- 0:09Hello and welcome to Fraggle Talk Back to the Rock, the
- 0:13unofficial Fraggle Rock podcast brought to you by
- 0:15toughbakes.com. This is the podcast where we
- 0:18cover Fraggle Rock Back to the Rock episode by episode, along
- 0:21with the talented performers, producers, writers and builders
- 0:24who helped put it all together. I am your host, silly creature
- 0:28Johannes. Today we are talking about
- 0:31Season 2 episode 3 When Moki met Lanford, in which Moki branches
- 0:37out to make a new best bud who really believes in her.
- 0:42I'm sorry, these plant puns are a bit mulch.
- 0:49Thank you so much for the polite laughter this week.
- 0:52We are so stoked to welcome two extremely special guests back to
- 0:55the podcast. First up, she is the performer
- 0:57behind the Storyteller Fraggle Cotterpindoozer and the Fraggle
- 1:01Fives artist in residence, Moki, It's Donna Kimball.
- 1:05Hi, Donna. Hi, Joe.
- 1:07Hello everyone. Wonderful to have you here.
- 1:10Thank you for coming back. I'm delighted to be here.
- 1:13Thanks for having me. Also joining us is the performer
- 1:17inside Ma Gorg, as well as Lanford and the character find
- 1:20of 2024 Little Rago, it's Ingrid Hansen.
- 1:24Hello, Ingrid. Hello.
- 1:30Thank you both so much for joining.
- 1:32I'm very excited to talk about Moki, talk about Lanford, and to
- 1:36talk about Moki and Lanford with you.
- 1:39We're delighted. And just so the audience knows,
- 1:42Ingrid and I all while you were talking, Ingrid and I are making
- 1:44faces at each other. I was.
- 1:46Trying so hard not to. Look too much Donna.
- 1:49That's I miss you too. That's pretty much how we spent
- 1:52our our work days, catching each other's eye across the set and
- 1:56making goofy faces at each other.
- 1:58Yeah, and everything. Can happen below the frame.
- 2:02Oh yeah, I know. Yep, whatever it gets high.
- 2:06So, Donuts, tell me, what, if anything, changed for you in
- 2:11your approach to Moki between seasons one and two?
- 2:15Oh, and my approach, you know I. Felt a little.
- 2:20More free this season for sure. I felt like I just think the
- 2:27writers are so great on this show and they really understand
- 2:30us and want to understand us as performers and how our
- 2:35personalities mesh with the characters personalities.
- 2:37So I just felt like I just hit the jackpot this season in terms
- 2:42of everything that Moki had to do and even things that
- 2:46storyteller got to do. I think she was sprinkled
- 2:49throughout like the potent spies she is.
- 2:51And so I, I felt a little more, I think a little more secure and
- 2:57therefore a little more free. So I could go a little farther,
- 3:01push myself a little harder, those kinds of things, without
- 3:06resting on the laurels, if you know what I mean.
- 3:09Ah, it's another plant. Plant pun.
- 3:12More laurels? Oh, hey.
- 3:14It is now, yes, Yes, yeah, 'cause 'cause you're a fantastic
- 3:18improviser. And I have to assume there's so
- 3:21much improv with specifically, like Moki and the storyteller
- 3:26and also Cotter Pen, especially when she's standing next to the
- 3:28architect. And we've talked to some of the
- 3:31writers already on this podcast talking about trying to write to
- 3:35the strengths of those improvisers.
- 3:37So did you feel like you're kind of getting lines that felt like
- 3:41something that you would say? Oh, definitely, definitely.
- 3:45And I think that's just from, you know, time together and
- 3:48getting to know one another and I'm feeling a little more free
- 3:51to try things. And that means improvising some,
- 3:56some new stuff and, and feeling, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm pretty
- 4:00confident and I, I'm OK with pitching an idea because I'm OK
- 4:04if, if someone doesn't want that idea.
- 4:07I am not too attached to my ideas that I pitch.
- 4:10So I like, you know, feeling collaborative and, and getting
- 4:13some ideas out there. But if someone says, OK, let's
- 4:16do it that way once and then we'll do it my way.
- 4:18And I go, oh, OK, you're just doing that to be nice.
- 4:21But OK, I'll just show you my way and see what happens.
- 4:24But but yeah, you know, throwing out ideas, not being terribly
- 4:27attached. But yeah, I just, yeah, writers
- 4:31are just, you know, I bow down. I bow down.
- 4:34They're very talented, they're very good at their jobs.
- 4:37Ingrid, you were all over season one, but this is the season is
- 4:42like kind of your first real jump into getting your own
- 4:44regularly recurring character that you that you perform solo,
- 4:47I should say, as opposed to Mog Org.
- 4:50Can you talk a bit about like what that journey was like for
- 4:53you? I think I got a call from Johnny
- 4:57saying we have a character who's a real weirdo that speaks only
- 5:01in gibberish, and I thought of you, and I was like, yeah, yeah,
- 5:08that's me typecast. Go be a coach.
- 5:10So I mean, working with Lanford and with Donna and with
- 5:14everybody was so much fun. It's so it's so fun to play a
- 5:18character who it's I love working in gibberish and non
- 5:22language based stuff. And I really milked Lanford for
- 5:28all he was worth, like the some of the first scenes with him
- 5:31and, and this for that scene, like I just started, he just
- 5:35started imitating anything that Moki said and the the directors
- 5:41and editors kept it in. It was just so fun.
- 5:44But you know, none of that was scripted or directed.
- 5:46That was just me letting Lanford be a little joyous idiot, you
- 5:51know? So I.
- 5:52Was wondering about that. I loved I loved to hear that
- 5:55that was your choice because Lanford it must be so hard for
- 5:58any character that doesn't speak and like who also they they
- 6:03drive the plot by existing, but not by anything they're actually
- 6:06doing. So the fact that you get to
- 6:09like, do this and to have so much comedy and so much to say
- 6:13is really kind of driving Lanford forward and to make
- 6:17Lanford like a, you know, someone's favorite character for
- 6:19sure. Yeah, he has a lot of opinions
- 6:22and he, he thinks he's very, he thinks he always knows what's
- 6:25going on. And he, it's kind of like he
- 6:27thinks he can speak English, but he doesn't have a like a tongue
- 6:31or a the same mouth structure as a, as a fraggle.
- 6:36So he, yeah, he, you know, he, he has a lot to say and but
- 6:42usually no one. Else does perfectly.
- 6:45Totally. I have to say, when I heard that
- 6:48you were playing Lanford, I was like perfect, perfect.
- 6:54Because I think, I think Johnny mentioned this, that after
- 6:58season one, they realized that they had two super talented
- 7:01people who weren't were slightly underutilized and one was Keira
- 7:06Hall and one was Ingrid Hansen. So they both got a speaking part
- 7:10of their own this season, which is tremendous.
- 7:13And we're so thrilled for all of them.
- 7:15But yeah, when I heard that you were Lanford, I was like, Oh
- 7:18yeah. Because I, I, I said this once
- 7:20before that you, Ingrid, are my favorite combo of performer in
- 7:25that you're in, you're totally insane and you're totally free.
- 7:30But you're such a pro, you know, you're just such a professional
- 7:34both. And both of those things exist
- 7:37within you. And I just, it's just that a joy
- 7:41I was. Just reflecting last night, I
- 7:45was telling my partner that in one of the sessions where we
- 7:48were recording the song with when Mokilat Lang met Langford
- 7:52and the big duet song that we sang, I was in the recording
- 7:56studio and in the Zoom meeting on Pops, Harvey Mason Junior.
- 8:02And I was like, what? They're like, Oh yeah, yeah,
- 8:05yeah. You know, producer for Yeah.
- 8:09President of the Grammys. No big.
- 8:10Jackson like, yeah, like. And here he is, listening to me
- 8:14go. He wrote it, right?
- 8:22He wrote that song. I mean, we'll talk about that
- 8:24song in a bit, but like, I mean, I assume that he would want to,
- 8:27like he did it on purpose, like he wanted to hear it.
- 8:30Yes, he has a yes. It's him and his team.
- 8:33That's yeah, yes. So yeah, yeah, he knew it was
- 8:36coming. Oh, he knew.
- 8:38Oh yeah. Oh.
- 8:40Yeah, I've I've so many more questions about Lanford, but
- 8:41we'll, we'll get into it as we watch this episode, 'cause
- 8:45there's a lot of Lanford in this episode.
- 8:47Let's jump into it. Let's let's not hesitate.
- 8:51It is morning in Fraggle Rock. The recent winds have been
- 8:54keeping Moki awake. This is her driving force of
- 8:57this episode. And she's so tired that she
- 8:59mistakes these four Fraggles who kind of look like Gobo, Red,
- 9:02Wembley and Boober for her friends.
- 9:04This is not the first time, excuse me, This is not the last
- 9:06time that we'll see doppelgangers of the Fraggles in
- 9:09this season. If it's a little, little tease
- 9:12for later on, it makes me wonder, like, I don't want to
- 9:16say that all Fraggles look alike, but maybe there's like
- 9:18multiples of everybody, like spares, maybe.
- 9:22Is that a thing? I don't know about that.
- 9:24I don't know about spares. I think each Fraggle is their
- 9:27own individual person. Moki just had that haze of lack
- 9:32of sleep. Yes.
- 9:34Yeah, clouded her and I think with the.
- 9:38Doppelgangers. It's more like to show that you
- 9:41know these fraggles, The above ground fraggles and the below
- 9:44below fraggles are from very different worlds, and yet they
- 9:47all have so much in common. It's true, yes.
- 9:49It's more about the common ground than about them all being
- 9:52clones. Yeah, one of the fraggles these
- 9:57these not Fraggle 5 Fraggles Moki refers to as Rhonda and.
- 10:03Was, Oh yes, the elusive Rhonda Fraggle.
- 10:06Do we finally meet Rhonda? Well, which one of the group is
- 10:11Rhonda? Do we know that's?
- 10:12What I was going to ask you do. You know what I mean?
- 10:14I mean, I think it's it's great that we don't haven't quite
- 10:19pinned down Rhonda, but I just love that her name is Rhonda I.
- 10:22Just. I've loved that one from the
- 10:24first in the first season. Or did the Fraggle 5 just call
- 10:28every other fraggle Rhonda? Oh, just yeah.
