- 0:00Aloha. Sunday morning. Calm winds today, but a south swell is pushing up onto the beaches — I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:43Windward areas got showers early. This afternoon, watch the south-facing shores — a High Surf Advisory is in effect through 6 PM, and you'll see wave runup onto normally dry beach during high tide. Interior and leeward spots may pick up afternoon showers as sea breezes develop. If you're heading out, south-facing beach walks and snorkeling are best this morning before the afternoon swell picks up.
- 2:03Oʻahu's both shores are running 4.4 to 4.5 feet — moderate conditions with shore break and rip currents. Kauaʻi's similar at 4.1 feet. Maui's comfortable at 3.5 feet for swimmers and beginner snorkelers. The Big Island is glassy and calm at 1.5 feet — safe for kids and most swimmers.
- 2:17At Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Kīpukapuaulu Trail and the Lava Tube Bridge are temporarily closed. Kīlauea is under watch status. If you're visiting the park, be prepared for volcanic ash — protect your eyes and lungs, and bring extra water.
- 2:29Our new piece on Big Island Ironman week covers what's happening when the World Championship returns to Kona this October — and for the first time since 2019, men and women race on the same day. If your October trip lands during race week, the guide breaks down the crowds, road closures, hotel demand, and how it actually changes the island's vibe. Full piece is on the site.
- 2:48Monday, trade winds pick up to moderate strength and showers return, especially on windward slopes early in the mornings through midweek. Wednesday the south swell could climb close to warning levels before easing Friday.
- 2:59Calm morning with big afternoon swells — great day for a beach walk before the crowds. Catch you tomorrow.
