- 0:15it, right? Is that what it is?

- 0:53a little bit of beer, a little bit of that adult spirit.
- 0:56You already know You're going to learn something And that's why I created this
- 1:01podcast And welcome to the legendary Legendary podcast of the Deconstructed
- 1:06Topic Podcast And we got a good one A little short one, good one,
- 1:10I am very aware to my beautiful ladies, women out there listening to my podcast.
- 1:15It is the Woman's Month History. Let's go.
- 1:21So today is going to be a little sidetracked. So shout out to my beautiful,
- 1:24beautiful woman out there.
- 1:26I'll definitely believe we'll be doing a lot of beautiful podcasts in regards
- 1:30to Woman's History Month.
- 1:32But today I just want to get something where a little personal,
- 1:37a little something, something thing is very rare when I kind of touch bases
- 1:42when someone passes away,
- 1:44whether it's at whatever the platform they're in, it's very rare when I talk
- 1:49about it here on my podcast.
- 1:51If I'm not mistaken, maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm wrong, but you know, just what I'm saying.
- 1:56I just want to touch bases because it is something kind of endearing to me,
- 2:00and it's the passing of the legendary football coach who coached many teams,
- 2:05many teams out there, and one of the teams that Lou Holt,
- 2:10coach with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Let's go.
- 2:17Let's go. So welcome to my podcast and my peoples out there.
- 2:22Once again, shout out to Women History Month. I got you, ladies.
- 2:25I got you, my beautiful woman. There's a lot to talk about.
- 2:28It's always going to be 24-7, 365, 12 months that I could talk about the history of women.
- 2:34But we're going to focus a little bit in March. So we will be doing that.
- 2:38And I say we, Deconstructing Topic Podcast, and you out there,
- 2:41my legend of people that are listening.
- 2:44But today is just one of those things that I just want to kind of say.
- 2:48Lou Holtz, which is the legendary. And if you're not a football fan,
- 2:52please listen, because this is going to be good.
- 2:54And as a matter of fact, let me tell you this quote by Lou Holtz,
- 2:57because this gentleman, I tell you, this gentleman, I don't know what to tell you.
- 3:02But I'm going to tell you why am I doing a podcast on him.
- 3:06And he just passed away a couple of days ago at the age of 89.
- 3:09So to tell you about Lou Holtz once again, and I'm hoping that you are listening.
- 3:12I'm pretty sure you're listening to the podcast now.
- 3:15We're going to start with one of the quotes that he said. Your wife is not your
- 3:19best friend. Your dog is.
- 3:21Lock the two in the back of a trunk. Come back two hours later and see which one is happy to see you.
- 3:29Wow. I tell you, that's Coach Lou Holtz in a nutshell.
- 3:33He was a man of faith in Jesus Christ.
- 3:36And I'm going to talk about that as well. And he was also someone who wanted to inspire a young kid.
- 3:42That's why he did the college football, but, you know, a lot of college football
- 3:46thing going on because that's what he was looking for.
- 3:49What a great person. I tell you, Lou Holtz. Oh, my goodness.
- 3:52And I'm going to say why is this very endearing, this individual,
- 3:55because he is, was a coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
- 3:59When I started watching college football, when I started kind of opening up
- 4:03to the sports, and that was back in 1990, 1991.
- 4:07Those two years that I recall, that's being my point of interest when I was
- 4:14more aware of sports and Notre Dame was the place to be where for me, let's go.
- 4:20And Lou Holtz was the coach of Notre Dame and he did a great job.
- 4:23My understanding is that he is the coach, the last coach that led us to a national
- 4:28championship title when we won. So make it happen.
- 4:32I mean, Freeman, Marcus Freeman, let's go. He's doing a great job.
- 4:35I'm pretty sure we'll get there. Let's go. But today I'm going to say why.
- 4:40Growing up, especially in a single household, shout out to my mother,
- 4:44single mother, shout out, shout out.
- 4:46Let's go to all my single mothers out there and single parents in general,
- 4:50but we are talking about the Women's History Month.
- 4:54Shout out to many, many of these women that have to do things on their own and
- 4:59play the two roles of a mother and a father in a sense.
- 5:03So sometimes what happens is this is, and it's on both sides of the aisle,
- 5:07but especially sometimes with a boy or a male is that sometimes when we don't
- 5:13grow up with a father, and this is a lot of people,
- 5:16and sometimes when we don't grow up with a positive male role model,
- 5:20in the case of me not having a father, I did gravitate into a couple of,
- 5:24listen to a couple of male teachers,
- 5:26but once again, you kind of miss something, you know what I'm saying?
- 5:30And again, a shout out to my mother here, I'm here, you know what I mean,
- 5:34doing this podcast, but sometimes we tend to, in life wanting to,
- 5:38in a sense, gravitate as a man or as a young boy, gravitate to a positive male figure.
- 5:44And for some reason, I started watching a lot of sports because I grew up in
- 5:47a, hey, listen, I grew up in the Bronx, the boogie down.