- 10:31Like, hey bud. Like calling somebody bud or gem
- 10:34or dude. So one thing that we're trying
- 10:38to do, we're trying to identify a lot of these background
- 10:42fraggles because you all have been doing such a good job of
- 10:46posting behind the scenes stuff on on social media this year.
- 10:50And we're starting to learn like, oh, that Fraggle that
- 10:53shows up a few times, like has a name.
- 10:55Oh yeah, they. All do, yeah.
- 10:59We're we're trying. To figure it Out by Jurgen.
- 11:03Jurgen knows all of their names and I.
- 11:05Think Jurgen name then I think. Oh.
- 11:08Originator. I don't know.
- 11:11I don't know. Maybe somewhere.
- 11:13You know what I don't know? That's a good Jurgen question, I
- 11:16hope, but I think either Jurgen or one of the builders in LA
- 11:20named yeah. But their names are like, you
- 11:23know, Dicky. Vicky Mcshnaz.
- 11:31Yeah, there's a Halle Fraggle. Halle, OH.
- 11:34Hat. Great, he's got the hat.
- 11:36Gosh, is there a gun? Peach pit cantaloupe.
- 11:40Cantaloupe. And they do.
- 11:42Those are the little baby Fraggle.
- 11:44Yeah, yeah, those 3. Babies.
- 11:45I love it. It's adorable and we have so
- 11:48much work to do to update them up at wiki to figure out which
- 11:51one is honey. Dude, get on it nerds And.
- 11:54We're trying, so we're doing this podcast.
- 11:59So Gobo suggests that maybe what they need is a little routine.
- 12:02Let's get back to the 30 minute work week.
- 12:06And Buber has a line. He says nothing like the
- 12:08drudgery of work to soothe the soul, which is almost identical
- 12:11to something that he said in the original series episode, The 30
- 12:14Minute Work week. He says tedium and drudgery are
- 12:17good for the soul. That was a nice little little
- 12:19touch. Did you even notice that that
- 12:20that was a little? Homage.
- 12:21No, I did not. So many homages for nerds like
- 12:25us to glom onto. It's kind of it's really true.
- 12:30It is true, yeah. Especially, I mean, when we
- 12:33started this pandemic thing that none of us asked for and
- 12:37suddenly we're all like out of our regular routines, that
- 12:39really threw, threw a lot of us off.
- 12:42I mean, among other reasons. But yes, yeah, yeah.
- 12:46Not to bring us down with talking about the pandemic, but
- 12:50yeah, sorry about that. Everybody.
- 12:52This is where we get our first song of the episode.
- 12:55The song is working, which is also from the episode 30 minute
- 12:59work week from the original series.
- 13:01And everyone gets to show off their signature jobs.
- 13:04Moki is in the garden picking radishes.
- 13:07How do you how do you feel about that?
- 13:09About Moki being the one who seems brave enough to actually
- 13:14venture into the Gorg's garden every day.
- 13:15To get vanished. I know, I know, I love that.
- 13:18Well, especially now that the Gorgs are all you know, we're
- 13:21palsy with the Gorgs for now. For.
- 13:24Now. But yeah, I, I, yeah.
- 13:27What did she do before then? What did she just sort of peek
- 13:30out, just grab what was there? Just I think she just went
- 13:32throughout the caves to to gather, to forage and gather.
- 13:36I sure. I mean the old show, the the
- 13:38original Fraggle Rock. It seemed like she that was her
- 13:41job because she was like almost aloof enough to feel like, oh,
- 13:45it's no big deal, this is the job, so I'm just going to go for
- 13:47it. And like almost unaware of the
- 13:50danger. And now the new, the new Moki
- 13:53doesn't really have that disconnect from reality like the
- 13:57like the original. I don't know if it's, I actually
- 13:59don't know that it's a disconnect from reality.
- 14:01Joe, I'll quibble with you on this.
- 14:02Yeah, please quibble away. It's a.
- 14:04Feeling a connectedness to The Cave itself and the different
- 14:08types of life forms. I think she feels like she knows
- 14:10them and she's the one who knows them.
- 14:13So like this is guys, this is my lane, OK?
- 14:16Yeah, these. Mushrooms.
- 14:17They don't like to get picked past dawn, you know, they're,
- 14:22you know, at night time's OK, but after that they get a little
- 14:24grumpy. So yeah, it's like that.
- 14:27I like it. Yeah, I'll take it.
- 14:29I'll take it. She's in tune.
- 14:30She trusts the universe. Totally in tune, she does.
- 14:33Yeah, Right. Right.
- 14:34So she's not that. She's disconnected from reality.
- 14:36She's very connected to reality. To her.
- 14:38Own reality? Yes.
- 14:40Aren't we all? Wait, who am I?
- 14:44What am I doing? Where do I live?
- 14:47You're on a podcast. You're on a podcast.
- 14:49OK. In the song, Gobo's dancing with
- 14:53these two creatures that kind of look like like Fraggle sized
- 14:56doozers or like a little furry. They're kind of doozer colored.
- 15:00I had, I tried to find them. I found they're from the
- 15:04original series. They're called Marshy and Bog.
- 15:06I don't know if that's still their names, but it's what they
- 15:08were called the old show. So in case you were wondering, I
- 15:11don't know which one's Marshy and which one's Bog, but that's
- 15:14their names. They don't know either.
- 15:16Probably not. Yeah.
- 15:18I believe you. And then the only other thing
- 15:21about the scene is that there's just so many Fraggles.
- 15:23And this is, I love that you are doing this.
- 15:25And if not every episode, almost every episode that there's just
- 15:28a scene where there's like 30 Fraggles hanging out in the
- 15:31backgrounds. It looks so good every time.
- 15:33Yeah, I mean, Greta, Jordan Canning, I think the director of
- 15:37this episode for just. I mean, we could talk about
- 15:42Jordan a lot. She's amazing.
- 15:44We love. Her.
- 15:45She's our shero. Yeah, and she's so great at
- 15:49animating the world and, and really cares about seeing the
- 15:53depth of the fragile universe. And she's also a puppet nerd.
- 15:57And she really authentically loves the show and loves the
- 16:00puppets and is, is bringing out these these old puppets from the
- 16:04original series and be like, they need to be in here.
- 16:06This guy needs to be in here. Put that thing up there.
- 16:08Like, yeah. And that one, yeah, the and the
- 16:12layering of the world's. And case in point is, you know,
- 16:15the Boober doing the laundry and then they pull back and it's
- 16:19Wembley running and forward doing his little siren thing and
- 16:22then pulls back even for. So we're like we're hanging off
- 16:25to the side ready to sort of jump in.
- 16:27And I think Amy and I did the, the two fraggles, one has the
- 16:32hose and one has the, the hose on the wheel and gets, you know,
- 16:35yanked, it gets yanked out. So that's, that's Amy and I.
- 16:38So we're all always, you know, doubling up.
- 16:40But I, I just love that one. That to me was like a diorama
- 16:43that unfolds before your eyes. And I think Jordan really excels
- 16:47at that. Oh yeah.
- 16:49And just and making that world seem so huge as you talked
- 16:52about. Yeah, there's there.
- 16:54And there's a lot of shots like that throughout the season of
- 16:57long camera pans, like long shots and things that I don't
- 17:03think, you know, we always talk about these great puppetry
- 17:06moments that you don't know are really hard to do or a really
- 17:10big performance because they look so natural, like that's the
- 17:13you'd know this, but that's the point of them.
- 17:16But I think what Jordan is doing and, and the other directors as
- 17:19well is creating these long camera shots or, or angles or
- 17:24whatever that are supposed to be big and cinematic.
- 17:27But we don't think about, oh, impossible that must be to do
- 17:32when you're 4 feet up and, you know, you're trying to hide the
- 17:35puppeteers and people are running around, you know, below
- 17:38the stage. I can't, I can't picture it at
- 17:42all. I'm glad that Jordan could
- 17:44picture it so she could direct it.
- 17:46Right. And I think all of our
- 17:48directors, JJ had some really cool shots too that we're
- 17:51pushing through with Red and Boober pushing through to
- 17:56everyone going Nope to the Nope scene.
- 17:58I love that one too because the set is so huge.
- 18:02And to be able to show how huge the set is and just again, with
- 18:08with the layers and such. And this is a non sequitur, but
- 18:11I think my absolute favorite shot was I posted this on social
- 18:16media. That was 3 monkeys.
- 18:17It was in. It was maybe he went this way.
- 18:20Langford What? And then you see your trip and
- 18:22then you see you're swinging from a branch where it was 3
- 18:25monkeys with Kira, Ben. And then I was on the last one
- 18:29just so amazing. And it was there was one sort of
- 18:32big column of dirt in between, which is where Kira was hid
- 18:36behind that. And then Ben took the stunt
- 18:40monkey and made her fall. And then she fell out of sight.
- 18:42And then the, the, the camera swoops in and goes over and
- 18:46tilts down onto then we see Moki, you know, dangling and
- 18:50I've got a blue suit on so you don't see me.
- 18:51But I just thought, wow. And we got it on like the within
- 18:554 takes, I think we got it. And that's, and it was towards
- 18:59the end when like man, our, our camera a it's a four person team
- 19:05on our main camera. And wow, they were just, I, I
- 19:08used to just go and talk to them and say, how do you, how are you
- 19:11guys doing this? And they say, we do it just like
- 19:12you guys. We're just always communicating.
- 19:14You get this, I'll get this, I'll do this and I'll you do
- 19:17this. And but it's pretty much just
- 19:19like you guys. We work as a team.
- 19:20We try to read each other's minds, but just really some
- 19:25gorgeous directing, gorgeous camera work.
