always tell people if there's anything you do in your life, generate data.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: For real.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: I had this on my other account why call a brown girl I literally tell people if you will be if you choose to be the most annoyingly like idle person on the planet that's fine.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: Just generate data for something because the more we know the more closer we're gonna get and you're absolutely right we don't know enough about the limbic system.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: We don't know how the old factor system is tied to things like you know the most common thing that comes up is memories, right?
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: We don't understand that whole pathway.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: We don't understand even in the nose itself the different receptors you know I remember when we were studying you know neuronal anatomy like the nose was one of the areas where literally our professors were like we're gonna just learn like five concepts here and then we're gonna keep it moving and I was like okay so we don't know anything about this you know so it's a very important thing what you said which is if you're gonna do something and if you're gonna inhale and then breathe something that centers you breathe something that that adds value to your day to your moment you know and those moments will add up to a great day you know and it's really all tied together.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: It's not pokey whatever people think it's it's real science like you know and I and that's what I love about your brand is that I think that it's something you know you know how some brands like that are based on like essential oils or whatnot they're just too strong.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Like I don't think get I don't think the aroma is off it's just that you're you're there's a balance of what you should smell it.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: And I love I absolutely love I was gonna tell you the rollers um I have two rollers well I have three of them but the two that I love um is well one of them is the one I use today which is the uh I speak fifth chakra anyone listening if you're exploring the website right now you know definitely buy this one but I the reason I love it is because I keep it in my purse because it's a roller so if I go anywhere if I'm doing something I mean even just try it you know put it on like your wrists or your pulse points before you go into a meeting or if you're about to speak about something or if you're about to give a lecture or whatever it is or meet a friend.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Try it you know and see how it makes you feel and ground yourself a little bit you know the other one I love is a chakra too which is a bigger bottle of oil.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Oh my god I love that it's it's like literally in the front of my perfume collection because I use it every morning I put it on and the reason you know this is where I I love that we're we're having this conversation on a Friday and it's fragrance Friday because that's the whole idea of any type of fragrance right whether it's an essential oil or a smell you pick up when you're going outside for a walk any kind of you know aroma that comes into you and you know gravitates it's it's it's gonna change you for a second.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: It is and that's the power of scent.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: And so like you know my whole point is utilize things for what they're meant for.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: And I really really love that about your brand because it made it very easy to understand you know for everyone listening when you purchase the product they've got I mean it explains the chakra right on the box.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: So even if you're somebody who knows nothing about it, you know what I mean you can easily understand that this is what this product is is intended to elevate you know so I really really love that.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: I love how you've done it and your branding that's my point.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: So it was very hard I have to say it's been a labor of love because getting to what it is and explaining it simply and like I said I wanted to move it out of sort of the the metaphysical store and the wellness store into the beauty category.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: So envisioning on a shelf in a beauty store was key and understanding how packaging could help and the wording could help and then making it a toolkit so it could be a self-serve thing.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: You didn't need somebody to explain it.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: Now I do feel the product still can require education.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: So for people who want more you know we on the website make sure that they can find all the information they want, including complete ingredient transparency, which by the way when you buy fragrance it tells you that there's a fragrance and it doesn't tell you what it is.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Maybe you know that it has top notes of this that or the other thing but typically those top notes are all petrochemical fragrance or fragrance that are made with fragrance oils.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: They're not actually essential oils.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: So for us it's all about using essential oils as the fragrance ingredient but I like to say that we're more a perfumer than just an aromatherapist.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: We like to call our products aroma perfume, not just aromatherapy.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: And that's been also very challenging in terms of getting into the industry and explaining to you know a beauty buyer what that is because again there's no shelf for this right now.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: They're not going to put you in the fragrance category because your fragrance has no alcohol it's not going to evaporate.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: It's not meant to be an outer layer it's meant to be an inner layer.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: And then if they put you in the wellness category next to a bath soak or a lotion you're you're not that either right so in a way um I'm really pleased at where we are with our journey and and but I feel like this is this isn't very clear yet to everybody and anyone how to build this into you know a beauty uh catalog or category.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: Oh I find this to be so intriguing what you're saying because I absolutely classify you guys as a fragrance brand and the reason that's the reason I brought up the balancing of the scents and the oils because that's where I was really you know really trying to go at as a consumer was even the idea that because your scents and you know for everyone listening the oil so you think of aromatherapy oils right you think they're very potent they're very strong they come in small vials and you know you have people have this preconceived notion about them because there have been metaphysical stores for a long time you know and places where you can buy this I get it.