- 5:50And I grew up in many of these hoods in the Bronx. Love the Bronx. Beautiful plates.
- 5:55How many of you knew your Yankees, botanical, hip hop, all that.
- 6:00Bronx Zoo. Let's go. I'm just saying.
- 6:03I grew up in an area where drugs and all this, Mount Haven, you already know.
- 6:08And my escape always been.
- 6:10And in this case, young Puerto Rican kid who born in Puerto Rico,
- 6:15for some reason, comes to the United States and within years fall in love with
- 6:19football, American football.
- 6:22So Notre Dame is a place I gravitate in Lujo.
- 6:26And for some reason, being that I, again, I don't know if I could say that I
- 6:33was in need of a positive male figure or someone to look up to.
- 6:39You know, I'm young to feel that if that's what I need, but subconsciously.
- 6:43And Lil Hose, for some reason, I gravitated to him and watching the Notre Dame
- 6:49football and NBC when they play at Notre Dame Stadium.
- 6:53They show these games on NBC and I tuned in. And, you know, there was a clip
- 6:56of Notre Dame talking to his boys in the locker room and so on,
- 7:00giving that little pep talk. And it energizes me.
- 7:03But it captivated me. I see this young Puerto Rican who grew up in a Christian
- 7:08household with a single mother, again, growing up in an area that was drunk and fenced.
- 7:14I mean, you know, South Bronx, my haven, you already know.
- 7:17Google my haven in the 80s, 90s. You're going to be like, eh,
- 7:22that is United States of America to you.
- 7:24But I'm saying now things are a little bit better out there in my haven.
- 7:28But just once again, the fact that I gravitated.
- 7:32And I remember Lou Holtz giving a speech to, you know, these young boys like,
- 7:38hey, listen, we got to make happen, whatever it is.
- 7:40And he's a, you know, small, you know, slim guy. And then talking to these,
- 7:44you know, big kids out there. And then you see them just listening.
- 7:49And one of the things that Lou Holtz and I remember Lou Holtz and I'll tell you another quote here.
- 7:55Want to be happy for an hour? Eat a steak. Want to be happy for a day? Play golf.
- 8:01Want to be happy for a week? Go on a cruise. Want to be happy for a lifetime?
- 8:05Put your faith in Jesus Christ. And that was Lou Holtz.
- 8:09And he, for the most part, find a way he's a man of Christian faith.
- 8:14Put Jesus Christ in the lives of these young kids and everywhere, everyone.
- 8:19And these are things that resonated with me because it's like,
- 8:21wow, there is hope. Maybe, maybe this is a model that I could follow and keep
- 8:26about it. Let me see, 10, 11 years old at that time.
- 8:29So just to have an idea, like to have a figure, and again,
- 8:34you know, it's a little hard to navigate because sometimes in that time,
- 8:39you know, with all that's going on, especially what's around you that,
- 8:42you know, those male figures, either they drinking,
- 8:46either they are on drugs or so on and so on. in there.
- 8:49Listen, I came across plumbers, teachers, you know, positive male figures that were doing something.
- 8:56At that time, I was young, so I was not going to Manhattan or anything like
- 8:59that to see the different life.
- 9:01Obviously, as you get older, I got older, and then, you know,
- 9:04it's a different, but just the fact that you're here in this little spectrum,
- 9:08and you yearn for that positive male role model.
- 9:14And again, I was indeed surrounded by male figures, but, you know,
- 9:18A lot of them lack something that you'd be like, okay, so you want me to do
- 9:23this, but then you're on drugs?
- 9:25I'm just saying, hey, listen, stuff happened.
- 9:27Even lawyers back then, heroin was a thing. Everybody was doing something,
- 9:32regardless of what your profession is.
- 9:34So every Saturday when Notre Dame play, the Notre Dame Stadium,
- 9:38I'll tune in, whether it's 12 p.m., 3 p.m., or in the night,
- 9:43I'll tune in and watch my Notre Dame, watch my boys.
- 9:46When I see Notre Dame now, I see, watch my boys, let's go.
- 9:49And just listening to Lou Hodes, and there's a thing.
- 9:52And I was talking to people that I'm surrounded by, and I said to one of the
- 9:57things that he said, life is
- 9:5910% what happens to you and 90% of how you respond to it. And it is true.
- 10:04I always say, look, if we grab 10 things, 10 days, nine out of the 10 days are going to be bad days.
- 10:10What are you going to do with that one day that's good? What are you going to do?
- 10:14You're going to, you know, just cry. You know, you're going to feel like, man, I can, I can.
- 10:19On the one day that you're supposed to wake up and you kind of say to yourself,
- 10:24hey, listen, I'm grateful to have woken up and to be alive.
