- 0:04Speaker 1: fires at communications towers in the Metro region. The latest
- 0:09Speaker 1: just last evening. Crews rushed to a fire at the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Bell Tower near Pippy Park just after seven. The fire
- 0:16Speaker 1: was put out in short order. However, authorities are on
- 0:19Speaker 1: high alert given it's one of a number of fires
- 0:22Speaker 1: over the last few days. OURNC called on the Canine
- 0:26Speaker 1: Unit to assist in its investigation into last night's fire.
- 0:30Speaker 1: No further details are available. Police began receiving reports about
- 0:34Speaker 1: the fires on Saturday, which began out a site in
- 0:37Speaker 1: Shay Heights and four other sites across the city. Constable
- 0:41Speaker 1: Steph Meyers says police are unsure if the fires are
- 0:44Speaker 1: connected and have no leads on possible suspects.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so all five fires are believed to be suspicious.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Were unable to say at this time whether or not
- 0:54Speaker 2: they're connected, but they have been targeted at communication towers
- 0:58Speaker 2: and pole line areas. So we're asking again anyone with
- 1:02Speaker 2: any information to call seventeen nine eight thousand then report.
- 1:04Speaker 1: That authorities have reason to believe the fires may impact
- 1:07Speaker 1: cellular service for some customers. Anyone with information or video
- 1:12Speaker 1: footage is asked to contact the RNC or crime stoppers.
- 1:17Speaker 1: The federal Child Benefit payments increased yesterday for eligible families.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Government increase payments up to one hundred and sixty dollars
- 1:26Speaker 1: per child under age six and up to one hundred
- 1:30Speaker 1: thirty five dollars per child ages six to seventeen. Metro
- 1:34Speaker 1: Area MP Tom Osborne says some forty seven thousand people
- 1:38Speaker 1: in this province on increase in their account and says
- 1:42Speaker 1: that Ottawa is looking at further affordability measures to tackle
- 1:45Speaker 1: the rising cost of living.
- 1:47Speaker 3: The past couple of years have been a strain on
- 1:53Speaker 3: families and Canada's government is delivering benefits and programs that
- 1:58Speaker 3: help ease that burden for cas and These initiatives, such
- 2:03Speaker 3: as the Canada Child Benefit, putting thousands of dollars a
- 2:05Speaker 3: year in the pockets of families, which is a tax
- 2:09Speaker 3: free benefit, allows them to provide essentials, whether school supplies, clothing, food,
- 2:16Speaker 3: to ensure that children have a good solid start.
- 2:19Speaker 1: It's more expensive to fill up your tank this morning.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Gas is up by three point six cents per lead, diesel,
- 2:27Speaker 1: furnace and stove oil all increase by a little more
- 2:30Speaker 1: than a cent severe wildfires are becoming more common across
- 2:35Speaker 1: the country, and that has healthcare professionals worried about the
- 2:39Speaker 1: potential long term impacts on people's health. Doctor Reagan Bergmark
- 2:44Speaker 1: is a SIGNUS specialist at Mass General Brigham in Boston.
- 2:48Speaker 1: She says wildfire seasons are getting worse because of climate change,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and people need to be prepared for what that could mean.
- 2:55Speaker 4: We know that a lot of the effects of things
- 2:58Speaker 4: like finding particulate matter and other components of wildfire smoke
- 3:03Speaker 4: can have long term damage. You know, air pollution just
- 3:07Speaker 4: more broadly can affect your lungs and your upper airway,
- 3:11Speaker 4: but also lead to things like heart disease because of
- 3:14Speaker 4: cellular damage and inflammation that they induce.

- 3:44Speaker 1: provincial liquor bands Canada's dairy system and vehicle import quotas
- 3:48Speaker 1: while excluding energy, fish and critical minerals. Business leaders called
- 3:53Speaker 1: the move a regrettable escalation, but urge both countries to
- 3:57Speaker 1: use the thirty day window to advanced negotiations. OURCMP say
- 4:03Speaker 1: Saskatchewan Roughriders player Jaden Dolki left a gas station without

- 4:15Speaker 1: SUV collided with another vehicle, killing him and a twenty
- 4:19Speaker 1: two year old man. Alcohol and cannabis were found in
- 4:22Speaker 1: Dulkie's vehicle, while autopsies and toxicology testing remain part of
- 4:26Speaker 1: the investigation. The thirty year old linebacker played sixty eight
- 4:31Speaker 1: CFL games after being selected by Saskatchewan in the twenty
- 4:34Speaker 1: twenty two draft. For the first time in over thirty years,
- 4:39Speaker 1: our CMP cruisers are getting a fresh look. The Mounties
- 4:43Speaker 1: say the new design will improve visibility and provide a modern,
- 4:46Speaker 1: distinctive appearance. The new vehicles will begin appearing later this summer,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but the transition will be gradual. Current vehicles will remain
- 4:55Speaker 1: in service until there are enough new cars for a
- 4:57Speaker 1: complete fleet. Replacement and they will operate side by side
- 5:01Speaker 1: during the transition period. That's your news. I'm Sarah Strickland.