- 19:28Yeah, it's a whole thing. It's always a dance with the
- 19:30camera because the cameras, you know, a lot of a lot of older
- 19:34Muppet stuff. Do you see a lot of locked shots
- 19:38where, you know, you might see a 2 minute scene play out in a
- 19:40locked shot where it's all just about the puppets living their
- 19:45lives. But when you have the moving
- 19:47camera, you're always doing a dance where you're trying to,
- 19:50you know, if you have those long, long shots and there's 30
- 19:54puppeteers and you get 1 puppeteer's head and oh, we got
- 19:57to do it again. Oh, we got to do it again, you
- 19:58know, so it's the camera. Camera operators are doing a
- 20:03real dance, too. Well, and you know, the, the
- 20:05fact that because you're already in Season 2 and you don't have
- 20:10that time that you probably had to take at the beginning of
- 20:13season one, where everyone's still kind of getting used to
- 20:14each other. And you have that shorthand of
- 20:18collaboration where you really, it seems like the Fraggle Rock
- 20:22team can, can do anything because like, I know how you
- 20:27move and you can trust me that I'm going to do the right thing
- 20:30and etcetera, etcetera. It's that that it's, it is a it
- 20:34is beautiful that the collaboration is so successful
- 20:36with all of you. Well, thanks.
- 20:39Hey, you're welcome. I always liken it to being like
- 20:43the the puppet show. The part that gets on camera is
- 20:46kind of like the tip of the iceberg.
- 20:48And then below the ocean, like below the the bottom of the
- 20:52camera's frame is all these bodies like crammed together and
- 20:56rotating around and like and having to see and a web of
- 21:00monitors. And sometimes you have people
- 21:02moving the monitor mid shot so it can go from one place to
- 21:04another, so you can see it when you go around a corner.
- 21:07And it's really, really like I get I really nerd out on that
- 21:12dance. It's like the dance of below
- 21:14frame. Yeah.
- 21:16Yeah, it's fascinating. Someone just put a GoPro down
- 21:20there like show us what it's like, yeah.
- 21:23Well, with the BTS that you know, we've posted, you can see,
- 21:26I mean, there's not that there's really not a lot.
- 21:29We can only get our heads out so much because we have to see the
- 21:31monitor. So it's we can't duck our heads
- 21:33down completely or we just won't be able to see anything.
- 21:35And not like I think Carol Spinney and I guess Matt Vogel.
- 21:39Now they have a monitor on their chest, so their head.
- 21:41I did as well. Down.
- 21:43Yeah, well. I did as well in heart.
- 21:45Oh, right, yeah. But that gets, you know, that
- 21:49gets the head down. But they're already in a,
- 21:53they're already in something. So yeah, not, not a lot.
- 21:56It's happened a few times. I think it happened under
- 21:58crystal or someone wore a monitor, you know, on their
- 22:00chest. And that does get their head
- 22:01out. But most of the time it's just
- 22:03us, you know, trying to scrunch. Our chiropractors love us.
- 22:06Yes, we're. Very scrunchy.
- 22:09I'm sure, I'm sure. Keep them in business.
- 22:14So the Doosers are setting up wind chimes all over Fraggle
- 22:18Rock so they could track the Gusty's, and as Cotter Pin is
- 22:23showing off the first one, Wrench and Turbo are blowing on
- 22:27it and it looks like they're puffing their cheeks out.
- 22:30Is is that a puppet effect? Does that really do?
- 22:33Can can those dozers do that? I don't remember if that was
- 22:38practical or if that's a little CG embellishment.
- 22:41I don't recall. Do you remember Iggy?
- 22:45I think it's just the mouth. I think it's just the mouth
- 22:49mechanism moving. That's my guess.
- 22:51It's just by by because the, the user's face is all this very
- 22:55delicate, flocked, foamy material.
- 22:58And I, I imagine that when you pull the lip down with the lip
- 23:02trigger, it just, it does do that to the cheeks.
- 23:06But I. Don't know.
- 23:08Or yeah, yeah, don't know. Or they're just real living
- 23:12creatures, and that's just what happens when you, yeah, blow on
- 23:16a on a wind chime. No.
- 23:19Well, whatever the answer is, I'm impressed.
- 23:20Like if it's CGI, didn't know it was CG.
- 23:23If it's a puppet effect, I'm super impressed.
- 23:26If it's just something that they've always been able to do,
- 23:29that's awesome. So let's let's talk a little bit
- 23:33about Kotterpin since she's in the scene.
- 23:36Did anything change for you about Kotterpin between season
- 23:38one and two? Really, I, I really love how
- 23:42steady she is. I, I think, I think what changed
- 23:48might have been just Johnny and I just got a little crazier in
- 23:51between, in between takes with our, with our Oh my gosh.
- 23:55OK, I have to tell you, I, I, I drew Johnny's name for Secret
- 24:00Santa. And this was really rough.
- 24:04And I thought, oh, crap. You know, because it's like
- 24:06Johnny, you can't phone it in. You can't just get him a gift
- 24:08card. So I, I'm, I, I went to the
- 24:13props department and everyone and just gathered little
- 24:16trinkets from like, broken bits of Doozer sticks, you know, a
- 24:19broken Doozer helmet. And I turned them all into
- 24:22ornaments. Because.
- 24:23Johnny loves Johnny loves Christmas, I love Christmas.
- 24:26But I thought, what am I going to do for the tree Topper?
- 24:28And I was like, oh, I have to make the architect as a tree
- 24:32Topper. So there somewhere maybe I can
- 24:35post this. I have to get permission.
- 24:36But I got a Styrofoam head. I actually got they gave me a
- 24:41visor and antenna, actual doozer antenna.
- 24:45And I think Jason made gave me an extra little wig and mustache
- 24:50for, for him. And so the head looked exactly
- 24:53like architect. And then for his little body, I
- 24:55I did strips of script and it was all our ad libs.
- 25:00Carapin, did I ever tell you about the time I was Fabio's
- 25:04pool boy? Tell me again, Sir.
- 25:07So it was just those two lines, but in strips all around and I
- 25:11curled them to look like a gown. So.
- 25:15So we we went a little nuts. Yeah.
- 25:17So and then I put it on the tree in the in the lobby next to
- 25:21craft service and he discovered it with a bunch of people
- 25:25around, which is really fun. So I think just really, we just
- 25:30went nuts. And I really love that the
- 25:32architect just got just crazier and crazier and wearing the
- 25:36strawberry hats and the wigs and all of that stuff.
- 25:38I I just love. And Cotterpin, I think we ended
- 25:40every scene with Cotterpin going, this hat's a winner.
- 25:46Don't you think? Some of the US made it in and
- 25:51some did not. It's her new catch phrase.
- 25:53Yeah, I I just love when there's a character that can literally
- 25:58get away with saying anything, and the Architect does it for
- 26:03me. So good.
- 26:04Yeah, and they're a good pair. She's a good straight man.
- 26:06I think for him, she's just all all about business and getting
- 26:10the job done. And yeah.
- 26:13But that's that's also the storyteller.
- 26:14The storyteller does that for me where she can she can say or do
- 26:18anything. It's in character and it's
- 26:20always hysterical. Oh yeah, there was this one.
- 26:24There was this one time during right after radishes and
- 26:28strawberries where Boober leaves and then they come back and it's
- 26:33the two sides are going at each other and storytellers sort of
- 26:36left in the middle trying to keep each side calm.
- 26:39And so they just let me improvise for a really long
- 26:43time. It didn't.
- 26:43None of it made it in. It was like I just like went on
- 26:47and on. But I think one of my favorite
- 26:49was Guys I've I've been divorced like 7 times.
- 26:53I get it OK, but you can't come to blows even though you really,
- 27:01really want to. And when I say really, I know
- 27:04because husband number four, let me tell you, I just went off and
- 27:09they. Just didn't let me.
- 27:13So that's good stuff. And now I'm curious what Fraggle
- 27:15marriage is like. We've never seen a married
- 27:17Fraggle, have we? Oh yeah, I may have.
- 27:20I may have effed with the lore a bit.
- 27:22No, add more lore. That's what we want.
- 27:25Build, build on the Lord. Well, Season 3, Storyteller's
- 27:30eighth marriage. That's we'll look forward to it.
- 27:34That's right. And you know who she has her eye
- 27:36on? I do.
- 27:39Starts with it from, ends with an.
- 27:41Act mustache as a song. It's beautiful.
- 27:47Oh, it's so good. So Moki comes back from the
- 27:51Gorg's garden and she comes across a giant plant that has
- 27:54been uprooted and knocked over by the wind.
- 27:56And who is it? It's Lanford.
- 28:01Lanford was like maybe the number one character that I
- 28:05heard about after season one of people being like, yeah, it's
- 28:09great that we got the Fraggles back and all these background
- 28:11characters and the Gorgs, etcetera, etcetera.
- 28:13But where's Lanford? Really.
- 28:16Yes. Heard a lot of people asking for
- 28:18Lanford. Yeah, so great.
- 28:21I'm glad he's back. So did you do any research of,
- 28:24like, what the old Lanford acted like or spoke like, anything
- 28:27like that? Or did you just feel like you
- 28:29had carte blanche to do whatever you wanted?
- 28:31Both. Yeah, yeah, I watched, I watched
- 28:35a bunch of the re watched a bunch of the OG episodes with
- 28:38Lanford in them. And then also because the the
- 28:41puppet was quite redesigned with a very different shape and all
- 28:44these different things. And I felt completely free to to
- 28:48go wild with it, which is so much fun.
- 28:52And you know, there's so much leeway because he's a plant, so
- 28:58he can do, he can do whatever you want.
- 29:02Ingy did you get a chance to? Because oftentimes if it's a new
- 29:06character, they, the creature shop, when we have a moment, can
- 29:08go in and play with the character, make friends and ask
- 29:12for any sort of modifications. You got a chance to do that
- 29:14right? With the pot and everything.
- 29:16Yeah, a little bit. I mean, it was always, yeah, I
- 29:21did a little bit. And then I, I poor, poor Dusty
- 29:24in the creature shop I kept, I really worked that mouth palette
- 29:28on that puppet and make it trying to make, you know, make
- 29:30him scrunch his face in a weird little disturb, you know,
- 29:34expressions. And eventually I kept peeling my
- 29:37peeling his lip away and my fingers would poke through.
- 29:40And for dust. You had to glue it back in many,
- 29:42many times. The thing is with those that
- 29:44beautiful puppet too, is it's all carved out of soft thumb.
- 29:47So beautifully carved. But the the Fraggle set is
- 29:52coated with this like screechy, you know, fake rock stuff that's
- 29:58quite sharp and. It's like the scratchy side of
- 30:01Velcro and the fraggles are the soft side.
- 30:05So now you can imagine. And the the soft foam puppets
- 30:09that aren't even covered with the fleece, they're so much more
- 30:11vulnerable to getting sliced by that.