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: But unfortunately that's not anymore.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: You know you it's a different now we're living in a different way of applying this technology.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: And so you know one of the favorite my favorite products of yours is the lotion the chakra two body lotion I absolutely love this because this is a really great way for everyone listening if you like hand creams or body creams or any kind you can put it anywhere really you know and I use it on my hands.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: I love it as a hand cream because it gives you the same smell and the sensation the old factory sensation of the actual chakra one or you know other like the different chakra oils but it just does it in a lotion form.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: So you know how many fragrance brands do you know that you do that with you know you have your favorite fragrance then you buy the lotion why because it's a milder way of putting it on your body you know it's a simple concept so I don't think that there's any you know leap of faith needed when we consider you know Adorotherapy a true fragrance brand.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: This is a real category of fragrance and I'm sorry but you know even I was talking to uh you know the series with Veronique Gabai and Veronique made a great point about how you know oils are very important in in perfumery and fragrance.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: You know she was one of the leading experts on this stuff you know and and it's like she was even talking about that.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: And I just think that it's really about overcoming the stigma people have.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: You know it really there's a stigma about um aromatherapy and anything related to really truly acknowledging spirituality I feel like I feel like it's it's just you know we're still getting over that and you know what's funny to me I just wanted to kind of insert this in was for all of the self-help gurus out there right now I have a little message for all of you you're all regurgitating the same information we've known for about three or four centuries though.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: I had to say it I'm sorry I had to say it yeah I I just don't believe in you know I feel like it's like people keep reinventing the wrong stuff whereas you're I think you're doing this this category is very multifaceted.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: That's really the end all feel that's one component of that you know so if you're able to educate people through scent about spirituality that's very powerful and that's definitely deserving of being in a category of fragrance and you know and in very curated fragrances I think it's a it's wonderful to have thank you well thank you I I appreciate your understanding of it and it's it's so it makes my heart sing because I see it very clearly and I know that we're you know I think you talked about this the other day and I am so on the same path as you if it's a trend don't talk to me about it because it's not that I don't like trends.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: I actually worked in the trend industry in the fashion industry for many years.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: But um trends are trends and the thing is is when something is really a powerful possibility then it transcends a trend and it becomes something that's there and it should last for as long as it needs to last.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: And so these like you said these concepts are not trends.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: They've been there forever and so anything that makes me feel like we've taken it and we've given it its true meaning and not distilled it or distorted it or moved it into a trend that makes me so happy because I don't see this as something that needs to go away.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: I see this as something that remains and if we do a good job of it then we'll be the leader in this category and I'm calling the category I'm naming it aroma perfume.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: It's the idea of perfumery but using aromatherapy principles.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: So yes it's perfumery yes it's aromatherapy it is not traditional aromatherapy and it is not traditional perfumery and we're we're inventing it absolutely no it's a wonderful wonderful category and I'm I'm with it now I am with it hashtag aroma perfumery you know all the way and I'm all about it I think I mean some of the best scents that it's so it's just so interesting to me and I keep I keep remembering different instances and there was one I mean one of our founders for Fragrance Friday even came on you know um and she was I think one of the first perfume brands that I had or fragrance brands I had hosted admitted she said there was a scent that I got from somebody and it was in a bottle and it was essential oil and she's like I don't know where they got it from but it was somewhere in India.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: That's all she knew she was Australian she was like all I knew was it was somewhere in India and she's like that inspired me to create my entire line of fragrance.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: And it's not her fragrances smell like that it's that it led her down this path of like you know what I mean so once again like we're coming back to this notion of there is a lot more philosophical meaning and value when you really consider aromatherapy to be true perfumery because it does elicit you know all of those neurological things we talked about all of the all of the really really um nitty gritty stuff that we're still learning about from the neuroscience perspective psychiatry perspective and it's not you know I'm just happy that we're at a point now where we can actually say we do have some data you know we do have some data now.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: So that's that's where I get very happy because I've believed in it since I was very little you know I grew up in the Indian culture my mother was is she loved oils you know you know the whole the whole thing.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: And so I grew up with it but I always used to look at my friends in the Western world and just think you guys you know this stuff is great.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: You know you should get into it.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: Like you know and and it was because it wasn't about religion it's about lifestyle and health and wellness so I love it you know um sidetracked I know totally sidetracked there but um I just want to say I love you brand and I think you're doing a great job.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah that you really did it right and I think that that's what I want everyone to understand is that aromatherapy comes in many forms.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of brands out there but to really curate the space is very important especially right now as Aroma perfumery is emerging um it's very important to curate and right now Adora Therapy in my opinion is the brand I love the products like I said I use the chakra two body lotion every day the chakra one oil I put on every single morning it's wonderful you guys you will fall in love with it.
