- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with Jim Moore, the Yukon Football Coaches Show, Huskies
- 0:02Speaker 1: taking five and two record to Rice to play the
- 0:05Speaker 1: Owls in Houston on Saturday afternoon. Jim, let's talk a
- 0:09Speaker 1: little bit about their personnel. Chase Chase Jenkins runs the
- 0:14Speaker 1: ball well and also throws well, sixty for eighty nine
- 0:17Speaker 1: four touchdowns only one interception. What's your thought on him
- 0:21Speaker 1: as in your first view of his mesla QB.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Well, he's dynamic athletically, and you know, this is a
- 0:28Speaker 2: team that believe that they have most rushing attempts in
- 0:32Speaker 2: the country behind the three Service Academy. So they've made
- 0:34Speaker 2: a concerted effort to run the ball, and they've got quarterbacks,
- 0:37Speaker 2: including this guy. They can run it, but he can
- 0:39Speaker 2: also throw it, and he's done a good job of
- 0:42Speaker 2: protecting the football in the opportunities that he's had to
- 0:45Speaker 2: throw the football, not throwing interceptions, and also taking care
- 0:48Speaker 2: of it, you know when he is running it. So
- 0:50Speaker 2: I have a lot of respect for him. I think
- 0:52Speaker 2: he's a good player. It's an unorthodox type of offense
- 0:55Speaker 2: that we don't see much, that you don't see a
- 0:57Speaker 2: lot in college football, so it demands that we have
- 1:00Speaker 2: you know, a great look from our service team and
- 1:03Speaker 2: that we get a real good understanding of, you know,
- 1:06Speaker 2: the types of plays we're going to see on Saturday.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Yeah, their head coach, Scott abel is a first year guy,
- 1:11Speaker 1: but it was at Washington and Lee and Davidson. He
- 1:14Speaker 1: won forty seven games, I think in seven years and
- 1:17Speaker 1: his team's among the rushing leaders every year. So that
- 1:22Speaker 1: brings us to the running back number ten, Quintin Jackson
- 1:25Speaker 1: five hundred and seven yards and there's another guy Dale
- 1:28Speaker 1: Dale and Alexander as well as rush for almost four hundred.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Talk about running backs and in a running offense, they
- 1:35Speaker 1: know they're getting a lot of carries, and you'll hear
- 1:38Speaker 1: people say, well, the more they carry it, the better
- 1:40Speaker 1: they get. Is that a true statement?
- 1:45Speaker 2: Well, I think that. I think that depends if Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 2: if they're getting better as they're canidate more than it's
- 1:50Speaker 2: a true statement. If they're carrying it more and they're
- 1:52Speaker 2: getting stuff, no, it's not a true statement, you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: but I think there is something to running Typically if
- 1:59Speaker 2: you're getting stuff, not going to get to keep running it,
- 2:01Speaker 2: you know. So yeah, there's a there's some truth to that,
- 2:03Speaker 2: but it's I don't think it's just as simple as that.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I think there's some things to it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so Quentin Jackson just looking at him and he
- 2:11Speaker 1: where's number ten for them? As you you analyze a
- 2:15Speaker 1: running back, what's the first thing you look at as
- 2:17Speaker 1: a defensive guy, which you are.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I mean, the ability to avoid tackles, collision balance, Uh,
- 2:31Speaker 2: you know, his ability to move latterly and then accelerate
- 2:34Speaker 2: vertically quickly, And those are things you see with this
- 2:36Speaker 2: guy like he you know, sometimes he looks like he
- 2:39Speaker 2: shot out of a cannon and you better be on
- 2:41Speaker 2: it and you run fit because if he gets to
- 2:43Speaker 2: the open field, it's going to be tough to get him.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And uh, you know, he might not be the biggest
- 2:47Speaker 2: guy in the world, but he's got some juice to him.
- 2:50Speaker 2: And uh, yeah, he's a he's a he's a good
- 2:52Speaker 2: football player.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And the other thing about playing a team that rushes
- 2:56Speaker 1: the ball, if they're successful, they have the ball a lot.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You don't have the ball as much. That can put
- 3:02Speaker 1: pressure on Ukon right if for Ice is able to
- 3:05Speaker 1: get their running game going and keeps the ball, is
- 3:08Speaker 1: that one of the keys do you think coming up
- 3:10Speaker 1: on Saturday?
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what it felt like that this past
- 3:13Speaker 2: Saturday at BC. You know, they were kind of hogging
- 3:15Speaker 2: the ball. Fortunately, you know we got it, we were
- 3:17Speaker 2: able to score. But it does put some pressure on
- 3:20Speaker 2: your offense because you may have limited possessions. Now, this
- 3:23Speaker 2: isn't necessarily a team that's just gonna slow the game down,
- 3:26Speaker 2: like maybe an Army Navy. I'll just say Army because
- 3:29Speaker 2: I've that's really the only team I played since I've
- 3:31Speaker 2: been here. But uh, you know, they're gonna they're not
- 3:34Speaker 2: gonna huddle. They're gonna get up on the line of
- 3:36Speaker 2: scrimmage and they're gonna go. They're gonna go at different tempos.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So they're more like a traditional offense in that college
- 3:42Speaker 2: offense at least in today's game. Then then you would think.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But yeah, if a team gets their neck up on
- 3:49Speaker 2: the run, you know, it does make it puts a
- 3:52Speaker 2: lot of pressure on everybody, all right, puts pressure on
- 3:54Speaker 2: you on third down, and if they're scoring touchdowns, it
- 3:57Speaker 2: puts pressure on your offense to match it quick because
- 3:59Speaker 2: you're not gonna get many possessions.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Yep. So assignment number one slow the running game down
- 4:04Speaker 1: at Rice on Saturday, coach appreciated so much good run
- 4:08Speaker 1: here one four in a row, but the only one
- 4:11Speaker 1: that matters, as you have said, is the next one.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Let's get the next one.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yep, I agree, Thanks Mike.
- 4:17Speaker 1: All right, that's Jim Mora back with more Lee Malette
- 4:20Speaker 1: coming up and Joe Faren as we continue on the
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yukon Football Coaches Show from lear Field.