- 30:13So I had to navigate that. Keep your little leafies safe.
- 30:18Which must have been hard for a character who's literally rooted
- 30:21to the ground totally. Totally.
- 30:24And you also have your your face and your body and your torso
- 30:26like smushed up against the set all the time.
- 30:30So yeah, I cut up his sleeve, he's a few times and you had to
- 30:34glue back together. He'll be OK.
- 30:36They grow back. That's what leads to yeah.
- 30:40He's a Hardy breed. Puppets too, right?
- 30:42They just grow back. Yeah, great.
- 30:48I hear all the wranglers going. Oh God, yeah.
- 30:54Moki immediately asks him if he wants to come live with her in
- 30:58red. Like she doesn't even like, it's
- 31:00not even like, like, do you want to get out of here?
- 31:03Do you want to like, what's what's what?
- 31:05What are your hopes and dreams? It's just immediately like, oh,
- 31:07you're sentient. Do you want a new home?
- 31:09And Lanford's like, yeah, let's do it, best friends.
- 31:13You know, you know. You know Joe.
- 31:14When you know, you know. When you know, you know it's.
- 31:17True. And it I feel like that's a lot
- 31:18of little kid relationships too, right?
- 31:20It's like you're 5 and there's another kid who's near, like,
- 31:24lives next door to you or just moves in who's also five.
- 31:27You're like, you're 5, I'm five. We're best friends.
- 31:29Done. Like, there's no, it's just.
- 31:31Yeah, yeah. That's not the big really
- 31:34happened to me and other Muppet fans like there are people who
- 31:39and like and people who are like puppeteers like like that.
- 31:41You probably know who it's like we just have that moment of we
- 31:44should be friends. We have this thing in like,
- 31:48let's just be friends. We're friends now.
- 31:49It's not like by the way, I'm Joe like that's it.
- 31:53You know, there's there's that's that's the first thing we say.
- 31:57Yeah, these little things will bring us together.
- 31:59Yes, in outer space Doc is building a model of a wind
- 32:05turbine and when she turns on the fan it breaks, but she also
- 32:09hears the Doozers wind chime inside the fraggle hole.
- 32:14She wonders out loud if maybe it was.
- 32:16It's like Misses Schimelfini installed a wind chime and
- 32:20immediately misses Schimelfini from off screen shouts no.
- 32:24Do you know who that was as Misses Schimelfini?
- 32:28I've voiced Schimelfini in season one, but I think that
- 32:32that Shimelfinny might have been my bud Kira.
- 32:35I don't know, that's just a guess.
- 32:38We'll have to ask Kira if that was if that was them, because
- 32:41I'm curious. Like there was no, there was no
- 32:43credit as far as I could find. So like one line, you should
- 32:46still get a credit. Got to got to add add it to that
- 32:49Muppet Wiki page. It was Rhonda.
- 32:51It was Rhonda. Yep, Rhonda.
- 32:53Or yeah, I don't know. I love that they kept the
- 32:57Shimelfinny name. Is Missus Shimelfinny's first
- 33:00name Rhonda? Rhonda did.
- 33:02We just crack this wide open. Yes, everybody's not already
- 33:08named his name Rhonda. Done.
- 33:10Yeah, updating the wiki now. Later in the episode, we'll skip
- 33:15ahead just so we're not jumping back and forth with Doc and
- 33:17Spraka too much. But later in the episode, Doc is
- 33:20investigating the location of the wind chime, and she manages
- 33:23to get like her entire upper body inside the Fraggle hole,
- 33:26which is a great image. But also, I think this is the
- 33:30furthest any silly creature has ever been into Fraggle rock.
- 33:35Think about that. It kind of makes me feel like
- 33:38season three, she's going all the way in.
- 33:41Oh. No, I.
- 33:44Don't know either. I know it's exciting to think
- 33:47about. Yep, world's colliding.
- 33:49That's right. Someone's got to do it.
- 33:51It might as well be Billy Cooper.
- 33:53Yeah, who was wonderful on this show, by the way?
- 33:56Like I, I. Well, yeah, she really is just
- 33:59great love. Her.
- 34:01What a treat. I love the way she performed a
- 34:03stock. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:06Finally, what we were all asking for after season one is you have
- 34:09Lily Cooper and you in on a musical show and you don't.
- 34:12And Amy Garcia. And Amy Garcia, too.
- 34:15Yeah, she. Was just in, I think a lot of
- 34:18choral numbers in the occasional step outline, but yeah, to have
- 34:23two such amazing singers just really get to to belt it all
- 34:28out, it's just so great. How lucky we are.
- 34:32We are we are the lucky ones. We are so Moki brings Lanford
- 34:39into Fraggle Rock to meet everybody.
- 34:42OK, so she's like walking into the scene holding Lanford, and
- 34:46like you said, it's a jumble of human beings below.
- 34:48I cannot picture what position the two of you are in, or if
- 34:52there's even just two of you, if there might be more.
- 34:55There's a name for it, Joe. Tell me it's.
- 34:58The benevolent headlock. Yes, I've never done this
- 35:02before, Don, which is. Also my punk band name.
- 35:04That's my punk band name. I love that.
- 35:07But I literally am. It's like I'm whole have my arm,
- 35:10both arms around Ingrid's head. So if you can imagine, I'm
- 35:14holding Ingrid's head, hence the headlock.
- 35:18So you know, Moki is and the pot is right up against my forearm.
- 35:24And so Ingrid's body is pretty much right up against mine.
- 35:26And so one, the moki's right arm is hopefully attached to the pot
- 35:32and then that's that way it's just two of us.
- 35:35When it's not attached to the pot and someone's doing it, then
- 35:37we're like a three person train, which is a little tough.
- 35:41And then what about you with your with your leaves ingy where
- 35:46you just always pulled in your arm?
- 35:48Usually when we walk, Lenford's got his leaves all tucked into
- 35:51the pot. You don't see him.
- 35:52But yeah, Donna's like the arm that Donna uses to perform
- 35:56Moki's arm rod is literally, like, wrapped around my neck.
- 36:03And yeah, and then I get a Donna hug all day long.
- 36:06All day. That's right.
- 36:09That's why puppeteers here always have a spare deodorant in
- 36:11their bag too. You're welcome, Ingy.
- 36:14Ingy. You always smell great.
- 36:18Can you imagine like having a job where you just get to be
- 36:21hugged all day like that's? A little, yeah.
- 36:24Yeah, yeah. I would think that might get
- 36:27old, but we, yeah. But we would.
- 36:29Oh, sure. Yeah.
- 36:31But we would say, OK, let's go and we're going up because we
- 36:33have to go up together and come down together because we're
- 36:36literally attached. So and then walking, walking was
- 36:39the hardest part, but I think we got it.
- 36:40But I think I just ended up just sort of indicating to you in a
- 36:43huge way that I was walking. And so I'm kind of, you see Moki
- 36:48kind of marching when she has the pot.
- 36:51And that's because I'm basically sort of indicating to Ingrid
- 36:55that this that's how we're moving and this is the cadence
- 36:59and all of that stuff. But it took, it took a while to
- 37:01find, to find all that stuff. But that scene where carrying
- 37:06the carrying Lanford and then the pot of soup, dumping the
- 37:09soup and then stick in the Lanford, that was that was
- 37:12tricky. Puppets and props are always
- 37:15tricky. But yeah, so let's work about
- 37:17that. Because so first of all, yeah,
- 37:20so she, like you said, she dumps out the soup and then Lanford
- 37:24goes into the pot. But the IT looks like there's
- 37:28real soup in the pot at first, but there obviously has to be a
- 37:31hole for Ingrid's arm. Multiple pots, Joe.
- 37:36Yes, out. Of here, yes.
- 37:39Multiple. Pots.
- 37:40Can I tell you how dumb I am that it didn't even occur to me
- 37:42that there would be two pots? We have multiples of lots of
- 37:45things on the show, and that's how we make the magic, right?
- 37:48It's it's like that magician trick of, you know, pulling
- 37:51something down and pulling it back up and oh, it's somehow
- 37:53changed it. Yeah, it's you're not dumb.
- 37:58It's very we're very cheap. You're.
- 38:01That's right, you, you found the magic.
- 38:03You believed the magic. That's a good.
- 38:05Thing I believe everything you all do This is why I'm doing a
- 38:08podcast so that I can educate myself on how multiple pots
- 38:11work. Yeah, so Buber immediately
- 38:15identifies Lanford as a night blooming yellow leafed death
- 38:19wart, a germ and the germ capability TBD.
- 38:24Yeah, very, very Boober. And he just, he's got a side
- 38:28hobby that he loves botany. I love that we're learning so
- 38:31much about Boober. Yeah, agreed.
- 38:35That was a fun line. He does not have a name yet.
- 38:38Wembley loves naming things Shirt.
- 38:45Yeah, so great, so dumb. How close Lanford came to being
- 38:50named. Shirt.
- 38:51Shirt. No.
- 38:52Laughs no. No, Lanford has an opinion on
- 38:56that. Moki meditates on it.
- 38:59She she asks The Cave. The Cave comes up with Lanford,
- 39:02and Lanford loves it. I think Moki could have said
- 39:05anything and Lanford would have loved it.
- 39:07Except shirt. Except shirt.
- 39:09Yeah, right. But I think it's that kind of
- 39:12preferential thing where Lanford's kind of like a, you
- 39:15know, when you meet a cat or a dog that loves intensely, loves
- 39:18one person, and then she hates everybody else.
- 39:21Yes. Yeah, he's.
- 39:22A bit. Lanford is a really good hype
- 39:24man for Moki. Yeah.
- 39:26You know, just yeah, whatever you say.
- 39:27Yes, I'm I'm on board. Let's do it.
- 39:30Yeah. Yeah, so Moki puts Lanford in in
- 39:35the Buber's bisque pot. And I, like Buber, says, well,
- 39:39that pot's contaminated now enjoy keeping it forever.
- 39:44And he does. He does keep it forever.
- 39:48That night, Lanford is having trouble sleeping, so Moki is
- 39:52joining him for gong meditation, which is loud but effective, and
- 39:57Pokey comes in and starts playing the flutes loudly and
- 40:00poorly to try to help. Obviously Red is not having any
- 40:03of this. But what I love about this is
- 40:06that Moki and Lanford are wearing matching radish pajamas.