- 10:29And Lou Hose, you know, kind of gave you that thing because,
- 10:32listen, A lot of times this dish,
- 10:35Once again I go to a Lou Holtz quote Your talent determines What you can do,
- 10:40Your motivations determine How much you're willing to do Your attitude determines How well you do it,
- 10:47And that's great. And that's one of the things that I've, one of the reasons
- 10:50why I created this podcast is to pep up people and, hey, listen,
- 10:55sometimes my words are just my words. I'm all about action too.
- 10:59But exactly what are you doing? You know, what exactly are you doing that you're
- 11:05going to say to yourself, hey?
- 11:07And sometimes when we feel overwhelmed, once again, hit you with another quote.
- 11:10It's not the law that breaks you down. It's the way you carry it.
- 11:13Meaning that when, you know, we all going to have, We all going to,
- 11:17at one point, are going to complain about we have too much.
- 11:21What does that mean? You can't let that break down. You can't let that determine,
- 11:25oh, man, I'm too busy. I'm too this. But guess what?
- 11:28How you carry, how you conduct yourself, whatever it is that you do,
- 11:32that when you have all this on
- 11:33your plate, it's what's going to determine what's going to happen to you.
- 11:40When all is said and done, more is said than done, right?
- 11:44I just mentioned that That alluded that day Listen That's why I got a podcast
- 11:48Trying to pet people But at the same time Got to put in work,
- 11:52I could only guide you there, and for me, as this young kid at that age,
- 11:57and again, I always believe that everything happens for a reason,
- 11:59and sometimes we in life put people, God, Jesus Christ,
- 12:05you know, they put people in your path, whether it's good, bad,
- 12:09you know, we learn something.
- 12:10Sadly, some people don't learn anything, because they don't know what the hell,
- 12:13you know, who is this person right here next to me, oh, who are you,
- 12:18to tell me, you know, this and that. you're a young person, or you don't have
- 12:23experience, or you don't have that.
- 12:25No, no, we all going to learn something from each other.
- 12:28And that's always that thing where I'm trying to show people that,
- 12:31hey, listen, when you wake up, just waking up in something where that in itself
- 12:37is the motivation, it's the discipline.
- 12:40Another quote, don't ever promise more than you can deliver,
- 12:43but always deliver more than you can promise.
- 12:45In the context of this podcast you're listening to my podcast and i could pep
- 12:52you up i could do i could i could just stick and just doing some motivational
- 12:57stuff but again am i resonating with you perhaps my words perhaps but i want to be clear to you.
- 13:06You have to put that part as well. You have to become. And without that self-discipline,
- 13:12success is impossible, period.
- 13:15And one of the things that, once again, that we have an issue is that,
- 13:19listen, as Lou Holtz was saying, this is just me giving you why people ask me, damn, it's, you know.
- 13:27Deconstructing type of podcast is a different type of cat.
- 13:31One of the things that Lou Holtz says, I never learned anything by talking.
- 13:35And I only learn things when I ask questions.
- 13:37And don't be afraid to ask. Don't be afraid to say this.
- 13:43Listen, I know that sometimes you don't want to talk about your problems.
- 13:47And then, listen, I get and I hear that on both sides of the aisle.
- 13:50Sometimes it's not good to talk about your problems, which is true.
- 13:54But I'm also in the mindset, as Kobe Bryant said, the art of storytelling.
- 14:00And sometimes you might want to not talk about your problems,
- 14:05but you might want to tell a story or two.
- 14:07And perhaps there's someone listening, which is key there.
- 14:10And perhaps there's someone that's there for you. And perhaps you never know,
- 14:14because sometimes in life, when we have faith and we have faith in Jesus Christ,
- 14:19you already know that when we have faith, we just wake up and say,
- 14:22thank you, God. Thank you, God. Thank you, Lord.
- 14:26And we are grateful to be here. And what you do, is that what you do in your
- 14:31hands? Like I always say, what's in your hands?
- 14:34And you help that fellow person that might need it more than you do.
- 14:39And just follow these three rules. Do the right thing. Do the best you can.
- 14:43And always show people you care.
- 14:46You got to make a sincere attempt to have the right goals to begin with.
- 14:50Then go after them with the appropriate effort. And remember that you can't
- 14:54really achieve anything great without the help of others.
- 14:58Amen? Absolutely. All right, my folks.
- 15:01And I'm glad that you listened to this podcast. All the information is out there. Coach Lou Holtz.
- 15:07Lou Holtz at the age of 89. Once again, former coach of Notre Dame,
- 15:11legendary coach, coached many things.
- 15:14He coached, I'm pretty sure he'll be coaching on some team in heaven or something
- 15:17to that effect. But God bless his soul, his family and so on.
- 15:21And just find a way to have faith. We could make it happen together.
- 15:26We could always make it happen.
- 15:28Have that faith and continue to have faith. All right. God bless you all.
- 15:33Make it happen. I'm out of here.
- 15:35Deconstructing topics. hit that like, follow, comment if you want to share some
- 15:40good stories, because we here.
- 15:42We making it happen. I'm out of here. Peace.