- 40:10Yes, adorable. Yeah, we're pretty cute.
- 40:15Yeah. Do they make those in my size is
- 40:18what I want to know. Oh, there's a bunch of cool
- 40:21fraggle swag out now. That's true.
- 40:24Yeah. We were seeing that the company,
- 40:26I don't know how to pronounce it, if it's results or resvolts.
- 40:30It's like RSVLTS and they've been making these great Henson
- 40:36branded shirts like button down shirts.
- 40:39You can get a. Wembley shirt.
- 40:40Banana shirt, right? Yeah.
- 40:42They're doing the Wembley Banana Tree shirt which is amazing.
- 40:45I need one so awesome also. Like, only real nerds would
- 40:48recognize that. What that's from, you know what
- 40:50I mean, 'cause it doesn't, it's not like a big, it doesn't have
- 40:53a big picture of Wembley on it or anything.
- 40:54But true nerds would be like, Oh my God, that's right.
- 40:57If you know, you know. Wear it out to, you know, Target
- 41:01and the grocery store, and you find your people.
- 41:04Yeah, or you find all the Jimmy Buffett fans who are just like,
- 41:08yeah, Margaritaville. Great.
- 41:12And you're like, no, it's Wembley.
- 41:15God, Jimmy Buffett fans in the Gorg's garden, Junior's raking
- 41:22and gardening, and Pennsylvania runs out in his armor and sword.
- 41:25He's ready to to defend his castle against the Fraggles,
- 41:30which I I also have to assume that these are from like props
- 41:33from the original show, because I know you guys just reuse that
- 41:35stuff all the time. It's just a gorgeous like the
- 41:37armor and the big wooden sword. It's just pretty.
- 41:41I think some of the armor might be new, I don't know.
- 41:44I don't know. Ma's costume is all original so
- 41:48it was some small updates and stuff.
- 41:49Which is just blows my mind that this I get to perform in a
- 41:53puppet that is parts of it are older than I am and that it
- 41:57doesn't even smell like they meant to have taken such good
- 42:01care of it. The the the rare opportunity I
- 42:05get to do something like visit like like one of them up at
- 42:09workshops with the handsome workshops.
- 42:11I usually go in with the secret goal of like I want to touch
- 42:16something that like gym touched or like that's from like the
- 42:20old, the old days. And like sometimes you'll find
- 42:23like one thing and it's like, oh, OK, I'll just reach out my
- 42:25hand and put my finger on it. OK, That's like that's good
- 42:27enough. I have a connection to the to,
- 42:29you know, this thing that came from 40 years ago, but like
- 42:32you're literally encompassed in it when you're in my gorg.
- 42:36That's pretty cool. Yeah, yeah, it's, it's pretty
- 42:43wild. Yeah, it is wild.
- 42:46And I think it's the storyteller is also OG.
- 42:49Really. She's been refurbished.
- 42:51Yeah, Yeah, I heard. That.
- 42:52But that's cool. Yeah.
- 42:54I mean, I have to assume like most of those background
- 42:56characters are, you know, just, you know, why would you rebuild,
- 43:00you know, some of these hyper specific characters, but like
- 43:03they've been sitting in a drawer for decades, so why not just use
- 43:05them? Yeah, The Cave creatures, yes,
- 43:07all the background fraggles are all new builds, but all those,
- 43:11most of those cave creatures and the rock monsters and stuff that
- 43:14the soft foam doesn't degrade, which is amazing.
- 43:17So the the squishy, the squishy mango bird and the Little Rock
- 43:21monstery creatures, all those things that they are probably
- 43:24repainted or touched up or something.
- 43:26But other than that, it's like that foam just doesn't doesn't
- 43:30rot. It's amazing.
- 43:32That's cool. There's a Bagooni.
- 43:34Bagooni is renamed. I have a shot of a terrified
- 43:39monkey next to Bagooni. I'll probably never post but it
- 43:43was like oh. PTSD.
- 43:46Yeah, yeah, right. Yeah.
- 43:49Her her abusive ex. Yeah, kind of.
- 43:54Scary. Let's talk a little bit about
- 43:55Ma. She doesn't show up much in this
- 43:57episode, but so in season one, we were the fans were kind of
- 44:03complaining a little bit about the fact that Ma and PA Gorg are
- 44:06like barely seen outside the castle.
- 44:08Like they kind of just stick their head out the window and
- 44:10have a couple lines and then retreat back.
- 44:13So how does it feel to get to do so much more with Ma Gorg in the
- 44:16season? Oh, it's, it's a, it's a totally
- 44:19different zone. Like they're full body
- 44:21characters and so they don't really play that well when it's
- 44:25just a shot of your face peeking out a window and then getting to
- 44:30play with them out in the space, interacting with each other,
- 44:33dancing, like it's just so much fun.
- 44:36And it's kind of there's like an infinite potential to improve,
- 44:40improve upon it and and find the nuances of these characters and
- 44:45and how they live. Like I got to do.
- 44:46There's A and shot in this, I think this episode that Jordan
- 44:50Canning encouraged me to do where Ma is walking back into
- 44:53the castle and she goes. She's wagging her bomb, yeah.
- 44:57Side to side. Sachet.
- 45:00Yeah. And that was a discovery where
- 45:02it's like the puppets torso is so large that in order to
- 45:08articulate the the booty, I think I, I think I like
- 45:12sandwiched my elbows into the side of the puppet and then used
- 45:16that force to like be able to twist the booty because of
- 45:19course, like the puppet's booty isn't connected to my booty.
- 45:21There's no right. It's like, yeah.
- 45:24So there's always like we're trying to figure out how they
- 45:28can sit and lie down without the torsos collapsing.
- 45:32And but so much fun getting to play with Sandra O'Shea and Andy
- 45:38Hayward, who are in inside of Junior and Pennsylvania.
- 45:41And yeah, it's it was, it was. I can't wait to do more.
- 45:48Hopefully. Hopefully.
- 45:50Hopefully I, I love that that this podcast, we're really
- 45:53getting down to like how Gorg booties work, I think.
- 45:56That's yeah. We're doing fine.
- 45:59Yeah, none of the to the meat of the matter here.
- 46:02Yeah, so Junior has discovered that he has new straw, a new
- 46:09crop of strawberries in his garden.
- 46:13Oh, right next to he. He calls out his prize radish,
- 46:16Geraldine, which is also a reference to the old show.
- 46:21But, yeah, strawberries, they're everywhere.
- 46:23That's it. Might be important.
- 46:25We'll see. Keep watching, kids.
- 46:28Yeah. In the next scene, Moki is
- 46:31teaching a painting class, or at least leading a painting class
- 46:35with the other Fraggles, but she is very distracted by taking
- 46:38care of Lanford. All the Fraggles are wearing
- 46:41very cute little smocks and they have paint on the end of their
- 46:45bolubiases they're using as paintbrushes.
- 46:48What is what is this substance that's at the end of their
- 46:51tails? Like is it just like a like a
- 46:54piece of plastic that it's been clipped on or something else?
- 46:58Yeah, it's like plastic, like it's like super bendy and shiny.
- 47:05I don't know how they do it. I don't know how they do it.
- 47:08I mean, I imagine acrylic acrylic paint is like liquid
- 47:11plastic, right? So I imagine you could take a
- 47:13smooth surface like glass or plexi, paint a thick layer of
- 47:16acrylic paint onto it, peel it up when it's dry, and then you
- 47:21know, like double stick it to a tail or something.
- 47:25I'm sure it's way more difficult and complicated than that.
- 47:28Yeah, just something that won't leach color onto the puppet.
- 47:31So when they splatter Boober, of course, those are all like
- 47:34basically stickers because they can't, you know, put actual
- 47:37paint on them. I just remember that that scene
- 47:39was very hard to shoot because the easels are all in a in a
- 47:44semi circle and then the rock that Ingrid is under.
- 47:49And so we all have just very limited space and all of those
- 47:52easels are on a wooden something to hold them up.
- 47:56So I just remember a lot of tripping and I think we all had
- 48:01an assistant to do the tail to do the.
- 48:03Painting part. And so it's like holding the
- 48:06body away but looking over the shoulder and then knowing when
- 48:10to do this to Boober. And this slaps him in the face.
- 48:12It was very, it took a long time.
- 48:14I remember, I remember that and then figuring out what the what
- 48:19the selfie would be. Little selfie bit that was.
- 48:23That was interesting too. Yeah, let's let's talk about
- 48:28that for a second, because I think first of all, when the
- 48:32first time I watched this episode, when Moki says we'll
- 48:34just do a selfie. And I thought my first that in
- 48:37that instant is no, don't try to throw like like current slang,
- 48:44you know, like selfie. What is that like?
- 48:45Of course, not thinking the fact that like they don't even have a
- 48:47camera. And yes, so she and and Lanford
- 48:52pose, she runs and paints a little bit.
- 48:54Pose again, runs and paints a little bit.
- 48:56I was just watching her go back and forth, hysterical.
- 49:00But yeah, you you have to hit that same pose posing at no one
- 49:04in particular, by the way, over and over again.
- 49:07Is that was that difficult? It was a challenge to see it in
- 49:11the script and go, oh crap, I have to make this come to life
- 49:14somehow. And so Ingrid and I are going,
- 49:16huh, how do we do this? How do we do it, you know, and
- 49:22how do we physically execute it? And how do we come up with
- 49:25something that's funny? So I think we, we I seem to
- 49:29recall that we threw a few ideas around, but I think this is this
- 49:32was the one that we settled on that we pose and then, you know,
- 49:36Monkey remembers it goes and paints a little bit and then
- 49:39pose again. OK, yeah, yeah.
- 49:40OK. So it was, it was tricky to do,
- 49:44but it was one of those times where you see something in a
- 49:46script and go, OK, I gotta, I gotta pull this off.
- 49:50Yeah. So yeah, yeah, I thought it came
- 49:54out very, very funny. So thanks.
- 49:57And Ingrid, you were so so because Lanford's on in the pot
- 50:01on the rock. So Ingrid has her basically her
- 50:03head shoved into the Styrofoam rock so that her arm can get
- 50:07through the rock and through the pot and into the puppet.
- 50:11So yeah, you were pretty uncomfy that day.
- 50:13I get real squashed. Yeah, and and you have to hit an
- 50:19the exact same pose like four or five times.
- 50:22Well, I think the fun thing about it is like Moki could
- 50:25suggest anything and Lanford would play along and he doesn't
- 50:28necessarily even really know what they're doing, but he just
- 50:31knows that she's going ha, so he's going blah and then she
- 50:34runs away and comes back and goes ha, he goes blah.
- 50:36That's. Right.
- 50:37You were like a half feet behind.
- 50:39Yeah, she could do anything and he would copy it, right?
- 50:41Because he just thinks she's the coolest and loves her so much
- 50:44and. I did notice that like he is
- 50:46kind of like we're doing this again, OK.
- 50:48Yeah, he doesn't really know what's going on.
- 50:51Sure. Yeah.
- 50:52He's just, he's like, you know, my cool big sister is doing
- 50:55this, so I'm doing it. Yeah, that's great.
- 50:58Yeah. Red confronts Moki about the
- 51:02Lanford situation. She says ever since Lanford Show
- 51:06Up showed up, she's been a little obsessed.
- 51:09And as she says this, Moki has gotten into a pot and is sitting
- 51:14there with fake leaves on her hands, which is adorable.
- 51:18And so you got, you got to see what it felt like, Donna, to be
- 51:22inside of a pot like Ingrid has been for this whole episode,
- 51:25right? Yeah.
- 51:26So she's embracing the joys of soil living, which sounds like a
- 51:30real thing. Right.
- 51:33Well, it is. There's a there's a whole
- 51:34movement of people who say you have to stand in with your bare
- 51:37feet on the dirt 10 minutes a day to ground your ions or
- 51:41something supposed. To be good.
- 51:43OK, Yeah. I'm all over that.
- 51:46All over that, yeah. Some of us don't live anywhere
- 51:49near dirt, you know. Just get a Tupperware container,
- 51:54fill it with some dirt, it's the same thing.
- 51:55Sure. OK, Fair enough.
- 51:57Yeah, I gotta get those ions through my feet.
- 52:00Yeah. But yeah, they have a big
- 52:02argument. Smoky storms out with Lanford.
- 52:06Meanwhile, the doosers are continuing to hang wind chimes
- 52:09all over the rock. And Powder Pin says everything's
- 52:11going perfectly, which is, as we all know when you say that on
- 52:14ATV show, the the rule is that something has to go terribly
- 52:19wrong. Large Marvin shows up and he's
- 52:22starting to eat her wind chime. She says, why can't you just eat
- 52:25the buildings? And he says, what buildings?
- 52:27Because they got so distracted building these wind chimes, they
- 52:30forgot to build new buildings. And not for nothing, it's Cotter
- 52:36Pin's fault for making these wind chimes edible to begin
- 52:38with. You know, that's kind of that's
- 52:42what that's what I do, Joe. That's what just what I do.
- 52:47Sorry, Cotter Pin. Yeah.
- 52:50I'm so curious, sorry. It also feels like a way you
- 52:57could be like, conversation over Joe, move on to the next topic.
- 53:03Yeah. Sorry.
- 53:04Angry, you were saying? No, I'm so curious, do the fans,
- 53:07how did the fans feel about Marvin?
- 53:08Because I love him and he's so weird and he doesn't really like
- 53:14he's so unique from all the rest of the Fraggle designs.
- 53:16And you're like, what is this like Melty Pink?
- 53:20Creature. No, I love Large Marvin.
- 53:24So in I think it was the last episode with the the twisty
- 53:29turny thon and he's got this like beautiful tracksuit on,
- 53:32which is exactly what a guy like large Marvin would would wear.
- 53:37And, you know, in season one of Back to the Rock, when there's
- 53:41the like the council of really, it's like all of the like,
- 53:46quote, UN quote adults Fraggles and that like Large Marvin gets
- 53:50to be a part of that. And yeah, he just brings
- 53:54something really unique to Fraggle Rock.
- 53:57And like any Fraggle who visually looks different is
- 54:01automatically exciting. But I and I'm grateful that
- 54:05unlike the original series, even though his name is Large Marvin,
- 54:09there's no like fat jokes. No, like he does like to eat.
- 54:12They all like to eat. But yeah, there's no, there's
- 54:15no, you know, fat phobia surrounding Large Marvin.
- 54:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:22Yeah, that tracksuit is just is everything.
- 54:25Beautiful. Good.
- 54:26Yeah. Now if we can just bring back
- 54:28Marlon Fraggle and team them up again.
- 54:31Do you remember Marlon? Remind me?
- 54:36Yeah. So he's, he's like a Peter
- 54:37Laurie character. He had, like, one big eye, one
- 54:40small eye. Yeah, There.
- 54:44Yeah. It's like, yeah, there.
- 54:45Yeah. Ingrid's doing an impression.
- 54:48I will say the one thing that distresses me from the OG series
- 54:52is the episodes where the fraggles have beards.
- 54:54I just. Tell me why.
- 54:58I just don't like it's instinctual.
- 54:59I just look at it and go Nope, no goatees, get them off.
- 55:03So do you hate the the world's oldest Fraggle?
- 55:06No, no, no, because that's like a a specific character beard.
- 55:10That makes sense, but it's like the weird kind of chin strap
- 55:13goatees. I'm actually, I'm going to make
- 55:16a lot of fans really mad by saying this, but I'm being
- 55:18honest. Are you talking about just like
- 55:19when the the fur from the puppet is like too far up on the chin
- 55:23or they literally have a beard? You watch season one, I think
- 55:26it's especially in the opening credits.
- 55:27There's some of the background fraggles who have these like
- 55:31goatees that are, you know, specific goatees on the.
- 55:36It's weird, I don't like it all. Right, I'm going to look for
- 55:38that. I can't.
- 55:38I can't. I'm having.
- 55:39I'm going to be honest. I'm having trouble picturing it,
- 55:41which is a good thing. Yeah.
- 55:42That means that means that what if it's creepy?
- 55:44It has escaped my notice. It's.
- 55:47Specifically creepy. I just don't like.
- 55:50I don't know why that's OK. There's only two Fraggles who
- 55:53are allowed to have facial hair, and it's the world's Fraggle and
- 55:56traveling mat. Everyone else?
- 55:57Yeah, lean shaving or go home. Yep.
- 55:59Yep. Yeah, taking a stance.
- 56:03Bring on the haters. So we get our next song here.
- 56:09It's the song just takes two. This song, this is such a
- 56:13highlight of this episode, the two of you performing this song.
- 56:18Lots of singing, plants in the background.
- 56:21I'm sure they all have names. We don't need to go through
- 56:23them, but they're all visually beautiful.
- 56:27There's so much great choreography here.
- 56:29Tell me what's the process for like learning the choreography
- 56:35for a Fraggle scene? Well, we actually had like
- 56:44rehearsal time on this because because we block shoot and this
- 56:48was our first block. This episode one O 3 was in the
- 56:52first block. So we have like 1/2 day ish
- 56:55rehearsal time and that's when we choreographed it all.
- 57:00So it's between Ingrid and me and Johnny who assisted me and
- 57:05Amy who assisted you. We kind of just, we were
- 57:09choreographing it and learning it all at the same time because
- 57:12we're all pretty experienced puppeteers.
- 57:16So how about this? Does this look good?
- 57:17Does this look good? Yeah, let's do this.
- 57:19OK. So after this, we'll do this
- 57:20bit. OK.
- 57:21And so we basically, and I think someone probably filmed it just
- 57:25so we would have a record of it so that we would remember on
- 57:28shoot day. But yeah.
- 57:30And little things like when Moki swaps sides, Johnny has to let
- 57:35go of the rods and I have to kind of grab them and then run
- 57:39to the other side. And then he has to meet me on
- 57:41the other side by going around Amy in front and then grabbing
- 57:46the rods again. So, and they're both Amy and
- 57:49Johnny are on rolling stools, so they'll be a little lower than
- 57:52Ingrid and me. But yeah, it's, it's quite.
- 57:56And you see, I think I posted something on social media where
- 57:58you kind of see it, but I don't know if you can see how the the
- 58:01rod thing happens. But yeah, it's it's kind of it's
- 58:05intense. So we knew we'd get that first
- 58:08chorus because you lend me that whole bit through.
- 58:13So we did that pretty much all in one.
- 58:15And then the in the background bits that the little creatures
- 58:18in the background, the background plants had, they have
- 58:20their own choreography too that they're doing.
- 58:24So yeah. Are you?
- 58:26Literally like, are you literally like in one of those
- 58:29rehearsal rooms with the big mirror as you're doing it, or
- 58:32are you on set as you're kind of developing this choreography?
- 58:34We were on set. Yeah.
- 58:36With just regular lights, No, no fancy lights, no fog machine or
- 58:40anything. And I think we, and we did have
- 58:42a camera because that's how we saw monitors.
- 58:44So they just sort of throw a camera up and we're just using,
- 58:47you know, the regular house lights to sort of lay it all
- 58:51down and get a, a basic idea. And then for like the twirl, we
- 58:58knew that we, they said, can you, you know, sometimes when
- 59:01puppets have their hands locked and they're spinning, it's, it's
- 59:05one puppeteer that happens fairly often.
- 59:07But this was the first time that I, I put a line of tape on the
- 59:10floor so that I could stay within frame as I spin
- 59:13backwards. Because when you're spinning,
- 59:15you can't even really check a monitor anyway.
- 59:18So I just sort of made sure that their eye lines that were
- 59:20looking at each other and then spun and then got the monitor
- 59:25and it worked out okay. But that was the first time I
- 59:27had Lanford on, which was fun, but it's quite a, it's quite a
- 59:32heavy load to have Moki, who's pretty heavy anyway, and then
- 59:35Lanford and the pot. Yeah, they go and all that.
- 59:40But gosh, it was fun. Then and director Jordan Canning
- 59:44really storyboarded out that musical number too, and how to
- 59:47really like, you know, had some specific requests for that kind
- 59:51of 90s best best friend cheesy style choreography of like
- 59:55back-to-back and pointing and all this really cute.
- 59:59Cute. Yes, and of course, The Dirty
- 1:00:01Dancing lift. That.
- 1:00:03Is such an iconic moment for this season.
- 1:00:07It was in, I don't know if you knew, like it's in all the
- 1:00:09promotional materials that were sent to us before the show
- 1:00:11premiered. Oh, that's right.
- 1:00:13Yeah. And I love that little Lanford
- 1:00:17is trembling and straining like she's oblivious.
- 1:00:21You know, she's just like, woo Hoo.
- 1:00:23She's living in a bus life. He's.
- 1:00:26He's a plan. He's not that.
- 1:00:28Strong are you? Are you?
- 1:00:29Arms are made of cellulose. Sure.
- 1:00:33He's he's lifting her with the power of photosynthesis.
- 1:00:38Are you both on a on a like a green screen or blue screen in
- 1:00:42that moment, or are you just kind of matted out later on?
- 1:00:45Donna was in the blue suit, right?
- 1:00:48Johnny and I were in the blue suit.
- 1:00:49I think Johnny was working the tail in that shot.
- 1:00:51So we're literally behind her and then we like let go.
- 1:00:55And then you see the puppet's legs and they get that for
- 1:00:58reference. And then they put it all
- 1:01:00together at the end and you were underneath a rah.
- 1:01:05Now who was doing your rod? Oh, your rods were attached to
- 1:01:07Moki weren't? They Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:01:08So Lanford's leafy hands were pinned to Moki's body.
- 1:01:12And then. Yeah.
- 1:01:14And we shot that on the actual Fraggle Rock set.
- 1:01:17So that wasn't shot in blue screen, but just Donna and
- 1:01:19Johnny wore blue suits. So they get like.
- 1:01:21That's cool. It looks so good, it really
- 1:01:24does. Yeah, I was really happy with
- 1:01:26how that turned out. And that song is just, I think
- 1:01:29I've said this before, but when I when I heard the demo of that
- 1:01:31song, I was like, I get to sing this.
- 1:01:34It's so. Great.
- 1:01:36And I it's the type of song where you listen to one time and
- 1:01:39then you can sing it because it's such a.
- 1:01:41Yeah. So great, it's just.
- 1:01:43Such a near worm. It's a bop.
- 1:01:45Well, the best part of the song, you know what I'm going to say?
- 1:01:49It's Lanford's verse. Right.
- 1:01:52That Lanford sings a whole verse.
- 1:01:54It's not just like a little bit of like a word here or there,
- 1:01:57like, you know, like a like if it was like Bunsen and Beeker
- 1:01:59singing a song and beepers just kind of beeper, excuse me,
- 1:02:02Beaker is just, you know, singing a couple of lines here
- 1:02:05and there. But like you get a whole like,
- 1:02:08what is Lanford saying? It's amazing.
- 1:02:11Very emotional. Yeah.
- 1:02:13Pouring his heart out. And you?
- 1:02:15Put your own spin on it. At the end you went that was all
- 1:02:19you that wasn't on the demo. So the demo has someone doing a
- 1:02:23Lanford impression. Yeah, yeah, yes.
- 1:02:26And a moki. Impression.
- 1:02:28Sam is one of Harvey's team and he has an amazing falsetto, so
- 1:02:32he does all he's Moki's voice and I don't.
- 1:02:35I guess Andrew was probably the voice of Lanford.
- 1:02:38I think so, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:41We've got to hear these. Demos to us, they disappear.
- 1:02:47But yeah, yeah, demos are amazing.
- 1:02:49And they all Harvey's team. They, they're amazing singers in
- 1:02:54their own right and they, they do the harmonies, they do all
- 1:02:57our parts and they really, really try to have the spirit of
- 1:03:01our character and it's so helpful.
- 1:03:03They do a great job of of singing the demos in a fraggly
- 1:03:06character you like in Yeah, in a fraggly spirit, so.
- 1:03:12Yeah, at this point in the episode we get our travelling
- 1:03:15mat postcard. He's at a gym and he's getting
- 1:03:18everything wrong about how to use gym equipment, which can be
- 1:03:21dangerous. Like you, you shouldn't use gym
- 1:03:23equipment if you don't know how to use it.
- 1:03:25You could get hurt. It's not really what this is
- 1:03:27about, but I'm just saying that is APSA.
- 1:03:31He sends back tube sock, which Buber seems pretty excited to
- 1:03:35see, and the postcard says if hat guy says it looks like a
- 1:03:40giant sock, be sure to tell him it's much more than that and you
- 1:03:44know what it is. I think Buber would have known
- 1:03:46that anyway because he feels pretty strongly about socks.
- 1:03:51I just love that they use the phrase hat guy.
- 1:03:53Yeah. Who's that guy?
- 1:03:55Which is funny, because Matt also wears a hat.
- 1:03:58He's also a hat guy. They decide someone should talk
- 1:04:04to Moki, who understands what it's like to obsess over things.
- 1:04:06And so although I feel like they all kind of obsess over things
- 1:04:10in their own way, they give the job to Boober, who is currently
- 1:04:13obsessing over cleaning this filthy sock.
- 1:04:18Uber finds Moki in Lanford. Moki is finishing a story, she
- 1:04:23says. And that's when I realized that
- 1:04:25I could taste colors. Is this an ad Lib Donna?
- 1:04:29No, that was, I know. They were so good.
- 1:04:34I, I, I loved that, Yeah. So no, that was all credit to
- 1:04:38the writers there, which I guess.
- 1:04:39Was well done. Johnny and with with Matt and
- 1:04:42Alex, Yeah. Yeah, that's, that sounds
- 1:04:45exactly something you would say, Buber tells her like he knows
- 1:04:49exactly what she's going through.
- 1:04:50It's so much easier to focus on what you can control over what
- 1:04:53you can't. And Moki admits that she does
- 1:04:57need help. And she feels like she's
- 1:04:58sinking. She's literally sinking,
- 1:05:02figuratively, but also literally because she's slipping into sink
- 1:05:06soil. And this is a great image too,
- 1:05:10where like, her feet are firmly in the soil and Moki is wearing
- 1:05:15the like, her green dress and her arms are out.
- 1:05:17She looks like a big plant. So tell me how this scene is
- 1:05:23filmed. Like how is this shot composed?
- 1:05:27Well, we shot the the bits where she the scene with Buber doesn't
- 1:05:32have any effect or anything. It's just the two of them, a
- 1:05:36half body mochi and everything. She's just in the area.
- 1:05:39So we don't have the soil yet. But I just loved that scene so
- 1:05:43much. I just thought it was really
- 1:05:46beautiful. And I mean, I think we all can
- 1:05:50relate. And I think in this post
- 1:05:52pandemic world, unfortunately, kids can relate to, to, to
- 1:05:57overcompensating with, with focus and care when on, on
- 1:06:02something that you can control when life feels uncontrollable.
- 1:06:05And I just, I just think it was lovely and I loved it.
- 1:06:09That was that moment between Buber and Moki I thought was
- 1:06:12just super, super special. And then when we get to the
- 1:06:16dirt, they're little like, is it cork pellets or?
- 1:06:23Rubber. It's like a rubbery substance,
- 1:06:25kind of like kind of like the rubber that's on the bottom of
- 1:06:27those kids playgrounds, but it's all the dirt is made out of lots
- 1:06:32of little tiny nubbins of this rubbery stuff with the.
- 1:06:35Crumbles. Yeah, and Donna, so it's fine.
- 1:06:38Rained down on her. She.
- 1:06:40Hides, yes. So I was, I'm trying to
- 1:06:43remember. Oh, you know what it was.
- 1:06:46Brendan was underneath, underneath pulling Moki.
- 1:06:51And so Brendan's actually getting rained on and I have a
- 1:06:54blue suit and I'm going through the back of Moki's head and then
- 1:06:58two other people are doing her rods sort of sticking out.
- 1:07:02So, so yeah, it's it's Brendan, I think that's pulling her
- 1:07:05through this gasket and. Her toes.
- 1:07:08They're raining down and stuff. And so we have to push her up,
- 1:07:11pull her down. And incidentally, holding a
- 1:07:15puppet straight out is one of the hardest positions to
- 1:07:20puppeteer in when you're holding a puppet absolutely straight
- 1:07:23out. For me, it's just, it's just
- 1:07:25killer. But luckily we didn't take that
- 1:07:27many. Yeah, it didn't take that many
- 1:07:29takes. But I just loved the the effect.
- 1:07:33And even before that, when you see at the very end of the song
- 1:07:35where you see her little feet and start just start to sink
- 1:07:38into the soil, that's Johnny doing the feet, by the way.
- 1:07:40I was, I was off doing something else.
- 1:07:42But yes, the fun puppetry effects and then later.
- 1:07:47Yeah, no, the the slingshot like this.
- 1:07:51Oh my God. So later she is halfway down and
- 1:07:55so that is me getting getting rained on.
- 1:07:58But then when they the grabby flappy and then, yeah, then it's
- 1:08:03the stunt Moki flying through, which we shot in slow MO for our
- 1:08:08own BTS fun, yeah. I have I have a slow MO video of
- 1:08:11it somewhere. And well, Jurgen, who's just
- 1:08:14such a brilliant puppet builder and Wrangler was so excited to
- 1:08:17have this idea where he fed a rubber piece of rubber tubing
- 1:08:20through the sock, the grabby flappy and attached it on one
- 1:08:24end to Moki and then the on the other end so that you could
- 1:08:27stretch it and pull it and then let go.
- 1:08:29And Moki would be pulled by the elastic to rock it out of the
- 1:08:33dirt and smack into the fraggles.
- 1:08:35So it was a very, very lever rig to make the actual effect of
- 1:08:39somebody being pulled out of, you know, pulled out of a hole
- 1:08:44and that real smack. So it's that's all real.
- 1:08:47That's all shot real. That's not.
- 1:08:49And there were two Moki's in that scene.
- 1:08:51I think Amy was in the hole with stunt Moki and let go.
- 1:08:54And she would just like, OK and let go.
- 1:08:56She got the link. And then they all had to fall
- 1:08:58down. And then Moki gets up with them.
- 1:09:00So I'm kind of hiding underneath to to get up with Amy in the
- 1:09:04hole doing the yeah, the stunt. Muggy.
- 1:09:07So fun Little Texas switch. There.
- 1:09:10Oh, I love it. I love a good, good stuff.
- 1:09:15The episode kind of ends. We see the actually first we
- 1:09:17were talking about these these long sweeping shots.
- 1:09:19We get another one of those that's kind of starts at Doc's
- 1:09:22Fraggle Hole and goes underground through Fraggle
- 1:09:25Rock. We see some fun creatures like
- 1:09:27skin Frith and like this blue armadillo looking guy in an ink
- 1:09:31spot. I don't know if you know who I'm
- 1:09:33talking about when I say blue armadillo looking guy.
- 1:09:35There's another one where like I don't think we know what what he
- 1:09:38or it is called you. Mean the grey blue rock monster.
- 1:09:42It's a blue rock. Monster early tale.
- 1:09:46See, now, of course I don't have it in front of me, but I'll
- 1:09:48just, I'll like e-mail you a picture of it and be like, what
- 1:09:51is this thing? You might not actually be blue,
- 1:09:53but be lit with a blue light because.
- 1:09:55I can't that could be they are underground, so there could be
- 1:09:58any kind of light or, or like the rocks kind of affecting what
- 1:10:01I feel like I'm, I think I'm seeing on screen.
- 1:10:05It doesn't matter. This is this is only important
- 1:10:07to like 12 of us. So Red and Mochi are sitting on
- 1:10:13Red's hammock, which is also a cool visual that like, like
- 1:10:16there's weight to the Fraggles when you see them on something
- 1:10:18like a hammock. I love that Red says that
- 1:10:23Lanford isn't all that bad and they can go visit him whenever
- 1:10:27they whenever Monkey wants. And Monkey says great, because
- 1:10:30Lanford's going to live with them and Lanford's right outside
- 1:10:33the window and Red is not happy about that.
- 1:10:37And then Pokey shows up again, playing their flute and a little
- 1:10:41bit of chaos as we fade to black.
- 1:10:46Pogie and Lanford, I'd love you know.
- 1:10:49Later we see Pogie pretending to be a plant trying out this time.
- 1:10:55Oh my gosh, that's one of my favorite moments when Kanye was
- 1:10:58was like sort of start Pogey would like start to steal a
- 1:11:02glance. How am I doing?
- 1:11:04Then who the right back into character.
- 1:11:06So flippin funny. Oh my gosh.
- 1:11:09And as Pogey is just my favorite, so brilliant, so
- 1:11:13funny, but it also so authentic. Like, I think he really, really
- 1:11:17deeply understands who Pogey is in that, that beautifully
- 1:11:21innocent character who just wants to be everybody's best
- 1:11:24friend. I would love to see more.
- 1:11:26I want more Pogy, more Pogy and anything.
- 1:11:28Yeah, yeah, yeah. Same.
- 1:11:29I mean, obviously we get a great episode later the season that's
- 1:11:32a fantastic spotlight on Pogy, but I kind of want to see season
- 1:11:37three. I'm, I'm planting this seed,
- 1:11:39another plant pun, but I'm planting this seed that I want
- 1:11:42to see episodes where we don't see the Fraggle 5 at all.
- 1:11:47Like give me a Pogie solo episode or yeah, a large Marvin
- 1:11:52episode or you know, anything. The storyteller episode.
- 1:11:54Like, like, let's dive deep into like, what are they doing when
- 1:11:58Gobo and the rest of them are off on some adventure?
- 1:12:00Like, Condo and I are really fun.
- 1:12:04Yeah, Condo and I were talking about how because there's one
- 1:12:07moment where Pogie and Little Raggo have a little chat about
- 1:12:10what they were doing last night or something.
- 1:12:12And we got, we just riffed on that.
- 1:12:14Like what would Pokey and Raggo, Little Raggo do all night?
- 1:12:16They're probably just be jumping up and down, just like let's
- 1:12:19jump up and down, OK, and then jumping.
- 1:12:21Down all night long. Or yeah, I want to see Pokey's
- 1:12:25world beyond what Pokey does. But like, on their own
- 1:12:28adventures for sure, yeah. I, I wanted to ask this at the
- 1:12:33top of the of the podcast and I, I kind of forgot, but you
- 1:12:36mentioned Little Raggo again and Little Raggo does not appear in
- 1:12:41this episode, but can you explain to me where Little Rag O
- 1:12:46came from? Well that's one of the OG
- 1:12:49puppets. Yes, but like the character?
- 1:12:52Yeah, like, like. It has yet to be disclosed.
- 1:12:56Little Rag O's back story. OK.
- 1:12:59But I they feel to me, they feel like somebody who's really
- 1:13:05interconnected to the rock, but like in a very kind of like a
- 1:13:08background scene kind of way, like little rag O somebody who
- 1:13:11who knows everybody, who knows everything that's going on.
- 1:13:14But, you know, I'm just, I'm just here, don't if you need me
- 1:13:16kind of thing. OK.
- 1:13:18Yeah. All right, so that's that feels
- 1:13:20like a tease for a future storyline in which we're going
- 1:13:25to learn a whole lot more about Lil Raggo.
- 1:13:28You're making promises, Ingrid. Or they can just maintain them.
- 1:13:33Man of mystery kind of mystique. Yes, I love that.
- 1:13:40I just love that when I call Lanford my sweet son, yes, it's
- 1:13:45about my sweet son Lanford. That's the first time she's, you
- 1:13:49know, giving him a a specific type of relationship.
- 1:13:53But I don't know. I don't know when that happened,
- 1:13:55but also when in the lost fraggles episode where course
- 1:14:00Moki doesn't meet slow pokey sadly, but you Lanford, you meet
- 1:14:08your doppelganger, which is a big mushroom that Dan Garza
- 1:14:11puppeteered right? And they Manford, Manford and
- 1:14:16and you sob and throw throw Lanford throws a temper tantrum
- 1:14:19when Moki tries to pull him away.
- 1:14:21And that was all that was all improvised by by you in gay.
- 1:14:26And I think one time I said and I think Moki saying sorry,
- 1:14:29sorry. And then I think one time I said
- 1:14:31he didn't get his nap. I don't think that made it in,
- 1:14:36but I just love it. Yeah, I want a big Deborah
- 1:14:39dandruff. I can identify with that.
- 1:14:41I feel like when you, you know, you make a best friend at the
- 1:14:43playground, they're your best friend for life.
- 1:14:44And then your parent tries to pull you away and it's like.
- 1:14:49Yeah, you made a new best friends.
- 1:14:52Yeah, they really understand each other.
- 1:14:55It's that instant connection we were talking about.
- 1:14:57You, you had, yeah, you had that moment.
- 1:14:58We were like, are we best friends?
- 1:15:00I don't even know your name, but I think we're best friends blah
- 1:15:02blah. Oh, I also have to tell you that
- 1:15:07that Ingrid and I will will leave each other voice messages
- 1:15:11as Moki and Lanford. I have.
- 1:15:14I have Lanford singing me Happy birthday.
- 1:15:17Oh, at least that's nice. I was going to say like, is that
- 1:15:22is that odd that you get a voice message that you literally can't
- 1:15:24understand? But when it's happy birthday, I
- 1:15:26guess you could. I totally understand.
- 1:15:29Oh, excuse me, totally understand.
- 1:15:37Donna and Ingrid, as we wrap up, I would love to know from each
- 1:15:40of you, how do you plan to make the world a little fragglier?
- 1:15:46Angie, do you want to go first? I mean, I think in rewatching
- 1:15:52this episode too, it was like it reminded me how we all, it's not
- 1:15:58just this episode, in rewatching the whole season, it reminds me
- 1:16:02how we all think we're so different.
- 1:16:05Like the, the original vision of Fraggle Rock is all these
- 1:16:07different creatures who don't understand each other.
- 1:16:09They don't understand how they're interconnected and they
- 1:16:11are so deeply interconnected, the Fraggles and the Deuces and
- 1:16:14the Gorks and even the silly creatures.
- 1:16:16And I, I think that's, it's a really good reminder that we can
- 1:16:22get so self focused sometimes and focused in on, on these
- 1:16:27minutiae of things that really don't matter.
- 1:16:29And then the big scheme of things, we're all so similar and
- 1:16:33we really need each other and we need to take care of each other.
- 1:16:37And and that we're deeply and no matter how we, no matter how we
- 1:16:44want it, we're deeply connected and reliant on all of each other
- 1:16:49and, you know, all the natural world and everything.
- 1:16:53So just trying to remember that. That's what I'm going to do.
- 1:17:00Yeah. Beautiful, Donna.
- 1:17:05You know, I really love that we have a lot of themes in the show
- 1:17:09about mental Wellness. And, you know, shooting this
- 1:17:15show during a pandemic, really both seasons, you know, the
- 1:17:21world was kind of not OK. And we had to sort of soldier on
- 1:17:26when, you know, vaccines were being rolled out and who's going
- 1:17:30to get one? And she would get what she would
- 1:17:31not. And we still, we have to wear
- 1:17:33masks. We were wearing masks 11 hours a
- 1:17:35day that we only would drop when we had dialogue.
- 1:17:38And it was circumstances were tough and I maybe that's why we
- 1:17:43all got so close, but that's a little sidebar.
- 1:17:48But I, I think that's why I love this episode so much is to ask
- 1:17:52for help when you, when you need it, because people generally are
- 1:17:57really willing to help. And, and that's what it is for
- 1:18:03me. And, and it's, it's hard for us
- 1:18:05to as adults, I think, to ask for help.
- 1:18:07I'm, I'm still learning that myself, but but when someone
- 1:18:13drops their armor just to say, Hey, I need, I need help with
- 1:18:17this. I allowing others to, to be
- 1:18:22their best selves and actually help you.
- 1:18:25It helps everyone. And then together you can, you
- 1:18:30know, solve, solve the problem or just feel a little better.
- 1:18:35Yeah, yeah. Perfect.
- 1:18:37I love that. Well, Donna Kimball, Ingrid
- 1:18:40Hansen, thank you both so much for being here.
- 1:18:44Thank you for everything you brought to Fraggle Rock and for
- 1:18:47bringing Fraggle Rock back into our lives.
- 1:18:49So very important now more than ever.
- 1:18:53And yeah, and we hope that we'll be getting a season three and we
- 1:18:58can do a third season of this podcast as well and have you
- 1:19:01both back. Yes, right, Lanford.
